Hi Greg,
I am just writing to say the gargoyles was and still is one of my favourite childhood shows. The twists with fox being part magic and owen was puck the whole time?!! I was utterly surprised!! Now i get how Xanatos knows some things that are unnatural.
Another thing, in the episode upgrade, i noticed that fox and Xanatos were playing a game of chess with the pack and the gargoyles as pieces whilst the pack and the gargoyles were fighting each other at the same time. That cannot be a coincidence. i believe they were playing their lives as if it was a game to them and chess seems to be a perfect way to illustrate the point.
Genius
Thanks. (And I don't think we were being subtle about it. We never wanted the audience to think it was a coincidence.)
1- Why didn't Sphere attack Aqualad when he infiltrated Mount Justice?
2 - How old is Ripley, the female guard with glasses from "Terrors"?
3 - How old is Banks, the guard from "Terrors"?
4 - How old is Riker, the guard from "Terrors"?
5 - How old is Cooper, the guard from "Terrors"?
1. She didn't recognize him as hostile.
2. No clue.
3. No clue.
4. No clue.
5. Your guess is as good as mine.
Queen Bee claimed that after the team steals the cycle, that more tech would appear that would put it, and possibly Superboy, to shame.
Has this tech been shown yet?
Some of it.
YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION: Episode #215: "War": Credits:
Posting the credits for the latest episode here at ASK GREG to compensate for how minute they are and how quickly they zip by on the air. I know I'm probably forgetting some folks, and I REALLY apologize! If you send me a reminder, I'll pimp you in another post!
In issue #22 of the YJ comic, Nightwing and Batgirl use a pretty awesome device to communicate through hologram. Is this tech used solely by the Batfamily? Or do several members of the team and league have it?
Nightwing is still using a version of the mobile holocomputer he's been using since he was Robin. The current Robin and Batgirl both use something similar. This is Batcave tech that I'm sure Batman would share with other Leaguers if they asked. So far no one has.
Does it bother you if anyone decides to nickname Wade Eiling "America's Osama Bin Laden"?
I guess I would. But it makes no sense whatsoever. So...
In five years there was no heroin good enough to get into the Justice League?
I know that there are five women in the league, but also twenty-five men, which makes a number unfavorable for women...
Unlike the team that has a nice number on the issue of men and women, for example, at the end of the first season, the team had eight active members four men and four women, and at the beginning of the season the team had ten active members, four women and six men, a number that remains favorable for women.
It seems with the entry of Zatanna and Rocket have entered the league, there was no heroin in five years time to get into the league!
I would like the heroines in Young Justice had another look at them now, grateful!
We are, at least to some extent, limited by the source material that we are adapting. We try to create as much balance as possible - especially with the Team, as opposed to the League.
In the YJ comic Players, Chapter Four: Do Not Pass Go, Barbara Gordon said "Please. I always beat him." Was that really meant to be an indirect Kim Possible reference?
Not that I intended.
Hello Mr. Greg Weisman,
I have a quick question about Earth-16's Beast Boy. From what I've read, I've understood that Beast Boy needs to see and be in some form of contact with an animal before he can transform into it at any time he wants. Unfortunately, I've also understood that he cannot seem to use this ability to transform into any dinosaurs, and I'm assuming that he can't use it to transform other extinct prehistoric creatures as well. Is there an in-universe explanation as to why such limitations were placed upon the abilities of Earth-16's Beast Boy? Could the limitations in animal transformations have anything to do with animal DNA (perhaps a complete DNA sequence is required for Beast Boy's transformation?) or is it something else entirely?
Thanks for taking the time to reading this posting,
CGYJ
He needs to grok the animal, which he can't do from a distance - especially from a distance of millenia.
Thought I'd share my thoughts on issue #23!
Team Year Zero:
Artemis and Barbara seem like they're getting along swimmingly. Hopefully, there's a great friendship about to form from that! Also, Alfred with the pizzas got a good chuckle from me. And it was really nice seeing Bruce wanting to stick around for Dick's birthday; just about warmed my heart.
The scene in Dhabar was also great. That one panel where M'gann explains to Clark how she caught onto him was subtly tragic: we learn that Conner doesn't keep mirrors or looks at his own face often, M'gann has memorized and learned every single one of his details and she hates lying to him even though she is.
1. Was thatDeadshot targetting Rumaan?
Team Year Five:
What a creepy place Batman and Robin are in. I've seen people speculate about it being Harvey Dent's home. I wouldn't really know, but I'm sure (or at least, I'm hoping) we'll know either by the end of this arc or find out about it in the show.
These last five years seem like they have been very unkind to Match. And I'm guessing these next few minutes/hours won't be kind to Barbara either.
I love the fighting dynamics between our abducted heroes. They have great synergy together, which of course means we're going to be gettinbg more awesomeness from them in the next issue. I see in the queue that someone has already asked why Icon was removed from the cover for this and a previous issue of YJ:I. To be honest, he was the one I was looking forward to the most, but I digress. I just hope nothing from the story was lost with his removal.
The bioship with La'gaan and M'gann was exactly what I had been waiting for! Even though I was pretty devastated with Superboy and Miss Martian's break up at first, I still felt that pairing her up with someone like La'gaan was an interesting idea and I was really curious about what would happene next with them.
However, aside from the cute crab cakes moment and M'gann trying to save him (I believe both are scenes from "Depths"), there wasn't much else about them so far that called for my attention. Add to that how my impression of La'gaan at first went a little bit south during the second half of "Happy New Year" and the fact that M'gann is still very hung up on Conner, I wasn't very sure how to feel about it anymore.
But this scene was just what I had been needing. It was sweet, it was touching and it explained the connection between them. I also feel really bad for La'gaan. I suspected he'd be a social outcast. It sucks and it's unfair, do I know. And as I suspected, M'gann understands perfectly. This is one of the reason why I had been so excited over the prospect of them being together. Hope we see more of this in the show.
Beast Boy's concern for Noor... Considering Bibbo and Noor were amongst the people Robin, Lagoon Boy and Blue Beetle rescued in the Invasion premiere that takes place a month later, I suspect he was right to worry.
And last but not least, the Collector of Worlds has given Martian Manhunter, The Flash and The Atom a real beating and now they're falling off to their doom. So not crash.
All in all, a superb and thrilling chapter! Can't wait for more!
1. Yes.
2. Icon was originally one of the abducted along with the two Captains, the two Supers and Wonder Woman. I was forced to rewrite him out of issues 21-25, and I do think it loses something in terms of chemistry and interaction. Same with Rocket, who was with Zatanna throughout. But NOTHING was lost from a plot standpoint. The story didn't change.
Oh, and again, just to be VERY clear: this stuff only effects the comic, not the television series. All the episodes are already animated and approved. CN's decision on when and where to air the series has nothing to do with DC's decision about the comic.
Why did you decide that Aquaman should only have telepathy with marine mammals instead of all sea life like he does in the comics?
It's what makes sense to me.
Dear Mr. Wiseman,
I know that these kind of shows are a big team effort, so just thanking the head-writer or the credited writer is not enough. So if you ever talk to your colleagues about how the audiences react to Young Justice, please tell them, that there is at least one viewer, where you exactly hit the right spot, and pushed his emotional buttons. As I said, there is at least one, but probably thousands, or millions, but I can only speak for myself. Especially the episode "Coldhearted" got me up and down a few times, so thanks to everyone involved for that.
Looking forward for more of that ...
And a thank you to you for interacting with us - even if it is just for you ego :)
I also got some questions.
Actually, think of them as cues, please. Feel free to write as much as you want about the topics I raise in those questions, please.
1) What exactly do we see during the endcredits, and what else can you tell us about them?
2) I see that you, and many other writers and producers, usually do not know much about the success of your show as seen from the business side of things, for example the ratings, or if your show has been sold internationally.
Do you not care about it, or is it acutally difficult for you to get this kind of information?
Or do you even try to avoid it, to not risk any (bad) influence?
3) From another reader's question I know that you were responsible for some English dubs. Does that experience affect your writing? Do you sometimes wonder how something you just wrote could be difficult to handle for those who translate your work into other languages (or cultures)?
I would have asked that question anyway, as I try to ask every author I can reach about it. But now that I know, that you know both sides of the problem, I am more inclined than ever, to hear your thoughts about it.
Thanks in advance :-D
1. Not sure what you mean: they're end credits; what you see is what you get.
2. I care very much, but the bosses aren't always forthcoming.
3. Words always matter to me. But though languages fascinate me, I'm decidedly monolingual. (Though not proud of that fact.) So the short answer is no. I focus on making it work in English and otherwise cross my fingers and hope for the best.
According to a recent question, Zatara started fighting crime twelve years before Team Year 0, the same year as Superman. Was that a reference to the the fact that the first appearance, for both of them, was in Action Comics 1?
In essence.
The premise of my questions may be flawed: if it is, I'm sorry.
In Agendas, Green Arrow says "If we're considering Blue Devil (for League membership)", as to imply that he doesn't think that the guy would be good for the job.
1)Is this true?
2)If it is true, what's the reason for GA's attitude towards Blue Devil?
1. Not necessarily.
2. All he's saying is - at that time - Blue Devil had very little experience. Considerably less than Red Arrow.
Has Beast Boy seen Miss Martian's true form?
Yes.
1. What happened to Garfield's dad?
2. You mentioned in an earlier reply that Gar took his mother's maiden name. Would his dad's name still be Mark Logan?
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. That would be some coincidence, huh?
What city does Wonder Girl live in?
Washington D.C.
I have one other question and it's a fun one.
Do you see any of the team or Justice League as being "serious" readers? If so, which writers do they like?
By "serious" I mean someone who will crack the classics like Melville, Milton, or Homer, or someone who likes serious fiction like... Toni Morrison or Gabriel Marquez.
P.S.
If people can ask about Catherine Cobert's age then I can certainly ask about this!
Yes, you can. But the difference is that the age questions are objective. I've either done the math or I haven't. What you're asking for is incredibly subjective. I take the question seriously enough that I don't want to just toss out an answer without putting real thought into it. And so it would potentially take hours to answer it for the dozens of characters we have on the series. And I'm just not prepared to do that right now.
But the short answer is yes.
Hi Greg,
I'd like to offer an observation. Every one of the original team has played some role in the traumatic events of Darkest and Before the Dawn - even Wally and Connor who permitted these events to occur by staying silent. I don't see what Wally could have done, but Connor could have spoken up about M'Gann's activities, but he didn't.
I have not seen many viewers respond to Beast Boy, Impulse, and Blue Beetle being drugged, assaulted, kidnapped, and tortured. If I was Gar, Bart, or Jaime, I'd be hurt, humiliated, and beyond furious with Nightwing and the senior class. It's one thing to expect Justice Leaguers to roll with the punches, but Beast Boy is barely a teenager.
I understand that because of the genre you feel the need to keep things moving. Unfortunately, that means certain things get glossed over. (For example, I would have loved to have watched Wally and Artemis's first date.) Personally, I'm willing to give Artemis and Kaldur a pass because they have suffered so much. But, I hope that when the smoke clears, the team will hold Nightwing accountable for his actions
You're assuming that when the smoke clears, that anyone's still alive to hold Nightwing accountable. Or that Nightwing's still alive to be held.
How old was Jason Todd in the hologram/picture that was shown in Depths?
Why did you decided to include Jason in Young Justice instead of skipping over him like in Batman the animated series?
1. Not sure about the exact date on the hologram.
2. We're not basing our decisions on OTHER adaptations.
1) Reading the Stargate bible, have ever considered a Star Trek animated series? I know Paramount is very strict on that property.
2) Will you ever do another series of your own creation?
Thank you very much. Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
1. I'd love to do one, but no one's asked me. (Keep in mind, I was asked to develop Stargate. I don't just go out and independently develop series based on properties that somebody else owns.)
2. Again, I'd love to, but no one's bought anything original that I've pitched in a VERY long time.
1. How old is Brucely?
2. I think he was confirmed to be Artemis' dog - did she pick him out or was he a gift from Wally?
3. Has Brucely met other members of the Team?
1. I think you'd need to ask Stephanie.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. I'm sure he has.
Looking more and more forward to the tail end of this season based on the new trailer. Love Cap'n Marvel! LOVE STATIC! (If that's who he is of course) wink wink
1) About the storytelling of the series. I don't know if this was mentioned before, but I enjoy eps that are based on source material. Be it homage or adaptation similar to the Secrets and Disordered eps, I've looked at season two. My first discovery was the subtitle of the season possibly being influenced by a dc comics crossover event (that I believe you were involved with) called Invasion. There's also an ep about the Flash family introducing Impulse, a homage to another dc crossover event called Bloodlines, which did introduce new heroes and dealt with an alien invasion. So, were these intentional? Are there any other homages other than I guess Rimbor?
2) I noticed that Vandal Savage seems to be dressed in a uniform that looks similar to a Civil War Confederate uniform, is this your or Brandon's or Phil's idea?
3) In the episode Revelation, it seemed Joker knew at the very least something of the Light's plans leading to the events of Season two. Were these villains brainwashed through the Starro chips as well? Also, why were the heroes unable to find out anything from the captured villains?
1. Some are intentional. Some are just sitting in the background radiation of our brains. Some may be coincidences. But the whole thing is an adaptation, so it's hard to separate what's what - and when you ask if there are others, the answer is, of course, yes.
2. The clothing choices were mostly Phil, I'd think. He may have discussed it with Brandon.
3. I think the premise of your question assumes facts not in evidence.
3a. No. Starro-Tech hadn't even been created yet, and in any case, why would they need it?
3b. Why WOULD they be able to find out much of anything?
I have questions about Performance. I really, really liked this episode-- it seems like every Robin adaption has to do a circus episode, but I liked that YJ's version wasn't a rehash of his origin. It's detailed in the comics and hinted at here, and I think that worked out really well.
1. From the context (i.e., "You guys are not on a mission" vs. "Batman's sending us..."), I'm guessing Robin lied to Artemis, Conner, M'gann, and Roy about having League sanction to pursue who was framing Mr. Haly. Is that true?
2. If it is true, did the others ever find out? Were there any repercussions for Dick?
Also, on a tangent: I really love the friendship between Wally and Dick. It's by far my favorite aspect of YJ, and I really enjoyed their dialogue in Darkest. I hope to see more of it!
1. That's pretty much STATED in the episode, yes.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Hi Greg, I have a question that's been plaguing me and I would love if you could shed some light:
You've previously said that Beast Boy needs to touch or see an animal in order to become it [ergo why he can't become a dinosaur, etc]. So my question is, how does he turn into that monkey-human hybrid? From what I can tell it's not a real animal, and seeing that he can turn into a human, and therefore it's not this form he has no control over, how does he transform into that hybrid?
Thanks!
He evolved it himself.
I only have two questions, hopefully they're not spoiler requests and I'm apologize in advance if they are.
1) Was Black Manta holding back against Kaldur in Downtime?
2) If not, what was his reasoning behind allowing Kaldur to know that he (Manta) knew it was him?
Thanks for answering our questions, I loved Black Manta's Celebrity Hot Tub and I hope you can write more of them in the future. :)
1. Depends what you mean. He wasn't trying to kill him.
2. As opposed to what?
Hey, Greg. Thanks for answering all our insane questions.
Thinking specifically about Young Justice, were there any characters that you meant to be... not very likeable? I mean, obviously the villains are the ones we love to hate, but of the Team or JLA? Like, hypothetically, did you (or anyone else) ever say, 'Ya know what? Lets make [insert character's name here] a complete jerk.'
I'm not looking for validation for people to hate on any one character. I'm just womdering if it was ever part of the thought process in the show.
Thanks a lot!
Not unlikeable, no, but there were characters that we wanted NOT to mesh with the others quite so well. We wanted things like anger-management issues, jealousy issues, insecurity issues, etc. There are, I believe, non-positive qualities to nearly every major character on the show. Hopefully, the audience finds the characters real, and perhaps likes them more for their faults...
1) Did Artemis' poor relationship with her father make her leery of men at all? If so, did this cause her to have a difficult time trusting Wally early in their relationship and/or cause any strain in their relationship early on?
2) You stated that they had ups and downs during their relationship over the 5 year gap. Could you specify a bit? Were there large confrontations or temporary breakups? Or were they just typically small arguments, petty jealousy and/or similar situations?
3) Do Wally's parents know of Artemis' background and are they at all bothered by the fact that she comes from a criminal family?
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these!
1. Probably.
1a. Probably.
2. I could, but I'm not going to. It's a SPOILER REQUEST.
3. Yes.
3a. Not particularly.
Greg, you've mentioned several times here and elsewhere that Wally was a very insecure person during the first season, but I never got that feeling from watching the show. I don't deny that he seemed to be overcompensating for something at times, but I never understood why he felt the need to. In comparison, I thought the show did a great job with Artemis as we saw her tough girl facade crack a few times, and got a good feeling for why she put up that facade.
So my question is; did the show actually explore Wally's insecurities as a person during the first season? And if not, what exactly was he insecure about and why did he feel that way?
He's my favorite character on the show, and I just feel like I missed something somewhere along the way. Thanks!
1. I think we explored it, but whether we succeeded is not for me alone to judge.
2. I think, during Season One, he's insecure about his speed relative to the Flash. He's insecure about the fact that Flash didn't initially want him as a sidekick/protege. He's insecure with girls/women. Etc.
1. How old is Jim Daniels?
2. How old is Ultra-Humanite?
3. How old is Ripley?
4. How old is Norman?
5. How old is Jason Bard?
1. By the end of Season One, Jim is 34.
2. By the end of Season One, his brain is 92.
3. Who?
4. I haven't done the math on him yet.
5. I'm not confirming or denying whether Jason Bard is still alive.
Young Justice: Invasion is the only comic series I've bought regularly (came close with the Jaime/Blue Beetle one couple of years ago). Like the TV series it's got a great mix of characters and tells a bunch of engaging stories at an all ages level. I love being able to read a series and share it with my younger brother (So many of the 'normal' series are intensely violent and feature sexual assault so often...).
So, thank you and your staff for making this series so great! It's always sold out at our local store. I'm sorry to hear that it's ending in two months.
What are your thoughts on how to keep comics relevant and get them to people, particularly younger crowds? Are downloads making a difference? Would releasing more series as longer graphic novels twice a year rather than shorter monthlies help? What about the content? Thanks for your time!
I don't claim to be an expert on these topics. Generally, I just write the kind of stories that _I_ would like to read.
1. How old is Alan Scott?
2. How old is Sandman?
3. How old is Bibbo?
4. How old is Banks?
5. How old is Shirley Mason?
1. I'm not going to confirm that Alan Scott is alive or dead.
2. Ditto. But also ASKED AND ANSWERED.
3. By the end of Season One, Bibbo was 50.
4. Who?
5. She's less old than dead.
I just wanted to thank you for something else. Your lengthy rambles are what got me to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and from there most of Whedon's other work. Thank you so much for that- I have experienced many hours of enjoyment thus. I was surprised that you haven't commented on any of his post-Firefly work, as far as I can tell from searching the archives. If you don't mind, assuming you've seen the following, what did you think of:
1. Dollhouse?
2. The Avengers?
3. Cabin in the Woods?
Thanks again! Oh, and I've completely missed the boat on Young Justice, but I may be getting season 1 for Christmas. I'll let you know what I think!
Please do.
1. I watched all of Dollhouse and will admit to mixed feelings. But it was long enough ago that I don't think I remember it clearly enough to speak to what exactly wasn't working for me. (And there was a lot I liked about it too.)
2. Great. There are little things I could quibble with, but in general, great.
3. Haven't seen it.
Why Quit Kid Flash the Hero life
RESPONSE SPOILER. COMMENT NO.
In the YJ universe, is Blue Devil a man in a costume or an actual demon?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Issue 23 was awesome! I really liked the new depth that was giving to La'gann's and M'gann's relationship
Thanks.
Why doesn't Superboy have any mirrors?
He doesn't want any.
1. How old is Calvin Durham?
2. How old is Sha'lain'a?
3. How old is Psycho-Pirate?
4. How old is Riker ?
5. How old is Wade Eiling?
1. Don't know yet.
2. Don't know yet.
3. Don't know.
4. William Riker from Star Trek?
5. At the end of Season One, he was 74.
Just dropping by to say that the latest comic issue was aweseome. It was nice to see Tim again. And the character development with La'gaan and M'gann in the bioship had me squealing like a mad pig- and I got a big laugh out of it afterwards when my friends reacted to the scene by basically saying "Wait, he's actually capable of not being a jerk?". I hope to see more of such development in the show itself. And Barbara... you've just reminded me why I love the character so much. Great job.
Thanks. I'm really quite proud of the Players arc in the comic. And Chris and Zac's work has just been stellar.
Wasn't it a bit hypocritical of M'gann to talk about not "focusing on parties" when she was going to a bridal shower, of all things?
It's called irony.
1. Before Impulse left, it was raining ash, but after he left, it wasn't raining ash, and Happy Harbor looked slightly larger. Was this intentional?
2. I know Crash and Mode are Reach terms, but what do they mean? Like, is Crash synonymous to Cool, and Mode/moded similar to Defeated?
1. Happy Harbor looks larger? I didn't notice that at all. As for the rest of your question, it's a SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. ASKED AND ANSWERED - in both the show and here at ASK GREG.
Hey Greg!
I started watching Young Justice this summer and can't get enough of it! I've never had cable tv, so I don't watch many shows, but this is the first show that I've been able to say I keep up with regularly. I particularly love the spinoff series, Black Manta's Celebrity Hot tub, and think that CN really should give it another chance. I hope that maybe someday fans will be able to rejoice upon seeing the likes of Lex Luthor, The Joker, or Queen Bee enter that fabled hot tub.
A few questions:
1. Is Beast Boy's hair black or green? The reason I ask is because in the show, it's black, but in the comics and promotional material, it's a slightly darker shade of green than his skin.
2. If Mrs. Martian didn't get woken up by Martian Manhunter in Failsafe, and died by the same beams the other members "died" from, would she herself slip into a coma?
3. I hope I'm not asking something with an obvious answer, but what was Artemis doing during Image? I was rewatching it the other day and noticed she didn't go with the team to Qurac.
4. It's totally fine if this isn't answered, I didn't exactly expect it to, but what's Gar's birthday? Dc has never given him a birth date in the comics and I was just curious. Hope it isn't a spoiler request.
1. I think it's dark green in all of the above.
2. We'll never know.
3. Does it matter? Anyway, hopefully I'll get to tell that story some day.
4. I generally don't give characters birthdates unless it matters in a specific story.
Hi, Greg. I have some questions.
1. Why was Icon erased from the cover and/or erased from the Issues 21 and 23?
1a. You said it wasn't you who erased him. Who was it, and why?
2. Are Icon and Rocket not going to be in the show anymore?
1. I honestly don't know. I was not given an explanation.
1a. The folks at DC.
1b. ASKED AND ANSWERED. (You know, up in question one. Seriously, why are you asking me the same question twice in the same post?)
2. They are and will continue to be in the television series.
1. How old is Catherine Cobert?
2. When was the android T. O. Morrow created?
3. How old is Lucius Fox?
4. How old is Perry White?
5. How old is Kevin Blankly?
1. At the end of Season One, she was 28.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. At the end of Season One, he was 52.
4. Don't know yet.
5. More dead than old.
I just wanna let you and BV know that I'm totally in love you YJ. The hiatus are like being on redrawls and watching reruns is like feeding on scraps from the bin. I ACHE with these longs waits and I can tell you right now I'm going to CRY if yj gets cancelled. Is there still hope?
Stay strong. We're back January 5th.
* How old is Duk Trang?
* How old is Enos Polk?
* How old is Dragon King?
* How old is Henry Yarrow?
* How old is Rako?
1. More dead than old.
2. Ditto.
3. I don't know yet. I'm working (slowly) on updating my timeline to include more minor characters from the comic book and series.
4. See the answer to question #1.
5. See the answer to question #3.
1. How old is "Ugly" Mannheim?
2. Why is he credited "Mannheim" on one episode and "Manheim" on another (one "n"/two "nn"s)?
3. How old is Clement Lemar
4. How old is Zucco
5. How old is Alec Rois?
1. I think this one will shock you: at the end of Season One, he was 23.
2. It should be two. Anything with one 'n' is a typo.
3. He's kinda more dead than old.
4. I don't know.
5. At the end of Season One, he was 68.
when can we consider "too late" to hope for CN to renew YJ for season 3?
There's no such thing, unless you have an air date that you consider too late.
Also keep in mind that pick-ups and the public announcements of said pick-ups are two entirely different things with two entirely different timeframes.
Why is Brainiac called the Collector of Worlds and not Brainiac?
Are you asking for an In-Universe answer or a behind-the-scenes answer?
Hi Greg, I'm a huge fan of Young Justice and am blow away after every episode. I am also a huge fan of Smallville too.
Seeing as both shows deal with Young superheroes I was wanted to just ask a couple of questions.
1) Are you familiar with Smallville? If so how familiar?
2) If so did it have any influence on your characters in Young Justice?
3) More particularly did Michael Rosenbaum's portrayal of Lex Luthor influence the way you write Lex on Young Justice?
4) Finally the Clark Kent presented on Smallville had a lot of very human flaws, something that I also noticed about Superman on Young Justice. Superman is often portrayed as an almost perfect individual so seeing those flaws on Smallville and Young Justice was a breath of fresh air. Did the Clark Kent of Smallville have any influence on how you wrote the character of Superman on Young Justice?
Thanks so much for your time and just know I am really hoping to see a season 3 of Young Justice, in my opinion anything less would be an insult to the brilliant product you and your team have produced
Greg Weisman says:
"I loved the pilot to Smallville, but quickly lost interest after that. I'd tune in occasionally when a promo piqued my interest - but I'm not going to base our version of Superman on anything at all from Smallville. I can't. I didn't see most of it."
[Response recorded on February 6, 2012.]
What's the best way to support Young Justice, you ask?
BUY THE MERCHANDISE!!! That's right, buy our YJ companion comic (in electronic or print editions). (The advantage there is that you get the bonus of more story and character!)
And buy the Young Justice T-Shirt, currently being offered for sale by Hot Topic:
I've already purchased three myself. (That's right; I don't get 'em for free.) One for me, and one each for my genomorphs. So I've done my part!! Have you done yours?
OH, AND HELP SPREAD THE WORD!!!!
Well, I've finally caught up and cleaned out the ASK GREG queue. We'll plan to reopen the site- at least briefly - when Young Justice: Invasion #23 hits the stands later this month. Then again, when DC Nation starts up with new Young Justice: Invasion episodes on January 5th, 2013.
I'm looking forward to reading your responses to the new issues and episodes - and to Black Manta's Celebrity Hot Tub. (If there seems to be a demand, I might be tempted to write more of the latter for this site.)
But right now... I'm going to take a short break.
I recently re-watched "Sentinel" and something I don't recall ever seeing brought up is that Nokkar speaks with an effect similar to Anubis. Two different voices, here's a clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=WMq7HtQnmLs#t=825s
First of all, I think this is a really cool effect, but I wonder what the reasons for him speaking like that are. Which voice is his "real voice," is there a translator built into his armor? Either way it does make him sound alien, and I like that. I'm just curious as to what your creative intent was here.
The link wouldn't open for me, but NO. To the best of my recollection, we didn't double track Nokkar's voice (as we did with Anubis-as-Avatar), though we may very well have futzed it - especially with his helmet on, and that futzing may have been similar (though not the same) as the futz we used on Anubis (when not an Avatar and for his piece of the double-tracked voice when he was an Avatar).
Is the bioship originally Megan's or did J'onn give it to her after they got to earth? If the former is true, did she sneak it onto his own ship when she stowed away?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Does it ever bother you that Young Justice is compared to Teen Titans a lot?
I mean, I loved Teen Titans as a kid, but I personally don't see much resemblance between the two shows other than the fact that they're DC heroes, and I think Young Justice is just brilliant.
It doesn't seem like it is anymore. At least not here on this site.
Who was Thomas Wayne father and was Thomas Wayne killed in 80's?
1. I haven't done research on that.
2. Yes.
I live with roommates directly across the street from a church and directly above a funeral home. We have a gargoyle in the window facing the church. Is this bad? We've been experiencing weird happenings in the house and get uneasy in a particular area of the house and I'd like to know if removing the gargoyle might help. I know that they're meant to keep evil out of a church and that's why they face away from them, but I wonder if having a gargoyle facing the church is bringing bad vibes to my apartment.
I doubt it. Probably the reverse. It's protecting you from something even worse.
(We're kidding around here, correct?)
Who were the two characters you wanted to include in the bridal shower scene in Satisfaction?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO RESPONSE.
What happened to the disc Robyn stole from Demona? Did the police find it in the wreckage of the airship?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO RESPONSE.
When Kid Flash, or Flash are running places, how do they know if they are going in the right direction? When Impulse was running across states, how would he know what state he's in? Like right now if someone told me to run to New York, New York, and I know it's South, & 6 hours by car, Maybe I could find it, cuz it's so iconic, and…a straight line from where I am. But if I had to find the Yukon, (In Canada…It's hard enough to find on a map) or North Carolina, I wouldn't. So how do they know where they are going without directions/GPS. Have they memorized the layout of the whole country? Stop & read signs? Do they have to take main roads to find where they want to go?
-Can Wally run across water?
- Could he do it carrying someone, or would their ears explode?
- Can Superman run across water?
1. Yes to all of the above, probably.
2. If he's built up a big enough head of steam.
3. I would think so.
4. Run? No. But he can fly across it.
Hello Greg.
I've noticed from both your work in Gargoyles, & Young justice that it seems very hard to affect the future by changing the past. It would seem that time travel can affect events, but not people? Like When Goliath went back in time and tried to talk with Demona, but when she woke up in their own timeline, was unchanged. Same with Impulse, he tried/continues to try to change his future, but somehow Nate still remembers what it was like before?
- Would everyone remember the difference in Barts timeline?
- How does Nate remember Bart, if they both said he would never be back to his time line, & so it stuck in the past?...So would then have never met ?
1. No.
2. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
Hello!
Logically Artemis would have had to begin training, or step it up before her death in March.
- How long did she have to decide, & then begin training again?
- When she did decide to go undercover, how/why did she decide on her new weapons? She couldn't just stick to archery, that's a given. So what make her pick her equipment?
-Did she train with Wally, or Dick before their façade took place?
-How many days (weeks?) did Artemis wait before she told Wally?
- What if she said no?
-What month is Artemis's Birthday?
1. You're assuming she EVER stopped training.
2. She's proficient in all the weapons that Tigress uses.
3. To a certain extent, although their regimens are very different.
4. I assume she's trained with Dick on and off for years, but again, see the answer to question one.
5. Tell him what?
6. I'm lost. No to what?
7. I haven't decided. Maybe she should be a Sagittarius.
1. How long has Ray Palmer been active as the Atom?
2. How long has Plasticman been actives as a crime fighter?
3. How long has Blue Devil been active as a crime fighter?
4. How long was Zatara active as a crimefighter before he became Doctor Fate?
5. How long has Martian Manhunter been active as a crime fighter?
1. Seven years before Team Year Zero.
2. Ditto.
3. Since June of Team Year Zero.
4. Twelve years before Team Year Zero.
5. Eight years before Team Year Zero.
NOTE: These dates relate to when they started fighting crime, not to when the public became aware of them fighting crime.
1. How long has John Stewart been active as a Green Lantern?
2. How long has Guy Gardner been active as a Green Lantern?
3. How long has Black Canary been active as a crime fighter?
4. When did Wonder Woman return to being a crime fighter during the modern age?
5. How long has Hawkman and Hawkwoman been active as crime fighters?
1. Three years before Team Year Zero.
2. Well, this is more complicated. Guy first became a Green Lantern seven years before Team Year Zero. Then came the coma. Guy then emerged from his coma in March of Team Year Zero.
3. Three years before Team Year Zero.
4. Nine years before Team Year Zero.
5. Six years before Team Year Zero.
You mentioned Roy lost his parents, was he stilled raised on a reservation before being taken in by Ollie on Earth-16?
There are a couple of different Speedy origins from the old, old comics. We'd probably combine them both - and maybe add something newer - but I haven't worked it all out yet, honestly.
has robin ever kissed Zatanna well i mean he leaned in first? because we have scene zatanna kiss robin 3 times, but not vice versa.
Over the years? Yes.
Is Happy Harbor's harbor(or haven) an artificicial one or a natural one? I also ask the same question about Bludhaven's harbor as well.
P.s If you don't know. Then I don't mind.
P.p.s Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer my "lucky stiff" question.
1. Yes.
1a. I assume so, but I don't know.
Stanford is one of the most expensive universities in the country. How are Wally and Artemis paying for it plus their apartment?
Stanford also offers needs-blind admission. If you can get in, they'll figure out financial aid for you after the fact.
Hi Greg!
If Superboy was made to be a replacement for Superman, why
would the scientists make him while knowing that he's only going to be half as powerful and therefore a poor replacement.
The fact Conner is half human means that his creators must of (logically) known that he'd
be a "inferior" version of Superman - So why bother?
The whole point of the cloning in the first place was to create a "Match" for Superman as Luthor put it, hence that psycho character called Match. When that failed, didn't settling for a downsized version defeat the purpose of the experiments in the first place?
In the comics, if was all justified by stating that the main goal of the scientists was just to unlock a dormant kryptonian ability (telekinesis) in Conner, but in your show that's not the case.
So what was their justification?
Thanks for answering our questions. :)
This has been answered by the show itself. Clearly you saw the episode with Match, so I don't understand your confusion. They tried making a clone as powerful as Superman, but they couldn't control it. So they tried again. (The phrase "poor replacement" is your term, by the way, not one that I - or I think the Light - would subscribe to.) How does settling on a combined Superman/Luthor clone defeat any purpose, even knowing Project Kr wouldn't be as powerful as Project Match? I just don't follow your logic. You're assuming we live in a world of absolutes, and we don't. It's like saying, hey, I want a car that gets 100 miles to the gallon. And the engineers say, sorry, the best we can do is 85, and you say - well, then forget it, I don't want a car at all.
My response: enjoy your walk.
[Oh, and if the point of this post was really to get me to admit that we made a mistake by not including Conner's tactile telekinesis from the original comics, than (a) you're breaking one of our guidelines (specifically #13) and (b) you've failed, as WE LIKE OUR SHOW. (And personally, I don't much care for tactile telekinesis.)]
Assuming Sportsmaster knew about about Wally and Artemis's relationship judging from the scene at the cemetery in "Satisfaction," would you mind telling us how he heard about it and how he feels about it?
1. Yes, I mind. Sorry.
2. I think you can guess.
1. Is Aqualad stronger then the average atlantean because he is an atlantean/human hybrid?
2. Do other atlanteans have telepathy with marine animals like Aquaman has?
3. Why can't Aquaman communicate with other sea animals telepathically?
4. Is there a difference biologically in an atlantean/human hybrid if the father was an atlantean and mother was a human as opposed to a human father and atlantean mother?
5. How many city states and other form of governments are there in Atlantis?
1. Why does that follow?
2. Aquaman has telepathy with marine MAMMALS.
3. Reverse the question: Why should he be able to?
4. I'd think every individual would be unique. But I'm not a trained biologist.
5. I haven't counted.
Hey Greg I have been meaning to ask this for a while, and I did check the archives but couldn't find anything on this, but I was wondering why do you answer fan questions? Its not a complaint I was just curious. Thanks for your time.
I've answered this often, most recently here: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=17563
how old is selena gonzalez?
You'd have to ask Art & Franco.
After season one, I figured Roy's serious personality might have been influenced by his programming. After seeing the original Roy, it is clear Roy has always been like that. Since Jim Harper is also a clone of the original Roy, my first question is this:
1) What is the reason for the personality difference between The two Roys and Jim Harper?
2) Was Jim Harper programmed to be a different hero?
3) In Season one, Jim explained to Superboy that he was Roy's uncle. It seems that this was programmed into him. Was this programmed into Red Arrow? In other words, did Roy know about his "relation" to Jim?
4) If Jim Harper were to pick up a bow and arrow, would he be a good archer?
5) Was Aqualad the only person on the Team who would know where Roy was hiding in the final episode of Season one?
1. You see Roy after waking up from an eight year deep-freeze to find his arm amputated and a clone has taken over his life, and you think that gives you some indication of what he was like personality-wise back in the day? Seriously?
2. Well... yeah... (Is this a trick question?)
3. Yes.
4. Not without any training at all.
5. Do you mean before Aqualad found him there or after?
1) How did Aquaman find out about Kaldur's parentage?
2) How old was Kaldur when Calvin Durham assumed the role of his father? Assuming, of course, Aqualad was born.
3) When did Black Manta assume his villainous role? (This is like asking when did Clark Kent become Superman)
4) Do Black Manta's henchmen know his secret identity?
5) Does the Light know his secret identity?
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. IS it like asking that? I'm not sure I agree.
4. What secret identity?
5. See above.
1) What is Black Manta's civilian name?
2) What is the reason for his animosity towards Aquaman?
3) Is there a reason why you gave Black Manta a sophisticated persona? He strikes me as a high class villain, like Luthor. In the comics, he just seems like an angry guy.
4) I gotta admit, Black Manta has a handsome face. Who takes credit for this design?
5) How close were Black Manta and Calvin Durham before Durham's defection?
1. I don't know.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. We played him the way he made sense to us to play him.
4. Phil Bourassa.
5. Close.
How old is the kid that resembles Stephanie Brown and the kid that looks like Virgil Hawkins in Before the Dawn?
I'm not sure who you're referring to. Someone who 'resembles Stephanie Brown'? Do you mean Stephanie Brown? If so, Stephanie Brown is twelve at the START of Season Two. I don't know how old she is by the time we introduced her: twelve or thirteen.
As for 'the kid that looks like Virgil Hawkins in Before the Dawn', I'm not sure why you think I'd have calculated an age for an incidental character just because he happens to look like someone from a previous cartoon show.
Hi, Greg,
Young Justice is the greatest show I've ever seen!
I'm so loving it and especially the arrow family. Though they are not the main characters, oh, sorry Artemis is. But I can see you put a great effort and many important plot on Speedy/Red Arrow (the clone Roy), and also Green Arrow and the Original Roy. Thank you very much.
I have to tell you I love Roy so so so much, and I started an archery lesson recently.
And then I found some interesting question about Roy's guise of Red Arrow.
When I learned to shoot an arrow, I have to wear an arm protector on my left arm, which is holding the bow. Because when I release the string, it would scrape over the left arm sometimes. it hurts a lot so as I need a protector. I'm not sure if the master archer also need the protector or not, but it seems even professional archer also use that kind of protector.
And then I found Roy's gloves, one is short and one is long. The long glove looks like an arm protector or have that kind of function, you know, protect the inside skin of the arm not to be scraped by the string. But then I found it's on the right arm. And Roy is using his left hand to hold the bow, I checked almost every episode in season1, Artemis sometimes using right hand, but Roy always using left hand.
So if he really want to protect his arm, he should wear that long glove on his left hand. Wearing on right hand is meaningless except good looking.
Here is the question:
Is it some design mistake? Because if I didn't go to archery, I also didn't know we need an arm protector on the hand we use to hold the bow.
Or is it because Roy always has a rush morning and wearing the wrong gloves on wrong hand? ( like we sometimes wearing wrong sock on different feet)
Or he's so good at shooting and won't let the string scraping his arm or he don't care, so he just wearing the unsymmetrical gloves for stylish looking? (I can understand and that's really cool and good looking! )
And one more things, for the method to draw a string.
the standard method I learned is using 3 fingers. Index finger upon the arrow, middle finger and ring finger under the arrow.
Most of the time I found Roy or Ollie only use 2 finger, index finger up and middle finger down.
That looks natural and it's a variation of the method above, but it's harder to draw a string and give more strain to the finger and less people using this. I just hope Roy's finger won't hurt too much after a battle when he keep using 2 finger.
There are some other draw you could refer to if you want to, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bow_draw
That's interesting and explained why people using this kind of method.
Okay, I think that's all I want to ask, another question about Roy is already in the queue so I won't ask again.
Thank you for giving us such a great show. I'm waiting for the return of DC Nation next January. And also waiting for the 3rd season.
(If could, I wish it could has a net platform, like nickelodeon. There would get much more fans who would love this show, because as far as I know YJ have a world wide fandom and I think most would like to see a live on the net. not waiting for the itunes. But, I don't know CN or agreements between WB and CN, so... who am I to say? Just wish YJ have a good broadcast way and please do not always put on hiatus... That's really a torture.)
I'm afraid I don't know the answers to these questions.
And I assume you know that the hiatuses are not up to me.
sorry about my earlier confusing question, if you remember it.
i checked the unanwered questions and the answered questions, and i can't believe no one has asked this yet.
1)Does anyone besides Roy, Jade, and Lian to an extent know of Roy and Jade's marriage? (I'm ask about if they know about Lian, but that seems too spoil alert - ish
2) Does Sportsmaster know that Roy is Lian's father?
3) When Roy Harper's parents died, why did he live with his uncle?
I'm really sorry if you already seen these questions, but i looked at the unanswered questions and the answered question, using any keywords that could lead up to them, and found that no questions were close to mine
1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Uncle?
How old was Jason Todd when he died?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
What can we do as long time fans to regenerate Disney's interest in returning Greg Weisman's version of Gargoyles to the screen? Writing campaigns and Gatherings do not seem to motivate them-might we ever see daylight on this?
I don't know. I'm sorry.
Dear Greg,
First, let me start off by saying that I think Young Justice is one of the best cartoons currently out there. It's so mature and epic and the animation and character design are amazing. I really wish CN would realize what a gem they've got and would start promoting the hell out of it (hm…maybe I should put that on my Christmas list).
For research purposes, I have two questions:
1.Did Young Justice team members who have homes outside of Mount Justice, like Dick, Wally and Artemis, have personal living quarters at Mount Justice as well?
2.Has Nightwing surpassed Black Canary in terms of fighting skills?
Thanks in advance!
1. They had places they could crash, and they kept changes of clothes there.
2. See, now, the Hulk is more powerful because the madder he gets, the stronger he gets. But the Thing can still beat him if he keeps his wits about him.
Dear Greg,
While I lament the fact that we're not going to see more of the delightful young Robin you created in YJ season 1 (because in my humble opinion, he's the best cartoon rendition of Dick Grayson's Robin ever: such an amazing character design, awesome personality and skills and perfect voice actor), I love seeing your version of Nightwing in Young Justice: Invasion. Again, awesome character design there and Jesse McCartney does a great job voicing him. Dick Grayson's obviously grown and matured, but there are still shades of season one's Dick Grayson that I really enjoy seeing. Though he certainly does seem to be becoming more like Batman in terms of the decisions and sacrifices he makes, I like that his leadership style seems more gentle and is geared towards positive reinforcement. He cares about his team and shows it.
Anyway, my question:
As team leader, why doesn't Nightwing go on so many missions anymore? I'm asking because Aqualad, when he was team leader in the first season, accompanied the Team on most missions, but Nightwing doesn't seem to based on what he said in Depths: "After a year of leading this team, I'm peckish for a little action". Is it because the Team's grown so big that most of the time he has to stay behind to coordinate? Because Mal seemed to be doing a good job of that in ep 201 Happy New Year... I'm just wondering because Dick Grayson's my favorite character and I'd love to see more of him. I hope we'll get to see more of Nightwing in action in the second half of the season.
Thanks for putting so much time and effort into interacting with fans!
Can't wait till January! ;)
There's a lot going on. As you've seen he goes on missions fairly often, but sometimes he needs to stay behind. And he rarely goes on 'routine' missions. But you should also keep in mind, that he obviously had ulterior motives for wanting to go on the Cape Canaveral mission - motives that he couldn't reveal, and so had to use misdirection to explain why he was going.
i'm not trying to get any spoilers here, but I'm wondering: Do you imagine an end point for Gargoyles and the Gargoyles universe? You clearly seem to have enough story ideas for hundreds of years of these characters lives (and I know you've probably thought of how some main character's deaths would go), but if you got the chance to go on for as many seasons (or spin offs) as you wanted, would you choose an ending point? Or just keep going and going? Could there be a final image or moment that just sums it all up for you?
Thanks Greg! On a personal note I still miss the show all the time and plan on showing it to my girlfriend soon!
There's no end point.
1) Are Dick, Wally, and Artemis fans of the show Celebrity Hockey, or were they just watching it because there was nothing good on TV?
2) What is that show about, exactly? Is it like Dancing with the Stars, but with hockey?
3) Has Bruce Wayne ever been asked to appear in an episode of Celebrity Hockey? If so, did he accept?
(PS: no show makes me screech in emotional agony quite like Young Justice, so thank you and everyone else for doing a great job!!)
1. What's not to like?
2. It's like hockey. But with celebrities.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
(P.S. You're welcome.)
I loved the Gorilla City story in the YJ comics. Regarding those enhanced gorillas:
1) Did all the enhanced gorillas become telepaths, or just some?
2) While it appears they haven't been subjected to Kobra-Venom (and who would want super-strong hostages?), were the gorilla children given brain enhancements?
Thanks for taking the time for these questions.
1. All.
2. It's more complicated than you're implying, but SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
One of my favorite episodes of SSM is "Gangland" because of the awesome fights mixed with that beautiful opera score. Ever since I've been obsessed with finding out the name of each piece, and after a thorough research, I think I got it. It would mean a lot if you could confirm this:
- "Pari siamo": The meeting turns sour; Hammerhead turns coat.
- "Ella mi fu rapita, Parmi veder le lagrime": Silvermane suits up. The fight moves downstairs.
- "Scorrendo uniti remota via": Ock and Silermane fight Tombstone. Ock turns on Silvermane.
- "Pari siamo": Spidey catches chandelier. Fight ensues.
- "La Donna é Mobile" (duh) Fight continues outside.
- "Ella mi fu rapita, Parmi veder le lagrime": Ock closes in on Spidey, Fat Lady sings, Tombstone saves Spidey. Spidey disassembles Silvermane. Sable threats Hammerhead. Ock tries to vivisect Spidey.
- "Cortigiani, vil razza dannata": Fight moves to the sewers.
I hope YJ gets a third season and we get to see something similar like this!
I'm sorry. I tried to find some document on my computer that might confirm or correct your assumptions, but I couldn't find anything. There might be something in my hard copy files, but those are currently boxed up, and I can't get to them right now.
I'd like to ask a few YJ questions that I really hope don't come across the wrong way. They're just a few things I've noticed that may be errors/unclear (or just me being oblivious). Obviously I love the show and the comics, and think you and your team do a great job.
1) In "Bereft", Robin says the soldiers are of the Bialyan Republican Army, but Bialya is a monarchy. Is that an error or was Bialya formerly a republic (or something even more complicated)?
2) In "Common Denominators", after the Cultists abducted Dr. Burr, hitting Robin in the process, Batman asks Robin if he's okay. Robin responds "Feeling the aster. But fine." Shouldn't that be "Not feeling the aster. But fine." or am I misinterpreting 'aster'?
In "Depths", in the scene in the Cave at the end, we hear crying-in particular it sounds to me like male and female crying. Though it looks to me as though Raquel, and perhaps Karen, were crying none of the male characters appeared to be.
3a) Who was crying?
3b) In general, how do you write scenes like this, where you have a number of characters but only a few are seen up close and/or have lines? Does the script detail the reactions for each or is there just a general description of the group's reaction and the details are left to storyboarding/animation?
Can't wait for #23 and the return of the show. Thanks for your time.
1. Bialya is - in theory - a constitutional monarchy, with a democratically elected REPRESENTATIVE government. (Though in practice, it's a dictatorship.) Because of this, propaganda is used throughout Bialyan society, and names don't necessarily reflect truth.
2. No, you're right. That's an error. Robin must have been more addled than he realized.
3a. I think only M'gann is crying out loud. At least that's how it is in the script (and in my memory). But I don't have the finished episode handy to check.
3b. There's no set rule.
Why it took 5 years to find what happen in the missing 16 hours?
Why did it take 116 years to fight the Hundred Years' War?
Because that's how long it took.
Was there a time when Karen was keeping her Bumblebee alter-ego a secret from Mal? After all, their Cave designations seem to suggest that there was a bit of a gap between her joining and him getting involved with the Team.
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
But since their designations are in different categories, I don't think they "suggest" anything one way or another.
Does Beast Boy get on all right with Lagoon Boy? Gar seemed to want Conner and M'gann to get back together in "Earthlings", so I'm thinking that he doesn't like L'gaan...
They get along all right, but Gar is in need of consistency in his life. When he met M'gann and Conner they were a couple, so he's still rooting for them.
Why was Rocket omitted from issues #21 and #22 of the companion comic when she had been shown with Zatanna in issue #20, who appeared alongside her in that issue?
I have no comment at this time. Mostly because I honestly don't know why.
1) Did Batgirl know Jason Todd before he died?
2) Did Batgirl know any of the other three mystery Team members from the time skip?
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. I'm not sure who you're defining as "mystery" and who you're not.
Is Superboy's birthday really the 21st of March or does he just pretend it is?
It is.
In season 1, M'gann was 48 years old but her age in human biology was 16. What is her age in human biology in season 2?
About 18, give or take.
Was earth 16 version of Lex Luthor based off of the golden age version of Lex Luthor?
I'm sure he was the cumulative combination of all the Lexs that came before. But specifically? No.
It isn't really much of a question, but all in all, I just wanted to say "Thank you". Thank you for all the high quality shows you produced that enriched my childhood and still give me intelligent and gripping entertainment in my favorite media, animated shows, as an adult.
Most off all, I also wanted to express my admiration for your resolve. While privately I may often joke bitterly about the "Weisman curse" whenever one of your shows gets unfairly canceled way too soon despite (arguably) having the best quality in the entire program. You will always have my gratitude for continuing to produce great shows despite all the stones placed in your way.
As for questions:
1. If you had the means to, would you do a Young Justice/Gargoyles Crossover?
2. Sorry to bring up this unfairly missed opportunity gain, but if you had remained on the staff for "The Roswell Conspiracies", do you think that show would at some point crossed over with Gargoyles?
3. In the spirit of question one, do you think Demona would make a good Red Lantern?
In any case, once again, thank you. Thank you for raising the quality and complexity of the already great W.I.T.C.H. cartoon, thank you for producing the best animated Spider-Man series to date, thank you for bringing Starshiptroopers to the screen in the way it should have been in the first place, thank you for doing such a great job with Max Steel, thank you for doing a huge part in keeping animated DC material extremely high quality, especially at the moment, and of course, thank you for Gargoyles, probably my favorite franchise ever, and I am rooting for you to one day get it back and do more wonders with it.
1. I don't think so. Maybe as a radio play. But I don't see the two universes as being particularly compatible.
2. No. Two different companies.
3. See, this kinda thing doesn't interest me much. If you think so, great.
Thanks for all your kind words.
Hi Greg,
I'm a big fan of the show and I had a brief question that hopefully does not delve into spoilers.
In the Mount Justice memorial grotto, is there any pattern to the size and location of the holograms relative to each other?
More specifically, are the holograms placed in the order they died? I'm not asking when anyone actually died, if that helps.
Thanks for your time!
No and no.
The sizes are all the same relatively, although perspective (and maybe some flawed animation) may occasionally make it look otherwise.
Are the light is kind of secret society
Yes.
What made the asteroid of the justice league wtachtower
What made the asteroid? I dunno. God? Physics?
If you want to know more about the Watchtower, look here: http://brandonvietti.blogspot.com/
Brandon did a substantial post about it.
Sorry, I forgot to ask you.
In the episode Coldhearted, when Batman was assigning them on the mission, is my ears deceiving me, or did the BATMAN just sigh? It's just shocking if he did. From what I know, Batman never sighs.
If we're talking about the same moment, we called it an "<annoyed exhale>" in the script. But I'm not sure where you got the idea that Batman NEVER sighs.
I've got a few questions... hope you don't mind.
1. In the episode Before The Dawn, you know the scene where Batgirl passes Bumblebee to Nightwing and said that he needed to make a fast exit? Yeah, is that really happening in the comics? Cause if it did, I'd like to read the issue.
2. When did Miss Martian started making people into catatonic states? I'm curious.
3. In the episode Homefront in season 1, was Barbara jealous? At least a little spark of Dick/Babs.
Oh, and representing some other authors and myself from FanFiction.Net who likes Nightwing and Batgirl, we are very thrilled that you made Batgirl hold Nightwing's hand. Just that scene, and we're jumping.
1. I don't know what you mean. It happened on screen. Obviously, you saw it. So...
2. On screen, during Season One.
3. Yes.
4. I honestly don't know what scene you're referring to.
Dear Greg,
I simply wished to thank you for posting the Series Bible for Stargate: The Hunted. It pleases me to no end, and makes me declare with the utmost sincerity 'WHY WAS THIS NOT MADE?' (Rhetorical) Good luck in all of your future projects.
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
In YJ, who was created first? Superheroes or the unarmed Metropolitan Police Service
What?
I was wondering how old Dick Grayson was when Bruce became his ward?
That never happened. Bruce is too old to be Dick's ward.
If Klarion is a Lord of Chaos how does he maintain long term goals or relationships? Such things would seem to fly in the face of the concept that he the lord of(or a physical representation of)
Teekl helps keep him on track, more or less. There's a little order in all chaos, and a little chaos in all order.
Dear Greg.
My question is regarding the W.I.T.C.H. series and it would be greatly appreciated if you would take your time and answer my question. I will try to keep my questions as short as possible.
1. First of all, I loved the W.I.T.C.H. as a youth, it teached me important and valuable things in life. I would hope future generation can have the same opportunity to watch series like this. I think the series came to an abrupt end, when instead it was set for a new season, given introductionen of the new teacher. Why did it end like this?
2. Is there any chance that the series will see a resurrection?
3. What can I do as a fan, to affect the possibility of a resurrection?
4. Can you do anything to get all of us who wish that our dreams of a season, not just remain a dream, but a reality? If not, who can?
Once again, if you would answer, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Simon
1. It wasn't picked up for new episodes. I'm assuming because of low ratings, but no one ever gives me a definitive answer on this sort of thing.
2. ANY chance? Sure. But I see no indication of it currently, and I have no reason to expect it.
3. Honestly, at this stage: nothing. It's way too long after the fact. I mean, you can try to generate a groundswell by gathering a LOT of likeminded fans, but when I say a LOT, I mean a LOT!!!!
4. All I can really do is say that if they do bring it back, I'd love to produce more episodes.
4a. In theory, someone at Disney. But I have no idea who.
Hi, I'd like to ask a few Wolf related questions, if I may.
In the wild gray wolves live for around 8-13 years (a bit more in captivity). Since Wolf appeared to be the leader of his pack in "Alpha Male" (the title being a hint!), that would suggest he was a fully grown adult (3+ years) at the time. That would mean Wolf would be physically quite old by Season Two, but he doesn't appear to have aged.
1) How old is Wolf?
2a) Does Wolf not show his age and/or have an extended lifespan as a result of the Brain's experiments on him?
2b) If yes, is the same true of humans or other animals enhanced with Kobra-Venom?
In this interview (http://www.aquamanshrine.com/2012/09/aquaman-shrine-interview-with-greg.html) you mentioned that Wolf was Earth-16's version of Krypto, and that you considered naming him Krypto. That would seem to imply there is no "real" Kryptonian Krypto. But in "Alpha Male", when KF suggested that name, M'gann said it was taken.
3) Is there a Krypto on Earth-16? If not, what was M'gann referring to?
4) Was Wolf linked into the telepathic simulation in "Failsafe", or was he just in the room?
Thanks for your time.
1. Well, by your own calculations, he's at least eight or nine - assuming we buy into your calculations.
2a. We'll have to wait and see.
2b. We'll have to wait and see.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3a. She didn't SAY it was taken, she ASKED if it was taken.
4. He was not linked.
Mr. Weisman,
In a previous answer you said M'gann gave Garfield his suit and that it is Martian, like her own.
1. Does that mean it can change its appearance like M'gann's clothing can?
2. If yes then can Garfield willingly change the look of his suit?
1. In theory, yes, but in practice, Gar doesn't have that kind of control over it. Miss Martian has basically pre-set it with two forms: his uniform and the collar version it reduces down to when he morphs into a beast.
2. He can change it back and forth from collar to uniform. That's all.
I have two questions about the T.O. Morrow:
1.How old was he when you created your android?
2.In 2016 he alive?
I have two questions about the hawks:
3. How old is Hawkman?
4. Why the name of Shayera is Shayera Thal, not Shayera Hol, since she is married with Kater Hol?
They have children, or protege?
Thanks for your time. I love YJ hopefully have a third and fourth season, and why not a fifth?
1. All this can be inferred by comparing his age to the ages of his androids. If you don't feel like looking up the ages here and doing the math, I recommend checking out the Young Justice wiki, where they have, in essence, done the work for you: http://youngjustice.wikia.com/wiki/Young_Justice_Wiki
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. By the end of Season One, Hawkman was 39.
4. You're assuming the customs on Thanagar are the same as on Earth?
4a. They have no children, which I'm only answering because it's dead obvious.
4b. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
5. Why not?
1. For green lanterns in general, does the yellow/wood/beavers weakness where rings cannot effect certain things for unexplained reasons still apply?
2. Does the Young Justice comic have looser guidelines than what the cartoon possesses? I ask because a few people asked questions regarding things like character sexuality and you stated your general views on the matter but added that if you pushed these things to be included in the cartoon it would risk being pulled.
So do the same rules apply for both?
1. Beavers?
2. Yes. If anything, I'd say the comic seems a little stricter. But just a little.
After "Revelations" do Elisa and the gargoyles now believe in the existence of the Illuminati?
Yes.
Knowing that the Guardians of the Universe exist in Earth-16, how many of them are there?
I haven't counted. More than five, less than twenty.
What is David Xanatos's favorite literary genre?
I'll leave that to your imagination.
It's official. I am now in the habit of talking to myself out-loud in front of other human beings. That's not a good sign, is it?
Troll means to purposely do something mean for your own enjoyment. When people on this site call you a troll, they pretty much mean that they love the emotional roller coster you put them in when they watch Young Justice. I noticed on some responses that you became frustrated wen people called you a troll. Just wanted you to know that you're amazing and thank you for bringing us Young Justice. Congrats to you and your team! :)
Hmmm. I thought to troll meant to try to create strife - which I do NOT think that I do. I also don't think I'm ever trying to be mean, certainly not with the show and not even on this site. I can get mischievous. I can be a smartass. And, God knows, I can get annoyed as hell. But I still don't see how any of that rises to the level of trolling. So thanks for the kind words, but I still object to the term being applied to me.
Surely this would not be a spoiler question, but if it is, I apologize. When Garth and Tula joined the Team, did they wear their outfits from Downtime/ comic appearances, or something different?
They wore the outfits you've seen.
I'd like to thank you for recently sharing with us the series bible for the "Stargate" series you had worked on but which never got made. I've only skimmed it so far, unfortunately, but it looked appealing, especially with its use of Egyptian mythology (and the hint of Norse mythology with the mention of "Asgardians", though I know, of course, that both elements were part of the "Stargate" property before you had the opportunity to write for it).
You're welcome. Let me know what you think after you've read it.
Hello Greg
Just had a few comments I would like to submit, given my love of both the YJ cartoon and the ongoing comic book series. Given the hiatus as of late on the cartoon, I love that I have the comics to tide me over, even more so that there are little instances in them that are unknown otherwise (at least so far) I really love the way the different issues intertwine with each other, as well as the television series. You can really tell all the thoughts and effort you and your team put into it.
As for the television series, I really do love it, though not every aspect of it. I must admit I am not overly fond of the portrayal of Kid Flash, though I am a very biased Flash-family fan. The voice acting is great and I love the animation, plus his characterization in Season One I adored. I just really don't understand why he was given such a short end of the stick power-wise. Again, this may be because I am a big fan of the comics, but it really seems that he was sold short here. I understand you do not like over-powered super heroes and I certainly can agree on that aspect.
However, Wally within the comic books achieved so much: overcoming his own personal emotional barriers, breaking through the limits that his mentor could not surpass, managing to make peace with some of the rogues and maintaining that superhero level while married and raising two kids. (I'll admit I'm partial to the comics where Wally outran death but that certainly falls into the overpowered scenerio)
It just seems like the Wally in Season Two has truly been left behind in the dust, particularily with the introduction of Impulse (though, I do love the way you have handled that character) As much as Bloodlines was an awesome episode, especially given my love of the Flash family, it is almost painful for me to watch. Wally's relationship with Barry is something that ran strong in the comics and I loved the references to it you made in the comics and the cartoon, though briefly. Comic Number 16 remains one of my favorites for this reason. This episode seemed to just rip that to shreds. I really felt for Wally, felt like he had been replaced, especially with Bart's "You don;t have the Allen family eyes." Though, this emotional response MAY have been the point but I digress.
However, none of your other projects have ever disappointed me and given the role that has been building up in Season Two, I am extremely interested in what Wally's involvement with Artemis and Kaldur/Dick's plan will turn out to be. He has not seemed to have much involvement thus far, aside from being connected to Artemis and I sincerely hope that changes but I shall wait patiently and see what twists and turns your team has planned.
That said though, I do like your team's handling of pretty much everyone else. Like I said, I admit to being Flash biased (and given Wally's extinction thus far in the DC Comics 52, I guess I can be a bit over the top with my favorite Flash) but I adore how you have developed Miss Martian and Superboy especially.
Miss Martian's rationalization of what she's doing is extremely intriguing and given her consequences to it in the last episode, I'm wondering what that has done to her psyche and her spirit. You left us very much at a cliffhanger, as your team is so good at doing. You certainly surprised us with the break up within the 5 year time split but I like how Conner and M'gann have still managed to work together. it gives them a lot of props for remaining "professional" and their little interactions away from the others, in particular when they discussed their reasons for ending the relationship, gave a lot of depth and development to their characters.
I also find this version of Tim to very interesting, though he has not said much as of yet. Thank you for not combining Jason and Tim into one character because they really are important separate characters. Most seem too afraid to touch Jason with a ten foot stick, usually making Tim a watered down mix of 90% Jason and 10% Tim. So, I really am interested in what you plan for Tim in this season. His interactions with Dick are intriguing as well, given their brother-type status. When you pulled Batman out of the picture mid-way through, this became even more thought provoking and I look forward to seeing Tim's development and use in this season.
Your version of Oliver Queen is also one of the first I can truly say I like. Usually, he comes off as being an arrogant jerk but I find him very human(for lack of a better word) and realistic here. I especially loved his reactions to the original Roy returning and Artemis' "death." It really put into perspective that he does have a link with his proteges, something that is not addressed a lot. I applaud you and your team for these great character arcs. Given that Artemis is in fact alive, Oliver's realization of this, if it ever comes, will be fascinating to see play out...though I wonder if he knows Red Arrow Roy has a daughter with an ex-villain...
I do have one question; I have looked through the archives and hope that I have not missed it already being asked. If it has, please excuse me for missing that.
Q1: What is your favorite type of villain to create? Some people like power-hungry emotionally neutral, some like physically strong obsessed, some like manipulative, intelligent schemers(those are my personal favorites) and I was wondering if you had a preference to the ones you like to create.
Well, thank you for listening to my ramblings. I truly do love the world you have created for Young Justice and I look forward to learning more about it.
1. My favorite villain is one that acts as a counterpoint to some aspect of the hero.
As for Wally, I like him BETTER because he's doing the heroic thing with less power to back it up. What I like about him is his HUMANITY. I think we've shown that. I don't think "Bloodlines" was a tragic moment for him at all. He wasn't replaced in the least. Rather, he was shown to be part of a grand tradition from Jay to Barry to Wally to Bart. Don't take a stray comment here and there from either Wally or Bart to indicate actual hostility. They tease. It's family stuff.
Hey greg
I wanted to ask on why npbody cared about superboy's birthday besides Megan and Wendy.
Does he have close relationship with their team at all or they are just teammates?
Did superman ever went to his birthday parties?
1. It wasn't about caring, it was about this MASSIVE distraction: ARTEMIS' DEATH. Look, I occasionally forget my good friends' birthdays even when I don't have a huge tragic excuse. So I think his friends can be forgiven for not celebrating in this case. Especially since in the past, M'gann set it up for them, and they were always given a reminder. Besides, you don't know what happened after that scene with Wendy. Others may have wished him a happy birthday later in the day. And finally, you also need to keep in mind that Superboy always claimed to HATE celebrating his birthday.
2. He's close with most of them, especially the ones he's known the longest, i.e. Dick, Wally, Artemis, Zatanna, Raquel, Mal, Karen, Garfield and Barbara. For obvious reasons, he and La'gaan aren't exactly good buddies, and there is likewise obvious tension these days between Conner and M'gann. But Conner gets along well with Tim, Cassie, Jaime and Bart; he just doesn't know them as well. He even gets along about as well with Roy (Red Arrow) as anyone. (And frankly, even the tension with La'gaan is, I think, exaggerated by the fandom. I don't think Conner and La'gaan dislike each other, so much as La'gaan feels like he must compete with Conner, and Conner still has issues with M'gann.)
3. Yes, always. But it's hard to do when you're on trial on Rimbor.
Hi Greg! I'm loving Young Justice so far. Season 2 looks like it's going to be really interesting. I've only got a few questions, most of them about La'gaan. I don't see why he gets so much hate. He's hilarious, and I'm very glad he'll be getting some more character development in the future.
1. How close were Kaldur and La'gaan back when they both lived in Atlantis?
2. What city-state is La'gaan from?
3. What do La'gaan's parents think about him working with the king on the surface? Are they proud?
1. They were friends. Not best friends. Kaldur's best friend was Garth. La'gaan's is Blubber. But they were pretty good friends, when one takes the age difference into account.
2. I haven't nailed that down yet.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Is Wally a Harry Potter fan?
I'd think so.
What was Sportsmaster reaction when he knew his daughters were dating two 'good guys'? Does he dislike gingers now?
1. Disgust, I'd imagine.
2. I have to say with a red-headed wife and two red-headed kids, this trend toward dissing "gingers" pisses me off.
In Players Chapter Three, we see Sphere go through a Zeta-tube, designated as 'Sphere, C-01'. I have some questions about the C designations.
1. What type of beings are the C desigs reserved for? Something like pets or non-human(/Martian/Kryptonian/etc)
2. Does Spere have to be... Well, a sphere... To use the Zeta-tube? Like, he couldn't go through in 'Super-Cycle' form?
3. Would it follow that Wolf's designation woulda be C-02?
1. Pets, basically.
2. Depends on the size of the specific Zeta-Tube. Some are bigger than others.
3. It would follow, but that doesn't mean it's true. You'll have to wait and see.
I was watching an episode of Justice League a while ago; in it, Martians look vastly more humanoid in their natural forms than YJ's do.
If you haven't answered this already, would you mind telling what the design process was for the Martians' natural forms?
Thanks! And thanks for bring us this show; it's what got me back into superheroes.
The designs were Phil Bourassa and Brandon Vietti's take on the White Martian source material. We just then applied it to ALL Martians. In short, we needed Miss M to look monstrous enough that we would understand her reluctance to reveal her true form.
In Players, Chapter Two, on the title page, a character can be seen between Grodd and Black Adam. This character is a yellowish color and looks to be slightly robotic. I can not identify this character. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If we will find out who this is through the actual storyline, feel free to disregard my message.
Thank you.
Okay, for starters, every chapter has two title pages - one near the beginning and one at the end - but from context, I assume you're talking about the first. Secondly, there are also two characters between Grodd and Adam. One is Tommy Terror. But I assume you're talking about the other one. And I don't know the answer. You'd have to ask Chris Jones - and even then I might have to disagree.
Hello, Greg!
1. I know you've been asked about Bart's age several times, but something has been bothering me about the answers you gave, so I hope you'll forgive my asking about it again. Once you said that Impulse is 13 years old, making it sound like his thirteenth birthday has already passed. However, a more recent reply would imply that he hasn't turned 13 yet, as your reply was "Assuming he lives up to the end of Team Year Six, he'll be 13." Can you clarify this? It's caused quite a bit of confusion.
2. Is Wally still on good terms with his parents in Invasion?
3. The next two are rather silly, but I am really curious: What are Tim, Cassie and Gar's best subjects at school (I'm assuming that Tim and Cassie go to actual schools while Gar gets homeschooled by Snapper)?
4. Would you mind arranging the newer heroes [namely, Tim, Cassie, Gar, La'gaan, Jaime, Bart and Roy (Arsenal)] from shortest to tallest?
5. This question is partly inspired by the fact that Legacy is coming up. Do you have any opinion on video games as a monde of storytelling as compared to cartoons or comic books?
Thanks for your time. Invasion has been awesome so far (I don't think I've ever been so emotionally invested in a television so before) and I can't wait to see more!
1. The thing you need to keep in mind is that with very few exceptions (only Superboy, Nightwing and Kid Flash come to mind), I haven't assigned actual birthdates to most characters. I know what year they were born in relative to Season One, a.k.a. Team Year Zero, but I don't have a month or a day for them. So I can only answer how old they are at the end of a given year, since in theory their birthdays could be anywhere from January 1st to December 31st. AND... I don't want to create spoilers by saying that such-and-such will be X years old at the end of the year, when that seems to imply that him or her will MAKE IT to the end of the year. I refuse to guarantee that. With Season One characters, I have it a touch easier. The Season is complete, so the audience knows who survived and who didn't. No spoilers involved. But Season Two characters are more difficult. Now, normally, I could just say that character Y was X years old just prior to the start of Season Two, i.e. just prior to episode 201, i.e. at the end of Team Year Five. But this creates a particular difficulty with Impulse, as he wasn't present in this era at the start of Season Two. So I can't use that trick. And again, I don't want - at this time - to nail down a specific date of birth (month and day). Since Bart didn't arrive in Team Year Six until February 28th - and since I don't know when his birthday is - I honestly don't know how old he is during Season Two. He might be twelve, or he might be thirteen. By the end of Team Year Six, he will definitely be thirteen - assuming he SURVIVES. And, again, I won't guarantee that. I hope that clears it up.
2. Yes, why?
3.Gar is homeschooled by <ahem> Mr. Carr. Anyway, I don't know. It's not that it's too silly for me to know. I just haven't given enough thought to it.
4. I don't have a size-comp handy, I'm afraid. But it seems clear to me that La'gaan is the tallest of that group and that Gar is the shortest. Bart is probably the second shortest. Jaime's probably the second tallest, but Tim and Cassie are about the same height. As for the original Roy... I just can't remember off the top of my head.
5. I have very little experience with video games. But my experience working with Sharon Scott and the folks at Little Orbit has been extremely positive, so I'm all for it when it's done right.
1.How old is Mister Freeze?
2.How old is Amanda Spence?
3.How old is Red Tornado?
1. By the end of Season One, Mister Freeze is 50.
2. By the end of Season One, Amanda is 23.
3. By the end of Season One, Red Tornado is 62.
Do you have a twitter account? Do you know Brandon Vietti does?
1. No.
2. Yes.
how do you describe yjwiki as a resource and fan site? what would you change/improve there?
If you're talking about this site:
http://youngjustice.wikia.com/wiki/Young_Justice_Wiki
...then it seems pretty great to me.
From all the VAs, Jesse McCartney is arguably the most famous/popular. How is it to work with him?
A pleasure.
I know by now the original members of the team all know Dick's identity, but do the newer members know?
Some do, some don't.
I feel horrible post three back to back, but I forgot to include a link to an article I found when I was looking up stuff about the comic rumor.
When I first read about the comics ending, my research led me to: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/young-justice-comic-canceled-tv-show-implications.html
I'd seen the article, but I still can't comment at this time.
I'm sorry to post back to back, but I notice a couple of mistakes.
The website is Fanfiction.net and I meant to say that I'd hate to see the series end.
I got the gist, but thank you.
I was reading some stuff on fanficion.net and there is a rumor going around that the YJ tie-in comics will end after February. I have several online friends that are upset by this rumor, but so am I, YJ is the first series of comics ever that I started collecting and have every one so far. I'd have to see the series end after the five year gap is filled in. Please, if you can, is there any truth to this rumor or is it just that, a rumor.
What is Black Lightning's civilian identity?
What are my options?
Hey Greg. I'm wondering if you've seen Arrow, the recent Live-Action series about Oliver Queen. Personally, I liked it a lot, especially with the focus on the character's civillian identity rather than his antics as a vigilante.
If you've seen it, what did you think? Did you like some of the ideas they had?
And I know you're a fan of Black Canary, which is also why I asked, since Laurel Lance is a major supporting character. Did you like what they did with her?
Thanks for taking the time to ask all these questions!
I haven't seen it.
Hi Greg! I wanted to ask about your methods of storytelling. For adapted shows like The Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice, you seem to have planned out certain events and arcs in advance and seem to include nothing if you aren't going to follow up on it later. Do you have a personal set of rules or guidelines for when you work on projects like these?
It's no different on any project. We try to plan as much in advance as possible, while still leaving ourselves open to discoveries along the way.
Hello Mr. Greg Weisman,
I saw that Disney.com is streaming the complete series of Gargoyles after such a long time of being off the air. As a result I wanted to ask if this meant we might be getting another Gargoyle comic series? Or some form of continuation in the near future? Hopefully with you being a part of it (if it happens)
I also wanted to say thank you for all the work you've done over the years with Spider-Man, W.I.T.C.H, Gargoyles and Young Justice.
You're welcome.
I don't see how the two things are connected. I'd always love to do more Gargoyles though - in any medium.
Hey Greg, I have a question regarding Young Justice.
We all know that Superman and Batman are allies and such but there are some works that treat their relationship differently. In your take with Young Justice are they best friends or just respected teammates? I know they have some type of kind relationship sense they talked to each other at a restaurant.
They're good friends.
When I was watching W.I.T.C.H., I always wondered one thing. Does Mr.Huggles have some sort of increased intelligence when he's in his Regent form? Normally, he's just a regular dormouse. Napoleon was already magically enhanced, so does the same apply to Huggles so he understands when to regent up?
Sure.
How old is Black Lightning in Season 2.
ASKED AND ANSWERED.
Well. I've been trying to look at things like the designation's numbers and such. I believe to have figured out the whole designation list for the Justice League designation list but not the whole Team list so here are my questions:
1.Please confirm if this is correct
Justice League Designation's:
01. Superman
02. Batman
03. Wonder Woman
04. Flash
05. Hal Jordon
06. Aquaman
07. Martian manhunter
08. Green Arrow
09. Hawkman
10. Hawkwoman
11. Zatara
12. Captain Atom
13. Black Canary
14. John Stewart
15. Captain Marvel
16. Red Tornado
17. Doctor Fate
18. Atom
19. Plastic Man
20. Icon
21. Red Arrow
22. Black Lightning
23. Guy Gardner
24. Blue Beetle
25. Zatanna
26. Rocket
Let's start with this:
Why would I confirm or deny this?
Why should I confirm or deny this?
I've already stated - more than once - that I wasn't going to reveal designations but let the revelations flow naturally from the series and comics (and the video game).
Why would I change my mind now when we still have plenty more episodes and issues (and the game) still to come?
The whole thing is a SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
I've browsed through the archives and didn't come across a question like this but apologize if I did miss something simliar to this question that has been previously answered.
Do gargoyles ever mate just for the sake of being intimate with their mate and receiving pleasure or do they usually just mate when it comes time for reproduction?
The former. (And did you check the "Gargoyle Biology" section of the ASK GREG archives? I find it hard to believe it wasn't answered there.)
When Tempest and Beast Boy were on the Team at the same time (so around the time of Legacy), did any of the characters joke about how similar their first names are and/or have a "Not you, the other Gar" type moment?
It's Gar and Garth. Not Gar and Gar. I'm not saying there was never any mis-speaking, but it's not like you can't hear the difference between the two words, so the kind of joke you're suggesting wouldn't play. And certainly, during missions they'd be using Tempest and Beast Boy anyway. But if there was a way to milk some humor for it, we'd try to find it.
Ha, Dingo's name is Harry "Monmouth", and he's taken in by John Oldcastle, who takes the name Falstaff. I just got that. Well played, sir.
Thanks.
1.Does superboys invulnerability apply to his hair and fingernails and if so how does he trim them? I was curious because you mentioned that they gave him a haircut to disquise him as tommy terror and i was curious as to how that happened. In the Golden Age it was established that superman used his heat vision to do these tasks but seeing as how Conner doesn't have heat vision it makes me even more curious.
2.Are there any chemicals that are harmless to humans but could mess with the body functions of the four flavors of aliens? Is this to broad of a question cause I feel like both of these are a bit supeerfluous.
1. They're not as invulnerable as the rest of him, but they're stronger than human hair.
1a. Heat vision isn't the be-all end-all in cutting implements.
2. I don't know. Maybe.
2a. You feel like both these questions are a bit superfluous but you posted them anyway? Why?
In the episode Before the Dawn, was the big bad Blue Beetle of the future played by Eric Lopez, or by someone else?
Eric.
Hey there Greg W hope your fall is going well. I have to say I have continually been impressed with how you handle the comic book universe(s). As I am sure you are Marvel has new shows in the works. All of which have the potential to be good. I am sure many fans are looking forward to them including myself. Which leads me to my question. Would you if you had the chance to work on something like Live Action "Cloak and Dagger" would you or would your current work with DC and Young Justice prevent you from doing so?
As I've stated OVER AND OVER again, I'm not too interested in hypotheticals. And here's a good example why. Your question contains too many variables for me to answer it. Here's just a FEW of them:
1. Are we specifically talking about "Cloak and Dagger"?
2. What are the schedules of the respective projects?
3. What would my role be on the live action show?
4. How much money is involved?
If what you're asking me is whether (in general) I'd like to work for Marvel and/or in live-action, the answer is yes to all of the above. But I can't answer your question in a vacuum. And PLEASE don't try to create a more detailed hypothetical scenario to generate an answer. For every variable you nail down, I could come up with twenty more.
You hinted before that Klarion has memory problams by saying that he know something (I'm don't remember what it was) but if he remembers or not is a different question.
1. Does he have memory problams?
2. If he does than is that because he is a lord of chaos?
3. Does his memory works in a different way than ours (like Starfire's in the new 52)? If so how is it different and how does it work?
4. If he doesn't have memory problams (and by this I mean that his memory works in a different way than us, humans) what did you mean by your comment?
1. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
2. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
3. I have no knowledge of Starfire's memory in the New 52, but as for Klarion - ASKED AND ANSWERED.
3a. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
4. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
As more and more teenage superheroes join The Team in Young Justice, would it be safe to say that the members of The Team treat each other more as if they were family to one another instead of just treating each other like mere fellow teammates?
I'm not sure what the "more and more" part has to do with that equation. "Family" is a metaphor in this situation anyway. So the answer is both.
You recently stated that only robin aqualad kid flash red arrow and rocket were the only public figures on the original team,so my question is,do batman and the justice league necessarily want to keep the others a secret?or is it just that the young heroes don't really advertise their existence?
Both.
I got into an argument with my boyfriend the other day that I'd like your opinion on: is the Joker really crazy? I say no, because he always says he's crazy and acknowledges that what he is doing is crazy. So if he knows that he is insane then he can't be, because people who are truly insane don't know they're insane; they think they're sane and everybody else is nuts. Like Two-Face, I think he's seriously off his rocker because he honestly believes he's administering justice by flipping a coin. The Young Justice version was a little different since he tried to kill all of them because their mission failed...but what's your personal take on the character?
I think he's insane, and I think you're statement that as long as someone admits he or she is crazy, then he or she can't be, is, frankly, a bit silly if you take it to its absolute extreme. So... I guess I agree with your boyfriend.
But I will say, the two of you argue about fun stuff.
Mr. Greg Weisman,
Today's posting is in regards to Batman's and Alfred's past prior to the events of Young Justice. Here are my questions below:
#1 - Obviously we know that Bruce Wayne uses the bat as an inspiration in his war against crime, but the way he discovers this inspiration is done differently in various media. In one example, the Christopher Nolan films, Bruce gained his inspiration from the time he fell in the well as a child and ended up in a cave filled with bats. In another example, the graphic novel "Batman: Earth One," Bruce discovers this inspiration when he sees a statue of a Japanese samurai wearing a bat-like mask. In comparison with other media, how did Bruce Wayne discover his inspiration (the bat) to become Batman on Earth-16?
#2 - I'm under the impression that shortly after Bruce Wayne started his career as Batman, he was probably initially regarded as vigilante, an urban myth, and other things by the people of Gotham City before he was accepted as a hero. Can you please confirm whether this is true or not on Earth-16? If it turns out to be true, then how many years did it take before he was acknowledged for his good deeds by the people of Gotham City?
#3 - Batman has a large rouges gallery on his list; and that's true in ANY parallel DC universe. On Earth-16, which particular villains from Batman's rouges gallery has always given him a considerable amount of trouble (in terms of challenging him to the peak of both his physical and mental limits at the same time) and why? I'm asking this particular question because if you think about, every villain in Batman's rouges gallery challenges his limits very differently (sometimes it's his physical limits being tested, other times it's his mental limits, and sometimes it's BOTH of them).
#4 - Before his parents were murdered, what did the young Bruce Wayne wanted to be when he became an adult? In other words, what kind of career did Bruce wanted to pursue before his life was tragically changed forever as a result of Joe Chill's actions?
#5 - Before being employed by the Wayne family and working for them as a butler, did Alfred had a previous job occupation? If so, can you please tell us what it was and what exactly did he do in his previous job?
Thanks for taking the time to read my questions,
CGYJ
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. That's way too subjective a question for me to answer.
4. He was eight-years-old. He might have wanted to be a pirate for all I know.
5. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
I hope this isn't taken as an insult...but I really appreciate how the women are designed in Young Justice so that they're not all "flawless" looking. The reason I can't get more of my girl friends into comic stuff is because they feel like they objectify women by making it all about their appearances and not about their strength as heroes. However, in Young Justice, the characters are still beautiful but in their own individual ways and not the cookie cutter fan boy fantasy way. Was that a conscious effort?
To the extent we've been successful at this, I'm going to say yes. But not just with the female characters. With the male characters too. And to be fair to most comics, I think the cookie cutter works both ways there too. Women aren't the ONLY characters being idealized.
Hi! This really isn't a question but more of a praise session. Thank you so much Mr. Weisman for your work with Young Justice. The show, like Gargoyles, has kept me at the edge of my seat every week and leaves me begging for more. Keep up the good work and best wishes.
See, you just fed my ego and assuaged my insecurities. Thanks.
Mr. Greg Weisman,
I understand that since Young Justice became a part of the DC Nation Block, you decided not to use a 20 second intro during Season Two, as it was normally done for the majority of the Season One episodes. If you had been able to use a 20 second intro for Young Justice: Invasion, how exactly would the sequence have gone in comparison to the 20 second intro that was used in Season One? In other words, what would the differences have been between the two openings?
Thanks,
CGYJ
ASKED AND ANSWERED.
I have some questions regarding the "Artemis" death timeline. It seems to have progress rather quickly.
She "dies" late in the night on the 19th of March, early in the morning of the 20th it's revealed that she's alive, and on the 21st Wally takes her mother to her "grave".
It just all seams really fast. I mean REALLY fast.
Now given that Artemis was taken under the wings of Oliver/Green Arrow and Bruce/Batman I can see a monument/grave marker being put up in her honor that quickly; but what dose Artemis' mother think happened to her?
I mean she's not dead so what proof was her mother given that she died other than the team and the league's word?
Was she shown a body that was a stand in for Artemis?
Or did she just take the word of the team and the league that her daughter was gone and didn't ask to see her?
It just seams odd that she wouldn't ask to see her daughter's body; though given how she "died" (in the line of duty) I don't see them going through a M.E. even if she really had been killed.
How are hero's that die in the line of duty taken care of anyway? Getting a death certificate issued without revealing that they were heroes?
I'll admit it all happened fast. But what makes you think Paula didn't see a body?
As for death certificates, I haven't actually given it much thought. But that doesn't seem too difficult a problem to surmount.
I've noticed in La'gaan's design, he has lots of markings all over his body. The ones on his arms and the two on his head are fins of a sort I'm guessing, right? But the ones on his shoulders , chest and legs, are those markings or tattoos? Also, is the middle one on his head hair?
His tattoos are all invisible except when he's using his powers. So I assume you're talking about his natural markings. He has no hair, though he has fins that look hair-like, I guess.
I'm really glad you included Tim Drake but so far it seems like he serves no purpose in the show...as I'm writing this half the season has passed and he's had maybe 10 lines and they've all been mission related. I mean, you gave his special relationship with the Super Cycle to Superboy, his friendship with Impulse to Blue Beatle, I don't see that brotherly relationship with Nightwing they had in the comics, he lets Batgirl take charge, and we haven't even seen him speak to Batman at all. At certain times in Before the Dawn it was so awkward that he didn't say a word. It left me wondering if you have to pay the voice actor $1000000 a word or something...Hopefully this has changed by the time you answer this :) Other than that this has been yet another awesome season of an awesome show and I hope there are going to be many more
Not everyone is a lead. Tim is a supporting character. That's just how it is. He's not the only one either. I don't truly agree with your assessment that he's had nothing to do, serves no purpose and has said only ten mission-related lines. I assume even you know you're exaggerating for effect. I think we have shown his relationship to Dick. I think we've hinted at other things as well, and will continue to do so.
His voice actor doesn't cost us anymore than any other voice actor - and I'm sure Cameron Bowen would agree with you that Robin doesn't get to speak enough - but he does cost money, so if he doesn't have much to say in an already crowded episode, we will reduce, say, one or two lines down to zero to give us some budgetary breathing room.
I suppose we could have simply not introduced him, but our timeline dictated that he'd be around by now. And we thought it would be more fun to have him around as a supporting character, with potential to become a lead in time, than to leave him out entirely.
I know Beast Boy is young, but does he really know what Megan does to people like Aqualad or the Kroletean? He seems to be rather innocent.......and not as likely to be called a psycopath as Megan
No, I don't think he knows.
Hi Mr. Weisman
When writing a series, especially a superhero series, there usually are a set of recurring villains that the hero(es) face off against.
My question is once you've introduced a villain for the first time, how do you decide when or if you'll bring a villain back for another episode/issue?
Is it random? Do you say to yourself "I haven't seen this character in a while so I'm bringing him/her back"?
Or
Is it more situational/theme-oriented? Do you say to yourself "This is the place my hero(es) are in right now and this is the message I want to convey"?
I'll use Batman as an example of what I mean by situational/theme-oriented. Let's say Batman has just lost a loved one, and since Batman is dealing with lost you use this as a perfect opportunity to introduce Mr. Freeze, a villain who is also dealing with the lost of a loved one. Mr. Freeze is thematically tied to the idea of isolation and lost; but you can't keep killing Batman's love ones just to bring Mr. Freeze back, so what do you do?
If you follow ANY of the above paths, I don't think you're listening very much to your characters. Generally, when things are working right, they tell you what happens next.
See, you track them all. Track what motivates them and what they would do next and look for the intersections.
Hi Mr. Weisman
I was re-watching Gargoyles and I was looking at how you give your characters' arcs: Goliath learning to trust humans again; the Manhattan clan expanding their philosophy of protecting the castle from the physical castle to the city itself.
I recently read an article by another writing about a type of character she called the mysterious stranger. This character is basically a character that doesn't change. I've read that characters like James Bond have been described as such a character. These type of characters sometimes change the lives of other characters in story but by the end of the story they are still the same character they were at the beginning.
A lot of superheroes are said to be these type of characters. One writer said that Batman shouldn't become happy, Bruce Banner shouldn't learn to control his anger, and the Hulk shouldn't become intelligent (though it has been done), or these characters lose what makes them who they are.
I wondering what are your thoughts on protagonist that don't change.
Can characters be kept the same after going through major events and still seem believable?
Or
Is character change necessary to make believable characters?
I don't believe in hard and fast rules. And I don't think you've asked an either/or question.
Can characters be kept the same after going through major events and still seem believable? It depends on the character and the event.
Is character change necessary to make believable characters? Depends on the character and the change.
If a character is changed by everything that happens to him or her, than he or she is less a character than a leaf in the wind. So unless THAT is the type of character you're trying to portray, you haven't succeeded much.
If a character is NEVER changed by anything that happens to him or her, than he or she is less a character than a block of wood. So unless THAT is the type of character you're trying to portray, you haven't succeeded much.
But VERY interesting characters can be created from leaves in the wind and/or blocks of wood too.
So, again - I'm not big on sweeping generalizations or hard and fast rules.
Some people who ask questions are so RUDE! They demand, they want to tell you how to answer, how to run your own blog, they whine...They claim to be fans but act with no respect. Greg, why/how do you put up with it?
Some people say to me: "You have the patience of a saint." But anyone who knows me, knows THAT'S not true. The ugly truth is probably closer to this: "He has the ego and insecurities of a petty dictator." Generally, ASK GREG helps feed that ego and assuage some of those insecurities. Most of the time, anyway.
I'm confused here. If the years on the timestamps as indicated on Young Justice issue #20 are correct, then it seems that the entirety of Season One took place during Year Zero. The present day events of the issue indicate that 2015 is Year Five. If that is true, would Season Two technically be Year Six in 2016? Also, If Young Justice: Legacy takes place one year before Season Two, would that be Year Five or Year Four?
As I've said before, all attempts to LOCK in a real world year are fruitless. If it pleases you or other fans to regard Team Year Zero as 2010, I can't stop you, and it should fit most (though not necessarily all) calculations.
But, yes, all of Season One of Young Justice takes place during Team Year Zero - except for the occasional flashback and the last couple minutes of "Auld Acquaintance, which take place during the early hours of Team Year One.
Season Two, i.e. Young Justice: Invasion (with the exception of the occasional flashback and the occasional flashforward to Bart's home era), all takes place during Team Year Six.
The action - though not all of the backstory - of Young Justice Legacy, all takes place during Team Year Five.
Why couldn't Miss Martain or Psimon sense each other in Beneath like they did in image
Ultimately, they did. But keep in mind in "Image" she was looking for him, and the very act of that registered. In "Beneath", neither were expecting - let alone searching - for each other.
Hi Greg, thank you for taking time from your free time to answer questions for the fans. As a kid I was a big fan of Gargoyles and I still think it's amazing. I also watched W.I.T.C.H. but my questions are for your show Young Justice which I am currently obsessed with.
1.How did Artemis know so much about the League of shadows since she obviously didn't know that her sister was working with them and that she was the assassin Cheshire.(mentioned in Infiltrator).
2. Were Sportsmaster or Paula ever involved with the shadows before Paula was sent to prison?
2a.Did Sportsmaster get Artemis involved with the shadows in any way?
2b. Was Sportsmaster involved with the shadows before Artemis joined the team?
I'm really sorry if these are spoiler requests
1. She was educated on the basics by her father.
2. Yes.
2a. Are you counting the company picnic?
2b. Yes.
dear greg, i have a few questions about YJ (which is an amazing show) concerning Artemis.
I read in another question that you answered, that before the official decision for who the mole was, you initially suggested Artemis.
1. How do you think the story would have changed if Artemis was the mole instead of Roy?
2.Would Artemis be a mole from free will or would she have been forced to, or would she think she had to because she believed that she belonged with her family even though she didn't want to? OR would she have been a clone?(By the way, I know that all this would have needed planning with you and Brandon but these questions are to what you would want to have happened if Artemis was the mole)
2a. Would Artemis become a villain at the end of season 1 or help the team and regret her mistakes?
sorry for the long questions and I hope I'm not wasting your time. Thank you!
Where did you read that? Not here. And it's not true.
1. I'm not interested in those kind of hypotheticals. (How many times can I say that.)
2. Again, the premise of your question is based on a fallacy.
2a. Ditto.
Some questions about Macbeth and Shakespeare...
1)Did Macbeth have a particular reason to choose the names Lennox and Macduff as his alias? I mean, why those and not, for example, Donalbain and Seyton?
2)You previously stated that Macbeth was mostly amused by the shakespearean version of his story. Is this true also regarding Shakespeare's portrayal of Gruoch?
3)A)What do you think is Macbeth's favourite shakespearean comedy?
3)B)And his favourite tragedy?
1. I seem to recall Michael, Brynne or Lydia having a clever reason for why Macbeth specifically chose those two, but I can no longer remember what it was.
2. Ultimately, it was so far removed from the truth, that all Macbeth could be was amused at the bad history (which he was already long-accustomed to) and marvel at the artistry and the truths revealed there even if they were not hi truths. As for Gruoch, he saw so little (really nothing) of his wife in the boy playing Lady Macbeth that he couldn't be too upset. It may have also helped that the name Gruoch was.never used in the play.
3a&b. I'll leave that for each fan to imagine.
what are the powers of the hawkwoman? she can talk to birds and give sonic screams?
Neither. She can fly and fight and has access to some advanced Thanagarian tech.
what the Scrab mean that Wonder Girl triggered biochemical changes in Blue Beetle's Body?
It's hormones. He finds her chemically attractive.
Why do you make Tim Drake so quiet? Do you interpret the character as being shy or is he just reserved and serious? He's my favorite DC character of all time by the way, thank you for including him; like actually him with his personality and not the "Timmy Todd" they had in New Batman Adventures (though that show was pretty awesome too). It's the only place I get to see the character now since the New 52 butchered him...
He's reserved and serious and maybe shy also.
Hi Greg,
Can i say you're quite unlucky because first you're show Spectacular Spiderman was awesome and critically acclaimed then it gets cancelled and left on a cliffhanger (which people got so upset and frustrated) and then young justice is on hiatus when it gets better and better. Why does bad things happen to things that are going good?
Dude, if I only knew...
Hi Mr. Weisman,
First I like to tell you that I'm a big fan of your work, especially Gargoyles, I sad that the series ended and that you didn't get chance to create the season 3 you envisioned; I hope that you get the opportunity to work with the series again someday and tell the rest of the stories you had in mind. Secondly, I like to thank you and the moderators in advance for taking the time out of your schedules to read my questions.
I read that when you worked on Spectacular Spider-Man you had a central theme for the series "The Education of Peter Parker." So I was wondering:
1. Did Gargoyles have a central theme? If so what was it?
2. Do you think that a series has to have a central theme?
3. Do you think that each episode within a series has to have its own theme? Can some episodes be non-theme oriented? (Ex: Can the heroes try to stop the villains from committing some terrible act without there being a deeper meaning to it.)
I hope you've picked up our three Gargoyles Trade Paperbacks, which contains at least a portion of our Season Three.
1. I'm not sure I had it boiled down quite as clearly, but it was probably something along the lines of: "Don't judge a book by it's cover."
2. No. Not every series.
3. No. Not every episode. But most benefit from one, even episodes that are mostly one big fight.
Okay, I really want to know what is going on here. I mean another hiatus?! This is the best animated show in years and they just keep putting up hiatuses? It's not okay, dude. What if they decide to cancel it? I wouldn't bear it.
You know, this show really makes me happy. It's the best DC animated show yet, seriously. You and your team do an amazing job and you give it that DC Comics spirit I love.
I'm a huge fan of the show, ever since I saw it for the first time. And you know, I always said that your show gave me the feeling that it could even bring Jason Todd. And it did, there's no way you can deny something we all saw.
I just, I don't know, if you only knew how mad I ma right now...They can't do it. This show is big. Bigger that Teen Titans, bigger than The Justice League or Justice League Unlimited. Almost bigger than Batman Beyond. They shouldn't do that.
I just, I just wanted to congratulate and thank you for the fact that you created the best animated series ever. Being a fan since I was little(I'm 15)l, and not seeing one good animated series made me mad, but your show has it all. And with all that I'm sure that we'll see in Invasion, well, it's just perfect.
Not to mention that your characters are amazing. I love Wally and the way he is portraied. And thank you for bringing Artemis as his love interest, I never liked Linda, anyway. And in Invasion, let me just tell you that Bart Allen was the best gift ever. He's one of my all time favorites, and I really love the way he acts. It's just perfect.
Well, I hope that the show will come back on Cartoon Network soon and that it will last for at least 5 seasons(it's an ordrer).
Thank you for all!
PS: Please don't reply this just with a boring "Thanks" or something,I'm curious to know what you are thinking about the hiatus.
I'm sorry, but I have no comment on the hiatus, beyond what I've already stated here:
Hi Mr.Weisman!
I just wanted to start off by saying that regardless of the sudden hiatus and some of the negative feedback the show got around the beginning of season 2, You are doing an excellent job on Young Justice! I can't even fathom the right words to explain how highly I think of this show, but basically it's the most intelligent, entertaining, and well thought out show I've seen, animated or not. As I'm constantly busy and stressed quite often, this show provides me a moment to submerse my mind into something I fully enjoy. I look forward to this show every week and I have to say I was literally heartbroken when I found out that "Before the Dawn" along with DC Nation entirely was postponed until January. I'm not sure if you've noticed but this fandom has your back! Since I'm not aware of the real reason for the abrupt hiatus, I haven't mouthed off to cartoon network or anything, but I'm doing everything in my power to support the show. I bought the episode on itunes, signed the petition (which is well past 10,000 signatures!), I watch both Sat. and Sun airings on both the East and West networks, and buy the comics whenever I can on comixology. And this I suppose leads me to my first question:
1) What can we as a fandom and individually do to support the show in the most respectful and effective way possible?
2 )I've been really interested in buying YJ merchandise like tee-shirts and iphone backgrounds, for a while. I've seen some around online, but seeing as I think they're fan made I haven't cared to purchase any of it as I don't think the profits would benefit the show. And I know purchase of the toys are encouraged, but as a 17 year old girl without younger siblings around, I have no use for them (and I've never seen any in stores regardless). Is there any talk of producing miscellaneous merchandise, sort of how Regular Show, Adventure Time, and other DC titles do through stores like Hot Topic? Seeing as Young Justice has quite a lot of older viewers, I think this would be a good idea.
Thanks for your time. I just really wanted to know the best ways I can support the show and hopefully do my part to help Young Justice get back on air and a season 3
1. I honestly don't know anymore. But there are some obvious things: WATCH IT. Even the reruns. BUY MERCHANDISE licensed from the series. Buy it on iTunes, I guess. Buy the DVDs. Sending respectful correspondence to the networks can't hurt, I wouldn't think. Buy Happy Meals (or the like) when they have a YJ promotion. Etc. Buy the video game when it comes out. Buy our companion comic book.
2. None that I've heard about.
Dear Greg,
First let me say that you and your team are awesome! YJ is one of my favorite shows ever!!!
I have three questions:
1.) Did you plan from the beginning that Artemis would take on her role as super-villain Tigress.
2.) Whose your favorite new character from this season.
3.) In episode "Before the Dawn" Shimmer melts some metal with her hands...what's this power called?
1. Well, I'm not sure we planned it literally from Day One, but we figured it out pretty early on.
2. I don't have one.
3. <shrug>. Transmutation, maybe?
I noticed Icon was removed from #21's cover. Did you do this or did someone else?
Me? No.
In Bloodlines was Bart's apparent interest in Blue Beetle foreshadowing?
Well, if you remove the word "apparent" from your question, then you don't even need to refer to it as foreshadowing. He was objectively interested in Blue Beetle - now you know why.
But I guess from a behind-the-scenes standpoint, it was laying pipe or 'foreshadowing'.
Hi Greg,
I love Young Justice very much, thank you for this great show.
Here is my question, in YJ comic book #5 and #6, the team have a camp and told the story of why they become young heroes. I appreciate these plot. But I found there is no story of how Roy became Speedy and when did he met GA and why did he became his partner. I'm really curious about it.
Hope this is not a spoiler question, somehow I don't think it would be.
Well, of course it is.
Did Ted die in that explosion at Kord industries?
Yes.
Quick question about The Light and The Reach; how long have they been partners?
Long enough.
Did Stephanie Brown really appeared in the YJ ep. Beneath the Depths?
Yes.
In Performance, did you know that in one of the what was supposed to be Dick Grayson in the flashbacks was actually Bruce in The Batman?
In fact, all the flashbacks of Robin were from The Batman.
Is Young Justice and The Batman in the same continuity.
1. What flashbacks are you talking about? The only one I can think of is the one in the Cave where Robin is giving a mission briefing, and that certainly was NOT Bruce, nor was it from The Batman.
2. I really don't think so.
3. No.
Why do Nightwing and Robin wear sunglasses, while Batgirl doesn't wear any?
Batgirl, like Batman, wears a cowl - not a small domino mask.
Mr. Greg Weisman,
I don't know if you sometimes surf around the internet during your free time, but I wanted to let you know that it's been crazy since DC Nation was pulled off of Cartoon network without warning.
Here are a at least two things that I know that have been happening:
A. A Petition to Bring DC Nation Back A.S.A.P. - Apparently, someone started an online petition sometime after the announcement that DC Nation was coming back in January 2013. It seems that that the massive negative response to this announcement is what prompted the petition in the first place. From what I understand, the petition is trying to go for at least 10,000 people to sign this petition online. I believe you can find on Young Justice Wiki and from what I've read around the internet, I think that the people who doing this petition find it extremely beneficial if you and your co-workers gave your signatures to this petition. The fans are angry, and that's understandable.... since the press release info for the latest Young Justice DVD DID SAY that Season Two would be all done by December.. I guess the loyal fans of the show just want to see everything run the way that they are originally supposed to be...
B. Theories going about on why DC Nation was removed - This was the most insane part of it. On Young Justice Wiki there was a blog that mentioned three theories about what happened. Of the three, the most ridiculous two that I've read are about the possibility that DC Comics lost its rights to Milestone-related Characters (like Static) and that the presence of Stephanie Brown on your show had something to do with DC Nation being temporarily removed from Cartoon Network. This appears to be ridiculous, and I'm sure you'll agree with me on this. Considering the genius of you and your co-workers into putting this parallel DC universe together and how you plan things WAY in advance, there is no way theories like these would be true.
Thanks for hearing me out. I just wanted to let you know what's been going on.
CGYJ
Uh... thanks for the update.
A. No comment.
B - Yes, theories about any particular characters - all already approved - being the reason why DC Nation (i.e. both YJ and Green Lantern) were pulled are ridiculous.
I was fairly amused, and a little happy, to see Stephanie Brown get a guest spot in the latest episode. Were you and the rest of the production team planning to introduce Steph for a while or was it a 'lets toss her name in to be nice' moment thing?
I won't ask if she'll become a regular as Spoiler or not, but I really hope she does get more time, Steph needs some love right now.
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Thanks Greg for the Amazing episode of Before the Dawn my favorite of the second season sadly because they take DCNation. I see it on itunes sorry if that affect the ratings I am so angry at CNN at this moment.thanks for all. my little brother was crying yesterday when I told him about Dc Nation being out of the programming.thanks again.
You're welcome.
I noticed that after Impulse explained to Blue Beetle about the future, he starts to say that this was the REAL reason he came back to the past, but then he quickly corrects himself and says that it was the MAIN reason he came back to the past. Based on Impulse's statement, does that seem to suggest on some level that Impulse is admitting that he may know that multiple factors/key events in history are what leads to the "Reach Apocalypse" as he so calls the event?
I'm not confirming or denying anything that hasn't already been established on the series, for example the fact that he ALSO went back in time to save Flash and cure Neutron.
In Satisfaction Oliver had his own bunker with a Zeta-tube. Does the Batcave have it's own Zeta-tube as well?
Yep.
Do you feel like each episode more or less features one character more than the others?
No. Some do this. But most have a mix.
In "Before the Dawn" how is Tim Drake able to see through his sunglasses when it's night-time?
Probably the same way I can see through my ski goggles in low light.
Very, very sorry for CN's abrupt stunt. Hopefully, they either had a good reason for doing this or they'll have the heart to give us back Young Justice before 2012 ends. Anyway, thanks to iTunes, I watched "Before the Dawn" and there were so many absolutely fantastic things in this episode. But there was one thing in particular that touched me and that's Bart's attitude towards Blue Beetle.
I mean, wow. Yes, it's pretty clear that in the future, Jaime is actually just another one of the Reach's victims. He would never do something so plain awful. But it would be very, very difficult for most people to be able to get past that. That little flashback to Bart's future suggested that he's always been enslaved, mistreated and threatened by Blue Beetle. And in cases like these, some heroes would try to pull the whole "the need of the many exceeds the need of one" shctick, but not Bart. He wants to help save Jaime AND the world.
He could have very easily awaited for the scientist to extract the Scarab and kill Jaime then done something about it. It seemed to me like letting him get killed now might help prevent everything that went wrong (or at least, what went wrong because of Blue Beetle), but he rushed in fully determined to save Jaime, actually upset that someone was trying to hurt Jaime. Actually concerned for Jaime.
Bart has gone past understanding that isn't Jaime's fault, but he's easily and very readily forgiven him and grew to care for him right away. And even though he's keeping some extremely heavy secrets from the Team, he's still trying to fix things the honest, heroic way- by fighting for the innocent.
And just, wow. Bart's been in what? Four episodes? And I already love him like it's nobody's business. There are many other characters in this show I adore (there's a special place in my heart reserved exclusively and permanently for the original six, for instance), but this is the quickest I've grown to love one of them. Hell, this is the quickest I've ever grown to love a character, with the arguable exception of Heath Ledger's The Joker, but that was more love in the sense that he was a stellar character. I love the Bart you guys have given us for being a stellar character AND a stellar human being overall.
Really, wonderful job! Hope to see more of this sort of dynamic between Impulse and Blue Beetle, as well as more of my other favorite relationships and characters. Keep up the epic work and here's to many more future seasons!
Thanks.
In Satisfaction, what was Captain Cold's bank robbery had to do with that episode?
Life goes on.
Greg,
By the time you answer this question, it may be a moot point, but I figured I would ask:
You've made your opinion clear on people watching "leaked" or subtitled episodes of YJ. How do you feel about people watching "Before the Dawn" on iTunes before it was broadcast?
Mixed.
Praise for "Before the Dawn"
Wow! What an awesome ep! This show just gets better and better! You just have to get a third season!
I was SO relieved and excited when I heard on the net that the ep was on iTunes. I downloaded it right away! And it was AMAZING to say the least.
Nice to see when a girl's deductions are right on the money! Well 85% right.
Don't know if the rest of the season will be released on iTunes in the coming weeks, but if we all do have to wait until January for the rest I think I can handle it now. ^_^. With all the hype that you and your amazing team had heaped up for this ep I was just desperate to see it and so was everyone else.
But in any case when it dose come back to air in January I will DVR it (don't know if that counts as a rating) and watch it on the CN West to help out with the ratings to keep them up just in case DRV recordings with an off TV don't count. Everyone should. It would be sad if CN says that Young Justice won't be renewed for a third season after it comes back due to low ratings because everyone downloaded it from iTunes and then didn't watch it air on DC Nation because they're mad at CN and have already seen it.
Hopefully the money that iTunes brings in from this will catch CN's attention and they'll see what a MaJOR mistake it was to pull DC Nation from the schedule until next year. They'll see just how many people wanted to see it; since no one was able to see it on TV the number of downloads should give a good picture of the number of fans out there (those with Internet access and the funds to pay; {which if they don't CN still has created an unfair situation} but at 2 dollars even I was able to buy it and I'm always broke! ^_~.)
Maybe this will give hope for a third season too? By us buying it off iTunes without seeing it on TV first should show just how much we want it to stick around.
Umm... Now a question:
(1) What dose "on mode" mean?
Is that like hijacked? And dose it have any relation to when someone from Bart's time says that they're feeling the mode?
Once again to you and your team:
Good work!
Now after that's been said back to watching it all over again!
Depends who's talking. To the Reach, it means that everything is functioning properly, but to the humans of Bart's era, if things were functioning well for the Reach, that was bad news for the humans. And so to them it was always better to crash the mode rather than feel it.
I was wondering if Batgirl was the leader of the rescue mission or if the mission had just played out in a way that she had to take more charge in it.
She was a squad leader with Robin and Bumblebee.
Mr. Greg Weisman,
So I found out on Young Justice Wiki that "Before the Dawn" was viewable on iTunes for people who use it. I guess whoever was able to watch it that way was able to download it on the internet for people who can't watch it. Good thing too. It was a crazy, action-packed episode! Here are my thoughts below (even though the topics of discussion are not in order).
A. Miss Martian, Aqualad, and Artemis - By the AllSpark, M'gann, what have you done?! Serious, I don't know exactly what she did and I don't know if Aqualad is catatonic or not! Plus, having Artemis just arrive to find out what Miss Martian did, I wonder is she'll really become a bad guy for real? I really do hope Aqualad will be okay in the episodes to come. As for Miss Martian, I think her actions will probably get her expelled from The Team for sure.
B. The Pieces Are Coming Together - A part of Bart's past shows that Blue Beetle was in turned to the dark side in 2056. So the reason he came back was simply to save Blue Beetle from becoming evil? Somehow, I think there's more to it than that. There may be other factors involved that lead to the apocalypse in 2056. But at least Bart formed a friendship with Blue Beetle to make sure nothing bad happens.
C. Stephanie Brown on Earth-16 - Yup, I should've known we would meet the next "member" of the Bat-Family. After all Earth-16 does its best to closely match pre-Flashpoint continuity. No other words need to said…
D. Godfrey and the Reach - I sensing a Reach-Apokoliptian collaboration on the horizon if something like this is going to happen. Beyond that, it makes me wonder….
E. Static on Earth-16 - He may not have used his powers yet, but I wonder what was the meaning of having him around to watch the other heroes get beaten around by Black Beetle? Hmmm… Maybe this moment is supposed to make him realize that he needs to become a hero later on… I don't know… I bet something special is being planned for him. Here's to hoping to see more of Static…
Thanks for hearing me out on my thoughts.
CGYJ
Not going to confirm or deny any of your assumptions.
Greetings, Mr. Weisman!
I'm a Gargoyles fan writing all the way from Puerto Rico.
Anyway, just dropping by to ask something:
1) Is it just me or is the neck in Derek/Talon's shirt (the one he wears after his mutation runs full cirle) very closely designed after the neck gauge in Xanatos' exoframe (the tubes and buttons David uses to remove the helmet)?
2) Is there any particular reason why Talon wears a brooch-like object around his shirt neck, again not dissimilar from the gauges and other machinery in the exoframe?
3) If so, what's its purpose: is it something like a marker, a badge of authority or something of the sort, something more practical, like a moneyclip or a transmitter, or just decoration, like Demona's tiara and jewelry?
1. I can't picture it, but I think it must be just you.
2. Again, I just don't recall. But I'm fairly certain that we weren't trying to make a conscious visual connection to Xanatos' armor.
3. I'm guessing decoration.
Why the decision to use the name "Black Beetle" for the Reach character based on Dawur from the comics? In the comics, "Black Beetle" was the name of a completely different character.
Yes, we know. But we felt for Earth-16, that this was the way to go to keep our universe clean, straight-forward and understandable.
1. Why were the Reach so interested in Beast Boy's powers? He is but a mere human with martian DNA after all. If they want to weaponize his abilities so much, why not just go to Mars and abduct EVERY SINGLE PERSON there? Mars is full of people with these abilities while Earth is full of people who "might" have a meta gene. Why not just test Martians?
2. DC is rumored to be having legal trouble about using the milestone comicbook characters. Is this true? Will it affect the portrayal of Icon, Rocket and Static on the show?
3. There is a trailer for the show going around featuring characters like Black Beetle, Static Shock, Deathstroke and others. How do you feel about trailers spoiling future episodes? Obviously a lot of trailers do this, but do you agree with the practice?
4. Why didn't the Earth-bound leaguers accompany the team on their high-priority mission to recover the abducted teammates? It seems like Aquaman, Captain Atom, Zatanna and Black Lightning would have been a huge help against the Reach. I can't come up with a reason as to why they sat out on this one.
5. Assuming the Big Bang Explosion has been completely written out of Earth-16 and Static has been christened with a new origin story, are you still hypothetically able to use characters such as Hothead, Gear and She-Bang? I'm not asking for spoilers here, just asking if you are able to use them.
1. Okay (a) for all you know they are testing Martians, but (b) you're entirely missing the point. What's interesting about the Earthling meta-gene is its flexibility. Most other species wod not adapt to Martian transfusion by gaining shape-shifting powers.
2. I don't know.
2a. No, as to Icon and Rocket. As for Static, Spoiler Request.
3. My first impulse is always to withhold. But I understand the commercial need to tease in order to help market the show, and with that in mind, Brandon and I cut most of the teaser trailers ourselves with Jho Reyes.
4. One reason: Nightwing.
5. What's done is done.
This is not a question but simply a statement. After the way cartoon network cancelled the new episodes of young justice, i wish there was someway you could move your show to a different channel. One that treats its shows better.
And what channel is that?
question about the clones; superboy wont age because he wasnt fully developed yet, right? will roy clone age? also, if roy could have a child, can superboy?
1. No. Superboy's lack of visible aging was caused by a combination of factors.
2. Yes. In fact, he already has.
3. One case doesn't justify or deny the other.
Why does the Reach call humans "meat"? Aren't they made of it too?
It's a pejorative term. Don't overthink it.
I understand that Cartoon Network pushed back Young Justice (and GLTAS) to January, possibly because of holiday reasons, I'm not really sure, but YJ was still released for purchase on itunes. Will the rest of the Invasion episodes be released weekly on itunes?
It seems it was not.
Mr. Weisman,
Well, we're on a cliffhanger with Kaldur possibly being a triple agent in "Darkest".
Quick YJ questions:
1. What is Aquaman's level of knowledge of sorcery? scale from 1-10, 10 being none at all. If my wife was a doctor I would tend to pick up some basic knowledge moreseo than someone who has no interest or clue about medicine.
2. What was Vandall Savage's participation in World War 2?
3. Did Vandall Savage keep the meteor that caused his immortality?
4. Is there a relationship/ connection to the meteor that caused Savage's immortality and the lazarus pit that allows Ra's Al Ghul his temporary spurts of longevity?
5. When did Vandall Savage first meet Ra's Al Ghul?
1. I dunno. Like you said. His wife is a big time sorcery teacher. He probably knows enough to have an intelligent conversation with her. Kinda like I know enough about Early Childhood Development to have a somewhat intelligent conversation about it with my wife. But I'm hardly an expert. So what need we a numerical scale, my friend?
2. Yes.
3. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
4. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
5. Way back when.
Dear Mr. Weisman,
First off let me begin by saying that I give you my complete and absolute condolences about what Cartoon Network has done to your beautiful series and by proxy to us your faithful and loyal fans.
I just want you to know that I'm going to stick by you and this series no matter how many times CN stabs me in the heart. I just hope that everyone else feels the same. I'd hate to see you lose viewers due to CN constantly jerking us all around. Some people just get so mad that no matter how much they love a show they just can't take the ill treatment of networks and refuse to watch after a while; anyway...
Now begins my rant of frustration that been building inside me like a volcano for the past 12+ hours that's now finally erupted due to Cartoon Network's latest announcement.
I know people have been saying how they feel all day (I've been reading their posts) but I just had to say I how I felt about it too.
OMG! I am SO confused, frustrated and distressed! I don't think I've been THIS mad since Kyle XY got this same type of treatment by its network and got canceled as a result. (And I'm STILL mad about that.)
With this last hiatus I wasn't surprised or that upset when it happened. YJ went on break at the beginning of summer so I wasn't expecting it back until the fall season rolled around anyway. That's natural.
And I was SO excited two weeks ago when the new eps started back! I knew that there had been enough time for the season to have been finished (or close to it) without there having to be another break till the end of the season so I was looking forward to 3 solid months of awesome new episodes.
Now I'm not home on Saturday mornings when YJ airs on the east coast so I don't see it until around noon from my DVR; I'm a central standard time fan. (I like it better that way on some level because I don't like commercials. {I'm the kind of person who will start watching a live show and pause it for fifteen minutes so I can watch it "live" and skip through all the commercials at the same time.} I can't stand the suspense for even that long because I love this show that much. It's given me my superhero and "S" shield fix since Smallville ended, well kinda ended. (We have the comic now ^_~.)
But I was home today due to being on vacation. So I was super excited to be able to see what was sure to be one of the biggest eps of the season "live" so to speak. I get up early, sink into my favorite chair, turn on the TV and what do I see? "Dragons: Riders of Berk"!
Now don't get me wrong - I adore that show too but I was REALLY confused. At first I thought that I had accidentally turned to the WEST station so I pressed the info button and checked channel guide to be sure but they both said "Young Justice: Invasion". Then I checked in my DRV and saw that Green Lantern: TAS was a D:RoB episode too! I didn't know what was going on. I've been on the net all day trying to find out what's been going on and to my horror have found out the worst thing possible:
It's been postponed to JANUARY 2013! It might as well be 2014. Why for the love of everything would they do that?
The gall of those people!
They have some NERVE to change the schedule less than 12 hours before the show airs in the dead of night when no one will notice and then delay it for ANOTHER three months!
After they PROMISED us new episodes for the month of October!
We've already waited for four months as it is! This is worse than the 6 month hiatus that was in the middle of season one that drove me crazy. This will be SEVEN months!
Did they think that giving us two eps would tide us over?
Did they plan this in some back room from the start?
They left us with a bigger cliffhanger than they did back in June! I mean this one is ten times worse. The synopsis for this episode said that in trying to rescue their missing teammates that Blue Beetle and Miss Martian were going to discover shocking secrets and devastating truths. I can only assume that at the least that maybe they would find out that Artemis is alive and that Kaldar hasn't gone to the dark side - maybe. I was TOTALLY looking forward to seeing that fallout. And was curious to see that if maybe my suspicious are correct in thinking that the guy in black/shadow that accompanied Sportsmaster in "Salvage" is a future version of Jamie.
It seems like a perfectly plausible hypothesis to me. I mean with Impulse in the mix (I absolutely LOVE him - I love his voice actor too; Jason Marsden is one of my favorites) we're dealing with time travel.
Once he arrived in 2015 or 2016, (I'm not exactly sure what year it currently is in their world since I was never sure what year it started in. Did "Independence Day" and "Fireworks" take place in July 2010 since the show premiered in November 2010 or July 2011 since the show officially started airing January 2011?) But anyway after Bart enters into their lives he takes a quick liking to Jamie. I mean one of the first individuals he asks about when he arrives is Blue Beetle.
"Beast Boy is two words, Blue Beetle is two words. Hey is he here?" - Impulse, "Bloodlines"
And once they do meet he's stuck to him like glue ever since. Like he's singling him out for some reason under the guise of friendship.
This season has so far focused a lot on Jamie too like the first season did with Conner. Conner got the big reveal that Lex is his Dad (and I sill wonder whether Superman knows about that or if anyone else outside of Conner, Lex and DoubleX (I know that is not how his name is spelt) know about Match). So will Jamie get the shock this season that he has the potential to become a future villain?
I'm not asking you to answer those questions, I know that's spoiler territory and I wouldn't want you to answer them anyway; I'm just thinking out loud. But it frustrates me that I'm going to have to wait a whole nother three months before I find out if I'm right or wrong.
I just don't understand it!
Young Justice is simply the BEST animated show that I have EVER seen, and I've seen A LOT. I LOVE animated series.
Before this the best that I'd ever seen was JL:Unlimited and Spectacular Spider-Man (which when YJ started I found out that the latter was also produced by you - so that made me excited for it from the start, even more than I already was){I'm also still upset that TSS-M didn't get a third season after it ended with such a great cliff hanger. I don't understand why it got cancelled in favor of "Ultimate Spider-Man". With the time that it took for that series to make it to air TSS-M should have completed it's third season anyway and if it had continued past that and ran side-by-side with US-M would that have been so bad? TSS-M was out first! Shouldn't it have come first in line and had priority over another series that was just a concept if there was only room for one Spider-Man? Couldn't US-M have waited its turn? Can't we all just get along?} However, as much as I love all those series Young Justice has blown both of them out of the water! I've never seen anything so well written or animated in my life!
It's FLAWLESS the animation never gets sloppy anywhere! Some animators take shortcuts where they think no one will notice but that's simply not the case with this series!
I just fail to understand why our Young Justice has been so ill treated! Do the suits just not see that this series is pure spun GOLD!?
I mean superhero's are money makes on their own and when they are done well, like Young Justice, they are usually milked for all the bank they can bring in and YJ has a HUGE following as far as I can see so I don't get it!
It really makes me nervous for the prospect for there being a third season. I want one SOOOOOOOOOO BAD! I won't be satisfied with two. I just hope that when season two comes to a close it won't end with a big cliffhanger in case CN shafts us all and doesn't renew YJ for a season three and with hopeful wishing beyond.
This series has such potential! You have a TON of young heroes to pull from - the freedom of an alternate Earth, what's not to love!?
I want to cry now! T_T.
And I know you have to be frustrated at the very least too. You sounded so excited when you posted the return of Young Justice with "Satisfaction." I'm sorry if this has put a rain cloud over your trip to the Shakespeare Festival. It's been said online that the creators were upset this morning too when they noticed that their shows weren't airing. I know its ruined my weekend and beyond for who knows how long...
I just don't understand. Why dose Ben 10 have everlasting life? (I'm not bashing Ben 10 - I enjoy that franchise too although not as much as I did at it's start. I like Rook, but I miss Gwen and Kevin.) And shows like Generator Rex (it only hand like six? eps left in that season before it got put in limbo, CN still hasn't given the word if it's been canceled or not) Code Lyoko (it only had five eps left before the SERIES FINALE when CN gave it the boot) and now Young Justice/DC Nation get treated so badly when they all have just as good/BETTER and more intriguing story lines and are all well written?
Dose CN now resent the three year contract they signed for a DC Nation block and is trying to wast and squander the time that's left?
I mean Disney has Marvel why wouldn't CN want DC?
I agree with the poster who said that Marvel and DC should form their own channels for their series. Their shows have always been mishandled on other networks. Legion of Superheroes comes to mind.
Should we start making and signing petitions to try to protect Young Justice before the Cartoon Network executives start getting any ideas about cancellation? We could beat them to the punch with a preemptive strike and show just how much we want the series to continue.
I mean they had the nerve to pull a sucker punch trick like this and then say and I quote:
"Fear not, DC NATION fans! Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice will return in January with new episodes, only on Cartoon Network!"
Like another three month wait after a four month break is no big deal.
And to replace the time slot with an hours worth or reruns? That has never made sense to me; when networks pull new eps in favor of reruns of another series. Dose it cost less to air reruns instead of a new show that's not doing well? And I highly doubt that "Young Justice" is doing badly.
Plus I watch "Dragons" on Wednesdays and save it in my DVR, I have no use for reruns.
I just REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hope that when (if) CN explains themselves that they make up for it just a little bit by telling us that you are going to get renewed for a third season. I mean what more do they need to give Young Justice a fair shake? Dose the show not get enough ratings? It seems like the show as a lot of viewers.
Do iTunes downloads and DVR recordings factor into ratings for those of us who can't watch it live? People have busy lives - we all can't sit down and watch out favorite shows when they air. When we do watch dose that still count? Do more of us need to buy the tie in comic? I have to admit that I didn't read any of the season season one comics, but I did purchase the first "Invasion" comic and it was totally worth my three dollars. I'm now hooked to it too. When I saw Brainiac that was just the finial nail in my coffin. That guy is just the ultimate villain in my eyes, i love to hate Lex, but Brainiac just doesn't die! He ALWAYS comes back! ^_^.
But seriously why?
I'm so feeling the MODE! This isn't CRASH! Its totally heavy on the DIS and there isn't any ASTER in sight! (face plants) T_T.
I give you my well wishes, absolute condolences, and hope like a blue lantern that as Nightwing said: "We'll laugh about this one day."
Your forever fan,
dailyplanetintern
I sympathize, truly. And your passion is not lost on me. But by now, January is only a few weeks away. And hopefully, you've been getting a monthly fix of YJ:I from our companion comic. So hang in there. We'll be back.
Hello Mr. Weisman.
I'm a big fan of the show and I was devastated to hear that "Before the Dawn" was delayed all the way to January. I have to say that I'm starting to question Cartoon Networks manegerial prowess.
Anyway to some questions:
1) Now that Superboy is close to Superman, and know his secret identity, has he ever meet or visited Ma and Pa Kent?
2) How long has Tim Drake been Robin?
3) During the time skip, has the Justice League issue another recruitment?
1. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
2. Tim became Robin at the beginning of Team Year Five.
3. I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but I think it's clear that they've added members, specifically Blue Beetle (Ted Kord, since deceased), Black Lightning, Green Lantern (Guy Gardner), Zatanna and Rocket. The first three were inducted together sometime during the time skip, the last two were inducted together shortly before the start of Season Two.
1) Devin Grayson, writer of some of the Nightwing comics, said she wrote Dick as bisexual. Is this the case for Young Justice?
2) Did Artemis and Jade attend public school when Sportsmaster was raising her?
3) Was Sportsmaster a particularly strict parent? Like, did he allow Jade and Artemis to date? If he didn't allow them to do certain things, did they still do them behind his back?
Thanks! I hope the hiatus is resolved in the near future.
1. This is news to me.
2. Mostly.
3a. On some issues, yes. On others, no.
3b. I don't think he cared, as long as it didn't interfere with his own plans.
3c. With Jade, often. With Artemis, occasionally.
I don't have a question, and you don't have to post this at any point, I just wanted to express my sympathy over the way Cartoon Network changed the Young Justice show times. It seems rather unprofessional of them to have done so and not told you ahead of time (I assume, because of the post about the 210 episode). I will watch the episodes when they return because you have a good story even with how long each installment takes to come out (through no fault of your own)
Thank you. All of us involved with making the series truly appreciates your patience and understanding.
First off sorry for what cartoon network did and now on to my question.
Since Beast Boy didn't turn back to his human form when the collar was put on him, is his simian-like form what he normally looks like now.
As we've seen with Miss Martian, unconsciousness does NOT cause reversion.
I've been rewatching Spectacular Spider-Man over the summer, as well as introducing it to some friends who loved it, and I noticed some interesting subtle things that I hadn't picked up on before.
Such as Adrian Toomes and Otto Octavius worked together as scientists and they each have tech that relies on some form of mental control interface. Otto's is obviously more advanced because it needs to be since it controls extra limbs, but they have the same basic control principle. So I assume they worked together on a project that required such an interface with the brain.
And Dr Curt Connors was doing the spider experiments, combining different traits from many spiders into one super spider, as possibly a stepping stone for his research into combining lizard traits with humans.
Were these intentional or am I seeing connections where none were intended?
That was all intentional. Among the villains, we didn't want them to all be generic bad guys, who would work together or feud, simply as the need arose. We wanted to show that there were complex histories, alliances, friendships, rivalries, etc. between them all.
In short, we had backstories in mind.
Dear Mr. Weisman,
I asked you questions a long time ago, but now I write to thank you.
Two weeks ago Young Justice came back! And my whole family was so happy (myself included). I could not believe my eyes when I watched the fight between Young Roy and Mercy. It was so amazing! I have never watched a fight scene that was so interesting before. Usually I get very bored during action parts, since it is the same thing over and over, but in this one, for the first time, I was so excited!
Oh my, Darkest was very sad. I can't help but pity Aqualad (He is my favorite character). I thought, it's so funny and sad, how that when Aqualad finally begins to gain the Light's trust, he is starting to lose his friend's.
I miss the first Young Justice very much, but it's hard to be unhappy when it has become this amazing series! Invasion is very good, I especially admire the writing. All the characters speak so well! Please, if possible, thank the voice actors and the writers (you too) for their work. They do a wonderful job.
The animators need a thanks too. The fight scene between Mercy and Young Roy was perfect!
Thank you once more for this show. It brings my family together, which doesn't happen very often in my house.
Rowan
P.S. Very sorry, but I do have one small question!
Where is Atlantis located in the ocean? (Sorry if this seems silly, but I am really curious about it).
In the Atlantic.
soo, this isn't so much a question as it is me saying sorry about the hiatus, as it seems cartoonnetwork is doing to your show what they did to generator rex. havent heard of that show b4, just blame CN. sorry again for the hiatus, it sucks.
It is what it is. Onward and upward.
Mr. Greg Weisman,
On this day of this posting (which is the day before my 25th birthday), I woke up early in the morning with the anticipation of watching the newest episode of Young Justice. I do not watch it on TV because I do not have cable. However, I usually watch it after it is posted on the internet; this is the only way I am able to watch the show due to the lack of having cable television, as I mentioned before.
Being that I live in California, the sad news hit me when I looked into the AskGreg website to see if people from the East Coast were asking questions about this week's episode (since they would normally watch it first). Apparently, Young Justice never aired (as indicated by people asking questions about what happened). Cartoon Network threw a bombshell at us by celebrating its 20th anniversary or something and showing completely different cartoons.
I have to say that this was pretty poor timing on Cartoon Network's part. However, I am in no way blaming you, since you'd probably have no idea what the heck just happened. After I found out what Cartoon Network did, naturally, I was extremely disappointed.
The first announcement by Cartoon Network implied that Young Justice: Invasion was been held off until November. At the time, I wasn't worried. I figured since I learned that episode 19 and 20 were the only ones that weren't ready to be aired, I thought in my own mind that perhaps DC Nation was eventually going to do something special and throw some kind of 90-minute or 2-hour season finale for Young Justice: Invasion to compensate for the weeks in which the show was supposed to air.
THEN, sometime after 3 pm, more unfortunate news came in which Cartoon Network made an announcement that DC Nation would resume on JANUARY 2013. While I feel that this was an injustice, I did my best to maintain my cool. I'd imagine, however, that fans of your show throughout the country are probably throwing fits or are crying to their parents (all depending on their ages).
I have waited three months of the summer for Young Justice: Invasion to come back and I was happy that it did. However, after only seeing TWO episodes and having forced to go through ANOTHER hiatus, I feel that we, the fans, should be given some kind of compensation. I REFUSE to wait out another three months, just when the show was about to get exciting and we were about to see some kind of resolution after the "Darkest" episode…
Thanks for hearing me out,
CGYJ
"Compensation"? Really?
And please do not "REFUSE to wait out another three months". That helps no one. We're coming back, that much I can guarantee. I think you'll like what you see when we do. So hold tight.
Meanwhile, I've convinced Cartoon Network to send a check for twelve cents to every fan of Young Justice: Invasion, who's home address was registered with the United Nations Cartoon Liberation Foundation. The Man from U.N.C.L.F. should be contacting you soon.
Another reason for me to get even more upset: There will be NO new shows until January 2013.... Cartoon Network has made the most heart-breaking screw-up ever!!!! Now we'll never find out what happens on the next episode of Young Justice!
Read this if you don't believe me: http://www.nickandmore.com/2012/10/13/dc-nation-has-been-replaced/
"Never" does not equate with "January". Please have patience. We're almost there.
I just wanted to thank you for Young Justice. During the first season, the characters grabbed my heart and wouldn't let go. And, though I was initially surprised at all the change in season 2, I'm so excited for how it is turning out. Every Saturday I wake up early (my mom says that you do in a half an hour what she couldn't throughout my whole life; make me wake up before noon on a weekend ;D )to watch it, and every weekend I love the show more and more. Dick Grayson and Wally West are my favorites, and I love their interactions (be they best bros or fighting.) I'm sorry that Cartoon Network cut Young Justice out - I'm boycotting them until they bring it back. Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know how much I love the show, and that I'm firmly against CN for taking it down. Keep on being awesome.
We'll try, thank you.
Hi, Greg
This really isn't a question. More just offering my condolences to you and the whole YJ team. It's obvious that you guys have put forth a lot of effort into creating an absolutely MAGNIFICENT show for people to enjoy...
And yet, for all your hard work and dedication, Cartoon Network decides to pull this kind of nonsense. It's shameful, really.
As of now, there hasn't been any official statement or any sort of explanation as to why the DC Nation block was removed for the foreseeable future. It seems to me that the respectful thing would have been to air previously aired episodes of both YJ and GL -- but to replace these shows with Dragon Riders (or whatever it's called) is just rude: it shows a complete lack of respect for those involved in the making of YJ and GL, as well as those who wake up early every Saturday/Sunday morning to watch. In my case, I was up at around THREE O'CLOCK. Seriously. That's how excited I was. I just couldn't sleep! And it was virtually the same last weekend and the weekend before that.
I really am sorry that CN shows you and others so much disrespect. They owe everyone an explanation and an apology -- especially to you and the whole YJ team.
Well, technically what's "owed" and what's "politic" are probably two different things. But thank you.
Hey. This isn't really a question so much as an apology.
I know that your ask box is probably getting flooded with angry asks about why the DC Nation block was suddenly pulled, leaving us Young Justice-less. I also know it's not your fault, and I'm sorry that this wonderful, gorgeous show that you guys have worked so hard on and that we love so much has been mysteriously pulled for the month of October.
I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate all that you and Brandon do, and that I love your show. Thank you so much. :)
You're very welcome.
Hiya, Greg. I just wanted to tell you that i'm a really big fan of Young Justice and I think what Cartoon Newtwork is doing is really unfair. They shouldn't just change the scheduel last minute like that when fans are waking up just to watch the show. Anyways, I really love and admire you. I hope things get straightened out soon.
Thank you.
Sorry about Cartoon Network pulling this on you. We're still supporting you guys so no worries. Just....try to stop breaking my heart every week.
What exactly is breaking your heart? The content of the show? Or the lack of content when the show doesn't air?
Hello, Greg.
I just wanted...to give my condolences. It's not fair, and I'm not sure if it's true that you found out about the cancellation from the fans of Young Justice, but if it is I am extremely sorry!
With love,
Someone who understands it's not your fault.
Thanks. (But... was someone suggesting it IS my fault?)
On young justice invasion episode 7 why did night wing keep that picture of him and Artemis all those years and when Artemis and wally kissed at the end night wing looked away does night wing love artemis
1. Why wouldn't he?
2. Not in the way you're implying.
Hey Greg! First, I'd like to say sorry about what CN did with DC Nation! So rude...! Anyway, my questions:
1. Is there any other network you guys can have air your shows (YJ and Green Lantern) or is it just Cartoon Network?
2. What the heck happened to Tommy Terror!? He went from a blonde, punk version of Superboy... To a snorlax with blonde hair and piercings. Did he take too much cobra venom? Or did he eat too many small children?
1. Well, there's BOOMERANG. In fact, reruns of YJ:I (specifically "Alienated" and "Salvage") will be airing this weekend and for the foreseeable future.
2. I like your second answer. But mainly, I think when we met him previously, he just wasn't done growing yet.
I was looking forward to seeing a new episode of Young Justice this week for the resolution coming out of last week's episode, and Cartoon Network has the nerve to pull off a last-minute stunt like this?! The reason I'm in a bad mood is because I just found out about this news on worldsfinestonline.com
Okay. And the reason you posted was...?
cartoon network better not cancel young justice,or we'll all be feeling the mode.
not crash cn,not crash
I'm sure we'll be back. Most likely in January.
So by your update on the status of the airing of "Before the Dawn" I'm guessing that you weren't informed of DC Nation being inexplicably cancelled either?
Not in advance, no.
Hey Greg,
The new episode of YJ did not show today...WHAT UP WITH THAT?
I was SOOO looking forward to seeing what happened after you guys blew up mount justice and kidnapped Beetle, Impulse, and Beast Boy. So tell me...what happened?
No comment. But I'm told we're back in January.
hello grieg i would like to ask you just a few questions
1.why did you chose "Spectacular Spider-Man" instead of "Amazing Spider-Man"?
2.it seems like you you building up to the Peter & Mary jane relationship if you don't mind may i please get your thoughts on that?
3.and the origanal con.jupiter suit was built by Tony Stark dose Stark and Earth's mightiest heroes have a place here and is this inline with Chris Yosts Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes? oh and by the way you and chris yost are big time geniuses thank you the both of you.
1. Actually, that was Marvel's decision. Our original plan was to call it Amazing, but Marvel told us to change it to Spectacular. The reasons for the change were above my paygrade. But I'm not sorry about it. I like the alliteration, and it gave us our great theme song.
2. No, you may not. At least not at this time.
3. We weren't in continuity with any other series, period. We had our own plans for how the rest of the Marvel Universe fit into our Spectacular corner, but since we weren't allowed to use any non-Spidey related characters, those ideas were largely moot. But if you check the archives you can get a taste of them.
At the end of "Performance," Jack Haly suspected two things:
A. He knew Dan Danger was actually Dick Grayson (for certain).
B. He suspects that Dick Grayson might have had something to do with saving the reputation of the circus (but not quite certain)
Judging by this, I'm wondering if Jack Haly somehow knows that Dick Grayson was Robin at that time? If he ever did, and considering the fact that Jack was the closest thing to a grandfather to Dick, how would Jack feel about the fact that Dick Grayson is a superhero?
I don't know why Jack would have any idea of Robin's involvement. Do you really think Agent Faraday was in the mood to share?
Mr. Greg Weisman,
I'm not sure if the comic will eventually answer this question or not, but I wanted to hear your opinion about it.
During the five-year gap, why did Superman chose to specifically call Superboy by the Kryptonian name, Kon-El?
The reason why I asked this particular question is because of this: In the New 52, Superboy's Kryptonian name is not one of honor in the House of El anymore as it was before the events of Flashpoint. In Superboy #6, Superboy had an encounter with Supergirl, and when Supergirl learned he was a clone, she attacked him and called him by his Kryptonian name, which she translates as "Abomination of the House of El." The reason such as translation given is explained Superboy #0, which told the story of a renegade Kryptonian clone named "Kon."
So, while I assume that Superboy's Kryptonian name might be something that honors that House of El on Earth-16, I want to hear your opinion on how Kryptonian naming works on Earth-16.
Thanks,
CGYJ
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
In Depths, Lagoon Boy said that it was his first time fighting alongside Artemis. But in the Young Justice: Legacy game, both of them are on the Team, are they not? I read that Bumblebee and Lagoon Boy are on the Team at the time of Legacy but are on another mission or something. In any case, if L'gaan joined the Team before Artemis and Wally quit, why didn't she go on any missions with him in that time?
It was a big team, and they only overlapped for a short time - and the luck of the draw had it that they never happened to be on the same squad. There's no story to it. It's just what happened.
1.)How old is Adam Strange?
2.)a-Is Felix Faust a normal human?
b-If so,how old is Felix Faust?
3.)How old was Ted Kord when he died?
Thank you so much for your time and keep doing your awesome work!
1. Adam Strange was 26 at the start of Season Two.
2a. No.
3. 32.
I've seen the novel The Mysteries of Udolpho pop up multiple times in the series (Young Justice), and I've scanned the Wikipedia page (I would read it, but Outlaws of the Marsh isn't something you flick through in an afternoon, and my to-read list is long enough already), and I can't see anything tying it to the plot outside of a girl with a bad father, which would be Artemis, I guess?
1) Is there reason or rhyme to this, or is it just you showing off your literary power level, as you're known to do (which we all love, by the way).
And another question on a similar idea:
2) Where's the Shakespeare, man? Your name on a show promises Shakespeare, and YJ remains bardless. Bring a little of him back from Oregon for the team, wont you?
1. It's kinda the original gothic novel.
2. Stuff has to fit, you know? If I just wedge it in artificially, how does that help anyone? And I find it hard to believe there have been NO Shakespeare references at all. That seems unlikely.
Mr. Greg Weisman,
If Starro-tech allows The Light to gain access to the memories of the people that are affected by it, then when it was used on the Justice League in Season One, were the secret identities of certain Justice League members compromised and does The Light now know who each of those Justice League members really are?!
Thanks,
CGYJ
Yeah, pretty much.
Do you have a complete list of all the things you have worked on? Also you have a great talent and I hope you keep doing what you do and that you enjoy your work :)
I think I do.
If Bruce Wayne started his crime-fighting career as Batman at age 21 (which is PRETTY young, considering a person of such an age would be just out of college or something), exactly how old was he when Joe Chill killed his parents and how many years did it take for him to learn his skills (ie. Martial arts, detective skills, etc.)?
Bruce's parents were killed the year he turned eight. Beyond that, you can do the math.
How was Cadmus able to make a clone of Superman (Superboy) but they didn't take any of his limbs like they did for the original Roy Harper?
They didn't need an entire limb - not for Superman or Roy.
If Superman landed in Kansas in 1978, his appearance appearing to be that of a one-year old at that time, and the fact that his birth date is not revealed, would it be safe to assume that he was placed in suspended animation during his rocket's journey from Krypton to Earth?
It's never safe to assume anything.
Why do you have to credit the creators of some characters (e.g. Miss Martian, Nightwing, Impulse, Batman) but not others (e.g. Superboy, Artemis, Kid Flash, Rocket, etc.)? What aspect of the legal rights require you to say that Bob Kane created Batman but not that Dwayne McDuffie and Mark Bright created Rocket?
I really don't know. Our scripts are submitted to DC legal department. They decide who gets creator credits. They tell us. We put those credits in. It's out of our control, else I'd credit everyone.
What are the stories of how you and the other writers came up with and developed the ideas for the Phoenix Gate, the Eye of Odin, and the Grimorum Arcanorum?
If you don't have time to post the full details right now, that's okay (I'm even expecting that to be the answer). But would you consider writing a ramble on it at some point? We have rambles and outlines for nearly every episode of the series, but no background on the creative process that went into designing these three talismans. I would love to hear about everything that went into them at some point.
You're taxing my now-limited memory, but I don't think there's that much to tell. And frankly, I DO think I've told it all before.
The Grimorum was part of the story development for the pilot, even the development of the original series, I suppose, since we knew there would be a spell cast upon the Gargoyles pretty much from Day One. We just ran with it from there. Tried to keep track of it and its spells, etc.
The Phoenix Gate was created as "Vows" was developed as a story. If you look here: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?rid=131 you can see how it came about. And again, we just ran with it from there.
The Eye of Odin was originally developed by the video game people. We then used a version of that as a maguffin in "The Edge" and as a magical talisman in "Eye of the Beholder" and "Eye of the Storm", etc. I've discussed all this before. Search the archives.
Hello yet again, Mr. Weisman. Today, I'd like to talk about Gargoyles, particularly David Xanatos.
In relation to Xanatos' desire for immortality, I've noticed that, on two seperate occasions, an older, wiser man managed to pierce David's figurative armour through fairly simple methods (the methods themselves being simple, rather than the effect, meaning, or characters being so).
First, Petros, David's father, succeeded in giving his son pause through a few well-chosen words and "a simple American penny". Then, in "The Price", Hudson is able to discern and point out Xanatos' fear of growing old and dying (here, he cracks Xanatos' cool demeanor, but doesn't quite break it), and by the end of the episode, he had managed to escape Xanatos alive, simultaneously posing a question that, like Petros with the penny, gave David pause, and, I think, something to ponder.
Now, my point is that both of the aforementioned characters were, as I said, older and wiser than Xanatos, which makes me think (perhaps incorrectly; you'd know better than I would) that one of Xanatos' flaws is his inability to truly appreciate the values of age and experience, which ties in to his desire to be immortal.
However much he denied it to Hudson, Xanatos IS terrified of growing old and dying. It's something unknowable, uncontrollable, to a point, unpredictable (who knows when and how they're going to die?), and, barring a means of becoming immortal, it's unavoidable. The value of age and experience, as well as the wisdom that comes from it, is something that he, quite simply, does NOT want to learn firsthand. In fact, he even brushes off Hudson's descriptions of the downside to immortality, remarking that death and old age have a price, one too steep for him to pay. It is this unwillingness to accept his own mortality that makes Xanatos vulnerable to the metaphorical defeats he received from Petros and Hudson. The fear of mortality he possesses makes him blind to the wisdom that only comes from the passage, and indeed, the ravages (of which Hudson is all too aware) of time.
1) Do you agree with my assessment of this aspect of Xanatos' personality?
2) Is it possible that as he grows older, Xanatos will learn to appreciate the wisdom that accompanies age?
Whether you agree with my perspective or not, thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my post, and have a good day, sir.
1. I do. Very much so.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
What did Artemis' acceptance letter into Gotham Academy say?
You know... you could freeze-frame the image on your television set as easily as I could.
1. So far, all members of the Justice League we've seen operate in the United States. Are any members of the Justice League or the Team active outside the United States?
Your premise is incorrect, but the answer to your question is yes.
Hello Greg!
I was wondering what's Mal Duncan role on the Team? Thanks for amazing series, it keeps getting better and better!
It's stated in "Happy New Year". STATED. OUT LOUD. Not to mention, SHOWN (DEMONSTRATED, CLEARLY REVEALED), as well.
Olga, I don't mean to pick on you per se, but FOLKS, please do not come here to ask questions that the show has ALREADY objectively answered. You're just clogging up the queue and slowing things down for everyone.
And apropos of nothing, I've also noticed that sometimes the questions asked seem only to be asked for the sake of having something to ask. Like people are stopping by the site and TRYING to come up with a question that no one else has asked - even if they have no real interest in the answer - just so they can participate in the... "fun". Even if NOBODY could possibly have any real interest in the answer. Please do not do this.
Hi, Mr. Weissman, I truly, truly love Young Justice as well as the rest of your work. But I had some questions about Young Justice.
1.) When I was watching "Depths" for the first time, the beat with Nightwing looking at the photograph (of himself and Artemis at School) nearly killed me. When Dick took the photograph in "Homefront" was that included in the episode with the intentional purpose of paying it off in that manner? Or was it just an extraneous element that you took advantage of when developing the storyline for season 2?
2.) Was Jason ever a serious contender for the new Robin in season 2? I ask because I recently saw the episode "Darkest" where a building is destroyed in a manner similar to "A Death in the Family". I loved what you guys did, and I don't mean to imply that "it would have been better if you'd done it this way." But I do think it would have added an interesting layer if Jason Todd had been an unintended casualty of that event. Assuming of course that the network would let you do something that extreme in the first place. So was that idea ever discussed?
1. I knew I wanted to pay it off.
2. No. By the time we got to that level of specifics, we had already decided (long ago actually) that Jason would already be dead and Tim would already be Robin by the start of Season Two.
One question.
You once answered a question asking, "If the Light knew that Black Manta had a son?", and you stated that they did although it was questionable if Klarion remembered or not.
I've noticed in another episode (Misplaced, I think) that Klarion leaves saying "See ya later armadillos" instead of "See ya later crocodile". So my question is, does Klarion have a bad memory? Or what exactly makes him forget?
Love YJ:I so far, I've really come to enjoy it. :)
It's not so much that he has a bad memory, but Klarion's mind is... chaotic.
Re: an earlier question: "I know this series is different considering that this is another Earth, but in the comics the scarab was against causing physical harm to living things, even almost getting Jamie killed sometimes."
I don't know what comics they've been reading, but this is 100% incorrect. The scarab in the comics was created to be a killing machine, and is only tempered to non-lethality by Jaime's influence.
For a question of my own:
In the tie-in comics, it is mentioned that Jaime had met Guy Gardner, Peacemaker and Captain Atom prior to joining the Team. His connections to Guy and Peacemaker are references to his original comics, so I was just wondering why you added Captain Atom to the list, rather than continuing the theme with another hero comics!Jaime encountered early in his career, like say Batman?
It has to do with the (Earth-16) relationship between Nathaniel and Ted. Plus they're both Charlton characters. Really, the guy I wasn't sure about including was Guy, because - unlike Cap and Peacemaker - he's NOT a Charlton character. But I got a good line of dialogue out of it, and it hooked up with the source comics, so...
Hey Greg! I think you adviced people that wanted to become writters to read great literature and the classics.
Beyond Shakespeare (who is a must read :) ) What kind of literature would you recomend for this purpose?
Homer, for sure.
Cervantes.
Austin.
Dickens.
Hardy.
Faulkner.
Even Hemingway.
The list of authors are probably endless. Personally, I'm a big fan of mysteries/detective stories, and my favorite author in that genre is Ross Macdonald, who I believe transcends the genre. I also like James M. Cain, Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Michael Connelly and Maj Sjöwall & Per Wahlöö, to name a few.
I'd scarf up myths and legends. Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse, Arthurian, etc., etc., etc. And I wouldn't just limit myself to Western Culture. Chow down on the stories of the far east, of the mid-east, of aboriginal peoples everywhere...
Read NEWSPAPERS.
History books. Biographies. Some are deadly dull, but others are fascinating.
Anyway, that should keep you busy for awhile.
SIDE TRIP
So yesterday, I took a brief - about four hours - side trip to an alternate (or parallel) universe. My counterpart in this universe, I assume, changed places with me, as I did not see him there. (And I also didn't see him here when I got back.) As far as I could tell, everything was EXACTLY the same in that universe as in this universe with one exception: the word for "pineapple" over there is "palm-apple". I brought back a 6 oz. can of "Dole's Palm-Apple Juice" as proof of my trip. I noticed no other differences, though of course in only four hours, I hardly had the time for a thorough investigation into every aspect of history, science, entertainment, current events, etc. But if it weren't for the pineapple/palm-apple thing, I'm not sure I would have even noticed the shift.
It makes me wonder if we're shifting all the time. But that the differences between universes are so subtle, we miss it.
Oh, and the juice tasted exactly the same too. And there's no difference visually either. A palm-apple there looks and tastes exactly like a pineapple here. It's just the name.
Weird, huh?
"Darkest" was some episode. I must say, Dick and Wally'a behaviour during the episode has split the fans' opinion of them into two, with the fans defending one and criticising the other. I must congratulate you for the nature of the argument. Both Wally and Dick had valid points and glaring flaws, which just serves to underline how human they are. In the end, I found it difficult to place the blame entirely to either one of them, especially since it's clear that the stress of keeping the secret is getting to both of them in a very bad way.
Bravo, Greg. I think whoever wrote the episode deserves a pat on the back.
Thanks. And that writer would be my brother Jon Weisman.
Did it amuse you that the main villain in season six of Dexter was named Travis Marshall?
It REALLY did! Or in any case, it freaked me out a little.
1) Did Dick and Rocket date? (Zatanna seemed to suggest this in issue #20.)
2) Why was everyone so surprised that they were kissing?
3) I thought M'Gann covering Beast Boy's eyes was cute. But I was confused by the expression of amusement on Batgirl's face. What's up with that?
4) What is wrong with Nightwing? Zatanna, Raquelle, even Barbara... They're all awesome! Anyone of them would be entirely worthy of a long term committment. (Maybe Barbara is smiling because she knows better than to become another notch in Dick's belt?)
5) Initially, Superboy and Miss Martian had some difficulty separating their personal and professional relationships. During the five year gap, do you imagine that Wally and Artemis were as successful at checking their relationship at the door as Connor and M'Gann?
1. Yes.
2. I assume you're talking about the Zatanna/Nightwing kiss, right? The reactions varied. Some were surprised, some were not. As to those that were surprised, you don't know WHAT surprised them, the kiss itself or the timing, placement and intensity of said kiss.
3. Read on.
4. Read on.
5. I'm sure there were bumps in the road. But they managed.
Mr. Greg Weisman,
The second season of Young Justice may either conclude or is close to reaching its conclusion by the time you respond to this, but I wanted to ask you this question.
Considering all the individual events that have been happening through out the second season and their seemingly apparent (and somewhat hinted) connection to that state of the world in 2056, would you say that the way that these events connect to Bart's future is almost like that of a spider's web, kind of like threads?
Thanks,
CGYJ
If you like.
Is Rocket pregnant?
The reason I ask is because I got the vibe that she was having a baby shower before I got any indication that she was having a "bridal shower" (which I, as a guy, know nothing about). I know she's engaged, but is she also pregnant?
I'm not sure where you got BABY shower out of that at all.
As for whether or not she's pregnant, c'mon: HOW COULD THAT BE ANYTHING BUT A SPOILER REQUEST?
I mean it's a perfect example.
Let's say hypothetically that she isn't, and I tell you that she isn't. Then the next time, if someone asks if another character is pregnant, and I refuse to answer, than I've just given away that that other character IS pregnant.
Having said all that, you might check out our companion comic, especially issue #20, for more clues.
Many people in the Yj fandom dislike Lagoon Bpy. While a majority of the dislike is due to the fact that he 'broke up Supermartian' (as untrue as that is) a lot of it is for his cocky-ness. Was this trait something you put into him because you believed he would be trying to outdo all of Aquaman's previous trainees (eg. Aqualad, Aquagirl, maybe Tempest)? Is his desire to be on alpha, take down Nightwing in a spar, be better than superboy, all a ploy because he is filling the shoes of great people?
In part.
1. This might be past tense by the time you get to it but: (Do you think it will be / Was it) difficult to give as much character development in Season 2 as you did in Season 1 since there is a much bigger cast?
2. What was the point of the charm allowing Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash to see Artemis's original self? I mean, I know it's a common thing to do in shows, but it seems particularly risky in this case (e.g. someone else could have been there, Aqualad might slip and call her blondie, Zantanna figuring it out, etc) and no reward, since they are all there and can see what she looks like with the charm and should have no need to see her original self.
3. Superboy mentioned that he isn't immortal, but doesn't age externally. Does that mean he is aging internally and will eventually have the problems therein, or just that he can be killed but will never die of old age if he isn't?
1. ASKED AND ANSWERED.
2. It is what it is.
3. Watch "Earthlings" again. He states things very clearly.
It's seems that many characters from the first season in Young Justice are becoming the things they didn't want to - ex. Artemis is posing as a villain, Robin is using people, M'gann is losing control. Was this planned (most likely, I'm assuming, with your and Brandon's in-depth writing) or just a coincidetial thing?
Most everything was planned in tremendous detail.
This is a question about the Gargoyles episode "Bushido."
In the episode, Taro had ninjas in his employs. Does this mean that ninja clans of feudal Japan survived to modern times in the Gargoyle universe (instead of being wiped out by Oda Nobunaga)? Or were they just martial artists in ninja costumes?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Hello again, Mr. Weisman.
I know you've previously stated that you don't play video games, but I was wondering: what's your opinion on video games as a story-telling medium?
I'm all for it.
It says on you wiki page that you came up with the plot for an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Powerless!, but didn't actually write the script itself. My question is how your version of the story would have differed from what we received, though I'm guessing Captain Atom wasn't an arrogant git to people without superpowers.
My story idea was based on an issue of Captain Atom that I wrote (with Cary Bates) back in the late 80s, where Cap lost his powers and went to Batman for some... career advice. Or that was the jumping off point, anyway. I did have Major Force in the premise I pitched.
Are there any plans at this time to do something for the 20th anniversary? Man asking that makes me feel old.
If we're talking about Gargoyles - than, yes.
I have a theory as to why M'gann changed her hairstyle between seasons. She based her appearance off of Gar's mother, and my guess is that she changed her hair after Gar's mom was killed so that she would look less like her so it wouldn't be a constant reminder to Gar that his mother is gone. Am I right?
I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't want to reduce it to one reason.
You said in a previous response that Beast Boy has to have seen and made physical contact with an animal in order to turn into it. So, can he not turn into a dinosaur? Or could he have gone to a museum or something and touched a dinosaur skeleton?
He can't do dinosaurs.
Does Stephanie Lemelin voice Tigress as well? Her voice sounds similar but deeper, just making sure.
She does.
First off, I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for Spectacular Spider-Man, which is, IMHO, the finest superhro show ever created. Now, for a few questions!
1. Did you have any influence over choosing the art style for the series? Because I absolutely loved it.
2. Do you have a favorite Spidey villan that DIDN'T appear in the show?
That's really all I have to say, other than thanks for working so hard to make such great shows. Looking forward to more Young Justice!
1. Vic Cook and I both agreed that Sean "Cheeks" Galloway was the guy for us. So did everyone else on the series.
2. I have many.
Has there ever been an super registration act like in marvel civil war that existed on Earth 16? If so does it still exist or will it exist later on in the future?
Greg responds...
There was something like that in the 50s during the Red Scare.
1.This what my typo was referring to and I was wondering if there was any specific details regarding said law that was passed during the fifties?
2. Such as the law's name and who passed the law?
3. How long did the law last or how long was the law enforced?
4. Who did the law effect did effect just superheroes or anyone with superpower?
5. When did Icicle Sr put himself on ice?
1. There is, but I'm not going into it here, as that would be a SPOILER REQUEST.
2. See above.
3. See above.
4. See above.
5. Assumes facts not in evidence.
1. On several occasions there have been cameo's and brief shots of characters that don't properly get introduced till later, some big ones being Icon, Rocket, and the Atom. Other times they make appearances but don't get any screen time afterward such as Blue Devil and Black Lightning. My question is, are all these cameo's created with an idea for them to play a bigger role and it just hasn't happened yet, or are they just for fun for fans that recognize them?
2. Were any of the new members of the team (post 5 year gap) established in their current identities during the first season (pre 5 year gap)?
3. If you had the ability to make the show without any censorship would you make it more mature regarding language, topics discussed, or level of violence? I'm thinking specifically of "Batman:Under the Red Hood" as an example
4. When the Justice League was being controlled by the Light and fighting the Team was the League able to fight at 100% or did being controlled limit the complete use of their abilities?
1. Those two options aren't mutually exclusive. But there is always a method to our madness, certainly.
2. I'm not sure I understand the question. You saw La'gaan, Gar, Barbara and Karen in Season One. Are you asking if they were already super-heroes back then? Barbara, Karen and Gar were not. As for La'gaan, it depends how you define the term. If you picked up our companion comic, you saw him in action. But he wasn't yet running around the surface world calling himself Lagoon Boy.
3. Nope. Maybe more on-screen nudity. (KIDDING. KIDDING. (mostly))
4. This was covered in the episode itself. Rewatch it.
You made Jason Todd cannon. *THAT* was just like- my favorite part of the entire series. But Nightwing's character development is a close second.
Nightwing- the same Nightwing who was so convinced that he couldn't be The Batman (and didn't *want* to be) - is now acting so much like his mentor I wanted to cry. He's acting exactly like he did in Failsafe, and that was a simulation (not that that makes what happened in that episode any less traumatic). He was already going through the trauma of actually making those decisions, but he was spared from having to live with the consequences of them. He doesn't have that luxury anymore. Whatever decisions he might have made or will make, he is going to have to live with the end result for the rest of his life. Did you have his whole 'That's not me' line in mind when you guys made this episode?
On a side note, I found it insulting that Nightwing and Aqualad blew up the Cave. I mean, I understand Nightwing's reasoning, but that was NOT his decision (or Aqualad's) to make. That wasn't just a place. That was Super Boy's, Beast Boy's, and M'Gann's home. Seriously, being the leader does not give him the right to make these kind of choices without consulting his team. Of course, the same could be said to faking Artemis's death, but I'm not going to get into that. I still love Nightwing, but I want to slap him for being suck a thoughtless jerk. I feel so conflicted. And I love you for that.
I can't wait to watch more YJ! episodes in the future, and I hope you guys get renewed for a third season. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
1. Yep.
When I was young i watched Gargoyles. My reaction? Meh. Fast forward, year 2009. TvTropes recomended The Spectacular Spider-Man as best animated Spidey show. I hate Spider-Man, but hey, let's give a try. My reaction? AWESOME!!! Hm, lets check other stuff this Weisman guy did. And i rewatched Gargoyles and W.I.T.C.H. My reaction? THIS WEISMAN GUY IS AWESOME!!! He's funny, creative and his villains are amazing. Hm, he's gonna produce Young Justice. Let's check it when it comes out. My reaction? GREG WEISMAN IS OFFICIALLY DEITY IN MY EYES!!! So thank you, Mr. Weisman for giving human kind such awesome cartoons! And now some questions:
1) If you have a billion dollar budget what movie or show would you create? (Shakespeare excluded. We know you would do Kennet Branagh style, 4 hours long, Hamlet)
2) Did you ever met Alan Moore or Neil Gaiman or Grant Morrison?
3) Did you ever considered writing again comics? P.S. Loved Captain Atom both in YJ and comics
4) Whom do you preffer: DC or Marvel? As world, not as a employer
5) Ever been in Europe?
Also, I'm kinda worried for YJ. It seems TV network can't endure your awesomeness, so they ruin 3rd seasons for your shows. That, and Teen Titans are back and new Batman show is in production. Of course, i could be paranoid. No matter what, your work will be always epic! Once again, thank you Mr. Weisman for your awesome work!
P.S. Steve Blum as Green Goblin and Josh Keaton as Spider-Man? BEST. CHOICES. EVER.
1. I don't know. Too many options. Too hypothetical.
2. I met Alan Moore once VERY briefly, in 1985 in San Diego. I've never met Gaiman or Morrison.
3. I'd love to write more comics. No one's asked.
4. ASKED AND ANSWERED. I have no preference. I grew up on both, love both and initially - when I was a kid - didn't even realize there were two different companies.
5. Yes.
I'm big fan of your characters drawing pics and I want to know how to draw those characters to be a great cartoonist drawer and something else like you and others as well.
I can't draw AT ALL. So for artistic advice, I'd recommend asking one of the artists.
Hello, Greg :) This isn't a question, I simply wanted to say how great Young Justice is and congrats!
I've enjoyed Young Justice ever since 'Independence Day'. I must be honest though, seeing the characters grown up and distant from eachother saddens me. It's as if they've forgotten the strong bonds they formed as kids, Wally and Dick especially. I miss Season 1 and I wish we had a little more time with the characters young and together before things started to change. I'm not a big fan for change because when you've watched something from the very start or for a very long time, it's hard to see everything change and different before your eyes. I'm mostly refering to the relationships in the show. Wally and Dick had the greastest friendship and I believe they still do. True friends have fights and they work it out in the very end. Though I feel Wally has been too harsh on Dick. Dick is trying his best, he knows of the mistakes he's made, he has no one to help him. I mean, Wally is one of the very few people who knows of Dick's identity and pass. Wally was really the only person Dick felt safe talking to, and Wally putting all this blame on Dick and yelling at him doesn't help. All I ask is that you don't let their friendship die. Friends like that come only once in a life time. To tell you the truth, one of the reasons I enjoyed watching Young Justice was the moments Dick and Wally had. It showed me what true friends looked like and it was Wally and Dick. I miss those moments, don't let their friendship die. Because in our Darkest hours all we need is our best friend. It's when we need them the most.
I don't wish for a response to this, I know you're a busy guy. This isn't criticism or a challenge, just feelings and thoughts from a fellow fan. All I ask is for you to read this. Thank you :)
We have no intention of letting the friendship between Wally and Dick die. Friends argue sometimes, especially when the stakes are so high, but either character would give his life for his friend, and that hasn't and will never change. (Which I guess is a SPOILER.)
I just saw the young justice episode darkest and i must say it was fantastic, the plot was genius, the wally and dick argument was heartbreaking and the impulse and blue beetle bonding was really sweet.
I have a question, bart must have known what happened in the past to have tried going back in the first place to try and fix the future so he saved the flashes life and i guess he thought he fixed the future, because he seemed surprised and upset when mount justice exploded, did he expect that to happen or was he genuinely shocked mount justice was still obliterated?
I think he hoped he'd be able to stop it. So maybe "shocked" isn't the right word, so much as "horrified".
Also, keep in mind, he does NOT have an encyclopedic knowledge of what took place in his past. In his post-apocalyptic timeline, many of the records were lost - as were many of the people who might have been able to give him the 411. Of course, he knew Mount Justice was destroyed. But not how - and maybe not even exactly when.
Hello, Greg! I've noticed you answer a lot of "would you ever make series X with character Y" with "IT IS NOT UP TO ME". So, I was wondering, have you ever been in a situation where those sort of decisions were up to you? If not, do you ever hope to be in a position where you have full reign over those decisions?
Thanks again for the awesome Young Justice! I wouldn't be this invested if the writing weren't this spectacular!
No, not really. Maybe the closest I've ever come is making creative decisions on the Gargoyles comic book for SLG. I was pretty much given free reign there. But keep in mind the decision to make and then to stop making the comic was still completely out of my hands.
As for whether or not I'd hope to be in that position, of course. But I doubt it will ever happen. EVER.
For the cutscenes in the Young Justice: Legacy game, will there be animation just like of the show (to give the cutscenes the exact same look as the cartoon)?
No, as I understand it, the animation for the cut scenes will match the game, i.e. it'll be CGI.
Hey Greg
I was wondering, will the show ever go for 1 hour like the justice league series did?, is it possible? 22mins to me is not enough of young justice.
I AGREE!!!
(But I wouldn't hold my breath.)
I love the young justice I feel season two is even better than season one even though I don't see some of my favorite characters as much as I would like. This show dose not just jump to a new story every episode or even every season I like how every episode ties into what happens later even if it dose not tie in for a while. So heres my questions...
1. In season two there is a bunch of new characters and while last season with the main six it could have enough development for each character but now with so many new people are they going to have the same chance or are some just going to be more of a minor main character?
2. Mal joined the team in a way, how did he get to be part of it? I love his character by the way he is sort of a gentle giant.
3. Is batgirl a protege of batman? I never really understood because beetle mentions how robin has batman, nightwing and batgirl as mentors, does batgirl have more of a relationship with batman like nightwing has or is it more like robins realationship?
1. The truth is that the combination of more characters AND fewer episodes means not everyone is going to be... created equal, so to speak. But we'll do our best to characterize everyone and give them screen time. But, yes, some members of the Team in Season Two are supporting characters and not leads.
2. SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
3. Nightwing, Batgirl and Robin are all protegees of Batman. But Robin also has Nightwing and Batgirl as mentors in addition to Batman. And for that matter Batgirl had Dick.
Hey Greg! I have some questions regarding Superboy (both S1 and S2)
1. If Superboy would have stayed in his pod for a longer time or worn the Solar Suit for enough time, would he have ever developed the rest of his powers?
2. Would Superboy have survived the bomb's explosion in 'Darkest' like Superman with little to no injury?
3. In terms of strength (considering that they're both the powerhouses of the team); is Cassie physically stronger than Superboy, or is he?
1. Nope.
2. I doubt it.
3. He's stronger.
Hello Greg, I'm a huge fan! First off i'd like to say congrats on such a thrill-packed first episode after the hiatus! One thing I noticed is the beautiful animation! It might have been just because I haven't seen a new episode in such a long time, but did the animation change? Or did you add anything new to the animation?
Nope. Not really. Some shows come out better than others, but in general we've been pretty lucky.
First- Invasion is great. It's so much better than I thought. I didn't think I'd like it better than season 1- but I do. A lot more (which is hard to say because season 1- the show in general- is incredible). I love the details you guys put it in, and I'm loving the characters a lot more than I thought I would.
Second- Are you guys working on Season 3 yet or are you waiting for Cartoon Network for a renewal?
We have a LOT of ideas for Season Three. Beyond that I can't comment.
How do you guys do Dr. Fate's voice? Do you play his voice and the person he is possessing at the same time or is it some sort of echo effect?
We record Kevin Michael Richardson as Nabu and then whomever plays the host (Jason Spisak/Kid Flash, Khary Payton/Aqualad, Lacey Chabert/Zatanna or Nolan North/Zatara) saying the same lines. Then in post-production, we double-track them, so you here two voices. It's a trick I learned on Gargoyles while doing Anubis & Jackal and Anubis & the Emir. I've always been fond of the effect.
Dear Greg,
Saw Darkest today, and DAMN. You said it was their darkest hour and you weren't kidding. I mean my reaction to Mount Justice going up was "0_0 ..." And that's a good thing. Gotta say I kinda liked seeing the Terror Twins again, and Icicle still holding a torch for Tuppence even though they never met before now. And Tigress, nice work. Kudos on working her comic book roots into it. And I'm kind of surprised the guys are unsure of Kaldur's allegiance. Granted, I'm an optimist and hope he gets a chance to redeem himself before all is said and done.
Again, excellent work and keep it up! You are my soul source of enjoyment from DC characters right now!
Um... thanks. But have you tried Green Lantern Animated? I'm really enjoying it myself.
Are Queen Bee's powers natural (in that she was born with them) or was she gain them through artificial means (messing with her DNA)?
SPOILER REQUEST. NO COMMENT.
Hey Greg! LOVING the crazy that is season2!
P.S. I went to Stanford too! I stayed in the Okada house. It was painted like the Joker from Dark knight :)
(I'm still in school, so 3/5 of my question will be related to that horrible, but amazing place!)
1) So Artemis is undercover, and died in March. But they were both still attending school (Can we say Stanford yet?) in February. So has Wally taken time off school while this is going on? or is he still sticking it out?
2) I feel like Artemis would get a scholarship since she comes from a poor (ish) family and her parent(s) have been in and out of jail. Would this been correct?
3) If not, how ARE they paying? Are they just 80+ G in debt? or did Batman given them uni. money for saving the world? That'd be sick.
4) Clark told Conner his real name, and seemed pretty open about it. Since Conners only 'real' family is basically CK, and the original 6, do they now know too?
5) Now that Clark & co. have been MIA for a couple weeks, does Conner hang out with Lois? Now that they are both temporarily single, does he just come over Sundays nights for Game of Thrones? 'Happy Birthday' text of his birthday kinda stuff?
THANKS! You and everyone else are awesome!
1. I think for the time being he's sticking it out, as the routine helps him to stay sane.
2. Probably, yes.
3. It's a private matter, don't you think?
4. One doesn't necessarily follow on the other, so this feels like a SPOILER REQUEST.
5. Anything regarding Lois on Earth-16 is also a SPOILER REQUEST.
Okay who is moderating these? Perfectly normal questions I've asked get deleted and then I see ridiculous grammatical monstrosities approved...?
Incorrect grammar is not (currently) a criteria for deletion. Plenty of other things are. And you can and should (a) review the rules to see if one of your questions broke one or more of them, or if that provides no clarity, you can (b) go to the Station 8 Comment Room and ASK one of the moderators why your questions were deleted. Be polite, please.
[FYI, if incorrect grammar WAS a criteria for deletion, I could kick this question too, which has multiple grammatical errors in it.]
In "Darkest", Impulse lured Blue Beetle into the desert, away from civilians, knowing that Aqualad's attack was coming. This leads to ask: in Impulse's timeline, did Aqualad's team attack Jaime at his home in front of his family, thus exposing his identity as Blue Beetle?
You're assuming facts not in evidence.
Why are Bart's eyes green instead of yellow?
Are they?
At any rate, why would they be yellow instead of green?
Mr. Greg Weisman,
In regards to Bart Allen's placement in Earth-16's timeline, was the reason you had him living only 40 years in the future instead of the 30th century (like in the comics) was because there are difficulties in imagining what kind of architecture and technology (among other things) would possibly exist in the distant future, or are there other reasons?
Thanks,
CGYJ
He's the grandson of Barry Allen. What would he be doing a thousand years in the future?
Why does Wally where a jacket throughout most of Season 2? Is he an inspiring crime scene investigator?
Or maybe it's winter.
WHY AM I NOT IN THE SHOW MORE? I AM OBVIOUSLY THE BEST LIGHT CHARACTER!!!!!
Who says you're not in the show more? We both know you're capable of invisibility and stealth. Maybe you've been in every episode.
Hello,
Thank you for Young Justice and the shows that came before it. I'm eager to see what happens next.
I have a couple of questions about the Belle Reve inhibitor collars that made a reappearance this week in Darkest.
1. How finely tuned do the collars need to be? Would a collar prepped for someone with with super-strength work right away on someone similar powers from a completely different source? (e.g. Blockbuster & Superman)
2. Would the collars as they are be able to nullify powers involving magic, such as Captain Marvel or Zatara/Zatanna?
1. Not necessarily. But maybe.
2. They could probably nullify a result of magic, i.e. Captain Marvel's strength. But unless they removed Zatanna's ability to speak, it might be tougher to stop her from, say, creating a mighty wind (or a ythgim dniw).
I would just like to comment on how well developed the storyline and characters are becoming in Young Justice. While a great many of the changes I did not see coming, that was the beauty of watching them pan out. I love the development on Miss Martian, Nightwing, Kid Flash, Aqualad etc. I look forward to having a great many of my questions answered, in particular in regards to Kaldur and Kid Flash in the comics/episodes to come.
If there's anything I really miss, it would be the friendship Wally and Richard had in Season 1. However, it's interesting to see that it still withstands, even with all the pressure of Season 2. Their friendship in the older comics, both Flash, Nightwing, Teen Titans etc has made them a favorite of mine and I love the little hints to that friendship that both the comic and the TV show has made. I watch with anticipation each week to see where the plotlines take us. Great job overall to your team Greg!
Thanks a lot.
I just wanted to say I love all th puns on your show! I especially love the Powerpuff Girls pun in "Darkest" or rather, the Rowdeyruff Boy reference xD
Not that I don't love the Powerpuff Girls and the Rowdyruff Boys, but you do realize that that nursery rhyme WAY pre-dates that show, right?
Also, it's not a pun.
Greg, I love the show. After the hiatus to come back to this sudden explosion of drama and hunger for the next episode, I have to ask Do you truly hate us? You know making us wait a whole week before the next episode? I love what you've done, Young Justice is one of my favourite shows.
So if we come back from hiatus with love-inspiring and dramatic episodes, that means I hate you?
I guess that means when we stay on hiatus and/or come back with hate-inspiring and insipid episodes, it must mean I love you.
Gee, now I'm going to have to rethink EVERYTHING!
Tommy Terror seems to have gotten a LOT bigger in the five years since we've seen them. How did he get so big? Natural progression of his powers or did he get a little chemical assistance?
Phil Bourassa's decision, so we'll figure out the rest later.
Why did Artemis have to become Tigris? If Wally is so worried about her why couldn't Artemis go into hiding?
How would that have been helpful?
from where Captain Marvel got his powers?
Depends what you mean by "from where".
what happened to the real parents of Billy Batson?
They're dead.
Hello Mr. Weisman. I really liked Darkest. It had a great plotline and got me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode. Anyway, I had a few questions about it.
1. How much control does the Scarab have over Blue Beetle (as shown near the ending)
2. Are the inhibitor collars used to capture the Team the same used in Belle Reve?
3. Did Artemis know about the passage she used to enter the Cave and put the collar on Wolf from when she and Dick used it in Homefront?
4. Why does the Light show their actual faces as opposed to the blurry lighted ones we saw in season 1? ( I had a hunch, but upon further inspection, it turned out to be wrong)
Anyway, I really love Young Justice, and you guys are doing a great job on season 2. Hope things turn out better for the Team in the next episodes. Thanks for answering my questions.
1. What you see is what you get.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. Not much point in being secretive among those who know the secret.
"Darkest" was such an intense episode. I loved it~
As Tigress, Artemis sounded much more deeper than usual. Was this all Stephanie Lemelin's acting skills or was there some editing done to make her sound that way?
Both her acting skills, and we pitched her down ever so slightly.
Hello Mr. Greg Weisman,
What an episode "Darkest" has been; I hope the next episode will be as equally impressive! No questions for you today. I'm giving my thoughts this time around. Feel free to respond to my thoughts on each topic if you want to.
My Thoughts on these topics in "Darkest":
A. The Destruction of Mount Justice - So THAT's how it happened! I have to say: up until this episode, I actually thought the U.S. military would have something to do with it, considering how Godfrey is spreading his anti-hero propaganda throughout the second season. Well, I guess I was wrong after all. Also, considering Mount Justice was not repaired prior to 2056, I guessing it's beyond anyone's ability to do so…
B. Distrust Among Our Heroes - Considering what Aqualad and Artemis (disguised as Tigress) were technically "forced" to destroy Mount Justice, I can understand why Wally is on edge about Kaldur being a potential TRIPLE agent and why he's worried about Artemis' well-being. My personal fear is that this could lead to a chain of events in which Nightwing and Wally will lose everyone's trust on the Team and that loss of trust will spread among the other members (thus no more teamwork or cooperation). I guess we'll have to wait and see.
C. About Impulse - For someone who came from 40 years in the future, you'd think that Impulse might have gained access to some kind of information or record about missions that the Team undergoes and find out about Aqualad's and Artemis' undercover assignment. During Impulse's brief fight with Aqualad, I'm surprised that Impulse didn't give any indirect hints to Aqualad at all… Hmmm, I guess that mean Impulse doesn't really know EVERYHING about the state of his future and how it came to be in the first place.
D. It's Time to Reveal the Partner's identity at this point in the show? - I don't know… I'm DEFINITELY sensing some kind of a mislead approaching. After all, it happened in "Revelation," with the Injustice League and The Light. I'm also sensing this is some kind of a pattern that's going on in the series.
E. The Secret History Between Aqualad and The Terror Twins - SO… somehow the Twins escaped Belle Reve… and Aqualad was trying put them back there two years ago (sometime in Year Three: 2013-2014)? Based on the Terror Twins' conversation, it seems to imply that Aqualad tried to do this himself. That sounds impossible and I'd wager Aqualad probably had help in handling that problem.
Thanks for taking the time to reading my thoughts. Again, feel free to response to each one if you want to.

A. Pretty much.
B. Guess so.
C. Not everything, no.
D. We at least TRY to avoid patterns.
E. A story for another day, I suppose.
Blue Beetle/Jaime Reyes question:
Why doesn't Blue Beetle fire a warning shot or say something like "Stop or I shoot!" whenever he confronts villains?
It's situational.
If this isn't too much of a spoiler: What happened to Shimmer because I saw her in one of the capsules with the abductees and lagoon boy in "Darkest"
How could that NOT be a spoiler?
The ending to "Darkest" made me cry. Good show, sir and to all others involved in the making of this episode. Good show.
Thank you.
Hi Greg. I have two questions for you.
1. Are there more villains on Earth other than the recurring 50 or so individuals we've seen so far?
2. Several of the villains seem to have broken out of prison at different points in time. Are some of them lacking the ability to escape from their cell?
1. Of course.
2. Depends on the villain and the cell.
