Indeed, awesome videos Siren! I really enjoyed your Bronx video and thought the soundtrack was a perfect choice. I don't have the best of quality video tapes either, so video quality doesn't matter to me. I thought they were well-produced.

*Sigh* Now if only I could get my lazy self to finish my two videos in progress.... ;-)

Siren> Nice work. The "Last Unicorn" one brought me to tears, but then that movie always does.

re: Gorlois> considering that Atlantis sunk long before Gorlois was born, I take it that the man was named after the species, rather than the other way around. Though for the word to have survived that long, other gargs must have continued to use it. Strange that they kept the name, when their species doesn't use names at all. I wonder if Arthur used to call them "gorlois", and had Elisa correct him when they were on Avalon.

The Gathering -- Is there any place to look at previous "BIDS" for holding the convention. I'm kind of curious what they look like. I'm kind of chewing on the idea of 2005, but I want to see what was offered in previous bids and such. I've worked conventions before, but never one where bids were made to have it.

Thanks BB! Some of the episodes aren't the best of quality, but just don't play them full screen and you get out of pixel hell. There will be more. I am currently making a couple right now. Most of them are about Demona. Several songs have just screamed Demona, but it will be in different point of views at least, lol.

Paul> Nimue and Morgana were exchanged at birth (hence the term "change-ling"). Morgana (a fay) was raised by Gorlois and his wife, while Nimue was raised by a Child of Oberon. Presumably, Nimue learned magic from her adoptive parent(s).

Btw, has anyone figured out yet what relation Gorlois had with gargoyles?

Galvatron, if I read Todd's post correctly, Nimue was human, so how can the magical items she makes be allowed on Avalon? Or is she part Fay?

Also, don't discount Merlin so quick, we don't know when exactly the iron knights were made.

Todd Jensen- Finally you see. :)

Paul Cousins-

"but since Morgan le Fay was human,"

She isn't human so the condition doesn't apply.

" wouldn't any magical items she created (like the iron knights) NOT be allowed on Avalon;"

No human magicks allowed on the island unless they're part of your being like the archmage however there isn't a law against stuff created by avalon's magicks such as the knights or the gate or the eye.

" 'All magics banned, save for Avalon's own'. I mean this is the reason why the Archmage had to eat the Grimorum to begin it onto Avalon within him. "

Yes we realize that however the Knights were powered by Avalon's own magic from the very beginning.

"Merlin might be the one who made the iron knights because he was half Fay and half human, and his magic would affect iron but still be part Fay magic and the items he creates would still be allowed on Avalon. "

Merlin was still stuck in the Crystal Cave somewhere so he can't be doing any manipulation duing the time after the battle of camlann. Only candidates were Nimue, Lady of the Lake and Morgan and two of them can't do magic with Iron so it's Nimue.

Greg hasn't said who made the iron knights yet, but I think that Nimue had something to do with it. She was one of the three women who took Arthur away to Avalon (the other two being Morgan le Fay and the Lady of the Lake) and unlike the other two, she was a human by birth, which means that she could magically affect iron, which none of the Third Race can do. Process of elimination, really.

Wow looks like I was right all along about the identities of the Three. Pity it only took two years for it to be proven. :)

Has Greg said anything regarding who made the iron knights yet?

Todd Jensen writes...
You mentioned once that the rookery riddle about Excalibur Griff recites in "Pendragon" was taught his clan by "the three". A few people have claimed that "the three" are Morgan le Fay, Nimue, and the Lady of the Lake; my own response was that we don't know as yet who "the three" are; that title isn't specific enough. What are your thoughts on this issue?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greg responds...

Well, I'm sure I was being intentionally vague. But in fact you just named the three I was talking about, and I guess I'm feeling generous, because I'm copping to it.

VASH - In my case, the biggest reason why I'd like to see Greg Weisman getting through the Gathering reports is that they're the longest questions in the queue and, once they're removed from it, the queue won't take as much time to load. Though, as you said, they also don't provoke much in the way of answers from him, which is, I think, something of a pity. I'd certainly like to see more answers that could provide new information (although I can understand why Greg doesn't do much with that, since he doesn't want to give away too much at this point and possibly spoil the surprises if "Gargoyles" ever starts getting made again).

Wow, this has been a slow month. Never before have I been stuck with only 2 articles to post. =P

DPH> Out of curiousity, why are you so interested in Greg getting through the Gathering journals? These tend to be the posts with the fewest comments from Greg, much like the rambles, he tends to just leave a word of thanks or mention being in agreement with what is said. Unless you're happy he's getting through them because they tend to be long, and getting them out of the queue will shorten it a bit. =P

Now that the T-shirt and anthology contests are out of the way, I wonder what other contests the con staff are planning? (other than the music video one, of course).

Hello!

Patrick: did you get my reply to your email? basically, it said that my father sent the form and postal money order to the canadian adress (I'm at work, and finishes after the post offices close, here)
I scanned the recipe of the money order and a xerox of the form.

Siren: a Gargoyle AMV with Rob Zombie song? SWEET! I can't wait to see it!
Wished I had the opportunity to make a video for the contest this year, but lack of time and the material to do so won't allow me (tried to use Windows Movie Maker, but I don't have enough RAM)
I had in mind a video featuring Fox, with the song "Path part 2" by Appocalyptica, and clips of Avalon part 3 and Pandragon on the song "Emerald Sword" by Rhapsody

To everyone, thank you for your condolences...

Funeral services for my grandmother - Norma J. Edwards - will be held this thursday at Bayshore Methodist Church at 1pm EST. She will be intered at Garden of Memories cemetery thereafter.

IT's been hectic so far... we've got the entire gathering of those family members that could attend in her house. Some have gone around to start sorting out her possessions - for those that they want to keep, and the rest to be donated to goodwill - and it's somewhat of a pain, since one family friend has been making comments that a lot of grandma's stuff is "junk"... <growl>

In any case, in the middle of all of this, I wrote a poem as a memorial for my grandmother. I'm hoping I can read it at the funeral in her honor. For anyone interested, you can read it here at my DA account:

The ones done and ready are
Super Beast by Rob Zombie...all about Bronx
Cold Machines by Alice Cooper...featuring Cold Trio, The Pack, and The Steel Clan.

I just finished SuperBeast which was a 3 day project and my hardest one yet. I want to get at least one more done by the end of the week. Once I got the page up, you all will be the first to know :)

MATT - According to the research that I did, Bodhe was a son of Kenneth III. (This raises the question of why Duncan didn't go after Bodhe; my personal suspicion is that Duncan realized that Bodhe was too much of a spineless coward to pose a threat to him and left him alone. Greg Weisman has hinted at "Ask Greg", however, that Gillecomgain had - some time before killing Findlaech in 1020 - done away with a son of Bodhe's and brother of Gruoch's known only as MacBodhe - presumably at Duncan's request.)

Todd Jensen, here is the twist though, from the first scene Duncan is shown to the scene where he holding the Hunter's mask in one hand and his bady son in the other, the Weird Sisters are there hiding as his servants for around a decade's time. Taking that into question, it now becomes a question as to how much influnce did the Weird Sisters give Duncan (whether he knew is or not) to single out Macbeth and his father for attack so that they could keep their promise to the Archmage and create a situation where Demona would become immortal.

On a side note, after watching Gargoyles, I could never really get into that show Charmed, those three always seemed like watered down versions of the Weird Sisters.

With "City of Stone" airing in the last couple of days on ABC Family (I didn't see it, but that's because I don't have cable), I thought that I'd use this as an opportune moment to bring up a thought that I'd recently had about Gruoch's role, especially in "City of Stone Part Two".

First, a little historical background. After Constantine seized the throne in 995 ("Avalon Part One"), he was defeated and slain two years later by Kenneth III, who was the son of Duff (Kenneth II and Prince Malcolm's older brother), who then became king. Eight years later, in 1005, Maol Chalvim (Kenneth II's son who got a small role in "Avalon Part One"), who had earlier worked with Kenneth III in defeating Constantine, turned on him, killed him, and usurped the throne.

Kenneth had had descendants by this point, however, and one of these was Gruoch, who was his granddaughter. This meant that Gruoch, technically, had a better claim to the Scottish throne than Maol Chalvim, by being the direct descendant of Kenneth III, whom Maol Chalvim had stolen the throne from, or Duncan (Maol Chalvim's grandson and intended heir), who was not an usurper himself, but had inherited the crown from someone who was an usurper (meaning that his own legal right to it was doubtful). In terms of practicality, she would not pose a direct threat to Duncan's keeping the throne, since the Scottish nobility of the 11th century would be very unlikely to want a woman on the throne (only a hundred years later, the English nobility refused to accept a woman, Henry I's daughter Matilda, as queen in her own right, leading to a civil war between Matilda and her cousin Stephen over who was to rule England). However, her husband might be able to use Gruoch's ancestry as a possible weapon against Maol Chalvim and Duncan, going to war with them and overthrowing them on behalf of his wife. And it's certainly a possibility that would have occurred to Duncan, at the least.

With this in mind, it now becomes all the clearer why Duncan was so set on Gruoch marrying Gillecomgain rather than Macbeth. He was naturally afraid that Macbeth (whom he had already perceived as a threat) could be even more dangerous once married to Kenneth III's granddaughter (knowing Duncan, I doubt that it would have ever occurred to him that Macbeth's desire to wed Gruoch was based on love rather than on politics). So naturally he'd want to marry her off to a trusted henchman like Gillecomgain.

And this also sheds new light on Duncan's eagerness to get rid of Gillecomgain after the rift began between them. Because now that Gillecomgain is at odds with Duncan, he has the opportunity of using his marriage with Gruoch, who has a superior claim to the Scottish throne over Duncan, to overthrow his former master and seize the crown for himself. Duncan has, in fact, placed a sword in Gillecomgain's hand which Gillecomgain can use against Duncan. Hence it becomes all the more urgent for him to get rid of Gillecomgain, which he accomplishes by sending Macbeth against him. (The one drawback to Duncan's solution is that, with Gillecomgain dead, Macbeth is free to marry Gruoch, so that Duncan winds up with the very situation that he'd wanted to avoid - and he's clearly not the least bit happy about it as he observes the wedding, either.)
