Was the change in Red Tornado's voice between episodes 3 (where he sounded robotic) and 7 (where he just sounded British) intentional?

Thanks for your time!

Greg responds...

There was NO change. We gave Jeff Bennett reference from episode 3 before he recorded episode 7 and to the best of all our experienced ears, he was doing the same voice. (So no British accent, period.) And in the mix, Audio Circus used the EXACT same technical effect on Jeff's voice in both episodes.

So I'm at a loss to explain why you felt they sounded different.

Hey Greg,

Ok so in Gargoyles the Archmage fell into that chasm in 984 and was supposed to die, but didn't. How was it possible for him to save himself? I understand the "future Archmage" came and saved himself in 984, but the Archmage from 984 must have conjured his future incarnation to begin with while he was falling down that chasm, I'm I close? Thanks!!!

Greg responds...

No, you're not. Didn't you JUST ask this question recently? If not you, someone else did. Anyway, "ASKED AND ANSWERED." Check the archives.

I found a cel on Live Auction (it came up in a Google image search for Angela)that shows Thailog with a gun and carrying an unconscious Demona. It said it was from Sanctuary, but I didn't see that scene there or in other guides. Which episode is it from?

Greg responds...

It sounds like it's indeed from "Sanctuary". But without seeing it, I can't be sure. Even if I did see it, I STILL might not be sure.

I'm trying to find out which episode this part I remember comes from. In 1996 I saw part of an episode where Angela and Goliath were chained to the wall in a dungeon or metal room. The shackles were overhead and bolted into the wall, like the ones Doyle's men used on Lexington in Ransom. They were struggling when Elisa ran in and hit a button or switch that released them. "But we weren't able to leave," Goliath remarked. Do you know which episode this is? I've tried looking up guides, but I still haven't been able to find it.

Greg responds...

It's not immediately ringing a bell. It frankly sounds a bit like "Double Jeopardy", but Angela wasn't in that. If it came from Goliath Chronicles (as "Ransom" did), I'm not likely to remember something I wasn't involved in and only saw once back in 1996 or 1997.

My best advice is to ask fellow fans in the Station 8 Comment Room: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/comment/

I really enjoyed "Denial" as I had been unfamiliar with the character of Klarion the Witchboy until that episode aired. Will we get to see more/learn more about him later on?
Thank you!

Hi Greg!
If you saw it how did you feel about Captain Atom and Eiling's portrayals on JLU?

Greg responds...

I saw one episode with Captain Atom. His powers seemed slightly different from when I wrote the comic, but every series has to adapt. I haven't seen Eiling. At least, I don't think so.

Hello Greg,
Just a musing/ question based on a post of Matt's

<Matt writes...

3. Aside from Hudson, were any of True and "Kermit"'s rookery parents still alive as of 997?
Thanks, Greg!
Greg responds...

3. Potentially.>

My question is this...
Hudson hatched in 878. So as of 997 most of the surviving members of his rookery would be pushing the bio equivalent of 60.

So it stands to reason that the 898 and potentially the 918 rookery generations may also have had eggs lain in 968 resulting in the 978 gen.

Take the Wyvern Cell as our place holder here. We see Second and Sacrifice ( whom we can assume they had there 2nd egg in the 998 rookery as there is a garg on Avalon who looks almost identical to Second)

So again, it stands to reason they wouldn't start breeding on Sacrifice's 2nd heat.
Same I suppose goes for Chomp and Chaw, they most likely had a kid in the 978 and 998 rookeries too.

Just a thought

Greg responds...

I'm afraid I'm not following you.

I was excited to hear that McDonalds was doing a Young Justice promotion but was sad when none of the female characters were included. I would think including a lead character like Artemis or M'Gann would be better promotion for the show than Black Mantra. Are you involved in any of these decisions?

Greg responds...

Nope. I definitely was bummed that Artemis and Miss Martian weren't included. Though I was thrilled they chose to do our show at all.

I'm sure you get a lot of these, but it's another Artemis question: You recently revealed that she is half-Vietnamese, and you have also stated that she is based on a character from the DC comics; my question is, is she also half-Vietnamese in the comics or was her origin changed for the purposes of the show?

Greg responds...

Depends what you assume you know about Paula Brooks' parents in the comics?

Inspired by your recent mention of Tuppence McIntyre (when you were discussing the Tuppence of the "Young Justice" comic book) and her helping you with research on early Scottish history for "Gargoyles":

The two stories in the second half of "Clan-Building", the Stone of Destiny tale and Brooklyn's first TimeDancer adventure, featured a lot of early Scottish history (including a few tidbits that hadn't made it into "City of Stone" and "Avalon Part One", such as the reconciliation of Gillecomgain's peasant origins in the cartoon with his being a kinsman of Macbeth in actual history). Did you get Tuppence's help for researching them again, or did you turn to other researchers this time? (I remember your mentioning having Kathy Pogge's help with the Stone of Destiny story.)

Greg responds...

The research for the comic was nearly all done by Kathy Pogge.

You said a few questions back about Megan that "She was certainly hit on by Wally, but *I don't agree that she was belittled by the boys*"... I take issue with the idea that what Wally is doing doesn't belittle her since he's basically harassing her. So far I've really like the show's take on it (especially Artemis shouting at Wally in episode 7) but I'm now a bit worried. Please tell me this doesn't mean he's going to keep getting away with it? I was really hoping for some pay off on how he has been treating her which (as someone who has been in that situation and really hated it) is quite bad.

A lot of the ineraction Megan has had has been her as "the outsider" as the "girl" of the group until Artemis showed up and like I said, while I did like the shows treatment of it I can't agree some of it wasn't belittling.

On a more positive note you were right in said question about her development over the coming episodes. She's a fantastic character!

Greg responds...

It depends what you mean by "getting away with it". I mean there will clearly be a payoff eventually, but I can't say it will satisfy you given what you've written above.

I would AGREE that some of what Wally's doing is belittling of M'gann, BUT he doesn't know that. And it's certainly NOT his intent. I think Wally actually thinks he's making progress with M'gann. That what he's doing is working. This isn't the act of a guy who knows he's not in the game but continues to harass a girl who doesn't want the attention. This is a case of a guy who VERY much thinks he's IN the game... and that in fact, any second, she's going to fall for his charms.

As for M'gann, I don't think she's as bothered by Wally's attention as you may think she is. I don't think she feels belittled by it. That's not the same as saying some of what he says and does isn't belittling, but as a literal alien to the culture, trained on Earth customs by DATED television, she's more perplexed by it than in any way upset. Some of his lame lines go right over her head. Some don't, but she finds him amusing and even sweet, considering that she isn't interested in the slightest.

I think the main problem that these two have is that M'gann thinks its so obvious that Wally's not in the running that she hasn't bothered to tell him. She assumes he knows. But he's too dense to see the obvious. I'm not blaming her or him. It's just a disconnect. And disconnects are where drama, conflict and, yes, even comedy comes from.

I just started Young Justice and am greatly enjoying it. I really liked the Teen Titans cartoon but was disappointed by the Trigon arc (self-fullfilling prophecy much). Have you considered doing an animated Teen Titans movie using more of a Young Justice format?

Greg responds...

Uh... I'm not doing Teen Titans period. That's someone else's show. I'd love to do a Young Justice movie, but no one has asked. And, in case it's not obvious, it's not up to me.

We're back, baby!

That's right. The official GargWiki has been down for quite some time with server issues. But Gorebash, our host here at Station 8 has provided a new home for us. So check out: http://gargwiki.net/Main_Page

Most of what you might want to ask me (and thus needlessly crowd the queue here at ASK GREG) about Gargoyles is already easily available in this very smart-looking and user-friendly wiki.

I myself participate in keeping it honest and utilize it as a resource all the time.

Again, that's:

My sisters and I have recently had a huge Gargoyles marathon and some things I noticed made me wonder about how they sleep. So the Gargoyles turn to stone and at sunset their skin cracks and breaks off. Now I noticed that when they strike poses you can see into their mouths and even that is stone. So at sunset, when they awaken, are they chewing and spitting out Gargoyle flakes or do they slowly thaw from the inside out and crack like a hard boiled egg?

Greg responds...

From the inside out, leaving only a thin layer.

Hello, Mr. Weisman. I just wanted to ask if you'd ever seen anything about this:

I ask because I remember reading a previous exchange here about a theoretical Justice League Babies cartoon, which reminded me of this dropped series. I'd love to see either of those, they sound like a lot of fun, if you don't take it all too seriously (and I don't).

Greg responds...

just read your response to my post about the league of assassins being called the league of shadows. you're right i should have waited to see the episode before jumping to conclusions. loved the intro of red arrow/Artemis and the inclusion of sensei.

besides im too big a fan of your work to let a minor gripe like that blow the show for me. just had to vent thou.

initially, i might have been over glorifying what i believe tv-pg v ratings get away with violence and edge wise. (and i agree with you completely, i believe that we all want to see smart storytelling with well developed characters. and being that i am not an expert i only assumed that kids want to see all that grimy stuff.)

but as far of my lack of knowledge as to how the censorship of cartoons works, Whats good with some inside info?

1. how does censorship effect you in this series.
2. when developing a series thats tv-pg v, what content do you automatically take off the table? where do you believe the line of tv-pg v stops in terms of what you can get away with?
3. what are some of the more risky themes you've brainstormed? i know how you feel about spoilers so ill take what i can get on that last one.

and as always keep up the good work.

Greg responds...

1. Almost not at all. It may be because to a certain extent that, after nearly two decades in this business, I've internalized Standards & Practices, but I don't think so. I think I have my own standards about what you will and won't see in a show I'm producing. Every once in a while we get a note from S&P, usually just a warning along the lines of "When you do that don't milk it to death," which is generally a note that I agree with and didn't need to get in the first place. Sometimes - very rarely - a double entendre gets rejected. Disney had this thing on SpecSpidey about the sound of broken glass, but didn't mind when we replaced it with the sound of broken porcelain. (It's a subtle distinction.) KidsWB didn't like the sound of gunfire. And everyone wants to beware of imitable behavior - including me (within reason). I don't want to assume our audience is unintelligent, but I'm conscious that I don't want to model dangerous behavior for impressionable little kids.

2. I don't pay any attention to these ratings. None. I do what I do.

3. Themes? I dunno. Watch the shows, and you tell me.
