I have noticed that the episodes thus far aired of the excellent "The Spectacular Spider-Man" have titles that are thematically related to the episode in question and also across the small arcs of the series, viz. episodes four, five and six, all with the common theme of Spider-man contending with villains created at the Big Man's behest, have titles drawn from economics. The first season also had an general scientific theme to its titles as terms from evolutionary theory (1-3), physics (7-9), and psychology (9-13) also appear.

I rather liked that and am curious, provided that I have not erred in my interpretation, about who proposed the use of thematic titles and if the next season will have a similar pattern in its titles. I have guessed that you at least suggested the idea of thematic titles, which would fit with the alphabetical titles used for the second season of W.I.T.C.H., and hope that the practice will be repeated again, but drawn from something other than scienes, but only because I would find the diversity interesting.

Greg responds...

Yeah, the basic title scheme (though not all of the individual titles) was my idea. Each DVD has a title provided by Sony Home Entertainment, like "Attack of the Lizard" -- and also a title provided by us that fits "The Education of Peter Parker" theme. Our titles are:

BIOLOGY 101
ECONOMICS 101
CHEMISTRY 101
PSYCHOLOGY 101

And the first arc of Season Two will be...

ENGINEERING 101

I know, I know you're tired of hearing this question. But Amazon.com has a listing for Gargoyles Season 2: Volume 2. And it's never been there before. Of course this has no release date but the fact that it's up, does that mean it's being considered for release? Or is Amazon.com just screwing with us?

Greg responds...

Neither. (And if you know I'm tired of the question, why are you asking it? Especially since at least four people ahead of you in the ASK GREG queue had already asked it.)

Do you know if Brooklyn is right or left handed?

Greg responds...

Most animated characters are ambidextrous. So I'm leaning toward most gargoyles being ambidextrous.

I have been reading more about the Toa Nuva. I read that when the Toa Mata were drifting in the ocean for 1000 years their organic tissue dissolved. When they arrived on Mata Nui and put them selves back together did they look like that before or was that the result of being in the water for so long?

Greg responds...

I don't remember the answer to this question all these years later, since as I've said MANY times, I only briefly worked on Bionicle. And frankly, I'm not sure I EVER knew the answer to this particular question.

At the end of the "The Edge", Xanatos calls Goliath "the greatest warrior alive", do you agree with that statement? If not who do you think is the greatest warrior alive in Gargoyles?

Greg responds...

I'm not interested in that kind of question, I'm afraid. It's not the same as saying "Who is the fastest runner?" or "Who weighs the most?" (Questions which also don't interest me all that much.) I.e. something that's objectively quantifiable. Any battle is at least partially situational. I don't think this kind of thing can be defined in absolute terms.

Was Eddie Brock originally planned as in the comics, as a shallow photographer exposed for his lack of talent? Or was he planned as a childhood friend of Peter like in USM all along?

Greg responds...

You mean in Spectacular Spider-Man? If so, then what we planned from day one is exactly the same as what we did from episode one.

Hello!

I've been a huge fan of Gargoyles since it first came out way back in 94 when I was just a kid. I loved it all! The characters, the stories, etc. My brother loved it just as much as I did too. So when we found out that it was being continued in comic book form (we're utter geeks by the way) we were so excited! And we've been duly collecting the comic with each new release. I love Bad Guys! And I can't wait for Rock of Ages! So I have a silly pointless question for you. Just to warn you ahead of time. : )

I love the new gargoyles Coco and Amp! And I really love where I think/hope you're going with Amp and Lexington ^_^. But it's a shame that we won't get to hear them speak and what not in animated form. So I was curious if you had your pick of any voce actor/actress in all the world who would you have to voice them. And why?

I warned you it was silly and pointless. Anyway! I love the comic and I hope you keep up the great work. Also you've done a fantastic job with Spectacular Spiderman. I can't wait for Season 2!

Thnak you for your time!

Greg responds...

At this stage, I don't see much benefit in me revealing the voices I'm imagining in my head. If my picks match what you're imagining, great, but if they don't, it can't help but leave a bad taste. And even if we do match up, down the road if I ever had to/got to cast the two characters and the actors I'm currently imagining aren't available, then the actors I did cast would (or at least might) find out they were second choices.

Dear Mr. Weisman i dont really have a question but for the last 2 years i have been working on a gargoyle movie based on your tv show i am finished with it and i would like to talk with you about doing a movie i am a big fan like every one else and i want to make this movie a reality and i think with your help we can give the fans a true movie that will live with everyone please respond to this sir i just see movies like transformers and they make a lot of money and i think its time to start a movie please sir i will do whatever it takes to gain your trust on this please email me at mcjam1803@hotmail.com i can send you a copy of the script so you can read it first well thank you for your time sir have a good day.

Greg responds...

Justin, I admire your dedication, but I can't read your script for a number of reasons:

1. I have my own ideas, so I don't read fan-versions of the characters to protect myself legally.

2. There's really no point in MY reading it. I don't control the property; Disney does. I've had numerous discussions over the years with Touchstone (i.e. Disney) features executives, trying to convince them to do a live action movie. There was a period where they actively pursued development of the script, going through at least ten writers (including myself and Michael Reaves), but right now they don't seem too interested. I haven't given up, but reading your script -- no matter how good it was -- could hardly make me more passionate about the property or give me any more ability to convince the powers that be.

3. You're, of course, welcome to try to convince Disney to read your script. But in that case, you're in essence putting yourself in competition with me. A situation, which as you can imagine, I'd be less than thrilled about.

Hello. Since this is my first question I feel obligated to state that I've been a Gargoyles follower since the show's original airing, and even though I don't live in the US anymore, I still manage to order the comic books. I particularly like how coherent the gargoyles universe it. Too often I'm confused by bizarre universes that fiction creates (specifically comic books), and I'm please to find myself being able to recall what happened to all the characters and what's going on and realize that it makes sense (recall some of the more confusing story-lines in the marvel comics of the 90s that nearly required a long-winded nerd debate just to remind yourself of what's going on). Also, Keith David's voice knocked the show up a few notches on the cool scale.

Anyway, I have a number of questions that I will send from time to time when I find ways to word them so they like real inquiries rather than fan boy rants, so I'll start with something simple:

Did you originally create Gargoyles with the intention of it being a children's show? I felt at times like I was watching a watered down version of what the show was intended to be, which was weird and a little unsatisfying at times.

Greg responds...

Nothing was watered down -- and frankly I can't even think what gave you that impression. The show was developed from day one to appeal to kids. What we did simultaneously was write the show on multiple levels so that in addition to kids, we would also appeal to tweens, teens, college students and adults.
