Pendragon

In Arthurian lore, Arthur Pendragon is generally born because his biological father, Uther Pendragon, took on the form of Gorlois, the Duke of Cornwall and the first husband of Igraine, Arthur's biological mother. Uther was transformed through the magic of Merlin to appear as Gorlois, and essentially sexually assaulted Igraine by tricking her into taking him into her bed.

Given the moral focus that often is found in animated series, how would you have handled the situation surrounding the birth of Arthur Pendragon and Merlin's part in the events.

Greg responds...

I'm not revealing this at this time, though if you attended Gathering 2002 or 2003 you may have noticed a VERY indirect clue.

(The above is in itself a HUGE clue).

Pendragon

Geoffery of Monmouth states that Mordred was the son of Lot and Anna (Arthur's sister), and Arthur Pendragon's nephew. Sir Thomas Malory later expanded upon the story, having Mordred be the son of Arthur and his sister Anna (now Anna Morgause, Arthur's half-sister) through an incestuous tryst. This created the idea that Mordred was both the son and nephew of Arthur, and both his eventual heir and ultimate nemesis.

I read that you had intended Mordred to be the son of Arthur and Morgause, but was he conceived through an incestuous relationship, or given the moral focus that often is found in animated series, is their another explanation?

If the answer for the above question is that Mordred is not the product of incest, than is he the biological son of Lot and Morgause, yet have some special paternal bond with Arthur (ie. godfather or such)?

Greg responds...

I don't see me changing one of the fundamental relationships of the legends, i.e. Mordred being Arthur's illegit son by his half-sister. Assuming it was televised, I don't see me dwelling on the incest angle, but I wouldn't have contradicted it either.

Wyvern

I understand that Castle Wyvern and Wyvern Hill are located in Wyvern, Scotland. Is Wyvern, Scotland an actual place or fictional? Does Wyvern Hill have any connection do Ben Wyvis, a mountain in the Scottish Highlands?

Greg responds...

Wyvern Hill is a fictional location on the west coast of Scotland. (It was loosely modeled after Tintagel in Cornwall.)

Hunters

Through which of Malcolm Canmore's children do the Canmore family of Hunters (Charles, Jon, Jason, Robyn, et al) descend from? Is it from one of the children from his first mariage to Ingibiorg Finnsdottir (King Duncan II, Malcolm or Donald), his second marriage to St. Margaret Atheling (King Edmund I, King Edgar, King Alexander I the Fierce, King David I the Saint, Edward, Ethelred, Matilda or Mary), or as yet another child?

Greg responds...

I debated with myself as to whether or not I wanted to reveal this at this time, but what the heck...

The answer is Donald Canmore.

Gargoyles 2198

Do Samson and Delilah II develop a romantic relationship during Gargoyles 2198, or is it more platonic in nature? Given the fact that they are, in a manner of speaking, distantly related, I was curious as to your view on this. Samson is either the biological son or grandson of Angela, the daughter of Demona and Goliath. Delilah II is the biological granddaughter of Delilah of the Labyrinth clan, the hybridized clone of Demona and Elisa (in essence, their daughter). This would make Samson and Delilah II second cousins (or second cousins once removed).

Greg responds...

They do. And I'm aware of the relationship, but in a world with (still) very few gargoyles, the fact that they are second cousins (or less) doesn't seem that problematic to me.

1a) Did Goliath know Jon Canmore and John Castaway were the same person? b) Did Elisa?

Greg responds...

1a. Not at the time of "The Journey".
1b. Ditto.

Todd sent the following to me in response to my request for a quick info fix...

Dear Greg,

I hope that you don't mind me e-mailing you directly about Roger Lancelyn Green, but I thought that this was the quickest way
of getting the information to you (given the length of the queue and the fact that I know that you don't dare read much of the
comment room because many of the people there post "creativity demons" there).

At any rate, you're correct about the spelling: it is Roger Lancelyn Green. The title of the book is "King Arthur and his Knights
of the Round Table".

Dear Mr. Weisman,

While Disney would never sell the rights to Gargoyles (not that I would want them to anyway), would they potentially sell the DVD rights? The majority of anime titles end up on DVD due to companies buying the DVD rights. While Gargoyles is not a foreign property, there is precedence for this occuring with North American releases as well. For instance ADV aquired the rights and subsequently released Season 3 of Mainframe's Reboot on DVD. Thus, would it be possible to convince another company of the value of Gargoyles that would in turn buy rights for a period of time from Disney to put the series on DVD? It looks to me like it would be a good situation for Disney since they would get money out of the deal (and potentially a cut of the gross, etc.) and they still retain the rights to Gargoyles.

Greg responds...

This is highly unlikely... and hopefully unnecessary, as Disney Home Entertainment is planning to release the first season of Gargoyles on DVD in 2004. Release of subsequent seasons are obviously dependent on the sales of the first DVD release.

Would you consider ever putting out any more "episodes" of gargoyles on the web as a continuation from the journey? If not, is there any fan fiction you would recommend as bbeing fairly close to what you had intended?

Greg responds...

I don't read any fan fiction at all as policy, so I can't recommend any, one way or another.

I'd love to find a way to continue Gargoyles and I'm still searching for that way...

Where do Demona's wings go when she's inside her exoframe?

Greg responds...

I assume they're folded in some way over her shoulder. I'd have to look again.
