I am a Gargoyles fan too and only found out about the yearly convention just last year. Since i'm my own gardian now( just turned 18). I really want to go to the convention. Is there an official site, and where and when is it located at? like the others said, "there are tons of gargoyles fans out there still" but not too many people know about the convention or what is happening to it's great creator. I hope once again, there will be a movie, 3rd or 4th series of gargoyles. It was getting so good.

Greg responds...

Well, Vernice,

I hope this SLOW moving site isn't the only place you asked this question. You'd have gotten a much quicker response from the comment room.

Anyway, here's the website:

http://gathering.gargoyles-fans.org/

I hope you can make it. But as I write this, it's less than two days away.

The convention is June 22 - 25 in Los Angeles, CA at the Universal Sheridan. We have a ton of events planned. Workshops, panels, Q&As on every aspect of Gargoyles and on a couple other shows as well, including ROUGHNECKS, the Starship Trooper Chronicles and 3x3 EYES.

We have over fifty guests attending. Including all of the Gargoyles producers (myself, Frank Paur, Dennis Woodyard, Bob Kline). People who developed the series. Artists who worked on it. Post-Production people. Writers and Story Editors. Etc.

And VOICE ACTORS:

We have the voices of Goliath. Of Brooklyn, Lexington and Broadway. Of Owen. Of Obsidiana and Griff. Of Duncan & Canmore. Of Odin. Of Petros Xanatos. Of Maria Chavez. Of the Magus. Of Maol Chalvim. Of the Renaissance Hunter. Of Natsilane and the Coyote Trickster. Of young Peter Maza. Of Officer Morgan. Of King Kenneth II. Of Hollywood, Brentwood and Malibu. Of Goon #2. Of Bruno. We've got the voice of Vinnie.

This is really a once in a lifetime event.

I hope to see you all there. Soon.

Gathering Question:

Greg,

Recently, the Gathering committee announced the opprotunity to send in money for a "non-attending supporting membership". Will such memberships count towards the 500 people you need to impress the Disney Execs?

Greg responds...

I thought I answered this.

No, not directly. But what it will do (in addition to donating money to the worthy "Make a Wish" cause) is help pay for making the con even better. That is, help pay in advance. This is important. The more events we can GUARANTEE, because we have the money in advance to pay for them, the more people (both internationally and locally) we'll be able to get. And that will, I guarantee, raise our attendance list.

Obviously, I'd rather people attend. But if you JUST CAN'T. Then it would be great if you'd buy a supporting membership. Helps us. Helps Make A Wish. Earns you a t-shirt, and just maybe a place in history...

Some disturbing news came to my attention: That the estimated Gathering population is only 31% of its 500 person goal. Those numbers are bad for LA. Perhaps when they bring it back to VA Beach on the "East Coast" again, more people will attend. Maybe me.

Greg responds...

Jim, the numbers could definitely be better. Though you should keep in mind, that L.A.'s pre-paid membership sales have ALREADY topped attendance (both pre-paid and walk-ins) from each of the previous four gatherings. And we're still four+ months out from the L.A. convention.

Of course, our goal is to top attendance of all four previous gatherings COMBINED. That'll be tough. But with walk-ins, I bet we're darn close.

Now obviously, I'd like to see Virginia Beach do just as well or even better. But there's no doubt in my mind that L.A. is going to be the biggest and best Gathering so far. (Really, you don't want to miss it.)

You've said in a recent reply "One way everyone can help is by attending (or supporting) the annual gargoyles convention: THE GATHERING." I noted the word "supporting" with great interest, since the chances of my actually attending are slim. What do you mean by this? I probably won't be able to help by coming to a Gathering, but I still really want to help.

PS- Sorry if that "Mutant Cure" post of mine a while back seemed critical. I wasn't trying to be.

Greg responds...

Check out:

http://gathering.gargoyles-fans.org/supporting.htm

To learn more about supporting memberships to the Gathering.

Here's the gist of it:

Supporting Memberships

Do you love "Gargoyles" and want to show your support for The Gathering, but feel left out because there's just no way you can attend this year's convention? Would you like to help our charity, Make-A-Wish, too? Now you can!

The Gathering of the Gargoyles doesn't want ANYONE to be left out. With a non-attending supporting membership, you can help celebrate "Gargoyles" AND help our charity, as well. Every non-attending supporting member will receive a certificate of appreciation, and have their name listed in our convention booklet. Plus, in a random drawing to be held during the Awards Banquet, one lucky supporting member will also be chosen to receive a FREE Gathering t-shirt!

But that's not all! For every $15.00 supporting membership purchased, The Gathering of the Gargoyles also pledges to donate $5.00 to the Los Angeles Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

And if you're wondering what happens if you find out at the last minute that you ARE able to attend the con... don't worry! A non-attending supporting membership is FULLY UPGRADEABLE to a regular full attending membership at ANY TIME, so if you are able to make it to the con, you've lost nothing! To upgrade, you'll pay only the difference between the $15.00 supporting membership price and the current full attending membership price.

Again, check out the Gathering website for more info.

About Hunter's Moon 3, this is how I remembered the final battle: Goliath was pounding his fists on Jon's armor. His helm was cracking and was about break. Then Goliath rip the collar off and that's where Elisa came in to stop the fight.

That was the first time I saw the episode 5 years ago, at least how I remembered it. I seen it recently this year, but the scene changed: The pounding scene was removed and only the collar ripping was left. Did my memory play some tricks on me? Do you know if the scene I describe first was the original sequence or my tv station edited the scene?

Greg responds...

It's been awhile for me too, I'm afraid. And my memory isn't quite that specific. My tapes tend to be the version originally aired. Not those later corrected or re-edited by Toon Disney. I'm slowly rewatching all the episodes. Remind me when I get close.

Or come to the Gathering in Los Angeles this June. Lots of tapes there.

Hi there

You have a lot of questions to answer already so I'll try to be brief but I doubt I'll succeed.
How did the Gargoyles series come to Disney? Did you aproach them?
Also, Disney has cancelled some fantastic shows in the past, what was the reason for them cancelling Gargoyles, and will it ever come back in series or movie form?

On www.imdb.com there is a Gargoyles movie with the date 1999 on it but no other info? Which one is this?

Lastly, I think we should storm the Disney execs and get them to release the Gargoyles series and movies on Special edition DVD'S! Sometimes I just can't understand their thinking!

Thanks

Greg responds...

I was already working for Disney as a development executive when my team and I created and developed the show.

As to why it was cancelled and whether it will come back...

I've answered that so many times. Did you even glance at the archives?

Briefly, it was cancelled because the syndication package was complete and the third season (on ABC) performed poorly in the ratings. And I do hope it will come back and am working conscientiously to bring it back.

I don't know what imdb.com is. So I have no response to that question.

"Storming" isn't such a good idea. But petitions wouldn't hurt. But I'll tell you, the best thing you can do is to attend the Gargoyles convention this June in Los Angeles. If we get a high enough attendance, we'll invite the Disney Execs and let them see first hand what a huge following the series has.

Hi, Greg. For the Gargoyles "The Gathering Tour" will you be coming to Boston anytime soon? I live in New Hampshire, so anywhere in New England would be great, because it's driveable. Thanks! :)

Greg responds...

As I answered earlier today, I don't decide where the conventions take place. YOU DO! Fans organize these things.

The con is planned for Los Angeles this June.

And for Virginia Beach, Virginia in the summer of 2002.

There are no specific plans beyond that.

Any chance the Gathering next year or a year following might end up in

1. Philadelphia?
2. Boston?
3. New York?

Thanks.

Greg responds...

We've had two Gatherings in New York already (1997, 1998). But really it's about local fans wanting the convention and working their butts off to put forward a viable proposal. And then, if they get the con, working their butts off even more to put on a great show.

Every year a tremendous amount of work is done by a small group of people to get the convention up and off the ground. And you know, mostly the thanks they get is a lot of complaining. And it really bothers me.

(I know this wasn't really your question, but I feel like ranting.)

Con staff decisions are made with care. With thought. With awareness of multiple variables. Criticism comes with little care, thought or awareness of multiple variables.

I'm personally very grateful to the staffs of the first four conventions. Nothing's flawless, but I had a great time at each one.

And as I've been more involved than usual in the planning for G2001 in Los Angeles, I know, I KNOW, that the con staff has been working triple time to get stuff done and make it the best Gathering yet. It might be nice for someone to say thank you on occasion. Some of the backbiting I've seen and heard about is very hurtful and patently unfair.

O.K. End of rant. Sorry, Nyrtleka, none of that was directed at you, of course.

Now, to answer your question, I believe that G2002 is scheduled to take place in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Not Philly, NYC or Boston, but it's east coast, if that's what you were looking for. As for 2003, the process to choose that con's location is some time in the distance. But if you want it to be someplace specific, then get your act together and put together a proposal that is just too good to pass on.

I would really prefer to be making a content based comment here, but I still have to catch up quite a bit and don't want to ask something already answered. So here goes...

With all the guests coming to the con, (which I am trying my best to get to this time), would you consider writing a small Gargoyle vignette (either storyline or parody) for the voice talent to read? If some of the guest artists could be persuaded to make a few sketches to go along with it, (and blowing them up to audience viewable sizes at a Kinkos or the like), it would be the closest thing to new programming we will have had in years:)

Greg responds...

We're talking about all sorts of options for the radio play this year. Whatever we do, it'll hopefully be fun.

Is there a limit to the number of Gatherings one can attend?

Greg responds...

Of course not.

I've been to all of them:

New York 1997
New York 1998
Dallas 1999
Orlando 2000

And I'll be attending

Los Angeles 2001

And I'll keep attending as long as you guys want me there.

Hope to see you in L.A. in June.
