Well, thank you for your answers and again for your advices, about the crystal ball don't worry I will buy it for you(I am jocking).
So thank you again and see you soon.

Brian <<what do you think, will be a good movie>>

I think that I cannot give an opinion on whether a movie will be good or not when it hasn't even been green lit yet, and as far as I know, they don't even have a script yet.

I also think that if the fandom does it's job, this movie will not get made and we'll hopefully get a movie based on our "Gargoyles" instead.

But if you absolutely need my opinion on whether this movie will be good, please buy me a crystal ball so I can gaze into the future and learn more about it.

Greg Bishansky - [<----- Make a real "Gargoyles" movie, Disney!]
Make a real "Gargoyles" movie, Disney!

Ok Mr. Bishansky, I will remember this too; in first commet I talked about the disney movie of the Gargoyles(we know it is not about the tv serie), what do you think, will be a good movie? And do you know by chance any news more than me about this movie?
Brian Bartoccini - [giovanni dot bartoccini at gmail dot com]

Brian Bartoccini (see, I took the time to spell your name correctly> It's Bishansky, not "Bisasky." If it gives you trouble, that's what Copy & Paste is for.

Thank you Mr. Bisasky, I will remember your advices, sorry for my mistakes both of my questions and my english(I am italian), I discovered this site since three weeks and I often don't go to Internet.
So I hope my english it is understandable, goodbye Mr. Bisasky and thank you again.

Brian Bartoccini - [giovanni dot bartoccini at gmail dot com]

So I've just this second noticed that, in the 'Other sites' drop down menu, one of the links is spelled 'Gargoyels Forum'. Can somebody please correct it?
Supermorff

Brian Bartoccini> As a rule of thumb, generally speaking, if you go some where on the internet, and there are guidelines very clearly posted, they're not just there for decoration.

BTW, you should have posted your Jon Canmore question here, because many of us could have answered it for you. Here, I am going to make an attempt:

***

Hello Mr. Weisman it is me again and I have an other question: in Hunter's Moon part 3 Jhon Canmore lose his mind after seen his brother dying (apparently), and then he swears hate and revnge against the gargoyles, but his brother in the end at last recovers his mind and he understand, thanks to Elisa Maza, the gargoyles are not their enemies, but I don't understand why Jhon did not the same thing too after seen his brother alive and all humanity saved from the virus that Demona created by Goliath.
Can you explain me that in detail?

***

Jon swore hate and vengeance against the gargoyles earlier in the episode. In his mind he felt that if he wiped the gargoyles out in the Clock Tower, Jason would still be alive... but, as usual, it's easier to blame others than yourself.

The same thing happened at the end of the episode, except on a much larger scale. Jon shot his brother, may have killed his brother. He couldn't accept that, so he projected all of his self loathing and guilt for that onto the gargoyles.

You see, Jason was a strong man. Strong in his convictions, strong in his hate, but strong enough to realize and admit that he was wrong, and change for the better. Jon, on the other hand, was a weak man. Too weak to stand up to his brother and say the hunt is wrong, too weak to even walk away, which would have been far easier. And finally, too weak to take responsibility for his own mistakes.

"What have I -- what have THEY done?!" gee, who does that sound like?

I'm sure he knows Jason is alive now, but the damage is already done. Maybe he didn't kill his brother, but he did permanently cripple his brother.

As for why Jon didn't change when he "saw" Goliath save humanity. Well, he didn't see Goliath save humanity. He didn't witness what happened in there. Maybe Robyn saved humanity. Maybe Detective Maza saved humanity. Maybe Demona's spell just didn't work. All that matters is that the hunt is not over, and his new friends in the Illuminati seem to be helping him continue it. In other words, never underestimate the power of self deception. It's what keeps Demona going.

Greg Bishansky - [<----- Make a real "Gargoyles" movie, Disney!]
Make a real "Gargoyles" movie, Disney!

Hi I am a new fan, how are you? Hey that guy named Bisasky had right I could not gave suggestions to Mr. Weisman, that is why my first two questions are been cancelled, I did not know I had to read the guidelines, well now I know that(about Demona in Holocaust too).
I know the Disney wants do a movie dedicate to the Gargoyles and they are not the same thet we know, that is absurd, Disney disgregards the tv serie and in my opinion it is very beautiful.
What do you think about this movie? will be a good movie(I hope my english it is understandable)?

Brian Bartoccini - [giovanni dot bartoccini at gmail dot com]

Considering that I wrote out most of the first appearances section in the gargwiki I'm really sucking at that characters quiz lol. One of those funny things-I'm good with listing things in the correct oder but I HATE doing it. Same with writing. Reminds me that the wiki summaries are not finished. Any takers? There's only a few more episodes to do and I've kind of lost interest for the time being.
Purplegoldfish

Greg X: Did I really put that?

...Oi vey, I did. XP

I had meant to put "Lord"...that is his correct title at the time of his death, right? Considering that Gillecomgain became "Lord Gillecomgain" after receiving High Stewardship of Moray, as evidenced by his wedding announcement.

I'm off to fix.

Wingless: Scooby-Doo has always been fairly cheezy. That's part of the fun.

But yeah, Welker's been voicing Scooby since the 90s film "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island" at least.

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!" - Roger Daltrey of The Who

Masterdramon - Actually, I wasn't aware Frank had taken over the role of Scooby. Not sure if Don did it from the beginning or not (There are even some sources that credit Mickey Dolenz doing Scooby's voice, but I question those). I was the biggest fan of Scooby for the first 2 seasons 1969 and 1970. This is when Scooby didn't regularly walk on hind legs and couldn't talk with an "S" - which I preferred. Things tended to get cheezy after that-from the "New scooby-doo Movies" onward(although most of his original traits were kept for those movies and it was still the original voice for Velma). But hey, it's a Garg chat-not a Scooby chat. Just amazes me how much voice work Frank Welker has done....and then there's his "The Totally Ridiculous 12 Days of Christmas" single(which I do have a copy of)
http://www.mkbmemorial.com/FWHp/12days.mp3
Maybe something fun for the garg wiki

Wingless

Masterdramon> Sorry to nitpick your characters quiz again, but Findlaech was not a king.
Greg Bishansky - [<----- Make a real "Gargoyles" movie, Disney!]
Make a real "Gargoyles" movie, Disney!

Wingless: Not to mention that Welker's been the voice of Scooby himself since Don Messick passed away.

Given all this Scooby-Doo talk, I'm wondering if anyone else here happens to be watching the new "Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated" series. As a lifelong Scooby fanatic, I've been enjoying this new take on the mythos immensely; the series features such innovations as season-long story arcs, frequent usage of in-jokes and meta-humor, a heavier emphasis on romance, and, for perhaps the first time, genuinely frightening monster costumes. Oh, and Lewis Black is in it as a regular cameo. :D

If you're an old fan of the original Scooby-Doo cartoons or any of the stuff that followed, I advise checking it out. It airs on Cartoon Network with new episodes weekly, and the four episodes aired so far are on YouTube if anyone wants to catch up.

Adam> Interesting. I might as well share one that added to the Star Trek section on GargWiki. Brent Spiner who voices Puck, as Data actually read a line from A Midsummer Night's Dream on an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation (Time Arrow Part 2). The line is "How now, spirit. Whither wander you?" which said by Puck.
Antiyonder

Adam - have seen that Scooby movie too and picked up on the voice right away. No mistaking it. ^_^ Of course you've got Frank Welker in there too as Fred(and who knows what other animal voices). Amazing to think he's been doing the voice of Fred for over 40 years now.
Wingless

Took all three recent quizzes. Got 100% on all but the quotes, where I missed two. Couldn't remember what Puck lived for. And Fang's pack of ... well, I wasn't specific enough.

I'm LOVING these quizzes. Not sure why, but they make me little kid happy. Thanks!

L.T. Williams

So I am watching Scooby-Doo and the Loch Ness Monster. And there is a character named Fiona on the show and she bares a striking resemblence to Molly from "Hound of Ulster". So I did some research and Fiona is voiced by Sheena Easton, who of course also voiced Molly. Just thought it was a weird coincidence that I thought to share.
Adam - [carl006_1999 at yahoo dot com]

Supermorff: I'm not entirely sure, since I haven't yet made a quiz with hidden answers myself. Best course of action should be to simply try doing so and then testing out the result to see if it does what you want it to do.

As for the one you missed, I just added
the singular forms of Tyrants, Strangers, and Losers
as alternate answers, per general Sporcle guidelines. Should have remembered to do that earlier...sorry 'bout that.

Masterdramon> So can you still put an extra clue in the third column, even if you put 'ee' as well? Does 'ee' have to go at the beginning of the line or something?

Anyway, I took the latest quiz, which was very good. I got 17 out of 18, only missing
Tyrants
, because I forgot that
it was a plural
.

Supermorff

Alright, I've got the SLG comic issues quiz up and running. Should be a piece of cake to most of the regular posters here, but I feel that it's necessary to make up for the unfortunate fact that I had to include TGC in my first quiz:

http://www.sporcle.com/games/Masterdramon/gargoyles_issues

Supermorff: Nice job! I've played both of your games and ranked them 5 Sporcle orbs. I tore through the quotes one in just under a minute, while I scored rather lower on the Star Trek one...mostly because I've never seen the series. I could name the easy ones like
Frakes or Sirtis or Spiner
, but I had a lot more trouble with the guest stars who played rather more minor roles in "Gargoyles."

As for adding spin-off actors as bonuses, you should take a quick read-through of this FAQ:

http://www.sporcle.com/faq_create.php

However, the short answer is you need to place an "ee" in the third column of your bonus answers, and make sure that those bonuses are the very last entries in your data sheet.

In any event, I enjoyed your quizzes, and look forward to seeing what else you can come up with!

Masterdramon - [kmc12009 at mymail dot pomona dot edu]
"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!" - Roger Daltrey of The Who

Still at it. Made another quiz for actors that have appeared in both Gargoyls and Star Trek (series regulars only). Shorter than I expected. I wanted to do bonus answers for guest stars but I couldn't figure out how.

Anyway, enjoy: http://www.sporcle.com/games/Supermorff/gargoyle_startrek

Supermorff

I got 18.
Adam - [carl006_1999 at yahoo dot com]

Supermorff> Ugh, I got 17 out of 18. The 17 I got I typed out without pause or effort... but for some reason I couldn't remember the exact adjective Fox used to describe Xanatos. I had a lot of guesses though... Ugh, kicking myself on that one.

Masterdramon et al> Well, in that case I decided to have a go myself and created a Gargoyles quotes quiz. It's a first try, and it's probably not very hard for most fans, but I thought it probably best to appeal to casual quiz-goers. Advice on improvements would be welcome.

It's recent comments like these that make you wish there were new Gargoyles episodes... the devotion of Gargoyles fans can not be rivaled... and that's just pretty damn awesome.
You guys rock, keep truckin.

Supermorff: Unfortunately, Sporcle does not allow you to add tags to quizzes; the system generates them automatically based on certain key words in your title, and "Gargoyles" is not used in enough quizzes for it to be a taggable term. This is why having more quizzes based on the series/comics is helpful; it increases the chances that the system will begin to recognize "Gargoyles" as a valid term to search.

...On that note, I think that I'll set up a quick quiz for the issues of the comic tonight. There are only 18 answers, so it shouldn't take too long. I'll post the link here when I'm done.

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!" - Roger Daltrey of The Who

Greg B> I have accepted your challenge and also taken the quiz again. All 200 with 4:17 to spare. I had some trouble with some of the comics characters, though, so I bet someone could do it even faster.

Masterdramon> Regarding the quiz, I'm not sure how sporcle works but is it possible to add tags to one? I did a search for 'gargoyles' but came up with nothing because no 'gargoyles' tags had been added. There is a popular 'character' tag too that would be appropriate. It might help people find it.

Supermorff

If a new Gargoyles comic came out, I'd like it to be pencilled by Greg Guler, Karine Charlebois, or Chris Jones, if it's going to be someone who has worked on Gargoyles before. If it wasn't one of them, I'd rather it be someone who hasn't worked on Gargoyles yet.

But...truth be told, I would read it no matter who does the art.

Gargoyles Movie - [Rebel (trying to help with Google bombing)]

Personally, I prefer one artist. But I don't mind mutliple artists if they all have the same feel them, like Gargoyles did (I am talking about The Ultimates in Marvel and Legacy in Star Wars). If/when new comics come out, they could use different artists for each story line. Like in CB2, have one artist do the first three issues and then someone else do the last three issues. That way we would get the same feel for each story line while enjoying multiple artists talents. Just a thought.

ps. Maybe we should sacrifice a goat or cow or something to Odin to get a new Gargoyles comic.

Adam - [carl006_1999 at yahoo dot com]

Was I the only one who enjoyed the variety of artists on the Clan-Building issues? Having one consistent artist would be nice (and Bad Guys came out beautifully for it), but I thought that the varying art styles demonstrated the strength of the stories of the Gargoyles Universe...that they could adapt to any medium of presentation, with each artist bringing their own unique take to the table (for example, Paniry's overdeveloped muscles that I thought were great in that particular issue at making Claw seem like a genuine physical threat, or Dunn's anime-style faces on the females that gave them more of a simple innocence in contrast with the males).

I tend to enjoy radically different art styles, as in my experience they tend to enrich the story rather than draw from it. The idea of a Galloway-drawn spin-off really appeals to me, because his style is exceedingly unique and the action flows well, making him a perfect fit for 2198. I've also always been interested in an anime/manga-style spin-off, though I'm not sure which one fits the concept best. Manga art has its own inherent strengths and weaknesses in comparison to Western art, and I'd like to see how Greg's stories would mesh with such a style.

This has me intrigued. Not to ingtrigued honestly, I ain't really confident in antyhing coming from this, but, if something did come from this, well, that'd be pretty sweet.
Ice - [lcetyrant at hotmail dot com]

Todd> I've seen the Twitter Demona make comments to Boom before about making a Gargoyles comic and never really get a response. That's why this stuck out to me. Boom went from saying nothing to actively responding in a way that would at least seem to suggest that they like the idea. And I tend to agree that a company isn't going to tease someone with the possibility of something happening unless they at least intend to look into it.

Algernon> After seeing Sean Galloway's possible designs for the 2198 characters, I really would like to see him on that spinoff. Of all the spinoffs, that's the one I most want to have a different look that sets it apart from everything else, something that reflects how separated it is from the other titles.

Demonskrye - [<---"Half-Hour Commercials" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

GREG B> "Greg Guler is and will remain my first choice. Karine is a second choice."

Those are really good choices but I'm going to court controversy and make a slightly left field suggestion: Sean Galloway. He'd probably be best for one of the spin offs which will need their own styles but after browsing his work on deviantart, I'd like to see him work on something Gargoyles related.

IAN> Greg Guler is and will remain my first choice. Karine is a second choice.

On that note, whether we get a new comic or not: which artist would y'all like to see bring Goliath and Co.'s latest adventures to life?

My two first choices: Karine Charlebois if we're going with someone that worked on the SLG series, or, if we're going for a Gargoyles virgin, Aluir Amancio (Superman Adventures, DCAU Storyboarder). Too bad he's been M.I.A. ...

The only thing I can say is this. If Boom Studios treats "Gargoyles" as well as they are treating "Darkwing Duck" then they're the perfect home for it. It would actually come out ON TIME, most likely as a monthly, and the art would be good and consistent. I'll always be grateful to SLG for giving us the previous comic series, but Boom would be a much better home for "Gargoyles."

Also, in my experience, most companies don't tease like that unless something is in the works. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and my eyes peeled.

Greg Bishansky - [<----- Make a real "Gargoyles" movie, Disney!]

Or they might be simply being polite - though it would be great if they really did come out with a "Gargoyles" comic book. I'll admit, though, that the BOOM! comic I'm anticipating more at the moment is the trade paperback version of "Muppet King Arthur" whenever it comes out; while I haven't read the individual issues yet (I don't get out to comics stores often these days), I saw some previews of them and they looked funny (plus, as a long-time Arthurian buff....).

New job means less time to haunt the CR, so I've just had the chance to check out Masterdramon's 200 character quiz: I managed a 147/200, or a 73.5% . . . so I guess I passed, but like others have pointed out, a couple of embarrassments in what was missing. For me that included:
Martin Hacker (gah!) Mary (Good Grief!! and I got Finella), Margot Yale (>_<), Maria Chavez, Al . . .
of the comics, I got a fair heap of them, like
Sangpo, Quincey, the Chungs, Thug, and Tasha,
but I totally blanked on folks like
SHARI (look away folks), Coco, Amp, The Director, Falstaff and Fleur. In just a few short weeks, we have reached a thousand members. This is great. If you're trying to think of something else you can do, one tactic to take is to get some "Gargoyles" product on the shelves. Currently, the comic book license is up for grabs, if you haven't read the previous comics, they are available in three trade paperbacks at amazon.com, and were published by the fine folks at SLG.

Currently, Boom Studios is publishing "Darkwing Duck" comics, and will soon be publishing "DuckTales" comics, as well as a comic based on "The Incredibles." They are doing a spectacular job, if I say so myself. So, let's all contact them and ask them to produce a "Gargoyles" comic book. Here's a link to a simple form to contact them online:

http://blog.boom-studios.net/contact/

Ask for "Gargoyles." Let's prove that there is demand for more product based on our defenders of the night.

Be passionate, but do not be hostile. If we get hostile, we're giving them every excuse to throw our letters away, and we cannot do that. Tell them if they are going to make a movie about "Gargoyles" to embrace the popular cartoon from the 1990's. Tell them there is a large fanbase that loves it. Tell them that there is a rich mythology and lots of great material that would make for a great franchise of movies. Tell them they shouldn't throw this away.

MASTERDRAMON> I kinda figured it the other way round since Greg confirmed that some characters will die in this series, at some point Zatara's might be killed and pass the mantle on to Zatanna. She might even start out as a temporary member of YJ before graduating to the "big leagues".

Jurgan: Funny man, eh? Well I've got a way of dealing with "funny men"...

In other news, this particular tidbit on AskGreg yesterday interested me:

Grant writes...

5) Why Zatara and not Zatanna in the Justice League?

Greg responds...

5. That will eventually become obvious.

Anyone else get the vibe from this answer that Zatanna will be dead in this universe? It would certainly be in line with Greg's clue, and it would probably make Zatara a lot more interesting. Certainly, he's not a character that has been played with much outside of the comic books, and this possibility certainly intrigues me.

I couldn't resist taking Adam's quiz after he posted it. It wasn't always easy to understand what I was being quizzed on, but once I got the hang of it, I did pretty well. I got 87 out of 99. I actually did get things like "blue beaked gargoyle" simply because half way through the quiz it became apparent to me that most of the information was a simple transference from the GargWiki. And since I wrote or heavily edited most of the clan and gargoyle pages (not to mention created the "Clan" page itself), I had a good basis of knowledge. Anyway, kinda disorganized, but that made it more of a challenge.

D. Taina: Congrats! :D

Adam: Good for you, sir. The more Gargoyles quizzes there are on Sporcle, the more likely it is that "gargoyles" itself will become an applicable search term, which is my ultimate goal.

All the same, I just took it, and I'd like to copy-and-paste this comment that I made on Sporcle (since the site cut off much of my message and removed the formatting):

Lot of elements that should be revamped here...I appreciate the effort and all, but this quiz is pretty much a mess right now. A few tips:

- Most importantly, this thing needs a MAJOR organization overhaul. There appears to be little rhyme or reason to how the Gargates are ordered besides a rough alottment by Clan and generation, and whether you want to do it alphabetically, alphabetically by Clan, by first appearance, etc., there needs to be a LOT less random placement of characters (particularly Nashville, who is currently quite out-of-place). It makes the whole think much more difficult.

- There are some characters that REALLY don't have any business being here. "blue-beaked gargoyle" and "red gargoyle beast" are the worst offenders; they can pretty much only be guessed accidentally, and as such are inappropriate for Sporcle. Stick to characters that, as very least, have Canon-in-Training names (so that's a no on "Hudson's mate" as well). Also, Taichi is already covered by Egwardo (and is misspelled to boot)...just use one or the other, and allow the entry to accept both names (same with Othello/Coldstone and his brethren). Plus, "Wyvern future" and "Camelot" are officially called "New Wyvern" and "New Camelot," so change them to those. And aren't the "cell" entries a bit redundant? They're all part of Demona's Clan anyway. Finally, "Olympian" is covered by "New Olympian"...there's no point in giving the Grecian gargoyles who first emigrated to New Olympus a name at this point, as Greg has not assigned them one yet.

- You need to be more lenient with your accepted answers if you expect people to experience more fun than frustration while playing this. "Paris" should be enough to guess "Notre Dame," "Queen Florence Island" for "Liberty," "Ireland" for "Irish," "Guatemala" for "Mayan," etc. Answers like "Zafiro" and "Delilah" should be sufficient to grab their 2198 counterparts as well; it's not like 2198 is actually in their names after all. "ChaxIxChel" is rather difficult to spell; I would recommend including something like "pyramid" or "Mayan pyramid" as an alternate answer.

- Finally, your "places" category (which is far too generic of a name; I only figured out that it meant "places where Clans can be found" when I accidentally stumbled on "Castle Wyvern") is incomplete. To fit with your list of Clans, it should include locations such as Mount Thanatos, the Labyrinth, Loch Ness, etc.

This quiz shows potential, but you need to work these kinks out as soon as possible if it is to be truly enjoyable. Good luck!

Aldrius: Maol Chalvim can be guessed (and I'm guessing this is how you stumbled on him, which was my intention) by entering his historically more emphasized name:
Malcolm, which should also net you Prince Malcolm and Malcolm Canmore to boot
.

Thought that people might be interested in a few statistics on the characters quiz, now that it's reached a fair 37 plays (the episodes one is holding steady at 46)...

- The only characters that have not been missed once are Goliath and Bronx. Yes, that means that at least one person did not enter Brooklyn, Broadway, Lexington, Hudson, Elisa, etc.

- Easily the most minor character to reach the Top 40: Jack Dane. No doubt the fact that entering "Jack" will give you him helped. XD

- Here are the Top 10 most-missed characters:

1. King Pelles (24.3%)
2. Jacob (29.7%)
3. Brother Valmont (32.4%)
4. Scota (32.4%)
5. Mariah Monmouth (35.1%)
6. Moses (35.1%)
7. Gathelus (35.1%)
8. Master Dawa (35.1%)
9. Sangpo (35.1%)
10. Quincy Hemings (35.1%)
11. Janus (35.1%)
12. Mr. Jaffe (35.1%)
13. Sleipnir (37.8%)
14. Bardolph (37.8%)
15. Cedric Harris (37.8%)

CHARACTER QUIZ> 189 out of 200.
Unlike most, I actually did remember Janus and most of the other humans. The only ones I didn't remember were Sangpo (got close though, I tried "Shangpo" or something), all the ones from Shari's stories (6 of those; I REALLY should have remembered Merlin), and I got Mail Brigti mixed up with his father, Ruaidri so I gave up on that. I missed Quincy Hemings and Sleipnir because I couldn't get the proper spelling. And lastly, Maol Chalvim, whose name I typed over and over and over and OVER--but apparently you NEED to put the "II" at the end of his name.

Looks like this quiz is pretty popular - Garg fans can't resist a challenge, it seems. To respond to a few of you specifically:

UncleDeadly: Considering that Max Loew is the guide of the Golem (one of Greg's "International Heroes"), Janus is his mentor, the Sturlusons are two of the only modern citizens of Norway who know of Odin's existence, Hiroshi is essentially Ishimura's Elisa, and Dr. Arnada is one of Nokkar's new guides to the modern world, I'm sure that all of them will reappear in due time in the canon.

Ed: I've added all of those as alternate answers now, as well as a few other misspellings that I think are reasonable.

Adam: Likewise.

Jurgan: Mail Brigti is Gillecomgain's father, and a close associate of Constantine's who later dies from Brother Valmont's rain of arrows.

And as for Maol Chalvim, you can get him (and several other characters as well) by typing in his more historically emphasized name,
Malcolm
.

Demonskrye: You're very welcome. Great work deserves recognition.

Greg X: Wow...you've now been to at least one Colbert and two Daily Shows? I am so intensely jealous now that I believe my blood is turning slightly green.

I forgot my quiz score. But the characters I have the hardest time with are the humans who appeared in one episode of the world tour and then have never been referenced (as far as I can tell) in Greg's plans for the future. the Lowes, Janus, Erik and Gunther, Hiroshi, Dr Arnada.

There have been times I've thought about dropping questions to Ask Greg asking Greg for any info of how these characters would continue to be important, but I assume "No Comment" or "Wont say at this time" would be the reply.

Otherwise, awesome quizzes.

JURGAN> Yep, Jon Stewart has a goatee now. I think it looks good. His wife, apparently, loves it.

I even asked a question during the Q&A. I was thinking of something hard and political, and then I asked something stupid, instead:

‎"If The Daily Show were a horror movie, who'd survive?"

Jon: Wyatt is black so he'd die first. Before the opening credits, actually. Samantha Bee and Jason Jones would die next because they'd be fucking and the killers don't like that. Next... would be Aasif Mandvi because he's brown. Finally it would be me and John Oliver, and everyone would naturally think I was the killer, but Oliver would survive because he'd be the actual killer. I've given this a ton of thought, as you see.

Demonskrye: Since I haven't had the occasion to before now, I'd just like to take this opportunity to note that The Ink and Pixel Club is easily my favorite blog-esque site on the internet right now. The depth to which you cover every single piece of animation that you review is simply amazing, with balanced, detailed coverage of every conceivable aspect of each work used to analyze exactly why it either does or doesn't excel at reaching its audience. In a world where genuine praise has largely been overtaken by fanboyish raving and genuine criticism by immaturely negative ranting, your site is a breath of fresh air for someone looking to delve deeper into just what kind of medium animation is - both the ups and the downs.

Your most recent review, which I just looked over, is a great example of this. "The Pebble and the Penguin" is, in all likelihood, an abysmal film (though I can't be 100% sure as I've never watched it and pretty much certainly never will)...but instead of mindlessly bashing it for entertainment value, you developed a lengthy discussion of just where the filmmakers went wrong with the characters, plot, music, etc., giving limited praise where it is due and otherwise explaining thoroughly just why this was not a well put-together movie.

I believe that my favorite article to date is your extremely thorough analysis of "The Blind Bandit," which so well manages to capture in text just what makes Avatar: The Last Airbender such a unique and enjoyable show. I don't know if you're particularly in the habit of doing follow-ups to your always superb "Why I Love Animation" articles (if you'd prefer to let them stand alone, I completely understand), but that's one that I would absolutely die to see a sequel to. Particularly if the episode in question was from the latter half of Season 3, when the storytelling structure changed significantly as the epic neared its magnificent conclusion.

Anyway, all flattery aside, I just want to thank you for sharing these delightful musings with the internet community. We fellow animation enthusiasts appreciate it tremendously.

MASTERDRAMON - I knew that the new head of the production team, Eric Lewald, had worked on the animated "X-Men" series, which helped lead me to the same suspicion that he might have been thinking of the gargoyles' plight in terms of the X-Men's. (Besides the abandonment issue, I can't help suspecting that Creed's parents being both notorious mutant super-villains couldn't have helped mtters.)

And that is a sad note about Len Wein's role in inflicting E--n P-x upon the world.

Todd Jensen

Todd: The existence of mutants had been public knowledge for a fair while before the Friends of Humanity cropped up; its founder, Graydon Creed, was in large part motivated by his hatred of his mutant parents (Sabretooth and Mystique), who abandoned him after birth.

And given that, if I remember correctly, TGC utlized several key members of the X-Men: The Animated Series writing staff in its own production team, I think that it is indeed very likely that those same writers used anti-mutant sentiment as a baseline for constructing the public's reaction to gargoyles, given the surface similarities between the themes of the two shows. They were extremely short on time and so such shortcuts allowed them to bypass the copious amounts of research that would otherwise be required to understand the Gargoyles Universe. And unfortunately, quality suffered tremendously.

Interesting (though rather off-putting) fact that I learned while delving into connections between TGC and X-Men: apparently notorious stinker "...To Serve Mankind" was penned by Len Wein, co-creator of such characters as Swamp Thing and Wolverine, writer of the 1970s series that revived the X-Men from relative obscurity, and editor of Watchmen.

Yeah...take from that what you will.

Masterdramon - [kmc12009 at mymail dot pomona dot edu]
"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!" - Roger Daltrey of The Who

I've sometimes wondered whether much of the portrayal of the Quarrymen in "The Goliath Chronicles" might have stemmed from the new production team thinking of them too much in terms of, say, the Friends of Humanity in "X-Men". A hate group acting against a minority which has been known about for years (apparently - I'm not enough of a Marvel Comics expert to know how soon after mutants became public knowledge the Friends of Humanity were formed).

What I think the new production team had overlooked (at least, most of the time) was that the gargoyles had just been revealed to the world. All that the general public knows about them is that they're living gargoyles and seem dangerous. From their perspective, it's not a minority family moving into the neighborhood; it's an eruption of strange and frightening creatures. So at this point, a lot of people will be feeling terrified and vulnerable - and banding together might seem the one certain way of protecting themselves.

I think it possible that some decades into the future, as the public find out more about gargoyles, the Quarrymen might become a step closer to their "Goliath Chronicles" counterparts, at least in the sense that the ordinary frightened citizens might be convinced enough that the gargoyles are not a threat that they would see no reason to belong to the organization, leaving only the diehards. (Not that I see said citizens as accepting the gargoyles; it could be more an attitude of "We still think they're creepy, but they could be useful in keeping nocturnal crime at bay, and can't handle muggers or burglars if they're locked away in cages somewhere".) Though even then, I think that Castaway and his successors would keep the Quarrymen from going to "Goliath Chronicles" extremes.

If the new production team *were* thinking of the gargoyles in terms of, say, mutants in "X-Men", that might also explain their assumption that everyone would know that the gargoyles were intelligent beings and not mere savage beasts.

Hey all! Just finished up the final touches on the Gargoyles character quiz! Be warned: this is a gruelling, 20-minute marathon featuring a grand total of 200 characters, many of them somewhat obscure. Should be the ultimate test for any true Gargoyles trivia nut:

http://www.sporcle.com/games/Masterdramon/gargoyles_characters

Most characters can be guessed through both their last name and their first name, as well as any applicable pseudonyms. Guessing a name or psuedonym shared by multiple characters (for example,
Maza or Xanatos
) will net you all of them at once.

Please give me your thoughts after playing, and let me know if I missed anyone!

Got a question I want to ask Greg W. but I am going to run it through here first. I would like to ask why Greg hasn't said anything about Brookly and Katana's potential third child (just kidding, I know he wouldn't answer that). Actually, I have a couple of questions about Knight's Spur. We know that Knight's Spur is a large home with a lot of land around it. But do the members of the London clan feel safe spending the day in the woods? I know it is private land, but people do trespass. I wonder if the leader (both Una and past leaders) have a policy about members of the clan spending the day at Knight's Spur? Also, Greg has said that humans work at the Into the Mystic shop, but do any of the humans live with the clan at Knight's Sput. Let me know if these are some questions worth asking Greg. Thanks.

The recent "Ninja Turtles" series managed to have its own "Future Tense"-type episode, complete with a character death similar to Broadway's, and by its fifth season, the series was arguably more violent than "Gargoyles"--and yet the writers couldn't quite manage to freely say "kill" or "die", and couldn't show any blood. The whole thing can be quite inconsistent. Still, whatever the standard Greg ends up operating under, I'm sure he'll find the best way to deal with them.

I think the last real human ally Demona had was Macbeth. She's still happy to work with humans when it suits her, but I don't think she sees them as anything more then pawns to be manipulated the disposed of once they've outlived their usefulness. I've no doubt she would have betrayed Canmore if he hadn't beaten her to it, or that she planned to turn on Xanatos from day one, or that she would have put a laser blast in Fang's back once Goliath and co. were all dead.

Did the Quarreymen ally with her? She was only in one TGC episode, but I'm pretty sure they were planning to betray her from the very beginning.

P.S. Jon Stewart really has a goatee now? I haven't seen it, and I'm kind of afraid to. It sounds really strange...

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Currently standing on line for The Daily Show. Gonna be a long wait so I thought I'd check in.

Demona allying herself with the Quarrymen never much bothered me. I thought that was in character and there is canon precedent. What DID bother me was the Quarrymen allying with her. I do not believe for a minute that Castaway would ally with the demon. The demon killed his father, after all.

Heh. very long line here. Jon Stewart, I luv ya man.

Izu: Interesting thought. By any chance was the game Final Fantasy IX?
Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

I think you're right, Rebel, which is why I call it one of the most irrational (hell, downright suicidal) decisions from someone who's not very rational at the best of times. But then that leaves open the question of what it would take to get her to ally with another human. Would she have to simply be overwhelmed by emotion?
Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Woah. I think I finally get what Hudson was saying in Gargoyles about names. Before I just figured he was being silly so Greg could do that cool name thing. But I was playing this game with this chick who is a princess, but she changes her name to something else early on for a certain reason, and actually ends up having a different real name then what was originally thought. I started thinking "Whatever, the alias was just an alias, and her second name was her real name anyw-" and then bam, all of the sudden I realized that names are just something we added on to ourselves, like how Time isn't real, we made up the whole "Oh, it's 11:40 PM" stuff, we just tried to name as much of time as possible with numbers and such
I just needed to get that out, and none of my friends are really into Gargoyles.

Izu - [lcetyrant at hotmail dot com]

Jurgan > She may not have teamed up with Canmore because she felt he would have a change of heart regarding Gargoyles. I suspect the main reason why she teamed up with him rather than just taking her clan into hiding was because she felt that MacBeth had betrayed her, and she wanted to betray him back. Teaming up with MacBeth's enemy would be a greater betrayal than mere desertion. She wanted to give him a taste of his own medicine.
Gargoyles Movie - [Rebel (trying to help with Google bombing)]

It's always a question of how far Demona will work with humans to achieve her ultimate ends- sometimes she will, and sometimes she won't. A lot of people criticized Demona in The Goliath Chronicles for teaming up with Quarreymen (and an ill-defined assassin who may or may not have been a card-carrying Q-Man), but there was a precedent. Demona joined Canmore, who was loudly proclaiming that all gargoyles should be destroyed, just to spite Macbeth. That was certainly one of her most irrational decisions (and that's saying something). Why didn't she just lead her clan to hide in the wilderness and let Macbeth and Canmore wear themselves out fighting one another? Did she think Canmore would continue hunting her kind down after he dealt with Macbeth, and by joining forces he could convince her to spare them? If so, that was unusually naive of her.
Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Fang was a human given gargoyle-like characteristics. And Demona recruited his help in her war on the Manhattan Clan. I doubt she trusted him, liked him or would've kept him at her side forever, but I also doubt she would've recruited him at all if he had looked like an ordinary human.

I don't think she'd consider such creatures gargoyles either (while they're given "gargoyle-like" characteristics in "The Scourge", they're clearly a different set of "gargoyles" from those in the animated series - though it's also indicated from the previews and interviews with the writer that the infected humans change mentally as well as physically).

Incidentally, I was pleasantly surprised to see one comment on an article about "The Scourge" saying "Sounds like an evil version of these guys", followed by a poster of one of the covers to the "Gargoyles" comic book series, showing Goliath and his clan awakening from their stone sleep. Almost as much a delight as all the comments on Disney's proposed gargoyle movie of "Why don't they make it based on the series?" from a few weeks ago.

Todd Jensen

Todd: I doubt Demona would even consider such creatures to be gargoyles. We saw she didn't really consider the transformed humans in The Mirror to be true gargoyles, and in this case I couldn't blame her. If we saw apes catch a disease that made them lose all their fur, walk upright, and madly attack others of their species, we wouldn't consider them humans (we might use the word "humanoid"). Basically, you're talking about zombies, or possibly vampires depending on intelligence level. I think Demona would simply see it as a convenient way to kill off humans- sit back and let them do the work. On the other hand, if she has more foresight, she might realize that this new species might be just as bad. She won't consider them gargoyles, but she might not consider them humans either, and consider trying to ally with them to help wipe out the rest of humanity. I think she'd still think of them as humans- she seems to think what you are is the most important thing (human or gargoyle, that is, as opposed to who you are personally), and she doesn't see such a thing as a fundamental change. She still considers herself a gargoyle, after all.

Greg B: Happy to do it. It'd be nice, though, if you'd check your own blog occasionally. I've tried to start conversations in the comments a few times and never gotten a response. Just a suggestion.

Masterdramon> I think Gargate works well enough. You can just say "her DNA is 90% gargate". Don't need to say gargolean or whatnot. We don't say "her DNA is also 10% humanean" afterall.

And 10% is a lot of human DNA just for cosmetic appearance (and voice apparently), but much of that DNA is probably similiar or identical to gargate DNA anyway.

Grief> I think it would've been difficult to show this. I mean someone would've needed to wounded in such a serious way as to make it life threatening, but not to actually die. And Jurgan makes a great point about what happens after Anubis is released. Does the wound heal then or does the victim only succumb after that point?
From the episode itself we see that Anubis can't and/or won't bring someone back from the dead, but he can rechannel life energies. Thus he was able to move Hyena, Wolf, Goliath, Angela, Bronx and Elisa to the correct ages because they were still alive. I think it might've been cool if one of the travelers (maybe Elisa or Angela) was seriously injured in the fight and would've died had not Anubis not been trapped. At the end of the episode, Anubis heals the wound just as he re-ages everyone else. Just a thought.

And for the record, it seems Anubis isn't so much in control of life and death as he is in control of time. He managed to kill Coyote, who isn't alive just by making him rot to dust and the cars and the town and all that shouldn't be able to "die". Anubis just pushed them into decay. Anubis seems to be able to move things forward and backward in time to some extent. Of course, this same thing happened to all the aged characters too.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned coming across an upcoming comic book series or mini-series (I'm not sure which) called "The Scourge", in which Manhattan is overrun by a plague that mutates humans into gargoyle-like creatures, which then run about trying to infect others with the plague in order to increase their numbers (the transformation is as much mental as physical). It's easy to imagine what Goliath and his clan would think of such a comic book series if it came out in the Gargoyles Universe, or what Castaway would think of it. But I wonder how Demona would respond to the concept.

Obviously, judging from "The Mirror", Demona doesn't want to see humans turned into gargoyles (her indignant words to Puck about it show that she'd see it as an undeserved promotion). At the same time, I wonder if she'd find some amusement in the spectacle of humans being metamorphosed into something else, now hostile towards humanity (or at least, bent on turning uninfected humans into creatures like themselves who would no longer be human), wiping themselves out (in a sense) in a violent rampage.

Daniel: Yes, that is indeed who I am talking about.
Jet's
death was quite possibly the best-written one I've ever seen in Western animation, if simply for its subtlety. It's one of the main reasons why "Lake Laogai" is one of my single favorite episodes of the entire series.

Speaking of which, were any fellow Gargoyles/Avatar fans reminded of the Magus' death in that scene? Both cases feature
a largely unsympathetic character from Season 1 returning in Season 2 just long enough to change virtually the entire fandom's opinion of them before dying via heroic sacrifice
.

That's really interesting. I hope they give Greg enough leeway for his work. I could ask Greg about his S&P person for Young Justice when I wake up...but... I think I'll enjoy being surprised when the episodes air more-so. ;)

Oh yeah, I also remember in Avatar when
Right after Zuko joined Katara basically said that she'd kill Zuko if he even hinted at betraying them. That along with Combustion-man dying in the same episode.
Good stuff. Can't wait for the new series. :D

By the way, in your spoilers, are you talking about
Jet?
That's the only one I can think about right now.

"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." (Psalms 30:5)

I've had a thought about "Grief" for a while, and the alternate version of the story Greg wishes he'd told, so I just submitted a comment to Ask Greg. I'll post it here also, in case anyone wants to discuss:

"Not a question so much as a comment. You've said several times you think you missed a bet in "Grief-" namely, that Coyote should have killed the travelers, to show that death was impossible with Anubis locked up. I may be in the minority on this, but I prefer the story we got to this alternate version.

First of all, it would reopen the Highlander-esque questions that you get regarding Demona and Macbeth. So, Angela's shot through the heart but doesn't die- when Anubis is freed, is the wound still there? If so, would the wound then kill her? If Goliath were decapitated, would the head still talk, or would it sprout spider legs and walk back to him (sorry, I just watched The Thing the other night- incidentally, Keith making a surprise appearance in a movie is something that always makes me smile)? I imagine that, if only for S&P reasons, the death would simply be through bloodless laser beams (sorry, "particle beams") and the issue wouldn't have come up, but it's still confusing.

The bigger point, though, is that it cheapens the characters' abilities. I've read most of the Lee/Ditko and Lee/Romita Spider-Man comics, and while they're great stories, one thing that always bothered me was how supervillains always let Spidey live. Typically, a new villain would dominate the wallcrawler and then arrogantly announce "I don't need to kill Spider-Man- I can beat him any time I want!" I don't have a count, but I really think this happened dozens of times in the Silver Age. I could understand if the villain had a reason to run, like Doc Ock's power running low in your show, but most of the time they just seemed stupid, since of course Spidey trounced them next time. The point is that it seemed like he was surviving more through luck than any particular skill. Likewise, our gargoyles have survived countless battles because of their own abilities. To say that they finally lose- but it doesn't count because, for this one day, they can't die, seems to cheapen their earlier successes. It feels like the only reason they're winning is because the writers want them to win, and if they get in big trouble, a deus ex machina twist will save them. The show starts to feel artificial, and I wonder if these characters are really that special, or if they're just the designated heroes.

Now, of course, this is hypothetical. It's possible that, if I'd seen the episode the way you envision, I would have loved it. But as it is, it's kind of hard for me to imagine it working. Just something to chew on."

Jurgan - [jurgan6 at yahoo dot com]

Daniel: Well, it depends on the S+P executive; some are extremely understanding of context and dramatic effect, while others...not so much. But the one on Spectacular Spidey evidently allowed Greg to use the word "murdered," and Batman: The Brave and the Bold (which airs on the same network as Young Justice will) is allowed to show violence and use words like "kill" and "die" quite liberally.

And even when things can't be done or said explicitly, a good writer can still get them across quite vividly; Hell, the writers of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" managed to depict
the on-screen murder of a teenager by an older man, cleverly crafting the scene so that while the actual death wasn't explicit, any older viewers would immediately understand what happened
.

As for the Delilah query, Greg has stated in the past that her DNA is approximately 90% gargatian (do we have a proper adjective form of "gargate," or will this do for now?) and that she is definitely capable of laying a gargoyle egg. Beyond that (and the fact that she experiences stone sleep), we don't know a whole lot of how her genetic makeup actually breaks down. Elisa's aspects appear to be entirely aesthetic on the surface, but 10% is quite a lot in DNA terms and so there may be some side-effects that are not so immediately obvious.

It certainly does interest me...though not [I}quite as much as it clearly interests Sevarius.

In the quiz...I....uh...got...well....you see....^^;...I've only gone through the whole show once and...I mean...I'll do better on the characters I promise! -__- (i.e. mind freeze)

ANYWAY, I was just wonder about something I was thinking about asking Greg. In his future tense ramble, Greg mentioned that today's S&P would balk at the notion of someone dying like Broadway, so I gotta wonder, what's it like dealing with S&P now, especially considering that Greg plans for a character to die in his Young Justice show?

Lastly, one final question for the room that I'm sure has already been covered: Since Delilah is mostly gargoyle DNA, she lays eggs like any other gargoyle, right? Does the human DNA effect her in any way other than her appearance?
