Hey there people! I used to post on S8 back in the day as Okali of Clan Whiptail...these days I work in special effects makeup and with the Gathering coming up I thought I'd let everyone know about screamteam.com. It's the company I work with. Might be fun for Da Gath! I also live in Hollywood now so I hope everyone has a grand old time visiting the City of Angels!

Just curious, did you try to post from a cell phone? I sometimes access the internet from my cell phone and every time I've ever tried to post here with my cell phone, I get that same message.

thanks Landon for posting that Link.. I was going to do that a few days but for some reason my Library computer is very tempermental..

Todd: Re Credit Cards. I understand you being leery about them. I was too. The trick with them is that you never spend more than you can pay off at the end of the month. They're good to have for emergencies. I got mine in order to attend Gathering 1998. As it turned out, It came in handy when we attended Gathering 2003 in NY. We drove there - and on the way back the car broke down! None of us had enough cash for towing, repairs or motel overnight - but I had my card. It didn't save us a night in a very ratty motel in Kenville, NJ (we laughed ourselves to sleep it was soo bad) - but it got the car fixed and and we made it home the next day.
Simply, Credit Cards are good to have, the deal is, you HAVE to pay it of at the end of the month. That way you don't end up paying any interest on what you bought (and thus, no guilt & no worries). I use the card for paypal & online purchases with no problems (Knock on wood).

Gargoyles: Bad Guys - Redemption is available for pre-order on Amazon too: http://www.amazon.com/Gargoyles-Bad-Guys-Greg-Weisman/dp/1593621930

I wonder if this will also have a new cover in Previews.

Todd> It's cool that you don't have a credit card so you don't spend money you don't have, but it would probably be good to have one just in case of situations like this. For example, if you want to rent video games at Blockbuster they require a credit card, and they proceed to freeze a $1 on it. After a while it becomes unfrozen and you're good to go. I've had a credit card with Bank of America since 2002 and I have used it maybe 4 times in my life. As long as you pay off the total balance you won't incur any finance charges. The more you know…(rainbow).

MATT - Thanks. It's possible that they were going to order copies anyway, but since the comic's probably become less prominent since the first trade paperback came out (cancelled, for one thing), I'm not certain of it.
Todd Jensen

Tell ya what, Todd. You handle Left Bank Books and I'll go through Starclipper (where I do have an account).

I suppose it is possible that if a store orders one or more copies for reservations that they'll order even more copies for in store shoppers.

"I hide in plain sight. The demons do it all the time." - John Castaway, 'Estranged'

I called up Starclipper Comics on the phone today (that's the comic book store in University City where I bought my copies of "Gargoyles" and "Bad Guys") and tried to put a copy of the "Gargoyles" trade paperback on order, but they told me that I had to open an account with a credit card to do so. Since I don't feel comfortable using credit cards (I've heard of too many cases of people rapidly getting into debt with them), I'm going to see if I can order it through Left Bank Books instead (since they have a small graphic novels section and I've ordered one graphic novel from them earlier this year, they'll probably be able to do so). It's within walking distance of my apartment, which will save me the bus fare to University City and back (though I will miss the visit to University City).

The 200 page count is probably a guess as well. I've asked SLG to update the specs.
Landon Thomas - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter Feed]

Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/Gargoyles-Clan-Building/dp/1593621671 Although Amazon isn't a very good resource for single issues, they're always great with trades.

Is there a reason SLG would prefer us to buy it in comic shops? I always promote the Amazon links because it's so much more convenient even though I buy it in a local comic shop myself. The August 8 release date is obviously an (incorrect) guess from Amazon. I mean, that's a Saturday. The 200 page count is interesting though. Do you think that's accurate? A lot more bonus material than Volume 1's 168 pages?

Landon Thomas - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter Feed]

Audra> Clan Building Volume Two was solicited in the May issue of Previews, so now is a very good time to talk with your local comic shop about ordering a copy. It's scheduled for a July release, but if it does get delayed somehow, you should still get the copy you ordered when the book does come in.

My god has it been a year? And still waiting to see myself in last years radio play!!

I am giving serious thought to attending this year, just the distance is an issue. I am considering putting together a King Arthur costume for the masquerade, assuming I do attend.
In an unrelated subject, I am looking to have a commission done of a character of mine. Does anyone here know any decent artists who might be able?

Justin "I;d Rather Be Pillaging"
Wealth dies, Glory fades, every man to must die. But word fame never dies for those who have achived it

The Gathering is not "on tour" outside of North America because it's enough of a challenge to organize a four-day event in a city where just one or two people on the staff live. There'd be no way a con staff based in the U.S. could put together an event in London and survive with their sanity intact. If you ask...

"Why was 2004 in Montreal?"
"Why was 2006 in Los Angeles?"
"Why was 2007 in Tennessee?"
"Why was 2008 in Chicago?"
"Why is 2009 in Los Angeles?"

The answer each and every time has been, "That's where the person crazy enough to step up and chair the con committee lives."

No one has ever said the European fans can't get together and organize a convention. Anyone anywhere is perfectly welcome to put an event together. You'll find there's a lot more to it, though, than pointing to a place on a map and saying, "There!" It takes a lot of planning, effort, time, and money to hold a convention.

And speaking of that... I hope that those of you who can't make it this year will please consider supporting the convention in some small way with whatever you can afford. We have supporting memberships. We have t-shirts. We have some goodies still leftover from last year. And we'll have some auctions coming up on Ebay in June and July. If you've been to the con before and you've enjoyed it, or if you've never been but you plan to come "some day," we need your support to make sure there continues to be a "next year."

My pal and I go to school in Los Angeles, and the Gathering is a week or so before we get back, so we're seriously considering attending. Finances shouldn't be too much of a worry, as we're both working this summer and if we sign up before the next registration deadline . . . .

Grr. Arg.

The only Con I can name a the drop of a hat that's not only international, but also intercontinental is the Worldcon (World Science Fiction Convention), the world biggest volunteer run event.

Otherwise, yeah, usually certain cons tend to stay in certain countries.

There are no Botcons currently in UK or Japan, since Botcon is contracted from Hasbro to FunPub who don't see it viable to do a Botcon outside of the states. But there are other unofficial cons in Europe and Canada. TFcon is Toronto based, Auto Assembly is based in the UK and there's another from time to time in the Netherlands or Belgium.

So if you want a Gargoyles convention in Europe, it takes a lot of money and dedication. It may not be called the Gathering, it may not be as big, but it's a possibility.

Just as a comparison, the stateside Worldcons tend to draw 5000+ convention goes, international ones usually range between 2000 to 3000. And the USA has the big advantage of having many inhabitants speaking the same language.

Anonymouse

Queeny> Well, I've never been on the Gathering staff, but the 2004 Gathering was in Canada, Montreal specifically. So you can't really say that the Gathering is always held in the US, though it has always been held in North America.

Some conventions are held in the same place every year, like the San Diego Comic Con. Others take place at a different location every years like the Gathering does. But off the top of my head, I can't think of any conventions that travel outside of their home continent. Most tend to stay in their country of origin. What's much more common is for other countries to hold conventions of their own. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but at one time at least, the TransFormers fandom boasted a BotCon UK and a BotCon Japan in addition to the BotCon held in the states.

I think you've pretty much answered your own question. Most of the people who worked on "Gargoyles" and would be interesting guests are in the US. (I'd hesitate to say that all of them are without knowing for sure.) Flying guests to a location in Europe at the con's expense would be pretty pricey. It could also prove too expensive for many people who go to the Gathering yearly and in some cases have been doing so since it started.

The location of the Gathering is chosen each year by selecting from a number of bids put together by groups of fans who would like to run the next Gathering in a particular place. I don't know whether bids are restricted to North American locations or not; that's something for a Gathering staff member to answer. If they aren't, your best bet if you really want to see a Gathering take place in Europe is to get a bunch of other European fans together and put together a proposal. If bids can only be for locations in North America, I would suggest that you talk with some of the veteran Gathering staff about how you might go about starting a Gargoyles convention in Europe.

I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

The Gathering's coming up soon, right guys? Who's going to be attending all together? I've checked the site, and a lot of the staff seem to be in this chat, so I've got to ask...

How come the Gathering is always in the USA???

I know its probably because Greg and Keith live there, and a lot of fans also live there, but what about us European fans who are too young to get over there? If the Gathering was in London I wouldn't mind, though it is quite a feet for me to get there!

I'll try to attend future Gathering's, trust me, I'll try, but can you give me a good clear idea why its always in the USA and not on tour?

Spidey DVD> Well I'm glad that's been announced. My husband and I have been waiting for the complete set to come out so we could pick it up on DVD; we prefer to get the season sets if they're available. The only downer is that it sounds like the special features are pretty minimal. I was hoping we'd at least get a commentary track on one episode. Still, I'd probably buy it if there were no special features at all and the two featurettes could be interesting.

Well, I can't say I'm not impressed with the new site layout.

I miss this show so much, it's sad that I keep straying from it every few months or so. I recently started re-watching the show and found out that I apparently have never seen a few episodes(which shocks me, for a few years ago I followed this show like a cult and started up until 5:30am to tape or at least watch it).

As soon as I get some extra $, I plan to buy the recent SLG comics and the DVDs. I remember the day I saw the T-shirt at Hot Topic and almost did a backflip out of pure hapiness(ask anyone).

I still were that shirt w/ pride.

I know this show is sadly forgotten often, but I plan to help bring it back. Every fan helps.

I'm not passing Greg's Ideas off As mine, he didn't even write this. And I'm just saying when i showed it to them, they weren't annoyed by it, in fact they liked it, really! I thought this would be something good to start but if i can't do it, fine!

Daniel, they've all told you NO! I am a fan, not a con staffer, but with my extreme respect for them and everything they do for our fandom, LET IT GO! Now I've told you no! (Not that it means anything.)

They want you to come to the con, but they don't want to ban you. You can't go around passing off Greg's ideas as yours and you can't get Frakes (if he were to come) to read a script.

Weird eh?

That is all I will say.

I should add that since Vado said he wants Volume 2 out by Comic-Con, they're probably anticipating all the usual printing/licensing delays and planning ahead. Vado also said he pushed the Bad Guys release back to August arbitrarily so as not to eat Volume 2 sales. I don't think an early release is going to happen. Let's just hope for a smooth, delay-free rollout this time.
Landon Thomas - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter feed]

This is the latest info from SLG on the release dates: http://slg-news.livejournal.com/332792.html

We don't know any specifics about the print run or Disney approvals this time but it seems the release dates are pretty well set.

Landon Thomas - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter feed]

@ Demonskrye: It might be (and I HOPE NOT) that shipping/printing takes a bit longer, and therefore it might be pushed back for 1 or 2 weeks.

Is there any word on how many are printed? I mean... we surely can make the print to sell out, right...?

RIGHT...?? óò

BTW, has anybody checked how the Garg-comics are doing on ebay? Have they become collectors items?

Brook
I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

Daniel> One point that seems to have been forgotten in all of this is that you never asked the author of this fanfiction for permission to print up his story and bring it to the voice actors to request that they read their parts. You just went ahead and did it anyway. If someone did that with something I had written, I would be horrified. Because when somebody is going around trying to get voice actors to read a piece of fanfiction, the usual assumption is that that person is the author or that his actions are condoned by the author. So if the voice actors or the convention staff gets annoyed, it's going to reflect badly on the author and he's going to have to go out of his way to explain that he had nothing to do with this whole plan.

I agree with Y2Hecate's advice. If you're talking with the voice actors and they ask "Hey did you bring that fanfiction with you?" just say "Sorry, I couldn't bring it." Don't bring it up yourself. I'm sure all of the voice actors are really nice people, but I wouldn't feel offended if they don't remember what you discussed at the previous Gathering or aren't too concerned about whether or not you brought the story with you. They're busy people and they meet and talk with lots of people at the Gathering. They may not remember everyone and everything that was said to them. It's nothing personal, it just happens.

King Cobra> I think it's still due for a July release, so the end of the month would be very ahead of schedule. It could be that your local comic shop misread something. I'd expect it in July unless SLG or Greg says otherwise.

Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

@ Patrick: "Brook, you probably should have mentioned that actors expect to be PAID when they agree to work on a project. A person can't just write up a "form" and thrust it at them for a signature. There's a lot more to it than that."

Yeah, that with the sig was just me saying "If you ain't got it all right and worked out, it's nothing."
With the paid part, that depends. A friend of mine is currently shooting his first full length motion picture, and he's working with zero budget. He's been very long in the business though, so most people are firends or 'admierers' of some sort, but some work just to put it in their bios or have a good 'product' they worked on and can show around. But yeah, this might be different with a-list actors.

Daniel Abraham Raviv,

Breaking my silence.

Daniel> I'm another Gathering staffer. You've been told no. Jennifer told you no. Patrick told you no. Karine told you no. Now, I'm telling you no.

We understand you, you are speaking clearly. Now, do us all a favor and please drop it. No apologies; no what ifs; nothing. We are working hard to put this convention together, and the last thing we need is to worry about you harassing our guests.

If you have a request for a panel or an event, the Gathering staff will take it into consideration. That being said, this here is not going to happen.

Yes, Thom is a nice guy. But he's likely going to have a busy schedule at the convention anyway. He's a great guest, and you'll get to enjoy his presence along with everyone else.

So if you come, enjoy the convention, and the events we're putting together and behave yourself. Do that and you won't have a problem. Break the rules, and you will be removed from the convention. We've gone twelve years without having to do that expel anyone from the con, and we don't want to do that. But, if you break the rules, we will.

Again, no explanations, no clarifications. Drop this. The request has been denied.

I hope I've been clear.
