Just a note on library research. While the net has access to a lot of general knowledge, when doing in depth research on a specific subject, one cannot beat a well stocked library. I'm on the net every day, and do a lot of spot researching on it, but I've run up against blank walls several times on my search for information and have had to resort to a library for detailed knowledge of several subjects.

Just my own experience.

Amen to that, Patrick. Amen.

I use my library all the time. I cna't find HALF the stuff I want to on the net that I can get in my library.

I am researching my family's history from the time my great grandparents came to Canada from Poland. I found my sites that could give me names and places, but I found actual maps AT the library. Case in point: I found the name of a book that was a history of the area my grandparents settled. I got to READ the book at my library (they had a copy, luckily). Without my library, I would NEVER have got to see or read the book. PERIOD.

Not only that, the library charges $12.00 annually for membership. That's cheaper than going to blockbuster every week at $6 a rental.

(And hey- I didn't have to spend $40 on The Order of the Phoenix. ^_^ )

Nickerous - I'd like to leave a couple of comments about what to put together on one disc:

Both "Eye of the Beholder" and "Vows" do really need to put on the same disc. Likewise all 4 parts of "City of Stone" and "High Noon" need to be one the same disc. Oh yea, "I'll Meet by Moonlight" through "Gathering Part 2" would be best served on a single disc.

Unfortunately, my copy of the episodes has "Avalon" parts 1&2 on one tape and part 3 on another.

What I am saying is don't just count x number of stories and put stories on discs based strictly on what episode it is. Also, custom orders are nice: for example: putting all the stories following a single arc together.

The internet is a wonderful tool for starting your research, but you can't believe half of what you read on it at all, and you've always got to take the other half with a grain of salt. Relying only on the internet is a risky way to do serious research. Also, unless you're using only well-known encyclopedia or news based sites, it's almost impossible to cite your sources as is typically required in any scholastic research endeavor.

CKayote > Cliffs notes? Those were forbidden in high school when I attended. The teachers would confiscate them. We had to read the actual books. And at the library, I still remember using the card catalog, learning about the Dewey Decimal system, and using microfiche viewing machines. And I'm not that old. Computers have just come a long way very quickly. When I started junior high, you still had to search the card catalog by hand. By the time I graduated college, you could go online, view the comprehensive holdings of every library in the county, request the books you wanted, and pick them up at your local branch two days later.

BrooklynXT > Libraries and books are not ANCIENT history. They still exist and they are still used by A LOT of people who want to expand their horizons beyond what's available online. At the libary, you can find books on spelling, usage, and grammar. BTW, saying "philisophical philosphy" are the same as saying "small smallness." It's redundant. Just something I learned by reading a book.

DPH>I wrestled with that... I thought about making the multi parters as one ep, but then I thought they should be left as individual. That was a personal secision.

And as for "Temptation" well that was just carelessness on my part. It's now changed.

Howdy people.

Been lurking a while without anything to say. I do enjoy reading all of your posts tho.

Still converting Gargoyles to DVD. I've done 17 discs so far. I lost a couple of episodes and am just now getting them back. Still haven't decided how to approach the 3rd season. I just don't feel like going all out on those episodes. I do know that I want all 3 parts of Hunter's Moon on 1 dvd and in order to do that, the dvd prior to that one will only have 2 episodes on it. I plan on filling it with special features so I won't waste SO much space on the dvd. If I want the Goliath Chronicles in the same 3-episodes-per-disc format, then the last disc will HAVE to have 4 episodes. I'm not going to devote an entire dvd to one episode of that drivel (even if it IS Gargoyle drivel).

The labels are coming along nicely as well. I've compiled a file full of Gargoyle images from every episode I've converted (an astonishing 350+ images so far). Now, I'm working on Gargoyle quotes from select episodes. As I'm nearing the end of my Gargoyle dvd creation, I've begun to look for other series. I think Batman Beyond will be next although I've noticed that Warner Home Video is releasing 4 dvds of Beyond episodes. Season sets may not be far behind.

As far as Books versus Internet, I'll take books anyday. There's something about holding a hardbound book in your hands as apposed to sitting hunched over a computer screen. Besides, doesn't prolonged exposure to computer screens give you cancer or something? ^_^ (just kidding folks)

Later 'goyles

The 'Net is not the instant answer for everyone. It has heaps of information that is readily accessable, but there will always be a place for the written word.
Not everyhting can be found on the 'Net, not every child has a computer with internet access, not all *schools* have internet access.
Not everyone likes to stare at a computer screen for hours on end.

I love being on the internet, I'd suffer withdrawals if I was off it for more than a day or two, but I'd be even more lost if I had to give up my books.

There is room for both mediums to exist in this world. Don't put one down just because you condiser it 'old-fashioned'.

B-XT>> You entirely misread my post. I wasn't targeting you for anything, I was agreeing with you that I wanted to get off the topic of stupid questions and move on - I merely used your handle in my response for convenience, not for setting you up as a target out of all the dissent. Also I don't know how you inferred that I was referring to you as one of the people who were in my example sitting up at 8 a.m. waiting for the bus; I thought I was clear that it was meant to encompass those who asked unrelated/stupid questions.

Dying ways of academia>> Well even if there isn't a library nearby, surely people can take better advantage of the internet than looking for a website or forum to pass along their research obligations to others. I still prefer the library over the Internet for getting information, not because I think it more reliable - a book can be as full of worthless information as much as a website can be - but I think there's more satisfaction in finding the perfect book as opposed to the perfect website.

Mythology I'd like to see>> Hmm... well, I'm most familiar with Western lore and there's plenty of that in the show, and nothing strikes me much from the West that I'd like to see in the show (or could be easily incorporated). I guess, then, out of all the cultures out there I'd like to see a future episode focus on Hindu myths/legends. I know Greg has planned - or at least has swimming in his head - clans in China and Korea, and we've already seen Japan, so I'd like to see the Asian continent get rounded-out with something out of the Subcontinent. What specifically?... *shrugs*

B.B. > There my vote is in.

I guess shutting down the Q's would help Greg, but then the ppl that post thier qestions would add them in here, and be a major pain in the ass for everyone else. Nothing against you Greg.
We also can't let it crash, that would do more harm and just taking 10 yrs to delete all the moronic questions. Just for them to be re-posted in a matter of minutes. I guess there really is no way to enforce the fans to check the Arcs. before they add another repeated question. Even making them sign in before they can post a question, hmm.. that might hold some back. Maybe a kinda ask Jeevs type of question, ppl can type thier ? in and poof somehow (I don't how) it would narrow down thier keywords to find certain question, and hopfully thiers would be in there. If doing that has some kind of name, I'm stupid and don't know the name of it, but you get the jist.

Patrick> Some of us however, have no choice other than to rely on the internet for coursework. All my lectures are on the web along with links to online publications we're also supposed to read, and use the institute's internal email network to keep in contact with tutors. Other than that we have only 1 hour a week over the VC for each class.
And when it comes to libraries, well... if a book so much as has the word 'shetland' in it, you can pretty much guarantee the local library will have it. Other than that, you often have to wait months at a time for books to be brought in from other libraries south. Same goes for the college - for one of our essays this past semester, almost every book on the reading list was out of print, or incredibly hard to find. We eventually got one book photocopied in its entirety by our tutor (all nicely collated and filed in the space of an hour - the guy's a saint), and got another on loan from the college on Lewis to share between 4 of us!
So for me at least, the net is invaluable as a resource - but obviously this is no excuse for blocking up the AG queue in the vain hopes that someone else will do the work for you.
(And, for the record, the only time I ever get to sit around playing video games is when kids at work insist on trashing us at Tony Hawkes! I swear the only thing worse than being beaten by a 10yr old, is being absolutely hammered by a 6 yr old.)

CKayote> I've maybe said it before, but given the clan's background, I'd quite like to see more of the Scots & Norse myths coming into the series. I'm working on a Medieval Literature assignment at the minute, and am starting to find this more & more interesting as I go on. Who knows, maybe one of these days I'll actually get round to reading some of the sagas!

Alex: Here's a topic.
Gargoyles used alot of literature and mythology, most notable Shakespeare and King Arthur.
What author/myth/such would you like to see incorporated into the Gargoyles mythos?
Note: It can't be anything that would take an EXTREME stretch to fit in - no major scifi or high fantasy (Star Wars or the Lord of the Rings). Just 'stretching it' is okay.

I personally would like to see Jules Verne incorporated, its adventure, odd journeys, and psuedo-steampunk atmosphere would work well with the setting.

Patrick>> I agree - I always have to smile when I see a post like that and imagine the poor slob hovering nervously over his/her computer at 8 a.m., hoping Greg will answer before s/he has to run out to the bus and turn in their report (or take their test, etc.). I don't think I'll ever get tired of that (not to say I don't get amazingly annoyed with it).

Brooklyn XT>> I'd love to talk about something else other than stupid posts and whether or not AG will get a face lift in the near future. Topic suggestions?

Not quite done talking about AG...>> I don't think the problem is necessarily that something can't be done, I think the problem lies in who's going to do it. To ask a few people to revamp a system like AG on their own is not fair when the entire fandom benefits from the site. Before we can do anything we need to have volunteers - a group of people familiar with the code to make a new structure, a group of people able to keep up maintenance of the site, and seeing how many of the suggestions on the forum have some sort of system of moderators there needs to be a group of... moderators (again, one or two would work fine when the queue was light, but I can't imagine having only a few people in charge of this queue).

So I guess what I'm saying is that if you're going to complain about AG and demand something be done, you should also be willing to put in your name as somebody who would like to help out and not just sit back and whine (not a slant against anybody in particular, it's just a retooling of my views on civic duty). With the time it takes to write a complaint you could delete a number of unworthy posts.

Heh, so much for my "I'd love to talk about something else." Seriously, though, I would...

This is just me... but I get warm fuzzies every time I see someone frantically post a question to Ask Greg in hopes that Greg will do their schoolwork for them. I just picture that silly, lazy person sitting in class a week later with nothing to hand in. You see, back in my day, there was this thing called a LIBRARY, and it contained a whole bunch of these other things called BOOKS, and we were taught and encouraged early on to make use of them whenever we were assigned a paper to write. It seems students these days think all they have to do is run home to the internet and whatever they need will be delivered right to them. They send off a question and wait for someone else to look up the answer for them, then run off to play some more video games.

So maybe there's a small hope that the backlog at "Ask Greg" is actually helping some of these people realize that they can't plod their way through acadamia relying totally on the internet for their every research need. Hey, a guy can dream, right?

I'm hoping the next question in line gets a . . more interesting answer.

Only 10 more questions until a ramble gets processed. Then 7 questions after that and we get another ramble. Then 12 after that is another ramble. Then 2 after that is another ramble. Then 16 after that is another ramble. Then 2 after that is another ramble.

Alex Garg: I still can't believe it. Those have got to be the most pathetic posts at Ask Greg EVER, even worse than "what comes out of a gargoyle." Not only did he double-post, and not only was it not a question, it was actually an INSULT. I hope those posts get deleted and that that person is at least banned.

Maybe the answer to all our problems lies in changing the rules. Just make it a rule not to ask questions that have been asked before, because that question will get deleted, and make it a rule not to ask for job opportunities and whatnot. It won't stop them from asking the same questions, but I'll least they'll be able to get deleted. Just my two cents.

I believe in closing the queue for a while - until Ask Greg starts rambles again or a new system is put in place.

When the new system is put up, I really do want a floodgate control. When the queue size gets to a certain limit, new submissions automatically get shut off. I believe in a maximum backlog of 3 months of questions just so the follow-up questions have a chance to get answered whiel they're still fresh.

Worst. Question. Ever.>> The most pathetic out of all of them? Um... well, there's one in the line right now that made me laugh:

"[04.26.2002] Lacey & Marlissa writes...

Sorry I don't remember who it was but it was a girl that was infatuated wiht goliaths Char everything about him she was in love with. Poor girl it's only a cartoon. I'm going to have to hunt that post down now.

Sorry for being non-Gargoyles related...

The Disney Florida animation studio has been closed. Such pathetic reason for why the animators were being fired. You can read the article in toon zone or copy the link http://www.jimhillmedia.com/legacy/index.htm?../articles/01132004.1.htm~contentFrame from jim hill media.

The Florida division made Mulan, Lilo and Stich, and Brother Bear. Sources from toon zone and jim hill media.

Ok, I just counted 17 more questions until Ask Greg gets to Todd's ramble on "Double Jeopardy". Is that number correct? Maybe in a future Ask Greg system, we could have a set-up where it automatically keeps track of how long before a specific question gets answered, for example, every question gets a number, with the number #1 always being assigned to the very next question to be answered by Ask Greg.

DVD> Perhaps that'd be the best time to release it though - DVD sales are so much higher over the Christmas period. It'd give a better chance at selling enough to justify releasing the rest of the series later on.

YO, I think Battle Beast needs some help with his votes here, So people get with the game and Vote... It's no big deal just give him what he wants, 100 votes Now before it's too late. 100 = 100% Makes the vote process easier to do. So just do what he asks and be nice... VOTE PLEASE?!

Battle Beast>Ranting Naa... Not really *P*! You just need votes and your all frustrated and stuff because nobody is voting, but I don't know why?! What your doing is intresting and I hope you get 150 votes as long as i can see the results. So I hope I helped by me Ranting about it alittle too, ha ha! So good luck on your 100 votes man... Can't wait seeing the results, if they would ever vote and compleate it. When ever that will be?!

Darn *P* Why? <OK I'll STOP NOW!>

And that's all I will say for now, that is!

JJ> Soory to have overlooked that, it should be fixed now. :)

DPH> You can't elect the Prime Minister on only 20 votes. you need millions. In my case, 100+.

And as for credibility... I don't care about it. Greg W. asks the fans to post their top five and 500 posted replies. Was this poll be credible because it was asked by Greg W.? If 500 fans post on my poll, should it not be credible too? It's not official anyway. It could only be official if Greg W. voted or if he said, "Lets see what the fans like," and I think Greg likes to stay neutral. In fact, I really don't mind one way or the other if he votes or not. He doesn't have favourites anyway. The poll is supposed to be fun and that's it.

Any way, 100 people make it easier to do %. if 23 people vote for "The Green" then 23% of the people like that ep. That's all. and plus it's a realistic goal to shoot for. As well, if only 10 people vote, and 6 of them vote in favour of "Grief," how could I say that the whole fandom's favourite episode if "Grief"?

100+ people will give a more accurate sampling of what's afavoured and what's not. In fact, that what's happening exactly.

After I post the results, the room will have something to talk about, hopefully, as the result may surprise you.

I know I keep bugging people to vote, but when it hits 100 or more, I'm gonna stop.

(Sorry for ranting.)

That is all I will say.

Battle Beast - What's so special about having 100 people participate in your poll? Is there some statistical reason? Or do you believe that having 100 people participate somehow adds credibility to your poll?

One of my questions to Greg is coming up - it's in the next four, in fact. (In it, I asked Greg whether he thought that "Camelot 3000" could have had any influence on his plans for Arthur's return in "Gargoyles". In fact, after writing it, I found myself wondering whether "Camelot 3000" could have influenced "Cloud Fathers" a little. There's a scene in "Camelot 3000" where Mordred gets his hands on the Holy Grail and has it remade into a suit of armor for himself, and that does remind me of the part in "Cloud Fathers" where Xanatos similarly melts down the Cauldron of Life and has it remade into Coyote 4.0.)

It's hardly confirmation when there's a "supposed to be" in the sentence. I guess the only thing new is that he's confirming it won't be out before 4th quarter.

Belated announcement, but ... a few days ago, I posted the latest installment in my fanfic saga. This story, "Not Forgotten," is three shorter tales following some characters who'd been left behind or fallen through the cracks.

Anyway, clickie or go to http://www.eskimo.com/~vecna/new_stuff.html

Things have just been so crazy here since the end of December. I hate the snow; glad that was only for a few days. The in-laws are staying longer than expected because they bought a new RV up here and now have to deal with all the paperwork (they're great folks, but after two weeks it's getting a little stressy). My boss quit and they haven't found a replacement yet, so Harbor House is flying without a supervisor and the residents think that means they can get away with all sorts of stuff.

I am SO looking forward to the Gathering ... you've no idea! I've missed everyone!
