I think I may have started this off (or at least stoked the fire) by recommending the creation of a forum/board/comment room/chat/whatever specifically for the stuff on Formspring. I wasn't saying discussions of it shouldn't happen in here, just that having a concentrated location might make things more manageable for both the players and the followers. Like Greg B said, I'd love to have real meat to talk about in here, but beggars can't be choosers and all that.

There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

GREG> I'm kinda in favor too...not to step on anyone's toes, but the Formspring thing is REALLY fun, and since we don't have anything canon to talk about, it's the next best thing...just about everyone is doing an amazing job on it. Even if it is just glorified fanfic.

It seems that Formspring has returned.

Why is this even a debate? The Magus picked the sleep spell, he thought it looked good, and that's the one he went with. Maybe he thought the castle flying into the air under it's own power was less absurd than the skies burning... especially the skies burning in a world where the Children of Oberon exist and one might do it just for fun.

Antiyonder: But wouldn't the sky burning be just as absurd to the medieval mind as a castle rising above the clouds?

I think the Loch Ness Gargoyles could look like this one from Avalon:

(The first one on the page)
At least I picture them much like him for myself.

Personally, I'd be interested in seeing the New Olympian gragoyles. What makes them potentially interesting is that they're the clan most likely to be sympathetic to Demona's viewpoint.

Man, 2010 was a crazy year. Remember when the monolith turned Jupiter into a star? Good times.

Adam: I believe that Greg has stated that Boudicca will be taken to Manhattan to lay the egg she produced with Bronx, but I don't think that she'll be staying permanently beyond that, if for no other reason than that three Beasts as part of the main cast would probably get dull pretty quickly.

And visually speaking, I think that I'm most interested in seeing the Loch Ness Clan in action. Aquatic gargoyles are something that I've never really been able to realistically picture in my head, and I'm interested to see the eventual artist's take on the subject.

Sorry for the double post, but I thought of a new topic we can discuss. Of the 4 current clans that we have not yet seen: Pukhan, Xanadu(not counting Fu-Dog), Loch Ness, and New Olympian, which one are you most interested in seeing its members? and why?
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

I was brousing through the archives and thought of a question to ask Greg about Boudicca. Couldn't find it in her section so I thought I would ask it here first. This might have been asked before but. Does Boudicca permently join the Manhattan clan or does she she stay on Avalon? Thanks.
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

The counter spells were meant to be ridiculous and insane. If the stone sleep or whatever spell was written in 1994 or what have you, the back door would have probably been something along the lines of "And this spell will be cancelled the day an honest politician is elected president" or "when a character on a television show walks out of his television and starts talking to you." or something insane like that, stuff that we can't possibly imagine happening in our own lifetime.
Ice - [lce8472@yahoo.com]

Vinnie> I suppose he wanted it to be extremely difficult to reawaken the gargoyles. And if you look at it as a residence of 994 AD rather than as a fan of an animated show, the idea that the castle could be lifted above the clouds would seem absurd.

Three more "Greg Weisman" Formspring responses...

The Terrible Tinkerer: Met him once, he tried to buy the license to my Homunculi so he could make a cartoon about them.

Delilah: Is this someone I should know about?

Puck: Ah, now there's a storyteller who's been accurate about more things than that Shakespeare fellow ever was.

Did he think that burning the sky was easier (or more possible) than raising the castle above the clouds?> Before Hakon began burning the Grimorum pages there was also an easy counter spell. If he needed the Gargoyles again he could just wake them up. If it weren't for Hakon the Magus could have kept the castle defenders under more controlled circumstances. If not for Hakon the Magus would have still used the sleep spell. If not for Hakon.

Actually, I wasn't looking for a dollar number, more of a percentage. Like did it go up like 10 or 25 percent. And how does the licencing fee work. Are the charged an amount per comic or for a certian time the property is used. Like do they pay say $1,000 per comic or $10,000 for a year of use?

NEILL> <<If the licence fee was too high for SLG, it's too high for BOOM, too...

That is not what happened. SLG's situation and Boom's situation are entirely different. I also am quite sure Boom is a larger company than SLG. But what happened there is entirely different... Disney just flat out never responded to Boom. This wasn't a case of the fee being too high.

Funny how Mr. David introduces the gargoyles in the season 2 opening: "stone by day, warriors by night" I believe it's meant "visually" into stone. "organic substance that resembles stone by day, warriors by night" would be way too much, lol

ADAM> SLG wanted to renew, but sales weren't high enough to justify the raised license fee. Had the fee remained the same, we'd have gotten more comics.

RICHARD JACKSON> Except gargoyles don't turn to stone. They turn into an organic substance that resembles stone. So, what Thailog turned into at night during "City of Stone" was actual stone.

Rebel & Paul> I may have an answer as to why even during his research the Magus chose the "Sleep Spell" instead of the "Stone By Night Spell". The Stone by Night Spell affects all those who see and hear the incantation. All bystanders would have been affected.
Richard Jackson - [rickymtj@yahoo.com]

Richard Jackson > I guess you're right. In that case, I'm not sure. *shrug*
Rebel

I have a question to ask for why the Gargoyles comiics where canceled. I know that the licencing fee went up, but does anyone know how much it went up by? Also, where there any other factors that came into play like low sales. Thanks.
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

Rebel> In Awakening Part I, the Magus was shown paging through the Grimorum shortly after Goliath and Demona's appearance in the dining hall. I thought they were setting him up then as reading and researching the spell he would eventually curse them with. The Magus didn't know it would happen the next night, but his mistrust of the gargoyles probably made him think he would need it sometime down the road.
Richard Jackson - [rickymtj@yahoo.com]

Paul > It's been a while since I've seen the episode, but I doubt the Magus necessarily had time to comb through the Grimorum for a good spell to neutralize the Gargoyles. He probably just chose the first spell that he saw that would do the trick. If he had oodles of time, he might have chosen something different. But time was short and he had just lost (or so he thought) the woman he loved, so his head wasn't exactly in the right place.

Greg Bishansky> I actually tried to be careful when I wrote that by saying "beings". But I guess we've only seen the sleep spell affect gargoyles. And of course, Greg Weisman stated in the timeline that Thailog was affected by the stone by night spell.
Richard Jackson - [rickymtj@yahoo.com]

I wonder why the Magus chose the "sleep until the castle rises above the clouds" spell rather than the "stone at night until the sky burns" spell, given that both would have the same effect on a gargoyle. Did he think that burning the sky was easier (or more possible) than raising the castle above the clouds?

Rebel: While this is hardly a scientific way of guaging the popularities of the various strong female "Avatar" characters in the fandom, I decided, just for the Hell of it, to see how many of FanFiction.Net's 28,871 archived "Avatar: The Last Airbender" stories feature each of the women I mentioned beforehand as central characters, based on its search system. The results...

Katara: 10,811 stories
Toph: 3,033 stories
Azula: 1,958 stories
Mai: 1,105 stories
Ty Lee: 629 stories
Suki: 393 stories

For comparison, the numbers for the three most central male characters...

Zuko: 11,766 stories
Aang: 6,153 stories
Sokka: 2,997 stories

At very least, this data shows that the female characters have kept parity fairly well with the fic-writing portion of the series' audience - no other male characters, not even the impossible-to-dislike Iroh, break four digits. Take this data with a grain of salt (if even that), of course, but I think it underlines my initial point fairly well. Mike and Bryan have made a bold and laudible decision in the creation of Korra, and the evidence out there now suggests that the vast majority of the existing audience either agrees or, eventually, will grow to.

"She's a Honky Tonk Woman! Gimme, gimme, gimme them Honky Tonk blues..." Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones

Yeah, I guess you're all right. If the Grimorum has two different spells to turn living beings into stone, than it probably has two different illusionary spells. Thanks.
Richard Jackson - [rickymtj@yahoo.com]

Masterdramon > I hope you're right about that. Also I confess to knowing next to nothing about Avatar's fandom or how popular the each character is. I don't really follow the fandom; I just like the show. I appreciate the insight.
Rebel

Richard Jackson: I always got more of a sense that the spell used in "High Noon" was something of a blanket invisibility field, rather than the one the Magus uses to disguise one object as another in "Avalon, Part I." After all, if the spell used had merely caused people to perceive Macbeth's helicopter as a different object at the Clocktower, what object could they possibly have picked without arousing any sort of suspicion?

Rebel: Well, the roster of strong female characters was one of "Avatar: The Last Airbender"'s most-praised aspects in both fan and critical circles - Katara, Toph, Azula, Ty Lee, Mai, and Suki are all extremely popular characters to this day (barring the obligatory Fandumb, such as the rabid Zutarans who hate Mai with a burning passion, but they're in the decided minority across wider audiences).

Hell, Toph's quite possibly the most popular character in the entire series - Zuko's fanbase is the only one possibly larger than her's - and they sure as Hell appreciate her for her ability to kick ass and take names (while snarking all the way) more than any other trait. And plus, there are quite a few minor female characters in the show that have massive followings in the fandom for their strength and personality, including the bounty hunter June and Avatar Kyoshi (whom Mike and Bryan have specifically stated was a major inspiration for Korra).

So I guess my answer is that, while they will doubtless lose a few ridiculously petty fans over their decision to focus on a teenaged girl as their protagonist, the vast majority of their core audience has reacted very well to all of Korra's spiritual predecessors, and should be sticking around for the full ride. Nick seems to think so, at least; somewhat recently they bumped the initial order from a twelve-episode miniseries to a twenty-six-episode full season, without a single one even being completed as of that decision. That shows confidence that "The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra" should be pulling in some excellent numbers.

"She's a Honky Tonk Woman! Gimme, gimme, gimme them Honky Tonk blues..." Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones

Richard Jackson: I think we're looking at two different spells here. In High Noon, the spell Demona used made them appear invisible to the crowd. In Avalon: Part I, the spell concealed the eggs by making them look like broken pottery. They were both spells of illusion but they did two different things. It couldn't be the same spell.
D. Taina
"The story is told -- though who can say if it be true..." -Shari

Richard Jackson > Personally, I don't consider that an original idea. I consider it a fan putting 2 and 2 together. But I don't know how Todd would see it. Ultimately, Todd's is the only opinion that matters since he controls which questions make it through to Greg. If he doesn't comment and give his 2 cents, you might as well try asking it when the queue opens up and hope it gets through. If it gets rejected you could try making it more vague, like, "Was the spell the Magus used on the eggs ever used any other times in the series?" This wouldn't guarantee a useful answer, because there are a lot of episodes of Gargoyles and "High Noon" might not immediately come to Greg's mind while he is answering questions.

TMNT Pizzas > I've always thought that a popcorn pizza would be delicious. I'm also surprised that the hot fudge pizzas were so poorly received.

Goliath Chronicles in 2198 > I wouldn't mind it if Goliath Chronicles gets completely ignored in future Gargoyles stories but to be honest I would enjoy if it gets acknowledged here and there in amusing ways like those suggested here. Even subtle nods that aren't necessarily funny would be fine with me. For instance, the fact that the "smells of concrete and old leather" line showed up in the comics. I liked that. Obviously as long as they're not ever accepted as canon, I'm fine with it.

ATLA; Legend of Korra > I'm excited about the new Avatar miniseries coming out eventually, and I'm especially thrilled that we'll have a female Avatar as our protagonist (and even more thrilled that she looks like an extremely strong female character). However I'm somewhat concerned. Will the demographic that loved ATLA still love another story set in the Avatar universe with a female protagonist? I sure hope so. I want Legend of Korra to have awesome ratings.

Rebel

Did Demona use the same spell in "High Noon" to shield her and Macbeth from prying eyes at the clocktower and in the park was the same spell the Magus to used to disguise the eggs in "Avalon Part I"? Is the question too much of an original idea to ask Greg?

I've taken a liking to the idea that some residents of 2198 would simply have been uninformed on historical aspects. Such as thinking that the Gargoyle Minority Protection act was a result of train passengers being saved from the evil Quarrymen.

Plus there've been several injokes I thought up:
1. Such as the result of an election with Pat Doyle not making it as mayor.

2. Self help tapes by psychiatrist Egon Pax. Only, rather than succeeding in the intended function, those who listen to them are either driven to commit murder, or suicide.

Speaking of 2198, if that thing ever gets into production (though I wonder if anyone still has hope from Cheeks' designs being taken down), I rather hope it begins with the end of The Goliath Chronicles. Why, you ask? Simple...because that way, a Wild Mass Guess of TVTropes could be validated. I quote:

The Goliath Chronicles are a Show Within a Show
They are a cartoon produced sometime in the late 2000s-early 2100s as a (rather disastrous) attempt to make an Aesop driven show using famous individuals from the past.

The opening would just be the last minute or so of The Goliath Chronicles, ending with one of the 2198 Manhattan Clan turning off the TV stand-in and saying, "How could they have gotten things so wrong? Man, even today, Saturday morning cartoons are still terrible!" Cue intro theme.

Grr. Arg.

Antiyonder: Well, I think the reason that the Marvel/Disney Adventures comics would naturally leave less of a bad taste in one's mouth than "The Goliath Chronicles" is because those comics never pretend to be in any way canonical to the show. They're clearly alternate adventures with their own running continuity, whereas "The Goliath Chronicles" presented itself as the series' legitimate continuation, meaning that standards are - and should be - much higher for its quality. And of course, being part of the show's rerun schedule since 1998 or so makes them much, much harder to ignore than the comparatively obscure comics.

But in any event, "Gargoyles" doesn't really have any equivalent to the Nick Magazine "Avatar" comics, which were consistently excellent and, to my knowledge, all canonical with the show. I suppose, in terms of fan reception, the closest thing would be a trade publishing all the Gathering "extras" in print format to promote the re-launched comic and new series, but that seems rather unlikely.

Oh, and a couple more "Greg Weisman" responses from some...unique sources...

If someone chose to set up a place somewhere else for the Formspring followers to share their reactions, I would be very grateful. I know the comment room wasn't exactly lively before the Formspring conversations started taking place, but I'd rather read a handful of posts about things that I care about rather than a deluge of posts about things I don't care about. The solution to that is simple I suppose--"Just don't read them Rebel!"--but there's a bigger problem too...if someone DID actually want to discuss something interesting about Gargoyles, Young Justice, or Spec Spidey, their post could easily get overwhelmed and overlooked because of all the Formspring-related comments.

Someone had asked something about Fox's tattoo--whoever you are, if you are still reading, I don't think we have any canon information about that tattoo. I'm definitely hoping Greg gets to tell that story one day though.

Greg B.: LOL, I knew it was only a matter of time before the chauffeur thing made it onto Formspring. Fortunately, she at least doesn't appear to know where you live...yet.

But hey, if she and Norman happen to learn, we get to be supervillain-target buddies! Huzzah! XD

Also, this pair of question-and-answer has me grinning madly right now...

"What one thing are you exceptionally good at?

That's a question for my husband."

Seems that she rejected my response correcting her on her gender-inaccurate use of the word "confidant" and just changed it herself, though...still, fun. Much funz.

Oh, and a few more "Greg Weisman" responses...

Matt Bluestone: Greg Weisman? Nashville was talking about him just the other day…that and some show called "Young Justice." From what I hear, Weisman is one clever individual.

Emily Osborn: I do not watch cartoons.

Count Vladimir Ordog: Another mortal author who seeks to disseminate my secrets to the masses.

Still nothing from the Beasts, though. XD

Brainiac: I'm loving her already. Getting a very distinct "mafia wife" vibe from her, which was always the direction I figured Greg W. would have taken her had Season 3 gone into production.

But as interesting as this upcoming "private meeting" between Norman and Peter is, my focus is definitely on the Eddie Brock/Nick Fury/Falstaff storyline right now. Not sure what Duval apparently wants with the symbiote, but I'm definitely...intrigued.

Frankly, the Comment Room's been pretty darn stagnant for the past few months at least, lighting up pretty much only in the aftermath of each new "Young Justice" episode. In the choice between a lively discussion over what is, essentially, extremely high-quality fanfiction, and little-to-no discussion at all, I'll take the former anyday.

Greg B> I agree. Unfortunately, with nothing on Gargoyles in any form (not even the unrelated movie that was announced a ways back...we don't even know if it's stalled because Disney heard the fandom's grumbling) and Young Justice being on broadcast hiatus until next month, it's not like we've got much else (which is probably why a lot of people are kind of fixated on the Formspring stuff right now). I wonder if some sort of room/forum/chat/whatever should be set up to contain it all, both for the followers and for the players.

The formspring stuff is fun, but I also wish we had more meat to talk about than what's going on over there.

But, one thing did interest me there. I like the idea of Demona not going out of her way to kill Castaway because he is a useful idiot to her. An almost literal bogeyman she can use to try to scare other gargoyles into following her.

I also like her alliance with Coldsteel. It just makes so much sense. Coldsteel is a character that we have never really seen act on his own, and probably is at his best when he's allied with someone. Thailog makes sense for that too, but Demona probably more... they already know one another, worked together in "High Noon" without incident, and I can't see him caring either way if humanity lives or dies.

That, and I've always felt that eventually Demona would gain followers in some form.

Todd: Well, to clarify, Castaway doesn't appear to have any clue that Formspring's "Count Vladimir Ordog" is in fact a vampire; as of now, he has presented himself solely as a wealthy aristocrat with sympathetic views and ample resources. Whether the canon Castaway would necessarily have a problem with allying alongside other inhuman creatures against the gargoyles is definitely an interesting question, though; given that Greg W. envisions him as the human counterpart to Demona, whose positions on alliances are nothing if not contradictory, I would be inclined to think he would at least consider it, though I agree that he would try and much as possible to keep such relationships on the down-low.

Of course, we have no idea whether the Gargoyles Universe version of Count Dracula will ultimately turn out to be anything like his Formspring player, so for all we know Greg W.'s version might not even be a vampire at all - or at least, not one as is conceived in Stoker's novel.

Masterdramon - [kmc12009@mymail.pomona.edu]
"She's a Honky Tonk Woman! Gimme, gimme, gimme them Honky Tonk blues..." Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones

MASTERDRAMON - Would Castaway accept an alliance with Dracula, I wonder? He'd want all the help he could find against the gargoyles, certainly - but a guy that violently prejudiced against gargoyles might not be too keen on vampires, either. Of course, no vampires were involved in his shooting Jason, so maybe he wouldn't have as big a problem with them. (All the same, I think he'd keep the alliance a secret from the bulk of the Quarrymen; the ones who were just ordinary frightened citizens, like Sarah Brown, probably wouldn't feel too easy about working with a vampire - especially a vampire that notorious.)
Todd Jensen - [merlyn1@mindspring.com]

Anyone else really, really enjoying the Brentwood player? He's just so...endearing in his simplicity. I think my favorite is his response to the Weird Sisters divining the future via their classic incantation...

Patrick> The original Angela was OOC and very annoying. She didn't pay attention to the ongoing Formspring story arcs which slowed things down. She was asked several times to be more in character and ignored those requests. She was warned, and did nothing. It was not an easy choice, but clearly, it was the right one as the new Angela is by far more in character, and--in my opinion--far more enjoyable.

Damn, going for triple-post here...but thank the myriad Gods of all the myriad religions, we've got a new - and actually in-character - Angela player on Formspring, who's currently playing major catch-up to get up-to-speed with the ongoing plotlines. And accordingly, here's her very sweet response to the "Greg Weisman" query...

Montmarte: I have never heard of this monsieur Weisman.

Montparnasse: Hmmm...I am not certain...the name seems familiar...

Would you pass me that Case of Self-Indulgence please? I think that it would go perfectly in this soup...

Angelique: I do not know many humans...and the last one I met...a man named Edmund Tsabard...made me very uncomfortable...

Diabolique: He is a human.

Thomeheb: I prefer Edmund Tsabard...He just has that...Down home touch that reminds me of Gay Paree!

Phoenician: Elisa's response confirms that Captain Atom exists as a comic book in this Universe, so I think the Brigadoon gargs are the only DC characters (well, sorta) that are gonna show up here.

Of course, the "continuity" (and I use that term quite loosely) of this Formspring Universe is pretty darn muddled - for example, Yinepu's responses seem to indicate that the anime series "Dragon Ball Z," "Bleach," and "Yu-Gi-Oh!" all share continuity with the rest of the gang, but Brooklyn recently informed me that card games will not, in fact, be played on motorcycles in the future, meaning that the future world of "Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's" cannot be part of the timeline. But hey, Fridge Logic-ing this whole affair to death takes all the fun out of it, so I'll just laugh it off and go along for the ride. XD

Incidentally, anyone happen to notice in the midst of all this chaos - the tear in reality Loki used to enter this Universe is widening, Set and Loki are attempting to take full advantage of the emerging power, the Grail Questers and Demona have all gathered in Paris to witness/stop it as well, and Eddie Brock's been detained by Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. on his way to follow them - that Gobby's been dropping some rather heavy-handed hints that he knows Spidey's identity. The Cast of "Gargoyles"

Goliath: Who?

Elisa Maza: I loved his work on "Captain Atom."

Okay, I admit it, I love comic books.

Brooklyn: "Young Justice" kicks ass. I watch it with Gnash, Broadway, Lex, and Angela every week.

Katana: I do not know him.

Coldstone: Isn't he responsible for that show that Nashville, Brooklyn, Angela, and Lexington always watch?

Nashville: He's cool.

Lexington: I don't know how he put up with so many people asking him about my future mate....

David Xanatos: I would love to acquire him for my Pack Media division.

Owen Burnett: A very talented and creative individual. Mr. Xanatos has charged me with acquiring him for our Pack Media division. Unfortunately, he seems quite personally invested in his current project at Warner Bros. Animation.

Fox: He would have been a great addition to Packmedia Studios.

Alexander Fox Xanatos: 'pparently pop was trying to hire him away from Warner Bros. Don't blame him for not leaving, Young Justice is pretty kick-ass. Robin's my fav.

Demona: He is a human.

Thailog: I'm thinking of starting my own studio. I might just hire him.

Brentwood: greg wiseman smart

Peredur fab Ragnal: I like him.

Duval: I don't know him. Edmund Tsabard however, is part of our organization.

Shari: Greg Weisman is a storyteller.,. and a good one. I think we're very much alike. I'd love to meet him and trade stories. Maybe I'll get to meet him if my boss is serious about hiring him to develop a new show.

Falstaff: He's a truck driver, right?

Coyote 6.0: I do not know him.

John Castaway: I believe that I share a name with his younger brother.

The Tasmanian Tiger: I hear he sounds just like Osborn's lackey Donald Menken. That could come in handy at some point...

Coldsteel: Why should I care?

Macbeth: A fine bard and storyteller. My old friend, Will, would take to him instantly.

Terry Chung: I love "Young Justice". I hope we get to see more of Hawkgirl, I've always been fond of Hawkgirl.

Travis Marshall: I don't really watch television except for the news.

Zafiro: I do not know this Amigo.

Obsidiana: I refer you to my mate's answer.

Kai: I do not know him, but a dishonorable man by the name of Edmund Tsabard passed through Ishimura a few years back, asking about Paris...

Sora: I do not know him either, but as Kai said, Edmund Tsabard passed through Ishimura some time ago...the beast actually had the nerve to ask me to model for him. Yama decided to introduce the pig to his katana.

The man lives...but is forbidden to enter Ishimura again on pain of death.

Una: He is a human. Hopefully NOT a Quarryman.

Constance: Isn't he a writer?

Leo: Don't care right now...

Staghart: He's the bloody Joss Whedon of Animation, what more needs to be said?

Lunette: Gnash got me hooked on Young Justice when he was here.

Old Pog: I have no idea who that is, you young whipper-snapper.

King Arthur Pendragon: I have not met this man, but I have heard nothing but good things.

Sir Griff: I'm having an existential crisis here.

Merlin: Oh yes...I do believe in God. What was your question again?

Blanchefleur: I've heard all about this 'Edmund Tsbard' character he seems to dislike so much.

Nimue: Isn't he a truck driver...?

Morgana le Faye: I do not know this man.

Lord Oberon: A mortal man. Nothing more. Although I did meet him during the 1,001 years. I had a weakness for comics in the 80s and watched him put his own "Thumbprint" on Watchmen.

Not that he knew who I was.

Anubis: He will die.

Thoth: I like him, he does his research.

Coyote the Trickster: An excellent Trickster in his own right...

Set: Wasn't he the mortal who gave my bore of a stepson a guest star role in one of his tv shows, over my own magnificent self? What was he thinking? I've more natural charisma and screen presence in my snout then dog-breath has in his whole body.

Anansi: I love a good storyteller...

The Weird Sisters: We will consult the Scrying Cauldron...Double Double Toil and Trouble, Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble!

Ah yes, he is a human bard with great potential.

Lady of the Lake: A mortal bard, much in the vein of Malory or Shakespeare.

I liked W.I.T.C.H.

Nought: ....

Chiron: Greg Weisman....Greg Weisman...

Never heard of him...is he someone I should know?

Hunter: His sister has the same name I do.

Dingo: I love that guy!

Matrix: A database search indicates that he is an American Animation Writer. Is often confused for Edmund Tsabard who is wanted by Interpol, and as such Greg Weisman is often detained by airport security.

Yama: He's been to Ishimura once.

Fang: Never met him, but that Edmund Tsabard is a good pal O' mine.

Taurus: A human writer who is fond of the bastard murderer Theseus. I do not care for him.

Talos: Records indicate that he is a human writer of some note.

Sphinx: That sounds like a human name. Is that a human name?

Kiron: Who is that?

Proteus: I like all humans...they interest me...

The Stone of Destiny: His Destiny is an interesting one...

The Holy Grail: He is worthy to seek the Grail, should he accept the Quest.

The Phoenix: Tssseeeeeeeeeerrrr!!!!!

The Cast of "The Spectacular Spider-Man"

Spider-Man: Didn't he write that song "The Will To Love?" I love that song. Oh, and "Young Justice" kicks ass too.

Peter Parker: "W.I.T.C.H." was pretty awesome and "Young Justice" kicks ass!

Gwen Stacy: I loved "W.I.T.C.H." I even dressed up as Nerissa for Halloween about two years ago.

Mary Jane Watson: I would voice act in one of his animated series any time. I'm actually just a tad jealous of the talented lady voicing Black Canary in "Young Justice."

J. Jonah Jameson: I HATE TELEVISION! HOW DARE THAT MAN ROT THE MINDS OF OUR NATION'S YOUTH WITH THAT MINDLESS ANIMATED DRIVEL ON TELEVISION!

OUR CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE WATCHING THE ADVENTURES OF MASKED VIGILANTE'S! HE'S GLORIFYING THAT BEHAVIOR AND THE LAST THING WE NEED ARE OUR KIDS IMITATING SPIDER-MAN!

The Green Goblin: He writes the best villains in all of animation. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Norman Osborn: I don't think I've ever heard of him.

Dr. Octopus: An incompetant hack. Now Edmund Tsabard, there's a real writer!

Sandman: Who's that?

The Vulture: Didn't he tell me that I'm old once?

Venom: We loved the second season of W.I.T.C.H.

...

Yeah, we like W.I.T.C.H.! Anybody want to make something of it?

Sally Avril: Never heard of him! Is this some kinda geek thing?

Mysterio: He creates awesome animated experiences and doesn't afraid of anything.

Hammerhead: Never heard o' him.

Tombstone: I do not concern myself with second-rate writers.

Shocker: He works for Osborn doesn't he?

Electro: "Young Justice" rocks, just wish Red Arrow appeared more. He's cool!

Black Cat: I don't know him, but I have modeled for Edmund Tsabard.

Captain George Stacy: I rembember sitting down with Gwen to watch the latest episode of W.I.T.C.H. when she was younger. Things seemed a lot simpler back then.

The Rhino: Who cares? I just wanna crush that stupid Web-head!

Kraven the Hunter: He would not survive the Hunt...

Everyone Else

Marvel's Loki: I would have loved to see his take on me.

Maleficent: I like Walt Disney better.

Jareth the Goblin King: A decent storyteller not quite on par with the mortal Jim Henson.

The Doctor: Never met him personally but heard good things, if you think what he's done is impressive you wait until you see what he is going to do.

General Thunderbolt Ross: He's a fine writer but personally, I prefer that Peter David fella.

I also received a response from Don Karnage, but I've been unable to locate his account ever again.

Todd> That's what I've always assumed. I think that the Formspring Odin said something to that effect a while back too...

And it makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

I once read a book on Norse mythology ("Gods of the North" by Brian Branston, I believe) which commented on the bizarre death of the Fenris-wolf after he had swallowed Odin. Vidar, one of Odin's sons, placed one foot on Fenris' lower jaw, pulled hard on the upper jaw, and riiip - the end of the wolf. Branston suggested that in an earlier version of the story, before Ragnarok became a world-destroying cataclysm, Vidar's act might have released Odin alive from the Fenris-wolf, hence ripping the wolf apart rather than, say, slaying it with a sword. Perhaps the same thing happened in the Gargoyles Universe during its take on Ragnarok.

Algernon> I apologize in advance for the terrible, terrible inter-linguistic joke.

Considering this origin is encapsulated in a tale known as the Lay of Rig, I'm not surprised.

BRAINIAC> Well according to one myth, Heimdall pretty much fathered most of Scandinavian society all by himself...

I'd forgotten about that. The Aesir not being all Children is simple enough to explain; like I said, Odin got around with the mortal women (and I doubt he was the only one though I don't think the Norse gods interbred nearly as much as, say, the mythical Olympians). As to the Vanir, that could actually make the extinction element of Ragnarok come back into play. What if the Vanir were the last of the Lost Race? Thus, Ragnarok was actually the end for the original sentient race rather than the Aesir, humanity, and Midgard; that's quite a thought.

BRAINIAC: You know probably one of the most interesting comments Greg has made regarding the Norse gods in the Gargoyles Universe is his answer to question 5 of this post...

http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=9554

I'm intrigued by the unspoken implication that the Vanir and even some members of the Aesir were NOT of the Third Race. If they weren't Children of Oberon/Mab, then what were they exactly?

Precisely my point. If there's no scouring in fire of Midgard, what purpose, if any, would those two have? The simple solution would be to drop them, but I wouldn't put it past Greg to have some devious plans for them instead. Perhaps he'd turn them into halflings, much like with the New Olympians (and some of the originals as well, from what I understand). Odin did have quite a few dalliances with the mortal womenfolk, after all (and he had a much more tolerant wife than his Greek counterpart).

BRAINIAC> You know I didn't give much thought to Lif and Lifthrasir, mainly bacause they don't seem to serve much of a role if Ragnarok didn't eradicate most of humanity. Which it obviously didn't unless it happened way back in before recorded history.

Algernon> I rather wonder how the "Adam and Eve" of Ragnarok, Lif and Lifthrasir, would be represented in Weisman's Ragnarok (if indeed humans weer involved at all in his version - it all depends on if it's before or after Oberon came to power, I guess).

PHOENICIAN> Interestiing question, I suppose a good place to start hunting for clues might be the original mythology. According to Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda, a book which I highly recommend to any one with an interest in Norse mythology, the survivors of Ragnarok include a ressurected Baldr and his brother Hodr, two of Odin's other sons Vidar and Vali, Thor's sons Modi and Magni, plus the dragon Nidhogg.

Of course, Ragnarok in the Gargoyles Universe obviously didn't go down exactly as Snorri decribed it. Not only because Odin is still alive, but also because we probably would have noticed all existence being burned to ash by Surtr's flames.

So . . . even though its currently in theatres, I've yet to watch Thor. Nevertheless, my interest in the film was reflected in my recent searching through the AskGreg Archives. Specifically, I found this response from 1999:

http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=2962

I may not have been lurking back then, but I do know there used to be AskGreg competitions such as the ALONE Contest, the Clan Contest, the 2198 Contest, and the Arthurian Survivors Contest. That's partly why I found the comment kinda funny -- I can only imagine how confusing the AskGreg queue was when bogged down with submissions posting answers from multiple contests.

But I get the feeling that if Greg ever had a "Ragnarok Surivors Contest" there would have been a bunch of folks here in the CR with a well-versed knowledge in Norse mythology (twelve years later, there probably still is, hehe).

So, if this contest was happening what little facts we know about it could be found on the Raganorak's GargWiki page: http://gargwiki.net/Ragnarok

In short, the Gargoyles equivalent of the Ragnarok wouldn't necessarily be exactly what the legends describe word-for-word), Odin survived after being swallowed but not eaten, and Loki & Thor are likely dead.

Biggest problem I see right now is that there isn't a specific number of survivors in sight (like the Arthurian Survivors Contest had eight people -- humans & Children of Oberon (and a little inbetween) to start the mad-guessing. d:
