Did you always planed to name young justice season 3 as Outsiders?

Greg responds...

Always? I guess not. When we started, we didn't even know that subsequent seasons would have subtitles like Invasion and Outsiders.

When the team came back check on Garfield in episode Image did the team find out Garfield's eyes color change from blue to green? What was Marie's reaction to her son eye color change?

Greg responds...

I don't know how instantly it was noted. Obviously, Marie would have been surprised, but in the grand scheme, she preferred a living green-eyed son over a dead blue-eyed son.

1)How irritating does it get for both you and Brandon when people don't give him the credit he deserves for YJ?
2)I can't wait to see what you both have in store for us in season 3! And so excited for it!

1. It annoys me quite a bit, and I try to always correct any impression that it isn't a team effort. I can only imagine that it must grate on him even more.

2. Thanks. Can't wait for everyone to see it.

I might be going down a bad road with this, but I feel strongly enough that this requires attention

1) In Young Justice, do Batman and Superman's moms have the same first name(Martha)?
2) Are Batman and Superman aware that their mothers share the same first name?
3) And most importantly.....do either of them care in the slightest? Because I think a lot of people don't....

Greg responds...

1. Yes.

2. By this time, yes.

3. I guess it depends how you define "care." I'm sure it's a connection between them. A coincidence that may seem significant. But that's about it.

Good day.

1.) In regards to the "4 Robins" question, you forgot Duke Thomas. Biggest one you left out from your list

2.) On top of that, there're also the other Robins who head-lined "We Are Robin": Riko, Dre, Dax, and Izzy. And then there are all the other kids/teens who were apart of that movement, though so far, Duke's the only one who's mentored under Batman (unless Alfred counts in place of Batman; if so, that'd include pretty much everyone).

3.) Is it sometimes hard to think about what you like most about these characters (any, not just Robins specifically)?

Thanks for your time!

Greg responds...

1. Duke - at least in Rebirth - doesn't seem to be a Robin, at least not yet.

2. You know more than I. Congrats. Was this New 52 stuff? I'm not up to speed on that. I jumped back on when New 52 morphed into Rebirth.

3. Not really.

Name writes...

Hey Greg,

I've been mildly curious about something regarding the DCAU as a whole. Do you think that the names of some of the characters are a bit archaic or out-of-date? I understand that a lot of these characters were created decades ago, but I can't imagine names like "Dick" or "Billy" or "Wally" or "Garfield" or "Barbara" being popular among teenagers in the 21st century. That's not to say I particularly dislike those names, but they've always stuck out to me, probably because I never met kids with those names throughout my schooling. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Greg responds...

Kids don't generally choose their own names. Their parents do. My wife teaches nursery school, and she hears all kinds of name, including many that sound old-fashioned to our ears.

My son is named Benjamin, legally. But as a kid, he was always Benny. Many Benny's, I'm sure, grow out of it and become Ben or Benjamin. But our Benny is still Benny. And I hope he stays that way. It's just who he is.

Meanwhile, my dad's name is Wally, short for Walter. He's always hated both, but hates Wally slightly less than he hates Walter. So he's Wally.

Garfield Logan generally goes by Gar.

Etc.

I'm a very big fan of your work, and am extremely excited about the third season of YJ. Here are my questions:

1) Was Atlantis "discovered" recently on Earth-16? Like, was Aquaman's aiding in the Appelaxion invasion what brought attention to the underwater nation or was it well-known beforehand?

2) Was Aquaman raised as Arthur Curry on the surface world or was he raised in Atlantis as the prince from the start?

3) Does Queen Mera ever work alongside the League in battles and such? It always confused me that she never appears to be associated with the League despite having (in my opinion, of course) way better powers than her husband.

4) Regarding the Wildstorm character you snuck into the first season somewhere, how old was he/she when he/she appeared?

5) Did the Team (or at least some of the Team, not including Conner and M'Gann, and potentially not including Karen and/or Mal) attend Conner and M'Gann's graduation from Happy Harbor High School?

Thank you for your time, and I hope you're having an awesome day.

Greg responds...

1. There's a story in that, so... No Spoilers.

2. No Spoilers.

3. I'll just say that not everyone is as eager to come to the surface world. But by using the word "ever," you've automatically generated a No Spoilers.

4. Did you really think I'd answer this?

5. No Spoilers.

So with the sad passing of the wonderful character actor, Miguel Ferrer, I would imagine that the character of Vandal Savage will be recast, but just curious how much, if any interaction do you ever have with the myriad voice actors on your shows? Do you have any noteworthy Ferrer anecdotes to share? Just curious, Im gonna miss that guy being a regular fixture in american media

Greg responds...

I won't comment on what we are or are not doing with Vandal in Season Three.

And I'm afraid I don't have any anecdotes of Miguel, though I can recall (imperfectly) a few anecdotes that he told.

What I will say is that Miguel was always a complete pleasure to work with on both The Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice. He was SO good and a lot of fun.

There are other people, including our voice director Jamie Thomason, who knew Miguel much better than I did. But he is missed.

Hey greg I got some questions about your villains

In the past you have mnetioned that your villains don't kill even heroes because they don't want to waste resources. Say Xanatos ultimately benfitted much more from having the gargoyles alive, as they eventually saved his son from Oberon.

But say, wouldn't the light from Young Justice eventually want them heroes dead?

When they finally achieve their goals, the heroes will only stand in their way wouldn't they? I can understand Klarion wanting the heroes around to cause some chaos. But say Queen Bee would eventually want to rule her country without any hero alive possibly meddling with her dictatorship or even overthrow her , right?

Second I have a question about Klarion. Most characters are weaker on earth 16 than other versions. But Klarion had the opposite as he is a lot stronger as a lord of chaos. Why did you decide to make him much more powerful?

Thank you Greg

Greg responds...

1. Why would they want them dead? Haven't they proven useful. I'm not saying they'd shy away from killing one or two, if necessary. (Cf. Ted Kord or Tula.) But if they had killed either Barry, Bart or Wally prior to the end of Season Two, then who or what would have saved the Earth?

2. He felt all chaosy to us. And we needed Doctor Fate to have some substantial competition.

First off congrats on Season 3. Just piecing together what we can from the timeskip betweeen S1 and 2 before having another thrown in, thought I'd ask about a few logistical pieces.

1) Can the Zeta Network support people with the same active designation in the same authorisation tier, ie. it can have Blue Beetle 22 for Ted Kord, Blue Beetle B22 for Jaime, but would multiple Kid Flashes or Robins with a B designation cause issues (if they were not deceased, causing them to be inactive designations presumably)

2) You have given the designations for the members of the Team, giving an order for when members may have joined. Would you give the year that they joined for those missing?

B01-B09: Team Year Zero

B10-Tempest: ?

B11: Aquagirl: ?

B12: Troia: ?

B13: Robin/Jason: ?

B14: Lt. Marvel: ?

B15: Sgt. Marvel: ?

B16: Batgirl: ?

B17: Bumblebee: ?

B18: Lagoon Boy: ?

B19: Beast Boy: ?

B20-B22: Team Year Five

B23-26: Team Year Six

3) Do certain members of the Team have falsified public records such as birth certificates? Specifically I would imagine Megan Morse, Connor Kent, Bart Allen, the Roys and perhaps Donna Troy would require them to attend school, marry and become legal guardians.

Greg responds...

1. If I'm understanding your question correctly, then no. There are multiple Green Lanterns within the no-prefix-letter designation. And it gives the computer no problem.

2. No.

3. I'm not commenting on "Donna Troy." I've never confirmed or denied that "Donna Troy" exists. Troia exists. That's all you know.

3a. Megan, Conner (with an e) and Bart must have public records to go with their secret identities. I suppose you could say they're falsified.

3b. Clone Roy has been using the original Roy's paperwork. Whether that changes now that Original Roy is back, I'm not saying.

In Young Justice, why can Wotan, Dr. Fate, and Klarion shoot out energy blasts, fly and create shields without speaking backwards. While, Zatanna and Zatara have to speak backwards. Why can Fate, Wotan, and Klarion do this but Zatanna and Zatara can't?

Greg responds...

Fate is a Lord of Order. Klarion is a Lord of Chaos. Wotan is an immortal sorcerer, who's been using magic for centuries. Zatara and Zatanna aren't at their level. The fact that they can hold their own at all against Wotan and Klarion is impressive.

I asked a question back in February that was removed from the site. I mentioned this in the comments section of your Facebook page. So here it is again: In light of the fact that you say there are LGBTQ+ characters on Young Justice I would like to know if there are any Christian and/or homeschooled characters on the show? As I said on your Facebook page you don't have to give me a favorable response I just want a response at all.

Greg responds...

I'm not sure what "In light of the fact" is supposed to mean, but, yes, the Wests, Allens, Garricks, Zataras, Ervins, etc. are all one denomination of Christian or another, as are many - if not most - of the cast and supporting cast, in light of the fact that Christianity (in all its forms) is still the majority religion in the United States.

Actually, I seem to recall I've broken down the religious denominations of all the leads. Check the Ask Greg Young Justice archives.

Beast Boy was homeschooled.

And, just so you know, I haven't been on either of my Facebook pages in over a year. Even before I began my social media hiatus this year, I had to give up on Facebook, because it kept crashing my phone.

Does Blue Beetle have super strength? Because Black Beetle went toe to toe with Mongul who is stronger than both Superboy and Wonder Girl so I'm just wondering if Blue Beetle's scarab also gave him this super strength or not.

Also did the Justice League find out about Belle Reve being infiltrated by the light?
And how did Icicle Jr, Mammoth, Shimmer, Devastation and the Terror Twins break out?

Greg responds...

1. Not as much as Black Beetle or Mongul, but his strength is above a normal human of his size and build.

2. Yes. In the show. On screen. Didn't you see it?

3. They didn't "break" out. Otherwise, NO SPOILERS.

I don't mean to ask this antagonistically, but what exactly do you have against super breath? Isn't it in the realm of possibilities with everything that the yellow sun does to Superman, it would enhance his lung capacity?

I mean, in the beginning, he never even flew, and now that's one of his essential powers. And that's one of his powers in Young Justice.

If you just disagreed with something like the super kiss, I'd understand, but I'm not sure why you don't think super breath is a plausible power?

Greg responds...

Volume.

Volume.

Volume.

I don't care how strong his lungs are, they're still - at most - only slightly larger than a normal human of that size. So he couldn't blow very much could he. Try to expel air from your lungs. All of it. Then assume your lungs are a super-muscle that is really good at this. And you still don't have that much air to work with. Cuz you don't have the volume.

Oh, and the whole SUPER-COLD thing is ridiculous. Breath isn't cold. When you blow on hot soup, you're not cooling the soup with your breath. You are blowing hot particles away. And, sure, you could argue, "BUT HE'S KRYPTONIAN!" And maybe Kryptonians have cold breath. But for a guy powered by the sun, I don't buy it.

I think the over-powering of heroes over time is dangerous to the needs of a storyteller. And some things are just damn silly. Super-Cold-Breath is one of those things.

Regarding Young Justice:

Is there any significance to the order in which the Justice League members are sitting at the League meeting in the episode "Agendas"? Even if there isn't a larger reason for the seating order in general, are there any smaller decisions you made beyond the Hawks or the Green Lanterns sitting together?

Greg responds...

I don't recall. Sorry. If I had to guess, I'd say storyboarding defined most of it. Who was talking with whom to make shots, i.e. camera angles, easy to manage.

Hey Greg, theres something I would like to ask your opinion about.

You see comics have been notorious for being hard on average people to get into. You should know that your cartoons have been much more influential than whatever it's publised on printed form.

For millions of people when they think Young Justice they think of earth 16 and when they think of spiderman they think of spectacular.

Say Teen Titans Tv show' has Starfire as a cute alien and naive girl wich is among the best female characters ever in my opinion. While on comics she is a dumb bimbo with hardly more personalitybthan a brick

Comics on the other hand are harder to get into and well you might jot agree but the quality is much better in cartoons such as yours. I would rather watch young justice that get into the continuity mess that comics are.

It would seem that every continiuity reboot that tries to make things simpler just makes things worse.

In your experience what would you do to make comics as approachable as tv shows are?

Greg responds...

Well, I'm going to start - without going point by point - by NOT agreeing with everything you've stated above. Some comics have issues. Some are both accessible and very well-done. In general, I'm really liking DC's REBIRTH, for example. I'm reading all of it - trying to keep up. I don't love every series, let alone every issue, but generally, I think they're doing a pretty darn good job. I'd particularly recommend Wonder Woman.

And I think there are plenty of crap television series, as well.

It's all about execution. Plenty of good comics series. Plenty of good television series. Plenty of lousy examples of both. But I'm glad you like YJ and Spectacular.

I have questions regarding adapting DC comics.

You see there is certain fan adaptation running around on the net( I won't mention it for obvious reasons) , and to be honest all the changes seem silly, cringe inducing and fanfic like.

Yet all your changes seem logical. I mean replacing Aqualad with Kalduram or Cassie as Wondergirl would be controversial but it's logical and I like it. You even improved on many characters like from the source material like Artemis and Sportsmaster.

Most of the changes you have done are like apple products they just work.

So my question is How do you make earth 17 feel so cohesive and faithful despite doing some heavy changes to the source material?

Greg responds...

Well, for starters, it's Earth-16.

But otherwise the goal is to get down to the core of every character that you're adapting and be true to that. Not all the details matter, proven out by the fact that over 75 years of comics history, a lot of the details about any given character keep changing. But who the character is at her or his core does matter.

All this is influenced by what we've already done in a universe that we're trying to keep cohesive and coherent, so we think about how any new character would fit into that schema. Or if they'll fit. Things like scope effect us too. For example, we talked about including Supergirl in both Season One and Season Two, but her story was too big to fit in either season without derailing our main overall plot or skimping on her story. We'll get to her eventually - no promises as to when - but it'll have to be when we could do justice (YOUNG justice) to her story.

I'm sorry, Ivana, but it wouldn't be responsible for me to text a twelve-year-old girl, specifically, or for me to break precedent and begin texting individual fans. I don't have time to have that kind of personal communication with everyone, and it wouldn't be fair for me to play favorites.
