Hey Greg,

Wondering how you broke into the comic book industry? I know you were an editor at DC at one time. What was that process like?

Thanks for your time!

Greg responds...

I think my story is probably a bit atypical...

In 1983, Marvel announced a search for new talent. I calculated that they'd be inundated with submissions. But I also calculated that DC would soon initiate their own talent search. So instead of prepping a Marvel submission, I prepped one for DC.

Sure enough, a month later, DC announced its own search for new talent. I immediately sent in my submission. Years later, I found the log book for these submissions, and mine was literally the second one they received. They logged the submission into the book with my name and address - and then lost the actual submission, which I also found years later at the bottom of a file cabinet where it had clearly slipped down between two hanging folders.

Because 75% of the submissions they received were from artists, they gambled that mine was an artist submission as well. They sent me a packet for new artists. But of course, I was one of the 25% who had made a writing submission. And I was outraged, OUTRAGED! Outraged in a way that only a know-nothing 19-year-old can be.

So I wrote DC Executive Editor Dick Giordano an OUTRAGED Letter. And then I figured that would be the end of it.

But for whatever reason, Dick was impressed with (or more likely amused by) my letter. He called me. On the phone. He invited me to come to the DC offices at 666 5th Avenue.

After I graduated from college, Dick hired me as an Editorial Assistant (i.e. as a Xerox Boy), and later promoted me to Assistant Editor and then Associate Editor. He was a true mentor to me. A great guy.

The USA has child in danger laws? So why does US Government and the American police not stop the Justice League use of children as sidekicks in the Universe of Young Justice?

Greg responds...

Awareness? They are a covert team, after all.

Look, the simple fact is that these kids would be and/or were doing this anyway. At least with League support they stand a better chance. Or so the thinking goes.

Beyond that... well, THAT'S the concept/conceit of the series. If you don't buy into it - which is fine - I can't help you much.

Is the international space station in earth orbit in the young justice universe?

Greg responds...

<shrug> I guess. Maybe.

Can the young justice Vandal Savage be killed?

Greg responds...

I would think so. But the question is academic. He hasn't been killed. At least not yet.

Hello! I know that you're going to be working on the upcoming Kanan comic series and I can't wait for it! We all know Kanan as this sort of space cowboy who offers up plenty of quips to his foes as well as the guy who's in the lead and who knows what he's doing most of the time, so I'd like to ask:

Did you find it challenging to go backward in Kanan's timeline and explore his Padawan years after seeing what all he's done and how he's acted in Rebels, or was it relatively easy to work backwards from who Kanan is now to who he was in that period of time?

Greg responds...

I'm not sure 'easy' is the word I'd use, but it was a joy. And it wasn't a problem. We had most of this stuff worked out as we developed the series.

What was your favorite arc in star wars the clonewars? Also who was your favorite charcter?

Greg responds...

My brain doesn't really work that way.

I don't have a favorite arc, per se. And I still haven't seen all of clone wars. But Ahsoka popped for me.

Hi Greg. Big fan. So, I was just wondering, how exactly did Earth-16 Black Canary get her Canary Cry? They didn't know about the Meta-Gene until season 2.

Greg responds...

No Spoilers.

But I will say that not knowing about the gene didn't mean it didn't exist.

You mentioned in a previous post that the reason Barbara wasn't doing much to hide her identity was because nobody really knew who she was. So what is Tim's status on Earth-16? I've heard of some adaptations where he is adopted by Bruce and some where he is Robin but still lives with his very much alive parents. Is he known as Bruce's adopted son? Or is it because his parents are rich?

Greg responds...

No spoilers.

Hello there, I'm a big YJ fan, and I have a couple of uestions.

1) When you first thought about Artemis and Wally's relationship, did you always knew they were in for the long run? I think what I'm actualy trying to ask is if you developed their relationship beliving they were meant for each other, and if they would be still together after season 2 if Wally hadn't died.

2)My second question is about Nightwing-Dick. In the comics specially, it's clear that he has a hsitory with several girls (Including Zatanna, who by the way I love how you portraited) but none as strong and deep as the one he has with Barbara. We know he's a "dog" and not quite ready for her, but do you believe that he (I mean the Dick you developed) would ever be?

Thank you so much for reading this.

Greg responds...

1. I'll say that we knew they'd still be together in Season Two. Beyond that, I'm not talking.

2. No spoilers.
