Hmm, I thought the only schools that had finals now were ones that worked on a quarter system. I've been busy with finals too. (studying for tests is really alien to me. So not like High School) I guess its good that this thing isn't here to distract me. Even though I'm wasting time here right now. AHH SO HARD TO FOCUS!!!!

Finals and Holidays are probably the main reason the room is the way it is this week. (It also couldn't hurt to have something to talk about besides Degrees of Seperation - did we ever come to any conclusion about the ASKGREG issues or is it time for the bimonthly discussion on what to do about it again? :-) )

Personally I've been rebuilding my main computer so I haven't had as much Internet Access as I would have liked to have up to this point.

My old P3 motherboard got fried so I tore out most of the insides and replaced almost everything - new P4 motherboard and processor, new harddrive, new power supply, etc. I've been mainly spending the last few days waiting for the parts to arrive and then reinstalling Windows and important programs (can't live without PowerDVD you know :-) ). And my brother said A+ certification was in vain. Ha!

Everything is in working order now but I swear to God, downloading drivers and working out hardware conflicts is such a pain. Next time I'm going to spare myself the high blood pressure and get a Mac.

Well, in my case, my reason for being silent is that there's very little that I can contribute to talks about "degrees of separation" between "Gargoyles" and other series, or anime.

"Busy week we've been having in here. Jeez, I can barely keep up."

No doubt because of finals. I've been really busy with them too.

Oh yeah. Hi, by the way. I haven't talked much (or at all) for the last little bit, but I'm still here :P

Accidentally erased my last post as I was posting. Here it is again:

AARON - You wrote: [What is this "Garlic Jr." you speak of?]

Its a fill in arc in Dragonball Z; it happens in between the end of the Freeza arc and the start of the Trunks Saga. Pure filler and some of the worst crap I've ever seen even for Dragonball Z.

You wrote: [And there we'll agree to disagree. Besides Noin and Colonel Un, I don't think there are any compelling female characters in Gundam Wing.]

Un got on my nerves! (Although it could be the dub - she came out sort of lifeless to me. I've really got to see some of the series in Japanese to get a better feel for it. But still in the end I wasn't that crazy about GUNDAM WING. Personally I'm waiting to see CHARS COUNTERATTACK on Adult Swim later this month. Every hardcore Gundam fan I know says that is Gundam at its finest.)

You wrote: [Always send a boy to do a man's job. He'll get it done in half the time and twice the angst.]

Actually that isn't always true - sometimes you can send a man who'll get it done in half the time and with twice the angst. Just watch BLUE GENDER.

Well, better late then never...

Airwalker> <<In other words 63-up is the Garlic Jr of Rurouni Kenshin.>> What is this "Garlic Jr." you speak of?

<<He's also got personality going for him>> I'll give you that.

<<something that only Sally Poe and Troah's girlfriend in the Circus have.>> And there we'll agree to disagree. Besides Noin and Colonel Un, I don't think there are any compelling female characters in Gundam Wing.

<<And what does strategy have to do with a mecha you ask? Absolutely nothing. :-) Thats why the average age of a mecha pilot tends to be 15 years old.>> To be fair, 14-15 is about the point at which your reflexes peak, and your brain is wired to make impulse decisions. Not to mention the god-like immortality that every teenager knows themselves to be possessed of. ;) Seems like a good time to try working a fantastically complicated piece of machinery in dangerous situations to me.

<<Need someone to pilot a mecha to save the world and humanity from destruction? Don't look to soldiers trained to fight! Find the nearest depressed disgruntled 15 year old and stick him in a mecha! And make him nervous by telling him that the fate of the world rests on his shoulders but never, ever tell him how to actually work the mecha. That takes up too much time. Then just sit back and watch him save the world.>>

Of course. See Law of anime #28 The Law of Technological User-Benevolence

The formal training required to operate a spaceship or mecha is inversely proportional to it's complexity.

and Law #42 The Law of Juvenile Omnipotence

Always send a boy to do a man's job. He'll get it done in half the time and twice the angst.

" Actually good old Spock appeared in an episode of next generation so it does count." -Silverbolt
funny you should mention that... that particular episode was just on TNN last night... although when i think about it, TNN plays about 15 million episodes of ST:TNG a day, so i shouldn't be surprised!

Oh yeah, and here's my Citizen Kane tie-in:

Orson Welles, who was in CK, was also in Touch of Evil with
Charlton Heston, who was also in Planet of the Apes with
Roddy MacDowall, who was Proteus.

Jurgan >> Besides, Nichelle Nichols (Diane Maza) was on the original ST too.

Treasure Planet >> Yes, considering two of the movies that placed above TP were Harry Potter II and James Bond 20 (or so), I thought TP did very well. $16.5 million, and a nice review in my local paper. If it keeps that kind of number up, it will be another Lilo & Stitch. (Let's be honest, when's the last time a traditional Disney animation - as in, non-Pixar - opened to HUGE numbers? Nowadays the long run is much more important, which is why L&S was their biggest success in the last 3 years. And, it was a really cute movie.)

Plus, I recently learned Emma Thompson and Pat McGoohan are in it. Woo-hoo!

"I'd like to see someone try GARGOYLES to CITIZEN KANE. Just for the heck of it."

Actually, it's pretty easy. I've got it in three:

Citizen Kane was, of course, directed by Orson Welles, whose final role was in Transformers with Leonard Nimoy, who was in Star Trek with a host of Gargoyles VA's. Or does that not work because it was only the original Trek series and not Next Generation?

****The whole Comment Room begins to vibrate. From out the window, a giant galleon can be seen sailing through the air. It stops with its starboard (sp?) side to the window as a small figure throws a grappling hook up to some unseen point. The figure then swings on the line towards the window...and misses it by a few feet, leaving a nicely humanoid-shaped impression in the wall. The figure, who is of course Blaise, climbs through the window with as much dignity (and little evidence of pain) as he can muster.**** I have returned!
...Not that I really went anywhere. I've been lurking, just without much to say. I do want to say that I hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving in here had a good one.

GABRIEL> Happy belated birthday! Did you happen to wake up in some strange place with no recollection of how you got there? ;)

TREASURE PLANET> I saw it last Friday, and I LOVED it! Seriously, I had a good time, and I loved how much of Silver's ambiguity they were able to keep.
That, and I've added Captain Amelia to my list of animated crushes (what IS it with me and cat-women?).
Also, I wouldn't say it flopped at the box office--it's in the Top 5 (at position number 4, yes, but considering the competition it's up against, that's pretty good).

GARGOYLES TO--> Well, some one connected GARGOYLES to TRON in several steps. I can connect it in *one* step:
David Warner was in both as a bad guy.
I'd like to see someone try GARGOYLES to CITIZEN KANE. Just for the heck of it.

I'll try to show up again sooner rather than later, now. Until then, farewell. ****Blaise, makes a running leap out the window towards the flying ship. Falling short, he screams out "I regret nothing!" as he plunges out of sight. The ship gamely endeavors to follow him.****

Mr. X> I don't remember the CoS music, but the Macbeth theme was turned into a midi a while back. As was the trio theme. If you give me your e-mail, I can send it to you (the quality is mediocre though).

Phil> If it looks like tv animation, that's because it was originally meant to be. From the AG archives: "they will be releasing a direct to video sequel. This is really three episodes of what WOULD have been the series strung together with a brief but (I think) impressive framing plot. So you will get the opportunity to get a taste of what the series might have been like." I doubt he's still working on it though, since he mentioned doing his last recording for it some time last year.

I may have found a clue as to what has been keeping Greg so busy lately. It's just speculation, but I got Lilo & Stitch last night and there's a preview for Atlantis II: Milo Returns. Looks like TV animation.

Also, has anyone seen Treasure Planet? I saw it last week with my kids and we all enjoyed it. I wonder what any of you thought.

Gargoyles to Star Trek in exactly six steps, without Star Trek being anywhere in the middle? Despite not being a Star Trek fan, I am equal to the challenge:

Next Generation's Patrick Stewart was in Conspiracy Theory with ->
Mel Gibson, who starred in Signs, directed by ->
M. Night Shyamalan, who also directed Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, both starring ->
Bruce Willis, who co-starred in Bandits with ->
Billy Bob Thornton, who did voice work for Princess Mononoke with ->
Keith David

Yay, I won! As my prize, I'm going to shamelessly plug a fanfic. Okay, I would've done it anyway, but this gives me an excuse. Just a week ago, I completed the first ever Gargoyles/Tenchi Muyo! crossover. I know there are at least some Tenchi fans here- I believe Airwalker was one, though I could be wrong. It's in the gargoyles-fans fanfiction archive, as well as fanfiction.net and tmffa.com If you're a fan of Tenchi, I'd appreciate your reading it. Actually, even if you're not familiar with Tenchi, you can read it anyway, because I found the universes meshed together so well and Tenchi elements were interwoven subtly enough that I could present it to Gargoyles fans without even telling them that it was a crossover (well, the Xanatos-style tag at the end would make no sense unless you knew about Tenchi, but otherwise, Gargs fans should have no trouble). It also borrows some elements from G2198 and Timedancer, although it is in no way related to TGS's Timedancer. Anyway, I'd appreciate it if anyone read this and told me what they thought. Click on the link if you don't feel like typing stuff. Enjoy! Or, don't enjoy and tell me why.

***********ATTENTION!!! TGS RECRUITMENT DRIVE ANNOUNCEMENT**********

The "Bad Guys" series is looking for two writers to flesh out their writing team for season one.

I must stress that this position is for WRITING SLAVE LABOUR **ONLY!!!** Accepted members will NOT, I repeat NOT have ANY input whatsoever in the content of the *first season* of "Bad Guys". This has a distinct possibility, however, of changing for the second season and beyond.

What is being asked for are people who have the time and ability to contribute their services so that the series may air as soon as humanly possible.

If you are interested in helping with WRITING ONLY, please send an email with the subject line "ATTN: BAD GUYS RECRUITMENT DRIVE" to tgs_info@yahoo.com.

With this email, please include a written resume, in story-scene format, of 750-1500 words. Please choose from one of the three topics below:

1) Thailog stole Demona's company and destroyed her new life. Now she's returned to settle accounts.

2) Matthew Bluestone finds himself torn between loyalty to his friends and the Illuminati's demands. Disillusioned, he uses a chance encounter with MacBeth to get some advice.

3) Fresh from a battle, the Ultrapack finds itself hiding out in a third-world airport hanger with absolutely nothing to do.

**VERY LARGE HINT** it would be best if these contained both meaningful dialogue AND action. Showing knowledge of past events in the TGS universe would also be considered a DEFINATE plus.

You have *ONE WEEK* to complete this mission, should you choose to accept it. The drive will end at Midnight on Tuesday the 10th of December. We need to know a) your level of committment, and b) how well you can write under pressure 8-)

PS.. these are not spoilers ;)

Firestorm: "Try this: Go from GArgoyles to Star Trek in six steps, WITHOUT Star Trek being in "

Okay, let's try this out.

Keith David, the voice of Goliath, had a recurring role as Lt. Williams in "The Job," which starred Denis Leary.

Denis Leary lent his voice to a character in "A Bug's Life," in which Dave Foley played Flik.

Dave Foley led the cast of "News Radio," which also included Phil Hartman.

Phil Hartman guest starred in "The Simpsons" episode "Marge vs the Monorail" as Lyle Lanley. This episode had a cameo by Leonard Nimoy as himself, who is probably best known for his role as Spock on "Star Trek."

Bada-bing, bada-boom.

Hmm, in six steps? Okay . . . I'm going to work backwards, if you don't mind. (Mind you, some of these are pretty obscure, but they were all in the same episode!)

Marina Sirtis, ST:TNG, was also on The Outer Limits with -
Roger R. Cross, who was also on First Wave with -
Sebastian Spence, who was also on the X-Files with -
Gillian Anderson, who was also in The Mighty with -
Sharon Stone, who was also in The Quick and the Dead with -
Keith David, from Gargoyles.

There are probably more mainstream chains you could use, but hey, whatever works ;)

Sincerely, Allaine

P.S. And if you wanted to do Gargoyles-LOTR without Rhys-Davies, you could always do something like Salli Richardson (Family Law) Tony Danza (The Practice) Michael Badalucco (The Man Who Wasn't There) James Gandolfini (The Sopranos) Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix) Hugo Weaving (LOTR).

Try this: Go from GArgoyles to Star Trek in six steps, WITHOUT Star Trek being in steps 2-5!
Also, if talking about a movie or a show, they have to be in the same movie or episode, not just in a series!
(IE: No Ewan McGregor to Harrison Ford just because they were both Star Wars movies)

Bonus points if you include the episode of Stargate SG1 with Demona.

I can do it easy. You want a Gargoyles to Lord of the rings in one step with-out the use of Star Trek?

Easy John Rhys-Davies. He was in Gargoyles and turned around and played in LOTR. You can pull from there to a lot of differant movies inclueding Indian Jones with Harison Ford who was in Star Wars. With John Rhys-Davies you could get to a lot of shows and movies.
