Is Gabriel Coldstones son? If so then does that make his love his mother?

Greg responds...

Yes, Gabriel is the biological son of Coldstone and Coldfire. But from a gargoyle's point of view, Goliath is as much Gabriel's father as Coldstone is.

What did Titania say to Fox at the end of The Gathering?
If you dont answer this(like you dont to all the other people who ask you this)I will assume that you dont even know the answer.

Greg responds...

Assume what you want. I maintain that I know MY answer. But that at this point, I've come to believe that no answer I could supply could live up to the hype.

Greg responds...

Assuming your information is accurate, then some error did occur. But it might have been Puck's error.

I have a language question. The gargoyles (Manhattan Clan)come from medevil Scotland, right? Well, English 1000 years ago wasn't the same as it is now. It actually bears little resemblence to old English, so how could the gargoyles understand our English (Modern English) when they woke up in NY in 1994?
When you really think about it they should be speaking Scottish since they're from a time when people in Scotland spoke Scottish, not English.
So either way you look at it there should have been a lot of communication problems at first. (I can accept we can understand everyone in Scotland 994 since you'd have to use subtitles otherwise. Thanks :)

Greg responds...

You are essentially correct, although I'd use the term Gaelic, I think, rather than Scottish.

The "behind the scenes" answer, as I've mentioned before, was that we chose Scotland in part because it's a place where people CURRENTLY speak English, so we felt we could skate past the language question without too much of a problem.

The "in universe" answer, which I've also mentioned before, came, I believe, from Michael Reaves, who suggested that a spell was cast (perhaps by Demona before Goliath & Company were brought to the top of the Eyrie Building) to bring the Gargoyles up to speed language-wise without any of them realizing that they'd been effected.

W.I.T.C.H.

Hey gang,

I got a job!!!!

I'll be producing the SECOND season of a series called W.I.T.C.H. for SIP Animation and ABC Family's Jetix block.

I had nothing to do with the FIRST season, but I'm rooting for its success... because frankly if it doesn't do well, then you'll never get to see the neatokeen stuff I'm planning for season two.

The first W.I.T.C.H. "minisode" premieres on Jetix on Saturday morning, October 30th. (Check your local listings.) Again, I had nothing to do with it, but I do think it's fun stuff. (And if you love me, you'll support it ;)

Oh, and while I'm at it, I think my first episode of THE BATMAN, "The Big Chill" featuring Mr. Freeze airs THIS Saturday, October 23rd on Kids WB. (Again, check your local listings.) It features the voice of Clancy Brown (Hakon, Wolf) as Freeze.

And also keep an eye out for the two episodes of SUPER ROBOT MONKEY TEAM HYPERFORCE GO! which I wrote for Jetix. I'm not sure exactly when they're airing, but I'll keep you posted.

Thanks!!

Dear Gregg, I do not know if this message will get through but, i figured i would try. Have you ever given thought about how to continue the gargoyles saga without the t.v show? a.k.a. roll playing game. If so, please at least e-mail me at www.Tapewormsupreme@aol.com to let me know. I am sure the prospect has been mentioned in the past, but i would like to know if perhaps it could happen some day?

Greg responds...

I'd love to continue working on Gargoyles in any format. No one has offered.

Nope. More of a reference to Alexander the Great.

After reading many questions and responses in regards to the show, it seems to me that you loved the show but was dissapointed in that it was cancled due to ratings. You are very consistent in in that it was never about the money (although Disney may have thought otherwise) and that spin-offs and movie ideas to continue the show haven't materialized. My question is simple: Have you ever considered participating in a manga-styled comic to continue the Gargoyle storyline and saga? I know it maybe more complicated than it sounds (to me), but I'm sure you would have more freedom to expand the story line, and maybe more flexible (you wouldn't have to pay for voice overs or animation sequences). I for one, would buy it.

BTW, thanks for posting the Carl Johnson music! I have searched long and hard for it... cheers to such a great site!

Greg responds...

You've slightly mischaracterized things... for example, I had left Disney nearly a year before they took the show off ABC.

But cutting to the heart of your question, I'd love to do Gargoyles comics or manga. I nearly did the Marvel Gargoyles comic, before that book was cancelled. No one else has offered.

I didn't post the Carl Johnson music. But I'm glad you like it.

Hi Greg, I am not sure if you or anyone else has noticed this . . . maybe it's just me, but in the episode City of Stone 2, Demona stands by two statues of a man and woman who look VERY similar to Brandon and Margot. Demona then shatters the statues. WERE the statues REALLY Brandon and Margot????

I've SO answered this before. Check the archives.

Puck looks too much like Oberon to not be his child, is it possible Puck is related to Oberon if not his biological son?

Greg responds...

I don't see much resemblance, frankly. Which is not to say that they may not be distantly related. But they're definitely NOT father and son, nor do I see a familial relationship playing any role in their dynamic.

I have been looking over Gargoyles fan sites and in the credits for some of the voice actors I have found the following:

Gargoyles: Brothers Betrayed (1998)
Gargoyles: The Force of Goliath (1998)
Gargoyles: The Hunted (1998)

After scanning your FAQs I am unable (or just blind) to find out what these are. Would you be good enough to tell me. Thanks
Brian

Greg responds...

Sure.

In the late 90s, Buena Vista Home Entertainment released the first season of Gargoyles on 5 home videos. I'll list the videos with the episodes they presented below:

1. GARGOYLES: The Movie: The Heroes Awaken
"Awakening, Part One"
"Awakening, Part Two"
"Awakening, Part Three"
"Awakening, Part Four"
"Awakening, Part Five"
[Note that this was an edited movie version of our five-part pilot, originally created for a special World Premiere screening in September, 1994.]

2. GARGOYLES: The Hunted
"The Thrill of the Hunt"
"Temptation"

3. GARGOYLES: The Force of Goliath
"Deadly Force"
"Enter Macbeth"

4. GARGOYLES: Deeds of Deception
"The Edge"
"Long Way to Morning"

5. GARGOYLES: Brothers Betrayed
"Her Brother's Keeper"
"Reawakening"

All of these episodes -- UNCUT -- will be available on December 7th, 2004 on DVD. Along with some cool extras.

Okay, so I'm sitting here watching the Halloween Gargoyles Marathon on Toon Disney when City of Stone comes on.

All goes well, until I notice another crazy edit-- the word terrorist.

When the Weird Sisters-as-little-girls are telling Goliath it was good of him to spare the terrorist, and warning him not to be like her, they cut off his response, "I'll never be like this terrorist," to, "I'll never be like this."

Not too bad, really, but they wouldn't let the Weird Sisters say it either. "We were not talking about this--" I dunno. Maybe a first time viewer wouldn't notice anything off... but I did.

Just thought you and the other folks around here might want to know. Toon Disney sure has its issues.

Greg responds...

Sigh. Yeah. The notion that a single word becomes problematic, even when used correctly strikes me as an overreaction.

And yet... and yet....

If you put your mindset back to the days immediately following 9/11...

A little extra sensitivity is hard to complain about...

The Weird Sisters - "Avalon" & "City of Stone"

For me, the Sisters orchestrating of Demona and Macbeth's lives has always been about much more than just getting revenge against the Magus, or 'some petty strike on an island' as another fan put it. Certainly revenge was involved as it's in their nature - but had the Sisters not bound Demona and Macbeth, Demona would have died long ago and Xanatos would never have raised Castle Wyvern above the clouds, and the rest just plays out from there. Again the immutable nature of time and fate in the Gargoyles universe is made clear.

I don't think I've seen any comments on this from yourself though, so I am left wondering if no one has caught on to the greater scheme of things here, or maybe I'm just jumping to grand comclusions?

Greg responds...

You're not.

The key, I believe, to understanding the sisters is that they are simultaneously of three minds: those of the Graces, the Furies and the Fates. (And various mythy permutations of each.)

Phoebe represents Grace.
Seline represents Fury.
Luna represents Fate.

But all three are all three.

So cooperating with the Archmage suited their Fury persona directly, but also fit in nicely with the other TWO aspects of their personas.

Not sure if you have answered this but if you have I am sorry to have repeated it. In TGC and by the end of the original show that you worked on it is shows that Xanatos has reformed now that he has Alexander.

1) Is he really reformed or is it just another ploy of his?

2) Why didn't he have the mutates turned back into humans if he was?

3) Would the mutates want to be turned back into humans? Being mutates let's them to help others better than when they were human.

4) Why did Xanatos's go after Derek to make him into Talon? I know that it was not some vindictive plan of his against Elisa since you have mentioned before that he isn't the sort to seek vengeance on someone.

Greg responds...

1. He hasn't reformed, but his priorities have shifted somewhat. He certainly feels kindly toward the Gargoyles, though that would never stop him from using them -- just from harming them.

2. I don't think he can.

3. Fang does not want to turn back. I think Talon, and maybe even Maggie and Claw have accustomed themselves as well. Though if presented with an actual bona fide opportunity to change back, it would be interesting to see if they took it.

4. Control. And means of control.

This isn't really a question at all. I just found that Carl Johnson has made the 14-minute "Gargoyles Suite" available on his web site, and it spans all the music themes heard in the episodes. There is also an original African-inspired track entitled "Panther Queen", as well as the main title themes for the Disney and ABC series. (I think that these are the same as the CDs from one of the Gatherings, but I can't be sure.)

Anyway, I thought that you'd want to know that the music is freely available now, and I'd bet that a lot of readers will be downloading it :) The address is http://www.swanderfulmusic.com/MP3/Default.asp?q=f&f=%2FCartoon%2FGargoyles

(If that link is mangled, you can find them by browsing Carl Johnson's pages at www.swanderfulmusic.com)
