Condolences to the Sperling family on their loss. It's a great shame, and so unjust, too.

Hey,
I'm sorry to hear about Gary Sperling. He was a good man and he will be missed. I meet him at the Gathering in LA, he was a funny guy and very open and friendly. My condolences to his family. I hope it will bring some comfort to them to know that he touched many lives and brought joy and laughter to many more.

This should really belong in the other comment room, but - .

This year at the Gathering (I hope) the TGS staff will be reading the opening episode of Season Four of "Pendragon" (an episode which I wrote). I've decided to dedicate the episode to Gary Sperling (it works all the more since Leo, Una, and Griff will be among the characters in it and Sperling had worked on "M.I.A.").

As far as the dvd is concerned, I'm glad that it is on, but any other news about what is included in it? Am I just waiting on the movie version of Awakening and some tv ads? I'll get excited when I see some pictures, a release date, and some reviews of the disc.

Ellen> What edition of Milton's works did you get that out of? The edition we used for my Milton class isn't that great (Oxford edition), seeing as how they modernized the spelling. I would really like to get a hold of an edition that keeps the original spelling intact.

Thank you for the news on Gary Sperling, Greg. The world is clearly poorer for having lost him.

In memoriam:

An Epitaph on the admirable Dramaticke Poet, William Shakespeare.

What neede my Shakespeare for his honoured bones,
The labour of an age, in piled stones,
Or that his hallow'd Relikes should be hid,
Under a starre-ypointing Pyramid?
Deare Sonne of Memory, great heire of Fame,
What needs thou such weake witnesse of thy name,
Thou in our wonder and astoneshment,
Hast built thy selfe a live-long Monument:
For whilst to th'shame of slow endevouring Art,
Thy easie numbers flow, and that each heart,
Hath from the leaves of thy unvalu'd Booke,
Thoase Delphicke lines with deepe Impression tooke.
Then thou our fancy of our selfe bereaving,
Dost make us marble with too much conceiving,
And so Sepulcher'd in such pompe doth lie,
That Kings for such a Tombe would wish to die.

i guess its kinda a bittersweet day.

its really great news about the Gargoyles DVD coming out next year for the 10th anniversary, but the loss of Gary Sperling is very sad. his contributions to the series have been huge and he will be missed by all Gargoyles fans, and esspecially by his family. i'm sure i speak for everyone when i say our thoughts are with them.

just an idea, maybe a dedication to Mr. Sperling and others who have contributed to Gargoyles and have died could be put on the DVD?

thanks for keeping us informed on everything, Greg.

GARY SPERLING> I know I must have met him at the Gathering 2001, I know I have his autograph...yet so much happend in those days it's almost a blur. Somebody, please tell me you have pictures or a video of him.
I do believe Mr. Sperling wrote for "Thundercats" as well. I'm sure if I dig deep enough I'll see he had a hand in all my favorite childhood shows. And knowing just how much of an impact he had on the character and plot development of GARGOYLES....
He will be missed. I give my condolances to his family and friends, and you as well Greg.
One really doesn't expect things like this.

I can't think of anything more to say. I'll be back in a hopefully happier time. Until then, farewell. ****Blaise fades away into so many dust particles.****

my condelences for Gary Sperling. I was raised on quite a few of those shows.

DPH: [Brooklyn and Katana] - what makes you think he has decided on that information yet? and if not, what's the rush? if it is that important why don't you come up with your own version, whatever you plan to do with it is not capable of following any canon adventures anyway. And there are already several good timelines around on the Gargoyles universe, and not a lot which a fan with a pad and a pencil couldn't figure out on their own with what is already in the archives. But maybe having a timelien linked of the FAQ would help. If denying already-answered question's actually made peopel go READ it...

Uhh, if you'd bother to look *closely*, you'd notice the first one starts off with "next step- get Greg hooked on webcomics." Trust me, NONE of those sites have any connection to Aaron other than him being a big fan of their work.

Todd had it right - that's what I meant.

Lynati - <what was this (obscure) character doing at this (obscure) time?> What's an obscure time? Was the time of "The Mirror" and the time of "City of Stone" parts 1-4 an obsecure time? <"how old was this character in ___"> Hmm. If a timeline is added to the system, a lot of confusion could be avoided. However, what about asking this question: how biologically old were Brooklyn and Katana when Brooklyn first met Katana? Unless you had a timeline of Brooklyn's Timedancing years and a regular one, you couldn't answer that question.

My condolences on the passing away of Gary Sperling.

Gary Sperling has passed away.

It wasn't a surprise. Though he never smoked a day in his life, he had lung cancer. Surgery to remove one of his lungs failed to halt the spread of the cancer, and a few minutes ago he passed away with his wife beside him.

Some of you may have met Gary at the 2001 Gathering in Los Angeles. I hope you did. I hope you got a chance to talk to him or at least listen to him. He was a phenomenally intelligent, reasonable and wonderful human being.

Gary was a lawyer by training, who gave up a lucrative career to do something he loved. Write. Specifically, he wrote cartoons. A lot of cartoons, mostly for Disney TV Animation. A very incomplete list of shows he worked on would include: Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, Nightmare Ned, Hercules, Buzz Lightyear, Max Steel and Kim Possible. (And those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.)

He was a terrific writer and story editor, and a great friend. His contributions to Gargoyles are hard to measure. He was truly a rock on that show. Someone I could always count on. Listing his Gargoyles credits will give you a partial idea of just how much your enjoyment of the series was based on Gary's work...

UPGRADE - Story Editor
PROTECTION - Story Editor & Writer
HERITAGE - Story Editor
KINGDOM - Story Editor
GOLEM - Story Editor & Writer
M.I.A. - Story Editor
THE NEW OLYMPIANS - Story Editor
BUSHIDO - Story Editor & Writer
THE GATHERING, PART TWO - Co-Story Editor & Co-Teleplay Writer
TURF - Story Editor
THE RECKONING - Co-Story Editor & Teleplay Writer

In addition, he helped develop BAD GUYS and was the writer on the BAD GUYS Story Reel which I show every year at the Gathering.

Among other things, Gary turned Brooklyn into a leader, turned Dingo into a good guy, created both the London and Ishimura Clans and set the stage for Broadway and Angela to fall in love. If any of those things helped to make you a fan, then he's the reason.

Gary leaves behind a wife and two young children. Plus many other friends and family members who will miss him tremendously.

How about no "how old was this character in ___" , "what are the names of this character's parents/siblings/best friend's dog", or "what was this (obscure) character doing at this (obscure) time?" (ie, "what was anansi doing during 'Temptation'", or other questions on material that it is doubtful Greg has actually planned out in detail.)

I suspect that what DPH meant was questions that would need to be answered by a certain time or else they would become irrelevant, such as information about an upcoming event (such as one of the Gatherings) - if Greg Weisman is only able to get to that question and answer it after the event is over, the question becomes moot.

Good additional suggestions for what questions to appeal to people not to submit to "Ask Greg" - although I doubt that we should include the penalties.

Woo. I hate to say this, I'm probably going to re-ask a lot of previously answered questions dealing with the timeline since most of the answers came *before* Greg Weisman revised his timeline last time.

I'd like to see a timeline of events in the Gargoyle universe published in the Ask Greg area to go alongside the FAQ.

I'd like to add a rule:

No questions which require time-sensitive answers. (That would be a better rule than no asking for help with homework.)

If there is another contest, I'd like a fill-in-the-blank for selected parts of the timeline.

Todd:

5. No stupid/moron questions that are designed to waste Greg's time. Penalty for breaking rule 5 would result in a public dunking in a large, cold lake until soaked to the bone.

6. No questions disguised as insults. Insults are different from criticisms/critiques. Penalty for breaking rule 6 would result in the insulter actively following the Golden Rule for 1,000 consecutive hours.

7. No "why is Gargoyles not on the air/why is Greg not doing anything to bring Gargoyles back/etc." questions, as Greg is doing a lot to bring them back and listed several, fairly non-basis reasons why Gargoyles was cancelled. Penalty for breaking rule 7 would result in beating the offender with a large, inflatible hammer across the head, neck, and shoulders until he/she gets it.

8. Do say thank you. It makes everybody happy:)

Obiviously there's a more tactful way to phrase these rules but hey, it's a rough draft.

Cassie> HELLO!!! :)

TODD> Love your idea.

Worst episode? Hmmm. Gotta think on that one... (remember it's my opinion... I don't want to ruffle feathers.)

Episodes I am partial to: Long Way to Morning, The Mirror, Revelations, The Price, Avalon Tryptych, Future Tense, The Gathering Duo, The Reckoning

Episodes I don't much care for: A Lighthouse in the Sea of Time, The Silver Falcon, Vendettas

Best Ep? Avalon Tryptych

Worst Ep? None are really "bad," but if you include animation then it's Enter MacBeth. But bad for story? That just menas that they are boring. So... Vendettas or The Silver Falcon. BORING.

SHAKY> Happy Birth Day! Hey, do you think you could write a sequal to "A Midsummer Night's Dream? It's my favourite. What? You're dead? Oh darn...

Regarding the queue, here's an initial document that I decided to draw up, for when Greg's whittled down the backlog enough for it to be feasible to allow people to submit questions to "Ask Greg" again. It gives a list of what kinds of questions we'll be urging people not to submit:

1. No original ideas (whether masquerading as questions or not) - already in place from the start.
2. No questions that have already been submitted (particularly the ones in the FAQ's).
3. No questions about whether such-and-such a figure from legend or literature would have gotten into "Gargoyles" if it had lasted longer. Greg's already made it clear that everybody would have gotten in with enough time and episodes.
4. No "please help me with my homework" questions.

Howdy folks. I am just about half-way finished with the Toon Disney Gargoyles episodes. I'm pretty sure I saw all of these (the first two seasons anyway) when they originally aired and I taped over the ones I didn't like. Now, I'm older, I'm wiser, and I realize that even bad Gargoyle episodes are better than an incomplete Gargoyles series. I gotta admitt, though, I caught Mark of the Panther over the weekend and thought it absolutely stunk. I did tape it, convert it, and put it on disc, but I really don't see myself ever watching that one again. Do you guys feel the same about any of the episodes? So far, I'd say that Panther is the worst of the series for me. Course, I've yet to see Goliath Chronicles.... <:\

I am getting worried about the dvd. If Greg Weisman hasn't heard anything since November, I'm wondering if Disney cancelled it. This is the studio that put all kinds of folks to work on a special, 2-disc version of Lilo and Stitch and cancelled the release AFTER the work was done. Well, most of the work anyway. This series has been, for all intents and purposes, off-air for years. I'm wondering if they will ever release one dvd, much less the whole series. <:(

What do you guys think? Am I just a raving lunatic here?

I had some time to kill at the library today and started reading a book on Witches. But what I found especially interesting was the chapter in the book on Fairy's. The most fascinating part of it was the fact that the author wrote that Fairy's had an aversion to iron and get this: salt. Do you think the fae are afraid of salt too?
But there were some interesting insights in the book. Such as how Fairys were assumed to be both mortal sized and immortal at once. And also, interestingly, that fairy's are mortal, but long lived, but when they die, they do not perish, only change into another form.
This is all very in-line with the ideas put up in gargoyles.

"Haoyy" should read "happy." Forgive me, I just woke up :)

Fun fact: Shakespeare, along with Richard Burbage and some others, orginally owned a theatre called "The Theatre." As it turns out, the owner they leased the land from didn't want to renew their lease, meaning that he would essentially own The Theatre and be able to make profits off the growing theatre industry. Shakespeare and co. decided, then to move to a differant location.....and took the theatre with them. One night, Shakespeare, Richard, and some friends got together one post-christmas night and went over to The Theatre, disassembled it, and took to their new location renaming it "The Globe."
