Warrioress - correct. Here's a tough one from Hunter's Moon Part 1. How many passengers, not counting Elisa or the thieves, got out of that subway car after the gargoyles intercepted the thieves? Admittedly, I had to watch the episode in slow motion to catch it.

BATTLE BEAST - Findlaech, in "City of Stone Part One".

ASK GREG UPDATE: Greg Weisman answered a question that I had about the "Pendragon" spin-off, and in the process of doing so indicated that the Questing Beast would (or at least might) have shown up in the series. That was a big surprise to me (although a fun one) since I hadn't thought that it would still be around (it wasn't on the Arthurian Survivors list - although maybe you had to be a sentient to make it). Now that's what I call an enjoyable revelation.

SILVERBOLT - That is one nasty creativity demon, especially the "Sword in the Stone II". ("The Sword in the Stone" is possibly the only Disney animated movie out there which could legitimately have a sequel, considering that it's the start of Arthur's reign - but since they'd never dare handle the Lancelot and Guinevere business, I can see why they'd end it there.)

Some years ago, somebody actually did write a sequel to "The Sword in the Stone" crossed over with "Gargoyles", at the Gargoyles fanfic archive, although I can't remember the name or the author now. It covered Arthur's reign with gargoyles becoming involved (three particular ones living in Camelot, one of whom goes bad, sides with Mordred and Morgan le Fay, but then gets smashed to pieces during his stone sleep by his treacherous allies), including the Grail Quest, Lancelot and Guinevere's affair, and Mordred's takeover. One nit in it was that they had Morgan le Fay plotting with the Weird Sisters, who were portrayed as already setting up their big scheme with the Archmage and involving Macbeth and Demona - but the Weird Sisters and the Archmage teamed up long after Arthur's original time period (Arthur was taken to Avalon in 542 according to Greg Weisman, over four hundred years before Princess Katharine and Co. moved in).

One interesting tidbit revelation at "Ask Greg": "fae" and "Oberon's Children" are not synonymous. Rather, "fae" are merely a sub-group of Oberon's Children (like the Norse gods and the Egyptian gods).

Well, yesterday Disney released a rather long list of DVD releases for the next 18 months or so. Gargoyles isn't on the list (and neither is Spider-Man and Hulk), but I think that's because they don't have specific dates yet for those releases. silverbolt mentioned the *cough* cheapqueals - and it really disgusts me that there are a lot of those getting special edition treatment. Since when does a low-rent crappy knockoff of a good movie deserve a special edition while other movies have yet to see DVD release and/or still have had rather depressing releases?

Anyhoo, clicky my name for the news article, from there you can see the full list of releases so far.

*sigh* Disney really is going down hill now, I mean these sequals are really getting tiresome now. I need to get thsi off my chest.

But at least there are some films they haven't touched yet but I've thought up some really obvious ones that they'll probably do, one day.

Beauty and the Beast 2: Belle's daughter (it's always daughters these days) is really selfish and mean blah blah blah, gets turned into a monster and only becomes human again once she learns about kindness and love and other crap like that when everyone gets turned into ornaments.

Sword in the Stone 2: evil madame Mim turns that little girl squirrel from the first film into a human in the usual evil bad guy plot to take over King Arthurs throne and the squirrel turns out to be Guinevere (Disney would defiantly do something as inaccurate that!)

Sleeping Beauty 2: Sleeping beauty's daughter... oh what's the point?! Ever sequal Disney does is the same! It's a poorly animated thing featuring the offspring of the originals in some crazy adventure where they learn about caring after being tricked by the cousin or sibling of the original bad guy!

Walt must be spinning around in his cryogenics tube...

Battle Beast - Stratches off 0, 1 (you said "shots", 2, and 3 as possible answers. 4 shots. [During the Halloween marathon on Toon Disney, I paid for copies to be made of all the episodes.] If this answer ain't right, I'm going back to watch the episode again, because I can't believe that Elisa got off more than 4 shots from a borrowed gun.

There's only 1 episode really worth having unedited (considered I have edited versions of all the stories), IMO: the one that was butchered the worst by Toon Disney the only time they aired it. An unedited version of "Deadly Force" in pretty good quality is what I would want. I'll send you an email with my address.

Nickerous > Re: "Why bother?" - Because on eBay, greedy bootlegging seller + naive buyer = big profit. That seller and the others like him are turning a pretty penny and as long as they avoid attracting Disney's attention they can keep right on doing it. If you want to see sellers like that get what they deserve, follow the links to the VERO program and report the auctions directly to Disney. eBay will not do anything about bootlegs unless the complaint comes directly from the rights holder. And with their own DVD release of "Gargoyles" in the works, I'd imagine Disney might soon start being a bit more proactive bout cracking down on this sort of think they have been in the past.

*studies Battle Beast's answer* Funny, my answer could be considered the simplified version of Battle Beast's answer, even though it was posted first. If one gets it wrong, both get it wrong.

Battle Beast - <Elisa DOES fire here gun.> Just so I understand the question correctly: the question is how many times does Elisa fire Elisa's gun not how many times does Elisa fire the gun she got from one of the goon squad? My understanding was the question was about the later, not the former.

Where's Gunjack from the other cr when I need him to clarify the differences between those two guns so I can understand the capacity of each?

Greetings "Gargoyles" fans,

The Seventh Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles is just seven short weeks away, and pre-registration will be ending on June 13, 2003. We've planned an event-packed weekend that you won't want to miss. Here are a few of the highlights:

GUESTS:

Joining us in New York City will be the lovely Brigitte Bako, making her Gathering debut. "Gargoyles" fans know her best as the voice of Angela, Goliath and Demona's daughter. Fans of Japanese animation will also recognize her as the voice of Pai / Sanjiyan / Pabo / Parvati / Howasho (the demon girl with multiple personalities) in the 2000 English dub of the animé series "3x3 Eyes." She is also the voice of Monique Dupre in the animated series "Godzilla."

On stage, Brigitte has performed in such distinguished productions as "Othello" at the Reflections Shakespeare Festival and "The Doll's House." On the big screen, she has appeared in numerous films, including "Paranoia," "Double Take," "Strange Days," "One Good Cop," and Martin Scorsese's "New York Stories." Brigitte was nominated for a Canadian Oscar for her performance in "St. Monica." Her television
appearances include the ABC series "Equal Justice," the Showtime original movies, "The Escape" and "The Red Shoe Diaries," and her role as Bianca in HBO's acclaimed series "Mind of a Married Man."

I wish there was a form we could sign absolving Greg of all responsibility if his story bears similiarities to an Ask Greg idea. But then I shudder to think how long the queue would be.
So my point is: at this point, anything that shortens the queue is a good thing. Now we are that much closer to finishing that damn backlog off. You should be happy Todd deleted your question Galvatron. It enriches us all.

GALVATRON - Let me put it this way. Say Greg Weisman gets to do "The New Olympians" at last. Say that he does decide to give Sphinx a rival suitor alongside Terry. If he'd seen your question about whether Sphinx had any rival suitors (and if he'd answered it, he certainly would have), then there'd be the possibility of your claiming that that idea was yours. That's why he doesn't dare look at anybody's suggestions for the series.

Well, I've been watching DVD sets of Gargoyles on Ebay just to see what they are going for. Currently, there is one that is up to $61. This seller has already sold 4 or 5 of these sets, but, every one is a private auction (bidders identity protected). I did some figuring on this and concluded that these dvds are no better quality than my SVCDs and, could be worse than mine.

The episodes I put on disc are around 400-420MB. This breaks down to around 2520bps ( I think bps is bits per second). This is the maximum bit rate for a cd if you want to play it in a dvd player. Any higher and you get slowdown and audio hiccups (looks like someone hitting the pause button repeatedly). I have gone as high as 4500bps and watched it on the computer screen. It looks like broadcast quality.

Now, a dvd-r holds 4.7GB, this seller has 15 episodes per disc (5 dvd-rs in the set), there are 1024 MB in a GB (someone correct me if I'm wrong here...it's been a while since I had a computer class)........meaning that each episode will average in the 320MB range.

Why bother? I know that dvd-rs are expensive, but why even convert to it if you don't get any better quality? I ran a test just to see what my converter's default settings are on a dvd-file....one episode of Gargoyles would be around 1400mb. Using the default settings, I could only get 3 episodes per dvd-r. If I doubled my episodes to around 800MB, I could get 6 episodes on 1 dvd-r and have much better quality than this seller.

Anyway. I saw this and wanted to rant. Hope I didn't bore anyone to death. Think I'll start labeling this posts BUYER BEWARE. ^_^

I know, that's why I said "almost." There are only around the neighborhood of 100-150 questions left for the year. When compared to the fact that each year has about 300-400 questions Greg is closer to the end of 2001 than he is to the middle.
Another interesting Ask Greg statistic:
There are right now well over 1000 questions on right now. I didn't actually count them, I counted the first 200, figured out about what amount of my scroll bar that was, and multiplied. So I'm guessing there are somewhere between 1200-1500 questions on ther.

Oh yeah, one more thing. The Gargoyles set I bought off of eBay came with a Batman animated series set as well. This set was 3 to a disc, but it looked much better. I'm thinking these were copies of professionally made vcds. Anyway, 1 episode of Batman and 2 episodes of Gargoyles wouldn't work for me. The seller sent me a replacement for each disc. I was pretty surprised by that. Most people on eBay will not stand by their product like that.

I will still buy off there, but only from sellers with high ratings. Sometimes not even then. The feedback is a good indication.

Hmm, talking about the VCDs on eBay, I think I'll throw this out as well. I've seen a few sets get bought up too (for lots of money, specially for the crap that the person is winding up with). But what really is making me ill, is I bought one set awhile back, and five or six of the episodes didn't even work. (I'm wary of eBay for many reasons - and only bought the VCDs just to see, they were dcheap so I'm not overly upset over the loss). But I wouldn't suggest trying to get any of the discs off of eBay, unless you really trust that seller. Nickeros already mentioned the quality, so I won't even go there. It's sad that people don't give a crap about true quality sometimes, it's all about getting your hard-earned cash.

Nickerous - <In the Toon Disney version, they skip> I noticed a really bad cut in "I'll Meet by Moonlight" when talking about Oberon's vulnerability. Too bad Xanatos didn't have a small iron bell on hand during "The Gathering" unless Puck was concerned.

I guess my question from last week about which hunter used what weapon against which gargoyle in order was a bit too hard. While I was recently watching "Hunter's Moon", I wrote down a bunch of small things down for trivia questions.

Admittedly, when I was watching "Awakening" again on my vcr, I ran the bit with Broadway eating in slow motion just to count the number of bites because I didn't believe the correct answer.

hmm. just thought of something else....

I noticed a ToonDisney cut out on City of Stone part 1. Haven't seen this posted anywhere.....Elisa tells Matt that they have confirmed IDs on hostages when he asks why they don't go in. In the Toon Disney version, they skip to her saying "Captain says, keep trying". I guess that was part of the September 11th cut along with the "terrorist" one.

Ok, I'm gonna be quiet now. :)

Oh hey, just wanted to throw this out too....don't know how many folks are into VCDs around here, but I've seen quite a few vcd sets of Gargoyles on eBay. I bought one of these a few months ago and want to share my experience.

These discs I make are 1 episode per disc. These that I bought are 3 episodes per disc. The quality of the bought ones really stink. They look OK on the computer, but absolutely horrible on dvd. Mine look good on both (and full screen on the computer. the others look ok at half-screen or even quarter-screen). Watch out for cruddy VCDs. I've made some that are 3 per disc, but they look better than the ones I bought (still nothing worth bragging about tho.)

So ends my techno babble post. :)

Well, Greg Weisman just answered some more questions at "Ask Greg" - and he deleted that whole string of questions by Anonymous about "Would so-and-so have gotten into the Gargoyles Universe?" 9th.

Recently, I noticed something a little - well, peculiar about the events in "City of Stone Part Four". When Canmore invaded Scotland in 1057, he did so merely as the Hunter, keeping his true identity secret (since Macbeth doesn't even know that the Hunter was Canmore until the two of each other were facing each other directly after the fall of Castle Moray). The question that I suddenly found myself wondering was why Canmore was keeping his identity secret during the war. After all, his true identity as Canmore, son of Duncan could have been an asset to him, since it would allow him to cast his invasion as "the rightful king coming to reclaim the throne unjustly stolen from his father" - which, indeed, he does in the Shakespeare play. Given the "PR advantage" that revealing his true identity from the start would have given him, why did he hide his name behind the Hunter's mask?

The most probable answer that I can think of was that nearly everybody in Scotland in 1057 still remembered what a tyrant Duncan had been, and were thus anything but enthusiastic about seeing his son upon the throne. But I'm not certain that even that's explanation enough. (This does strike me as a good question for "Ask Greg" when it becomes possible to submit questions to it again).
