1. How is it possible that Jason Todd be Robin in the five year timeskip with Tim already as Robin in season 2? Its impossible, Dick is 13 in season 1, the minimum age for him to become Nightwing is 17 meaning he just became Nightwing in yj legacy which means jason should be robin in legacy instead of tim as jason becomes robin after dick becomes Nihtwing but it isnt and means jason cant fit in those 5 years of dicks age and tims fast becoming robin. Can you please explain this mess?

2. I heard you had dick grayson be robin in season 1 because you said it be unjust not to have him as robin... and yet its completely unjustified not to have jason todd as robin, you did the thing that you werent goin to do to dick and applied it to jason. Why? Why not have jason as robin in invasion instead of tim?

Hi, my questions are related to the the comic book because is not quite clear what´s going on with Dick Grayson´s sort of "love" life.
It is somehow clear that he is looking for a relationship with B.Gordon so then, 1) why the whole Bette and Zee situation? (issue 20) I´m pretty sure you have your reasons but I really will love to know why, only if it´s possible, of course.
And finally since I became a fan of Dick/Zee as a couple I have to ask 2) around what time did the two broke up and under what circumstances they did and how they feel about it now? And again all this is because the kiss in issue 20 makes things quite confusing.

So you have commented in the past that at some point the characters take a life of their own and begin to write for themselves and dictate their actions (rather than you, as a writer trying to force it). Building off that premise ...

1) For Young Justice, is there any character that took a story in a direction other than the direction you were initially envisioning? (i.e. maybe you weren't expecting a story arc to go one way but one character's presence just shed a new perspective on the situation that took the arc in a new direction (or at least new side trek) than originally planned) If so, who/how/when?

2) was there any character (of the primary cast anyway) that took longer (even if just by an episode or two) to come in to his (or her) own in terms of taking a life of his own? if so, who?

as a general comment, i really am enjoying all the characters and their design, stories, and growth. so a thank you to you and your team for all the enjoyment i've gotten (and continue to get) out of YJ/YJ:I/YJ comics :)

incidentally, the same is true for Gargoyles and Spec. Spidey (i still watch dvds of those shows - as recently as this morning - and STILL get enjoyment out of them - the same is not true of many other shows)

I was just watching Satisfation agian, and my curiosity was peaked. Is there anyway to learn how Crispin felt about playing not only Red Arrow, but Arsenal and Jim Harper as well. I know NOlan voices SUperman and Superman, but it's easy to do 2 characters I've watched Batman enough to see that with the Justice League two part episode A New World. Three Characters, one with a totally different personality from the other.

One other thing, there should be no coinsidence that Jim could be Red's twin, is it possible that Jim is actually a clone of ROy with the real jim harper's memories?

When the world was split and the helmet was split, Nabu was also split. Why was Klarion not split? Does it have to do with the age of Teekl? If so what age is Teekl?

I thought I'd also try answer why there doesn't need to be an archery force as opposed to a speed force. Within the laws of physics archery can be performed at an expert level and the subject is not destroyed while performing such impressive feats. Running at speeds like speedsters are capable of are impossible to survive while doing. As such the speed force is not the thing that makes them run at that speed but the thing that allows them to survive running at that speed. At least that's my understanding of it though you have said we can imagine it which is satisfactory enough. I just thought you might like to understand the difference between the force being necessary and an archery force not being.

I was ridiculously excited when I realized that Tye was based on Apache Chief, and I'm even more ridiculously glad to see a whole episode based around him and the other runaways. I remember people wishing Static would appear in the show since episode one, and I was definitely one of them. The whole crew is so endearing. Everyone I've talked to about the show has a favorite among this group, and not all of them are Virgil. It makes the cancellation of Young Justice all the more tragic, because these characters really deserve the chance to grow like the season one team did.

But, for questions.

1) Why was the "Samurai" stand-in chosen to be gender-flipped? Speaking as a girl myself, I'm thrilled there's a girl at all, but was there any specific reason or did she just win the coin toss?

2) Young Justice has used several characters more famous for being created by previous animated adaptations, like Wendy & Marvin or Mercy Graves. Did these three in specific come to mind immediately for their roles, or only after you exhausted the characters created in the comics?

I'm kind of amused that Mercy's appeared in several episodes, but the character who paved the way for her creation, Harley Quinn, has only appeared as a Halloween costume. That and the fact that Joker and Poison Ivy appeared together in an episode without her. I like to imagine her breaking them out of Arkham or Belle Reve or wherever they ended up. There's no question here; just a random thought.

And to finish up, thank you. Thank you for helping to nurture one of the most diverse cartoons I have ever seen. The fact that Young Justice appears to gone out of its way (I don't know if it actually is OUT of the way, but compared to other shows...) to have multiple women, multiple people of most minorities, and many in fleshed-out, starring roles, is really that amazing. The fact that we're going to lose all this in five more episodes is heartbreaking, but we ARE grateful.

I admit, I was one of the people who was concerned by the fact that it took YJ five episodes just to pass the Bechdel Test (getting two female characters to have a single conversation about something besides boys, and "Schooled" passed on one exchange between Miss Martian and Black Canary). While I still think YJ *could* have done better on that front, I believe that it wasn't for lack of trying. I really am devastated to see the show go, and I hope there's a chance for revival in the future.

Since Red Volcano is back (this shouldnt be a spoiler to anyone...you said this yourself in your latest post in the response section), does that mean Red Inferno, a.k.a Firebrand, could still be "alive" (for lack of a better term) as well?
I never believed she was gone in the first place...I mean wouldnt she have been designed to withstand extreamly high tempuratures? How could she melt from lava? I know lava is really hot...but if Red Volcano can survive it (and he was shown to have melted, at least partially), then she should too...at least thats my theory.
Poor Red Torpedo though, he has no excuse to have survived...but he kind of came off to me as suicidal anyway, and he went out like any hero should...so maby its for the best.

CN has pretty much officially/unofficially put the last nail in the coffin of YJ:I.

It's just such a cop out, giving people and fans the run around, saying that the show isn't canceled since they still have new episode premieres left.

That isn't what people are asking, we already knew that the end of season 2 was going to air. We wanted to know about a season three.

And then to list the show a not returning but not officially say that she show isn't coming back due to cancellation? There's a big difference between a show having run it's course and end, than a show that's going fine and then just not renewed. The public views that as canceled, not just when a show is yanked mid-season and the episodes that remain are never shown.

And why won't they just say GL:TAS and YJ:I are not coming back? Why can't they say that officially? Why treat the fans so badly? We had horrible hiatuses, and then the stunt they pulled back in October. They owe us that much. They should just officially say that they're killing both series.

I just don't understand why. Both shows do well in ratings as far as if can tell. They may have not done so well in toy sales but I could never find them anywhere except Target and there's no Target where I live; had they sold them at Walmart then I would have bought Conner, Wally, Artemis and Robin. But the Young Justice Comic sales are HUGE so I don't get it.

The people are right, what there needs to be is a DC Channel on tv. I think DC shows would fair better if they did so.

I just thought that DC Nation would rotate between GL:TAS and YJ:I and TTG and BTB. It made sense to me. I mean that doesn't bode well for any DC Nation show, I mean either they are going to be on air forever with no room for anything new or no series is going to last long which isn't fair to fans who hope for more than 2 seasons.

Where's the petition to bring back YJ? I want to sign it.

I knew I was fortunate that Smallville lasted as long as it did and was able to end properly, and even it is still going in comic form. Pretty much for every other show I watch I don't hold out for it. I'm thankful when they get renewed, but I'm not so attached to live-action anymore, because almost everything new I like gets cancelled. When the shows brake during the year or for the summer I don't feel like I'm going to die anymore like I did with Smallville and for that I'm thankful. But I am that way with Young Justice. I've just never come across an animated series that is as amazing as YJ is.

As much as I live GL I could survive if it didn't come back, but not with Young Justice. It's just so perfect. If it is really gone this is officially the last time I'm going to allow myself to get attached to ANYTHING that comes on tv. It just if you find a show to love be thankful you have it while you can because no matter how popular or well written/animated a series is the next season isn't promised.

It'll be like life.

I just keep hoping that they'll say that the show will come back because even though YJ:I isn't coming back it's under another production name like they've done with all the Ben 10 series. The new shows are separate from each other as if there's no relation even though it's the same continuing storyline, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Which is sad because something like YJ could go on for quite a while. It's open to SO many more stories and adventures. With these 2 season we've seen a lot but at the same time we haven't. I would love to see inside these characters lives more, not just what happens on mission or the fall out from missions. I want to see how Conner handles his state as his friends "outgrow" him. That would be very interesting to see.

Why is it that all the thought provoking, and engaging series are the ones that get axed, and stupid humor/comedy somehow has immortality?

I think it's because people don't want to watch anything that makes them think, or watch a show where they can't figure out the ending within the first five minutes.

I just wish you could post and tell is that Young Justice is really gone. I won't believe it until you say it.

I don't want to believe that Young Justice is going to end! IF it does, then it defeats the purpose of introducing the New Gods and the use of New Genesis and Apokolips technology on Earth-16. I still suspect that the entire cast of the New Gods are somehow coming to the Earth-16 universe (if not because of what's happening in the New 52, then for another reason altogether). The hints are there, and I'm sure some people are suspecting the same things as I. If the New Gods are going to get a big role in Young Justice, we'll know, right?

I have a few questions, but first let me congratulate you on an absolutely incredible show! I've only recently started watching Young Justice (being from Ireland, it has a rather spotty airing schedule over here) so it was actually a friend who introduced me. And right from episode one I was hooked! The artwork is GORGEOUS, the dialogue snappy and fun, the storylines clever and intriguing, but most importantly (to me anyway) the characterization is phenemonal. I love all of the characters you have created on the show (especially Wally, Artemis and Black Canary), but Robin is my absolute favourite. In fact, speaking as someone who's absolute favourite Superhero is Dick Grayson's Robin, I will pay you the highest compliment that I can; YJ's season one Robin is the best animated Robin EVER! And I am including Batman: The Animated Series in that. Up until now, there hasn't been a single animated Robin who even comes close to touching BTAS' Dick Grayson in terms of brilliance, but your little Robin has even blown him out of the water. I take my hat off to you on that one, Sir.

Now, on to my questions. I do apologise if some of them were asked already, but I've looked through the list and haven't seen any of them. However, there were SO many questions that I developed double vision for a finish and may have missed them.

Q. 1. I noticed that you already responded to the question "why did Queen Bee want Robin taken in alive in Bereft?" with the answer "think of Speedy as a cautionary tale." However, my question is was it just Robin that she wanted, or was she hoping to make clones of the rest of the team? And if it was just Robin she wanted to capture, then why?

Q. 2. How or why did Robin reveal his identity to Wally? I've read the Face your Fears comic but it never explains why Robin revealed who he really was to Wally.

Q. 3. Who came up with the idea of having Robin play with prefixes? (well done to whomever it was, sheer genius and brilliant characterization) And was it intended as a nod to Dick Grayson's corny one liners from the Golden age of Batman comics?

Q. 4. This is probably like asking do you have a favourite child but…do you have a favourite character from season one and if so, whom?

Q. 5. When it came to the design of the female characters, who decided they should wear flat boots? Because I would like to shake the hands of that person. The design is the most realistic portrayal of any female superhero that I've ever seen on an animated show. I've seen some nasty digs on this site at the female characters in YJ, and I don't know what those people were smoking. Your female characters are incredible (especially Artemis and Black Canary).

Greg, please, don't let them end your show. I'm begging you, you have no idea how much this show helped me! I have been a hardcore comic book fan ever since I was 4. I know every episode of every superhero show that's ever been done. I grew up watching Batman Beyond and Justice League. I grew up hoping I'll see Jason Todd, Bart Allen, Blue Beetle, Cassie Sandsmark. I wished to see Deathstroke as he is, not Slade or anything. I wanted to see Vandal Savage fierce as he is. I wanted Stephanie Brown. I wanted Static Shock.
I was having quite a rough time last year, around this date I think, when I discovered Young Justice. Rough time? Let's say depression. Reasons aren't necessary, I was just lost.
Young Justice was something I could hang onto. The plot was just so smart and well-made. The characters were so realistic and true to their comic selves. It was just perfect. Better than Teen Titans, Batman Beyond, Justice League. It was that show I had been waiting for all my life.
Now, really, with only 2 seasons, and the second one is not even complete, on FanFiction, Young Justice is place 8 in cartoons. The first places are occupied by shows that were around for some time(Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teen Titans, Danny Phantom, X-Men Evolution).
It became so popular because it is so good! In the first season, that dynamics between Artemis and Wally, along with the secrets that started to float around, the mystery, that Dick Grayson you created, the lies and all made this show one of the best that was ever made.
Season two is just as full of surprises. I had never ever thought, but hoped that I'll get to see all the characters that made it to the screen in your series.
I'm sure that Cartoon Network can't complain about the number of viewers, seriously. This show has an army of fans. I know it because I was one of the founders of a Young Justice army on FanFiction.
I don't want to believe that this show is going to be cancelled. I don't want to understand that. I want to wake up and find out that Young Justice is having a third season. You just can't let them do this.
Do you have any ideas of how many thngs I was hoping from this show? It already gave me so much, but I was hoping for even more. I am sure that you had plenty of ideas for a third season. I am sure that the characters that would have been part of it were some of those I had always wanted to see.
Please, move it anywhere, on any channel, make episodes and put them on Itunes, anything. I just...I just want this show to go on. Cartoon Network can't just ignore us, right? Well, they can, but it should be clear for them that they'll lose at least 1/2 of their watchers. I mean, other shows they have are lame, except for Adventure Time, maybe.
You know what, you should make them(them whoever cancelled your show) read all this, all the stuff you get from fans that just don't want Young Justice to fade away. They have to know, they have to find out what we think about their decissions.

Well I'm really sad now, like proper, legitimately sad. I really liked this show, beautifully complex narrative, engaging characters(although it takes awhile to get to know them, wish you focused on fewer characters), and phenomenal animation-something that has been lacking of late. There goes another of the few threads binding me to television, now I just have Avatar the last Airbender and I'll be done with TV whenever Korra finishes. Sigh..

That would mean she was born long before 1975, and before then there were practically no Vietnamese in America. I could understand if she came to America as a refugee, if it wasn't for her first name. If she wasn't born in America (which given her age, seems most likely) how does she have a first name as non-Vietnamese as 'Paula'?

I've read on various sites around the internet that Young Justice was going to be cancelled by Cartoon Network once Season Two is over. That seems rather unfortunate, because I was hoping to see characters like Damian Wayne and Terry McGinnis get their Earth-16 debut. I've seen on the internet that there are at least two petitions going around to try to save and continue Young Justice. If in the event that the petitions fail:

A. Have you considered moving Young Justice to another network so the show can continue? ONE example HAS proven something liked this can work. In my lifetime, that ONE example was the television series called "JAG," which started on NBC from 1995 until 1996 and then later moved to CBS in 1997. The show itself has continued on up until 2005 and became a successful television series.

B. Have you considered rebooting the entire Earth-16 universe? If the show becomes cancelled, then the entire history of the Earth-16 universe would be left for open interpretation and countless theories and questions. If Young Justice was rebooted, then maybe you'd be free to give the characters a New 52 look and pursue things you could not have done before, such as introducing Wildstorm characters...

C. Maybe you could try a new series that takes place in the Earth-16 universe, just like Young Justice? Perhaps it's time to show a different era in the Earth-16 universe with new heroes and villains?

D. Maybe do a new series that serves as BOTH a replacement and a continuation of Young Justice? Marvel is actually doing something like that with the upcoming cartoon series called "Avengers Assemble," which in itself is serving as both a replacement and a continuation of "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes." This might be considered as one of my better suggestions, but it should NOT be confused with suggestions "B" (which is suggesting a complete reboot of the Earth-16 universe) and "C" (which is suggesting a new series that does not involve Young Justice but still takes place in the Earth-16 universe), as those two are completely different from this one.

I hope something will work out somehow; I just don't want Young Justice to end. You created something that a lot of potential, and it doesn't feel right that Cartoon Network would pull this outrageous stunt and put this potential to waste.

I'll be praying for Young Justice to continue somehow...

1. When you write an animation spec how much blocking do you put into the episode? My research says I should describe every single twitch of the character's face and body so that the animators in Korea will get everything right. But I wrote a short episode for a company that told me I should only do that if I'm both the writer AND the animator. I should just stick to short details like I would for live action. 2. I assume the best way to answer that question is to read examples of animated scripts--Is it possible to obtain copies of Young Justice scripts from season 1 somewhere? Should I go to a script library in LA or attempt to contact Cartoon Network for a copy?

And, since Cissie King-Jones exists, did her mother briefly operate as Miss Arrowette?
Her mother pushing her to become the hero she could never be (to the point of temporarily loosing her due to child-endangerment laws) was the primary aspect of her charactor in the comics, and their dynamic was one of my favorites in all of DC...but it looks like if she is ever used in the show again, your leaning more to her just being inspired by Artemis. I'll admit, if that happens i'll be dissapointed to not see her bicker with her mom...but i'll be estatic just to see her.
On the topic of Arrowette...there was a huge fan-based (myself included) speculation that she could possibly be Green Arrows illigitamate
daughter (with a lot of evidence to support that fact). I'm assuming you probably couldnt get away with that on your show, so i'm not going to het my hopes up, but i'm curious about your thoughts on that...or, do you just not even think about that since you wouldnt be allowed to do it even if you wanted to?

Hello yet again, Mr. Weisman. This is the first of three consecutive posts (REALLY hoping I won't be blocking up the queue). For this post, my questions revolve around Roy Harper (both of him; three if one were to count Jim).

1. After the the clones (Red Arrow and Guardian) were force-grown to whatever age the Light needed them to be, they subsequently aged at a normal human rate, meaning that Red Arrow is (as of Team Year Six) biologically 23 or 24, and Jim Harper is physically 29 or 30. Am I correct in assuming this?

2. Once it was discovered that Red Arrow and Guardian were clones, did the League and/or the Team take measures to remove the programming that left them vulnerable to the Light's control? If so, what measures?

3. When did Guardian discover that he was a clone?
3a. Is he aware that he's a clone of Roy Harper, rather than Jim?
3b. For that matter, what's the status of the original Jim Harper? I would assume that he's dead, but I have no way to be sure.

4. Now that he's found the original Roy, has Red Arrow rejoined the Justice League?

5. I've noticed personality differences between Arsenal and Red Arrow, some that are subtle, some that are... less so (for instance, I can't really see Red Arrow risking the outcome of a mission just to spite Luthor). These differences are, I think, the result of the vastly different life experiences of the two Roys. Was exploring the ways that experiences can shape a person's personality part of the plan when you (and, I'm assuming, Brandon Vietti, and probably several other writers) devised the whole "Roy Harper clone" plotline, or was it just something you all realised would come up after devising the storyline itself? I mean, experiences changing someone is all a part of character development, but I'm referring to how the different lives managed to produce two very different versions of what is essentially the same man (Cadmus programming for Red Arrow notwithstanding).

Also, I'm happy to say that I received a set of Gargoyles DVDs for Christmas. The show's every bit as good as I remember, and Keith David's performance at the end of Awakening Part I was some of the best voice acting I've ever heard.

I just wanted to say I really like what you guys have done with the villians in Young Justice. Especially Black Manta, I love the relationship he seems to have with his son, and seems to really love him. Most shows make the bad guys just pure evil and without a care in the world and all villians think the same way. All of them have different personalities so to me it seems more real. I do have one question about Miss Martian. I looked through the forums and didn't see it so if you answered fill free to delete this post!
1. When Miss Martian is not in her true form and having to concentrate on the way she looks like does it take away from her mental abilities or is it like a subconsense thing. I guess what I mean is if she wasn't shape shifting and was in regular form would her mental powers be more focused and more powerful?

I've really gotten addicted to Young justice ( it has converted me from marvel to dc lol) and I watch it religiously.
My favorite characters are aqualad and superboy.
1. I kind of see superboy as the main character of the series, he seems to have the most number episodes centered around him, picks up the best toys (sphere and wolf) and over all seems to have had the most character development. While kalder is my favorite character, my favorite episodes have always been the ones centered around Conner.

So I would like to know, while the series is really more of team show, which character would you consider more of a main protagonist? ( blue beetle, nightwing etc)

2. I loved how kalder pulled an "anakin " ( went over to the dark side, so to speak,), and he's really a awesome at it!!!
I loved the scene where came out of the water to fight artemis and nightwing, and then the ALL SHALL SUFFER IF BLACK MANTRA COmmands it, along with how he instantly fired his laser while the team was in stealth mode was beautiful.

Does kalder enjoy being bad? Even a little..

3. Young justice is INCREDIBLEly well drawn, are you more motivated to make more intricate battle scenes because they come out so well?

Yove mentioned before that the reason Aquaman doesn't have his "water-bolt" power is because he is not a sourcerer, and only Atlantian sourcerers have hard-water power...now in the comics, the only reason Aquaman can communicate with sealife is because he is a direct decendant of the most powerful Atlantian sourcerers...
My question is, how are these points reconciled on Earth-16? If his telepathy with sea-mamals is not the product of sourcery, why can only he do it (or am I assuming too much)?

My questions are related to the Cave layout and refer to the Season One team/time period (especially given that now the Cave is no more - watching the Cave get destroyed in season 2 was truly tragic, by the way, though so beautifully executed).

During "Homefront", when Robin and Artemis are running from the Reds, they end up in what would appear to be the team's shower room. It's pretty huge, which leads me to wonder...

1) Is it a coed shower? (And if I'm mistaken and that wasn't the shower room, then IS there a coed shower room in the Cave?)

2) If so, do the boys and girls take turns (meaning the girls would shower and the boys would wait their turn, or vice versa)? Or are they all comfortable enough with each other that they just shower at the same time and are respectful enough not to stare?

3) If the boys and girls do shower simultaneously, do they wear swim attire (or something similar) when they do so?

I'm just genuinely interested in how you view this particular team dynamic. Growing up in a military family, I'm accustomed to different heads for each gender. However, after watching Battlestar Galactica (the newer series), I found it fascinating that the Galactica crew shared a coed shower room. And, from an economy standpoint, it would probably save a decent amount on space and resources. A very practical outlook, actually.

And I was just wondering what system the Team had in place for this sort of thing...

So, weird question: in Homefront what kind of... Whatever was used to hold Superboy and Kid Flash? It kinda looked like ice, but ice is usually clear, and that seemed opaque. And if it was ice, then how come Superboy didn't just busy out? Ice is brittle. It shatters easily.
I don't know. Maybe it was metal that Red Inferno melted and then Red Torpedo cooled again so it stopped them quick, but they didn't show burns... please explain this.

Back when the Superboy clone was first introduced into the DCU, he was given a pair of "specs" by Prof. Emil Hamilton that granted him X-ray, telescopic, microscopic, & heat vision powers...would the Superboy of Earth-16 ever consider useing that kind of technology (if it were available)?
Or did he learn his lesson bout augmenting his powers after the patches?
Would this violate his "no tights" policy in some way?

I may be wrong but didn't Barry disapprove of Wally gaining super speed powers in the beginning and is he happy that he's left the life?

Can Wally get "out of shape" speed-wise since hes at college and does that effect his acceleration or top-speed in any way?

You mentioned before that the main reason for the lack of women in the Leauge was primarily due to lack of source material, ie. not many female Leaugers to choose from...but what about Vixen, Gipsi, Dr. Light, Fire and Ice, who are all established Leaugers through many incarnations, much more so than Rocket (which is not to say that I dont enjoy Rocket in the show, because I definatley do).
Were these charicters not considered? Just not fit into your timeline? Some other reason?
If any were simply never considered, why not?
It seems that not including any of them is a missed opportunity for diversity on multiple levels.

Dear Mr. Weisman,
In reading Ask Greg and other forums, I've noticed a lot of bashing of many plot points in Young Justice. So instead of any bashing or questions (since it might be a while till you'll get to see this and I'll get my answers by watching the show :D) you're getting a heaping helping of praise:
First off Superman: When Season 1 started a lot people bashed his portrayal and avoidance of Superboy. But I loved it. To me it felt realistic and honest. I'd feel violated and uncomfortable if I found out someone had cloned my awesomeness. When Supes did accept SB at the end of Auld Acquaintance I cheered and it brought a tear to my. People bash Supes all the time for being "too perfect" but here was a real portrayal of imperfection and humanity. I was especially excited when we saw the team up between Supes and SB in alienated and the good-bye was very touching, and then when it came out in the comic that Clark made an effort to get to know Connor as a person and not a clone my heart soared. So beautiful and sweet!
And now something I'll admit I had some issues with: The Time Skip. But not for most of the reasons I've been reading from others. I wanted to see more of the relationship develop between the Supers, and see them kick Luthor's butt :) however I've been a fan of yours way back to Gargoyles (which is still one of my all time favorites) to know there is a reason for everything you do, even if I don't know why. One thing I love about your productions is the cohesiveness of it, the stories don't change and don't go back on their founding principles. In rewatching the first season of Young Justice I realized if I had missed an episode I could've been lost as to whats going on. Even the littlest thing you don't expect is connected has something to do with the overall story. Thank you so much for a beautifully written and gorgeously animated show. In age when it seems some companies are dumbing stuff down I love the H.G Wells references and the respect you treat you audiences intelligence with, whether they be children or adults like me. Thank you again to you and your wonderful staff! Keep up the amazing work you've found a fan for life :)

I like how you use mirroring, foil characters, connections, irony, all that good stuff on your shows. Like in "Cloud Fathers" Coyote (the spirit) pulled a stunt on Coyote (the Xanatos robot) which was very similar to Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Superboy pulling on Blockbuster in "Fireworks". I also see you said once that the Light was perhaps influenced by the Illuminati in Gargoyles, but not directly, so I wanted to know if there are any other hidden connections between YJ and Gargoyles and if so what are they?

Here are the Flash questions/comments I promised, mainly centered on Barry Allen.

Your portrayal of the Barry Allen persona to me does not seem like the one I am familiar with in his appearances in the comics, from the Silver Age to his death on Crisis on Infinite Earths and even after his resurrection and into the New 52. To me he always seemed a calm and collective police scientist who had somewhat of Superman's persona in the pursuit of justice. Your version to me seems more like the Wally West persona, especially similar to the Justice League and JLU series of Bruce Timm. He seems more willing to joke around, his outbursts in the first episode of YJ, and his over-eagerness of the present in Mount Justice in the tie-in comic book are just some examples that lead me to this conclusion. So mainly I wanted to know where you drew inspiration for Barry Allen the Flash please. Please understand that I am not criticizing you; you're the creator and you have every right to adapt characters as you seem fit, but it has somewhat bugged me throughout the series. I am happy with the other Flashes though, and glad Kid Flash finally gets some spotlight in an animated series, plus "Bloodlines" was one of the greatest episodes ever!

I like the changes martian manhunter's powers and other martians as well because in the comics, his powers (and other martians) are mostly comparable to a kryptonian (except for shapeshifting, density shifting, invisibility and telepathy). Why didn't they do that in the current comics?

It's been brought up a lot, and entirely not your fault characters can't be open about orientation. Really thankful for all you've done. Nightwings "and some woman" line alone me feel so happy; a Hero from a show vaguely acknowledged I existed, and it really means a lot to me-and maybe some confused kids will be helped. Its hard growing up and trying to believe your feelings thinking absolutely no one is the same, not being able to look to pop culture for any role models. I know it's still too controversial, but I'm glad for our little corner. I don't know how to word this well, but I just want you to understand how much it means to some people you give us a corner. As sincere as I can, I just want to say Thank You! I can't word my thoughts great, but I really wanted to tell you how I felt, thanks for all you do, and your time.

A Flash Fan again. A few more questions and comments if you don't mind.

1. My mind has been going back to the grotto. Ted Kord is the only deceased member of the league there and the other three "dead" members were from the Team. We know Artemis isn't really dead, Tula it can go both ways and I know will find out soon enough, and we officially know the second Robin is dead. I guess I would ask, do you think it is because the Justice League is more skilled with experience and therefore the chances of them getting killed is considerably less than the Team that's still learning the ropes, or is it that the Team is just more willing to sacrifice for what is right? I mean Flash would have died if not for Bart coming back; he said after he was saved he realized he wouldn't have made it, so is there a relationship between age and courage and the ultimate sacrifice do you think for the League and the Team?

2. Why isn't a Kent Nelson hologram/memorial in the grotto? He gave his life in the line of duty and was part of the League (or was he technically just part of the JSA?)

3. I apologize if this is a spoiler, but when did the League and Team start the grotto?

4. I've read that 16 appears a lot in the show. Is that because it is Earth -16 or is there some other reason, and if so what? And did you choose it to be Earth 16 or was that a decision made by DC Comics and the powers above?

5. My favorite scene of Season 1 was in "Auld Aquaintance" when Superboy and Robin bring down Superman and Batman. These latter two are pretty much the symbol of DC (wish Flash was a part of them, but of well) and to see Superboy and Robin, who in my opinion, got along, but never so great and never a prolonged experience fighting together was really cool. The other Team members fighting their mentors were cool, but not like this, this was ice cold frozen! I think it really conveyed something central about the series about the sidekicks filling the roles of their mentors (and was really glad Superman accepted Superboy at the end), so my question is, was this your intent or was there something else? Do you think this is THE scene or is there another one you think is better or was your favorite?

I know you said in a few other questions that Ms. Martian was the only member of her family who had a "white" appearance. She also mentioned that she had 12 sisters, and that Martians stay close in large families through telepathy. So:

A) How close is she with her Martian family, now she's on earth? Does she write/communicate/keep in touch?

B) Was there any difference in her relationship with her father, compared to her siblings, because she faced the same prejudices He did?

C) How well did she get along with her siblings, was she especially close with any of them?

Also, I'm not sure if you plan on answering this in the show, so if it's not a spoiler request, why did Beast Boy develop powers after being bitten by a Green Monkey? Why not right away? And, would a bite from any other animal have done the same thing, or is there something special about green monkeys?

1. Why isn't there any public information about Nielsen's ratings for most of the animated series that have been on television? Classic cartoons and many of the modern ones have virtually no ratings tied to them. In the past few years, the figures have been released for programs that have performed well for cartoons, such as the animated series that currently air on Fox, Avatar: The Legend of Korra on Nickelodeon, Adventure Time on Cartoon Network not to mention Young Justice, as well as a few other programs on or were on the air.

2. Are networks allowed to request that the ratings for a show be withheld or simply not released to the public? In addition, why are the ratings released for some episodes of animated television programs, such as Young Justice or Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, while not being provided for others?

3. As someone who has worked on a variety of animated projects over the years, were you given the exact ratings of a program to work with? By that, I mean were the exact ratings made available to you, and if so, who provided them? Or was that information not provided? And did these particular ratings have any leverage on what would go in the animated universe?

4. What were the ratings like for your original animated series, Gargoyles? A search on Google turns up an article, http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-15899915.html, which requires a subscription to read in full, reads:

"Walt Disney Television Animation's Gargoyles new animated show delivered a strong 2.8 Nielsen metered-market rating and an 8 share average over a special stripped debut Oct. 24-28. That was up 33% in share from its,"

5. Are you even allowed to discuss the ratings of an animated program, or is there a contractual obligation that prevents you (and others) from doing so?

Hi Greg,

I was just watching "Targets" again for probably the third or fourth time (and for the first time since before the show returned last September) when I noticed something interesting. In that episode, during the conversation between Red Arrow and Lex Luthor at the Peace Summit between North and South Rhelasia, Luthor tells Red something about Lexcorp being dedicated to peace. In response, Red Arrow says, "I've got intel linking Lexcorp shell companies to the sale of weapons in both Rhelasias. You're profiting off this war."

We learned in "Satisfaction" that the original Roy Harper had been abducted while investigating a Lexcorp shell company that he and Green Arrow suspected of smuggling weapons into North Rhelasia.

My questions...

1) Are these two events in fact the same? I mean, when Red Arrow was speaking with Luthor at the Peace Summit regarding his "intel", was he referring (unknowingly, of course) to the same event that led to the original Roy's capture (and, by consequence, his own creation)?
2) If the answer to the above is no, then feel free to ignore the rest of the paragraph. However, if the answer to the above question is yes, then I'm also curious: was Red Arrow's presence at the Rhelasian Peace Summit orchestrated by the Light in advance? I mean, obviously for Sportsmaster to extract information from him and issue new programming, Red had to be there, and he had to be alone. But if he hadn't been there at all, it seems likely that Cheshire would have actually killed Luthor - it just didn't seem to me like she knew what was really going on. But wouldn't it be too great a risk for the Light to knowingly put one of its own in jeopardy - unless they KNEW beforehand that someone (and a very specific someone, at that) would be there to "save the day"? Moreover, for this whole plan to succeed without Luthor being assassinated, both Cheshire and Sportsmaster had to have been explicitly told NOT to kill Red Arrow - which they could probably have done together very easily.

I'm not trying to put forth my own ideas here or anything. I just want to know, in light of the events and revelations of "Satisfaction", if I'm reading this whole scenario correctly. Or... am I just reading too much into all this?

1. What's with all the random hiatuses? I understand they may be necessary, but it truly irks some fans (like myself).

2. Was there always supposed to be a jump from 2010 to 2016? Or was it brought up out of the blue? If the latter: what caused it? And what would've happened if there WASN'T a time jump? Would the current events be the same?

I know you've said you can't actually show LGBT characters on the show, but I think I saw you said that there was one who was just closeted. Would you ever "out" this character outside the show itself? Or would you not be allowed to? I was just reading through the recently answered questions, and something struck me as a little odd. You seem to be interested in the specifics of things that are activly shown on-screen (eg. a charactors background in gymnastics as opposed to acrobatics, and how that difference is portrayed), yet there is an "Ask Greg helper" who answers questions for you with your quote "I'm not personally intetested in those type of specifics" which was your answer to a comoletley different kind of question (probably something like "what is Superboy's favorite type of pie")....my question is:
How much discression do you give your helpers to answer questions with responses that a) conveys your personal opinion AND b) you have not already answered and was never revealed in the show?
Specifically, I am refering to a question about how much water Aqualad's pack holds...how does your helper know your not intetested in that? Was there a meeting in which this topic was discussed?
The reason your stories are so good is because you pay so much attention to the details of things on-screen (in my opinion, anyway), and that seemed like a perfectly legitimate question to something regularly appearing on-screen, and given that, would most likley intetest you, at least a little (ie. I would think that you would write Aqualad keeping in mind there cold only possibly be a finite amount of water in his pack).

Most of us watch it online or download from foreign websites.

With the introduction of the Forever People and Desaad in "Disordered," the introduction of Gordon Godfrey in Young Justice: Invasion, and the use of Apokoliptian technology in several episodes of the series thus far, the hints of a coming presence of the New Gods seems to be making itself clear.

I know that, as I have read in the AskGreg Archives, you have stated multiple times that Young Justice is not affected by the New 52. However, I thought you should need to know about what the New Gods are doing in the New 52. Please read below.

The New Gods that have appeared thus far in the New 52 & what they have been doing:

Darkseid - In the New 52, Darkseid was re-introduced as the main antagonist in issues #1-6 of "Justice League." He led his forces to attack the mainstream DC universe in an effort to search for his daughter, who is apparently a new character in the comics. Thanks to the efforts of the Justice League, Darkseid was sent away via Boomtube, but not before he swore to return. It also seems that Darkseid has been acting behind-the scenes during the flashback events that happened in issue #1 of "Earth 2," given that he made no actual appearance in the issue. Darkseid has not yet made any future appearances since then... though it is easy to suspect that the search for his daughter still continues throughout the multiverse…

Desaad - His only appearance in the New 52 thus far was in issue #6 of "Justice League," in which he was involved in the brutal torture of Superman. I don't think he's been seen or heard of since then…

Steppenwolf - He also made an appearance in issue #6 of "Justice League," in which he was also involved in Superman's torture. With the failure of the Apokoliptian invasion of the mainstream DC universe, he makes his next appearance in issue #1 of "Earth 2." Aside from personally leading an Apokoliptian invasion on this parallel Earth, he had a notable role in personally killing Earth-2's version of Wonder Woman. When the invasion was stopped by Earth-2's version of the Trinity (at the cost of their lives), Steppenwolf was not seen or heard from again. I've heard that issue #8 of "Earth 2" is going to show off Steppenwolf again and that the issue was going to explain what he has been doing on Earth-2 for five years after the failed invasion.

Orion - Orion was re-introduced at the end of issue #12 of "Wonder Woman." Oddly enough, as he rises from the snow, picks up his helmet, and leaves somewhere via Boomtube, the dialogue in the last couple of pages in that issue implies that the fall of the Olympian Gods (at least, the ones exiting in the mainstream DC universe) gives rise to the New Gods. Honestly, I have no idea what it could mean. Anyway, Orion seems to play a role in some issues of "Wonder Woman." From what I think I understand, it seems that Orion has been given a mission by the Highfather to prevent the end of The Source itself… Pretty strange if you ask me…

Darkseid's daughter - Quite honestly, there's not much that is known about Darkseid's daughter. She has made no appearance thus far, and her name has not yet been given… Finding her is apparently Darkseid's top priority, as evidenced in issue #6 of "Justice League." The Apokoliptian invasion of Earth-2, as shown in issue #1 of "Earth 2" seems to suggest that Darkseid has launched an assault on ANY and ALL parallel Earths in the DC multiverse; all for the sake of finding his daughter. To further support this evidence, in issue #6 of "Justice League," Superman, upon being rescued from torture, stated that he saw images of a multiverse faced with death and torture at Darkseid's hands. This means that the mainstream DC universe and Earth-2 were not the only victims of assaults from the forces of Apokolips.

Before I ask my question, I just wanted to offer an explanation about something. I see a lot of confusion from people who aren't shall we say denizens of the internet regarding "trolling". Trolling is doing or saying something to rile someone up for humorous purposes, and everyone seems to be familiar with the cruel, schadenfreude usage of this. It can also be used affectionately- your friend could troll you by calling you that embarrassing nickname in front of your new girlfriend. When people say you are trolling the fandom, they're not calling you mean- it's saying you're kind of messing with us, playing with our heads. In a sense, it kind of means you're doing your job really well as a creator.

My actual question is that I was wondering about Green Arrow and Black Canary in earth-16. I actually also really love Black Canary, and ship them together really hard, and I was wondering
1) what their first impressions of each other were like. 2)Do they live together, currently, or do they have their own places?
3)What is your favorite relationship dynamic for them?

I know that these kind of shows are a big team effort, so just thanking the head-writer or the credited writer is not enough. So if you ever talk to your colleagues about how the audiences react to Young Justice, please tell them, that there is at least one viewer, where you exactly hit the right spot, and pushed his emotional buttons. As I said, there is at least one, but probably thousands, or millions, but I can only speak for myself. Especially the episode "Coldhearted" got me up and down a few times, so thanks to everyone involved for that.

Do you not care about it, or is it acutally difficult for you to get this kind of information?
Or do you even try to avoid it, to not risk any (bad) influence?

3) From another reader's question I know that you were responsible for some English dubs. Does that experience affect your writing? Do you sometimes wonder how something you just wrote could be difficult to handle for those who translate your work into other languages (or cultures)?

I would have asked that question anyway, as I try to ask every author I can reach about it. But now that I know, that you know both sides of the problem, I am more inclined than ever, to hear your thoughts about it.

Looking more and more forward to the tail end of this season based on the new trailer. Love Cap'n Marvel! LOVE STATIC! (If that's who he is of course) wink wink

1) About the storytelling of the series. I don't know if this was mentioned before, but I enjoy eps that are based on source material. Be it homage or adaptation similar to the Secrets and Disordered eps, I've looked at season two. My first discovery was the subtitle of the season possibly being influenced by a dc comics crossover event (that I believe you were involved with) called Invasion. There's also an ep about the Flash family introducing Impulse, a homage to another dc crossover event called Bloodlines, which did introduce new heroes and dealt with an alien invasion. So, were these intentional? Are there any other homages other than I guess Rimbor?

2) I noticed that Vandal Savage seems to be dressed in a uniform that looks similar to a Civil War Confederate uniform, is this your or Brandon's or Phil's idea?

3) In the episode Revelation, it seemed Joker knew at the very least something of the Light's plans leading to the events of Season two. Were these villains brainwashed through the Starro chips as well? Also, why were the heroes unable to find out anything from the captured villains?

I have questions about Performance. I really, really liked this episode-- it seems like every Robin adaption has to do a circus episode, but I liked that YJ's version wasn't a rehash of his origin. It's detailed in the comics and hinted at here, and I think that worked out really well.

1. From the context (i.e., "You guys are not on a mission" vs. "Batman's sending us..."), I'm guessing Robin lied to Artemis, Conner, M'gann, and Roy about having League sanction to pursue who was framing Mr. Haly. Is that true?

2. If it is true, did the others ever find out? Were there any repercussions for Dick?

Also, on a tangent: I really love the friendship between Wally and Dick. It's by far my favorite aspect of YJ, and I really enjoyed their dialogue in Darkest. I hope to see more of it!

Greg, you've mentioned several times here and elsewhere that Wally was a very insecure person during the first season, but I never got that feeling from watching the show. I don't deny that he seemed to be overcompensating for something at times, but I never understood why he felt the need to. In comparison, I thought the show did a great job with Artemis as we saw her tough girl facade crack a few times, and got a good feeling for why she put up that facade.

So my question is; did the show actually explore Wally's insecurities as a person during the first season? And if not, what exactly was he insecure about and why did he feel that way?

He's my favorite character on the show, and I just feel like I missed something somewhere along the way. Thanks!

Hi Greg, I'm a huge fan of Young Justice and am blow away after every episode. I am also a huge fan of Smallville too.
Seeing as both shows deal with Young superheroes I was wanted to just ask a couple of questions.
1) Are you familiar with Smallville? If so how familiar?
2) If so did it have any influence on your characters in Young Justice?
3) More particularly did Michael Rosenbaum's portrayal of Lex Luthor influence the way you write Lex on Young Justice?
4) Finally the Clark Kent presented on Smallville had a lot of very human flaws, something that I also noticed about Superman on Young Justice. Superman is often portrayed as an almost perfect individual so seeing those flaws on Smallville and Young Justice was a breath of fresh air. Did the Clark Kent of Smallville have any influence on how you wrote the character of Superman on Young Justice?

If Superboy was made to be a replacement for Superman, why
would the scientists make him while knowing that he's only going to be half as powerful and therefore a poor replacement.
The fact Conner is half human means that his creators must of (logically) known that he'd
be a "inferior" version of Superman - So why bother?

The whole point of the cloning in the first place was to create a "Match" for Superman as Luthor put it, hence that psycho character called Match. When that failed, didn't settling for a downsized version defeat the purpose of the experiments in the first place?

In the comics, if was all justified by stating that the main goal of the scientists was just to unlock a dormant kryptonian ability (telekinesis) in Conner, but in your show that's not the case.

So what was their justification?

After season one, I figured Roy's serious personality might have been influenced by his programming. After seeing the original Roy, it is clear Roy has always been like that. Since Jim Harper is also a clone of the original Roy, my first question is this:

1) What is the reason for the personality difference between The two Roys and Jim Harper?

2) Was Jim Harper programmed to be a different hero?

3) In Season one, Jim explained to Superboy that he was Roy's uncle. It seems that this was programmed into him. Was this programmed into Red Arrow? In other words, did Roy know about his "relation" to Jim?

4) If Jim Harper were to pick up a bow and arrow, would he be a good archer?

5) Was Aqualad the only person on the Team who would know where Roy was hiding in the final episode of Season one?

Young Justice is the greatest show I've ever seen!
I'm so loving it and especially the arrow family. Though they are not the main characters, oh, sorry Artemis is. But I can see you put a great effort and many important plot on Speedy/Red Arrow (the clone Roy), and also Green Arrow and the Original Roy. Thank you very much.
I have to tell you I love Roy so so so much, and I started an archery lesson recently.
And then I found some interesting question about Roy's guise of Red Arrow.

When I learned to shoot an arrow, I have to wear an arm protector on my left arm, which is holding the bow. Because when I release the string, it would scrape over the left arm sometimes. it hurts a lot so as I need a protector. I'm not sure if the master archer also need the protector or not, but it seems even professional archer also use that kind of protector.

And then I found Roy's gloves, one is short and one is long. The long glove looks like an arm protector or have that kind of function, you know, protect the inside skin of the arm not to be scraped by the string. But then I found it's on the right arm. And Roy is using his left hand to hold the bow, I checked almost every episode in season1, Artemis sometimes using right hand, but Roy always using left hand.
So if he really want to protect his arm, he should wear that long glove on his left hand. Wearing on right hand is meaningless except good looking.

Here is the question:
Is it some design mistake? Because if I didn't go to archery, I also didn't know we need an arm protector on the hand we use to hold the bow.
Or is it because Roy always has a rush morning and wearing the wrong gloves on wrong hand? ( like we sometimes wearing wrong sock on different feet)
Or he's so good at shooting and won't let the string scraping his arm or he don't care, so he just wearing the unsymmetrical gloves for stylish looking? (I can understand and that's really cool and good looking! )

And one more things, for the method to draw a string.
the standard method I learned is using 3 fingers. Index finger upon the arrow, middle finger and ring finger under the arrow.
Most of the time I found Roy or Ollie only use 2 finger, index finger up and middle finger down.
That looks natural and it's a variation of the method above, but it's harder to draw a string and give more strain to the finger and less people using this. I just hope Roy's finger won't hurt too much after a battle when he keep using 2 finger.

I'd like to ask a few YJ questions that I really hope don't come across the wrong way. They're just a few things I've noticed that may be errors/unclear (or just me being oblivious). Obviously I love the show and the comics, and think you and your team do a great job.

1) In "Bereft", Robin says the soldiers are of the Bialyan Republican Army, but Bialya is a monarchy. Is that an error or was Bialya formerly a republic (or something even more complicated)?

2) In "Common Denominators", after the Cultists abducted Dr. Burr, hitting Robin in the process, Batman asks Robin if he's okay. Robin responds "Feeling the aster. But fine." Shouldn't that be "Not feeling the aster. But fine." or am I misinterpreting 'aster'?

In "Depths", in the scene in the Cave at the end, we hear crying-in particular it sounds to me like male and female crying. Though it looks to me as though Raquel, and perhaps Karen, were crying none of the male characters appeared to be.
3a) Who was crying?
3b) In general, how do you write scenes like this, where you have a number of characters but only a few are seen up close and/or have lines? Does the script detail the reactions for each or is there just a general description of the group's reaction and the details are left to storyboarding/animation?

It isn't really much of a question, but all in all, I just wanted to say "Thank you". Thank you for all the high quality shows you produced that enriched my childhood and still give me intelligent and gripping entertainment in my favorite media, animated shows, as an adult.
Most off all, I also wanted to express my admiration for your resolve. While privately I may often joke bitterly about the "Weisman curse" whenever one of your shows gets unfairly canceled way too soon despite (arguably) having the best quality in the entire program. You will always have my gratitude for continuing to produce great shows despite all the stones placed in your way.

Hi, I'd like to ask a few Wolf related questions, if I may.

In the wild gray wolves live for around 8-13 years (a bit more in captivity). Since Wolf appeared to be the leader of his pack in "Alpha Male" (the title being a hint!), that would suggest he was a fully grown adult (3+ years) at the time. That would mean Wolf would be physically quite old by Season Two, but he doesn't appear to have aged.

1) How old is Wolf?
2a) Does Wolf not show his age and/or have an extended lifespan as a result of the Brain's experiments on him?
2b) If yes, is the same true of humans or other animals enhanced with Kobra-Venom?

In this interview (http://www.aquamanshrine.com/2012/09/aquaman-shrine-interview-with-greg.html) you mentioned that Wolf was Earth-16's version of Krypto, and that you considered naming him Krypto. That would seem to imply there is no "real" Kryptonian Krypto. But in "Alpha Male", when KF suggested that name, M'gann said it was taken.

3) Is there a Krypto on Earth-16? If not, what was M'gann referring to?

4) Was Wolf linked into the telepathic simulation in "Failsafe", or was he just in the room?

I got into an argument with my boyfriend the other day that I'd like your opinion on: is the Joker really crazy? I say no, because he always says he's crazy and acknowledges that what he is doing is crazy. So if he knows that he is insane then he can't be, because people who are truly insane don't know they're insane; they think they're sane and everybody else is nuts. Like Two-Face, I think he's seriously off his rocker because he honestly believes he's administering justice by flipping a coin. Today's posting is in regards to Batman's and Alfred's past prior to the events of Young Justice. Here are my questions below:

#1 - Obviously we know that Bruce Wayne uses the bat as an inspiration in his war against crime, but the way he discovers this inspiration is done differently in various media. In one example, the Christopher Nolan films, Bruce gained his inspiration from the time he fell in the well as a child and ended up in a cave filled with bats. In another example, the graphic novel "Batman: Earth One," Bruce discovers this inspiration when he sees a statue of a Japanese samurai wearing a bat-like mask. In comparison with other media, how did Bruce Wayne discover his inspiration (the bat) to become Batman on Earth-16?

#2 - I'm under the impression that shortly after Bruce Wayne started his career as Batman, he was probably initially regarded as vigilante, an urban myth, and other things by the people of Gotham City before he was accepted as a hero. Can you please confirm whether this is true or not on Earth-16? If it turns out to be true, then how many years did it take before he was acknowledged for his good deeds by the people of Gotham City?

#3 - Batman has a large rouges gallery on his list; and that's true in ANY parallel DC universe. On Earth-16, which particular villains from Batman's rouges gallery has always given him a considerable amount of trouble (in terms of challenging him to the peak of both his physical and mental limits at the same time) and why? I'm asking this particular question because if you think about, every villain in Batman's rouges gallery challenges his limits very differently (sometimes it's his physical limits being tested, other times it's his mental limits, and sometimes it's BOTH of them).

#4 - Before his parents were murdered, what did the young Bruce Wayne wanted to be when he became an adult? In other words, what kind of career did Bruce wanted to pursue before his life was tragically changed forever as a result of Joe Chill's actions?

#5 - Before being employed by the Wayne family and working for them as a butler, did Alfred had a previous job occupation? If so, can you please tell us what it was and what exactly did he do in his previous job?

I'm confused here. If the years on the timestamps as indicated on Young Justice issue #20 are correct, then it seems that the entirety of Season One took place during Year Zero. The present day events of the issue indicate that 2015 is Year Five. If that is true, would Season Two technically be Year Six in 2016? Also, If Young Justice: Legacy takes place one year before Season Two, would that be Year Five or Year Four?

At the end of "Performance," Jack Haly suspected two things:

A. He knew Dan Danger was actually Dick Grayson (for certain).

B. He suspects that Dick Grayson might have had something to do with saving the reputation of the circus (but not quite certain)

Or was it just an extraneous element that you took advantage of when developing the storyline for season 2?

2.) Was Jason ever a serious contender for the new Robin in season 2? I ask because I recently saw the episode "Darkest" where a building is destroyed in a manner similar to "A Death in the Family". I loved what you guys did, and I don't mean to imply that "it would have been better if you'd done it this way." But I do think it would have added an interesting layer if Jason Todd had been an unintended casualty of that event. Assuming of course that the network would let you do something that extreme in the first place. So was that idea ever discussed?

Wow...talk about kicking things up a notch! "Satisfaction" and "Darkest" have been stellar...just when I thought the show couldn't get more twisted, the knife cuts a little deeper. It hurts -- but in a good way!

Anyway, question about the way in which episodes have been organized in Season 2. Unless, I'm reading too much into it, the first 10 episodes feel very clearly divided into 3 arcs.

Ep. 1-3 - The Krolotean threat, the 5-day timespan, the mystery of the 16 hours culminating in the League leaving for Rimbor. That last one especially felt like a dramatic endpoint.

Ep. 4-6 - Red Arrow's recovery, the re-introduction of Wally, Blue Beetle's spotlight. And the ending of "Bloodlines" being a super-dramatic endpoint.

Ep. 7-10 - The short timespan, the Aqualad/Artemis undercover plot.

If this was intentional, would you mind elaborating on your thought process behind this method of organization?

Also, if there was a similar organizational method in Season 1, I'd love to hear about that as well!

To start, I want to let you know that YJ is currently my favorite show, and I can't wait to see it each week.

My question is about Kyle Rayner. I remember hearing that in the past on multiple DC shows, certain characters (notably Nightwing in JLU and Donna Troy/Wonder Girl in almost ANYTHING) were off limits due to licensing issues (or something to that effect, I was never great at the legalese). I also noted that Kyle Rayner's only appearances as a Green Lantern were in Superman: TAS (where they made him into Hal Jordan with a different name) and briefly in JLU (where he had very little characterization). In many other shows and movies based off DC lore, when Kyle is supposed to be the Green Lantern in question (Justice League: Doom), or at the very least, could exist as one, he is passed over, more frequently than any of the other Lanterns in 2814. Is this a licensing issue, or is it something else entirely? From what I've read, Kyle isn't an unpopular character.

When Superboy reacted to this revelation, was his reaction based mostly towards the fact because he now realized that they shared the same last name in the episode, or mostly towards the fact because Conner had met Clark Kent in Young Justice issue #20 (as indicated by the flashbacks) and not realizing at the time that Clark was actually Superman?

I would love to say thank you for providing us with shows like young justice and spectacular spiderman with all the twists and turns in the story line.

For spectacular spiderman, i was fooled that harry was the green goblin when it actually norman. Just when i thought i had the Green Goblin so played out (making the harry seem so obvious) and yet so deviated (making it Harry instead of the traditional Norman), I was wrong.

I loved how the show kept with the original story of the Green Goblin AND found a surprising and original way to tell it. That's what i call killing 2 birds with stone.

Same goes for young justice, how Red Arrow accuses Miss martian, Artemis and Superboy of being the mole when it was Roy. I admit myself i thought it would be artemis which roy was suspicious and when i found out he was the mole, i thought to myself hypocrite but when i found out he was a clone and a sleeper agent?! Oh my....

I love surprises like these keep it up!

Hi its good to have young justice back. So my first two questions are directed at the lastest episode or at least ths lastet episode there was when i posted this.
1.Arsenel(the first roy but for simpcity sake) seemed to be able to fight extremely well given his handicap, not to mention the fact that he just got out of the hospital. Could just elaborate a little how he could do this, when he also had to use different tatics compared to his eariler training. Also is red arrow more skilled than aresenl given he had three extra years of training with green arrow?
2. I know you may have said this eariler, but I am curious about how important a character rocket was in the first season. Compared to zatanna who was introduced sooner and was shown working with the team before she actually joined, it felt like rockets entry was rushed. Was that intentional or just part of script changes?
3. Final question is about the finale of season 1. The light put in alot of time and effort into creating starro tech which can subdue any hero, over a period of several months, yet the team was able to create a counter to it in less than a day. It really seems to me that was a bit of a deux ex machina. I guess my question is did you only do that to clear the board for season 2?

Hi Greg! I absolutely love what you and Brandon (not to mention the rest of the cast and crew) are doing with Invasion. I'm really enjoying it, in fact, now that I think about it, there's not an episode in Invasion which I haven't thoroughly enjoyed.

I was just wondering about the origins of the Justice League and its subsequent history. I understand this is spoiler territory, so I'll try to be fairly cautious of asking you for exact information.

1) We know from "Salvage" and "Alienated" that the Justice League came together to fight the Appellaxian invasion, and that the aliens' husks are on display in the Hall of Justice. In the comics, there are seven Appellaxians, however in "Young Justice" we've only ever seen four. Were the other three husks destroyed by the League, or were there only four Appellaxian invaders?
2) Was remaining a secret from the public a conscious decision made by the League, or did it just so happen that the public were oblivious to their operation for three years?
3) It wasn't for another 3 year following the League's formation that it became known the the public. Was this revelation directly linked with the Joker's discovery of the League's secret base in Mount Justice?
4) What was the League's roster at the time of Joker's discovery of the Cave, and the League going public?
5) I find it unlikely that this is a date you've nailed down, but if so, what month did the League form?

Thank again Greg, not just for answering our questions, but for making what I consider to be the best superhero television show since "Batman: The Animated Series". The tone of the series is nailed so perfectly, and there's nothing too far fetched which ever throws me out of the experience. I love the dynamic between all the characters, yes, even Lagoon Boy. :P

I just finished watching "Satisfaction" and, first things first, I just have to say that I love the portrayal of Lex Luthor you, Brandon, and company have put together (not to mention how well Mark Rolston sells it). He's just so LIKEABLE. Many writers seem to forget that the main reason Superman can't just say "Uh yeah, he's a bad guy, let's lock him up" is because, to the public that doesn't know what he's upto, Lex is almost as beloved as Supes himself. You guys have nailed what makes Luthor a great adversary. Kudos!

1. The Blue Beetle statue in the grotto implies he was a member of League during the timeskip, yes?

2. Sportsmaster's comments made me wonder about who all knew that Artemis was his daughter. Obviously, Aqualad had reason to know, but would Manta? Is Artemis' parentage well-known among the criminal element in Earth-16?

Hello, Mr. Weisman! Let me begin with the obligatory praise: "Gargoyles" had a big impact on my childhood, while "Spectacular Spider-Man" and "Young Justice" are new favorites. Thanks for making them!

I have a few questions, which I hope don't come off as too nitpicky or critical. I tend to over-think cartoons sometimes.

1.) M'Gann's subplot in season one feels kind of odd to me. You've said that White Martians and Green Martians look basically the same, but if that's the case, why bother keeping her true race a secret from the Team? She probably realizes that Martians look freaky by human standards, but color makes little difference to that, and they are only going to recognize a social connotation to her White-ness if she explains it. Am I missing something, or is it just that this is such a touchy subject for her that she is not really acting rationally?

2.) You've said before that you always try to capture the "core" of a character, no matter what details you change. Now, I only have second-hand knowledge about Artemis from the original comics, but from what I understand her moral alignment was opposite of what it is in YJ. I'm not necessarily arguing with the result---Artemis is one of my favorite characters---but I'm curious: why did you choose her for the Team (you mentioned several other female archer candidates), and what exactly do you feel is the "core" similarity between the original and Earth-16 versions?

3.) Another not-complaining-but-curious question: I understand the reasons Superman found Superboy's existence disturbing, and I like how they're nuanced if not perfectly noble. But other versions of his character did not go through those sort of issues. Is there a particular reason you decided to include them? Did it just make more sense to you than instant acceptance, or did you want to try something different with the character, etc.?

4.) A more minor query: about how fast can Billy's "Speed of Mercury" go? My math (which admittedly might be wrong) says it took him about a day to get home from India in "Alpha Male." I would have guessed it would just take a few hours, but maybe I'm just over-estimating it? (He's still flying about as fast as a plane, after all.)

1)Usually, the origin of the Joker is a mistery to anyone, including himself. But you said that you create backstories pretty much for all your characters, even if you don't necessarely put them in the show. 1. What exactly are the 'lords of order and chaos'? I couldn't really find much information on them (plus this being your universe artistic license could easily rewrite their purpose) and I am curious since two of the characters (Nabu/doctor fate and Klarion) fall into this catagory.

2. What made you decide to make Klarion a lord of chaos? Initially he was a young witch boy from another dimension who happened to be versed in magic (and more than a little bit of a nasty streak) and in a later incarnation he was a rebellious kid from limbo town (witch city under gotham) with a confusingly grey moral chompass.
So I am sorta curious what made you decide to go in the direction of 'lord of chaos' for the Klarion character.

3. If Teekl is Klarions connection to the mortal plain then does that make her Klarion's equivalent to Nabu's helmet of doctor fate?

I appologize if one or more of these questions could be considered spoilers but from looking around, few people have bothered to ask anything in regards to this very interesting character.

M'gan's resorting to form against uncle convinced me he knew and thought it nothing odd- like the 'game'. With all information you chose to share on the Martians I wonder why we haven't seen him in that form at some point.

Equally nice, though less obvious, is the body language between Roy, Ollie and Dina. That's family...makes what comes later a bigger shock.

I missed the implication that Guardian was a clone too.

Another happy review: Usual Suspects-

First the shorts-
Green Care Bear-not a bad parody. Odd it seems it wouldn't be my thing, but I liked it better than the Ardman one, and that would ordinarily be my thing.

On to the show.
Rocket has nice line that needed saying, "Since when is being a sidekick a bad thing?" (So here too she convinced Icon to be a hero? For now I am assuming her original back story.)

Icon- "You don't know Raquel...though I thought she'd at least stick around." Nice beat. Icon has a strangely stilted form of speech, like someone new to the language and not, presumably, here for 150 years already.

Old times for Artimas and Jade = "Dad pitting us against each other." No, that's not at all dysfunctional....

Great voice acting "OK Fine. We're sisters, I don't actually want you dead." Sheepish- like a bad guy has to apologize for not always being the absolute worst.

Zatanna & Rocket walk off together here... and are inducted together the JL 5 years later.

Super Boy coming clean is a rare instance of someone choosing that moment to NOT dig deeper.

Didn't notice the first time I saw the episodes, but when Conner inspired Artimas to come clean Cheshire was already on the way to pick her up. She was actually past the time to not dig deeper and was probably in the hoping something unexpected saves her stage. M'gann too, even deeper, since Artimas has said no to her father's face before. Queen Bee was exerting power over M'gann. (It also has a slight parallel to Superboy handing the arrow back to Arrowette in the original Young Justice- trying to give her a chance to unmake a bad decision.)

"Who's next?" "I am." "I swear I was kidding." Great timing and image.

mmm... Robin knew Artimas's secret, Conner knew M'gann's (wish I could recheck his reaction to bald M'gann.) Nice that they took the involuntary step back. Accepting is not the same as not being startled.

Performance- very nice...

...But first a very quick review of the DC Nation shorts:
"Animal Man...!" bwahahaha SBFF...happy happy.

Question 1- apropos of very little, what do you think of the new DC logo? Personally, I like it fine on tv, especially when they can fill the bottom image with moving images. Although it still strikes me as a good logo for a different product when I see it still, mostly I don't notice it any more.

Haly's Circus...you can go home again!

Question 2 (a little long) - Haly's always seemed to me a bit of a golden childhood that Dick can revisit at any time and has a lot to do with why he is nowhere near as dark a character as Bruce. They couldn't raise him after his parents' death, but they were still family. They saved money to support him. They always welcome him to visit and step right back into his old life.

I'm working on the assumption that you are too busy to keep up with the current main universe comics, but are you aware of the current Court of Owls storyline? In it it turns out that the circus and the Graysons were part of a centuries old kabal that controls all but only rises to the knowledge of the public as nursery rhyme references. The circus exists to provide enforcers who are made somewhat dead somewhat immortal and unquestioningly loyal. Dick would have been next had it not been for the accident that killed his parents and took him away.

Divorced from Batman and Dick it is an interesting story, but I find it galling that they have so changed the circumstances of Dick's life- it has made monsters of his circus family, of his own parents; they all knew what was in store for him. It seems too far a departure from the basic truths of a character.

{Oddly I'm enjoying the heck out of the current Wonder Woman storyline which does the same to Thymiscara - now there are no men because they go out on ocean raids, take over ships, get pregnant, kill the men and give away the male babies. They would have killed the boys, but instead they trade them for armor and weapons because Hephaestus insists upon it. His own history making him particularly empathetic to unwanted children. I should object to the change on the same grounds, but the new mythological based series is so different my mind has simply been treating it as a fantastic elseworld run.}

If you are familiar with the City of Owls story, what do you think of it? In general, what do you think are the limits to how far you can push a story while remaining true to its essence? You've done several adaptations, what are the guideposts you use to what is and what is not acceptable?

Personally I reference the movie The Iron Giant when, er...spoiler free version...when the Giant makes a momentous decision at potential great cost to himself, he remembers a previous discussion with the boy, "You are who you choose to be". He smiles and says, "I am Superman". Any none elseworld depiction of Superman must be one in which that thought make sense. To my mind, Dick is always an orphan of a loving family, not someone who narrowly escaped the family job of unkillable assassin. What was the reasoning behind not giving Artemis the "Tigress" persona, whether or not she eventually becomes a villianess...

Was it to keep at least one thing true to her origional character? Brcause that was her name when you wrote about her and you dont like other peoples ideas? You just like the name better? Other reason?

Personally, I usually detest the idea of writers making hero monikers rxactly the same or similar to given names...but im also a HUGE Greek mythology buff, so I dont mind it much this time, im just curious about your (was it your...?) decision.

The local library finally got a few copies of the Season One Volume Three DVD of "Young Justice", and I watched it last evening. I enjoyed it, too. Here are a few thoughts about the individual episodes.

BEREFT: Psimon was one of the creepiest villains I've yet seen in the series - I especially liked his "Psimon says - forget!" line. I'm curious about this partner of the Light, and look forward to finding out more about him/her/it/they in later episodes.

Makes a change to have Superboy rather than Kid Flash wind up with a souvenir.

TARGETS: Hearing Ra's al-Ghul voiced by somebody other than David Warner takes a bit of getting used to (when I hear Warner speak, I can understand why you brought back the Archmage in Season Two), but another good episode. Lex Luthor was certainly impressive here, and his conversations with Red Arrow were a delight, contrasting Red Arrow's passion and suspicion with Luthor's calm, amused tone. (A bit like the confrontation between Goliath and Xanatos at Castle Wyvern in "The Edge".)

I picked up the "Superfriends" joke with Marvin and Wendy as two of Connor and Megan's classmates - and thought it was hilarious when Connor and Megan thought that "Kent" was a reference to Kent Nelson (clearly Superman hasn't been sharing his alter ego with them - though in light of his troubled relations with Superboy, that's not surprising). I also liked Connor's explanation about Rhelasian history and his bewilderment over humans at war with each other.

TERRORS: I'd seen Professor Strange in a few episodes of "The Batman", where he was a villain (and an especially creepy one, ready to plunge Gotham City into chaos more than once just so that he could study Batman), so I wasn't surprised when he turned out to be another agent for the Light.

Icicle, Sr. made an impressive villain, and I liked the parallel between the two Icicles and Superboy and Superman. Though I kept wondering who the guy with the odd helmet was, who'd recognized Superboy; my memory of some of the earlier episodes must be getting fuzzy.

And now we know why all four of those ice-themed super-villains were on the rampage all at once in the first episode.

HOME FRONT: The two Red Tornado-like intruders were truly creepy, and I look forward to seeing what their connection is with Red Tornado.

Among the highlights: Artemis commenting on how cliched the secret entrances behind the library bookcases were, the "They're all dead!" moment, Kid Flash helping Robin set up the EMP even while a prisoner, and Kid Flash and Superboy bluffing their captors. (Though the book-lover in me felt horrified when the intruders were on the loose in the library - I kept wondering what kind of damage those torrents of water and the toppling bookcases were doing to those books, even if it was less important than whether Robin and Artemis would be able to escape.

I hope that the local library will be able to get the rest of the episodes on DVD soon (I understand that the remainder of Season One comes out on DVD next month).

But recent information says there will also be a new Teen Titans go series[which is supposed to be comedy heavy..not sure how I feel about that. And it looks like its animation went very down]

Well, I haven't submitted a post in over a year-and-a-half and certainly none since I became an AskGreg moderator, so while I always feel a little guilty adding to such a lengthy queue I think I've earned a YJ review or two.

Besides, it's a reminder that no matter how much frustration this show's fans cause me sometimes, the series itself is FAR more than worth the price, LOL.

What follows will be a catch-all of reviews I wrote for the benefit of a friend, tracking all of the Season 1 episodes since "Coldhearted." I may do another collection of "Young Justice: Invasion" reviews at a later date, but for now, I figured I might as well share what I have with you as long as they're already written.

Now, without further ado...

COLDHEARTED: I thought this was simply fantastic. The extended plot reference to Greg's "Green Arrow Showcase" was a lot of fun, and it really helped to emphasize just how much of a badass Count Vertigo is in this version (plus, given that he was able to co-opt L-1 himself into his scheme, I think a lot of credence is now lent to my theory that he's part of the Light's inner circle of minions, alongside Sportsmaster and the Riddler).

Speaking of which, we got Vandal Savage's first substantive appearance in the show here, and I was loving every minute of it. The animation and sound-effects teams really knocked it out of the park here in getting across the sheer WEIGHT of his every movement, emphasizing the fact that he is first-and-foremost a hulking neanderthal. And of course, there's no one better to deliver those bonechilling lines than Miguel Ferrer himself.

But of course, the real "heart" (pardon the pun) of this episode was Wally West, and Jason Spisak really rose to the occasion and carried this episode from start-to-finish. Everything was hit perfectly, from his earnestness in celebrating his sweet sixteenth to his reaction to FINALLY being informed of the M'gann/Conner relationship to the heartbreaking guilt in his voice both times he believed Perdita to be dead...to the point where the performance fully convinced me that the girl had really died, BOTH times.

The voice work (Steve Blum doing his Spike voice for Mr. West = WIN) and score were most top-notch, as per usual, but the real accomplishment here production-wise was the animation. Good LORD, was the animation fantastic in this episode - possibly the best this series has seen yet, and that's saying something. The snow effect was perfect, and just look at the close-up of Wolf on the ice fortress...that level of detail is rarely seen on something that moves so fluidly.

All-in-all, one of my favorites of the season.

IMAGE: First of all, can we all give it up for a Beast Boy origin story that actually MAKES SENSE?! I loved Gar to pieces in the comics, but there's no denying his origin makes zero sense...until now. This was some excellent pipe-laying, and the shift of his eyes from blue-to-green post-operation was a brilliant touch.

I've been looking forward to seeing Queen Bee in action since I learned that Marina Sirtis (AKA Demona, the evil sex goddess of my childhood) would be voicing her, and I was NOT disappointed. That last scene had me in chills, with her cold and calculated delivery, rather predatory treatment of the eight-year-old Garfield, and lack of concern for M'gann's physical boundaries very much evoking an image that I can only describe as "female rapist." One thing's for sure: I definitely understand now why Greg and Brandon decided to include her as a member of the Light.

Oh, and while I'm on the subject of her...allure, may I just say that I loved this pair of lines:

Robin: "Doesn't she have the power to enthrall most men?"
Batman: "And some women."

Thus YJ may well have become the first "kid's cartoon" to admit that homosexuals, y'know. Exist.

But of course, the meat of this story was M'gann, and Danica McKellar's performance was quite frankly breathtaking throughout. She may not have turned out to be the mole, but she's still easily the darkest character on the Team now...and I'm not talking about her monstrous appearance. She basically LOBOTOMIZED Psimon to keep her secret, and continues to keep it - which, given the last scene, I'm guessing is going to have consequences that stretch into Season 2.

And finally, "Hello Megan!" itself...very, very cute. Reminds me of "Blossom" in its delightful cheesiness and grown-up-to-be-a-scientist teenage star, and the theme song is quite catchy. And as for "Greg Vietti and Brandon Weisman"...well, it definitely managed to put a smile on my face.

AGENDAS: Quite possibly my favorite episode of the season, and that's saying something. The highlight was of course Lex Luthor, and as an avid fan of the character in the comics and elsewhere, I can state firmly that this WAS Lex - his absolute best moments from the comics, translated perfectly from page to screen.

But as much as Rolston's Lex completely stole the scene whenever he showed up, this was first and foremost Superboy's story...and fortunately, Superboy is only barely edged out by M'gann as the most-developed character throughout the show's history. He's clearly developed a strong personal philosophy and principles regarding "freedom" since his own liberation at the hands of Kaldur, Dick, and Wally, which makes it all the more tragic when he has to compromise those principles in agreeing that Match is too dangerous to himself and others to be "allowed" freedom. In general, it's a very effective "confronting the demons of his past" story, especially considering that it's been so long since we've even SEEN Cadmus onscreen.

Still, arguably even more engaging was the episode's B-plot revolving around the Justice League. Being a political wonk, getting this behind-the-scenes look at the League's parliamentary procedures fascinated me to no end. The back-and-forth between personalities as strong as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, etc. is something I couldn't get enough of, especially when going back knowing what we know about the results of their decision now. The Green Lanterns' double "NO!" regarding Guy Gardner remains one of the most memorable laugh-out-loud moments in the show, and Batman's answer to Wonder Woman's accusation regarding Robin's age breaks my heart every time. And speaking of Wonder Woman...DAMN does Maggie Q knock that performance out of the park.

INSECURITY: Green Arrow is my favorite comic book superhero of all time and I've really dug the addition of this version of Artemis Crock to his mythos, so along with the fact that the scriptwriter was Peter David, responsible for the tightest script of the series so far ("Secrets"), I was greatly looking forward to this one. And I was not disappointed. Both Sportsmaster and Cheshire were in fine form, and do I even need to mention Brain and Klarion? The two make a fantastic "odd couple" in so many ways, and overall Klarion's pretty much been the breakout villain of the whole show...followed closely by this very Deathstroke-ish Sportsmaster. And to top it all off, Ivo's back for another round of tinkering...and any excuse for more Peter MacNicol is good with me.

I also liked that the Light's plans really came together here. Even before getting to see Starro-Tech in action a couple episodes later, it just felt supremely satisfying to witness the installation of Warden Strange, the echinoderm from Atlantis, the Fog with data stolen from STAR Labs, Kobra-Venom, and Klarion's Chaos magic all combine into a product that justified a full season of subterfuge. The banter and cooperation between the bad guys is one of the things that really makes this show stand out for me, and this episode delivered that in spades ("Morrow's in a coma? Did I already know that?")

But yeah...back to the heroes. Specifically, Artemis and Red Arrow. Both perform as spectacular foils to each other, and while it's easy to get really peeved at Roy for his treatment of her (particularly in hindsight), I can also greatly sympathize with his viewpoint. He's a professional - it's quite literally the only life he's ever known - and even without the mole suspicion on her head Artemis has got to seem somewhat superfluous to him, a back-up archer who should be stepping aside when the moment really counts, as it so often does on missions involving the Shadows.

The two work very well in concert, but it's hard for him to see that when she's objectively just not in his league and for her to see that when she's quite justifiably concerned about exactly that same "superfluousness." It gets to the point where, even after all we know about her from the rest of the season (especially "Homefront"), the tag can really play with our expectations. Lawrence is damn good at manipulating his "baby girl," and she knows it.

Oh, and I'd be remiss if I didn't at least mention Joshua Keaton's cameo as the Spectacular Black Spider(-Man). Pure, unadulterated WIN right there.

PERFORMANCE: Now this was a gem, though perhaps not quite to the SAME level as the phenomenal episodes both preceding and following it; still, even when YJ is merely "really good" as opposed to "bloody fantastic" it still beats the snot out of pretty much every other show airing right now, "Legend of Korra" excluded.

Dick Grayson's been overdue for his own showcase, and this episode definitely delivered on that score. It's a really difficult task to take a story most everyone already knows and make the tragedy ring in full once again, so this show made a FANTASTIC choice in going with a "less is more" approach regarding Dick's remembrances of his family. The music, Wally's vague hints, and that distant cry of "Ladies and gentlemen, the Flyyyyyying Graaaaaaysons!"...gah, it gives me chills every single time I hear it. That scene alone is worth the price of admission.

As for the main plot, while Parasite is far from my favorite villain of the season, he plays his part quite well. This is a guy who should be terrifying - after all, he merely has to go around and tap some shoulders at a Justice League press conference and suddenly he's the most powerful entity on Earth - and this series did a MUCH better job at conveying that than the DCAU version ever did. His constant (but never over-the-top) food metaphors, his voice as supplied by the great Adam Baldwin, and the fact that he spends the entirety of his first major scene in a creepy-as-Hell clown suit all add up to a suitably unnerving villain.

The rest of the episode isn't the absolute best - but that may just be my personal preference, since I don't tend to like "circus episodes" very much - but it's filled with some fantastic moments. Superboy's B-plot is hard to watch but also highly sympathetic, as most addiction metaphors are (after all, if you could make yourself fly and shoot laser beams from your eyes with the ease of basically pushing a button, wouldn't YOU find it hard to stop?) and Nolan North pulls out some of his best acting chops in tracking the devolution of his higher mind as the Shields exert greater and greater influence. The mole plotline also continues, and we get some great lines from both Roy and Artemis out of it. And circus episode or no circus episode, that final scene with Jack Haley and Dick is utterly heartwarming.

USUAL SUSPECTS: Now, here's where things get a little tricky. Unfortunately, thanks to my position as an AskGreg moderator and some supremely idiotic and/or trollish posters who saw the Brazilian episodes weeks ahead of time, I was forced to be spoiled on several significant plot points for both this episode and "Auld Acquaintance" (including that Red Arrow was the mole, that he was a clone, that the Light has the original Roy and he's missing an arm, that Vandal would end up on the Watchtower, that Cheshire would save Artemis' life, etc.). Fortunately they were both of such ridiculously high quality that it didn't matter all that much in the long-run, but I can't pretend it didn't color my impressions watching them for the first time.

Anyway, with that out of the way...where do I start? SO DAMN MUCH happened in this one that it's almost mind-boggling. Rocket/Raquel Ervin joined the Team and four new members (five if you count the re-branded Doctor Fate) joined the League, and while we still haven't yet gotten heavy-heavy on characterizing any of them apart from Red Arrow, it really helped to further improve the "realism" of this League. The induction of new members is cause for a press conference held by Superman and broadcast live; reporters immediately take advantage of the almost unique gathering of League members to ask questions like, "Will Atlantis be joining the UN?"; they even hand out membership cards! It's the little details like that which truly impress me on this show.

Both the Team and the Light were at the top of their game here, and it was magnificent. Riddler gets some great lines and, assuming the idea of passing the Starro-Tech along through a loss to the Team was intended, some great strategems as well. Plus Bee, Luthor, and Sportsmaster remain at their high points as established by the previous string of episodes; "Young man, if you wish to detain me, contact my attorney" is easily one of the best lines out of anything ever.

In general both of the major fight scenes feature some of the best action in this series yet, and THAT is saying something. Everyone, including Rocket, got something to do and a chance to shine, and setting the big showdown on Santa Prisca - where the Team first truly came together and succeeded at their first official mission - was a brilliant way to show how much these young heroes have grown. As for the canyon fight, Superboy's final Shield-induced rampage looked like it was ripped straight from Guts in "Berserk," and the fanboy in me was sallivating at the utter AWESOMENESS of his rapid-fire pummeling of Mammoth. And speaking of which, it was a great touch to give us more than just generic mooks to take out by bringing back Mammoth, Shimmer, Blockbuster, and Bane. Again, it shows just how far the Team has come...especially Kaldur, whose tactical skills (especially in the appropriation of the mooks' Apokoliptan tech to neutralize Sportsmaster and Blockbuster) now rival even Batman's.

The real meat of this episode, though, wasn't the eye-gasmic action...but the confession scenes intercut throughout it. Magnificent bastards as they are, the one thing the Light continually underestimates is the familial bond that links this Team together. This is in contrast to the League, which as "Agendas" displayed quite thoroughly is a mixture of friends, colleagues, and begrudging allies. So getting to see Conner, Artemis, and M'gann choose - CHOOSE - to detach themselves from the narrative theme of "secrets and lies" showed a level of heroism that is beyond incredible. And kudos again to Kaldur for his completely nonchalant response to Miss Martian's true form. The man runs a tight ship, and this was the episode that truly showed it.

And finally...that last scene. Fortunately, the fact that the ENTIRE League was going to get Starro-Tech'ed was NOT spoiled for me, so while I was expecting Red Arrow's unconscious betrayal I certainly wasn't expecting to see every member of the Justice League bow down to Vandal Savage. It was ridiculously chilling imagery, and got me pumped as Hell for the grand finale.

AULD ACQUAINTANCE: This. Was. AMAZING.

As I said in my previous review, the Team has truly proven themselves as a tight-knit family and a well-oiled machine under Aqualad's expert leadership...and this episode provided the ultimate test for said proof. One moment of pure awesomeness from Red Tornado is enough to give them the opening necessary to take on the entire Justice League one-by-one, and WIN. A full season of gathering resources and allies, of training in stealth attacks and subterfuge, and it all pays off here.

It helps that they made it extremely clear that this was not opposition the Team could beat head-on; in a straight fist-fight Superman would pulverize Superboy, and in a straight race the Flash would leave Kid Flash in the dust. Instead the Team takes down the League through intelligent application of teamwork, the element of surprise, and no small amount of "dirty" tactics...allowing Crowning Moment of Awesome after Crowning Moment of Awesome without making the League seem to weak by comparison. This was especially true of the "World's Finest" duel that closed out the final fight scene, with an epic Fastball Special and a suitably dramatic first unveiling of Kryptonite on Earth-16.

The character that most shines here, however, is Vandal Savage himself. After "Coldhearted" showed us just how much of a beast the man is in terms of physical attributes, more "force of nature" than mere supervillain, this episode did the same for him on the mental and strategical side. The speech he gives to Dinah, Red Tornado, and Roy aboard the Watchtower underscores him as a very different type of Big Bad than most superhero shows, displaying a worldview and aspirations befitting a man who's been seeing the bigger picture for longer than recorded history.

He's a monster with a point, which is certainly the worst kind...but he's a monster nonetheless. And while what he's selling - an intergalactic empire with a utopian Earth at the center of it - can sound incredibly appealing, to the point where individuals as diverse as a leading captain of industry to a genius scientist to the personification of Chaos could buy into it completely, the price he demands is far too great. The world he represents is one where the individual has no protection from the supercriminal...and when that world includes powers, magic, and tech capable of killing hundreds, Vandal's vision is horrifically unacceptable.

There's so much I haven't yet mentioned about this incredible episode; Greg Weisman is without a doubt television's greatest expert at fitting the most action possible into 22 minutes, without making it seem cramped or forced. Red Arrow quickly becomes probably the show's most tragic character (and THAT is saying something) in a revelation that makes one revisit the entire season in a new light; the romance and sexual tension reach their peak in one glorious New Year's moment (followed by Red Tornado delivering one of the funniest lines of the season); Clark and Conner finally find their accord and my heart explodes with rainbows; and a mystery reaches through into the next season that leaves the viewer in chills.

This episode was the perfect season finale. I have no complaints.

Have you settled on the location of Superman's Metropolis? Based on the in-series evidence, I think it's safe to say that Earth-16's Gotham City is in Connecticut. My best guess for Metropolis is either Maryland (at the tip of Chesapeake Bay, as in FLASHPOINT) or the semi-traditional location of Delaware. I could go as far north as New Jersey, but that just doesn't seem right.

1) In "Bloodlines", it appears that Wally arrives in Central City just after Impulse. However, when Nightwing calls Wally initially, the map indicates that Impulse is already in Indiana/Kentucky at this time and moving very rapidly (passing through states in several seconds). I believe Central City is somewhere in the midwest, though you haven't specified. Given that Wally is established to be noticeably slower than Impulse, if he is in Palo Alto when he gets the call, he would likely arrive in Central City a good bit later than Impulse. This is supported by how long it takes him to run across the country in "Coldhearted", although that was during a blizzard. Is Wally's quick arrival a continuity error? Maybe he was already near Central City when he got the call. There's probably enough ambiguity that it can be explained away regardless. Sorry for being so nitpicky about this. Feel free to provide a snarky response.

2) I liked line about the intersection of "Fox and Gardner". I'm sure this was a shout-out to the late Gardner Fox, original writer of Jay Garrick's Flash. Do you remember whose idea it was to include that line?

3) Peter David wrote "Bloodlines", and he also wrote the original YJ comic. Did he write this episode because it was the introduction of Impulse (a primary character from the comic)?

4) Was Neutron's suit intended to resemble the Anti-Monitor from Crisis on Infinite Earths? I'm not too familiar with Neutron, but from what I could tell his suit design on the show appeared to deviate from his designs in the comics. I thought this might be intentional as a reference to Barry Allen's memorable death in the crisis.

5) Lastly, why did you choose Sportsmaster as a primary villian on the show? I imagine it was related to the decision to use Artemis. I ask because I think you've done a great job of making Crusher Crock compelling and realistic. I like how he pole vaults over a wall in "Targets" and uses the discus and javelin as weapons. In my opinion this makes him seem much more like an athlete (decathlete?) and less like a big thug/goon which many villian enforcer types seem to be.

It probably seems a little out of date since I first posted it after Missing aired. (I also originally mispelled Klarion like a Clarion. I'm looking forward to how you'll respond to that posting when there is no previous post to be referenced.):

Catching up before posting leaves me making comments of shows that aired weeks ago! I don't have a lot to say on all of them, but as a whole they've been outstanding:
Missing
1- (question) I believe someone has already asked if Zatana stays in her old school. {yep- several people asked, and you answered} With Z Tubes it is easily possible and would leave her with a sense of stability. But it does leave me wondering- Zatara appeared openly a member of the Justice League-
a- Do her friends know she was connected to the superheroes?
b-Had magic herself?
c-Lost her father?
d-In the comics Zatana lives in a family mansion full of magic. Does it, or something like it, exist in the YJ world?
2 (comment)- I see I am not the only one to notice Babs & Bette together again.
3- (comment) Didn't love Riddler's costume. I think I have a think for bowlers :)
4- (comment) Nice touch- Cat looking badly tired reporting the news. The only time I remember broadcasters looking tired was 9/11. (I think the lead anchor for NY1 went 48 hours straight on air.) This would be a matching level event.
5- (long question- modified at end) (I'm asking this question in case the how itself is a spoiler. Other folks have asked how.) Others have asked about children in positions that suddenly being separated from adults might have been injurious, even deadly. Often I see issues of intent helping get around certain such unpleasantries- ie. Since even most really bad guys would not want newborns dropping to the floor as their parents disappear, that wouldn't happen. Either the swirling magic would deposit then on the floor more slowly, or the spell itself would take a few seconds to finish for parents to move the child from the unsafe position. (Much like the image of Hudson and Goliath stretching against the stone sleep in Awakenings when they realize they were lured away from the castle before the massacre.) Intent does seem possible here, otherwise why would the age of 18, a societal construct that doesn't even cover the whole world, effect the spell. {Or is that 'affect'? Both look wrong to me. My grammatical instincts stink.} But that it doesn't seem to work because I don't think Clarion {see- wrong spelling;} cared one way or the other if babies died. (IIRC the more light hearted source material had a misguided kid causing the whole story, djin powered, I think. His not wanting any kids dead would be enough for there not to be.)
a- I don't know anything about the other magic folk. Would their intent affect Clarion's spell? And if so did any of them have enough basic empathy to care to protect the children at the moment of the transition?
b- That wouldn't help children in cars or buses at high speeds or on planes. If you watched the show Flash Forward and saw the image of planes falling out of the sky into buildings, that sort of devastation seems inevitable on the children Earth. The actual vehicles may be fine from the adult Earth, but any loss of life would be permanent. On the other hand, that sort of trauma would deeply scar the world. I can't imagine the event would not be mentioned frequently overshadowing most other events for episodes to come. While the tone of this story is way more serious that the original World Without Grownups, it wasn't that dark. Am I misreading that there was a way that the millions of planes and trains and cars of the world were largely somehow stopped from killing thousands of children?
{In an answer that has since been posted you said something to the effect of "that would depend on Klarion." So explicitly -were there mass child casualties that night? And if not, was it Klarion's intent that prevented it? If it was his intent, was that intent at all based in compassion?}
6- (outdated question- you've since explained the mechanics of it all making the answer here 'no'.)- In World Without Grownups the adult world was the original and kid one was a copy. By that logic only property damage on the adult world was permanent. Was that the case in Missing?
7- (Comment) I love that Wally took the Sippy cup as his souvenir it speaks volumes to his growing maturity. Though as a mom all I can think is, "I really hope that wasn't the kid's favorite."
Mmm… That makes me think; when I started watching Gargoyles and following this site I was in college. Now I'm married with two kids, (one who will need to be picked up in a moment…). It really behooves me to thanks you, and Gorbash and all the Station8 helpers and posters for years of enjoyment. Besides a like community of fantasy lovers, some of the best lessons of story craft I've had came from these shows and these pages. Like why it was important that it was clear that Elisa was never in danger from the start of Long Way to Morning. Or how you can have a great double entantdre (sorry, no French spell check) in a kids show if you actually make the first meaning solids enough to stand on it's own (Spidy). It has made me far more appreciative of and attentive to good entertainment. Thank you all.

Greg just want to start off by saying i love young justice and gargoyles and i still watch some gargoyles to this day. My question is why did the writers primarily decide to make Superboy and Miss Martian the only characters that really get focus and are in every episode?
In season 1 once in a while Aqualad or Artemis would get an episode even Wally but Wally and robin barely did anything. Now we skip into season 2 and Wally is retired and Grayson is team leader but only seems to make cameo apperances. You mentioned season 3 if it happens will have another time skip i assume Nightwing will probably be gone but i was just hoping that the guy would actually have important story lines before he is gone. The other character also i feel should get some type of importance it feels like the Superboy/Miss Martian and friends show.

Hi again greg, If I remember correctly, it's been established that Martians age 1 year for every 3 earth years, New gods from Apocolips and New genesis are ageless, Lords of chaos and order are ageless, Amazons are immortal and Superboy currently can't age visibly.
1. This made me wonder if there were any other aliens or metahumans that age at a different rate than humans or have a longer lifespan, such as maybe Rannians, Genomorphs and Clayface since he got his powers from overexposure to the Lazarous pits.
2. Back in infiltrator, Robin used an override code to get past the security at Wyne Tech. If I'm correct, the code RG4 consists of his initials (Richard Grayson)and 4 would either mean that he's the 4th person to have a similar override code or he has 3 more for other uses. If it's the first case, would the 3 other people be Bruce Wayne, Lucius Fox and Alfred Pennyworth?
3. In the episode Salvage, when Superboy said he could relate to the Appellaxian Golem when it said through blue beetle that it wanted to end the pain and essentially destroy itself, does that imply Superboy has contemplated suicide at one point? I just want to be sure about whether or not that was the case.

I'm sure you don't remember this, but I came to your signing on Free Comic Book Day at Meltdown Comics, and I just wanted to let you know that that was a truly amazing moment for me. You are one of my biggest heroes, and the Young Justice issue you signed along with the photo my dad took of me with you are now two of my most prized possessions.

Greg, I'm a big fan of Young Justice, and I think it's really great that you are willing to answer questions about your creations like this. I have 3 questions:

1)In "Salvage", Artemis and Wally go to school in Palo Alto. Is this meant to imply that they attend Stanford? I ask because I figure you won't be mentioning an actual university on the show.

2)Also in "Salvage", Red Arrow's apartment appears very similar to the apartment at the end of the "Under the Red Hood" movie. I'm guessing you recycled the animation to save money, but did you intend it to be a nod at the Jason Todd/Roy Harper Outlaws, or was it just coincidence?

3)In "Targets", during the scene outside Happy Harbor High School, there is a moment where 4 people wearing logos on their shirts are lined up as follows: Superman ("S"), the high school ("H"), Flash (a vertical lightning bolt), and Batman (which in this case looks a bit like a "T"). Was this meant to resemble a certain 4 letter word that would be inappropriate for a cartoon, or was it just a coincidence? I laughed when I saw it because it's pretty clever.

Hey Greg -- big fan of Young Justice and especially the Season 2 time skip. I found that Season 2 has colored my view of Season 1. The Season 1 episodes seem more poignant -- almost tragic in hindsight, knowing where some of the characters end up. But seeing a character like Robin grow up is like watching a nephew get older. One second they're a toddler, and a few blinks later they're 18 -- time flies!

I'm also impressed by the fact that the early YJ episodes are actually better in the context of the entire series. I find that many serial shows negate their earlier episodes when mysteries are solved and long-running plotlines come to a head. Young Justice is definitely NOT one of those shows.

Anyway, I remember reading an interview in which you stated you had about 7 months of development time on Young Justice. Here's my question:

1) How much of the series (Season 1, 2 and more) was conceived during this phase (plotting, characterization, designwork) and how much came after you got the greenlight?

I'd like to say that as much as I respect the old DC cartoons shows (the ones which were collectively known as the DC Animated Universe), I feel that Young Justice has, thus far, done MUCH, MUCH better in many ways (which would be too much for me too list). I am enjoyed the fact this parallel DC Universe, better known as Earth-16, is similar to the mainstream DC universe, and yet, you are always finding numerous ways to create so many unique twists in the characters and the storylines. It makes it very exciting to watch. I'll let you know that, as I might have said in some postings, that I am continuously praying to God every night that Cartoon Network be very generous to you and renew Young Justice for future seasons. A show as good as Young Justice should never, EVER, end.

Hi Greg:

I have a few questions that pertain particularly to Amazo. As I believe his story is over, I'm hoping none of these questions will run afoul of the spoiler rules.

1. Amazo's powers appear to be based on technology (when he replicated the Canary cry, there was a sonic cannon in his mouth. Given this, would he have been able to replicate powers that are hard to replicate with technology, such as the Green Lantern ring, Martian Manhunter's telepathy (he didn't mind-read Superboy's intentions when he was accessing Martian Manhunter), or Zatarra's incantations?

2. It was never shown on-screen, but does Amazo also have the attendant weaknesses when he is accessing a specific hero (say, Kryptonite to Superman or fire to Martian Manhunter)?

3. Given that Professor Ivo was revealed to be a Light agent, why didn't he build more Amazos to do all that work on Rimbor? Wouldn't it have been easier to do so, than to try to infest the League and the Team?

4. The Amazo display in the Hall of Justice museum (in Alienated) has an intact head. Is this a replica of the original? If it is a benign replica, why is it shown in a disassembled state?

First thing's first: give credit where credit is due. Congratulations on the completion of Season 1. What an action packed final two episodes! I was very disappointed when CN decided not to air them back to back. I was literally sitting on pins and needles for a week between "Usual Suspects" and "Auld Acquaintance." The revelations, the fight sequences, the plot! Everything was incredible. You and your entire team deserve a pat on the back.

Now, onto Season 2. I'll admit, after the opening segment, I was completely thrown for a loop. I did not expect a time skip like that. A few days, possibly. 5 years, absolutely not. I had believed that it would be way to soon to make that kind of a risky move. So when I saw it happen, I was naturally very worried. Now, three episodes in, I am pleased to say that I have officially been drawn into the new season and am anxious to see where the story goes from here.

I suppose the concern came from my love of all things Dick Grayson. He is my favorite hero of all time. It's been a long time since we've seen a young Dick tackling the streets of Gotham as Robin the Boy Wonder (last series that covered Dick as Robin for an extended period of time was "The Batman"). Seeing him advance to Nightwing so soon made me nervous, seeing as he usually becomes less of a focus whenever Tim Drake comes onto the scene. There were so few Dick moments last season (well, in comparison to the others, at least) that I didn't want to see who I believe is the best DC character get shoved to the sidelines too soon, but seeing as he's Team leader, obviously not gonna happen.

So, onto my question: Were you prepared for the audience's reaction to Season 2? Or has all the negativity towards the time skip surprised you?

In the comic book world, Superman's ability to freeze things can be fully explained by the "Joule-Thomson effect" in physics - Where the release of highly compressed air through a valve (such as pursed lips) causes it to drop radically in temperature. (Wikipedia!)
With HIS level of muscle strength doing the exhaling, he could freeze things easily.

Also, a major by-product of invulnerability should be that his lungs are alot tougher than normal humans and even other superhumans. So logically, his lungs should be able to COMPRESS and store much more air than normal people because he can handle higher levels of air pressure.

Sometime last year, you said the reason why Superman doesn't have his freeze breath in your show was because it wasn't believable enough.
It's a very fair point and i do respect your opinion, but which part was it exactly that's not believable?

In a way, his freeze breath can be explained by real-world science better than his heat vision. :)

Dear Greg, great job so far. Ignore the people who whine or think they know better than you do. The effrontery and rudeness and arrogance of some fans always amaze me. Your show is successful because of the way YOU are writing and plotting and not because what they think something ought to play out. I know I don't want to see something that has been done over and over in comics and in former cartoons. What is the point of that? I like YJ because it offers up something fresh and modern and it is part of the multi-verse? Earth-16? So nothing has to follow anything that is on other earths or continuity, right?

2. Do Atlanteans (in this continuity/earth 16) generally eat fish?

4. What sort of reasoning is there behind the choice to eat/not eat fish?

Quick question after reading some of your responses (which seem to ba all over the place on this issue)...when recreating a charicter that has a firmly established history in the DCu (as apposed to say Lagoon boy, who existed but didnt even have a real name until now), how MUCH of that history - if any - do you feel "obligated" (for lack of a better word) to include "nods" to that history?
For instance...and if this seems like a spoiler question, im sure you can think of another example that isnt...the Clark/Lois relationship is practically written in DC stone (as it should be!)...basically my question is: are you the kind of writer that respects the CHARACHTER when writing them, only what you petsonally like about them from the past, or do you like "leave your own mark" even if that means totally reimagining them?
Using the Clark/Lois idea as a beromiter, where do you stand? (ie, if you would never change anything THAT iconic, where do you draw the line?
