Are we going to expect more Disney voice actors to be working on Young Justice like Jim Cummings for example?

BTW did you know that is really Ron Stoppable voicing Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) on B:TBTB. Best portrayal of the third and current Blue Beetle EVER!

Greg responds...

Are there ANY other portrayals of the Reyes/Blue Beetle?

Anyway, I'm sure there'll be plenty of overlap.

Will Jason Marsden and Will Friedle reprise their roles from Batman: Brave and the Bold onto Young Justice (I understand Speedy has already been taken) or do I have to wait and see?
They did a very perfect job at voicing those lesser known DC characters from that show and they really deserved to voice them again in future DC cartoons and movies.

Greg responds...

I don't know who Jason and Will played in B&TB...?

I was just wondering have you seen any of DC Universe movies that have been released since 2007? And if so what did you think of them?

Also you've written a few episodes of Batman: The Brave and The Bold, do you watch that show regularly?

Greg responds...

I've seen a handful of the DC releases, and generally thought highly of them.

I watched ALL the Brave & the Bolds at first, but lately I haven't had the time to see all but a few.

Is there any recurring voice talents from Batman: The Brave and the Bold on Young Justice, or is it too early to confirm it?

Greg responds...

I'm sure there are. But I won't pretend to be intimately familiar with all the voice talent on B&TB.

I guess calling for patience is out of the question...

Hey Greg,
I am really looking forward to Young Justice. My question is more of a personal one. Basically, how happy are you truly to be working on YJ? Yes, you're happy to have a gig again but are you really passionate about this show as you were for your past stuff? And do you feel YJ will have enough legs to get past 26 episodes? I know I can't wait to see it and I feel this has the makings of being something very special.

One final thing I want to touch on is that I want to applaud you on the script you did for Batman: The Brave and the Bold. I thought "Requiem for a Scarlet Speedster!" was FANTASTIC! I really enjoyed it.

Thanks so much for all you do.

Later.

Greg responds...

Thanks. Speedster was really the brainchild of the B&TB brain trust, James and Michael, but I was very proud to be handed the story and tried my best to do it justice. I was very pleased with how it came out. I'm glad you were too.

As for your Young Justice question... I'm resisting the temptation to find it insulting. I KNOW that wasn't your intent. (Though if you think about it, you might see why that's my knee-jerk reaction.) So, flat-out: I'm extremely enthusiastic and passionate about this series. I think we're doing great work, and I think/hope the audience will agree. There's no doubt in my mind that I could continue to do this series LONG after the corporate types decide they're through.

With "Requiem for a Scarlet Speedster" having now aired, I have a few questions about your involvement on it:

1. Was this an episode idea that James Tucker and/or Michael Jelenic came to you with, or did you come to them with it?
2. We know of your fandom of various heroes like Spider-Man, but what of Flash? Are you well-read on the speedster's history? And if so, what stands out as your favorite runs on the character? (Let alone WHICH Flash.)
3. In writing for another's series, how much effort do you put into tempering your own writing style so that it matches the whole show's tone?
4. Was there anything of note from your script that didn't make the final cut?

Thank you in advance for your answers. The episode was fantastic, BTW.

Greg responds...

1. I think it was James' idea. But, yeah, in any case, James and Michael brought the idea to me. I loved it, though.

2. I do love Flash. (I love a lot of super-heroes, frankly.) I'm a big fan of Jay, Barry and Wally. I'm fairly well-versed in older stuff. Less so on the more recent stuff. I like a lot of what my buddy Cary Bates did with Barry. Gardner Fox's work on Jay was cool too. And I've always like Wally as Kid Flash. But also enjoyed some of Mike Baron's stuff when post-crisis Wally graduated to be Flash.

3. I try very hard to match the tone of any series I'm working on.

4. There was a bit from the outline (never scripted) that I really liked, where Joan serves Jay and Batman coffee in the Garrick kitchen and then leaves them alone to talk. I would have liked to have seen that. But in general, I was really THRILLED with how the episode turned out. The Death-Race episode was fun. But this one really worked for me. It's my favorite of the three B&TBs I worked on.

A question about Batman: Brave and the Bold.

What was your reaction when you found out that Will Friedle and John Dimaggio are working together for the second time in a cartoon?

Greg responds...

I only wrote a couple episodes of B&B (and came up with the story idea for a third). I don't think either Will or John were in either of my episodes. I know John played Aquaman. But I had no idea Will was in the series. So I guess my reaction to it is... to shrug?

SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2010 and ASK GREG

Hey gang,

Well, I've finally caught up with the backlog here at ASK GREG. I'm going to take a short Ask Greg vacation, and then we'll be reopening the site soon... i.e. on the Monday (July 26th) AFTER San Diego Comic-Con 2010.

As always, I ask that before you post a question you do your best to make sure it's not a question that's been answered in the archives already AND that it's not a question that someone posted just before you. You can also try asking your question first in the Station 8 Comment Room, as the fans know a LOT of answers already.

We're just trying to avoid flooding the site with so many questions, that I'm immediately backlogged again.

Meanwhile, I will be at Comic-Con next week. Subject to change, here's my current schedule:

THURSDAY, JULY 22, 2010
10 - 11:30am - Mecha-Nation signing at the Kizoic Booth. (We'll be premiering the first issue.)

FRIDAY, JULY 23, 2010
10:30-11:30 am - Brave and the Bold/Young Justice Panel. (We'll be premiering our first Young Justice footage in a mini-panel jam-packed with revelations!)

2 - 4 pm -Mecha-Nation signing at the Kizoic Booth.

SATURDAY, JULY 24, 2010
11:30am - 1pm - Gargoyles signing at the SLG Booth.

3 - 4 pm - DC Showcase panel. (We'll be previewing some footage from the Green Arrow DVD short that I wrote.)

5:30 - 6:30pm - DC Showcase signing. (Location TBD).

SUNDAY, JULY 25, 2010
10-11am - Mecha-Nation signing at the Kizoic Booth.

11am - 12:30pm - Gargoyles signing at the SLG Booth.

Please stop by and say hello!

Hey, I just watched Batman: The Brave and The Bold, like I do every week, and was pleasantly surprised to see you had written the episode ("Death Race to Oblivion!") Great ep, loved it. My questions are these...

1) How did this come about? Did James Tucker and staff approach you, or vice versa?

2) Were you a fan of the show prior to your involvement? If so, was there any particular episode that was a favorite of yours?

Anyway, fantastic ep again, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more Gargoyles comics down the road. Hope you and your family have a safe and happy holiday season!

Greg responds...

1. I let story editor Michael Jelenic know I was available, and he later called on me to write a couple of episodes.

2. I hadn't seen it until I got the first gig, but I then watched every existing episode prior to starting work. I think it's great fun. And it's hard not to pick the musical episode as my favorite.

Greg, how come in the Spectacular Spider-Man it doesent use realistic gunshot sounds? But, Batman: The Brave and The Bold it uses realistic gunshot sounds, other Batman cartoon shows.

Greg responds...

Different networks have different rules, I guess.
