Oh, and to be helpful, post it on fanfiction.net and be done with it.

And before anyone else says I'm being mean: Greg Weisman already responded to this guy with:

"You can try to ask Disney.

But on principal, I'm not going to encourage you. Personally, I'd prefer you write something based on your own creation and publish that... as opposed to piggy-backing on something of mine."

I need help from all the Gargoyle fans out there. Everyone wants the return of Gargoyles and in some ways, weLve gotten our wish. We have season one and half of season two on dvd. Comics are coming out and we're pressuring disney to make a movie about OUR gargoyles. I have written a novel, the first in a planned series of 12, starting from the day after the clan saves a train full of people, the last episode. I need help getting permission to get it published. I need support

I have started a facebook group about this, ahem "movie." If you have a facebook, please join. Please encourage your friends to join.

Spread the word!

If you don't have a facebook, it's easy enough to get one. We need as many people as we can get.

But, more than that, we need to MAKE NOISE!

This goes beyond spreading the word about the DVD's or the comics, the entire property might be at stake here.

So, make noise, and don't shut up.

Yeah, I'm still here. You know that the room has died when I didn't even point out that June first was the CR's twelfth birthday.

Wow! This was my favorite cartoon when I was younger and through a random search for something completely unrelated I found this site. This is amazing!! I can't wait to read the series posted here! And I will definitely have to look up the comics. Thanks for creating this site and for keeping it going for 10+ years!!

I will have to look for those!! Thanks for welcoming me! :) I am glad that I know other people who love this show as much as I do! :)

Samantha : Hello, and welcome to the room! Always nice to get some new faces around here. Incidentally, have you read the new (ish) Gargoyles comics? They were written by the series creator, and were, in my opinion, an excellent continuation.
Spen

So, I totally love this show, I miss it terribly and I am so glad I found this site!
Thank you SOOO MUCH! I <3 you! The only time I ever got to watch it was when I go to Disney World and watch Toon Disney in the morning. So thank you again and I am going to be watching this like 24/7 now! <3

Has anybody seen/heard from Guandalug la'Fay in the past 2 years? It's a shame that the gfw has been abandoned, but I wonder what it's purpose is now that we have the gargwiki.

Hello all. I just came by and saw two years of posting since the last wipe. Not much is going on with me,other than I start classes at the end of this month, and am settling in NYC nicely. It is hard to imagine that I spent the majority of the last decade in the Army. I'm out now and ready to use the new post 9-11 GI Bill, but I'm on disability so I didn't leave the Army entirely in one piece, but Uncle Sam is looking out for me, thanks to the American Legion.

I hope all is going well with you guys.

I am sorry if my last post was too... [_____]
I just really like Lex and Future Tense, though an excelent episode was a very concerning experience. I don't know about the rest of you but now i can't shake the feeling I'm gonna see Lex portraid as something he simply isn't and should not be. I'd like to know if anyone agrees btw.

Ado

Okay, here's he thing. i was just reading timedancer and enjoying it a lot but about halfway through the second chapter there was a mention of Lex's fate and how Brooklyn would want to change it and I cannot let this slide. There are many things in the episode Future Tense can stand with in the real thing but not that. Lex is the kindest little garg and I don't think I'm the only one who'd be very unhappy if the events in future tense concerning him are anything more than a scary vision. I realise it is unwise to post on this before finishing the story but I sure hope that bit was designed to scare people and not hint at what comes next. Cyber-Lex is a fantasy, he will never be evil.

Hi. I'm a longtime Gargoyles fan who's been drawn back to the websites and fandom thanks to SLG's comic series. Have not read much of the work here on TGS yet but I am intrigued.

The main reason I am here though is to spread the word to fellow fans that The Initiative Show, a pop culture podcast that I am involved with, has set up an interview with Greg Weisman for our next episode. Gargoyles, the comics, and The Spectacular Spider-Man will be discussed.

The show can be found at www.theinitiativeshow.com. When a release date for the episode is determined, I will let everyone know. I hope you will check it out.

Through the 20th Century, a team of four has been assembled for a Black Ops team unlike any other in history.

The Guardsman : ageless paladin knight.
Cyrus Salem: immortal shrinking wizard.
Kitty Lazarus: woman warrior in a cat's body.
Ariel Vibria: modern dragon with a tortured soul.

Separately and together, these agents will face down an immense evil, with the fate of the world itself possibly in the balance, rising above their differences and individual traumas together to face Sheol, a demonic matriarch hiding within one of the holiest sites in Europe.

Is being the Guardsman worth the sacrifice of childhood Ken Sharpe made to be the paladin?
Will Cyrus continue to shrink throughout history?
What purpose does the Hindu god Durga have for Kitty?
What will happen if the secretive government project that produced Ariel comes to search for their missing experiment?

Do they stand a chance in hell against Sheol?

"Normalcy is so overrated"

Greg B: After looking at your list of "do not touch" directors, might I inquire of your opinion if Neill Blomkamp ("District 9") directed? Myself, I picture a possible similar "cinema verite fantasy-realism" style, only instead of using documentary footage it would include television newscasts exclusively. Would be an interesting take on the subject matter.

Lynati: The author will certainly appreciate your comments.

For those not in the know, "Gargoyles, Clan Building: Volume Two" is available now on SLG's website. It will be available in stores this coming Wednesday.

I've got my copy, and it rocks...

We learn many secrets about the Illuminati.
Brooklyn goes on a ... voyage.
We finally see Demona again.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

"Gargoyles, Bad Guys: Redemption" will always be available this coming Wednesday. The adventures of Hunter, Dingo, Matrix, Yama, and Fang. Drawn by our fandom's own, Karine Charlebois.

Our fandom's own Robby Bevard (former artist and writer for TGS) colored "Gargoyles vol. 2" and did some toning work on "Bad Guys."

Robby even had the honor of designing a character the fandom has been anticipating since... 1997. And he did an excellent job.

And, to quote Greg Weisman, spread the word! We need every sale we can get, because, well... I want more, and I'm sure you want more.

Greg Bishansky

Well Greg, since you asked so nicely, film is my career as well. I am trying to get into film editing, and am currently writing this from an internship in the industry. I agree with you on big budget, blockbuster films being crap, and the HIM/ME dialogue you just quoted pretty much killed my soul.

As for the Cohen's, I'll admit that not all of their work is drug-trippy, but that was my impression regarding "Burn After Reading," their most recent film to date. Parts were funny, and other parts were like a downward spiral into madness. If that's your thing, that's fine, but it's far from how I would picture a Gargoyles movie feeling.

As far as film-viewing credentials go, I have seen roughly 90 of AFI's top 100 films of the past century. I didn't like Gone With the Wind or 2001, and while wasn't impressed by Citizen Kane, I did appreciate it at a technical level. I love Casablanca, It Happened One Night, On the Waterfront, and Schindler's List, and opted to buy each of these films. I also appreciate Miyazaki and Kurosawa's works, and while Bergman isn't my favorite, I was impressed by the Seventh Seal.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, lighten up. Yes there are idiots out there who don't know what they're talking about, but I thought I had worded my opinion in such a way that it would be clear that I'm not one of them. We're on the same career path, so how about we walk it instead of fighting over it?

Edit Death

Greg X> This belies my ignorance about the movie industry professions. I'm just saying as you get yourself established and experienced, you may be involved with the movie if no one beats you to it.

I have noticed there is a downside with all the great effects and technology in movies. With all of our advances, plot and character development gets sacrificed, and sadly the market doesn't mind.

The late Moustapha Akkad had the Halloween series which were his fund generators, but he could use his earnings to produce movies like The Messenger and The Lion of the Desert.

Lynati> I am glad you like my parody.

Thomas Forsyth - [tmlforsyth at gmail dot com]

LYNATI> I understand what you're saying, but how many movies in the genre are good? This is just my opinion, but I can only count a handful.

"Gargoyles" was all about the characters first, and the action second. That's one of the reasons why it was so different. And I'd like a director who would go for that. I just don't trust most blockbuster directors to do it.

As for Edit Death's comment. I just get into the movie argument so often, especially since graduation, that it just annoys me. I mean, and I'm not sure what his/her background in movies is. But I so often see good, talent directors get panned by the "common man" while a hack like Michael Bay makes a lot of money that it gets to me. This isn't just a hobby and interest to me. It's my career. It's my lifestyle.

Barry Levinson, director of masterpieces like "Bugsy" and "Good Morning Vietnam" wrote this piece that I, sadly, agree with.

I have been reading about the Academy of Motion Pictures changes for the coming Oscar telecast. What seems clear is that the changes are basically about achieving higher ratings and appealing to a younger audience demographic. I thought I'd ask one of the so-called treasured demographically enhanced viewers what they thought of the Oscar changes. I will call him, "Him."

HIM: I thought the changes was cool. I mean 5 best pictures is not enough. Everything should be 10. I mean Letterman has his Top 10. There are all those Top 10 lists. Not 5. 5 is dumb.

ME: What about dropping the Thalberg Award and Jean Hersholt Award from the telecast?

HIM: Don't care. Too many old people getting awards. It's yesterday. Who cares what they did. What about now?

ME: Any other changes you'd make to improve the telecast?

HIM: I'd get rid of Best Score. Soundtracks are dead. And if they have melodies, it's lame. It's all about the sound. Big sound.

ME: Would you keep Best Foreign Film?

HIM: Noooooo....Don't see them. Never have.

ME: What about Slumdog Millionaire?

HIM: Yeah Good.

ME: Well, that was a foreign film.

HIM: Was it...? But it did win Best Picture.

ME: True. Ever see an Ingmar Bergman film?

HIM: Yeah. There was this girl I knew. And she made me watch one. I thought the DVD got frozen. It was on one shot for soooooo long.

ME: Any other changes you'd make?

HIM: I'd get rid of Screen Adaptation. I mean, just make it writing. Writing is writing. I don't care where it comes from.

ME: What about Film Shorts?

HIM: I make them on my phone. Did about 40 so far this year. Great category.

ME: You ever see any of the film shorts?

HIM: No, but it's good to have because it makes the Oscar office pools more interesting. Because nobody ever sees them. It's the wild card of the night, you know? Along with the Best Foreign Films. I don't think I've ever even seen them play anywhere.

ME: How often do you go to movies?

HIM: Maybe twice a year.

ME: That's all?

HIM: Yeah. You can get most of the new pics on DVD the first weekend. I mean, somebody's always selling them. 5 bucks. And the sound is better than it is in most theaters. Theaters have shit sounds a lot of the time.

ME: So you get bootleg pictures?

HIM: I guess...it's convenient.

ME: Do you think that's fair to the studios and the artists involved?

HIM: I pay for a good product at a reasonable price. That's all I care about.

ME: I'm curious, who do you think is the best actor so far this year?

HIM: The guy from Up. Fantastic.

ME: But he's a cartoon.

HIM: That guy was great. Hard to beat that actor. I don't care if he's real or not. Acting is acting.

ME: Since you are the key demographic that advertisers go after, what's your favorite commercial?

HIM: Um...hard to remember any. Maybe the one with the talking lizard. But I don't know what it's for.

"Him" is a fictional character, to the best of my knowledge.

***

It's sad, because it's true. I don't know what happened, but once upon a time, the highest grossing movies were also the most critically acclaimed. Then the great movies became films for much smaller audiences and film buffs, and mostly, stupid movies became the top grossers.

There are exceptions, of course. "Dark Knight", "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" and some others.

But when "Revenge of the Fallen" makes nearly a billion dollars, I just shudder. It's the worst movie since "Batman and Robin".

Thomas Forsythe> No, I will not be directing any "Gargoyles" movie. Or any movie, for that matter. I am not a director. I can't direct. That's not where my strengths lie. I write. I produce. I'd like to think I'm a good enough producer to spot and work with great talent.

Greg Bishansky

GregX: Yeah, and Peter Jackson went from Meet The Feebles to Lord of the Rings. I'm not saying that people aren't capable of a wide variety of good work, or that it's not possible for me to be pleasantly surprised by someone who's never done work in a similar genre. But someone who *has* a standing history of strong work doing films similar to what I'd want to see in a Gargoyles movie would still be higher up on my list than someone who'd never done anything of the type.

And can we please refrain from such inflammatory commentary as "clearly you have no idea what you are talking about" when someone presents their personal opinion in an open discussion? I know it's a lot more polite than your usual phrasing, and I appreciate that, but how would you like to be told such a thing when stating your opinions? What would your impression of that person be? Just think on that; I'm not asking for an actual reply.

GB: Heh. Those were funny. : )

Dezi: Heyla! How've you been? And I don't think lain is currently reading here, even if she wasn't preparing to move across the country in like, a week.

Lynati

Dezi> Thank you.

GregX> Clint Eastwood isn't one I'd think of, but he is pretty good. Maybe you'll direct the Gargoyles movie.

Thomas Forsyth - [tmlforsyth at gmail dot com]

LYNATI> See, this is where we disagree. I've noticed that a lot of great genre movies were made by people who have never previously worked in that genre.

Here are two examples.

Bryan Singer never made fantasy or sci-fi before making the first two X-Men movies. What did he make "The Usual Suspects" and "Apt Pupil"

Although, I think Singer took a nosedive as a director after X-Men 2. "Superman Returns" and "Valkyrie" were abysmal.

Christopher Nolan, no one would have ever figured him for Batman. His prior films were "Memento" (great movie, btw), "Following" and "Insomnia"

And I like them because, prior to their comic book movies, they weren't blockbuster directors. Because, blockbuster directors tend to mostly suck.

Would you want a blockbuster director anywhere near "Gargoyles"? I would not. I'd want a story director with a blockbuster budget.

That's where the best genre films come from.

And trust me on this, I've studied film, I've studied the work of many of these directors.

So, who do I not want anywhere near a "Gargoyles" movie?

Steven Spielberg
Michael Bay (Transformers)
Steven Sommers (Van Helsing, The Mummy, GI Joe)
Tim Story (Fantastic Four)
Brett Ratner (X-Men 3)
Uwe Boll
George Lucas (Star Wars)
Roland Emmerich (Independence Day)
M. Night Shyamalan
Paul W. S. Anderson (Alien v Predator, Mortal Kombat)
Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil, Ghost Rider)

Would you want any of these people directing "Gargoyles"? I would not.

EDIT DEATH <<While you're right about their range, most of their stuff still comes out looking like a bad drug trip.>>

Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about.

On the other hand, another director who I think is good at getting to the heart and the soul of a project. This one would never do it, but if he said yes, and giving him the right budget, I'd love to see Clint Eastwood do it.

"Changeling" was terrific
"Grand Torino" was fun
"Million Dollar Baby" was good
"Mystic River" was a masterpiece

It could work.

Greg Bishansky

Ooook. I peek in here sporadically, and I KNOW I've peeked in here this summer and some how I didn't see ANY of the message preceeding, like, August. How did that happen? *confused* Still glad to see the sudden spark of life though. Still confused as to how I missed it all. Hi Lain! Hi Lynati! Happy belated Birthday Baron!
Dezi

Gargoyles movie director (or maybe I'm think producer, please correct me if I am mixing up terminology) and results (this is taken in sarcasm):

Mel Gibson...story would be good, but have an even worse bias than I did about 12-13 years ago, and Goliath would self-flagellate over the Clan's loss.

Austin Bay: Lots and lots of explosions, probably by Demona and MacBeth. No real plot line.

M. Night Shamalyan> Ishimuran Gargoyles made to look more European, and major plot twist where Demona uses the phoenix gate to wipe out humanity from Stone age, but Cavemen switch to Geico and stop her. Instead her attacks cause humans to have nightmares of Gargoyles for generations to come resulting in the hateful feelings.

George Lucas> Makes cutesy prequel about the adventures of Hudson; remake edits out laser blasters with walkie-talkies. Avalon sends skiff to Endor

Roland Emmercih> Major natural disasters, somehow engineered by Demona and Sevarius, and all major cities are destroyed. This could work for the Gargoyles Future series if aliens cause major destruction.

Martin Scorcese> Would be excellent but focus more on Dracon crime family and feature Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci in awesome roles, and Broadway tries to stop rival gang from shooting Joe Pesci but fails

Oliver Stone> Another excellent movie, but more emphasis is given on Matt Bluestone trying to expose all his Conspiracy Theories via inside information in the Illuminati.

Hopefully I don't step on any toes, as I am just being silly, and let's have fun

Thomas Forsyth - [tmlforsyth at gmail dot com]

Thank you, Spen.
Thomas Forsyth - [tmlforsyth at gmail dot com]

Yeah, I think you want someone who has proven they are good with the fantasy/sci-fi element as well as balancing the whimsical with the serious. None of those movies scream out "whoever did this should do Gargoyles!" It's not just finding someone good, it's finding someone suitable to the style and the...well, the ambiance of the original show. Because that's the heart of what you're trying to recreate, even if you want give it a little bit more of an edge or such.

And we've had a birthday? congrats!

Lynati - [Lynati_1 at hotmail dot com]

Happy birthday, Green Baron!
Spen

I have a hard time seeing the Cohen Brothers do it. While you're right about their range, most of their stuff still comes out looking like a bad drug trip. Nothing against them, it's just their preferred style, and one which doesn't really feel conducive with the spirit of Gargoyles.
Edit Death

Has Shyamalan made a good movie since "Sixth Sense"? I don't think so. He has become the "HOLY SHIT! CHECK OUT THAT TWIST!" guy. And his twists don't make sense anymore.

If I had to pick a director for "Gargoyles." I'd want someone who respects the material first. Now, obviously things get changed in the adaptation process. Different mediums have different expectations. But, you need to respect that material first. Don't make a change just to make a change, but give it a bit of a face lift.

Tim Burton is definitely not the guy either. I'm afraid he'd turn it into his own S&M fantasy like he did with Batman.

Though, actually, Chris Nolan would be an interesting choice. But I'd rather he have time to keep making Batman movies. He does them well.

Actually, if I had my choice. I'd pick Joel and Ethan Coen to direct it. They are among the best in the business. They can do both artistic and commercial movies, and they always put the story first. Team them up with Greg in a producing role, and I think it'd be gold.

"No Country For Old Men"
"Fargo"
"The Big Lebowski"
"O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
"Raising Arizona"
"The Man Who Wasn't There"

They have a lot of range. They are not one trick ponies. They are talented enough to win Academy Awards without being Academy favorites.

Yes, I think the Coen Brothers could do it.

Greg Bishansky

I've been significantly less than impressed with Shyamalan's recent works, and what I've seen of the Avatar movie gives me precious little hope for it. That's aside from the fact I was in the audience at NY Comicon two years ago when the creators swore that the movies were going to be a continuation of the world and in no way a re-telling of the animated series...and then six months later, they announced the opposite. Way to raise our hopes way up high before dashing them down onto the pavement. : P

Now, if they'd given Shyamalan free reign with the story of, say, Iroh's venture into the spirit world, and possibly Koh the face-stealer, THAT I could see totally working. I'm going to see the Avatar movie despite my impressions of it so far, because it may yet surprise me. But I'm not holding my breath.

Lynati - [Lynati_1 at hotmail dot com]

I definitely agree about the current blockbuster trend. More often than not, big explosions spell big bucks. I'm also trying to get into the industry, but I'm doing so with a slightly different attitude. If possible, I'd like to change the trend by coming up with and working on projects that have more quality. Consider the craze when Schindler's List came out. I'd like to repeat that.

As far as Gargoyles movies go, I think we all hope for a good one, but it'll depend on the writer and director that pair off on it. I'd hope for Weisman writing, because anyone else will exaggerate the traits of the characters, resulting in a loss of the depth that draws many of us to the franchise. I don't know about directors, though. Burton would be interesting, but I don't see it as his current style. Shyamalan is another possibility, but I'd like to wait to see how Avatar turns out before making any judgments there.

Regardless, though, it would be pretty cool.

Edit Death

I'd prefer a quality movie too, believe me. When it comes to movies, I'm very discriminating. Extremely discriminating. But, most of the general public is, sadly, not.

I am playing devil's advocate here.

Look at "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." That has to be one of the single worst movies Hollywood has ever crapped out (It's "Twilight" for males!). I hated the first one, but at least the first one attempted some kind of narrative. Note the keyword, attempted. But this one took everything that was bad about the worst movie and amped it up. The first movie is "The Godfather" in comparison.

And yet, the movie is, sadly, kicking ass at the box office. A lot of terrible, special effects blockbusters kick ass at the box office. The general, movie going public doesn't care if a movie is well written, well acted, or well directed. I mean, how else do you explain something as terrible as multiple scenes of dogs humping (Michael Bay does that in a lot of movies), Devastator's wrecking ball testicles, and don't get me started on the racist, illiterate, black face Autobots.

I'd prefer a good movie also. Believe me. As much as I want to work in the business, I don't want to work on summer blockbusters like "Revenge of the Fallen" because I cannot, in principle, take part in the further dumbing down of the movie going public. Unfortunately, that movie going public eats this crap up.

Transformers 2 (a crappy movie): Worldwide: $703,435,893

There Will Be Blood (a masterpiece): Worldwide: $76,181,545

It's the unfortunate nature of the business in this day and age. And I find that very sad.

But, if a movie comes out, even a bad one, and it sparks interest in the property... well, even before it hit the theaters, that last DVD would likely come out just to coincide with it. And we might get a chance for new, Weisman written material. A small price to pay.

All that aside, I'd love a great "Gargoyles" movie, with a decent script... preferably penned by Weisman and maybe Michael Reaves. And a good director. Definitely not someone like Michael Bay (hack!) but I'm not asking for David Lynch either (although, that would be interesting ;))

Aw well, I'll leave this link. Fanboys send hate mail to Roger Ebert for his terrible review, and Ebert responds in kind.

Like me, you like quality story telling, so I think you'll enjoy this:

Greg Bishansky

I'm sorry, I just think if the movie was terrible that it wouldn't open the door- it would slam it further shut. The movie would flop, the fans who attended would complain, and there'd be no incentive for any company to throw good money after bad with another continuation in any form. Such a reaction might in fact show up Gargoyles as a property that clearly had gone the way of the Dodo.

Now, a movie of some quality? That would more likely lead to a different story.

Of course, the media industry HAS proven that something doesn't have to be good to sell, just marketable, so who knows. But given that the Gargs fans tend to be older than the usual age group that cares more for the fluffy toys over plot, it still doesn't seem likely that a truly bad movie would lead to a positive outcome for the property.

Lynati - [Lynati_1 at hotmail dot com]

LYNATI> <<And with all the horrible movies made based on other media from my childhood, I'd rather have no Gargoyles movie than a horrible one.>>

Actually, I kind of side with Greg Weisman on this issue. I think it was Coppercon, he was asked what his thoughts were on a movie, especially if that movie screwed it up.

Greg said that he'd like to have a movie out there either way, bad or not, just to bring attention to the property. He thinks it would get us that final DVD set we're waiting for, and raise the profile of the comic books.

The whole "there's no bad publicity" mindset and all.

I agree. If a terrible "Gargoyles" movie opens the door for good "Gargoyles" stories under Greg's direction... it's a small price to pay.

Greg Bishansky

At minimum, when those we are left do decide we've had enough of the project and can't find anyone else willing to help out/take over, we are going to post the "what was supposed to happen" for the planned out but unwritten seasons of TD 5, DA 3, Gar 5, and Bad Guys 2 and 3.

And wow, is it nice to see that people do still care after all this time. Thanks, guys. ^_^

...while I'm here, anyone out there who is interested in actually helping out with either breaking down outlines or actually writing, send me a writing sample and specifics on what aspects/characters you particularly want to work on.

Keep the faith, Alex. They just updated the main pagefor the first time since I first started reading, which was back when I was in High School (currently 25). They've started up new momentum for the site, so who knows what could be added next.
Edit Death

I recently discovered this website and devoured half of season 1 and all of Timedancer in a month. Since it's been 7 years since the last Timedancer post, I assume it's safe to say that the cliffhanger will never come to pass; way to end it like Reboot. Nonetheless, it's a compelling story that's been started, occasionally with some excellent writing. I'm thoroughly impressed with what was there, and also with the overall drive to continue the series, one of my favorite to this day. Luckily the rest of TGS awaits me. In the meantime, I feel a need to read a story that actually has an ending. How frustrating.
Alex - [HutManiac at gmail dot com]

They *started* to make a Gargoyles movie a number of times, back when the show hadn't been off the air for almost 15 years. They punted it because they couldn't get a decent script, among other reasons. And with all the horrible movies made based on other media from my childhood, I'd rather have no Gargoyles movie than a horrible one.

Also, lobbying got us the first DVD, but they won't release Season 2 part 2 because it didn't sell well enough. If they don't think the money is there, they aren't going to put more into what they think is a losing deal. That's why they pulled the Atlantis animated series before it was even officially aired.

Okay here's how you spread the word to a lot of complete strangers outside the Gargoyles fandom.

First of all if any of you are going to any other conventions outside the Gathering this summer like the Comiccon or what ever con go to this site http://www.gatheringofthegargoyles.com/g2009/ go to the "Help Spread the Word!" part and print out fliers then copy those fliers and when you go to the convention go to people ask them if they are a fan of Gargoyles. Then pass out the fliers to them.

Go to lines and crowds. Ask them if they have the DVDs, comics whatever... and if they don't, tell them about Gargoyles and to buy the DVDs, etc... they can help support Garygoyles for future DVDs of Season 2, Volume 2, Live action Movie and more to be release.

Also ask them if they can attend the Gathering in August if they're in the California area and have no plans, tell them to tell their freinds and family, make your own fliers if you want to.

Second if any of you has a Youtube account and camera, make a video blog telling people about Gargoyles and to support them. Tell them about the comics, Gathering and the DVDs and if they don't have them then ask them to buy them to help support the Gargs. Urge them to spread the word too like you did.

And if you have accounts on Social Sites like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter or others to spread the word there. Ask them if they have the DVDs or whatever and if they don't move on, were only interested in people who don't have the DVDs and don't know about Gargoyles.

So if there is any one on this board who doesn't have the Gargoyles DVD sets please buy them. We need a Thousand units to be sold and a lot of people at the Gathering. If anyone else has any other creative ideas and ways to spread the word besides what I listed? Please tell us.

Support Gargoyles. The time is now.

***** TGS CR INFO UPDATE *****

My CR Information section has come a long way since the days of its infancy. It has grown too large and bulky for the current needs of the forum. So I made a few tweaks here and there throughout the CR Information pages. I omitted unnecessary wording, outdated information, and information that no longer applies to the current state of the comment room.

- The Development section was renamed to Miscellaneous.
- The Requests page was moved to the Miscellaneous section.
- The calendars from the CR Members' Profiles section were replaced with a single page featuring a simple list of birthdays, anniversaries, gatherings, and premieres of the television show, TGS, the CR, etc.
- The broken link to a website DPH's profile was corrected.
- Hyperlinks of CR Members' email addresses were removed from each profile page.
- Several statistics pages for the Members section were deemed unnecessary and deleted.

I might make some more changes because I still think some of the pages and material within CR Information can be condensed and refined.

CHANGES TO PROCEDURES:

Member Profiles:
I am not currently accepting CR member profile submissions. During it's popularity, this section quickly became too much for me to manually update. Automation via server side scripts would have greatly helped ease this burden, but Fire Storm didn't get very far in the coding. I presently see no reason to tackle this for two main reasons: (1) I haven't received any profile submissions or edits in a year (and only received two edits the previous year), and (2) there isn't enough participation in the forum to warrant this.

If you need something changed in your existing profile, just send me an email.

If or when I accept new CR member profiles, I will probably scrap most of the qualification guidelines.

CR Images and Forum Features:
I am putting development of these features on hold, indefinitely. Due to the diminished participation (involving the number of commenters and the frequency of posts), I believe the images and features currently available are sufficient.

NOTE:
Keep in mind that everything is continuously evolving. If participation in the forum picks up and demand for images and features increases, especially if or when new TGS stories and artwork get published, then the CR Info section will be adjusted accordingly.

LYNATI (and whomever is interested):
I am not completely satisfied with the design of the beta pages for the TGS website. I have some concerns over the complexity of my CSS coding and the layout and graphics used for the website. I believe it is possible to have more streamlined code and a more modern web design that may be easy enough for any TGS staffer to update or augment, since I know I will not always be available (the past year is evidence of that *L*). I don't want to implement the beta design only to update it again soon after, so please be patient.

Hi Todd!

It's great to hear from you. I remember working with you on a number of projects. And of course I remember that you were a core member of the breakdowns team in the days when I was writing. 'Spirits of the Vasty Deep' is a particularly good memory, as it was my first story with TGS. Good luck publishing your children's book series. Will you publish it under your own name? I'll keep an eye out for it.

Hi, Anna. It's been a while since I posted anything here, but thanks for stopping by. I remember how you wrote "Spirits of the Vasty Deep", based on the outline that I wrote; I was particularly delighted with your addition of Morgana's "might-have-been son", which added some poignancy to the story.

I left TGS at the end of 2003, and have been working on other things, including a series of children's fantasies that I hope to get published soon. (The protagonist is a young Merlin, but he's not much like the rejuvenated Merlin of TGS.)

Again, thanks for stopping by.

Todd Jensen

Hi Ed,

What an incredibly nice thing to say. Thanks so much for that.

I didn't know about the comics -- so thanks for that information, too.

I didn't follow TGS into its last seasons -- although I did read quite a few of the Timedancer stories after I left. I'm trying to read through a few of them now, and I look forward to reading yours.

Anna

Anna Hansen - [anna111222 at live dot com dot au]

Hi Anna.

I'm glad you did stop by. You won't remember me, but I was a fan of TGS back when your stories ran, and was on the staff myself some years after you, during the last 'Pendragon' season. You wrote or collaborated on some of my all-time favourite TGS stories. 'Menagerie' in particular I've always considered one of the real triumphs of the project.

Incidentally, you might not have heard but the creator of 'Gargoyles' is now continuing the series in comic form, which is as excellent as the show. There's some info up at http://www.gargoylescomic.com/

Congratulations on your marriage, child and career and if you ever write a book or anything, be sure to come back and plug it. I for one would be really interesting to read more of your work.

Ed

Hi! I'm sorry for intruding. I've never posted in the comment room before. But many, many years ago, I was a writer on the TGS staff. I had to leave due to pressing life commitments, and I never really returned. Now, I'm a bit nervous about posting. A quick scan of comment-room posts shows that staff members' memories are incredibly long. I do recall heated debates about the direction of story-lines; I also remember getting a bit heated myself. But I don't remember the details. Nevertheless, I hope I didn't put anyone offside when I was a staff member, as I'd dearly like to know what everyone is up to.

I have fond memories of working with Todd Jensen (whom I see is still here -- hi Todd), Aaron Ziegler, Stephen Sobotka, Rahsaan Footman, Jonathan Cotleur, Shauntell Holm, Patrick Toman and Beth Mashburn. And I think Greg Bishansky and I were on staff at the same time, although I don't think we worked together on a story.

I'm sure most of you wouldn't remember me. I was on staff for such a short time and, as I'm from Australia, I've never attended a gathering. But I wanted to take the opportunity (while some of you are still here) to let you know how much I enjoyed working with you all those years ago. The energy, generosity, and sheer devotion of so many of the writers, editors and artists is an inspiration to me, even now.

I also wanted to thank those staff members who are still working on TGS. I'm amazed that this project is still running.

My own life is so different now to what it was back then that I hardly feel like the same person. Since the comment room seems fairly quiet, I'll offer a quick summary. (Even though by now most of you are probably mumbling to yourself, 'Who the *beep* is this chick?') Married, child, university post as a medievalist. (Very different from the single, childless, computer programmer I was back then).

Thanks for listening. I'd really like to know what former staffers are up to, if anyone knows.

Seriously, if I were a member of the Third Race with the power to influence the time stream, I'd put it to more amusing use, such as violating the non-interference law. If one were strong enough to influence the time stream, they'd be strong enough to get away with violating their master's edict.

The only reason that I'm not saying directing the Gate to a certain point in time is not direct interference is because whether or not the person at the other end picks the thing up is still their choice.

And why Prospero? Seems to me your "theory" could use any old sorcerer. How about Gandalf the White? Or Jambey from Pee-Wee's Playhouse? ( ;

Happy birthday, Gunjack!

I do find the idea appealing that somebody would try to create currents in the time stream in attempt to force the Phoenix Gate to appear at a certain place and certain time. That given, I realize that any such attempt would requires lots of energy, knowledge, intellect, and patience. That being said, last Saturday, I took the occasion to watch a live production of "The Tempest". Even though it was performed on a single stage, I thoroughly enjoyed, even much more than a video I had previously seen of "The Tempest". I have no doubt that Prospero could possess the latter 3 requirements, but with regards to meeting the 1st requirement, gathering the energy, I see it being problematic in the ancient world. Still I doubt even with modern technology, one could gather enough energy to be able to create even a small ripple in the currents of the time. Unless one had multiple devices capable of storing vast quantities of magic and the means to recharge those devices, I deem it impossible. So much for that means of bringing Prospero into the Gargs universe.

Maybe he's referring to the character from the Poe story? ( ;

Just remember what happened at the end of "Future Tense." It implies that the Gate needs a mind to provide an end point. No sentient mind serving as an anchor = no way to connect Point A with Point B. I think the ending also seems to imply that you actually need to be physically holding it, too.

Vinnie's query reminds me of John Bellairs' "The Face in the Frost" (which I highly recommend to everyone here, incidentally), where the protagonist is a wizard named Prospero, but he's not *the* Prospero. (The author makes that clear in the first paragraph.)

DPH-Theories are not spoilers or possibile spoilers. If you had posted. "Hey I have an interesting theory." Then people might not be giving you as mush of a hard time as now.

You are also indicating that Greg Weisman might use Prospero to control time or create the gate or whatever. As the others siad before not even Oberon can manipulate or change time. If even someone with that much power can't alter it, then neither a human wizard could do such a thing.

and we are pretty gobsmacked on where you got the whole Prospero idea from.

Spacebabie

Ah the things that drag one out of lurkdom...

DPH-> Dude, you are trying to anchor something that cannot be anchored like trying to catch an idea with a bug net.

From the link quote of Greg W you provided there is no hint or suggestion that ANYONE has contol over time. More so that the gate is simply a vessel that rides the currents the shifts and prevailing winds that are beyond the understanding of mortals.

In a way you are trying to materialize something that is much more interesting as an unknown mystical force. Like the Force in Star Wars the moment they claimed the Force was actually little bugs that whisper in your ears the magic is ruined.

If you wanted to use any basis for a possible controller it would have to be an Elder God or "I am" again beyond the understanding of any mere mortal.

DPH> Nothing you are saying makes a lick of sense. Not a damn thing. How on Earth did you arrive at Prospero of all characters? Have you ever read or even seen "The Tempest?"
Greg Bishansky

DPH : And where does it say that said currents aren't just a natural part of the timestream? And even if they are artificial, why jump to the assumption that they would have been created by Prospero? I do sort of understand where you're coming from, but I just don't think it sounds quite right.

As for Sevarius, I don't see anything in particular that would point to him being an Iluminatus, but then again, nothing against it either. And I probably would not have believed you if you told me that Thailog was a member. It's just that, I personally think that adding Sevarius tips the balance between members and non-members a little too far. I mean, a society with 666 members, and six of them happen to be cast members of some sort? It kinda seems like overkill to me.

In the end though I'd say that, regarding both theories, Billy Joel probably sums it up best; "You may be wrong, for all I know, but you may be right."

http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=7742 <- In the gargoyles universe, there are currents in the timestream. I'm thinking there might be a way for a person to create currents in the timestream as a means of forcing the phoenix gate to show up at a specific place and time. This has nothing to do with altering history at all. Granted the energy requirements would be great, but I'm not saying its impossible.

gxb - It has nothing to do with tgs, I assure you. I thinking about Greg Weisman's statements that are currents in the timestream that carry Brooklyn to various points. I was thinking about possible sources of those time streams. A thought occurred to me that what if somebody was responsible for creating currents in the timestream. The thought occurred to me it might be Prospero and a motivation might be to force the phoenix gate to appear at a precise time and place. That idea had nothing consciously to do with anything that I know about in the tgs universe.
dph_of_rules
http://tgs.gargoyles-fans.org/trivia.php

DPH> Given what we know about the Gate, I disagree. Where did this theory originate from?

As for Thailog, you can't compare. Would I have believed it, maybe not. But it's not so far out there that it is completely unbelievable. Your bit about Prospero is, and has no basis in Shakespeare's original play either.

How did you arrive at this theory?

Greg Bishansky

gxb - What part of my theory says history is being changed? Reading between the lines are we? My theory goes that Prospero gathers lots of energy to create current(s) in the timestream to force the Phoenix Gate to show up at certain places of his choosing. That has nothing to do with altering history. It's all about attempts to bring the gate to a specific location at a specific point in time. That doesn't involve changing history, but rather trying to account for what we know exists.

If I had told you that Thailog was a member of the I Society 5+ years ago (assuming it wasn't revealed at a gathering), would you have believed me?

dph_of_rules
http://tgs.gargoyles-fans.org/trivia.php

Dude, what part of "time can't be changed" is troubling you? In Shakespeare's play, Prospero was a wizard. We have seen no wizards powerful enough to manipulate time. Oberon isn't even that powerful.

Greg has never even hinted at such a thing.

As for Sevarius, I doubt he's a member of the Illuminati. He may work for members, but that doesn't make him one. Again, the Illuminati is a SECRET society.

Greg Bishansky

gxb - I'm looking for simplicity. Adjusting the currents of time would require energy and skill. Making it Prospero who tries to do it adds simplicity to the universe.

The other thing I am pondering is if Sevarius isn't a member. Given the revelations we've had on who's a member, it almost seems likely that Sevarius might be a member.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

I quite liked that TGS considered S&P, though I was never really aware of any real restrictions beyond common sense. Sure, the comics are more explicit, but TGS was taking its lead tonally from what went before. There's plenty of explicit fanfic out there, some of it excellent, but to me TGS was about creating a sense of verisimilitude. Plus, the show pushed the envelope all the time (Demona's attack on Gillecomgain being particularly violent) so there wasn't a lot that cropped up which seemed wildly out of bounds.

I do tend to think that violence should have some greater purpose than being violence for its own sake. Thailog can take Claw's wings, but what does that mean for Claw? For Thailog? Demona's attack on Gillecomgain was pure chance, pure hate, but a millennium down the track its consequences are still in play. I think Greg Weisman plays with that expectation in the comic too. Thailog stabs Goliath is shocking -- but of course, we should realise that Thailog could kill Goliath any time he likes. There's a smarter play.

There's a risk with fanfics of these kind that violence becomes the end in itself and being challenged to justify that violence with respect to the characters and plot strikes me as a useful exercise. So the logic of S&P, it seemed to me, was to provide that "context check". Of course, that's not to say it always, or even chiefly, worked like that. I never read an "it's too mean" type response, thankfully.

I don't know I ever read that Tamora scene except perhaps in outline. The big, big, big concern that jumps out at me isn't the fairly mild sexual theme at all (there's a moment near the end of 'Aladdin' at least as twisted), but: "He suddenly realized that out of the few Persian gargoyles he had met he had yet to find one iota of nobility in any of them". Within the scene, it feels wrong to me as a character beat for Goliath to extrapolate his experiences to the rest of the Persian clan without having met most of them; and within the broader context of the series, it's a flaw with the Persian clan which feels simplistic, stereotyped and untrue to the spirit of the original.

Still, it's all a long time ago. I got a kick out of the series as a reader, had a blast as a writer, and learned a lot in the process. It's easy to criticise with hindsight and it's right to be critical because there are lessons to be learned, but those lessons shouldn't eclipse the achievement of everyone who actually brought something to completion against steep odds.

As for the future TGS though... five years ago, I warned that these vast, vast "plans" (five seasons of 'Bad Guys', another three of 'Gargoyles', etc.) were totally and utterly unrealistic and in fact distracted from the actual business of telling the stories at hand.

By this stage, the only TGS series that's really begging for a decent ending is 'Timedancer'. A small, close-ended serial or long fic wrapping that up would be very welcome indeed. The fics already drafted for TGS many years ago would very nearly sustain a mini-season on their own.

Beyond that, it's clear that the staff isn't available to support even a very modest season outside the very, very, very, very long-term. As I understand, almost all the people who were the major architects of the various seasons have departed. By all means, continue the universe in personal fanfic, but meanwhile, the readers deserve some closure while they still have (by now very vague) recollections of what it's all about.

I haven't revealed anything myself (as far as I can recall) and don't expect to until the funeral, if ever. Maybe this time we really are on the cusp of an epic continuation; I don't want to spoil anyone's fun. But I'm not sure it's fair or reasonable to expect people not to discuss their ideas and ambitions for a project when it's so long departed (outside vague promises). It filled the void brilliantly throughout the series' wilderness years. It deserves to be remembered, examined, praised, damned, its secrets a matter for the public imagination. A complete, closed-ended monument. Having it rot in situ until one of these years, maybe, something will leak out of the TGS brains trust strikes me as profoundly against the spirit of the project. It was meant to fill the void of the cancelled series, not create a void to complement the series continuation.

LYNATI> The last TGS story was published, when, five years ago? The last TGS: Gargoyles story was published before the 2001 Gathering.

I spoke to other former staffers before I started publicly discussing things I had written or was going to write. Robby Bevard, and others. There is a statute of limitations when it comes to things like this. Hell, it's just fanfiction.

The fact is, you've all been saying it's coming, it's coming, it's coming for years. I know, I used to say it. If it means that much to you, I won't say a word anymore because, well, it is a non issue. But, honestly, put up or shut up.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

It's not that Gargoyles season 4 is never coming out- it's that after the first time Bishansky spoilered the intent for Tamora to turn out to be a villain some months back, we decided to re-write the sections concerning that plot twist so that we would have something that would still be a surprise.

Greg, would you pretty please stop telling everybody what the old plans were? Some of them are ones we are still going with, and we'd like them to be new and not "oh I heard that six months ago" when we do start releasing the next season.

Your assumption that "They are never going to release the next season" is as inaccurate as it is disheartening to see, and the addition of "...so it's okay for me to tell everyone what the plans were" is more than a little bit rude. Especially considering that when you were running the project, you said that and worse about a former staff member who had given away a large chunk of some of the previous plans in a personal work of fanfiction.

It's okay for you to believe TGS doesn't have a reason to continue now that the canon comic exists; nobody is denying your right to have and voice an opinion about that, or about the material that was previously released. But since you haven't been on staff for quite some time, and you don't know what the current state of internal affairs is, The Gargoyles Saga writers respectfully ask you to stop telling everyone that you "know" that the next season is never going to be released, and to otherwise stop making our job harder by lobbing pieces of intended plot to the general public. It just leads to time wasted on discussions about if we want to leave the story that way, and occasionally more time on adapting any changes we decide are now necessary to give people a story they won't have already heard before.

Lynati - [Lynati_1 at hotmail dot com]

TODD> No one did, and I made a conscious decision to do that to show just how "un gargoyle like" Tamora actually is.

Though, to be honest, the TGS staff as a whole didn't seem to care about gargoyle customs anyway. They were all turned into "humans with wings" from close to day one.

I seem to recall one story about Brooklyn lamenting that he never got kissed because of his beak back at Wyvern. Never mind that it is not their custom.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

BISHANSKY - Just out of curiosity, did anybody bring up the "Kissing isn't a gargoyle custom" during the discussions? (Not that I think it matters, since Tamora doesn't seem that conservative about the Gargoyle Way.)
Todd Jensen

Hey, it's an unfortunate drawback of being descended from a society of people with a "Sex for procreation only" credo.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

BISHANSKY - Pity that the scene got objections; I don't know about the sex elements, but I thought that Goliath's horror and revulsion at the thorough corruption of Tamora and the Balthazar, both of whom had as thoroughly abandoned the Gargoyle Way as Thailog and for the same things, was well captured.

***********

NIGHTSTONE UNLIMITED

Goliath’s eyes flew open with shock as the night sky lit up through the large windows of the war room. The orbs burned like white phosphorus, a guttural roar escaping his lungs. Every moment of not knowing whether his clan was dead or alive gnawed at his very existence.

The ding of the nearby elevator brought him out of his brief insanity of grief and rage only to have him once again cry out with white eyes and beastly roar. The Persian female paused as if admiring a work of art, a talon on her chin and one of the most sadistic smiles Goliath had ever seen. Perhaps that was all he was to her, a play thing, a trophy to gawk at or toy with. The thought did not help his disposition.

Tamora strolled to the window, hips swaying methodically, similar to a cat cornering a prey. She paused only for a moment before turning to Goliath licking her pursed lips. “Your clan is still alive,” she purred, gently grabbing a hold of his leash. “I’m sure you’re quite relieved to hear that.”

Goliath glared up at her, doing his best to maintain his head. She was toying with him, to what end he was not certain. “Why?”

“I beg your pardon?”

Goliath leveled his eyes, letting out a slow breath. He met his captor eyes, they were the slits of a snake, an obsidian abyss of arrogance and desire. “We welcomed you into our home, Tamora. We treated you as clan, family,” he stated, his tone once again betraying his anger. “Why did you betray us? Why are you helping Thailog do this?”

Tamora could not keep from letting out a small laugh.

“It’s really your own fault you know,” she stated matter-of-factly. Her sudden motion caught him by surprise, reaching down and grabbing both sides of his head, bringing him towards her. She forcefully wrapped her lips around his mouth, driving her tongue to meet his. He felt her in his mouth, her saliva sloshing about with the wrapping flicks of the muscle. Her eyes had closed but Goliath’s had only widened, his body rigid, helpless.

Finally, Tamora pulled away, hissing in disgust. She spat at the floor before her, eyes red. “Her taste is still on you, her scent,” she paused, regaining her composure. After a breath and a toss of her hair, the arrogance had returned but the lust had all but vanished. “You and I could have been glorious together. I knew it as soon as I first laid my eyes upon you in Japan. We could have led a union of the two mightiest clans on Earth. Just imagine what we could have accomplished together. By the Dragon, glory and power would have been our mutual destiny.

“But no,” she spat once more. “Instead you chose to couple with that human woman.”

“My personal choices are my own,” Goliath retorted. “They have little to do with relations between our two clans. I reached out in friendship. We could still have been allies. There are so few of us left, we have no choice but to be united.

“And you still did not answer my question,” Goliath growled. “This has nothing to do with you, Elisa or myself. Why did you betray my clan?”

“Why?” she repeated, light amusement in her voice. “Politics Goliath, nothing personal. I bear no ill will towards Brooklyn, Hudson, or anyone else in your clan. Thailog just made me a better offer. The Balthazar agreed. He makes a far more powerful ally than your clan could ever have been.”

“Politics. Power.” Goliath growled at the very words. He suddenly realized that out of the few Persian gargoyles he had met he had yet to find one iota of nobility in any of them. Perhaps he was just wasting his breath. “I see the seeds of corruption run deeper through you and your clan than I could ever have imagined! By our very nature we have no need of such things as power. And you have the very audacity to call yourselves gargoyles.”

Tamora violently heaved the leash causing the larger gargoyle to slam face down on the cold steel floor. Letting go, she turned and started to leave, heading towards Thailog’s office, her indignation fully visible. She paused for a moment, partially turning to Goliath as if about to add on, but looked away and stepped out of the war room, the doors sealing behind her.

Whatever happenned to simplicity?

Yup, "Too mean."

Honestly, TGS S&P were a joke anyway, I always thought so.

I laughed when #4 and #5 of the comic book came out. TGS's S&P enthusiasts would never have let Thailog stab Goliath in the gut like that. Never mind Goliath nearly bleeding to death on the castle floor.

"You can't have Thailog do that. It's mean!" my ass. ;)

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

As I recall, (mind you this was years and years ago now) the actual argument at the time was in fact "Thailog can't do that, it would be too mean." The story idea at the time had Thailog bruned and crippled, low on resources and time, and desperate and such. I don't remember all the details. I think at the end of it Claw might have actually spoken, but its been a long time.

There were legitimate reasons not to go that route, but the reason given was "too mean." But I remember it as a very interesting tstory that gave Thailog his menace back after he'd been really sucky for an entire season.

Of course, there was also the Hyena and Sevarius story arc that never really got off the ground. THAT woulda been interesting...

Robby Bevard

I don't remember any "That's too mean" arguments against Thailog ripping off Claw's wings during my time on TGS, though I might have been distracted with a different part of the project (such as "Pendragon") at the time.

The argument I do remember was "Claw's got little enough to do as the only Mutate who doesn't talk, and if he loses his wings, he'll wind up with no role but to stay in the Labyrinth and watch television with Hudson's clone" (I suspect that whoever voiced it was thinking of Bronx - the only wingless member of the Manhattan clan, if you don't count Elisa - being generally the one who'd get left behind at the clock tower).

Todd Jensen

For the unaware, next year's Gathering will be in Los Angeles.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

I suppose Thailog could ripoff Claws wings if he had to. But why would he? Wouldn't it be far easier to just clone a set of wings, ala Sevarious, and then dispose of the body that was cloned with it. That way he doesn't have to worry about the wings being rejected, being made from his own blood. Rippingoff Claws wings sounds like it would be fun but only if Thailog had no other options that would have required less effort on his part.

Greg X> You are absolutely right. Television can be a different animal as some shows can never truly conclude, but seasons 4 and 5 of Babylon 5 had an episode after the climax (maybe other seasons as well, but those two stick out right now) that served that purpose.

Plus, with a series, you need a tie in for future adventures. Sadly with many modern movies, special effects replace plot. If Return of the Jedi ended with the destruction of the second Death Star, it would not be half the movie it was.

I could see Thailog ripping off Claw's wings (poor Claw), and Goliath's reaction as he has a Future Tense flashback.

Harvester of Eyes> LOL!!! I deifinitely want that fanfic, but would Jason keep saying "Jason!" in various tones? Plus when someone shouts "cripple fight", no one pays any attention :)

BISHANSKY - I assume you meant "like ending Season Two of 'Gargoyles' with 'The Gathering'", rather than "like ending Season Two of 'Gargoyles' with 'Hunter's Moon'".

But good point. (Your comment about the "too many endings" complaints reminds me of many of the comments about the ending of the movie version of "The Return of the King" - though I honestly didn't think it had that problem when I saw it. Of course, I'd read the book and knew that there was a fairly long denouement (six chapters) after Sauron's downfall. Maybe the people who said "too many endings" hadn't read the book.)

Todd Jensen

I agree with Greg. Alot of people forget about the five structures. Especially the fifth one!!!
lonerider26 - [sgolab at comcast dot net]

Sigh... I blame television for this mentality. Television and modern movies.

You don't end at the climax, people.

The five structures of story telling are:

Introduction
Rising Action
Complication
Climax
Denouement

Only it seems too few people want Denouement anymore. When we do get it, people complain. "Oh! Too many endings!"

Again, I reference season two. In a lot of ways, the season was about introducing the Third Race, first Puck then the Weird Sisters, they had a sense of mystery to them. Foreshadowing Oberon.

Ending season two of TGS at "The Darkest Hour" would have been like ending season two of the series at "Hunter's Moon"

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

gxb - < By your logic, season two of the series should have ended with "The Gathering" instead of "Hunter's Moon".> Not saying that at all or even implying it. Thematically, tgs gargoyles and pendragon season 2 was all about the SUW. Season 1 ended with the SUW getting ready to start. It would have been a nice cliffhanger to end on The Darkest Hour. Aftermath would have been a great season opener for tgs gargoyles season 3. TGS Season 1 was build-up to the SUW, season 2 was the SUW except for stuff tacked on the end. TGS gargoyles Season 3 would have worked better, imo, if it had focused on the aftermath of and recovery from the suw.
dph_of_rules

DPH> By your logic, season two of the series should have ended with "The Gathering" instead of "Hunter's Moon".

An aftermath was absolutely necessary.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

TODD> The problem with the third season wasn't that we didn't have ideas after the SUW. Some of us did. But there was very much an internal power struggle over where to take things the following season. A lot of clashing, especially on the tone of the series.

Some of us wanted to keep it in the spirit of the series, show some balls and not be afraid to take risks. Others wanted to play it safe, and bring it down to the level of an 80s cartoon. I'm not naming names, but when this staffer proposed their version of Bad Guys (we had so many proposals), they didn't want Robyn to lead the team because she's a woman and in their point of view, "No action cartoon ever had a woman in charge."

Between that and "You can't have Thailog be that mean!" I wonder if this individual even understood the series TGS was based on.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

I remember some discussion about that, back when we were plotting Season Two. In the end, most of the staff decided that the season needed to end a few episodes after the Second Unseelie War's final battle, to show that war doesn't end just because the fighting's stopped.

I do think that one thing many of us (myself included) overlooked was what should take place after the Second Unseelie War; we left ourselves stranded once it was over.

Todd Jensen

Personally, I think Season 2 should have ended with "The Darkest Hour" part 2. It makes sense in so many ways. Season 2 had the start of the SUW. Ending the SUW in Season 2 would have been so logical. Then Season 3 could have had a clear theme: Dealing with the aftermath of the SUW.

Funny story, Thailog was originally going to be cured in the third season, but with his wings so completely destroyed, we were going to have him capture Claw, tear out his wings and have them surgically implanted to his own body.

But another former staffer said, and I quote "You can't do that. It's mean!"

Yeah, the reason season three was so meh was that there were many disagreements on where to take it. What kind of tone it should have. The staff was pretty split.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

Although, by not having Thailog crippled in the canon universe, we are missing out on a sweet story: a cripple fight between him and Jason Canmore. Someone touches it off by refusing to don a silly hat, and then they spend five issues beating the almighty fuck out of each other.

Just a thought... ( ;

Jessica : It'll be posted as soon as it's written. Sometime this century would be a good bet.

Shara : Actually, I'm pretty sure you did get some response last time. In any event, I rather liked Harvester's idea of doing "Reprisals". Though pretty much any TGS story would be all right with me.

Spen

To Shara: A webcomic would be awesome, and if I had to choose a story I would choose "Partnership" from TGS season 1. It's my favorite story from the entire TGS saga, and in my humble opinion, one of the most dramatic.

Can anyone tell me when TGS season 4 will be posted on here?

Jessica

Roots for the pendragon spin off.

Which comes to mind

I might of asked this question before but got no responce. Would anyone here be interested in us doing a webcomic from one of the TGS storys.

What story should we use?

Shara - [Jeanie54_2000 at yahoo dot com]

I was on the project for a tiny proportion of the time Todd and Greg each were, but I'd third Greg's comments.

I really enjoyed TGS as a reader and writer. But even working on 'Pendragon' S4, I never felt like it was an especially good sequel to the original, or was designed to be. It had become something in its own right and personally, I wanted to try to be true to that rather than some interpretation of what might be in Greg Weisman's mind from clues he'd dropped in 1997. Obviously there was a common thread but the tone of the two is, I think, quite different.

TGS was several dozen writers in imitation of Greg Weisman and the comics are the single vision of Greg Weisman free to tell his stories.

And TGS has had hundreds of episodes. For a true comparison, compare TGS two thirds of the way through "Partnership" and a third of the way through "The Return"!

Two years into the comic, it's still less than 3 weeks after "Hunter's Moon", so I'm sure Goliath will be in the comic for many years to come (always hoping it goes on that long). I can't wait.

Ed

As a former TGS staff member, I second Bishansky's remarks.

I hope that, after the "Bad Guys" spin-off is done, Greg Weisman will get to do a "Pendragon" spin-off, though we've already seen some of his take on Arthur's adventures after his return in #7-#8. I certainly think that he'll avoid the mistake of making it seem too much like an Arthurian retelling with the present-day parts being just framework.

Todd Jensen

lonerider> Thank you, but no... as a former staffer, I have to disagree. Greg's come up with a lot of better stories than we ever could.

His Illuminati for example is much cooler. Creepier. More mysterious and intriguing.

Xanatos has proven to still be the same character know and love, instead of the TGC version of the character TGS mistakingly went with.

And Goliath sacrificing himself for gargoyle rights is beautiful. Like Martin Luther King or Gandhi or Jesus. Great men seldom live to see their dreams realized.

I also am sure Greg's Demona stories will continue to be better.

Not saying TGS didn't do cool stuff, but we're not quite as good as Greg.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

I just wanted to say that I love your website and I like the story arks a lot better than those of Greg Weisman(no offense to Greg Weisman, cus he's awsome!!!) I just find it sad that in his stories, goliath sacrifices himself for some reason, and that almost made me cry!!! Goliath is my favorite character and I hope he lives forever!!!

DPH> The answer to that is that the fuck head should know when not to get toasted off his ass.

Personally, anyone that stupid should be killed or castrated in the best interest of human evolution anyway. Take the stupid out of the gene pool.

Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]

DPH: I don't think the fact that he was drunk excuses what he did. I've done stupid shit while drunk, but I've never tried to use it as a defense. If he hadn't been drunk in the first place, he wouldn't have done it, and no one makes you drink except yourself.

Besides, if he was in a situation where he could be dancing in front of preschoolers, then he was probably drunk in public, and that's a law I happen to agree with. The man has no one to blame except himself.

This is interesting. I did a search at yahoo for "TGS trivia quiz". Within the 100 results, I did not find the link to the quiz on the tgs website. I did the same search at google and to my amazement, the first entry listed was the link to the quiz on the tgs website. Wow!!

Tonight, there was an interesting potential suspect. The guy was a registered sex offender. His crime: he got drunk and danced around in the nude. The problem was he did in front of preschoolers. My question is the law that bad that a guy while drunk dancing in the nude accidently gets in front of preschoolers becomes a sex offender? If so, is the punishment equitable to the crime?

Yes, we have a bit of free time. I'm going to go over my old files to ensure the markup is clean and comments/info are clearly noted. Given how long ago I wrote it up, it could probably use a bit of polishing.

FS and I are still unemployed, but have been keeping busy job hunting and interviewing. (I think I might have a part-time job lined up.) FS is also working on code as examples for his resume. I won't need his help to implement the new site design, but I will use his preliminary code (and help) to eventually implement a CR Member's profile section -- since we're keeping it active -- that allows users to update their own data without me as a middleman.

Courtney

Thank you so much Lynati and Greg for replying. Lynati, any idea when we'll be seeing a post for season 4?

Greg, I had actually never heard of comics until I read you guys talking about them here. See, I just discovered gargoyles as a whole about a week and a half ago. I've been watching the series on YouTube, and I'm about halfway through season 2. Does Barnes and Noble sell the books, do you think?

Jessica - [padawanlinea at gmail dot com]

I also wanted to add that I would not mind helping out the site at all if you need a technical person.
you can find out more about me and my company by going to my website link I'm not much of a writer but I can help out with PHP and various bits of administration if needed.

Talon - [wschaub at steubentech dot com]

I have been away for a very long time I'm glad ot see you guys are still here although it looks like things have stalled.

I wanted to thank the TGS team for keeping Gargoyles alive for so long and doing a wonderful job. I intend to finish reading timedancer I cant even remmeber where I left off but I really identify with the character and the concept of the series.

Is there a mailing list I can subscribe to to get updates when new fiction is released?

Also I'm curious if anyone is left from the old chatnet #gargoyles IRC on this board. I often wonder what happened to those people.

Talon - [wschaub at steubentech dot com]

Season 3 is considered finished- Season 4 has been in progress for several years, due to the project now having a minimal amount of people willing and able to make time to spend on the project. Progress continues, albeit an inch at a time some weeks.
Lynati - [Lynati_1 at hotmail dot com]

Hey Jessica, are you reading the comic book?
Greg Bishansky

I just discovered this site a week ago, and was so amazed that I made it through all three seasons of the gargoyles saga. I thought the writing and the stories were absolutely wonderful. Which brings me to this...are you guys going to keep it going with a Season 4 or at least finish up season 3, if it is unfinished? There's still obviously loose threads and plotlines to tie up. I'm just hoping that it hasn't been abandoned. I'm so anxious to know what happens now that Goliath and Elisa are (finally!) married, or mated or whatever. Thanks!

Lonerider> That was me, and I'm definitely not a 'she'. Yes, I do think Sata was boring, and I know a few former (and I think still present) staff members thought so too. That being said, I can't wait to meet Katana.

Still, why does that bother you so much. If you enjoy the characters, by all means, enjoy the characters. A comment I made on YouTube expressing my opinion over not only a fictional character, but a fanfiction character should not matter to you.

Greg Bishansky

hey! i was just on youtube and watched a time dancers tribute, but in the comments, there was someone who had worked on TGS and said that she thought sata was boring and that the twins were stupid. she also said that most if the staff thought so too. is that true. hope not:(

lonerider- why yes, we do have an extremely pared-down staff compared to the 30-odd people involved back when TGS was started, and dare I say, going strong. Spen covered the rest. We have had some recent resurgence in offers to help, though.

Lady Mystic - I'm for keeping the profiles- if you are concerned about security, maybe you could "black out" (or delete) information you feel might compromise people. But I feel there is something to be said about associating your name and presence with something you feel/felt strongly about, and being able to come back years later and still see it there. (Then again, I do have a thing about monuments to the past being reminders of what our future could be.) Are you two having the free time to work on the site overhaul again? I'd really like to see the whole thing- esp. the front page- implemented in the design you guys came up with.

Whatever happenned to simplicity?

Lady Mysic : 1. What information in the CR Information section do you find unnecessary or too cumbersome/complex? What suggestions do you have for changes/improvements?

Not much, really.

2. What information do you think can be omitted without hindrance to forum users (for example, Request Guidelines and Development sections)?

Yeah, I guess request guidelines could go. Can't really think of anything else.

3. Do you still want new and additional avatars added to the CR, or is the current usable supply sufficient?

Hmm. The current number is certainly more than sufficiant, however, I was hoping that at least one picture of Mary Sefton would eventually be added (seing that she was a regular and all).

4. Do you still want a CR Member's section? If so, do you still want the ability to create and update your member profile?

Yes and yes. I still use the section fairly frequently, and the only reason I haven't gotten a profile myself is because my birthday is on August fourth, and that's a rather crowded day already. As for the security issue, I personally think that it was a chance they took when they first posted them, and I myself don't really see how one could really get much in the way of damaging information from them. If this were a larger forum I'd be far more wary, but as small and out of the way as this place is, I don't think there's much to be worried about.

5. Do you still want a manually updated events calendar for the CR Member's section? (An automated one will require recoding and a redesign.) Or would a simple list of events (that doesn't need to be updated to reflect the year's format) be sufficient?

I quite like that last idea. For one thing, it would eliminate my main barrier to having a member profile. And on a computer as slow as mine, it would probably load quicker.

6. Any other suggestions, recommendations, concerns, or comments? If so, this is the time to voice them!

Not that I can think of. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

Lonerider26 : Welcome to the comment room! The end of "Longest Day, Part One" was a dream sequence. Can't remember off the top of my head whose dream it was, though.

While yes, the main series has not been updated since before 9/11, Timedancer, Pendragon, and Untold Tales have all had new episodes since then. While you're waiting for the new season, you might want to check those out; they're all exellent, particularly the latter two.
And I'm fairly sure that Mei Sing will be coming back next season (just my guess though, I'm not on staff).

And you aren't the only one who wishes everyone would post more. Feel free to post anytime you want, though. If you have any questions, comments, complaints, or anything at all related to TGS, I'm sure that either DPH, Lynati or myself will respond as soon as we see it. (Of course, that's not always daily, since there's rarely any posting here.)

Spen

thanks for responding! i kinda figured it out on my own though. still, i wish you guys would post more. kepp up the good work:)
lonerider26 - [sgolab at comcast dot net]

1. What information in the CR Information section do you find unnecessary or too cumbersome/complex? What suggestions do you have for changes/improvements?

Honestly, I think you've kept it quite neat and trim, having just a little more than what is minimally required.

2. What information do you think can be omitted without hindrance to forum users (for example, Request Guidelines and Development sections)?

Just the two you mentioned, although an argument can be made for the members section.

3. Do you still want new and additional avatars added to the CR, or is the current usable supply sufficient?

I like the number we have here. Now if there were new stories and more art, that would be another matter, but for now the list is long enough.

4. Do you still want a CR Member's section? If so, do you still want the ability to create and update your member profile?

Well, since I want mine pared down quite a bit already, and I don't think it's viewed all that much, I don't think it's necessary anymore.

5. Do you still want a manually updated events calendar for the CR Member's section? (An automated one will require recoding and a redesign.) Or would a simple list of events (that doesn't need to be updated to reflect the year's format) be sufficient?

I like the second one. Less of a coding issue.

6. Any other suggestions, recommendations, concerns, or comments? If so, this is the time to voice them!

Na. Brain hurt at the moment.

Fire Storm

My thoughts on the survey:

I, personally, find it unnecessary to include additional CR images when very few of the current ones are even used. I also believe the CR Members section can be deactivated, and possibly, deleted due to lack of activity. There are only one or two CR Members who actually update their profile data anymore. And given how much time has passed since some members have participated in the forum, I have some concern over the security of their data. While anyone can search the archives to get details, it's far too easy to obtain said info from abandoned profiles. (Yes, I'm entitled to a change in perspective. While I like archiving and maintaining the integrity of data, I value security and privacy even more.)

The extensive guidelines for submitting forum feature requests was necessary upon its inception due to the volume of requests, but I feel this is unnecessary now. Very few requests for forum features are made anymore. Any requests can easily be broadcasted to me through the forum or via email.

Essentially, I feel the CR Information section should be pared down to better suit the current needs of the forum. If more features (for the complementary resources, or for the actual forum) were needed, I would recommend relocating the Comment Room to Ning.com, which offers a great platform, free service, customizable features, and optional add-ons.

Lady Mystic - [<--- NING]

Spen: That's just what I had in mind! The lack of room wipes necessitates a different archiving presentation.

****** TGS CR INFORMATION UPDATE ******

ARCHIVE:

The archive has been updated to include CR posts from the year 2007, which happens to be - as all of you know - one single file. As such, you can find archived weeks/posts from the years 2006 and 2007 (to the present) by clicking on "2006-Present). For consistency, links are presented in the same format as "Incomplete" CR weeks.

I also corrected the broken links that were brought to my attention by Spen. (Thanks Spen!)

ADMINS PAGE:

Administrator's names are now linked to their respective CR member profiles, where available. I thought users, particularly new users, might appreciate and benefit from this little addition.

NO ASSISTANT ADMIN:

Fire Storm, who used to be an Assistant Admin of CR Information, has stepped down from that official title for personal reasons. He will, however, aid me with PHP programming when needed. Additionally, he has stopped using his email address due to uncontrollable amounts of spam. You can reach him through me.

CR MEMBER PROFILES:

Fire Storm's and Lady Mystic's profiles have been updated, mainly to reflect the omission of their deactivated websites.

I have purposefully refrained from updating the Member's calendar pages. (See the survey below.)

All updated pages can be viewed via my name link.

Heh, I just realized, I've now been posting here for three years. Wish I could go back and edit that first post, though. (And almost every post after that. :) Ah well, I guess it's just as well that my stupidity is forever enshrined in the archives. If we could edit past posts, there wouldn't be any historical value to it all.

Lady Mystic : Speaking of the archive, I've been thinking, is it really necessary to have seperate years these days? What I mean is, since 2007 & 2008 will only be having two "weeks", shouldn't we just put them in a "2006-Present" folder? It would also save on unnecessary double posting. Just an idea.

**dph grabs a automatic air-powered staple gun, pulls out a poster, lays the poster on a wall, lets go of the poster, rapid fires the staple gun. A new world record is achieved. The poster has the following message:

MIA: Guandalug la'Fay
Wanted for contact to adjust multiple pages on the gargoyles-fans.org websites to advertise for gargoyles comics. Those websites have a high ranking on the search engines so advertising on those would help a bunch.**

Hey all, I hope everyone has been doing good. Anyways I just have to say I can't wait for more stuff from this place. Especially timedancer. Well hope everyone is doing well.
louis - [louisr at yahoo dot com]

Actually, I was thinking about doing that for all the stuff we don't get to after TGS Gargoyls Season 4 is out. Rahsaan has actually started to get us some feedback on the incomplete outlines in the last couple weeks, and it's sparked recent work on two separate stories.
Lynati

There hasn't been a full season for upwards of 4 years now and I know Greg and Robby at least have given up keeping any of the 'secrets'. It's been said a very skeletal skeleton crew is working on more stuff -- but this was the case 4 years ago as well. In the entire 18 months I was there I think only three people other than myself contributed more than one whole, new outline, and they all left. I'd guess from this that the remaining people aren't really numerous enough or able to give the time or energy to push a project this ambition to completion.

It's a bit of a shame because in 2003 at least there were some pretty good stories -- and at least half a dozen completed or near completion in some sort of draft form. The window to bring the series to a dignified climax and give way to the official continuation in the comics has passed, but I'd be happy to see a kind of 'gallery of unseen stories' collecting the notes and plots and drafts that are still out there. I think people would still get a kick out of it all. Oh well.

Ed

A belated happy birthday to you DPH. Many more.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I've not had any luck running down info about if TGS is still functioning in any capacity. I'm hopeful that I can reach somebody on the Staff if it still is an ongoing concern.

Anyone have any news one way or the other?

I'd like to thank you first off for churning out a fanfiction universe. I'd like to say good job, I could imagine some of the scenes, doubtless my fanfiction writing for other fandoms helps on that. I'd like to request your permission to use my interpretation of Angela's human form in the second chapter of my fanfic Sir Xander. Please either e-mail or review on www.tthfanfic.com on the story Sir Xander by Rothos.

In City of Stone Pt. 4, when the Weird Sisters are talking to Demona at the end, which one says "Who betrayed MacBeth to Canmore?" Was it Seline?
Doop

Thanks friend. That should help me.

Louis, that specific info does not exist. But anything and everything you ever could want to know about Gargoyles that does exist can be found here:

"Hey, it's that kid who reminds me of my lost youth and innocense. If I kill him I bet I can symbolically kill my own fear and vulnerability. Man, that's deep. Oh, no! It backfired! Now I'm more emo than ever, CRAP!"

Thanks for that Lynati. Oh I know I asked people this last year and never got a response. Does anyone know first off where I can find specific details on each gargoyle, like height, wing span, etc.
louis - [louisr at yahoo dot com]

louis- yes, and I still need to look up the answers to what you asked.

DPH - money isn't the problem. the problem is something to the effect of the host site said the domain had expired, and the domain people said that no, the domain name had been renewed automatically. Gunjack thinks it might have been renewed pointing to the old location; they're working on getting it sorted out.

Lynati - [Lynati_1 at hotmail dot com]

Lynati - did Lain & Gunjack have enough money to keep their website online? Lain mentioned that she was off for the last 2 weeks of December.

Yeah, it's a domain problem they are fixing.

It's silly. It's a silly movie. There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?- George Lucas on Spider-Man 3

Seen the solicitations for the next several comics?

"From the Holy Land to the British Isles... everyone wants a piece of the Rock. Xanatos, Macbeth, Coldsteel, Thailog, Merlin, Cu Chullain and the gargoyles strive to find it, possess it and learn its darkest secrets. All this and Fox's new shoes in CLAN-BUILDING, Chapter 8: Rock & Roll."

"CLAN BUILDING: Chapter 9, "Rock of Ages" - David Xanatos makes his final play for the Rock - in broad daylight when the gargoyles sleep as stone! But will the Illuminati be pleased with the end result? And what's this obsession over Fox's new shoes?"

"The Gate." Brooklyn could really use some time away from the Clan, but when the time-traveling Phoenix Gate materializes before his eyes, maybe the phrase "look, but don't touch" should have come to mind. Careful what you wish for, Brooklyn!"

"The Japanese gargoyle Yama has been banished from Clan Ishimura until such time as his lost honor can be restored. Truly alone for the first time in his long life, he becomes a target of the Hunter, a human who has spent her life training to destroy the gargoyle race. So when Hunter and her new teammates, Dingo & Matrix, catch up to him, Yama is offered no mercy - and a job?"

"While Hunter, Dingo, Matrix and Yama are in Manhattan, trying to uncover why Doctor Sevarius freed Fang from prison, Hunter takes a break from the team to make peace with her wayward brothers - Jason Canmore and John Castaway!"

Greg Bishansky
"Hey, it's that kid who reminds me of my lost youth and innocense. If I kill him I bet I can symbolically kill my own fear and vulnerability. Man, that's deep. Oh, no! It backfired! Now I'm more emo than ever, CRAP!"
