NS> Nothing I can do about that, sorry. The wiki needs to be upgraded, and unfortunately, only the owner of the server can do that.

On another note, we're finally at 999 entries!

One more and we're finally at 1,000!

You cannot be serious. Hmph, guess making a account was all for nothing. Can't get mail, can't even edit on there since everything is protected.

NinjaSheik> GargWiki uses quite old wiki software. I don't think it has an option to email you when pages on your watchlist are changed, although you can change your preferences to receive an email when your user talk page is edited. Your only option would seem to be visiting the site every so often to see if anything has changed.

I joined the Gargwiki like two weeks ago and add pages to my watchlist, but everytime something is edit, I don't mail in my account saying it was edit. What's up? I want to know what changes happened on the Gargwiki.

JURGAN - Good point. (Might explain why the henchmen of the kind of villains who engage in such punishments and executions are generally so inept.)
Todd Jensen

Todd: Not to mention it discourages risk-taking, which leads to timid subordinates who are too scared to try anything creative. Learning from mistakes is an important part of growth, and that can't happen if you never live past a mistake.
Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

BATTLE BEAST - I'm sorry to hear that.

ANTIYONDER - I remember once having the creativity demon that E--n P-x wasn't really the kindly, benevolent old man that he appeared to be - that his real agenda for stopping the civil war in Latvonia was so that he could unify it into a powerhouse that would wage war on and conquer its weaker neighbors, and that the Illuminati had seen through his facade and decided to assassinate him to stop him (as in "What if somebody had gotten rid of Hitler in 1932"). But I think that's too far-fetched.

The Illuminati do act like conventional cliched cartoon super-villains in "To Serve Mankind"; not only is their motive for going after P-x a piece of obvious moustache-twirling evil (even if it does fit the interpretation of the Illuminati in a lot of conspiracy theories), but also apparently, judging from their accosting Dr. Nexus after Goliath was freed from his rage, they go for the "kill the henchman who let them down" policy. While it's a popular activity of conventional super-villains, it has the drawback that if you keep on using it, you're soon going to run out of henchmen - and have trouble attracting new ones. (The only time Xanatos ever moved against one of his subordinates was in "Double Jeopardy" - and there the apparent crime wasn't failure, but deliberate betrayal.)

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but I could almost see Eg0n P@x existing in the canon as a therapist who distributes self help tapes.

BISHANSKY - Thanks for the new way of writing the name of "He Who Must Not Be Mentioned". I wonder if it might become more popular than, and even replace, the old "E--n P-x".

(The drawback of calling E--n P-x "He Who Must Not Be Mentioned", as I did above, is that people who are blissfully unaware of that episode might misinterpret that euphemism and think "The Illuminati wanted Goliath to assassinate Voldemort?" :) )

Todd Jensen

And, on another note, I added this to the GargWiki a few days ago.

It's my review of "To Serve Mankind." The infamous episode with Eg0n P@x.

http://gargoyles.dracandros.com/To_Serve_Mankind_%28review%29

Keep in mind, while reading this, that I was massively sleep deprived, drunk, and wrote this as I watched it between 4 and 6am. Not to mention that this is only my second time ever watching the episode.

Also, this is pure, unadulterated hate concentrated for your amusement. A friend of mind compared it to the Monarch raping that robot that had Dr. Venture's face on it.

LOL, with that in mind, watch this video, and pretend this is about me and how I feel about TGC:

The GargWiki has made it to 994 entries. I figured, given the significance of that number to "Gargoyles," it was worth mentioning.

By the way, the entry is Female Commando.

I'm liable to post if someone posts something that I disagree with. If it's something that I agree with, or something that I merely find interesting, I'm liable to think to myself, "Why yes, I agree", or "Hmm, that's interesting!", but not actually make the effort to post.

It's horrible, I know, but the best way to get me talking is to give me an opportunity to argue.

Rebel

Yes, I've noticed also that some of my posts have killed the room - generally, I suspect, because their topics were too scholarly and specialized and most of the other people in the room didn't know enough about the subject to think of a good response to them.
Todd Jensen

Wingless> I've been in the same spot and there have been times when I've found it frustrating, but there's really no sense in dwelling on it. It's not a personal slight and it's not about the color of your text or your screenname, or even that what you have to say isn't interesting. The room going dead quiet is a pretty common occurrence nowadays, and I can recall sometimes when it was Todd who made the last post before hours and hours of nothing. Personally, I've been posting less and lurking more because I don't feel like I have much to say on most of the topics being discussed, even when they are Gargoyles related. It doesn't mean I don't appreciate the interesting conversations that do go on in here; I just don't normally have anything to add and I'm not the type to post when all I have to say is "Neat" or "That's interesting."

Anthony Tini

Todd - so I guess maybe coming up with some of the other obscure series you've possibly discovered Michael Reaves has worked on wouldn't be a worth a discussion? Then again, talking about cheese is far more interesting. Good god!
I don't know how many times I've come in here and posted an idea or topic and then at the end said "so what are your thoughts" and not gotten one response. So this time I figure I have a tidbit that might stir a discussion - and wow, same response. Then again, I'm not Todd or Greg B. who's posts are always worthy of a response.

Phoenician - Mecha-Nation #1 isn't in the Diamond shipping list for this week so I don't think it was released. Even though news sites and resellers said April 28 was the release date, I don't know if it was an official date from Ape.

As another poster in Yellow, I have to say that I've never felt particularly ignored around here... though there are times my comments will get no response, presumably for the reasons Todd has said. Matt - [ewoks11 at hotmail dot com]

WINGLESS - I don't think that your post was followed by silence because you were considered irrelevant; I think it was followed by silence because nobody could think of anything to say about it (other than, presumably, "That's nice" or "That's interesting").

Well, if all else fails, there's always Demona's cup size.

Or, I could just share a short drabble I wrote a while back.

So, the question occasionally gets asked, what does Demona enjoy that humanity has created. Surely there must be something. This takes place sometime after "Rhapsody" but is definitely, definitely, definitely not canon to it. Or is it?

"Guilty Pleasures"

How long had she been imprisoned in this cell? Even she stopped keeping up. The nights turned into weeks; the weeks into months; the months into years. The only contact she ever received was Owen Burnett delivering her meals.

Angela had not come to see her. Not since her first night here. But Demona resigned herself to that. She knew the moment her daughter said the words "good-bye" that it was indeed final.

Demona sighed bitterly, she held no regrets. If she had it to do all over again, she wouldn't hesitate. The signing of the Gargoyle Minority Protection Act was a sham. She was able to follow the news close enough to see that. It was only a matter of time. If Angela didn't release her, the clan leader that followed her would, and she would lead them all on the path to survival, and then domination.

She was suddenly pulled from her daydream by the familiar sound of the heavy vault-like doors opening, followed by the familiar sound of Owen Burnett's footsteps as he approached her cell, carrying a covered tray. Tonight's meal.

Owen inserted the tray through a slot in the transparent aluminum that contained her. "I believe you will enjoy tonight's dessert," his lips cracked a slight smile betraying his true nature. "Tomorrow's dessert is pudding."

The gargoyle's eyes burned red as he turned and left her. Once the doors to the dungeons shut behind him, she grabbed the tray off the floor, and sat down upon the lounge sofa which, she guessed, was Alex Xanatos' idea of affording her some comfort.

Removing the lid, Demona snarled in disgust at the sight of the dessert. A slice of chocolate cake. At least once a month he did this, knowing full well that she detested the taste of chocolate. There was a joke there that she was not in on, there had to be.

However, she smiled at tonight's appetizer. Her all time favorite. Buffalo wings. She licked her lips as she prepared to enjoy her meal.

The End.

I haven't been so sad in quite awhile... I fear Gargoyles re-runs have finally been taken off of Disney XD. I feared this would happen. Luckily I've put a bunch on DVD now, hope to put what I got left on DVR on DVD. Already got season 2 first half on DVD, Gotta get season 1 soon. This show became a major part of my life when I re-discovered it 2007. It was because I just happened to stay up really late one night, and just happened to notice the episode "Reawakening" was on, so I decided to set it up on DVR.

Here's an interesting tidbit. Being a TV nostalgia nut, I just got the 1975 Filmation series "The Secrets Of Isis" on DVD. It's now out of print, but it's something I grew up with, so I wanted to have it. Checking out the commentaries -here's one from Michael Reaves!
He started working there in 1975. They had 2 live action series happening at the time Shazam! and The Secrets of Isis. Reaves ended up writing at least one script for both - but his very first script was for Isis. "Isis Meets Bigfoot". He explains in the commentary that when he pitched the idea - rather than just accepting the rough idea and hand it to someone that could clean it up in a hurry they brought Reaves in and had him complete the scrip for the show. That's how he got into the writers guild and got his start-with a low budget live action Filmation series. He went back the folliowing year, but they weren't doing the live action shows anymore, so they suggested he try writing for animation - which is when he wrote for "Space Sentinals" - and that sparked his interest for writing for animation.
Reaves goes on to say he worked as a freelancer for Filmation on shows like Tarzan, Blackstar, & He Man-among others.

@Jurgan: "Personally, I'd like to see a ceremony that mixes elements of gargoyle and human tradition."

I wonder if Demona's pledge to Goliath in "Vows" would count as this?

Of course, we all know how that relationship turned out, so I wouldn't be surprised if Goliath were to be averse to a similar pledge, even to Elisa.

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

JURGAN> Well, Greg did use the term "commitment ceremony" and not wedding, so we'll see. As for the issue of children, well, I tend to think Elisa is going to be a mother to Nashville, Tachi, Artus, Gwenyvere, etc. She is a part of the clan, human or not.

We'll see what happens with the child she raises with Goliath.

"Goliath and Elisa are never getting married. But they will have a commitment ceremony down the line. Gargoyles don't have weddings like humans do."

Last I checked, Elisa wasn't a gargoyle. Doesn't she get a say in what they do? What if Elisa wants a formal human wedding- wouldn't Goliath be willing to do that for her?

It's all well and good to remember that gargoyles are different than humans, but when we're talking about G/E, we need to remember that there are two cultures involved. Personally, I'd like to see a ceremony that mixes elements of gargoyle and human tradition. It's called syncretism- two cultures coming together to form something unique and new.

The same is true of children- the other gargoyles will raise their children communally, but Elisa may want to have a child that is "hers." Human children (at least in the United States) are raised first and foremost by their parents- it's the human way. We don't know Elisa's thoughts on the matter specifically, but I don't think she'll cede her entire heritage to live like a gargoyle.

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Heck, it took'em two seasons just to get as far as a first kiss.

Hudson's sword has turned to stone from time to time. As mentioned, it all depends on his mindset. And maybe down the road Yama's uniform will start to turn to stone. It would be an indication that he has accepted his membership in the Redemption Squad to be something he accepts and really wants.

I'm pretty sure it depends on how Hudson feels about the sword as stone sleep kicks in.

Harlan Phoenix

Chip: Thanks for the info. I never noticed that Yama's uniform changed. Also, good to know about the Humility spell. The bars do make sense now to, considering how often Sevarius has been working with mutates and clones.

I mean, it can't be just anything that a Gargoyle considers his own, otherwise I can imagine Elisa turning to stone if Goliath is kissing her when the sun rises. (once they are married) I know, I know, it's silly and doesn't make sense at all and would never happen, but I just can't get that image out of my mind. XD

I wonder if when he wakes up from this stone sleep that he'll only be wearing the sumo-looking piece he was wearing in the hotel. Even if he doesn't consider the clothes his, the weapons should have turned to stone, shouldn't they? They were his before he joined the Redemption Squad. Thoughts?

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

Sorry for the double Post, Daniel> Fang is probably not actively seeking redemption right now, but in time, who knows? That could change. Finally, yes Yama's clothes did not turn to stone. The Humility Spell affected ALL gargoyles, even Japanese ones. The Spell didn't change Yama's clothes because he does not consider his Redemption Squad Uniform to truly be his, or a part of him. Most likely because he has been forced into it.

"I've got friends on the other side"--Dr. Facilier

A few quick questions from the Bad Guys comic to start off the new week that's always bothered me...

Why didn't Yama just bend the bars and break out when Sevarius captured him? I think it's been established that gargoyles have the strength to bend those metal bars if they aren't coursing with electricity, and the ones in Sevarius' lab weren't - we see Yama holding onto them. Was he still to weak from the sedative?

Also, one thing that bothered me a tiny bit at the very end - I never really bought that Fang was also looking for redemption. He seems to be more of just going along for the ride. He might deep down want to change, but he sure has a hard way showing it.

Lastly, was it just me or did Yama's clothes not change to stone with him on the last page? Now that I look back, though, he did take his clothes and weapons off back at the hotel, so maybe he just doesn't consider them his, or the humility spell was never cast on the Japanese gargoyles?

But, if I do something you don't like, I think you have the right to kill me. Where will you find a fairer deal than that?

Even though this seems silly and stupid, I can't help myself....first.
