I like your use of foreign languages in the show and I am curious what the characters are saying since no subtitles are given.

1. What was Megan saying in Martian in Bereft?
2. What were the Bialyan soldiers saying in Arabic in Bereft? (You mentioned it was Arabic in the questions before)
3. What was Aqualad saying in the Atlantean language when he was dehydrated in Bereft?
4. What were the Rhelasian diplomats saying in Targets and what language was it?

Greg responds...

QUESTION 1.

Line #1. MISS MARTIAN (VO)
Katchhhhaa, s’nomoth… K’azzar M’gann? N’da M’arzz…
[Ohh, my head… Where am I? This can’t be Mars…]

Line #2. MISS MARTIAN (VO CONT)
Ah’lunzz… s’sess b’rakahzz… <deep breath> Hw’asheta!
[One moon… white sand… Oxygen!]
(then out loud in English)
Hello, Megan! I’m on Earth!

QUESTION 2.

PATROL LEADER #1 shouts in ARABIC:
25. PATROL LEADER #1
Mat khalee-homshee yih-raboo!
[Don’t let them escape!]

79. PATROL LEADER #2
Sahibit il galala tureadahoo hayan!
[Her Majesty wants him alive!]

82. PATROL LEADER #2
Kifaya! Idrab nar!
[Enough!! Open fire!]

QUESTION 3.

141. AQUALAD
Tula, LIHS-soh-meh… ah-gah-PAH-oh seh…
[Tula, please… I love you…]

174. AQUALAD
<moan> Tula… dih-NA-meh-tha EH-tih ehn Atlantis sim-bih-OH-se…
[Tula… we can still be together in Atlantis…]

QUESTION 4. The language that Tseng and Li were speaking was Rhelasian, which is VERY similar to Korean. The language that Police Captain Xiaping was speaking was Chinese (but I forget which kind):

18. XIAPING
Pa shya! Me gar en pa shya! [Down! Everybody down!] /

21. XIAPING (OS)
Bu yao doung! Don’t move!

36. TSENG, SINGH MANH LI (OVERLAPPING)
<efforts> Jun jah shik, nae gah son, po joo get suh!
[Let me at him!]

162. XIAPING
Zhua tzuh sa so!
[Stop the assassins!]
NOTE: This last was an animation error that we just didn't have time to correct. It was supposed to be Xiaping, so the words were in Chinese. But it was animated as Tseng.

I appreciate Young Justice for all of it's detail and consider it a classic in the making. I just have a few questions.

1. How old is Cheshire?

2. How old is Paula Crock?

3. How old is Sportsmaster?

4. How far along pregnant (in months) was Mera in Episode 8?

5. (Joke) Does Megan watch classic TV because reception from Earth to Mars takes a long time?

6. Is Billy Batson 10 years old in this version? How long has Captain Marvel been part of the Justice League? Does the League know his real age?

7. Kaldur quit the Conservatory of Sorcery to become Aqualad but does that mean he's not getting any type of schooling? Or are they done with required Schooling at age 14 when the join the military?

8. Does Black Canary wear a wig in this version or dye her hair blond?

9. Artemis is a Sophomore like Wally, correct?

10. Robin is in 8th or 9th grade?

11. Red Arrow graduated from High School or is he a Senior? If he graduated is he going to Collage at all? Taking a year off? Have a job? Getting financial help from Green Arrow?

12. Miss Martian and Superboy are both Juniors correct?

13. Is 'Wolf' an original character or is he based on an established DC character? (I'll understand if this is Spoilers)

Thank you very much for your time. Keep up the great work! I'm glad yours and Brandon's show is finally back on air!

5. She's been watching for decades.

6a. Yes.

6b. Two years.

6c. NO COMMENT.

7. The latter.

8. NO COMMENT. Not because it's a spoiler, but because I think it would be very ungentlemanly for me to respond.

9. Yes.

10. 9th.

11. Graduated a month before our series premiered. He's taking a year off to focus on his super-heroic career. He doesn't need financial help from G.A. In fact, he has more money than G.A.

12. Correct.

13. Both.

14. THANKS!!

Before I go about my questions, I have to say that I am really enjoying Young Justice! It’s been such fun watching it; the animation is gorgeous and the ongoing characterization is interesting. Additionally, I like how minor characters in the DCU are being utilized. It’s nice just seeing them there. I apologize in advance if any of my questions are asking for spoilers. I have no doubt that some are at the very least are treading close, but I thought I might as well ask anyway.
1) I often see people asking questions about Tim Drake appearing in the series. Now, I have nothing against the character (though my preference lies with Dick Grayson), but it does make me wonder, especially because Batman: The Animated Series went straight to Tim. I don’t ask if you’ll have Robin eventually switch, but rather…What’s your opinion on leaving Jason Todd out? It just feels strange for him to be gone because he plays a large part in Bruce’s development. Though he admittedly isn’t the main focus of this series.
2) In A Dark Victory, Dick’s parents were killed in summer, around Father’s Day. What month (or date) were the Flying Graysons murdered in this series?
3) Are you treating Hawkwoman and Hawkgirl as the same character? I know their histories are a bit convoluted as far as differentiating them goes.
4) Decades ago, DC acquired characters from Quality Comics. A few characters like Black Condor still exist within continuity, but several fell into public domain and never returned. (Including my beloved Clock!) I know that because the characters are in PD that they can, theoretically, be used, but are there any contractual obligations to use recognizable DC characters? No one really knows who the Clock or Hugh Hazzard or Wonder Boy are, and there aren’t any comics to support through them. And, if you can use them or any other dropped characters, would you ever? Not as full-fledged characters, of course, but as background cast members or brief allusions? And, if they do exist in the YJ universe, would they act as Justice League members or as lone vigilantes?
5) Which Hawk and Dove pair is your favorite? Also, do they all have the potential to appear in the series, or most probably just the original Hank and Don?
6) Questions about Ace and Krypto are considered spoiler questions, but my question is this: what is your preferred incarnation of Ace (as in, the original German Shepherd, the more modern black dog, etc.)? I honestly miss German Shepherd Ace, probably because I love the breed. Also, does Streaky exist in this universe?
7) Will the pasts of any member of YJ become the subject of later episodes? Or, for the most part, will they be relegated to allusions? (Like Wally referencing the science experiment and the YJ comic being more graphic.)

Greg responds...

1. I don't really want to comment on what other series have chosen to do. Don't want to second guess my peers.

2. April.

3. There is no Hawkgirl on Earth-16. Just Hawkwoman.

4. I'm willing to use (at least in theory) any character that DC says is available to us. HOW we use those characters depends on the character him or herself and on the needs or our story.

5. NO COMMENT.

6. NO COMMENT.

7. The past always comes back to haunt.

So glad Young Justice is back! Anyway, I just had a few questions this time around:

1. Is there any particular reason you decided to cover much of the backstory for characters like Kid Flash, Miss Martian, and Robin in Issue #5 of the tie-in comic instead of the show itself? It's an interesting decision, to say the least.

2. How closely did you work with the writer of the first six issues of the book?
3. How many retakes do you generally have to do? MOI's animation for the show has been incredible so far, so I wondered if there were hiccups like you had in, say, Gargoyles.

4. Did BS&P really not catch that quick panty shot of Chesire? I was rather amazed you guys got away with it.

5. Mark Rolston is an intriguing choice for Lex, having only done a little previous VO work, and none with you guys. How did you, Brandon and Jamie come to cast him in the role?

Anyway, can't wait to see where the show goes next!

Greg responds...

1. We only have so much airtime. There is a lot of backstory and STORY that we'd love to cover that we just don't have the room for on air. Even WITH the comic, there's still a ton we don't have room for. But the comic does provide us with a second bite at the apple, so to speak. Everything you NEED to enjoy the series is in the series. Everything you NEED to enjoy the comic is in the comic. But I believe you get more out of both by enjoying both.

2. Very closely on the basic story concepts, which were all ideas that Brandon, Kevin and I came up with. Then we tried to give Art and Franco as much freedom as possible on the scripting... though I did kibbitz a bit here and there. Particularly on issues #5 and #6 to get the backstories feeling the way we wanted them to.

3. There are always retakes but MOI and LOTTO have both been great partners.

4. I didn't catch it. Only the fans caught it.

5. Actually, I worked with Mark on Max Steel and remembered him being great in that - and in many live-action things I've seen him in. In addition, Mark is the father of one of my daughter's friends. We've socialized occasionally, so he was in my head. I think his Lex is fantastic. Mark/Lex just owned every scene of episode 110 he was in, I thought. "Adorable."

Having watched the first 10 episodes and read the first 9 comics (I'm including #0 and FCBD), I can really see how the show is rewarding repeat viewings. I can go back and look how someone said something and see it another away. Also, with the show playing out in real time and cast of dozens of heroes reminds me a lot of one of my favorite series, Astro City. I don't know if you've read the comic, but I assure it's a compliment of the highest order.

When I rewatched "Welcome to Happy Harbor", I noticed Lucas Carr and "Schooled", I finally noticed the LexCorp truck. I love things like that.

Can you give the story on how you were cast as Lucas Carr? Obviously, you're the producer, but who suggested the role for you and why were you attracted to playing Lucas Carr? By the way, I like Lucas "Snapper" Carr.

Greg responds...

I read the first couple issues of Astro City and enjoyed them.

Actually, I wanted to play Red Tornado (and thus Red Torpedo and T.O. Morrow too). You can chalk that up to (a) greed, as they appear in way more episodes, so I'd get paid more and (b) arrogance, in that I figured I could handle the rolls, since Tornado's a robot and all. But that ogre Brandon didn't think I pulled it off in my audition. That's right, I faced rejection on a show I was one of the producers on! <sigh>

Anyway, it's hard to argue with the notion that Jeff Bennett would and did do a much better job in all three parts than I ever could. And Brandon suggested I play Carr, so it all worked out!

This is about pretty much all the series you've worked on. I've noticed that most of your series has a large cast of recurring characters (and that despite this characters tend to be very well delineated.) Now for Young Justice, WITCH, and Spectacular Spiderman that may be just because they were pre-existing properties and already have large casts. However, Gargoyles also had a large cast.

Was this a because of conscious choice?

Do you perfer working with a large cast of characters?

Greg responds...

I do. I like creating worlds that feel real and populated.
