It's been almost 25 years since Disney Afternoon debuted on television screens, and the impact of "the golden age" of Disney TV Animation is still felt today. Get ready to "spin it" with Greg Weisman (producer, creator of Gargoyles) Jymn Magon (co-creator Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers, creator of Talespin), Bob Schooley (co-creator, Kim Possible, co-ex producer Penguins of Madagascar), Mark McCorkle (Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, co-creator of Kim Possible) and Rob Paulsen (voice actor, Darkwing Duck, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Animaniacs) for raucous recollections and never-before-heard stories! Moderated by Aaron Sparrow (Darkwing Duck: The Duck Knight Returns)

Both panels are gonna be a lot of fun! Come and see!!

Hey Greg, for a random question that has NOTHING to do with spoilers or any of your shows.

As a fan of Kim Possible, since this will hopefully be answered by you by the time it's 10 year anniversary comes around:
1.) What's your favorite episode?
2.) Who's your favorite villain and why?

Greg responds...

1. I've seen many Kim episodes, but there are probably many more that I haven't seen. My favorite one that I wrote is "Big Bother", but I only wrote two, so that's not much of a sampling. And in any case, it's been a bit too long. I can't remember too much beyond the fact that I loved what I saw of the series.

2. Probably Drakken. He's fun.

Barbara Gordon aka "Babs" questions ( The last question is NOT a YJ question because I want to joke around.)

1. In YJ how long has Barbara lived in Gotham City or was she born in Gotham?

2. In YJ for the record, was Barbara born with blue eyes or was she wearing blue contact lenses and that she was born with green eyes?

3. In YJ, when did Barbara start wearing earrings?

4. Would you say that Barbara Gordon is "the Kim Possible of DC Comics"?, even though Christy Carlson Romano has never voiced her. I'm going to be very very honest with you Greg, if it wasn't for "KP", "Babs" here would never have been one of my most favourite DC heroines in the first place!

Greg responds...

1. Born there.

2. I don't know.

3. I don't know.

4. Uh... I have no response to this.

Conventions...

So I was invited to attend Kimvention 2012 - the new convention dedicated to the KIM POSSIBLE television series: http://kimvention2012.com/

I would have loved to attend, but unfortunately, I had already committed to Denver Comic Con the same weekend: http://www.denvercomiccon.com/

I'm really looking forward to Denver, but I do wish I were able to attend both.

Kimvention should be a lot of fun. And Kim Possible was a great series. So if you're anywhere near Anaheim this June, I'd recommend it.

And if you're anywhere near Denver, come see me at Denver Comic Con.

Besides Kim Possible have you worked with Christy Carlson Romano in any other cartoons? She's a great voice actress but very very underused. I hope you'll be able to work with her again.

Greg responds...

I've never worked with Christy. Though I freelanced a couple of Kim scripts, I didn't attend the recordings.

Firstly Greg, I've went back and started watching Kim Possible again while YJ was on a very long break and I have to admit her show still holds up very very well to this day plus it's still funny. I have a lot of KP questions, I would like to ask you.

1. Have you heard there's going to be a fan convention? It will be held on 8-10 June 2012 in Southern CA. You should tell Nicole Dubuc and Jamie Thomason that.

2. Do you know what Christy Carlson Romano and Will Friedle are currently working on? BTW I made a promise to all Kim Possible fans that any upcoming cartoon series that stars either those two, I will certainly watch it.

3. I'm not sure if you've watched the movie So The Drama, but did you know Jesse McCartney's songs "Why don't you kiss her" and "Get Your Shine On" were featured in that movie?

4. Do you have a favourite episode that Nicole Dubuc wrote?

5. Why didn't Jamie Thomason worked on Season 4 in voice casting? During the final scene/end credits in the Season 4 episodes, his name never popped up. It only said Lisa Schaffer.

6. Do you have any ideas what does Kim's one liners "So not the drama" and "Jinx! You owe me a soda!" suppose to mean? She always says it but I have no idea what does it mean?

7. What do you think were the best and funniest moments in Queen Bebe and Big Bother in your opinion?

8. In Big Bother, is Ron wealthy? He managed to buy so many bags of flour (and sugar) from Smarty Mart!

9. Do you have a favourite Christy Carlson Romano song?

10. Do you still listen to the theme song "Call Me Beep Me"? Trust me that song will never ever leave your head!

Thanks

Greg responds...

Okay, but let me just preface all this by pointing out that as much as I love Kim Possible, I barely worked on it. I think I wrote two freelance episodes, one of which was VERY rewritten by the producers (because I didn't quite get the tone of the show on my first shot). I've seen a bunch of episodes, but nowhere near all of them. And I had nothing to do with the production.

1. Um... okay.

2. No, I don't.

3. Didn't know, but that's cool.

4. Of Kim? No. I don't even know which ones she wrote - or whether or not I've seen them.

5. I don't know.

6. I'd need context.

7. I'd have to see them again.

8. Flour's not that expensive.

9. No. I'm not familiar with her oeuvre.

10. I don't go out of my way, but I agree it's catchy.

Will any Kim Possible voice actors be working on YJ? I only asked because you and Nicole Dubuc have written episodes for both shows.

Greg responds...

I'm sure there will be some overlap, but I don't have a good enough handle on who all did what voices on Kim to be certain.

I'm going to work on a review for The Spectacular Spider-Man episodes 1 and 2 later today. I'll probably review them in the same style I review the comics, but I have been working on some paragraph styled reviews on tv.com. So I thought I'd present some for some episodes of Gargoyles and the Kim Possible episode Big Bother and see what you think of how I do:

1. This is for the Gargoyles Series as a whole:

"A show worth watching, and owning. The current comics from Slave Labor Graphics is equally worth buying.

I probably couldn't do the series justice in my review, but I'll certainly try.

Like many, I enjoy the show for it's appealing characters and interesting stories. The show demonstrates originality in coming up with rarely used ideas or putting a spin on established cliches.

An example would be the episode "Future Tense". The episode at surface appears to be a copout as the events were a dream. When infact it serves to foreshadow future episode/comic story elements.

The show is also well balanced. While I do have a share of favorite adult cartoons, Gargoyles manages to be adult/mature without relying on adult content nonstop. It's serious without being depressing.

Here's hoping the comic will continue for a long time."

2. Possessions (This review of course predated #6 being released):
"Didn't expect to see an immediate follow up on Puck teaching Alexander the use of his powers. It was also fun to see the return of Coldstone and crew. Coldstone's appearance in the Himalayas will be explained in #6 of the Gargoyles comic series.

What helped to make the soul transfer interesting was the choice to keep Broadway, Angela and Brooklyn's voice the same. That decision payed off even more since Brooklyn's behavior was puzzling.

As far as the forshadowing goes, I'm embarassed to admit I didn't see the pairing between Broadway and Angela coming. I thought she would end up with Brooklyn."

3. The Journey:
The episode could have done without the opening monologue as it can't hold a candle to the "Previously On Gargoyles" segment.

It's easy to see the differences between this and the rest of the season. One being that this is the only episode to deal with Xanatos' amoral nature (that he can't be trusted completely). This episode also brought up more of the Gargoyles continuity than the remaining episodes.

Seeing Vinnie make peace with Goliath was a nice little twist. Still where the episode fails, the comic improves.

4. Kim Possible - Big Bother:
"I saw it on Disney Channel.com, and made sure to record it during it's premiere. Recently my stepsister had a baby last summer, she's really adorable. So, I can really understand the Stoppable's feelings towards Hana. Right up there with Alexander Xanatos, as one of the best animated babies introduced.

Favorite moments include Ron's attempt at taking care of a sack of flour and sugar, Ron breaking the news to Yori concerning him and Kim and of course the end of the episode."

So, are my paragraph reviews ok, good or needs more work?

Greg responds...

Hey, as long as your being honest, who am I to review your reviews?

On a much lighter note, I thought I'd comment on the Kim Possible you wrote. I saw it on Disney Channel.com, and am going to record it when it comes on (I'll be gone this evening). Overall, it's a pretty great episode, better than Queen Bebe (Not that I dislike that episode).

Recently my stepsister had a baby last summer, she's really adorable. So, I can really understand the Stoppable's feelings towards Hana. Right up there with Alexander Xanatos (as a baby).

To bad Ron had to go through all of that flour and of course sugar. Would his preference of Roman Numeral be a reference to the "Bricks of Fury III" in "Team Impossible"?

After some have pointed it out, I did catch the Gargoyles reference in there. That being the statues coming alive. Two questions on that:

1. Did you put any Gargoyle references in Queen Bebe? I would guess no as no one pointed it out, but you never know.

2. Any idea if Hana could say harassment?

I recall hearing that Queen Bebe was changed quite a bit from how you wrote the episode, did Big Bother turn out better in your opinion?

Greg responds...

1. Not that I recall.

2. Maybe someday we'll find out.

Queen Bebe turned out great I thought, it's just very different from what I wrote. But I'm the first to admit that I didn't quite have the voice of the show down in that one, so I understand why I was rewritten so heavily... (particularly considering that the whole Smashmouth subplot was something that came up AFTER my work on the episode was completed).

But Big Bother is MUCH closer to what I wrote initially. So obviously, I can take a bit more personal pride in that one. And I do think I had the voice of the show down better in this one.
