Ross> Indeed. I'm looking forward to hopefully getting mine sometime soon as well, but I'm hardly impatient for it. Another project funding I was involved in has been dealing with some serious entitlement issues among the supporters...when exactly ONE guy has to handle all the shipping himself, alongside a job and medical issues.

Patience is key for these sorts of things.

Greg Weisman> No problem at all! I've contributed to kickstarters before, I know things can take a while to get out.

I'll drop a Christmas present for the CR. I've written a new fic... been years since I wrote this one. And, GASP, Demona is actually NOT in this one. But yeah, Algernon, Chip, Masterdramon, Brainiac, etc have consulted, and some of us are now writing in a shared universe. All my previous Gargoyles fics are still canon to that. But this time I decided to play with Brooklyn.

Sorrows to the Stones

A TimeDancer story. Brooklyn arrives in 9th century South America where he discovers a lost Roman colony, and meets the beautiful leader of a fallen gargoyle clan. Has Brooklyn finally found true love? Brooklyn/OC

Ross - You're welcome. Sorry it was so late getting to you.

Earlier today I received my signed copy of the Rain of the Ghosts audio play, which I had completely forgotten I had pledged enough for! Thanks for the surprise Christmas present, Greg!

PBS aired a program last night called "Shakespeare Live", a commemmoration of Shakespeare held in Stratford on the 400th anniversary of his passing. ("Live" might not have been the most accurate description, since the commemmoration took place on April 23, eight months ago.) It included scenes from many of the plays, including the scene from "Macbeth" where Macbeth's just murdered Duncan and is horror-struck over his bloodied hands (as I watched it, I thought again of Greg Weisman's "Weird Macbeth" idea and hoped that we'd someday get to see it - and found myself imagining Demona and Macbeth playing that scene) and the Titania-and-Bottom sequence from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Judi Dench played Titania). It also ended with another scene from "A Midsummer Night's Dream", the fairies' blessings at the end (Judi Dench playing Titania again, David Suchet as Oberon, and the hosts - David Tennant and Catherine Tate - delivering Puck's "If we spirits have offended" speech).

It wasn't all solemn, either - apart from including some of Shakespeare's more comical moments (not just Titania with Bottom, but also one of the Falstaff scenes from "Henry IV Part One"), they did a skit where everyone's debating what word to stress most in "To be or not to be, that is the question", with everybody having a different idea of which word to give most emphasis to.

So I stumbled on an article about reincarnation in Irish Mythology...

http://www.irishcentral.com/roots/ancestry/did-our-ancient-irish-ancestors-believe-in-reincarnation

One passage in particular stood out to me...

"A similar story is told about the birth of Cuchullain. Dechtire drank a cup of wine in which a mayfly had landed. That night she was visited by the God Lugh in a dream, who told her that the mayfly was him, and that she would soon give birth to a boy child. When she awoke, he transformed her into a swan, and took her to his halls in the Otherworld, where she duly gave birth to Setanta, She returned with him to Emain Macha in Ulster, where he was raised, and went on to become the hero known as Cuchullain.

The biggest difference to the Etain story, is the presence of the god Lugh. It implies that not only did the deity father a son on a mortal woman, but that he was actually reborn as his own son, thus manifesting himself again in the mortal world."

This is slightly different than the version of Cu's birth I'm more familiar with, where Lugh simply whisks Dechtire off to the Otherworld and eventually returns her to the mortal world once she's ready to give birth.

One version states Cu is simply the Demigod son of Lugh ala Hercules, while the other implies Cu is actually Lugh's mortal incarnation.

Given the role reincarnation plays in Rory's backstory, I wonder which version is closer to the truth in the GU?

I guard your death

I'm in here every day, mostly lurking. I love it here. I've made some of my best friends here. I don't want it to go away, just because we're having a slow week.

If you've ever taken a road trip through the Pacific northwest, you've probably seen a bumper sticker for a place called Gravity Falls. It's not on any maps, and most people have never heard of it. Some people think it's a myth. But if you're curious, don't wait. Find it. It's out there somewhere in the woods. Waiting.

I was at a comics store a couple of days ago, and spotted a couple of the old "Gargoyles" action figures there (one was Lexington; I think the other was Xanatos but can't remember). Most likely "vintage toys". (No, I didn't buy them.)

MATT> I'm pretty sure the Comment Room will endure as long as Gorebash wills it. The #WeLiveAgain and now #WeWantGargoylesComics hashtags are gathering steam on Twitter. So there are still plenty gargfans out there, they're just not here for some reason.

Even though I'm TENTH, I'll second what Brainiac said.

Even though the Comment Room is not what it once was, that could change. Talking about disbanding it is pessimistic. And anyway, various people over the last decade have predicted the death of this Comment Room over the last decade and here we still are. One of the few websites I've consistently visited for half of my life. It'd be a shame to see it go.

...bah. Still ninth.

Anyways, as to the discussion about room validity, I've never had a problem with certain weeks being, well, weak. I recognize I'm probably in the minority there, but I just like the thing being here as a draw for fans. If it's quiet, so be it, but at least it's still here to offer a place of solidarity (and a place for any new converts to come talk with the old guard).

On the NINTH day of Winter's Veil, a murloc brought to me...

nine murlocs dancing,
eight dwarves a-drinking,
seven naga swimming,
six dragons a-laying,
five legendary rings,
four *BLEEP*ing elves,
three vrykul horns,
two turtle mounts
and a raven in a bare treeeeeeeeeeeeee!

For an even better session of Winter's Veil music, in "Yule Log" form and in honor of Murky, the "greatest" character in Traveler (*snicker*), just follow the link below. And may Greatfather Winter have mercy on your soul.

Eighth!

I check the comment room often, but I rarely have anything to add. I just enjoy keeping up with the fandom.

Two fours, so I'll claim seventh!

I check in regularly, but don't often have anything to post. I wonder how many others lurk without posting.

Fourth, I guess?

TODD> 'Tis sad but unfortunate. I'm not sure what the answer is. I wonder if newbies get intimidated/put off by the countdown?

Algernon

I guess this makes me fourth.
How much content goes into the comment room really does vary from week to week and that usually depends on our personal lives and if there is anything to talk about. With a new season of Young Justice coming out and hopefully another book in Rain I'm sure we'll have more to talk about in the future.

Plus it's always nice when Greg pops in.

SEASON 3! WOO WOO!

I still check the room now and then, although I don't always have the time to post or anything especially to post about. I also check into the TGS room although that's in a much sorrier state, beset by spam-bots.

I'm more optimistic about "Gargoyles" with the interest from Joe Books but I can't now see the property ever having a major revival. Perhaps if the "Ducktales" reboot really takes off they'll look at other Disney Afternoon properties and perhaps give a shot to 2198 but that seems like a very long shot. Then again, YJ3 seemed a long shot too. (While YJ is probably my least favourite of Greg's endeavours -- I just don't find the DC characters very endearing or interesting -- I'm really glad he's had some good fortune at last).

I'd love to see "Rain" back too. I'm hoping to have some time over the holidays to read Greg's Warcraft book too. I have o knowledge of the franchise but hopefully it'll still make sense.

Ed

Second.

I've been wondering if it's worth the effort to keep the Comment Room going. There are so few of us left that it takes most of the week just to do the countdown, and we've practically run out of things to talk about. And, with the first "Gargoyles" cinestory book being constantly postponed, that doesn't seem likely to change in the future. I suspect that most of the people who used to frequent this place have drifted away, and even those still here find it harder to contribute than they used to. The third season of "Young Justice" might give the room a mild revival - though for that to fully work, we'd probably have to rename it the "Young Justice" comment room and replace all the "Gargoyles" avatars with "Young Justice" avatars.

But for now, the room just isn't going to be the lively, bustling place it once was. And I wonder how much longer even this straitened version will last.

Guess the Room was also knocked out last week . . . someone get the paddles!
