Meg> Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely look into it!
Valerie - [vaddoniz at gmail dot com]

Ed> Great work! That's just what we needed. Very nice and comprehensive. My only niggling suggestion -- I would give Goliath and Elisa separate entries on the character intro. That plus your blurb for #7 makes it seem way heavier on the 'shipping than I think it really is. Other than that, I love it. :)

At last I was able to pick up my TPB today -- Greg, I finally know where it is! ;) It seems like a pretty decent comic shop, and I was pleased to see that the book had prime placement, several copies on a wall rack at eye level close to the front of the store. Very nice. I think I'll go have a sit-down and read it now...

"Really? That's crazy. At my store, I get a cardboard backer and a plastic sleeve with every single comic I buy, AND he knocks a little bit off the cover price. I'm glad I have this store around to buy from instead of some other store."

Ooh, seriously? I'm jealous. At my neighborhood store at home, sometimes he knocks a little off the cover price, but new issues don't get plastic sleeves. And at school, the only nearby comic store is a Newbury, which does neither, as it's a large chain....

Meg

"And, while it's not free shipping, midtown A) gives a slight discount off the cover price of the comic and B) includes with it a plastic sleeve and cardboard backer, which you generally don't get in stores."

Ed>Sweet! It's awesome to have something to link to finally.

Valerie>Might I suggest midtowncomics.com for ordering stuff online? It's the online site of an actual store, so comics are available for ordering from them the day they are released in stores. And the shipping is fast--I think I ordered stuff Wednesday and had it by Saturday or Monday. And, while it's not free shipping, midtown A) gives a slight discount off the cover price of the comic and B) includes with it a plastic sleeve and cardboard backer, which you generally don't get in stores. I just checked, and they have both #7 and Bad Guys #1 left in stock, and if you want BG#1 too I doubt shipping costs would go up if you buy two comics as opposed to one....

TPB>Finally got my copy of the trade today...nice to have everything collected and error-free! The smaller size is nice because it's a lot more portable, the pencilling quality doesn't change, and I love that they fiddled with the coloring in #1 and especially #2, as it definitely benefited from lightening. Too bad the new artwork was so large and dilated, but oh well. And Pini's intro was nice; I definitely think we should try to hit up ElfQuest fans.

Meg

Nice work Ed! That site is really quite comprehensive for someone who is just getting back into the fandom (or getting into it for the first time). What do you plan to use as a background? Might I suggest a sky scene, reminiscent of the background in the cover to #1? I think it could potentially look really classy (but it could also easily look really cheesy).
Rebel

Great site, Ed, and I too am glad to have a single resource to point people to.

And OH! How long does it usually take for the comics to hit Amazon? I want to buy #7 but benefit from the free shipping (poor grad student).

Hello everyone! I just wanted to pop in and say 'hi,' I've been a Gargoyles fan since it first came out and I'm back in the fandom full blast so I wanted to introduce myself, as I'm sure I'm going to be around for awhile. Clan Building Vol 1 is in the mail, I just got season 1, and I'm buying season 2, vol 1 as soon as I can find my debit card.

Related, I was wondering if anyone could point me to any high quality screenshots of Elisa from Eye of the Beholder? I'm looking to write a comparative personal essay on her, as she was a girlhood hero, and I'm desperate for a good shot her holding her gun (too bad she lost it so quickly in that ep) or of her with just the slip on from the rooftop scenes. Any advice? I've been to gargoyles.de among others, but no luck for the perfect shot.

Nice work, Ed. Straightforward, which is good.

Matt: What I meant by that comment was not that Lexington's fascination with technology was spurred by the 20th Century. He's always had that, in the same way that Goliath always had his approach towards his attitude about humans, which was better suited to this century. What I meant was that after 1000 years of technological advances, Lexington's got more to play with than he would in the century he came from.

Ed> Great job! Awesome. Nice to have a place to point people!

HofEyes> Well, even then, Greg has mentioned a never made scene from Awakening in which Lexington was examining a catapult. So, it is really technology which has changed, not Lex's fascination with it. Had he lived out his nights in the middle ages, I'm sure he'd have become as adept with the technology of the time as he is with the technology of today.

http://www.gargoylescomic.com/ is live!

It's still very early days though, and it's not by any means complete.

Outside the main page, there are no pictures yet (and I pinched those from the Gargoyles Wiki, hope nobody minds). If anyone is more talented at manipulating images for me (for the introduction pages particularly), any input is welcome.

I've already included bluewyvern's Listmania list and spoonvonstup's video, both of which are awesome. Give me a shout if there's anything else to put up.

Few things:

- A lot of the blurbs are new. With the DVDs, I couldn't find good, short ones. The SLG one seemed redundant from the site description at the top of the page. But are they clear? Compelling? Comprehensible even to people who know very little about the universe? Suggestions welcome.

- The Gargoyles #7 blurb is based more on #8, and some of the stuff is new. It's not a mistake. These blurbs are written with an audience of complete newbies in mind so I've removed obvious references to "Macbeth", "Fox" etc., and tried to emphasise other elements.

- The Gargoyles Intro isn't a terribly good representation of the original series. Almost nothing on Demona, on Oberon's Children, Puck, Dracon etc. I think it needs to be kept as short as possible if it's going to hold anyone's attention. That's why it's all the stuff you need to know for the comic. (And even then sketching over stuff that's hopefully fairly self-explanatory). I'm sure I'm missing stuff though, or could explain things more simply in places.

- Irritatingly, SLG don't list Clan-Building and Amazon.com don't list GARGOYLES #7 and BAD GUYS #1.

- I'd particularly like to bulk up the FAQ on getting hold of the comic. I know some people are using mail order services. Are people getting it from abroad? What do people need to know for this? Is it worth doing one of those print out forms ("Please set aside issues of SLG's Gargoyles starting with issue ___, and Gargoyles: Bad Guys, starting with issue __")? Hmm.

- A few sections listed on the links bar aren't linked yet. I'll try to get to those soon.

If you spot any glitches or mistakes please let me know.

Saying "they have a duty to reproduce" seems a little Nazi-esque to me. I believe Hitler said the same thing about the so called German Master Race.

Keep in mind that in the 10th century some gargoyle clans lived beside human communities, but that doesn't mean the same social standards applied to them. Just because being gay in the middle ages would've been very bad in human society doesn't mean gargoyles thought that way.
Matt - [St Louis, Missouri, USA]
"Let this mark the beginning of a Golden Age! Between all our clans, both Human and Gargoyle!!!" - Macbeth, "City of Stone"

Inferring that all gargoyles have a duty to reproduce as many times as possible is staring over the edge of a very slippery slope. If Goliath's "contribution" of one offspring can be deemed insufficient, and Lexington accused of not doing his part because he doesn't like girls, that comes very close to deciding that individual gargoyles have no rights at all to choose their own mates or make decisions about reproduction. And I'm sure those who would advocate breeding them like pandas or California condors could find scientists like Anton Sevarius who'd be willing to assist in the endeavor. After all, they're not humans, they're just another endangered species that needs human intervention to stave off extinction. Right?

Rebel: Your previous posts seemed to imply that people were arguing Lexington's sexuality. No one was doing that. The core of the argument was appearances. And again, some people generalize. They're entitled. Some people don't. They're also entitled. Frankly, everyone thinking the same thing is boring, and dangerous, since it produces things like the sheep from Orwell's "Animal Farm."

I do find it interesting that most of the clan seem more suited to this century than the one that they came from. As someone recently pointed out, Goliath's line of thinking in being so passive concerning the humans' treatment of his clan in the tenth century was not suited to that time, but rather better suited to the 20th (I still disagree with passiveness, though I also don't condone Demona's actions in trying to solve the problem, but that's another topic altogether).

In the same vein, had they stayed in the tenth century, I wonder if Lexington would ever have come out. Things still aren't perfect in this time, and there's still a lot of steps to take, but there are more people who are openly gay today than there were 1000 or even 100 years ago. I know it was tolerated in ancient Greece and Rome (in those societies, perhaps better than today), but that line of thinking didn't really exist in Western Europe in the Dark Ages.

Rebel> Lex is not attracted to humans. This is not a case of interpretation or not, this is a fact. Lex wasn't attracted to Fox, he was starstruck by Fox.

I doubt that will be an issue for him either. After all, it's clearly not an issue for Goliath and Elisa (granted, Goliath has already had one daughter so I guess you could say he's already "contributed", but he still has many fertile years left and there are evidently other female gargoyles out there in the world).

I think Greg W. said something about how gargoyles would feel that adding new members to the clan was important, but finding true love was more important.

Then again, who knows? Just as some humans are content to adopt children and not spread their genes, whereas some other humans have a strong urge to have biological children of their own and propagate their own genes, I'm sure gargoyles have differing opinions on this as well.

Rebel

I don't think Lex will ever have any issues with the no biological children issue. That may be something a lot of gay humans struggle with, but Lex is a gargoyle. Biological children doesn't make much sense to him, sure he knows what it means, but I doubt it is an issue for him. Lex and his mate will be rookery parents to the hatchlings the same as everyone else. Lexington will have children, whether his genes are in the younger generations is pointless. Few gargoyles care about such things.

Almost all of my gay guy friends have dated and several of them slept with women. So Lexington having the hots for Fox and the gargoyle girls is normal. Not to mention, I know some totally out of the closet, flaming guys, who say they would sleep with certain women. If the opportunity came up, not sure if they would for real or not. But even as a straight woman myself, there is a woman now and then, that yeah, maybe I'd sleep with her. Its natural. And as I said, Lexington may just not consciously feel gay tendencies at that time. He is also trying to go along with the crowd. Broadway got teased for his weight all the time, no doubt Lex would think they may tease him about liking males. He also may not want to disappoint anyone. Sure, they know there are more gargoyles than them now, but still, they are a rare race. When he does realize he is gay, he may fight with the issue that he will not add to the next generation. That he is stopping his own bloodline there. His biological parents are dead. And to be with a gay partner means not spreading his seed with a female and bringing more gargoyles into the world. Its something he'd have to deal with. What a lot of gays have to deal with, especially when they are only children. Its one of parents' hardest thing to deal with when their only son/daughter comes out of the closet. One of my friends, she says she would still love her son if he came to her and told her he was gay, but she would feel very disappointed that she would never have grandchildren. And no, he couldn't adopt, living in Florida, gays cannot adopt children. He'd have to go to Thailand or where ever Madonna and Angelina Jolie go to adopt kids. Its a lot to deal with for Lexington though. He may be even suppressing it, denying it. But according to Greg, he will eventually come out.

And no, I was NOT arguing with you. I was giving you my opinion on the statement. If and when I do argue with you, believe me, you will know. In your bones you will know when I am arguing with you.

And thanks Greg B.

Matt > See, that's just what I'm talking about. You see those instances on the show as an indicator of Lex being star-struck or being happy that other gargoyles are around, I see it as an indicator of attraction. Everyone interprets things differently. And there's nothing wrong with that. Different perceptions make the world an interesting place. (I do agree with you about Lex's personality changing).

Ultimately, my perception doesn't really matter all that much since I'm pretty sure Greg W. has his heart set on what Lexington's sexuality is. But then again, I don't think there is even a single one of us who is entirely pleased with every single little thing about the comic or the show--and that's okay too. We don't have to blindly like everything.

Rebel

HOE: I suppose that's true. But whether it's arguing/discussing/having a different opinion, it's still a little aggravating, because I was merely using Lex's sexuality as an example of how different people have different perceptions.
Rebel

Rebel> I had never thought much about Fox touching Lex's chin and his reaction to that in terms of his sexuality, but honestly when I think about it it seems he was more starstruck by being approached like that by his heroes than he was turned on by Fox. I doubt humans of either sex have much appeal to Lex sexually. As for the female "gargoyles" in the subway, I think Lex was just generally excited by the weirdness of it all. He probably was reacting not to the females themselves, but to their non-afraid approach of him and his brothers. Anyway, that is my take on it. And keep in mind that Lex isn't fully aware of his sexuality yet. Before I consciously realized I was gay I had a girlfriend and all that because that was what was expected of me. So Lex's apparent drive to be with Angela or whatever makes perfect sense to me. He was doing it cuz his brothers were. It was a competition and to not compete for Angela would be admitting defeat.
There is one thing I disagree with Siren on. She said that when Lex realizes his sexuality he'll still be Lexington and won't become some new person. I agree with her to a point, but I do believe Lex's experiences will change him as he grows older. By the time he has gone into business and found his mate and all that, he won't be the same gargoyle he was in 994. He'll have matured physically, emotionally and mentally. He'll be the sum of his life experiences. I'm still Matt, but I'm not the Matt I was in 1994, same thing with Lexington.

Rebel: I don't think Siren was arguing with you. Merely expressing an opinion. Because you expressed yours. You really can't stop someone from responding to you in a public forum, especially when you say something that implies that there has to be a stereotype for the appearance of homosexuals. Todd> Thanks. And I've heard/read a few complaints about "Merry Wives," with the impression Shakespeare sort of wrote it like some Hollywood writers write new films/series centered around a comedic secondary character and it just doesn't work. May explain why I don't recall seeing it listed in the ASF's seasons very much.

Moving to the discussion about designing non-human females, I think a large part of this is applying our ideas of what features make something male or female. For Gargoyles, there are a lot parallels between humans (including the mutates, which were human to begin with) and gargoyles. It fits within the rules. I just want to see if there are things with alien races some designs where what looks like males are actually female, and vice versa. This goes for other movies and series as well. That'd really make them different from humans.

Demonskyre: Try this link: http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c234/Incisivis/Ariana_by_cristi_smith_hayden.jpg Like I said, regardless of what I think of Ariana (not too highly), I think Hayden nailed it in the larger picture of her looking over her shoulder there, giving Ariana a feminie face and eye structure around her beak.

It seems like we're mostly on the same page when it comes to really feminizing members of a species whle making them look credible as such. But I don't find fanart of beaked female gargoyles to really look "off" in that way you describe.

"No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream" -- Shirley Jackson

Hey guys, do you remember when I said this:
"(Just FYI, I'm not looking for arguments about Lex's sexuality, I'm just using that as an example of how different people look at things differently and might not always agree.)"

There are plenty of things that make someone "seem gay" to me, or "seem straight". My brother is gay and I have a lot of gay friends, and a lot of them fit the stereotypes. But it's not even so much those things...it's the little things, like the excited look Lex got on his face when Fox (an attractive female, even if she's of a different species) came up to him and touched his face in "Thrill of the Hunt". It's the reaction he had to those female "gargoyles" paying attention to him down in the subway in "The Mirror", etc., etc.

Now, if you guys want to be stubborn asses and COMPLETELY ignore what I said about not wanting to have an argument about Lex's sexuality, then go right ahead. But in doing so, you're completely and totally missing the point that I was making about different people having different interpretations of a character.

I was perfectly polite in my initial request that I didn't want to get into an argument about it. Hopefully you guys will respect that this time.

Rebel

Incisivis> I said that I thought it was part of the reason we haven't seen many beaked females in the canon; I have no way of knowing for certain. And even though both the show and the comic feature somewhat stylized designs, jawline is definitely something that still shows up and is one of the less aobvious but still important indicators of gender. If you look at most of the male gargoyle designs, you'll see a very strong jaw with very hard angles, which we tend to think of as masculine. The females, conversely, tend to have more subtle, curved jawlines and chins. Heck, even Maggie - probably the least human looking "monster" character we've seen so far - has a less prominent jaw than the other mutates. Getting a jaw shape that looks feminine with a beak, especially a long one, is not easy. I've tried. I've seen other artists try and few of the results look right to me. I'm not saying it isn't doable, but it will take some though. It's not as simple as grafting Brooklyn's head onto Demona's body and adding a few retouches.

Designing female characters of other species is a fine line to walk. (The link you posted won't work for me, so I'm afraid I can't see the point you want to make.) Go too far in one direction and it's either not recognizably female or it's just a male design with lipstick, eyelashes, and breasts. Too far in the other direction and it's Cute Monster Girl syndrome, where the males are all very diverse in appearance, but all the females look very much like attractive human women. I've seen virtually the same complaints made when it comes to the writing for female characters. Either they're just "males in drag" with no concessions to their femininity, or they're "sexist" and too centered on being female. I understand that both cases are not an easy balance to make. It's part of the reason I'm excited about the hog-goyle. She avoids most of the CMG pitfalls, and yet she's still recognizably female and an appealing design. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her.

About Lex not seeming gay....So what denotes gayness exactly. What makes a character feel gay? I certainly don't see Lex waving a rainbow flag, raving about Wicked, going on about some guy's ass, and talking in a sing-song voice. I never understand that phrase, about anything, not just Lexington, "he doesn't seem gay". It breeds a stereotype. I have plenty of gay friends who don't fit the stereotype. My bosses for one. Gay men, have been together for over 25 years, longer than a lot of my straight friends. They aren't "flaming". A lot of customers think they are brothers. They do fit the stereotypical gayness I guess. But I guess a lot of them don't. Just like some straight people can be really loud and roudy and others can be shy and quiet, gays are no different. Some are more social and open and others aren't. First, Lexington may not even realize yet. Deep down he probably is feeling it, but he has yet to consciously feel it. But in the future, when Lexington does find a mate, I don't see his personality changing at all.

Don't knock on Death's door. Ring his doorbell and run, he hates that.

ASATIRA - Prince Hal appears in three of Shakespeare's plays, "Henry IV Part One", "Henry IV Part Two", and "Henry V". (In the last play, he's now King of England, rather than merely a prince.) In the first two plays, he's the eldest son of King Henry IV, but his father is dismayed by Hal, who's more interested in playing practical jokes in taverns than in carrying out his duties. (Henry becomes even more upset when he finds out that Hotspur, the son of the powerful Earl of Northumberland, who is apparently the same age as Hal in the first play, has just won a major victory over the Scots, even wishing out loud that it would turn out that Hal and Hotspur had been switched at birth.) Hal spends most of his time associating with Sir John Falstaff, a fat old knight and notorious ruffian, whose one redeeming feature is a zest for comedy (indeed, Falstaff is generally considered to be Shakespeare's great comic creation). Henry IV is convinced that his son will never amount to much, and fears what will become of England under him. To everyone's surprise, however, after Hal does succeed his father to the throne as Henry V, he turns out to be an effective king - winning fame for defeating the French at the Battle of Agincourt, in particular.

You might find Falstaff of interest as well (particularly since Greg Weisman once mentioned plans for a character in "Bad Guys" by that name). He appears in not only both of the Henry IV plays, but also in "The Merry Wives of Windsor", but you might not want to bother with that one; it's to the Henry IV plays what the Goliath Chronicles is to "Gargoyles" (except that Shakespeare wrote "The Merry Wives of Windsor", too). Falstaff is mentioned in "Henry V", too, but never appears in it; he dies off-stage near the beginning of the play.

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Demonskyre: I doubt that's the main reason beaked females aren't seen. :) The art's highly stylized anyway, so a lot of subtler features are lost to make it animateable, hence blending the face structure wouldn seem a small worry.

Though this is an excuse to bring up a pet peeve of mine, which is that a lot of artists don't really know how to create truly masculine and feminine versions of nonhuman races. Again, it's the lack of subtlety possible for certain designs, but usually it's just dropping lipstick and eyelashes onto a male, or making the female as much like a pretty human woman as possible, instead of taking the time to understand that gender differences don't mean eliminating certain features entirely.

But, whatever other issues I have with the character, the largest picture in this Ariana collage: http://mgc.gargoyles-fans.org/entries/1299/1.jpg actually gets what I'm trying to say.

Todd> I can't recall which play Prince Hal is from; care to fill me in so I can read/watch it?

Bishonen> Yeah, Brooklyn may not completely fit the term bishie, but trust me, a lot of fans will call almost any handsome character (or person IRL) a bishie if they think he's particularly hot. And, in a lot of ways that Lex and Broadway aren't, Brooklyn fits. Not a perfect fit, but enough that I have no problem with applying the term. Is emo or angsty better?

Asatira

TDiGUH> Sorry if it seems like I'm nitpicking, but are there any kinds of car accidents that aren't pointless? If it's one person purposefully killing another with his or her car, then it's no longer an accident. And if someone were to run into and knock over a telephone pole that was just about to gain sentience and unite all the word's telephone poles in a rebellion against humanity, I guess you might call that a fortuitous care accident, assuming you knew what would have happened otherwise. (That was the most ridiculous example I could come up with.) But by default, aren't all car accidents pointless?

More "Mass Effect"> If you happen to have an XBox 360 (or possibly even just an XBox, though I'm not sure if that would work), but don't own "Mass Effect" there are a couple of free voice actor interviews you can download. They feature Keith David, Marina Sirtis, Lance Henrikson, and Seth Green. They're short, and mainly intended to get you excited about the game, but it's a way to see some of the "Gargoyles" alums and other cool people doing there thing. And they're free. (Unless they're only free to people who own "Mass Effect", which would be weird given their promotional nature.) Additionally, there's another video of Seth Green messing around between takes.

"Bishonen"> As I understand the term, I don't think Brooklyn quite fits. As the Wikipedia article says, the term roughly translates to "beautiful boy", with the "bi" prefix usually being used to describe women, just as we'd be more likely to use "beautiful" to describe a woman than a man in English. So the term "bishonen" is generally applied to very pretty men with features that a more traditionally feminine, such as a softer jawline, long hair, a slender build, etc. Looking at Brooklyn, I just don't see much to mark him as feminine looking, especially for a gargoyle. He does have long hair, but that's very common among male gargoyles of his clan. He certainly not as bulky as Goliath, Hudson, or Broadway, but he's no more slender than Lex and he may well fill out more as he ages. Facially, I've never seen him as particularly feminine looking. In fact, I think part of the reason we haven't seen much in the way of beaked female designs is because it's so difficult to combine the beak with a soft, feminine jaw. Brooklyn has certainly had many favorable terms applied to him and not unfairly so. But I just don't think he fits into the "beautiful boy" mold.

I picked up the TPB today; nice work! I can't wait to put it on my bookshelf :) One of the guys that works at the comic book shop I go to likes Gargoyles but hasn't even read the comic, so I was telling him about it in hopes of getting him interested enough to buy it. Will have to chat with him again next week and see.

(Are there any pages from the Gargoyles coloring book posted online? I'd love to use them to practice coloring on my computer.)

Sorry I asked about the bishie. :)

ED - Thanks for the Shakespeare comments. I remember when and how I first thought of the Thailog/Edmund comparison. Greg Weisman had just mentioned at "Ask Greg" that Edmund from "King Lear" was his favorite character in Shakespeare, and naturally, I couldn't resist looking for an Edmund analogue in "Gargoyles". And once I did that, Thailog almost immediately leaped out at me....

Some of the other Shakespearean connections I've brought up are maybe more far-fetched. I've sometimes compared Demona to Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice", but the concept that both represent (a member of a persecuted minority group who decides to retaliate with a vengeance just as bad, if not worse, as the original persecution) is widespread. (Magneto in "X-Men" is another good example of it.) Nowadays, I focus on the ones where there's some indication in the text that Greg had it in mind (such as Dingo being named after Prince Hal).

Eh, I don't think Pini was totally off base; I just happen to disagree.

Lex, I don't believe sexuality is indicated in anything but who the character has romantic designs on. I liked that Lex didn't fit any of the stereotypes.

Matt - [St Louis, Missouri, USA]
"Let this mark the beginning of a Golden Age! Between all our clans, both Human and Gargoyle!!!" - Macbeth, "City of Stone"

I wouldn't call Brooklyn a bishie, but then again I still think it's absurd that Lexington is gay, since he seems perfectly straight to me.

My point? Everyone interprets characters a little differently. We all have our own perception, and we are all entitled to that. If Pini thinks of Brooklyn as a bishie, then that's fine. Who cares? It's HER opinion.

(Just FYI, I'm not looking for arguments about Lex's sexuality, I'm just using that as an example of how different people look at things differently and might not always agree.)

Rebel

Purplegoldfish: I said I disagreed with Pini, but I can *almost* see it. Brooklyn, is, uh, slim like a bishounen, and a young male like one, and has lots of fangirls like one, so that must be where the connection is made.

It's not about sexuality; most anime characters don't have a canonical sexuality, and androgynous doesn't equal homosexual at any rate. It's just the fandom and the slash/yaoi that makes most bishounen gay. Not that there aren't some in their respective canons, but most aren't anything.

Incisivis - [incisivis at hotmail dot com]

Okay, umm Brooklyn is most definitely not a "Bishie". He's not a "Pretty boy" with homosexual tendencies. Where the heck is she getting that from?
Purplegoldfish

I believe Greg mentioned the other pairing at the last Gathering. He wouldn't say when in the past or the future it occured or any details. But in all of Gargoyles history, he only knows of a human and gargoyle falling in love in two instances.

Second pairing: I don't know. It was mentioned in the gargwiki and so it's probably been seen in Ask Greg somewhere. I liked it; it was a refreshing take on the whole thing.

By the way, am I the only anime fan who hates the term "bishie"? :P

Emphasize the vast story, the character development and the highly detailed universe, mention Greg's timeline. Don't forget to tell them about Wendy's foreword to the tpd.
First stop would be the forum at elfquest.com (official page of the Pinis). Take a look in the forum, see if there have been discussions about Gargoyles (they have, at least, been mentioned from time to time).
Try to find a poster there who has shown interest in Gargoyles (so that there is more behind a topic made than advertisment by a completly new user), who then can make a topic in the general topics forum, or maybe even start an Elfquest/Gargoyles comparison thread.

I plan on doing a second version at some point, and you've definitely inspired and influenced how I'll handle it.

Because they're stupid, that's why, and jealous. They disrespected our proud Italian heritage and named us after a ballet costume." - Phil Leotardo

@bluewyvern- The main theme is "Apocalypse" by X-Ray Dog (noted in tiny print on the final credits card... he's the guy who does most trailer music you hear out there: Two Towers, King Kong, Narnia, some POTC). I don't actually know what the music was originally created for. I edited the track to make it about ten seconds shorter (took out 8 repetitive bars in the middle there) and added a generic/ominous WHOOOSH at the beginning to lead you into it a bit (used Magix music/audio editor free/demo version). The first few seconds also have the tale end of a section of music from Carl Johnson's Gargoyles season 1 Suite mixed in (part of a longer version of the trailer I can't complete at this time).

..to put it simply. ^_^

Spoonvonstup - [<-- Gargoyles Music Video Database]

Spoon> That's a wonderful trailer. I love how you reused old footage to suggest the new events in the comic -- it works perfectly. (What music did you use, btw?) I'm writing a blog post right now and embedding the video.

I didn't see anything else similar, so I also just created a Listmania list with all the comics and dvds available on Amazon (which unfortunately doesn't include #7 or Bad Guys, and several of them need images): http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/listmania/fullview/R31KADQ770TL88/ref=cm_lm_pthnk_view?ie=UTF8&lm%5Fbb=
I'm probably going to add brief descriptions to each of the issues of the comic. Suggestions for other revisions are welcome. (Also, if you would, vote up my list so it might get some exposure...)

Also, Todd> about human/gargoyle pairings -- it's something Greg said. Possibly in response to people bugging him about Lex getting a human mate. He said that they were extremely rare and there had only been one other in history.

I would add:

- To W.I.T.C.H. fans. Greg was in charge of the second season of the animated series. Plus Greg adds a little W.I.T.C.H. reference in Gargoyles Bad Guys #1.

Also considering Wendy's comment in the introduction "Animated in a mature, edgy style that anticipated the current anime explosion".

Thus it's sure to interest anime/manga fans, plus Greg helped to translate the anime 3X3 Eyes.

Todd: I enjoyed the comic you linked. And yeah, it seems like Gunnerkrigg Court fans might be interested in the comic if you explained what Gargoyles was about.

DPH: The not spamming is important and we probably need a section on our site to explain that. I also agree about the timing of the ad.

Mochi: That's a great idea, but my problem is, I don't know where the Shakespeare boards would be. I'm sure they exist though. Perhaps a more appropriate way of approaching these would be an examination of the Shakespearean influences in 'Gargoyles'. Which would be pretty interesting in its own right, in fact. Todd's made some pretty cool comments from time to time (the Thailog/Edmund comparison springs to mind) but I don't know if something coherent exists.

Spoonvonstup: What do you mean, the right website? I've submitted www.gargoylescomic.com for registration. Should be there within 48 hours. I don't know how soon I'll be able to put anything substantiative up, but hopefully I'll be able to give it a good go this Sunday.

Hi guys. It's been a looooong time since I've posted in here. I fell behind the comics, and didn't want to read spoilers, then I got very busy with school.

I guess I managed to buy one of the only TPBs with errors in it. In Chapter six of mine, pages 3 - 14 repeat themselves. It's really odd. It goes pages 1-14, 3-24. I'm okay with it because it has the whole story in it, but it really threw me the first time I was reading through it. I think I'm going to see if I can find one that isn't messed up, and buy a copy.

I can't figure out whether or not I think it's a good idea to donate a copy to my local library. If there's a copy of it at the library, will people be more inclined to purchase their own copies of it or will they just want to read the free copy at the library...

Also, I can't for the life of me find a copy of issue #7, I didn't even know it was out. I guess I'll have to order it online. I still don't have issue 5... I'll have to get that too... When does G:BG #2 come out?

Sigh.

PS- I thought Wendy Pini's intro was great. :) But I had no idea what a "Bishie" was for quite some time. I'm not much into the whole Japanime thing.

Samuel - [AnglOfHellO at AOL dot com]
Noodles anyone?

Here's some interesting observations:

Prior to issue #7, the word "stone" has not appeared in gargoyle comics.

In the comics released in 2006 (aka #1 & #2), the word "night" was used 4 times, "hammer" was used 4 times, "trust" was used 2 times, "alone" was used 5 times, and "detective" was used 3 times. Any other words to add to that list?

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Matt: Your customs sound fabulous; please post some pictures!
David: Yours look great. Much better than Kenner's figures, which for the most part are pretty bad.

Thailog and Shari: "Thailog is Goliath" isn't that much of a reason as to why there'd be something going on. If anything, Thailog is proof that clones don't follow their predecessors exactly.

I know the meme in fantasy fiction is that it's easy for a male nonhuman and a female human to fall in love, but Gargoyles is much more realistic about it, in my opinion, because there's only been one couple in history besides Goliath and Elisa. I doubt if a third (Shari and Thailog) would spring up so close to that.

Paperback: I've got mine. Overall it's a nice presentation; the images don't suffer from the compression, though the expanded images for chapter headings are kind of ugly. I loved Pini's intro: it was suitably geeky, though I wouldn't call Brooklyn a "bishie". Sure, he's slim and adored by fangirls everywhere, but that doesn't exactly add up to "beautiful boy".

Along with the website, need to put reminders about what not to do: spamming a board = bad idea; joining a board, participating in a discussion about the topic, and using signature to advertise = good idea.

I don't think trying to help with the licensing fee costs will make a dent, and I'd rather see the money go directly to increasing demand for the comics. Better advertising at the right times will also work. Obviously, we won't know for certain until 3 days in advance of a new comic, but running ads just as a new comic is released will help sales. Do we really want to advertise when it's been a while since the last new material was released? No. The best time to advertise is when the new material comes out.

@ All- On the two different trailers: that is exactly what I was thinking of doing. I'm glad there are no glaring mistakes.

Spoonvonstup - [<-- Gargoyles Music Video Database]

ED - Good suggestions. For "Elfquest" fans, I would suggest mentioning Wendy Pini's introduction in the trade paperback. (I don't know enough about "Elfquest" myself to know what else to say - though I know that it also drew on traditional mythical beings: elves and trolls, in this case.)

One of my favorite webcomics, "Gunnerkrigg Court", had a scene recently - much discussed among its readers at the forum - where the protagonist's mother whispers something to her, something that has not yet been revealed to the readers. At the forum, I compared it to Titania's whisper to Fox (and also to Odin whispering a secret in the ear of Balder, after Balder's death, in Norse mythology) and the response of "Gargoyles" fans to that (as well as Greg's response to it). I didn't say anything more than that, but I hope that it might lead to one or two mentions of "Gargoyles" from other readers, that I can use as a pretext to mention the comic and the trade paperback to them.

(Incidentally, "Gunnerkrigg Court" has also included appearances from both the Minotaur and Coyote the Trickster, both of whom should be familiar to "Gargoyles" fans - and also took a "The Minotaur was maligned" attitude, though in a different, more humorous manner than that in "The New Olympians". If you want to know what that was, please click my name.)

I'm so sorry I can't contribute with paying for advertising right now, as I'm having severe money problems and still trying to get a job. "Let this mark the beginning of a Golden Age! Between all our clans, both Human and Gargoyle!!!" - Macbeth, "City of Stone"

I think the ad idea is a good one and I'll support it, but it definitely needs to be the right sites -- and the right message. Obviously Clan-Building 1 is our biggest asset, but I do wonder about trying to plug #10 a whole lot. (Apart from anything else, if SLG are going to be persuaded to carry on with the comic, #10 is going to be the make or break one. The last new arc, probably the last comic before they'll have to commit to further scripts, a weather-vane for 'Timedancer'... And the idea isn't unclear. Guy disappears in time. To his family, it's 5 minutes. To him, it's 40 years.

I've been trying to brainstorm a site structure. "gargoylescomic" dotcom is free. Unless anyone has any better ideas, I was going to go for that.

Content-wise, here's what I have in mind so far...

MAIN PAGE: Straight to the point -- pictures of the covers which click through to Amazon/SLG. We also need some kind of introduction, and we'll have links to the sub-menus...

SERIES INTRODUCTION: A short synopsis of the series focusing on what you need to know to pick up starting with Clan-Building.

FAQ: What's TGC? Where's S2V2? Will I be able to catch up? Who's Greg Weisman?

MEDIA: Greg's interviews of the last couple of years.

LINKS: S8. The Wiki. The Gathering. SLG. Anywhere else?

MAILING LIST: E-mail updates.

CONTACT: Rather direct traffic to this board, though I take Rebel's point on not doing that.

OPEN LETTERS: I guess most of you are into other stuff besides Gargoyles. My hope is that if you can put that passion on paper, we can collaborate to get open letters targeting lots of different fandoms, and use this site as a gateway. Short, sweet, passionate, and specifically explaining what it is about fandom x that makes it a great crossover fandom with 'Gargoyles'. And we should emphasise that we're not asking them for anything except to spread the word. Many of the people reading might not be fans... but perhaps if they mention it to someone, that person will be.

Who are we going for, and what are we saying?

- To ElfQuest fans. I don't know anything about ElfQuest.
- To Star Trek fans. Emphasising the voice cast overlap, the optimistic tone, strong social conscience and astonishing sense of continuity.
- To Joss Whedon fans. Probably emphasising Greg's Buffy geekery, the positive messages and strong female leads, the epic fantasy plots and strong echoes of the Serenity get the word out campaign.

Some of these I can probably write with some confidence from personal experience or the passion of friends; others I know next to nothing about. But obviously, it's going to work best if we can find people who legitimately have a foot in two fandoms, and who can speak from the heart about what it is that draws them to be a fan of both things.

And obviously the letters are only good so long as people see them so we need to find the blogs and boards which are open to this kind of thing. Ideally, we should have content clearly relevant (if we can get quotes from Star Trek actors, for example; linking to Greg's Buffy reviews. Going beyond that is harder of course).

Incidentally... what's a win in the immediate term?

I mean, we want sales to tack up, not down; and we want the lisence picked up. But by the time we see the long-term trend, it's going to be too late to affect the renewal. 6,000 seems like a reasonable target -- fewer than 600 more people, but an important psychological barrier, and sales have been higher in the last year.

I've no idea what a reasonable, positive, number for the paperback is though. And what about Bad Guys? A fall-off seems pretty inevitable. But I'd say we should really work at making the fall-off as soft as possible. If B&W spin-offs are viable and steady, it stands to reason the lisence will be worth it even if the main title's costs eat too greatly into its profits. Obviously, if we can cross 5,000 that would be amazing, but my feeling is that not falling below 4,500 will be a success; and falling below 4,000 strikes me as an iron harpoon to our chances. But that's all guesswork.

(Not that, ultimately, it makes a blind bit of difference to our efforts, of course).

Garg Burger King Toys. I must admit I left one out when I took the picture. It's a stone Broadway that is grea/black in color that turns gree when you run warm water over him. My faves are the goliath face spinner that when you pump the little butten, it sparks inside so his eye glows. The other being the Bronx shooter-which, at the press of a button makes bronx skitter across the floor.

I wish I knew how to break into the general WoW crowd... if we got even a tenth of one percent of their active account holders, that'd be 8000 more people buying DVDs and reading comics. I've told my guildies, but that's not going to get the word to the masses.

dph> *nod* I was just mentioning in my examples some of the webcomics I read, not saying they all were suitable for our advertising. We would definitely have to think carefully before deciding on any high-end sites, and pick one we thought was closest to our target audience.
Kerry (Kth) Boyd - [Kth_dragon at hotmail dot com]

You guys need to think things through a bit. It might be better to go with low-end highly targeted ads than high-end ads targeted at a very large but unreceptive audience.

I want Gargoyles #13. And we need to do something now, January, asap! I'm in for $10 and also have PayPal. Who is willing to act as "treasurer" of s8 and should we hold an election? I nominate Kerry (Kth) Boyd.
The Gargoyles Pulse (Anthony Tini)
...updated Mondays afternoon/early evening

Sorry for the double.

We'd also need to decide who we trusted with the money, and who was going to contact the sites or otherwise arrange for our ad space (or both), if we're going to pool our funds (either to do tons of low-end sites or a few low-end and a high). We might even want to keep taking donations; I have enough to donate some money every month to help advertise.

Kerry (Kth) Boyd - [Kth_dragon at hotmail dot com]

Rebel> Well, no reason why the two options would be mutually exclusive; I think the best option would be to use both, actually, if we can afford it. We'd just have to figure out which of the better sites to spend out money on if we can raise enough. If that site (or any of them, really) has a forum, we can also put an announcement thread up with links, provided they have a section that allows it.
Kerry (Kth) Boyd - [Kth_dragon at hotmail dot com]

Kerry - I think the better option would be for all of us to pool money to get an expensive ad on a good site. The question is, are enough people willing (and able) to contribute? I have paypal and I could fork over about 10 dollars. If there are enough of us willing and able, we could get $200 together easily without it costing each of us very much.

I've actually written a java program that creates an animated banner ad with dimensions of 468 pixels by 60 pixels. Online forums may designate their own standards, but a couple I've seen designate max size for a banner in the image as 100 pixels by 100 pixels with max file size of 29kb.

dph_of_rules
Whatever happenned to simplicity?

I've done a bit of poking around and, not surprisingly, putting a Gargoyles ad on a webcomic would cost money (in addition to needing the properly-sized ad in the first place). The cost depends on the comic and method of choosing ads. For example, Phoenix Requiem and Three Panel Soul both use Ad Wonderful, where you submit an ad and bid an amount - your ad is up for as long as you're the highest bidder. On both, the current ad's bid is less than $10.

By contrast, Megatokyo runs two kinds - a rotating one at the top of the page, and a static ad near the news section. The top ad runs about $160/day, and the news ad is $200/week. I know this is a lot, and MT seems to run mostly anime-based ads, but it gets around 100k unique visitors A DAY.

Some, like Looking for Group, Penny Arcade, and Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, you have to contact for specific information. So obviously no pricing info there till you ask.

So I suppose the question is, do we want to do this, and if so, how do we want to get it done? It looks like the Ad Wonderful-type comics could be funded by individuals who either make their own ads or get a friend to make one for cheap/free. Ones that cost more would either take someone with a lot of spare cash or a group effort. Do we, as a group, want to try for the more expensive spots, or keep in the low-end range of things? I'd be willing to donate toward either venture.

Kerry (Kth) Boyd - [Kth_dragon at hotmail dot com]

dph> What's the standard height/width of a banner like that? I'm assuming it's measured in pixels and not inches or whatnot.
Kerry (Kth) Boyd - [Kth_dragon at hotmail dot com]

Yeah, whenever I mention the comic to people, I don't tell them that the sales are falling, and I also don't tell them about this place (because it's filled with comments about the sales falling). Show no weaknesses.
Rebel

I sometimes wonder if it's such a good idea to be checking the SLG site and then worrying aloud about its failure to advertise "Gargoyles" properly (or the indications that the upcoming issue has been delayed yet again). While the fandom needs to be aware of the comic's under-promotion (so that we can do the job ourselves), it may also lead us to do too much worrying about it - and even fear that the comic is doomed and it's time to start distancing ourselves from it (an attitude which would fulfill those very fears).

Today is Robert Burns' birthday, incidentally - though I don't know if Goliath and his clan (even if they are of Scottish descent) would take any interest in that or not.

It's bad enough that Disney wouldn't advertise, but slg won't even make the announcement on their website. Or is that because they assume everybody is checking Diamond and not them.

Spreading the word> The Gargoyles comics need publicity. Plain and simple. What I've been doing in that vain:

1) I noticed on G4 TV that they have brought back "Fresh Ink". If you're not familiar, it's a segment during Attack of the Show where Blair Butler picks three comics and talks about them. I've been posting in the Fresh Ink thread and the Attack of the Show thread to try to suggest that they talk about the Gargoyles comic on their show. I recently posted a thread just giving everyone the heads up about the Gargoyles comic's existence so I'm hoping for a positive response. If we can get Gargoyles just 30 seconds of screen time, I'd think that would really help our cause to spread the word.

2) I listen to Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier's podcast called SModcast. A lot of people are listening to it and it's one of iTunes top downloads. It's free to listen to and is usually very funny and entertaining.

I know Kevin Smith is a huge comic book guy and I think it would be a real good idea if I could somehow get him to talk about Gargoyles on his podcast.

The best way I know to "contact" him is via his message boards on his ViewAskew website. Unfortunately I've paid my $2.00 registration fee to post on that board and have yet to get access. So I don't know what's going on, but I think it's a step in the right direction. I think celebrity endorsement would really help us spread the word.

Ideally, if I could get the comic in the hands of any of those famous kids in High School Musical, and some tabloid shows them, or a picture of them with Gargoyles comic in hand appears in US Weekly, then we'd have an explosion on our hands and Gargoyles would not only live again, but thrive.

Closed attempt) I was trying to spread the word on Yahoo Answers. My questions has been closed/removed for I think they are only active without any responses for a week or something. So no luck there, but thanks Rebel for the star on that question when it was active.

I don't think Thailog and Shari are up to anything yet. But I think they could be.

I think it would be fairly similar to Xanatos and Fox in the beginning -- "here we are, two brilliant, successful, pragmatic, and mutually attractive people. How about it?" Thailog has a lot of his other father in him, too. Only I don't think it would turn out to be the kind of transformative, cockle-warming true love experience it was for Xanatos -- it would just be convenient and agreeable. Or possibly a disaster. But I bet it would be more of a partnership than his one-sided, manipulative relationship with Demona.

All that ooey-gooey, noble, self-sacrificing stuff? They're both too evolved for that...they'd agree on it.

Just one way it could go -- I don't think it's out of the question.

bluewyvern
"Attend the petty jealousies and angers that prey upon your heart."

If Thailog and Shari were having sex, I think she'd have been in that tub with him. I don't think they are.

But, there is a lot of chemistry there, yes. And hey, evil people love each other all the time.

Because they're stupid, that's why, and jealous. They disrespected our proud Italian heritage and named us after a ballet costume." - Phil Leotardo

I think Thailog will never love another. I don't see him risking his life for another. Unless he has some sort of redemption, but I doubt that would happen in the near future. He may like Shari for eye candy. He could want to sleep with her, but would likely use her like he uses everyone. And I wonder if Shari would even mind at all. She doesn't seem like the type to be looking for love either. They likely both have something to gain from their partnership. Having sex may be a perk for them, but not their ultimate goal.

Kerry (Kth) Boyd - [Kth_dragon at hotmail dot com]

Hello everyone. I'm a longtime fan as well as a longtime lurker. I've been reading about ways to spread the word to people about the Gargoyles DVDs and comics. I recall one of the ideas was to make attention grabbing banners for other websites that people would want to check out.

I made this banner a few hours ago and I stuck it in my deviant art journal, and then below it I wrote about how the series is still alive in a new format and put links under it that direct people to the dvds and comics. I'd like to offer this banner to be used by any Gargoyles fans if they wish for their sigs/journals/anything else that helps in spreading the word. Link to the banner: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/TheTigress/gargoylesnobg.png?t=1201233991

Hope you guys like it and that it helps bring more fans to Gargoyles.

TheTigress - [thetigressver2 at yahoo dot com]

Given the recent store arrival of the trades, an idea came to me concerning last weeks discussion. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the majority of those here (myself included) purchase both the individual issues and the trades.

In addition to spreading word on the trade and the DVDs to get more potential fans into the series, has anyone considered giving their individual issues to friends/libraries/any place that has a magazine section after acquiring a copy of the trade (or keeping the individual issues and buying the trade for somebody)? At least as a way to give them means of sampling the series.

I thinl it would help, but I may be mistaken.

Antiyonder - [antiyonder at yahoo dot com]

Sorry for the double post.

As far as Shari and Thailog having some kind of romance, I'm not sure what I think about that. To be honest, I don't think Thailog is capable of real love. If he and Shari were to get..."involved"...I think it would likely be a casual thing.

Rebel

Maybe Calliope was a Mab sympathizer, and therefore banished forever from Avalon? I dunno.

Anyway, bluewyvern, I don't know if I agree with your ideas, but they are certainly VERY interesting, and not entirely unlikely.

Rebel

@Asatira (Shari/Thailog)- True, I see your point. But then again, how many pragmatic business meetings take place in moody blue bathrooms while one member takes a steamy bath (#7, pg 3,. November 4, 5:30AM EST bubble)? Granted, maybe Thailog's just in a hot tub, but the idea amuses me too much not to entertain.

I so enjoy the crack pairings active series bring to the table.

Spoonvonstup - [howbedobe at hotmail dot com]

I'm going to disagree with your arguments. The idea she may be Calliope, and part of the Third Race, is not likely simply because of the Gathering, as mentioned. I think that the return is more or less a permanent thing, and even with some allowances for excursions, I think there'd be too much disruption to be an effective member of the Illuminati.

As for a relationship between Shari and Thailog, not likely. There may be some physical attraction between the two, possibly, maybe, but I get the feeling they're both too pragmatic to go beyond that. Theirs is more of a business relationship, a partnering of the minds not the hearts.

Asatira

Abluewyvern- I am rapidly falling in love with your Thailog/Shari theory. Visuals+Shaharizad parallels pretty much sell me on it (and now that the idea has been introduced, I won't really care whether it happens or not).
Spoonvonstup - [howbedobe at hotmail dot com]

Bit of a topic change...

I've been musing on the topic of Shari lately, and poking through the archives I see you've all talked already about the (highly likely) possibility of her being Scheherezade in some form or another. Coming to this conclusion independently, I took it a step further. Since I didn't see it come up at all in Ask Greg except for an oblique reference to "Arabian Nights", I thought about sharing it there with him, but I decided to do my speculating here rather than flood the queue.

Shari's number struck me: nine. There's really only one strong association I have with the number nine, and that's Muses. Do you think it's possible that Shari could be Calliope, "beautiful-voiced", the muse of storytelling and epic poetry? Why she hasn't been Gathered I can't explain, but Scheherezade could have been one of her old mortal human forms, and Shari the most recent. Maybe she's been other great storytellers in the past. Maybe she was once an old Nigerian woman who taught a young Diane the craft of storytelling around a village campfire -- or in a college workshop on "Narrative Traditions of African Folklore". Maybe a young Jeffrey Robbins took her writing workshop, "Truth through Fiction: Crafting the Novel". Going back further, maybe she knew Shakespeare, whispering in his ear. (If the story continues indefinitely, we've gotta see Shakespeare at some point. Chances Brooklyn WON'T meet him Timedancing?) Maybe she urged Merlin to write down what he knew about Arthur. Handed him a couple of vellum scrolls, and said, "Here, fill these."

I'm just riffing now, but I find the idea very appealing. Plenty of holes, of course. (Does this mean that the Nine tier just happens to be reserved for the Muses, all Illuminatae?) What do you think?

One more thing I haven't seen brought up -- and this relates to the Scheherezade theory, not the Calliope theory. If Shari is or is paralleling Scheherezade, does anyone think this might lead to a romantic subplot with Thailog down the line? Remember how the tale ends -- happy marriage to the once-cruel Sultan. Their night flights around the city are already a visual "dark Goliath and Elisa" parallel -- could there be even more to it? One factor against this is the supposed rarity of human-gargoyle pairings -- only one other in history, and I somehow doubt it's contemporary. On the other hand, that could just mean pre-Goliath and Elisa -- maybe Thailog and Shari would be next in line. I bet Thailog would even get a kick out of "following in his old dad's footsteps", and would enjoy the discomfort it would almost certainly provoke in Goliath. Being a clone, never belonging to traditional gargoyle society, and already clearly attracted enough to Elisa to throw a little of her DNA into his intended "perfect mate", there would seem to be fewer barriers to Thailog pairing up with a human -- you know, it's starting to make more and more sense.

Wow. I think I need to take a break...

David> Yeah, Brodaway is a bit rough, but still better than the one sold, bringing the wings down was smart. And feel free to steal any of my ideas. The Little Green One is an awesome and easy custom because it is so basic. You just need a Lexington, half of Brooklyn's wings and some sculpty and paint. Mine might've been better if I changed out Lex's legs along with the wings. He kinda squats. Maybe Brook's legs would work also.
Looking forward to seeing your Macbeth.

Thanks again everyone for the feedback on my customs.

Starlioness - I am working on an Angela figure. I have been for a while. I can't seem to get her hair right in a way that looks natural and cartoony. Also, sometimes she had more Demonaesq hair then others and its hard figuring out how much of that to incorporate.

Demonskrye - Great description of Brooklyn! That was my first thought upon getting him. The sanding down of all the ice is a pain, but I think the results speak for themselves. If you don't have a dremmel tool, it would be smart to invest in one before you start work on Brooklyn.

Matt - Sorry to hear about your breakup. Congrats on the new job, though.
I would love to see some pics of your customs if you ever get the opportunity to take them. If you don't have access to a digital camera or scanner, I could give you my address privately and scan them in for you. How does your Griff figure look? I've been considering using Griffon Goliath's armor for that very purpose, so I'm curious how it came out. Zafiro must have been a pain to sculpt. Was that toy you took the smake body from Sansker from Spawn by chance? Thailog and Angela are pretty much in line with what I did as well. How well did Boudicca come out? I'd given up on Bronx as a base reluctantly, but never found a better option. Your designs for Demona's Second, Coldstone, and The Little Green One (especially) sound very interesting. I wish I could see the results. Actually, if you don't mind too much, I may steal your recipe for The Little Green One. Your other nameless gargoyles sound great too. Again if there is any way I can help with getting pics of these online please let me know.

I just found this pic online, but I feel it needs a bit of an explanation. Broadway here is probably my weakest custom thus far. I tried too much too soon on the wings, and the paint looks a little sloppy. He's currently being redone in hopes of fixing the wings, and altering the hands to look a bit less like he's doing "jazz hands" also, the paint I used was identical to the green Kenner used. I thought this was amazing and never painted the head. Of course, the head photographs a totally different shade, and thusly makes it look kinda crappy. This will be corrected as well in my redo of him. Anyhow, here he is:

I got the TPB yesterday from my store. I was a bit rushed, so I didn't look around that much, and didn't ask if he'd ordered other copies or not. Poor on my part. I haven't had a chance to read it, so I can't say much. I was surprised by the dimensions; I was expecting a regular sized trade, same dimensions of the individual comics, not 3/4. If they transcribed the images well, this shouldn't be a problem. Can't wait to see Wendy's intro.

Hey guys, I know it has been a while, but time to catch up (yeah, I had to read all the comments for the last few days) and get active again. My boyfriend and I had a pretty civil breakup and I moved out, on top of that I started a new job. All of this happened in the last week, so it has been a bit busy. Anyway...

David> Wow, you've made some amazing custom figures. I like mine and think they are pretty cool, but yours put mine to shame. Gorgeous work on your part. Oh, and putting the Xanatos head on the Steel Clan robot and painting it is a genius idea I hadn't thought of. You asked about my custom figures. I unfortunatly don't have any pics online, but I can give you rough descriptions of what I made them out of:
Griff- I used a Goliath body (you'll find I use a lot of Goliath bodies since they made so many Goliaths) and then used pieces of Griffon Goliath figures' armor for the head. Sculpty'd the feathery wings onto the Goliath wings, cut off the wing claws and added a Sculpty tail tuft. Repainted.
Zafiro- Goliath upper body. Did a ton of Sculpty to make Zafiro's horns and stuff. The lower snake body and the feathered wings came off some other toy I can't recall. Repainted. Zafiro was cool because He had the snake-body, but could still stand up very well.
Thailog- Goliath repaint obviously.
Angela- Sanded Demona's weird armor off. Sculpty'd some longer, smoother hair. Added a bit of Sculpty to correct for her costume and repainted.
Boidicca- Bronx figure sanded here, Sculpty'd there and repainted.
Demona's Second- This was my most diverse figure. He had a Goliath's body, Brooklyn's wings, Broadway's head. Did lots of sanding and Sculptying to make the head look right with the horns, made the armor, took the wing claw I clipped off for the Griff figure and replaced Brook's wing hands, repainted. One of my favorites.
Coldstone- I could never find a Coldstone figure, so I created my own using Goliath pieces, Steel Clan pieces and Scupty'd a horn and fan ears. Not nearly as good as your Coldstone, but not bad.
"The Little Green One"- This is that little green gargoyle from Demona's Clan. I think this is one of my most spot on figures. Basically, I took a Lexington, chopped off his wings, took Brook's wings and chopped them to make them look perfect, attached them to the wingless Lex. Sculpty'd the beak and horns and painted.
I also made many random gargoyles. A female with Lex's body and wings but with Ophelia's crest and hair, an English gargoyle based on a bull using Hudson's body and the Minotaur Goliath armor (he had a bull's face and hooved feet!), a Japanese gargoyle and a few others.
Anyway, David, if you had any other Gargoyles custom figures to show me you can email me using the email with my name below or just post links in here, I'd love to see any of them.

Gargoyles Merchandise> I have a ton of action figures of course including the sky sled thing and the bike. A folder, two posters (one I got by mailing in for it after buying the videos), the black-haired Demona and Hudson applause figures, all the danglers, several t-shirts (some fromt the Gatherings), a bunch of the cards, the pin sold at the Disney Store a few years ago, a Gargoyles board game, all of the Marvel comics and all of the SLG comics, not to mention the DVDs and tapes. I also have the Gargoyles: 2198 prize which is very cool and signed by Greg.

Youth and Gargoyles> My niece and nephew are both two and they've both seen Gargoyles. My niece had little interest in it, but my nephew watched three episodes with me the other day, so that was cool. I believe we watched "The Green", "Bushido" and "Cloud Fathers".

Rebel> I've had a thought to add a merchandise section to the Wiki. I think eventually it''l encompass everything, so give it time.

Trade Paperback> I went down to the same store Todd goes to and pcked up my copy. I'll probably write up a review of it or something as soon as I read it. I really like the smaller size honestly. More novelish or something, lol. I also noticed by flipping through that all the errors seem to be fixed and that some of the way too dark scenes from #1-2 have been brightened a bit and look great. So that is good. Great to have it all together and error-free, I love it.

Well, my comic book store didn't have the TPB. So I guess I'll get it next week.

At least I don't have to worry about anybody posting something that might be a spoiler!

Interesting... I thought the trade paperback would be printed to the same dimensions as the comic books.

"It's only at the turning point that you find out how you fight." - Genesis, "In the Rapids"

One interesting thing I just noticed from Greg's gathering 2006 ramble;

" More importantly, I got a chance to talk to Wendy Pini. Wendy, the creator of Elfquest, as it turns out, is a big Gargoyles fan. And I've been a fan of hers for longer than either of us cared to admit. She was extremely charming, and we really hit it off. Yeah, yeah, mutual admiration society. <YAWN> I know. But it does raise an interesting point. Gargoyles. Elfquest. If you like one, you might like the other. (After all, I like both and so does Wendy.) And yet before Wendy contacted the constaff a few days before the con, it never occured to any of us to try to win Elfquest fans over to Gargoyles or vice versa. So what other FANDOMS are there out there that we're not reaching out to. I don't know. But I need all of you to start thinking about it and SPREAD THE WORD!!!"

I think it is important that we contact the Elfquest fandom and let them know about the Trade paperback and the new comic. There is a discussion forum over at www.elfquest.com

Maybe someone more eloquent than me can start an appropriate thread over there?

Brigadoon Traveller

Like Blaise, I was surprised at how small the trade paperback was; I'm used to these things being larger than that. Though I'm not complaining about it - just astonished.

In the past discussion about telling various fangroups about the comic, did anybody mention "Elfquest" among them? Since Wendy Pini wrote the introduction for the trade paperback, I think they'd be especially appropriate to contact now.

TB Released today- I've been working furiously on a razzy snazzy commercial for Clan-Building Volume 1 and I've only got about forty seconds left to edit on it, but I need your help. I'm looking for a shot of Angela with battle-red eyes where she actually looks like Angela (is: something of the quality of "Shadows of the Past" "Hunters Moon III" etc) but all I can find so far are off model moments or where her face is hidden/too far away/there's someone else in the shot.

Little help? Thanks!

****A hole opens in the ceiling and a green Ford Ranger falls out and lands in the middle of the Comment Room. Miraculously, it remains in one piece. As the hole in the ceiling vanishes, the driver-side door opens and Blaise steps out.**** Just got back from the comic store.

THE NEW TRADE PAPERBACK> I picked up my copy about a quarter after 11am or so (I can only afford one at the moment), and sat in my car going through it before I dared to drive home. My first thought was, "Wow...it's a bit smaller than the comic." Yes, the trade paperback is about three-quarters the size (in length and width) as the regular issues of the comic. However, perhaps as a result of the smaller page size, there seems to be A LOT more detail in the art. Also, it's a bit brighter--the first two issues especially benefit from the increase in clarity and brightness. And all those little gaffs from before are fixed (the "Masque" title finally appears!).
Wendy Pini gives a great introduction. I especially like her little "character breakdown" (does anybody here consider Brooklyn to be a "bishie?").
So overall, hooray for the first TPB of "Gargoyles!" Here's the solemn hope that there are many more.

GREG BISHANSKY> I think I saw you today. I was waiting for the light to change when I saw a rather sharply dressed guy crossing the street in front of me with a "Golden Apple" comics bag in his hand, and I recognized him as you. I called out, but I don't know if you recognized me (and I apologize if I threw you off at all).
Either that, or I just made an ass of myself in front of a total stranger.

A heads up on some very mildly good news though. Gargoyles #7 sales are up... by 25. It's the right general direction, anyway!

http://icv2.com/articles/news/11939.html

Patrick: (re: old e-mail addresses) I'd be very pleased with 25% actually. That's getting on for 200 people! I wouldn't have expected the registry to 'score' in triple figures. If 10% of addresses are still active and half of those already know the news, that's still more new readers than jumped on board since #6.

Vash: I'd be interested to hear more about these previous attempts to get the word out to the Fans' Registry. And I can't believe that a few more can't be uncovered with some cursory detective work. But if these people have already been contacted, then obviously it's a pointless exercise.

I'll be going down to the comics store in University City where I buy my copies of "Gargoyles", and see if they've got it there. They probably will - I certainly hope so.

David> Very nice work. I like the redone Xanatos head. Good job on giving him a more accurate skin tone. That's pretty much what we'd like to do with our Icestorm Brooklyn should my husband ever have the time, as I have no attachment to owning a cookies 'n cream gargoyle. I'd very much like to see what else you've done. I figured Thailog would be a fun custom and the other two are figures that could definitely use some improving.

Thank you everyone for the kind words.

Wingless - If it's something you want to get into, Michael's has a relatively inexpensive magnifying lamp which I use to do most of the detail. It's pretty handy.

As far as people who asked about the recipes, here goes:

Brooklyn was made from the Kenner Icestorm Brooklyn. I took the missile launcher off his wind, sanded off all the icicles (which to this day remains the biggest pain in the butt I have ever endured making a custom) and cut off the "hands" on the top of the wings, then reattached them facing the proper way. His tale was sculpted from scratch, but only due to my inability to find a decently prices figure with the tail included. After that I just repainted him.

Coldstone was a straight up repaint of Kenner's Coldstone. I plan to someday change his missile launching arm into something a little more arm looking at some point just to differentiate him a little more from Kenner's figure.

Hudson was Kenner's Hudson. I shaved down his potato sack pants above the belt a bit to make him look less like he just lost a ton of weight. I also resculpted the body to add a little more Hudson-like build. Next I changer the sword swinging arm so that it had a different angle and articulation instead of the swingign action. After that I sculpted the cloaked wings and tail from Super Sculpy. The tail was done for the same reason as Brooklyn's. Finally I redid his beard to make it look a bit more like the cartoon, and repainted everything except his pants (Though I added a little detail to those).

Xanatos's head comes from a Kenner Xanatos. The body comes from a Kenner Steel Clan figure. Magnets allow the Xanatos and Steel Clan robot heads to be interchangeable so that i can have him helmetless or not. I added articulation to the wrist-laser arm and repainted accordingly.

Anyone interested in seeing Macbeth, Thailog, or Boradway?

David - [souiofangelus at aol dot com]

David> Nice mods! I can tell the Brooklyn is an Ice Storm and I recognize the Coldstone, but I'm not familiar with the other bases, so I can't be sure how much you did to each one. The Hudson especially looks great, though.

David and everybody else who wants my stuff> It's all back at my mother's house upstate, so I can't dispose of anything right now, but now that I know there's interest, I'll try to get it next time I go up.

It doesn't bother me that I don't have any gargoyles merchandise, because most of it was probably made of cheap plastic, and I'm not really into things like that anyway. (I don't mean to insult y'all's collections so please don't take offense--everyone has their own views on these things). bluewyvern - and for everyone with the applause demona that never stands up. what I did was get some of that putty stuff that you use to stick up posters & stuff (it used to be known as Fun tak in my day). You can just stick some of that under her feet and a piece under her tail and she'll stay standing. I had the same problem with the small applause lexington. His tail is so long and curved he kept tipping over - a little of the putty and he stands up.

The gargoyles Tent - I remember that being a really hot item at the 1998 Gathering auction. Alas, not an item I've managed to find. *cries* there were Gargoyle sheet sets!!! I waaaant-if only for the pillow cases! Somehow I don't think they make them in queen size sets anyway ^_~

I'll probably regret asking this, but... how does selling your old toys make you a more likely target for identity theft?

My Applause Demona figure won't stand up, either. I have her on a bookshelf with her tail wedged back in between the books to keep her upright. I've thought about painting her hair red, but I'm not sure I have as steady a hand as I did years ago when I used to make model cars and customize Lego people.

"Attend the petty jealousies and angers that prey upon your heart."

Merchandise> I just recently moved my "Gargoyles" collection from my parents' house to mine, so I'm pretty sure it's all here now. I'm not looking at it right this second, but I have:

- Assortment of the Kenner action figures (most of the most standard versions of the characters, except Broadway, who I thought looked better in the Hard Wired version anyways), the griffin and minotaur armor Goliaths, the big Goliath with the cloth wings, Coldstone, Hard Wired Goliath Lexington Broadway and Xanatos, and an Ice Storm Brooklyn that's supposed to be customized into a regular Brooklyn someday. And the standard versions of the characters does include the Elisa figure.)
- Brooklyn's bike
- Xanatos's roadster and the business suit Xanatos that came with it
- The sky sled
- The castle playset
- 2 books - a guide to the characters and a picture book of "Awakening", Parts One and most of Two.
- an audio cassette game, similar in concept to the one and the end of "Heroes Awaken"
- a play tent (impulse purchase)
- set of the SkyBox trading cards
- the Applause figures (including odd black-haired Demona whose tail keeps her from standing up)
- the DVDs (plus an extra copy of Season One in case someone needs it someday)
- the VHS tapes (maybe. I'm not entirely sure if I got rid of them when the DVD came out)
- the SLG comics
- the Marvel Comics (not sure if it's a complete set, but I plan to dig them out and start writing summaries for GargWiki)
- series bible (bought this on ebay and I'm honestly not sure where it is right now)
- t-shirt (black with large image of Goliath, the one where he's holding onto an architectural gargoyle)
- 2 posters (the one of the clan flying down from the Eyrie Building and the first issue comic promo poster, signed by Greg, Hedgecock, and Will Terrel at SDCC)
- cel and layout drawing from "Sanctuary" (still need to be framed)

Figure-wise, I think my favorite is the Kenner Coldstone. It's a nice sculpt and a really fun toy representation of what the character does. It was also a gift from my husband right around the time he and I started dating. (He also got me the standard Lexington and the Ice Storm Brooklyn and helped me track down a couple of other things.) He and I were talking about the line a couple of weeks ago (he's a professional toy designer) and how neither toy companies nor media companies were quite as interested as being faithful to the source material with the toyline in those days. The idea was more to get variations out of the major characters than to accurately represent the property's entire world. You still sometimes see that mentality today; ask any "Avatar" fan who's drowning in Aang variants and still waiting for a Katara or Toph figure. I can understand why some of the line is the way it is. The Goliath with the breakaway stone piece was probably modeled after early concept art from the series bible, as evidenced by the gold band on his arm. And some of the figures were just attempts to make the character more action figure-y, like giving most of the characters weapons, Coldstone's chest spinner, Elisa's jet pack/missile launcher, or Bronx's glider. Even if these things aren't canon, they make a degree of sense while creating a more exciting toy. You could imagine the other gargoyles picking up human weapons and using them like Hudson did. Coldstone may not actually have a screen on his chest showing which personality is in control, but it's a fun feature that accurately represents an aspect of the character. And neither Elisa or Bronx can fly, so you could see them doing something to remedy that. Other things, like Elisa's outfit, Macbeth's orange skin tone, and the whole helicopter debacle, I don't understand quite so much.

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

I never really collected anything, either. My brother and I used to have a mess of the Skybox trading cards, but I think they got lost in a move.

DTaina showed me a picture of the Night Striker not too long ago, and my first reaction was, "the thing looks like something the Alien might produce after a bad fit of indigestion."

Some of the Marvel comics (still searching for ones I need)
All of the SLG comics

I think I found a Steel Clan figure too but I don't remember. I dug out my Demona and Bronx earlier today but can't recall where Brook and Coldstone are; got to look through my storage totes which will be an adventure lol.

I had a Bronx Clock once, but my brother broke it or melted it or something, I don't remember. I guess I blocked that painful memory out.
The Gargoyles Pulse (Anthony Tini)
...updated Mondays afternoon/early evening

Bronx Alarm clock - I roomed with IRC Goliath at 2001 Gathering and he had one - I fell in love with the thing. When I discovered Ebay I found a one of them and managed to win it. I only ever saw one up for azuction. Admittedly it's not very well made. In fact the alarm hand on mine kinda just dangles there although I think I could fix it if I tried.

One piece of Garg merchandise o would have really liked to own (other than the "read pooster") There was a white prototype of a live looking goliath statue (more human looking-with much more detail than your average toy). If i remember right, this was supposidly going to be used to make some more "collectable" toys. It really looked cool(I saved the photos of it somewhere). It went for $100s - and I think Raptor Woman won it.

Wingless

Gargs Stiff: most of that stuff looks pretty sweet Wingless.. I'd really like that Bronx Clock :)

don't have much merch myself, just the comics, the DVD's and a Burger King Brons Figure.. I used to have a coloring book and a Tiger Electronics game though,

Starlioness

wingless> that alarm clock is the cutest thing i've ever seen! (including my dog who's laying in one of those weird legs in the air poses right now)

Alas, I have nothing cool from back in the day. my mother teased me bad enough as it was for watching the show...

As for the blue Goliath- yeah, that was REALLY blue- but i always thought he was much more of a slate-blue than a lavender anyways- his color fluctuated between more grey, to grey-blue, to shades of pale grey-lavender, but I always thought he was more in the blueish ranges

why do we build castles in the sky?

I've updated the Pulse. Looks like no Bad Guys in January, but hopefully Disney approves it so we get in February.
The Gargoyles Pulse (Anthony Tini)
...updated Mondays afternoon/early evening

I have a bunch of stuff sitting in a box at home waiting for eBay. There are one or two items I might save, like the large Applause Goliath and Demona figures, which are pretty nice, but for the most part I'm over it. Especially all those ugly non-canon action figures. Yeesh!

So here's what I can remember having:
Action figures: Mighty Roar Goliath, Coldstone, Hardwired Lexington, Goliath, and Broadway, those mythical-armored Goliath and Bronx, Ice Storm Brooklyn
Applause: Brooklyn and Lexington mugs, small Brooklyn, Elisa, and Bronx figures, large Goliath and Demona, Goliath and Broadway pencil toppers w/pencils
cardboard puzzle
board game
a completed* sticker album, plus loads of spare stickers
a completed* trading card set, plus spares
*I think...one of these might be missing one or two still, but I think I got them all

I also have the coveted Goliath READ poster, with bookmarks. (If any of you got READ bookmarks at the very first Gathering, that was me. They come in a pack of 100, so I had plenty to spread around.) Sadly, the poster is getting a little tattered now, and never did have a proper frame. I wonder if I could still get another one. I got it by asking my school librarian (that was back in MIDDLE school -- wow) for an ALA catalog, and I ordered it straight from there. To this day I still get ALA catalogs mailed to me sometimes, but alas, I haven't seen Gargoyles posters in them for many years.

I also have Marvel Gargoyles #1, and I think #5 that I just ordered a few weeks ago and haven't read yet (it's the Bronx one). I'd like to get the rest of the Marvel comics sometime soon.

That's about it...I've probably forgotten a few things, but that's most of it...

Todd & Algernon: The two DVDs and the current comics are ALL I have. You guys aren't alone :)

But when I was little, I did get a couple of action figures, including a Bronx, Hudson, Broadway, a Steel Clan robot, Xanatos, Goliath. Where they are now, I wish I knew. (I seriously suspect some of them were victims of a garage sale my parents threw years ago. :( )

"The Suspense is Terrible . . . I Hope it Lasts" -- Willy Wonka

Part 2:
Some misc Garg stuff: Includes 2 binders, Coloforms set(not mentioned in my list, a couple of puzzles, a couple of baseball caps and the creepy crawlers set. http://www.sixtiesradio.org/miscgargstuff.jpg

Ultimate Goliath and custom Elisa: Something else I forgot to add to my list. Stormy also made me a 12 inch tall Elisa out of a Barbie friend character-and dressed her up like elisa. She kinda goes well with Ultimate goliath(despite how ulgy that particular Goliath figure is): http://www.sixtiesradio.org/ultimategoliathcustumelisa.jpg

Gargoyles TV Tray: eat with your fave gargs-if you dare. A little metal TV tray with fold down legs for breakfast in bed while you watch gargs. Sadly a little small to fit over large people but it's still neat to have. I noticed the manufacturer is some company called PAX "cringe" http://www.sixtiesradio.org/gargtvtray.jpg

There's a peek at some of the stuff.

Also added to my list of stuff
-playing cards
-Burger king toys
-colorforms set(as I mentioned above)

Enjoy

Ok folks, here we go.
The Bronx clock-the first thing I ever bought on Ebay: http://www.sixtiesradio.org/bronxclock.jpg

Goargoyles Door Mat-I bought this at the 1998 Gathering auction - cost me $70 bucks...little did I know they had more than one! http://www.sixtiesradio.org/gargdoormat.jpg

The Garg Shrine - most of the kenner stuff. A little messy, but you get the idea: http://www.sixtiesradio.org/gargshrine.jpg

Goliath Towel - I love this because of how bright it is. So what Goliath is blue - it still looks cool. Also nice to see Goliath with a smile: http://www.sixtiesradio.org/gargtowel.jpg

I'm trying to post links to the pics, but im getting "Lions are eating the server"
Wingless

I have, somewhere, the original Marvel comics. They're probably in a box that I can't get to at the moment. I was never much of a merchandise person for anything, so I never got much Gargoyles merchandise. I did get the pin when the Disney store sold it for a while (I loaned it to my brother, and I never got it back despite what he says :( ). I found and claimed a steel clan robot and a giant Goliath doll from my father's office attack. That's about it beyond the current series of comics.
Asatira

Anyone remember the Gargoyle comic series published by Marvel?

I read that the Marvel comics introduced concepts which later appeared on the show. (LaVonne anyone?)

Michael Ejercito - [mejercit at hotmail dot com]

Todd> Don't feel to bad, beyond the DVDs and some comics I don't have any real Gargoyles merchendise either. I do have the first issue of the old Marvel comic signed by Martin Pasko and Amanda Conner, thats somthing right?

LOL, Wineglass. Awesome.

Also, you guys should upload pics of these things to photobucket or something and post links for everyone to see.

Also, is there a section in the "apocrypha" part of the wiki for action figures and merchandise? That'd be neat.

Rebel

David - The Fox figure was made for me by Stormy - believe it was made from one of the spiderman related characters(forget which one-think the one with white hair-help me out). The Future Tense brooklyn I won at the 2001 Gathering-which is how I got him signed by Jeff Bennet*grins*. Sadly, much of his armor has broken off-which happened in transit(it was made from clay)

Chris - *hugs back* thanks for that. I'll take all the huggs I can get - and return em too ^_^ especially today since it's -20oC here *shivers*

I'll post a few pics of some of the more unusual merchandise later if you like.

Wingless

I guess I could. Maybe I can sell it on ebay, and the person buying it could glue it...

The Gargoyles jigsaw puzzles I have (that I framed and still have) are the one with a really scary looking Goliath and Clan flying at you with the castle atop the Eerie Buiding in the background. I have the one pictured here:
http://avalon.gargoyles-fans.org/castle/item/puzzle.jpg
And I have a puzzle with Demona and Goliath about to attack each other, I believe there are lights and buildings in the background.

I'm in the process of finding all my old stuff and might start throwing some things up on eBay. Eventually I'll get pictures up of all the Gargoyles swag that I've accumulated over the years.

I have this hug foot tall Goliath, but unfortunately, the plastic pieces that hold in his wings on his back are broken. Should I toss it or you think someone would buy it if I listed it on eBay?

What a list wingless! I would have loved to have gotten my hands on any of that stuff! *Hugs* for the terminally single- too bad I'm already married...;) but I freely give lots of hugs.

What's the topic this week?

why do we build castles in the sky?

I may be one of the few people here who *hasn't* collected that much "Gargoyles" merchandise. All I have are the two DVDs and the eight issues of the comic ("Gargoyles" #1 to #7 and "Bad Guys" #1). I used to have a small storybook that allowed you to stamp images of the characters in the scenes, but I donated it to the Gathering 2001. (The book's story was rather silly; it had the gargoyles at the end imprisoning Xanatos in the lions' cage at the zoo! I can't imagine Xanatos undergoing such a humiliating defeat in the television series.)

Gargoyles - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Does anyone know if 3x3 Eyes will be on TV anytime soon?

(7th?)

I just finished rewatching "Ransom" and yes, it's part of TGS and is entirely unconnected to the master plan, but gosh! Such a cute episode! I had forgotten how much I really enjoyed it. Lex and Alex were meant to be. Fox was much too weepy for my tastes and Alex is just plain creepy, but the animation is passable to good most of the rest of the time, and the whole episode made me go "D'aaaaw."

Just passin' on the love. It ain't no canon, but I give it props anyway.

Reviving Gargoyles MV Hell train of thought! I am still as game for this idea as ever, and I should have a page up with some rough details/guidelines/please-give-me-your-material-and-suggestions-so-this-can-be-freaktastically-awesome/etc tomorrow.

I remember the Avalon archive had one started, but I just looked and I dont see it there any longer. Maybe it's something we should work on again - with photos and all. I'm far from having it all, I know a few people that have a lot of stuff, again, it's something we should work on. I know I want one of those book lamps - I didn't know about those ^_^

BTW - all this does not count for the usual count down - so feel free to resume where we left off folks!

dph_of_rules
Whatever happenned to simplicity?

dph - there's tons of stuff that isn't in that list that is available. Like the Bronx alarm Clock. A rare piece - Cute as hell to have to push down on bronx to turn off the alarm ^_^.
Wingless

Wingless - < http://www.gargoyles-fans.org/merchandise/index.htm > I don't see puzzles listed among Gargoyles merchandise, that's why I'm asking.
dph_of_rules
Whatever happenned to simplicity?

dph - um, I don't have them handy at the moment, but 2 of them are wrappped in plastic and are already made up on a piece of cardboard-2 different sizes. one is in a box - the other is the puz 3D. The Puz 3D i really want is the one of the Castle. Apparently they only made that in Canada and yet I never found it.
Wingless

Wingless - Can you describe those puzzles?

- ALL the large and small Applause figures

- Goliath Talking Bank
- ALL Kenner figures in boxes - admittedly most of these were awful, but I did like the goliath with the wings that opened - and the steel clan robot was pretty awesome.

- Kenner Motorcycle
- Creepy crawlers set (no oven to make em though)
- Collection of pogs
- Gargoyles Door Mat
