i will stick to this account, i will not do that again, i really promise! Cross my heart and hope to die! look maybe for the best i'll go away for a while, give you all a break from me, give myself a break from this, i'll go away from this site for a while! And Greg Bishansky I'm sorry, i didn't mean to take those comics from Karine, i thought she was giving them away, i didn't know i had to buy them! i'm sorry! so i'll leave for a while and give you guys a break from me!

Wilman> I think we've all laid out our grievances against you. If you take them into consideration and change your behavior accordingly, I think you could stay.

But if you continue to seek undue attention (or post carelessly enough that it looks like you're seeking undue attention), I, at least, will continue to ignore you. It's a cliche, but it really pays to look before you leap.

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

I said i didn't get to do much in it,i didn't talk to Greg alot i didn't do all the plans i planned, it felt to me like i wan't really in it! Will someone please just tell me do i have another chance or should i just leave!
Wilman.
Wilman.

He was at the Gathering 2008 in Chicago. So I'm really not amused by the whole "I never got to go..." routine that I responded to earlier in the week. Other than that... I have nothing more to add on this topic.

Greg> You met this person at the Chicago Gathering?
Madame M

before someone yells at me to just go already all i want to know please don't shout or call me names just politelly give me the answer, can i be given a second chance or should i just leave this site forever, please be nice to me one last time and just give me the answer, i'll take it without question!
Wilman.
Wilman.

So i guess i should just go, and never come back then Huh? Really I'm asking?
Wilman.
Wilman.

At the risk of sounding like a complete hypocrite, I would like to add that your double- and triple-commenting (with very short comments, no less) gives me the impression that you post with undue haste. It particularly annoys me when those comments say pretty much the same thing, too.

Note that I haven't been here very long and had absolutely no idea that you had posted here under another name, or that you had even been to the Chicago Gathering, let alone what you did there. But just based on what you've posted here over the last few days, you frankly rubbed me the wrong way too. You're not likely to make any new friends, let alone reconcile with old enemies, behaving like that.

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

if i'm given another chance i stick to this one! but if not i'll just leave

Daniel/Wilman/Whoever: You can't keep making mistakes and expect people to keep giving you more chances. Nobody's going to trust a word you say now. You can come back with another identity but I'm sure everyone has your IP memorized by now, and you will get found out. The sad thing is, that you did this to yourself, and for no apparent reason.

A word of advice... you're not going to find where you belong if you keep making mistakes, changing your identity, and repeating those mistakes without learning from them. Don't blame the fandom... blame yourself.

So well Goodbye, i'm sorry for everything i caused, Unless i could have another chance but probably not, so Goodbye, And i just want to say thank you it was fun talking with other Gargoyles Fans! Goodbye!

Demonskrye> It's easier for me to follow the comics than the TV Show. Okay, Chapter Seven: The Rock. Brooklyn didn't look too pleased at the mention of The Stone. Broadway and Angela were rubbing salt in his wounds and didn't even realize they were doing it. Brooklyn didn't know how much longer he could stand to be around them. He certainly didn't appear to be too thrilled about going to Scotland as much as Lex was and inside, Brooklyn was probably screaming to get away from Broadway and Angela.
Gargoyleslady - [kendal dot renfro at yahoo dot com]

so just let me know and Demonskyre thanks for the advice, i'll do that!
Wilman.
Wilman.

yes i was in chicago, but i said it felt to me like i didn't attend that much!
Wilman.
Wilman.

fine i'll leave, i'm sorry for everything i caused, although i would like to have another chance, but if i can't fine, i'm sorry for everything i caused and i won't be bothering you. I always thought Gargoyles was the place i belong, i'm a gargoyles fan, but maybe not here! So let me know burt otherwise if i can't have one more chance i'm sorry again and i won't bother you guys anymore i'm leaving forever i promise!
Wilman.
Wilman.

Sorry for the double post, but I just saw this and I can't let it go.

WILMAN> <<but i wasn't being untruthfull in a way i really didn't attend a Gathering! Please Just give me another Chance!>>

You were in Chicago, you little prick! You're still lying through your teeth and you expect us all to "give you another chance?"

::rolls eyes::

Greg Bishansky

Daniel/Wilman/whatever you're calling yourself> We have been down this road with you before. You never learn. You caused trouble here a year ago. You caused trouble at the Gathering in Chicago... and yes, attempted theft is trouble.

And you never, ever learn your lesson. Ever. Maybe when you get in trouble at home, crying and pleading works on your parents. Well, you're not at home. We don't have to put up with you.

You made a conscious choice to lie, a conscious choice to deceive people here. I cannot speak for anyone else, but I was done with you a year ago. I am not your friend. I am not your acquaintance. I am not your enemy. I am your complete stranger, and I have no desire for it to go beyond that.

If you keep getting banned from forums, yes, there is a very obvious reason. Think about it.

Greg Bishansky

Daniel/Wilman/Whoever> You know, the sad thing is, when you showed up again under your real name (or what I'm guessing is your real name), I kind of was willing to give you another chance. I thought your idea was reasonable, if someone actually wanted to go through with it. So I figured if you didn't go back to the behavior that I found annoying the first time you showed up, I could give you another shot.

But then you went ahead and made it clear that you were doing the exact same stuff that ticked people off the first time you showed up. I could have even taken your explanation for why you started posting under a new name at face value, except that you went ahead and posted under your old name as well for no reason I can fathom and made it painfully obvious that you and your new identity were one and the same. And you lied. You can rationalize it any way you want, but you lied. The fact that you had a bad time at your first Gathering, mostly because of mistakes you made yourself, does not mean that you never went to a Gathering. There are people who really would have liked to go to a Gathering and couldn't afford to or couldn't get the time off of work, or had some other outside factor that prevented them from making it. My sympathies go out to them, not to someone who actually went to a Gathering and didn't enjoy it because people got mad at him for bidding on items with money he didn't have or making other mistakes.

Your credibility around here was not great before you showed up as "Wilman" and as far as I'm concerned, you're now well into the negative. I can't honestly say "Sure, we can start over" because you have repeatedly proven that you are not someone to be trusted. If you were to say "the sky is blue" at this point, I'd check out my window to see whether it had turned orange.

You don't get unlimited chances with people. Eventually, they're just not going to want to deal with you anymore. If you really want to find somewhere that you belong, I would suggest that you work really hard on being honest, standing by your actions and statements, and thinking about how those actions and statements will be viewed by others so you don't have to pretend you're someone else rather than be associated with what you've done in the past. If you can do that, you may well find a community willing to accept you. But I think you've blown your chances here.

Demonskrye - [<---"Toy Story 2" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

but i wasn't being untruthfull in a way i really didn't attend a Gathering! Please Just give me another Chance!
Wilman.
Wilman.

so that's it, it's too late for me here, i'm done here? it's over?
Wilman.
Wilman.

In the real world there are consequences for actions. Begging, pleading, being sorry doesn't change those consequences. Thinking before acting changes that. Being ignored, your credibility shattered is a direct consequence of being untruthful, argumentative and continually trying to push your agenda. If you really want people to think you are a better person, if you want to stop being banned from sites online, then don't do that kind of stuff. Begging and pleading and crying won't change the fact that you just aren't trusted, no matter how much of a 'better person' you are. Life lesson here. Learn it or expect to be banned anywhere you go.

Todd> That does seem more likely. But taken with the comment "I've already said to much," the "dying" may be more significant. Because so far as I know, Greg has never really said anything about Tom's father. So it could be a sort of jokey play on the word dying to imply that Tom's father is dead )which isn't really much in the way of information, because he would have to be dead by now unless something like immortality or time travel intervened). Or it could mean that Greg has said too much by even acknowledging that Tom had a father, which again, isn't really new information since he must have unless he was conceived through magic or other non-traditional method. Or it could mean nothing.
Demonskrye - [<---"Toy Story 2" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

please don't ignore me, i don't like to start arguments, please, i said i've never been to the gathering becuause in a way, i've never been! So please don't ignore me, please just give me another chance? I just want to talk and converse with fellow Gargoyles Fans! That's all i want i don't want to argue.
Wilman.
Wilman.

all right i used a different account i was just afraid of returning to this site with the name i used before because of the history i had on this site i'll stick to this one if it'll make you feel better! i was in 1 gathering but i didn't get to talk to Greg that much, and i made a bad impression on the staff, karine charlebois thought i stole her comics, i didn't have enough money to pay for the stuff i bid on, and i embarassed myself by asking Greg for his cell phone, my first Gathering wasn't great! I want to have another chance at it! So i'd like to have the chance to try it again! Also i want to have the chance to be friends with you guys, please can we forget the history you've had with me and just start over?
Wilman.
Wilman.

Todd -- I agree, and while I imagine that Greg's been eager to tell more Gargoyles stories in general, the fact that Tom's dad has been singled out as "Dying to tell you, really!" makes me think he might have something of a role in that Dark Ages one-shot Greg mentioned he wanted to do after he finished Bad Guys . . . once they do get picked again d:

Then the response might mean that, unlike other events in the Gargoyles mythos -- like Terry taking a little trip to New Olympus (which given Terry's age in Clan Building & Bad Guys probably won't be for awhile) -- Tom's dad could very well be revealed in the relative future . . .

Yeah . . . total speculation like the rest concerning Tom's dad, but that's my hunch d:

DEMONSKRYE - The context of Greg's use of the word "dying" suggests that he was using it in the second sense, rather than stating that Tom's father was literally dead (though he probably was).
Todd Jensen

Yeah, I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but given that his two big dramas are completely incompatible, it's obvious he's just making stuff up because he likes arguing. You've now forfeited all credibility, Daniel (If that IS your real name!... I've always wanted to say that), and I suggest you be ignored from here on in.

Tom's Father> What Greg said could go either way. Either "dying" means that he was dead by the time we met Tom and Mary, which seems likely because he isn't clearly around. Or Greg really is "dying" to tell us in the metaphorical sense because the story of who Tom's father is makes for a very interesting tale. If that's the case, than I suspect it's something more than "He was another peasant and a good husband and father who died." Either he's someone who we haven't met before but would find very interesting once we did meet him, or he's someone we have met and there's some particular reason why he's not with his wife and son during "Awakening." Maybe he had prior obligations that prevented him from being with them. Or maybe Tom's birth and parentage was problematic for him, leading him to be an absent father. Hmmmmm....

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Wait, Daniel and Wilman are the same person? But- Wilman is complaining that he never got to go to a Gathering. And yet, Daniel gave a long, drawn-out story about how he got Thom Adcox to read a fanfiction at the Chicago Gathering and wanted to continue it at the next Gathering. Remember, we went for days arguing with him about stalking the guests trying to get them to read some Ghostbusters fanfic?

http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/comment/archive/index.php?archive_date=2009-05-25

I haven't been around here because I haven't picked up my copies of the last two graphic novels yet, but that doesn't mean I don't occasionally lurk in the shadows.

I think it's possible that we've already seen Tom's father on-screen, but the evidence so far seemingly shoots down one semi-obvious theory who Tom's father might be.

"Come along. You belong. Feel the fizz."

Tom was about nine years old in "Awakening," I think. (Granted, we don't know much about Tom's age, except that he was born after the Archmage allegedly died, and that was in 984.) I doubt that Hakon had been in Scotland for nine years before attacking Castle Wyvern, so I doubt Hakon was his father.

I must guess that if Tom's father had been alive in "Awakening," he would have been with Mary and Tom. My hypothesis is that he died fighting the Vikings to give Mary and Tom a chance to flee to Castle Wyvern.

>Matt: Well, Goliath and Hudson saw a few seconds of sunrise in "Awakening, Part 1," if I remember correctly, when they were trying to resist their stone sleep.

Greg responds...

Dare I hope??? Or am I reading too much into this?

As for the latest batches of questions, so mreally good ones in there.

I asked Greg long, long ago, when "Ask Greg" was one page of green font and it took about an hour to load, (remember that, anyone?) about Gargoyle's bathroom habbits. As I recall, I got a rather curt response, but I don't even remember what I asked. At any rate, the question about stone skin shedding "waste" was basically what I asked (I think)...

That is all I will say.

I have an idea you guys know the 501st legion, right the Star Wars fan group that dresses up as characters from Star Wars, and rallies in many places, well Gargoyles is such a great series it deserves to have it's own Group that dresses up as characters from the show, what do you guys think? A group that dresses up as characters from Gargoyles like Goliath, Elisa Maza, David Xanatos, Fox, All The Coyote Robots, Quarrymen, The Original Hunter Gillecomgain, Duncan, Malcolm Canmore, Demona, And More, i mean we already proved we could dress up as characters of Gargoyles in The Gathering for The Masquerade so why not do it for rallies or events too? I mean i know there aren't alot of Gargoyles costumes around, but we could make them, professionally! Star Wars has it, Gargoyles should have it too! And the group could be called Gargoyle's Children Or Children Of The Gargoyles after Oberon's Children like How The Gathering Of The Gargoyles was named after the Gathering, or we could name it something else and who knows maybe Greg will name something in Gargoyles after it, like how lucas did with the 501st. What do you guys think?
Daniel Abraham Raviv - [dar111191 at gmail dot com]

A lot of interesting comments from Greg lately.

Note that he confirmed that Lex and Hudson were able to see at least some of the sunrise shortly after they arrived in London. Too bad we were not able to see those reactions. So gargoyles in the future will now have a method to see the sun... if they are willing to put up with th jet-lag.

As for the gargoyle reproduction angle, I actually think Greg is right here. The female gargoyle's cycle seems to be the more cyclical. It is worth noting that Constance only said that the mated pairs have to be seperated during the female's final heat. The male gargoyles apparently don't experience and seem to be able to mate at any time. For Yama and Sora, this could mean they could have three eggs, but it depends not on how male gargoyles respond to mating cycles, but rather how long male gargoyles remain sexually capable.

Demonskrye> It's easier for me to follow the comics than the TV Show. Okay, Chapter Seven: The Rock. Brooklyn didn't look too pleased at the mention of The Stone. He certainly didn't appear to be too thrilled about going to Scotland as much as Lex was and inside, Brooklyn was probably screaming to get away from Broadway and Angela.

Chapter Ten: The Gate

This was Broadway's first time seeing and hearing about The Phoenix Gate and that Goliath had thrown it into the timestream. He must be really bored spending quality alone time with Angela. Plus, after Brooklyn goes on his own tour it will be just Goliath and Bronx. He must not be used to there being just four clan members at the castle.

Gargoyleslady - [kendal dot renfro at yahoo dot com]

I got an answer to one of my questions yesterday, when I asked Greg whether he felt spooked by Disney's buying Marvel coming so soon after the Gargoyles/Spectacular Spider-Man crossover that he wrote for the Gathering. Judging from Greg's answer, apparently he's been in the entertainment industry long enough that hardly anything spooks him any more.
Todd Jensen

I saw the recent Ask Greg response concerning Sora and Yama's chances for a third egg. My biology background is in genetics, so I'm not that knowledgeable in overall cyclic mechanics of reproduction. However, it is true that most male animals don't exhibit a strong cyclic drive (if at all) concerning reproduction. Sperm are by far the weaker of the gametes, being smaller and short-lived. As such, they are produced almost continuously in male organisms from maturity until death. On the other hand, many male animals (particularly non-human mammals) do not remain continually fertile. Overall, I would guess that Sora and Yama most likely could produce a third egg, but the possibility of a "bad egg" issue cropping up due to genetic problems would probably higher than the norm.

Algernon's comment about Norman Osborn: One of the neat things about Dark Reign is that it gives Osborn the chance to expand his horizons beyond tormenting a twenty nine year old who still lives with his mom.

Sorry for the double but this is something I have been wanting to share. On my return trip from Vegas, where I had In N' Out again, My flight arrived late and I missed my connecting flight. I was stuck in a Colorado airport for 6 hours and couldn't leave because there was nowhere close to visit.

My brother is in the military and we were able to relax in the USO so that made the stay more bearable. Well while exploring the USO, I looked into a bin of toys and, at the very top, was a Broadway toy from Burger King. It is now perched next to my Brooklyn Applause toy.

Lurker - [JohnR783 at hotmail dot com]

Here's a query inspired by Madame M.

Who was your favorite gargoyle when you were first exposed to the show and why? A follow up would be, if your favorite gargoyle has changed since the first time you were introduced to the show, who has it changed to and why? It can be any gargoyle from any clan.

My favorite was and is Brooklyn. As a kid, I thought he looked and acted cool. And his gruff vocals were awesome. As an adult, I can empathize with his loneliness and feeling like he will never find a mate. Its not all bad though, I can also connect with his logical planning and tactical abilities. I think its cool how my favorite gargoyle is still revealing new facets of awesomeness, thanks to Greg of course.

I was very excited about the Timedancer arc and was very happy to see it become canon. At the last Gathering, that I was very fortunate to attend not just for the Gathering but or In N' Out, I won the auction of one of the Applause Brooklyn toys for $70. It is a purchase I do not regret and will probably compete for my adoration against the Tiki Goliath.

I wish I had the Brooklyn suction cup dangler again. I had one as a teenager and turned it into a keychain but ended up losing my keys. If anyone has one they are willing to part with, please let me know. I am willing to pay top dollar for it!

Paul> Yeah, basically, a graphic novel is a full bool length comic story that was never published in periodical format. It's not unlike the difference between TV episodes and a movie. You can release a bunch of TV episodes on a single DVD or even cut them together to form a "movie," but they're still going to play like they were written for a half-hour (or hour long) format because they were. You can have a collected book of single issue comics and it may tell a continuing story, but it's still going to read like a cllection of comics, each with their own arc, setup, climax, and cliffhangers, all roughly the same length. A graphic novel may have chapters, but the length of those chapters isn't dictated by the accepted length of a monthly comic. And it's all one story, with a beginning, middle, and end.
Demonskrye - [<---The Animated Oscars at The Ink and Pixel Club]

I probably need to brush up on my reading comprehension; Antiyonder already answered my question. Maybe "Clan Building" and "Bad Guys" would have been more profitable if they were marketed as graphic novels from the beginning. (As far as I'm concerned, they are, or should be.)
Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

I do like the idea of a graphic novel, although I'm still a bit ignorant as to the differences between a graphic novel and a comic book (unless it's akin to the difference between a novel and a short story).

I enjoy reading "Clan Building" and "Bad Guys", so I certainly wouldn't be averse to more material like that. Sadly, I'm inclined to believe that it isn't profitable.

Gathering> We could go around in circles for ages on end here, but it isn't going to change anything. No one is happy about the Gathering being gone, even those of us who never made the effort to go. I'm not complaining because i knew about the Gathering and just never made going a priority and that was my choice. But yes, there are always going to be people who would have enjoyed going and won't get the opportunity now. If all it took to keep the Gathering solvent was a handful of people who hadn't been before expressing interest in going to the next Gathering, there probably would be a Gathering every year for years to come. But it takes a lot more than that. Yes it was likely a very cool experience for those who went and yes it's sad that people who didn't get to go to a Gathering before for whatever reason won't get to go now. But it doesn't change the economic facts and it's not fair to keep asking the organizers of the con to pay out of their own pockets so that the fandom can still have a convention. Like I said, unless a new group of people step up to organize a new con that can avoid the problems that Gathering was running into, we're just not going to have a convention. Just saying "I want their to be a convention because the show is great and I want to talk to the people who made it" won't change anything.

Alright... I'm starting to get sold on the graphic novel idea...
Madame M

I tend to think that Gargoyles could do well in Graphic Novel format myself for several reasons:

1. It would do away with having to double dip to support the franchise (single issues and trades).

2. We'd get a complete story or two in a single purchase as opposed to a single story which required purchasing three issues every other month.

3. Graphic Novels don't generally have to make a monthly/bimonthly deadline.

Besides which, GNs are sold in bookstores as opposed to single issues which are sold in comic stores.

Wilman> In relation to some of your comments during the weekend, I've been meaning to suggest something. If you want to get other fandoms into Gargoyles, the best way to do so are to look for franchises which would be relevant to Gargoyles. Such as:

1. Star Trek: Not sure if it would help to sell the trades, but I imagine that some Trek fans would be interested in purchasing the DVD given some of the ST actors who did voice work for the show. The most notable would be Jonathan Frakes (William Riker and Thomas Riker) and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi).

2. Spider-Man: Greg Weisman was the supervising producer for Season 1 and 2 of "The Spectacular Spider-Man", and wrote the story for the upcoming "The Amazing Spider-Man #622".

3. W.I.T.C.H.: Greg was the supervising producer for the second season of the show (which many viewers see to be the best storywise).

4. Captain Atom: I don't have the specific issue numbers on hand, but Greg and Cary Bates both wrote for the majority of the Captain Atom comic that lasted from 1986 to 1991.

5. Given the show's use of Shakespeare characters and story scenarios (such as The Coldtrio relationship), I imagine you could convince fans of his characters into giving the series a go.

The best example of how to approach someone on the matter is if you know a person who is a fan of The Spectacular Spider-Man, you could say to them "The supervising producer of the show is Greg Weisman. If you want to see some of his other work, I would suggest Gargoyles." And then point them to the existing DVDs and Trade Paperbacks.

Wilman - You don't have to convince anyone around here that the Gatherings were special (and I only got to one). There will probably be a Gargoyles presence at many future cons, from simple fan interest, to panels, to even the occasional Greg appearance at Comic-Con, CONvergence, CopperCon, an SLG booth, etc. But the Gathering itself is over and it's unlikely a single con will ever again meet all the requirements you specified. You'll have to learn to live with that.

If you're really interested in the Gargoyles convention experience, find a local sci-fi/fantasy/speculative fiction convention and talk with folks there about Gargoyles. There might even be enough interest to get a fan-run panel on the schedule. There's no reason Gargoyles can't find a resurgence of interest through grassroots efforts at existing cons.

The Gathering was never as big as any of the Star Trek or Star Wars cons. Everything Demonskrye said about what was going on with attendance and the con's expenses is correct.

The Gathering's attendance peaked at the first L.A. con in 2001 and steadily dropped off from there. I don't believe the attendance ever topped 200 at any of the locations other than L.A. It was around 350 for the L.A. con in 2006 and just over 300 for the final one... again, both figures including all the guests.

Now some of you are probably thinking 300 is a lot of people, but if more than 50 of those are guests, 25 are the staff and their family members, and another 50 are just one-day walk-ins... well, do the math. For the Gathering, it just wasn't enough anymore to cover the costs of hosting a four-day event.

Paul> Huh... that's sounds like a great idea but you're right, I wonder if it would lose something without the pictures. Elf Quest was another comic that went to a few novels but I'm pretty sure those were never as successful as the comics were.
Madame M

Seeing as Gargoyles seems to attract a more... literature-oriented audience, for lack of a better term... I wonder if anyone has considered the possibility of doing Gargoyles as a series of novels or short stories?

Then again, I guess Gargoyles really depends on the visual elements that you get on TV and in comic books and don't get in novels...

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

Wilman, deserve it may but if the money isn't there, if the numbers aren't there, it won't happen. Going on about it makes Patrick and any others who were involved a little irritated I'm guessing because they put a lot of effort into the Gatherings in the past and I'm betting it was difficult to not have them. But simply wanting it to happen won't make it happen if the interest and the money and the time put into it isn't there.
Madame M

But the Gathering deserves to continue, look i'm just saying, this convention was big as any Star Wars, Star Trek, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Power Rangers, Or any other of Those Big Franchises Conventions, Even Phineas And Ferb, which are now going to start havng thier own conventions, i mean, Gargoyles is Disney's best series, and i think it even deserves more, i'd say it even deserves it's own weekend (Similar to the star wars weekend) but the point is that this was a place where you could meet the cast of Gargoyles the writers, the creators, i mean, Thom Adcox, And Keith David, they never came to any other convention, Marina Sirtis, Nichelle Nichols, sure you can see them in Star Trek Conventions, but people like Keith David and Thom Adcox and Cree Summer, unless you're in the business world you can never see them, the gathering is the only chance you have, so you guys see what i'm saying! Also what if you want to hear voices for the comics, only in the gathering you'll have the chance with the radio play or by having the actors read it to you themselves, otherwise you'll never have the chance to listen to it as if it was a real episode on television! you see the gathering is alot!
Wilman.
Wilman.

Thanx all, I feel a little better now. Though my creatures do somewhat have the familiar form of the Gargoyles we know (which I could still change in the process) they have traits Gargoyles don't, so I felt it was still alright from the beginning. But still a good idea to ask :)

Patrick>
I never had the honor of attending a gather, I honestly didn't realize they had them until I found this site. Although attendance has obviously dropped off, the fact that so many people seem to miss it can only be attributed to the hard work you and the others put into it. Working on something like that and not getting any kind of return for it aside from the pure pleasure isn't easy but when that pleasure starts to slip, it's just a chore, a task.

So though I never attended one, for the sake of all the ones you were involved with in the past that had a measure of success, Thank you Patrick...

Madame M

Gathering> There has been some talk of having some sort of Gargoyles related fan get-together or even some kind of new con. But I think the chances of something on the same scale as the Gathering happening again are pretty slim now and for the foreseeable future. As Greg and Patrick have both said, attendance kept declining. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression was that the decline in numbers was pretty steady for a number of years. So while the bad economy probably didn't help, there were probably bigger factors in the drop in attendees.

Some cons may be able to get by just breaking even, but the ideal is to take in more money than is spent to create a war chest that will make the next con bigger and better than the previous one. As I understand it, and again correct me if I am wrong, the Gathering was neither earning money nor breaking even. It was losing money on a yearly basis and the con organizers were paying the difference. Which is why Greg Weisman himself suggested that maybe it was time to bring the Gathering to an end. He was concerned about how much of their own money the con organizers were having to spend to cover the expenses that wren't covered by the money the Gathering took in.

It's not as if Patrick or anyone else is preventing a con that would otherwise happen from happening. The resources and the demand just aren't their to make this model work. Like I said, there has been talk of doing something smaller. The most likely possibilities seem to be more regional events with maybe one or two guests or a Gargoyles section of a larger con with a fitting overall theme. Nothing has completely materialized yet, but I'm sure it will be mentioned here if it is.

"Never" is a very long time, and anything is possible. Maybe some day down the road, when the economy is looking better, some new group of fans will show up with a plan for a new Gargoyles convention and some great new ideas for hw to make it work (other than the ones the Gathering staff already tried out) and the drive to see it through. But for now, that isn't happening. When you think about it, it's pretty amazing that the Gathering went on as long as it did continuing to focus on a property which had no new material for most of the thirteen years that the con ran. It had an impressive run, but it couldn't go on forever.

WARCRAFTER - While I don't know anything more about your work than what you mentioned in your post, I don't think (based on what you said in it) that you have anything to worry about. Disney didn't invent gargoyles or creatures that look gargoyle-ish; it only produced a specific interpretation of a "gargoyle" species. Since you mentioned that your "gargoyle-ish" creatures are evil, they clearly aren't much like the gargoyles of Disney (except maybe Demona, Thailog, and Coldsteel); the physical description that you gave for them is of a sort that's been frequently used in fantasy stories. So I don't think you'd have anything to fear about copying Disney's series, any more than if you were, say, writing about King Arthur and Merlin, Odin and the eye that he gave up for a drink from Mimir's well, or about characters and elements from Shakespeare's plays (as long as your take on those was distinct enough from the "Gargoyles" interpretation of them).
Todd Jensen

People, it comes down to attendance, plain and simple. If not enough people attend for the convention to cover expenses, it doesn't matter if the markets are bear or bull. The conventions that survive for decades are the ones that turn significant profits every year that can be carried forward to the next event, not the ones that barely manage to cover all their costs and consistently force the convention staff to go out of pocket on the next one.

Please don't beg and plead and complain at me personally as if I'm the one who stopped the Gatherings. The entire convention staff was burned out. Several of us had worked on the cons for several years in a row with no break from it. The planning for a convention must begin over a year in advance, so those who stay involved year after year are sometimes working on tasks for TWO conventions at one time. I think the only reason I did not go insane last summer was because my PAID job was kind(?) enough to cut my hours by 20%, which gave me a full day every week that I could devote to my UNPAID convention work.

I suppose it was inevitable. For the Gathering's entire existence, there were always those who said "maybe I'll go next time" or "maybe I'd go if it was closer." Now that the Gatherings are over, that's turned into, "maybe I'd go if it was still happening." It's regretful that some people didn't take the opportunity to come to any of the 13 "Gargoyles" conventions that took place from 1997 to 2009. I feel bad that there are fans who missed out. But it was unrealistic to assume that the conventions would continue without end. Nothing in life is forever.

Hey all, me again. I actually come with a possible problem I find I should ask here.

I stated a while ago here that I was writing a novel, but I never really talked about it much. What worries me is how it may have some similarities to Gargoyles with no purposeful intention of it. I've had this story idea since I was young and I discovered Gargoyles later on.

The most I can say about my story here (without giving out major plots) is that it does feature satient monsters with wings, tails, claws, the works. But we have seen things similar like that everywhere. My monsters are an evil race and my story has nothing to do with Gargoyles, which I repeat again, I didn't know the jift of until later on. I would state some more possible similarties, but I feel I can't here.

I felt like talking about this because I don't want to be a copyright S.O.B. if this seems like it. If you guys suggest I should do some changes to my 'monsters' so they don't seem gargoyle like, then please go ahead and please tell me. (Preferably by my e-mail so I could discuss a little more about this)

NOTE: I would prefer to 'communicate' with people I have seen on here for years and know what they are talking about when it comes to Gargoyles, Greg W., etc. Sorry.

WILMAN> <<at least one more time if not continuing! just one more big Gathering Of The Gargoyles! with All The Guests of last year and other years!>>

We already had that, it was last year's Gathering.

Look, it takes a lot of money to host a Gathering. A lot. Hotels are expensive. Renting equipment is expensive. Flying guests in and putting them up in hotel rooms is expensive. And that's only a few of the costs.

The attendance of the Gathering declined over the years. We were not getting enough attendees to cover those costs.

The money just isn't there. And before you say "have another one, people will come," well, how many people? Enough to cover all of the costs? Because we've had these things for thirteen years, and the numbers kept on going down.

Now, there are many possible reasons for this, but the big one, I'd imagine, is that we're still smack dab in the middle of the worst economic recession since the Great Depression.

The numbers just aren't there.

Well, I love Ophelia, and Boudicca, as well as the new one Staghart, i'm also a big fan of Robyn Canmore The Recent Hunter, and I love John Castaway I was excited when i read that Bad Guys issue when she tried to turn him from his mad course or at least for him to keep a low profile to avoid arrest and he dismissed her, and in Greg's plan he says thier families will be at odds, i'd like to repeat what someone said about book burning, where siblings turn each other away in the end they will fight. i also love the Quarrymen (i must admit they're better here than they were in the goliath chronicles) and i also love Macbeth, truly, whenever i see the shakespeare play, it's hard for me to see it without thinking of The real Macbeth and the Gargoyles version, anyone have the same problem?
Uggh can't there be another Gathering this year?

BISHANSKY - Ah, thanks. It's been such a long time since I saw the original pitch - probably too long. I should watch it again soon. (I vaguely remember a few things from it, including the scene with Goliath and Elisa on the subway, Goliath dressed up in a lot of ill-fitting clothes to conceal his gargoyle features. While it was amusing, I'm glad that the series never actually used it.)
Todd Jensen

Wilman> I think you're being a little thin skinned. Madame M just said that people are who they are and that no one here should try to ram their opinion down anyone else's throat because it just isn't going to do any good, yet you still feel slighted. If someone outright says they aren't trying to call you a name, I think you should take them at their word.

Gargoyles is still running on Disney XD. It's on at 4 AM, which I believe was the slot it had when the channel was ToonDisney, or at least something similar. Is there a chance that Disney will drop it? Sure. But I don't know that Phineas and Ferb or any other show will have a whole lot of influence on that decision. It's on at 4 AM to fill space at a time when not too many people are watching television, a time slot where Disney is probably not going to put any of their newer popular shows.

Right now, the biggest shot for Gargoyles having a future is the comic. Last we heard, Dan Vado of SLG was talking with Disney about a new deal for the license to do graphic novels. The better the paperbacks that are out already sell, the metter his argument is going to be and the more motivated he'll be to keep trying to work out a new deal. If you haven't bought the paperbacks, pick them up. If you have, then tell other people about the comics. The trick is not to just run around telling random people. What you want to do is tell people who you think would have some reason to be interested in Gargoyles, and preferably people who already know you and trust you. If they like fantasy, if they like Scottish history, if they like Star Trek or if they like anything else that somehow relates to Gargoyles, then tell them about it. You can do the same thing to talk up the DVD sets, thought it's going to take a lot more sales to have an effect there. You can write to Disney and tell them that you like the show, or that you would be interested in buying the second half of season two on DVD. You can pick up some of the other Gargoyles merchandise that comes out now and then.

Demonskrye - [<---The Animated Oscars at The Ink and Pixel Club]

And by not around for awhile I mean new shows. I know it's out there, just not anything new.
Madame M

But see Wilman, it's not that it's being replaced, Gargoyles hasn't been around for a awhile now. If it was replaced with something, it wasn't Phineas and Ferb since that is relatively new. All people are asking for is to talk about Gargoyles. Like... tell us what is your favorite character and why. I mean, you've been on here a lot and we don't know much about you other than what you don't like. So tell us Wilman, who is your favorite Gargoyle? And why do you like that one so much?
Madame M

Gargoyles is one of My Favorite Shows and i don't want it to ever go off the air, becuase guys trust me, Disney could put it off the Air on Disney XD, with the ratings of thier other shows including Phineas and Ferb, they could replace Gargoyles For Good! Do you really want that to happen?
Wilman.
Wilman.

i was talking about saving Gargoyles from being replaced by Phineas And Ferb, you saw how it took all of Gargoyles' spots on Disney XD, and now it'll have it's own convention while Gargoyles will not! AND IT'S LOWER THAN GARGOYLES, SO I"M TRYING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, what can i do, i want to help Gargoyles!
Wilman.
Wilman.

that's still sounds like an insult to me!
Wilman.
Wilman.

Gargoyleslady> Probably a little of both. Being around Broadway and Angela is very frustrating for him right now for exactly the reason you mention: it reminds him that Angela chose Broadway over him and he is still alone. He wants some time away from them. He tried to get it by volunteering to stay behind with Goliath while the rest of the clan went to London, but then Broadway and Angela decided to stay and help keep an eye on things while Goliath recovered. Now he probably feels like he can't get even a minute alone without Broadway or Angela or both of them showing up.

Just out of curiosity, do you find it easier or harder to follow what's going on in the comic than to tell what's happening in episodes of the show?

Wilman> I don't think anyone is asking you to leave, just to change the subject. You say you fight for what you believe in, but I'm honestly not sure who or what you're fighting. Personally, I don't care one way or the other about Phineas and Ferb. I mainly engaged in the conversation because I thought what you were planning to do was a bad idea, both for you personally and for accomplishing what you wanted to do. I can't speak for everyone, but I find that the people in here are generally kind and helpful. But not surprisingly, they prefer to talk with people who at least start out wanting to talk about Gargoyles. So far, you've devoted much more of your time here to talking about how much you hate Phineas and Ferb and this crossover fanfic you read (for reasons still nto clear to me. If you hate the show so much, why read a fanfic that's even partly about it?)

If you're willing to drop the whole Phineas and Ferb thing and engage in some conversation about Gargoyles, I think you'll find this to be a pretty welcoming place. But it's your call whether you want to stay or not.

TODD> Actually, it's on the season one DVD if you watch the original pitch.

BISHANSKY - Really? (I probably should have attended more Gatherings; I must have missed a lot of behind-the-scenes tidbits by not doing so.)

ALGERNON> << I wouldn't be surprised at all if it turned out she was an influence on Demona's original character design.>>

Her original character design was green with black hair.

Not calling you anything Wilman. Some people are who they are. That's it. Arguing with them, trying to hammer your point at them doesn't work because they believe what they believe. That works on both sides, that's not directed solely at you.
Madame M

I can't being what i am, what that supposed to mean? I'm A Fanatic Or Something? I thought you guys here are kind or helpful, not name calling or teasing others, i simply fight for what i believe in and if i'm bothering you, you could've just told me to leave, i'd prefer that then being called something or teased! SHEESH!

In The Gate, when Brooklyn said "Nothing, Killing moonlight" to Broadway and Angela. The expression on his face was clearly one of annoyance. He may have felt like he didn't need to see nor be reminded that Angela chose Broadway. He may also have been thinking something along the lines of "I wanted to get away and they follow me." Any thoughts on this?

Thanks for mentioning that Disney Adventures story, Demonskrye; I'd forgotten about it until some time in the middle of the day, after I commented on Patrick's original comment.

I remember that episode of "X-Men: Evolution" (I didn't click on the link, but I could guess which one from the context); I remember thinking that the scene at the end where Rogue smashed the petrified Mystique was even more unsettling than Demona's "City of Stone" massacre (and that's saying a lot).

Todd Jensen

DEMONSKRYE: It certainly possible that it was just coincidence, but there's also a scene later in this ep where you see a single tear rolling down stone Mystique's cheek. Not to mention the basic idea of mystique being turned to stone in the first place.

Plus we know Frank Paur worked on both Gargoyles and X-Men: Evolution so I doubt the X-crew where oblivious to the resemblance. You're right of course to point out that Mystique's been around alot longer then Demona. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it turned out she was an influence on Demona's original character design.

Algernon

Algernon> It's possible, though I checked on the writer of this episode and he doesn't have any direct connection to Gargoyles. Could be a nod to Demona, so it could just be a completely unrelated line that only reflects the Brotherhood's particular sense of humor.

Of course, Mystique was doing the whole blue skinned redhead thing before Demona was notes in Greg's notebook. And the resemblance is no more than passing, definitely not as close as Elisa and Ellen Yin, and even that I can buy as coincidental.

Hey guys, Lately I've been re-watching episodes of X-Men evolution on Youtube*, and I think I might have spotted a little in-joke regarding Mystique's resemblance to a certain other Blue-skinned, human-hating redhead. Skip to about 7:15...

Thank you Lurker, wow that's pretty interesting, all jokes aside. And that's right, the most recent Godzilla was reproducing asexually. And yah, I'm playing with the avatars.... :P
Madame M

Madame M> I know this is late but I just not have the time to post. In repsonse to Godzilla being male, I just always assumed he was. In the American remake Godzilla was a male too, he just reproduced asexually. As for it being canon, after a bit of research I found out that TOHO, the main company responsible for all Godzilla films officially declared him "male".

This got me thinking....

"Hunchback of Notre Dame" Gargoyle Audtions

Goliath: Quasimodo, humans fear what they do not understand. They have feared my kind for centuries. But someday, we shall move past appearances and all live...

Casting Director: Cut! Cut! Are you even reading the script? You're supposed to be about to spot on a mime!

Goliath: *sigh*

------

Brooklyn: I was thinking maybe this would go better if I had someone to read off of. Like the actresses tryng out for Laverne? All of them?

Casting Director: Next!

------

Demona: "Paris, the city of lovers, is burning..." Yes, burn you accursed human filth! Burn for what you have..."

Casting Director: Next!

-------

Casting Director: Well? What can you do?

Bronx: OWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

Casting Director (over Bron'x's howling): Next!

PATRICK - Good one. I'd almost forgotten that Disney take on gargoyles.

Todd > Another "Gargoyle" story that will never be written: In 1482, Demona attempts to form a new clan in Paris... but the only three gargoyles she can find have no legs and are always bursting into song.

GREGARIUS - Indeed I did. Thanks.

A "GARGOYLES" STORY THAT WILL NEVER BE WRITTEN, NO MATTER HOW MANY GRAPHIC NOVELS GREG WEISMAN AND SLAVE LABOR GRAPHICS WILL GET TO MAKE: A strange rift between worlds opens in New York, and a group of little gargoyles with names like Lassie and Ralph fall through it, little gargoyles who are more interested in partying than in protecting. Goliath and his clan have to protect *them* as they adjust to a New York different from the one that they knew in their home-world, and in particular, have to warn them that the antagonists in this world, such as Xanatos and Demona, are much more dangerous and competent than the little gargoyles' opponents, such as Xavier and Dakota, in their home-world.

wow this whole room needs to seriously take a chill pill. The only reason that guy kept going on about a show that didn't keep my attention longer than .5 seconds when I saw it is because you were all egging him on. Seriously, I used to enjoy coming in here, now it's just stressful.
