Chameleon may changer her spots, but she refuses to do plaid.

So feeling the pangs of the convention, yet unable to go-despite having registered. Oh well. Bought some photo albums today in order to finally sort through my stacks of gathering photos from past years. Will still have to splurge and get 2004's developed out of digital format.

Battle Beast-Auctioning Off your MASH's - Let me guess, you heard that Fox is putting out a box set in the fall with bonus features right? Don't you hate when they do that. They make you wait and buy all these bare bones packages, then make you shell out the big bucks for a box set if you want the bonus features. *Growls* Mind you, someone's getting a deal if they get yours for what you're selling them for. Hope you make a bit more than that.

By the by, I am auctioning off 10 season of M*A*S*H on DVD, if anyone is interested...

Spin-Offs in the Comic> As I recall, Greg W. had said that if the show had continued without any of the spin-offs, some of those stories would have been rolled into the main series. I imagine what we'd be seeing, and may be seeing in the comic, are the "tentpoles" of the spin-offs; the most major stories. What we'd likely miss out on are some of the more minor stories that don't connect well to the main "Gargoyles" characters and may flesh out the spin-off characters a little more. So we'll probably get the "City of Stone"s, but maybe not the "Lighthouse in the Sea of Time"s. "Dark Ages" is probably pretty much out, and I doubt we'd see too much of "New Olympians" either.

The good news is that it's a lot easier to get a spin-off a comic made than it is to get a TV shows greenlighted. If the comic does well, we could concievably get one of the spin-offs. Also, comics sometimes have shorter back up stories after the main stories, which could be another way to let us know what our favorite secondary characters are up to. ("Fun With Cagney", anyone?)

Demonskrye

("What are hardcore fans of Gargoyles called?")
Most Garg fans tend to be called, um, Garg fans. ( Or Obsessive. That works too. ; ) I don't think any other title has really stuck for us, except maybe for the members of miniclan sometimes being referred to as miniclanners.

Demonic Lover - we can't really forget about your posts when you keep making them. People have asked you several times to please keep it "on topic", or at least stop posting about subjects that do not belong here such as the more personal aspects of your personal life. As has been stated by several people already, that is what blogs are for - and this room has a rating on it that prohibits suggestive material being discussed. Please respect the rules of this room and the wishes of those who post (or just occasionally lurk) here.
And no, Greg does not accept fan-suggested ideas; he doesn't even read gargoyles fanfic so that he can be sure to avoid even seeing fan ideas.

Lynati

Makhasu> I see the comic as (eventually) having the Timedancer story in at least one issue, maybe more, if it's a multi-parter. Unfortunately, aside from possible occasional flashbacks that would serve the purpose of "Dark Ages", TD is the only spinoff that will appear in the comics. At least that's how I see it.

Of course if the comic sells well, (and by all accounts I think it will) there is the chance that Greg W. and Slave Labor will make the spinoffs further down the line.

KingCobra_582 - [KingCobra_582@hotmail.com]

Echoooo!

Boy, this comment room is deader than a Kentucky-Fried Gargoyle. As if everyone's lurking and hasn't got a clue what to talk about.

How about a new topic?

Do you think the new comics will incorporate the spinoffs? Not as part of the main storyline, but as side glimpses. For instance, when Robyn's seen, will she be part of the "Bad Guys" with Yama, etc...? Will Brooklyn disappear in one issue and return five minutes later with wife, kids, and Fu-Dog in tow?

Makhasu - [aknellthatsummonsthee@yahoo.com]

I think someone on here (not sure who) mentioned June 28th. At least according to Amazon.

Anyone who can't find a comic shop (and is going to G2006) should be able to buy some copies (I'm sure) at the con.

KingCobra_582 - [KingCobra_582@hotmail.com]

This comic can't come out soon enough.

Greg keeps dropping minor hints and getting me all anxious.

And the Room is dead, it'll be interesting to see what the Room is like with new material coming out.

Demonic Lover: It'd be easier to ignore your posts if you didn't make any.

And frankly, my dear, we don't necessarily need to know about who sends chills up your spine and why, or how you have become single. Nor do we need to know that you are willing to share personal pictures from your personal trip to anyone who asks. Which, might I add, is rather disturbing to think you actually offered such a thing to total strangers.

This comment room is for Gargoyles discussions (and other things related; some things not being quite related but generally fitting with the theme), and it is NOT a place for you to air your own personal life's happenings. That is for MySpace, LiveJournal and other such places.

If you want to discuss Gargoyles, then this is the place for you. However, if all you intend to do is blather on about crap that happens to you in your own personal life, then for God's sake - find somewhere else to spout off to. I personally don't think anybody here gives a crap.

Yeah, Demona does love power. But still, once they've served their purpose, the humans must die.

*Demona steps up to a podium, facing several dozen Goth punks* "Rejoice, my followers! I have some good news! Our plans have been proceeding perfectly. So perfectly, that I will no longer be needing your services! Good bye." *pulls out her laser cannon and starts cutting them down like ripened grain*

And if they are Goth people, she'll actually be doing them a favor. Them, and the world at large.

Reno: You want another slap on the tush? ( ;
And I was actually referring to your comment to Greg B. An assassination attempt on Castaway would be pretty fun.

Todd: That should be interesting. I wonder what it might entail. Has Greg made any mention if Robbins has any suspicions on what Hudson is?

Enemy of my enemy...>> How about some sort of "Gargoyle Liberation Front" that could pop up in a story about a gargoyle on "trial"?

JJ Gregarius

In the old Marvel Gargoyles comic Demona was worshiped by a human group called the Triad, I think. And she WAS using them to help her get a gargoyle egg hatched. That issue was easily my favorite of the comic books.
What is interesting about that issue is that Demona is being worshiped because she looks just like some creature this group idolizes. I always wondered if Demona really WAS this creature and if at some point in her long life she had encountered and inspired the founders of this belief.
Its not canon, so who cares, but I think its cool.

RENO - Actually, I think that you got me mixed up with Harvester; he was the one who was talking about Greenpeace, not me.

Todd Jensen
Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Matt: Trust me, I was being polite.

Todd: Ironically, Demona could develop a following from people like that. But I think that once she got over the disgust of being worshipped by humans, she'd find some way to use them, and then "reward" them once they'd done their job.

Reno: Hey, good point. Everyone knows the best way to stop a fire is with more fire. Well, it makes for a better story, anyway.

Greg B: Good point, which is why it COULD be an interesting topic. Some group blowing up a quarryman meeting, or the home of a known member. Which would be along the lines of 'the enemy of my enemy gives me bad PR.'
Todd: I'm not sure circling around oil tankers and fishing vessels counts as "defending." I mean, how many times has a whaling ship captain wanted to slice a Greenpeace ship in half and look the other way?

I'd have thought that a more appropriate form of embarrassing defenders for the gargoyles would be Satan-worshippers or gothpunks, people who'd consider gargoyles "cool" because they look demonic, and who'd be eagerly longing to see them rip people into shreds in a very gory fashion.

Demonskrye> Any release dates?

Stopped by the comic shop today and Comic Shop News, the comics newsletter that most stores give out free to their customers, had a small blurb on "Gargoyles" among the Comic Picks for the month of June. It wasn't anything too impressive. Largely it just mentioned that "Gargoyles" had been a TV show and now it's part of Slave Labor's Disney comics line. No mention of Greg's connection to the property or anything. But still, it's publicity, and it might alert a couple of comic fans who weren't aware that the comic was happening to its existance.
Demonskrye

Warcrafter: Technically the sky has several names, not just one. One for each layer.
Vinnie - [tpeano29@hotmail.com]
Remember the old Gargoyles comics!

RENO> PIT wasn't one of Greg's creations, so I wouldn't holdmy breath to see them in the new comic.

However, if I were to have a pro-gargoyle organization around, they wouldn't be like PIT. In a complex world like this one, where things aren't so clear cut, I'd have them be a lot more like extreme environmentalists... like Green Peace or something.

People who, honestly, the gargoyles would not want defending them.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Tenth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]
"I am The Decider!" - President George Walker Bush

I also was intrigued by the 'PIT' group, and felt that it would have been a pretty cool recurring element if, well, TGC hadn't augered in, both in delivery and complexity, of the gargoyles universe. Wonder if they'll play into the new comic. Speaking of which, several places are offering pre-order deals. Only about a month now before they come out yeah?

I thought the sky was called the big bluish-black thing? at least at night anyway..

Well, Gargers and Gargies doesn't scream "Gargfan" to me :p

speaking of names , at least the Quarrymen didn't choose to be the "Garfoils" bleh, how's that for cheesy names..

maybe they should've called the Goliath Chronicles.. the Gargoyles Obituary (or at least ABC's version of it).

Starlioness

Yeah Wingless, I guess when you hear it said, it's hard to tell if you're saying "We're Clan" or "We're with The Klan."

Though frankly, if I bleached my Quarryman hood white, I'd look even worse running around the lobby of a hotel :)

Way I see it, fandoms never agree on names...it's as though names get imposed either from outside or from simple "yeah, I guess I've heard this..."

Stormy

So does anybody know why Wyvernweb was down for a little while this morning?
Todd Jensen
Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Matt: I named the big one Bitey. ( ;

And speaking of PIT, I did like the idea of a group that was basically the yin to the Quarrymen's yang. The only problem was (as I think Todd might have pointed out at one time or another), their conception in the Goliath Chronicles was a little hard to swallow, since it seemed that no matter what good was accomplished at the end of each episode, it looked like the city went back to hating gargoyles at the beginning of the next one.

I think Babylon 5 fans have a name. I think they're called babylonians, but that's just me because I don't watch that show (im sure my dad does) Plus i think the sky doesn't really need a name but it does. I believe it's called.........the.sky? Im not sure. I don't look up at the sky because the last time i did, terrible things happened. It's like suddenly realizing you're not wearing pants!

The distinction is that "Trekkies" are fans of the original "Star Trek" series, while "Trekkers" prefer "The Next Generation". I've also heard that fans of "Deep Space Nine" are called "Niners" and fans of "Etnerprise" are called "a tiny minority".

I feel pretty sure the difference between a Trekker and a Trekkie, at least to observers, is a Trekker is a general fan, while a Trekkie is more hardcore. As for us Gargoyle fans, I think "garg-fans" is what I've seen a few times. "Gargons" sounds too much like Gorgons.

Actually, garg-fans is about the most common one to my knowledge...

Hmmmmm... well, I call myself a Demona-phile, but as for more general terms... I don't know. Gargons? Nah, that sounds more like a Japanese monster or a pungent cheese. I'm sure if I put enough thought and alcohol into this, I'll come up with something more obscene. ( ;

The concept of "sexual orientation" is a more modern one. Ancient peoples didn't really understand this idea of sexuality. People back then didn't have the same kind of notions about sexuality or marriage that we have now. People that we might call gay today would probably still get married with persons of the opposite sex despite their inclinations and it wouldn't mean quite the same thing as it would for us modern folks. This has been seen in many ancient cultures, such as in Greece or Japan, where men might engage in sexual acts with other men and still be married, and not much would be thought about it. But the idea of carrying on a relationship like a married heterosexual couple was not something that was actively pursued. Marriage was still seen as serving a very crucial aspect of society, and was less about love than it was about practical reasons.

I think the things Greg has said about Lex's attitude towards his own sexuality kinda shows this. He's said that Lex hasn't yet realized it, and explained that he went after Angela because it was "the thing to do." Lex probably had the mentality that as a male gargoyle, he's supposed to seek out female gargoyles as potential mates. I'm sure that living in today's world that it WOULD have some effect on how he views himself, though.

I think what Jurgen meant was that homosexuality as we see NOW may not have been viewed in the same light in other cultures. I recall watching something on either ancient Greece or Rome and their romantic and sexual practices. On the subject of homosexuality, the general impression was it was recognized as a preference, but not viewed as such a lifestyle choice (not going into the choice or not arument) that is today. Ie, it wasn't that much of big deal, unless a high ranking male official took on a "submissive" role (not going into that). As to whether or not they would choose to act on their inclination in the absence of recognition of what it was, I can't say.

I somewhat disagree with that, Jurgen. I think even if you raised in an environment where homosexuality was never seen or heard of one could still turn out to be gay, they just would probably be much less likely to openly show it.
I was raised in an environment where I knew no gay people (or at least not any that were open about it) and I turned out gay. In fact, I was the first gay person I knew. True, society talks about gay people, but most of what I heard about gay people growing up was generally pretty negative.

Dear Comment Room god(s) please don't let this homosexuality discussion turn into another massive Room argument. Thanks.

Oh, yeah, I forgot it was Monday. Christine, you were nine, since Battle Beast posted twice. I claim ten.

The concept of homosexuality is actually fairly new, even if the practice is old. People engaged in homosexual acts, but there weren't many people who claimed to be homosexuals. That is to say, they might occasionally perform the act, but they didn't think of themselves as preferring the same sex. All this is not to say that homosexuality is a creation of society, but in a society that can't conceive of people of the same sex living together romantically, anyone who might be predisposed to being gay would never really consider trying to fulfill such a lifestyle.

I was just reading ASK GREG and I found a question about Lex being Gay.

I was wondering, Is his Homosexuality a symptom of the times, or was it bred into him in 9--AD when he was born?

Were there Gay Gargoyles in 994 AD at castle Wyvern?

Does anyone know or care to speculate?
