I was thinking about this earlier, and I'm not necessarily looking for an absolute "THIS IS CANON!" gospel answer, but why do you think Broadway really got into genre flicks like "Showdown"? Or rather, if this would be less abstract, what exactly propelled the decision to make Broadway a genre fan?

Lex and Brooklyn seem to be into that kind of stuff as well (Brooklyn even namedrops Quantum Leap during his first TimeDance), but with Broadway it was a push into a significant portion of his character arc. What about genre fiction resonated with Broadway that didn't quite click with Lexington and Brooklyn (at least, not to the same degree)?

Greg responds...

I honestly don't know what to say beyond ... it felt right for Broadway.

Young Justice Comic Book

FYI - Young Justice Staff Writer Kevin Hopps and I have written issue #0 of the Young Justice comic book, which will be in continuity with the television series, telling stories set either between episodes of the tv show and/or telling the same stories from different points of view. You don't have to watch the show to enjoy the comic or read the comic to enjoy the show, but I guarantee you'll get even more out of both if you take the time to experience both.

After issue #0, issues #1-6 will be writtien by Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani to help us out while Kevin and I are swamped with the scripting, pre-production and post-production of the series. But Kevin, Brandon Vietti and I are advising Art & Franco and artist Mike Norton on Issues #1-6 to keep everything in continuity.

After that, Kevin Hopps and I will be taking over the writing chores on the Young Justice comic full time, starting with issue #7.

And by the way, Mike's art so far on the interior pages of issue #0 is just gorgeous!!

Hi Greg. I'm happy to hear you found a project after Spectacular Spider-Man (excellent show), and I'm even happier to learn it's DC. Two questions, though I understand if you can't answer them:

1.) Do you know whether you guys are locked into the same "65 and done" episode format that action cartoons have dealt with since the early 90's, or are you just focusing on this first season right now?

I ask because I believe this has the potential to be people's gateway into the DCU--but it would suck if the series were canceled after just over two seasons.

2.) I notice there are a lot of references about Young Justice trying to include as much of the DCU as possible. Plus I noticed DC even gave you guys an Earth (yay...they get some use now). I can't help wondering...is this by any chance the start of a new DC animated universe? Or is Young Justice just set in E16 and that's it?

Again, I understand if you choose not to answer these questions because they would give away something or you just don't know the answer to them. Thanks for your time.

Greg responds...

1. Pretty much just focused on the first season of 26 episodes, though we have PLENTY of ideas for both the comics and a second season (should we get a pick-up).

2. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Okay, I'm fairly certain I've gotten all of my nerd rage about Young Justice out of my system, so I'll actually be more hyped to watch YJ than I was to watch Avengers, and I'm fairly certain it'll be great. Still, two questions are bugging me. Just a bit:

1.) I keep hearing that this is a "young DC Universe", but the proof of that is always that Clark Kent only became Superman ten years ago, and Bruce became Batman nine years ago. Doesn't that place this universe as fairly "old", since that would put the both of them near their 30's? This is probably kind of difficult to answer, I'm just curious as to how your timeline works--"New Earth" Superman and Batman are pretty much perpetually 35, but I'm guessing your Superman and Batman (and DCU) won't have that problem?

2.) Does it bug you at all that your premiere is next month, but the actual series doesn't start for (at best) two months? I was kinda happy the show was premiering on my birthday, but it bummed me out when I learned we wouldn't see anymore until 2011.

Greg responds...

1. I'm not too clear on the question. I realize that time is somewhat elastic by necessity in the current DC comic book universe. But if you look at it objectively, a Superman who is in his early thirties and has only been wearing the cape for a decade, with all the other heroes following after him makes our Earth-16 fairly young in continuity.

2. Doesn't bug me at all.

Hello Mr. Weisman,

my name is Jackson, and I am an avid fan of The Spectacular Spider-Man. So the first thing I would like to say, even though you've probably heard it heaps of times over, is that The Spectacular Spider-Man was the best adaptation of Spider-Man to date, and in my opinion the best cartoon I've ever seen (and I've seen a fair few). I could go to great lengths to describe just how amazing a thing it was. I was devastated beyond belief when I heard that TSSM was cancelled. It truly was masterpiece.

And now that I've said that, my question. It concerns a character I believe you should be quite familiar with; Donald Menken. Being the fan that I am, I have watched the episodes many times, and Mr Menken interested me. My main question about him is, in the episodes that he appears, is he meant to be a character who really just does what he's told, or does he have any sort of initiative? I mean, for Norman to trust him enough to show him globulin green AND host the rhino specs auction (which are both pretty dangerous things to share), there'd have to be something about him that Norman recognised as making him a trustworthy confidant. What was this quality?

Thanks so much for your time. Maybe more questions in the future.

Greg responds...

Well, I'll mostly leave this for your interpretation, but I think Menken demonstrated various qualities to Norman Osborn (not all of which may have been visible in the limited screen time we could afford the character), including loyalty, intelligence, steadfastness, initiative, unperterbability, etc.

What inspired the Gargoyles episode A lighthouse in the Sea and the improtant message of reading? Was it tricky to make without sounding like after school special? (It's a really great episode by the way.)

Greg responds...

It was a topic we all felt strongly about, but it also made sense coming out of character that Broadway and Hudson wouldn't know how to read (for very different reasons) given their backgrounds and personalities. If that hadn't been the case, we wouldn't have done the story. As for the quality of the execution -- and I wouldn't knock after school specials so monolithically, as some were truly great -- we always just strived to do our best. I'm glad this worked for you.

Hi Greg, first of all i want to say that Spectacular Spiderman was the best incarnation of the character i have seen outside of the comic books, and its a shame that it lasted only two seasons. i have a couple of questions if you dont mind, hopefully you will be able to answer them, if not i understand, you are a very busy man after all.

1) I was really amazed by the quality of the animation and the character designs, it looks even better than the other DC movies that i have seen. How do you maintain that standard of quality in a weekly series? All tha animation is done in the US?

2) Is Josh Keaton voicing Barry Allen? It sounded like him but maybe im wrong, he did an outstanding job as Peter Parker, hopefully he will have a role in the series

Thank you for your time, as a fellow animator im really glad that we can still have some classic 2D animation to look foward to, Best of luck Mr Weisman

Greg responds...

I'm a little confused if we're discussing Spider-Man or Young Justice here...

1. For both series, all the animation was done/is being done in Seoul, Korea. The pre-production was/is all done in Los Angeles. (Though on YJ, some storyboards are being done in Korea.) Final word on quality control was with myself and Vic Cook on Spidey; myself and Brandon Vietti on YJ.

2. No. George Eads is our Barry Allen, though I'm a huge fan of Josh's, of course, and hope to use him on YJ.

You and Brandon Vietti have said a couple times at conventions that since Miss. Martian is 16 Martian years old that means she is about 48 years old in Earth years (or older). Now, is this really her Earth age that will be used in the show or is this just you guys describing her age as generally being much older than the other kids because of the Martian time difference?

If the former, using the real year difference of Mars and Earth, she would have to be 25 Martian years old in order to be 48 in Earth years and the real equivalent of 16 Martian years is about 30 Earth years. Unless for some reason the Mars in this universe is slightly farther away than our Mars.

Everything on the show so far seems so well thought out, I want to believe you guys didn't over look a seemingly important detail like this.

Greg responds...

Your confusing astronomy with biology.

Martians age approximately three times slower than Earth humans do.

Miss Martian is 48 Earth years old, i.e. although she was born on Mars, the date on Earth at the time of her birth was 48 years ago.

I haven't done the math to equate that to the Martian Astronomical Year, i.e to figure out the amount of revolutions Mars has taken around the Sun since she was born.

But that's not the point. The point is that biologically, she's the equivalent of a 16-year-old adolescent.

By the same token -- in our series -- Martian Manhunter was born 135 Earth years ago, but is the biological equivalent of a 45-year-old male. How many Martian Astronomical Years ago he was born is -- again -- a math equation I haven't bothered to compute, because it's immaterial.

I guess the simplest comparison is the classic (if not exactly accurate) notion of "dog-years", i.e. the idea that a dog ages about seven dog-years for every one human year. So that a ten year old dog is about the equivalent of a seventy year old human.

For us a ten year old Martian is about the equivalent of a 3.3 year old human.

Which is basically to say, that the show IS well thought out, and we didn't overlook a seemingly important detail like this. We were simply talking about biology, not astronomy.

As I mentioned before, I get all the names mixed up: Legion of Doom, Injustice League, Injustice Unlimited, Injustice Society, Secret Society of Super-Villains, etc.

I can't quite remember which group consisted of which villains and/or appeared in which series or story.

Forgive me for being dated, but I have a Spidey question. In rereading some of my collected editions of the Lee/Ditko era, I realized that Peter Parker was established as a high school senior. In Spec. Spidey, he is an underclassmen (I forget if he's a freshman or sophomore). Why the change?

Greg responds...

He's a junior actually. As for the reason, it's fairly simple. Stan and Steve kept Pete a high school senior for a LONG time. Years. Since we wanted to play the passage of time as an element in the series, but still wanted the opportunity to tell many of those stories (and more) while Pete was still in high school, we started him as a junior to give us some breathing room.

I've finally been authorized to post what many of you have known for some time: the one-hour Young Justice pilot premiere is scheduled for Friday, November 26th at 7pm on Cartoon Network!

Brandon, myself and the entire Young Justice crew (and even our bosses) are ridiculously proud of how this almost-movie has turned out! If you like super-heroes... if you like shows about teens coming of age... if you like action... if you like drama... if you like a little humor spiced in... and mostly if you like ANYTHING I've ever done in the past, then I really believe you'll like Young Justice.

So check it out!

Anubis is a death god, is strongly connected to death, and apparently has power over death (whether or not he chooses to use that power). But is he able to use magic that is not connected to death? Is he limited to only using and reversing the effects of "death magic," or can he mostly do anything he wants, magically speaking?

Thank you.

Hey Greg. Big fan of your work. Super-excite about the upcoming JOUNG JUSTICE series. I also run the titanstower.com site so I hope some of my info has been useful in researching characters. I recently attended your panel at the NYCC and had a few (hopefully non-spoilery) questions.

1-- You and Brandon referred to Aqualad by his civilian/given name, which sounded like "Calderon" or "Calder" for short. Is that the correct spelling? Can you clarify his name?

2-- You mentioned a desire to use Captain Atom. Have you considered a story around Bombshell from the Teen Titans? She's connected to Captain Atom by power source and through some government ties.

3-- You mentioned pulling from different eras of YOUNG JUSTICE and TEEN TITANS of the 60s, 70s and the NEW TEEN TITANS of the 80s. Is this more in just building the characters? Or do you plan to adapt some of the comic stories into animated form (for example, as the TT series adapted "Judas Contract")?

thanks Greg!

Greg responds...

1. Kaldur'ahm. Kaldur for short.

2. Bombshell was on our master list, but if she enters the story it won't be in the first season.

3. Without getting into specifics, we are adapting some existing stories and coming up with new ones.

Greetings Greg,
I've read that Angela and Broadway will/would eventually have three hatchlings of their own at some point in their future. Now, while I am VERY happy for the two lovebirds, I can't help but wonder if their different upbringings and views on parentage & child raising would prove an issue for them. I mean, Broadway was raised in the traditional Gargoyle way and never knew who his actual biological parents were, nor showed any interest in learning who they were, & I've even read that if he ever did find out Hudson is his dad it wouldn't really change anything between them (which is the norm for most garg clans). However, Angela was raised by humans and cares very much about her blood ties with Goliath & Demona, wanting her father to acknowledge their bond & rejoicing once he does & over time their bond deepens, & wishing to bring Demona back into the light because of her connection to her despite being aware of her dark & troubled nature. I guess what I'm saying is, Angela strikes me as someone who'd want to raise her children personally & form a strong mother/child bond with them whereas Broadway would likely treat them the same way any gargoyle of an older generation would treat those of a younger generation. So I guess my question is, would Angela's & Broadway's different upbringings cause some problems for them in their relationship & in raising their hatchlings? Or would Angela convince Broadway to form a real parental bond with the kids as Goliath has formed with her? I can't really see Angela NOT making her blood ties known to her kids while Broadway just keeps quiet about it. Hope my questions make sense, this is my first time doing this, & thankyou for your time.

Greg responds...

Probably fewer problems than you think. They'd BOTH still behave as parents to all eggs hatched. How is that going to differ between them?

In any case, these are issues that will hopefully be explored in the years to come.

2. Gwen was able to create a golem-dog-creature like her foe Charmcaster did in the present. How did she learn to do that?
3. There was an alien at Ken's party that looked and sounded like Billy from "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy". Did you have anything to do with that, or was the character just made that way in the animation/voicing process?

Laura 'ad astra' Sack writes...

A recent question about the relationship between Hudson and Demona got me thinking...

There was one off note in the question (the rest of the analysis was pretty cool)- Hudson would not have any discomfort at the idea that his rookery children were mated to each other. Given that the chance of multiple births is statistically zero and the strong predilection to marry within ones own rookery there is nearly no chance of biological incest ever happening so there would be no sibling taboo.

I recalled a factotum that caught my attention a few months back- Even the most gung-ho kibutzes in Israel got rid of true communal child raising in the 70's because their children were forming sibling bonds and not marrying. Of the thousands of children raised in the system, about 30 married within their own community and not even one married within his or her age group. (err... I suppose, by definition, two would be the minimum for that....) These children were raised with the intention of being future potential spouses but humans are hardwired not to look at siblings that way, even none biological siblings. A similar problem arises in some endangered animal sanctuaries - I remember a documentary mentioning that if male and female rhinos are housed together they eventually stop mating completely - it may have been anthropomorphizing, but they called it developing a sibling relationship. Obviously there are degenerates and incest does happen, Egyptian royalty was designed with sibling marriage, but we are biologically wired against it even when it is not based on blood and therefore dangerous on a Darwinian level.

It makes sense that Gargates, having evolved as very different species with different circumstances would be fundamentally different at times, but they are so very similar in some ways is it surprising when the differences pop up.

1) Do gargoyles have an incest taboo or does it just not come up?
2) If they do not have it, or, at least no strong one, what do they think of it when it occurs with humans? (I don't mean abuse, rather, for example, if they read about Egyptian kings marrying siblings does it give them pause or it just passes as an oddity.)
3) Are there any other instances that come to mind of there being a basic difference between humans and gargoyles? Not a culturally based one - or if it is culturally, it as outgrowth of their biological reality.

Sorry this last one is so vague. It is hard to think of examples. You once answered that racism puzzles Goliath. It makes sense that a species that seems to have nearly uinlimited skin color possibiilities even within a small and relatively isolated population would think the human skin tone based racism is plain odd. (Granted, gargoyles might have their own version of nonsensicle racism that makes no sense to humans.) I can think of where similar differences would be rooted- they are completely nocturnal, they have wings, the do not share the sleeping experience in any way etc…- but it still seems more the sort of thing that occasionally pops up and surprises you. Maybe...a creature with usable wings would be hardwired against agoraphobia or fear of heights. err. Maybe, not so much, they can still fall if their wings get bound up, so at minimum the concept of falling might lurk somewhere even in their minds.

thanks

Greg responds...

1. For the biological reasons you stated above, it's a non-issue. Obviously, some rookery siblings develop sibling relationships. Others do not.

2. It depends on their understanding level.

3. Not at the moment.

First off congrats on the new series...
Secondly, I would like to comment on the Green Arrow featurette... It was brilliant, it perfectly showed Green Arrow for what he is... Human (probably the most human of any costumed hero, no powers, not an expert martial artist, or worlds greatest detective, just a guy trying to make a difference) I sincerely thank you for your interpretation. If you were the writer on GA/BC it probably wouldnt have needed a reboot, you seem to really get him, and his relationship to Dinah.
Okay, first question... will the Shorts DVD in November have a longer version on it?

2) Are you personally a fan of either Green Arrow or Black Canary...?

3) How much experience do you have with Green Arrow and Black Canary?

4) I am looking forward to Young Justice, and from reports (here and on other sites)GA & BC seem to have somewhat prominent roles in the young teams mentoring process... Is it too early for you to confirm or deny these reports? If you can please do...

5) and finally, is there a possibility of a sequel to the Green Arrow featurette?
or you writing a featurette for another DC character for future Direct to video release?

Thank you for your time... and best of luck with the new series... me and my kids will be watching...

Greg responds...

I think I've answered all these before AND recently, but briefly...

1. People keep asking me. I didn't know there were two versions.

2. Black Canary is probably my all-time favorite comic book character. Green Arrow's definitely in my top ten.

3. I wrote half of a never-published Black Canary mini-series in the mid-eighties. Both characters appear in Young Justice. And then there's this short.

4. I'll confirm this, because we've already stated that both are in the show. Green Arrow is a mentor to Artemis. Black Canary trains the Team.

5. Not up to me. But I'd love to do either or both.

My question is aimed towards Princess Katharine's mother. Has Princess Elena actually passed away before we see Katharine as a child? Are we jumping to conclusions and assuming again? As so often happens in "Gargoyles."

Greg responds...

Elena is dead by the time of Long Way to Morning.

I've been a fan since 1994. Now I'm 24 and still a huge fan. My question is this:

At any time were/are you going to introduce Guinevere or Lancelot into King Arthur's past? Were you saving them for the future? Like the King Arthur spinoff? I know you have the whole "Bastard" character down, yet were you ever going to bring Mordred to light or did you decide that it'd be considered more complicated?

Greg responds...

I had/have plans for all of the above.

Is there a taboo against using Nazis in cartoon shows? I know "Gargoyles" featured Nazis in one episode, but most cartoons, even when they have flashbacks set during World War II seem to do everything possible to not address the enemy as Nazis.

Take the new "Avengers" show for instance, they got rid of the Nazis in Captain America's past and replaced them with Hydra. Hydra was now conquering Europe.

Did you have trouble getting Nazis and swastikas onto MIA? And why are so many cartoons scared to say the word Nazi?

Greg responds...

We had no particular problem that I can recall. I wasn't aware that other shows WERE having a problem with this. First I've heard of it.

Hey Greg,
I am really looking forward to Young Justice. My question is more of a personal one. Basically, how happy are you truly to be working on YJ? Yes, you're happy to have a gig again but are you really passionate about this show as you were for your past stuff? And do you feel YJ will have enough legs to get past 26 episodes? I know I can't wait to see it and I feel this has the makings of being something very special.

One final thing I want to touch on is that I want to applaud you on the script you did for Batman: The Brave and the Bold. I thought "Requiem for a Scarlet Speedster!" was FANTASTIC! I really enjoyed it.

Thanks so much for all you do.

Later.

Greg responds...

Thanks. Speedster was really the brainchild of the B&TB brain trust, James and Michael, but I was very proud to be handed the story and tried my best to do it justice. I was very pleased with how it came out. I'm glad you were too.

As for your Young Justice question... I'm resisting the temptation to find it insulting. I KNOW that wasn't your intent. (Though if you think about it, you might see why that's my knee-jerk reaction.) So, flat-out: I'm extremely enthusiastic and passionate about this series. I think we're doing great work, and I think/hope the audience will agree. There's no doubt in my mind that I could continue to do this series LONG after the corporate types decide they're through.

Dear Greg,

Recently watched "Long Way Til Morning"

And this is hopefully the first question that leads to what I hope to complete soon as a long essay on how fascinating Demona is as a character as well as her impact on her estranged clan "family".

In this we see three characters. All with relatively strong familial bonds. First we have the Father, Hudson. Then of course the rookery children Goliath and Demona.

My actual question is this:

What had to be going through Hudson's mind during all of this? I know he acknowledged the two as a mated pair, but in essence he had to save his son from his daughter. That could not have made him all too plussed.

Secondly, the dialogue in this last scene really shows how even now, they still have latent feelings of being family...

Hudson: "Give it up girl, you can't win.." Which even as a boy, first watching this I always received as a Father being parental in some way to his daughter.

Then there is Demona, who is as bananas as it gets. She, even in her tirade tips her hand. She, through raw, volatile emotion expresses she still has love for Hudson.

"I would have ended this quickly! Your pride will cost you your life!" Even though I know at this point in her life she is past redemption, I still feel that the way she exclaims these sentiments is a tell she doesn't want to HAVE to say them. She loves her rookery father. And in a way, still NEEDS him. As all grown children do once we reach adulthood. But nothing can stand in the way of her vengeance. The vengeance for her murdered family. Not even surviving FAMILY.

All too fascinating Greg, and thank you!

Justin

Hello Greg,

From watching The Gathering and other episodes with the Children of Oberon in it, and from your reveals on s8, it appears to me that the Third Race have a feudal-like system, with Oberon as the high king (more or less), and others as his subjects or vassals. I think you have said that there are various "subsets," such as the Aesir and the Egyptian gods.

Do these "subsets" or "pantheons" have any political or social reality in Third Race society? What I mean is, are they just convenient catagories for mortals to refer to this or that Child of Oberon as belonging to a mythological category, or are they actual groups who associate(d) with one another as such, who have something political, social, or cultural in common with one another?

Thank you.

Greg responds...

Yes, it's a FEUDAL system. Odin reports to Oberon, but the Aesir report to Odin. And etc.

First off, really excited to see Young Justice! I've had a gaping void in my soul since JLU ended and am glad to see that one of my favorite writers/directors/creators is getting to work his magic on the DCU.
Now my question. In regards to the Young Justice series If the Green Lantern movie proves to be popular/succesful do you think you would be more inclined to include more characters from that franchise(perhaps on the team?) or give those already involved in the show more prominent roles or do you already have the future of the show mapped out to the extent that this would be a non-issue?

Greg responds...

The movie won't have anything to do with it. Beyond that I'm not commenting.

Hello. I was wondering if there were any plans to have the complete series of Gargoyles released on DVD anytime in the near future. I think it would be great if there were because I love the show. Thank you for your time.

Greg responds...

I think it would be great too. But no plans that I know of. (You know it's not up to me, right?)

With "Requiem for a Scarlet Speedster" having now aired, I have a few questions about your involvement on it:

1. Was this an episode idea that James Tucker and/or Michael Jelenic came to you with, or did you come to them with it?
2. We know of your fandom of various heroes like Spider-Man, but what of Flash? Are you well-read on the speedster's history? And if so, what stands out as your favorite runs on the character? (Let alone WHICH Flash.)
3. In writing for another's series, how much effort do you put into tempering your own writing style so that it matches the whole show's tone?
4. Was there anything of note from your script that didn't make the final cut?

Thank you in advance for your answers. The episode was fantastic, BTW.

Greg responds...

1. I think it was James' idea. But, yeah, in any case, James and Michael brought the idea to me. I loved it, though.

2. I do love Flash. (I love a lot of super-heroes, frankly.) I'm a big fan of Jay, Barry and Wally. I'm fairly well-versed in older stuff. Less so on the more recent stuff. I like a lot of what my buddy Cary Bates did with Barry. Gardner Fox's work on Jay was cool too. And I've always like Wally as Kid Flash. But also enjoyed some of Mike Baron's stuff when post-crisis Wally graduated to be Flash.

3. I try very hard to match the tone of any series I'm working on.

4. There was a bit from the outline (never scripted) that I really liked, where Joan serves Jay and Batman coffee in the Garrick kitchen and then leaves them alone to talk. I would have liked to have seen that. But in general, I was really THRILLED with how the episode turned out. The Death-Race episode was fun. But this one really worked for me. It's my favorite of the three B&TBs I worked on.

YJ Production Questions:

1. While Character designs were being made, did you have anything in particular you wanted to happen?
2. If you had to make another YJ show however you were forbidden to use the characters you are know, who would be in?
3. Have the voice actors met one another?
4.When will the pics on the walls at Comic-Con be scanned and online? It isn't really a spoiler anymore seeing as how us fans have spotted everything. Such as Cheshire :)
5. Who will be the characters of the team appearing in ep 1? (Not a spoiler, but a promotional statement now)

Greg responds...

1. I... really don't know what you mean...?

2. I'm happy with the cast we chose.

3. Yes.

4. The walls at Comic-Con?

5. Well, I'll mention those already spoiled: Mr. Freeze, Robin, Batman, Icicle Jr., Speedy, Green Arrow, Killer Frost, Aquaman, Aqualad, Captain Cold, Flash, Kid Flash, Superman, Superboy, Dubbilex, Guardian.

Hello! Can't wait for the premiere of YJ! Just a quick question or too.

I know that you said YJ will be showing the team not only fighting crime, but at school and at home as well. How much of their home lives will we see? Just little bits here and there, or a lot?

Also, it makes sense that miss martain, superboy and robin's gaurdains will know about the super-heroing. will the others parents know? or will it be a secret?

How long are the episodes? I've heard the premiere is an hour long. Will each episode be an hour or is it just longer because it's the premiere?

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer so many questions!

Greg responds...

1. As much as we have room for.

2. They know.

3. The premiere is an hour... i.e. it's our two-part pilot episodes cut together into one "movie". All episodes (including those first two) are a half hour including commercials.

Dear Greg Weisman,

I enjoyed the DC Showcase: Green Arrow short. I wanted to ask a few questions about it.

1) When Oliver Queen is calling Dinah Lance in traffic, the viewer can briefly see his call list -Dinah [Black Canary], Bruce [Batman], Clark [Superman], Wally [Flash], and Mort. Was it your idea to shout out Mort Weisinger, co-creator of Green Arrow?

2) I noticed a lot of green visually (such as in the baggage claim belts) and in dialogue (when Merlyn banters with Green Arrow about having him try to steal the limelight again), well I didn't have a question but just to say I admire that cleverness.

3) Was it intentional to reference Green Arrow's liberal ideology by giving him a hybrid car in the short or was it more to payoff an awesome line of dialogue when Green Arrow appears to save the day?

Greg responds...

1. That must have come from the director or board artist. It wasn't in my script, so you'd have to ask one of them.

2. Thanks. That WAS intentional.

3. Both.
