MATT - Actually, Marge played the part of Demona (there was no Elisa-equivalent in the parody, as I said before). Patty and Selma had the roles of the Weird Sisters (reducing their number from three to two). And the parody ended with Greg Weisman showing up after the "Simpgoyles" had defeated Mr. Burns (not too difficult a feat, since Burns isn't quite as physically capable of bearing the weight of a gargoyle-shaped suit of armor as Xanatos is) and asking them if he can do a television series based on their story - which turns out, of course, to be the actual "Gargoyles" series. Homer stares a little too intently at Demona on the television screen, Marge catches him at it - and Homer winds up outside the castle, begging her to let him back inside, protesting "These pigeons are looking at me kind of funny."

Incidentally, I watched my tape of "M.I.A." earlier this afternoon, but I'll save my discussion of it for tomorrow, after the room's cleared.

As I have stated in my Gathering Journal, but I'll state once more here.

I OFFICIALLY apologise for ANY and *ALL* typos in the Programme. I looked it over twice, and I thought I had caught most of the errors...but no. But I'm just happy it's printed..so yeah. -_-;;

Of course, after staying up until at least 3am for two weeks straight, you'd get sick of looking at it too. If I would have gotten more done earlier, which I really should have..I would have had more time.

But considering this is the only SECOND full programme a con has had..I think it turned out ok. ^_^;;;

Patrick: you should be fine. there isn't any programmed limit for AG, so any limit is going to either be in your browser or on what the web server's software has, and I'm pretty sure 38k won't be a problem.

I've finished my Gathering Diary. It's posted in my Livejournal (link below). Does "Ask Greg" have a maximum amount of text that can be posted at one time? My diary takes up 15 pages in Word and has almost 38,000 characters.

TAINA - It was something called "The Simpgoyles" which had the Simpsons in "Gargoyles" roles; the Simpsons themselves as the clan, Mr. Burns as Xanatos, Smithers as Owen (that particular piece of casting would surprise nobody), and Groundskeeper Willy as Macbeth. (No Elisa equivalent, incidentally.) It also managed to incorporate the Birnam Wood business from Shakespeare, one element that never managed to find its way into "City of Stone". I think that Patrick Toman has it up on his site, though I'm not certain; it's been such a long time since I last read that fic.

BATTLE BEAST - I was a big fan of "The Real Ghostbusters" when it aired, but I don't recall that line now. The figure whom I usually associate it with is Superman (or Superman parodies).

Funny that you should mention "The Real Ghostbusters" in a "Gargoyles" context, though, since that series struck me as having two similarities with "Gargoyles": it was set in Manhattan, and it involved a lot of "real" mythical and literary beings showing up (I recall barrow-wights, Proteus, Valkyries, Marduk and Tiamat, the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, Cthulhu, a banshee, the Fates, Necksa the lord of the undines or water elementals, domovoi - Russian household spirits, and Sir Breuse sans Pitie, an Arthurian robber-knight). In fact, it could have easily boasted alongside "Gargoyles" the claim of "With enough time and enough episodes, we can get every legend in". One story, in particular, felt almost like a foreshadowing of the Canmores; the Ghostbusters were called to the castle of a vampire in eastern Europe (a "good guy" vampire who drinks artificial blood rather than preying upon the living) after he's being pursued by a ruthless vampire-hunter named Van Heldun (the last member of an infamous family of vampire hunters who were the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Van Helsing) who is ready to do anything to get rid of the vampire, such as tricking the local villagers into believing the vampire a menace so that they'll storm his castle. (The episode even made the old case of hammering a stake through a vampire's heart while he's in his coffin seem as cowardly as - well, attacking a gargoyle in his or her stone sleep.)

Incidentally, today, August 14, is the anniversary of Macbeth's victory over Duncan in 1040. And tomorrow, August 15, is the anniversary of Canmore's victory over Macbeth in 1057.

A few more thoughts about "Sanctuary" from last evening.

Demona really does have a very hokey French accent. Apparently even two past visits to Paris (the one in "Team Atlantis" and the one in 1980 where she retrieved the Praying Gargoyle and killed Charles Canmore) haven't been enough to help her master the correct tone.

Her line to Macbeth, "We have all the time in the world", is truly appropriate - they literally have all the time in the world until they kill each other. (Let's give the production team full marks for subtlety in that they didn't have Demona wink slyly to the camera after delivering that line.)

One of Greg Weisman's past remarks on "Sanctuary" cleared up one misconception that I had about the episode. For a long time, I'd thought that, when Demona's about to shoot Macbeth and he cries, "No, don't!", he'd finally gained a last moment understanding of how wonderful it is to be alive and how precious such a gift is. Which did seem indeed too "last moment". But Greg revealed that he was actually shouting it to Elisa just as she was about to shoot Demona. Which makes a bit more sense, though the way that it was run in the episode, I can see how I misinterpreted the incident.

Thailog's at his most utterly villainous here (as usual), scheming to dispose of both Demona and Macbeth for his own benefit (and with Demona not even being aware of it), and only failing because of Elisa's intervention. (And I still find it disturbing that he leers at Angela - and even more disturbing when I reflect upon the fact that the incest angle wouldn't disturb him even if he knew whose daughter Angela was.) Note that he calls Demona "Angel of the night" as well, and also "night angel" (which fits his style much better). Did Thailog know that that was what Goliath used to call Demona, I wonder? Or is it just a neat coincidence (like his using the alias of "Alexander")?

Macbeth and Demona's fights have a semi-comic tone about them, I can't help thinking, in light of how what happens to one happens to both. And I like the little touch of Banquo and Fleance showing up at the wedding, in non-speaking roles. (Not to mention Margot walking past Elisa - even when the yuppies are on vacation, they still run into the clan - as was the case as well in "Monsters" where they were on the tour boat on Loch Ness. For that matter, I recall a creativity demon that somebody had in the chat room once where one of the places that the skiff shows up on the Avalon World Tour - following the notion that any body of water, no matter how small, can serve as a gateway to Avalon - is Brendan and Margot's hot tub - while Brendan and Margot are in it! Their response to that would certainly have been fun to see.)

I've uploaded the new AG layout. It's been heavily reworked, although you hopefully won't notice too much of a difference.

The left-hand column is narrower, gutter space was compacted where I could. The goal was to free up some extra horizontal space so things fit better for lower-res users. It also (and this was key) seems to fix a nasty bug in IE/Mac where you couldn't select the text within the page. Now IE/Mac users should be able to select text in the content column. (left column you probably still won't be able to, but this is the best I could get with IE/Mac.)

If anyone has problems with the updated layout, please e-mail me or post here and let me know.

Saturday August 7th

Having being dropped off at 9:00 at the Dorval bus station, I took the 211 downown, from there, took the Orange line to Square Victoria.

I had no trouble finding the hotel.

Upon entering the hotel, I took the escalator to the Mezzanine where I signed up for a day pass.

Having been given a badge and program, decided to take part in the Trivia challenge, being somewhat good with trivia myself.

When that was finished, I ventured into the dealer room, where I picked up a T-shirt and deposited a 3-D jigsaw that I had to the auction.

At the point, I headed up to the Con Suite where I scarfed a whole bag of B-Bque chips(Broadway would be proud).

At 12:30, went down to see the auction and was bummed that the item that I wanted was already sold.

Oh well, at least this presented me with the opportunity to purchase a copy of PGA back in the dealer room.

I was totally flabbergasted by some of the artwork. Man I wish I knew how to draw like that.

Then came the radio play, Kudos on all of you who were brave enough to participate in it.

After it ended, I seized the moment to have Greg sign my program.

Back up to the Con Suite I went for more of Season 1.

Before I knew it, it was 6 in the evening, I was bouncing off the walls in anticipation for the arrival of Keith, that I handed my program after writing my address on the back of it to someone who told me that they would have Keith sign it for me.

I guess in all the excitemnt/confusion, I had no idea that it was Kanthara that took my program from me.

And so ends my First(and hopefully not last) con experience.

Yeah, I too lost my Con virginity. However, I don't think I'll make it for Vegas, but if Gathering 2006 is in Ottawa, I'll so be there.

Also, I hope to take more of an active part in it, rather than just sitting in the Con Suite bringing back memories of Season 1 Uncut.

Hey, that was fun too, and who knows I might even sign up for Staff Duty.

I'm back in Los Angeles after an amazing trip to Montreal and a fun family half-week in San Diego.

My own Gathering Journal will be forthcoming in installments, as usual.

But in the meantime, I'd like to remind everyone who attended G2004 to please, PLEASE, take a few minutes and write up your experiences in as much detail as possible.

Were you on staff? Were you a dealer? Were you there for the whole weekend or just for a few hours? Whatever your situation, please write up a Gathering Journal and post it at ASK GREG. It's great if you have your own website or livejournal and want to post it there or even here in the S8 Comment Room, but please CUT & PASTE your journals and put them on ASK GREG as well. No links please. Cut & Paste.

For those of you who've already done this, thanks. For those of you who started but didn't quite make it through the weekend, please don't run out of steam. For those of you who haven't started, START. Trust me, your memory isn't going to improve with time.

We had about 200 people at the Gathering. I'm hoping to get at least 100 diaries/journals at ASK GREG. AT LEAST. (Frankly, I'd be thrilled with 100% journaling.) Getting them all there allows me to direct the Disney/Buena Vista powers-that-be to the site as a single clearing house.

Guys, this is important. Prove that you are going to do what it takes in the coming year to support the show by taking this simple first step.

It will be very much appreciated at this end.

Watched my tape of "Sanctuary" this afternoon. (The second time this year, since I regularly watch it on Valentine's Day.)

Greg Weisman had definitely learned by this time to be careful over what to include in the "Previously On" section; there's plenty about Demona and Macbeth, and about the revelation that Angela is Goliath's biological daughter, but not a mention of Thailog. Good move.

I still really like this one (except for Elisa's "This is a job for the gargoyles" line, but I won't go into that this time around). Very little that's new to say about it, however. (I seem to be running low on these new comments lately. Maybe that's what comes from it being so long since the series ended.)

Re: PGA > about every author who contributed had a different rendition of the spell. So I went to the con staff, and they went to Greg, and what he told us was the one we used in every story so that they'd all match. Continuity over correctness. And yeah, it made Tim gnash his teeth too ... he's a big Latin geek ;)

I made a case for the version of the spell I submitted which was "correct," but from an editing standpoint I agree with Christine's decision to go with the spell that's in the show/has been accepted as canon - the point of the anthology is to honor the Gate, not hand out Latin lessons with every book.

Greg has admitted on several occasions that the spell is wrong, but meh - I still give him much credit for even deciding to go with Latin in a show targeted to an audience which was probably universally unfamiliar with it.

I think I remember Greg saying that it was just a translation mistake and they just stuck with it.
The latin might be "deflagrate" but who knows what it is in "magic latin." :-p

Lanny warned me that there's been some discussion of this in the fandom already, so I'm probably the Johnny-come-lately, but I wanted to ask: I read the Phoenix Gate Anthology, and I wondered why so many people got the latin WRONG. Including the back cover of the Anthology itself. I mean, I looked up the latin for "burn" -- flagrare, flamare, all derivatives like that-- and when I looked up "Deflagrate," I got "to burn down." (Reference example: http://lysy2.archives.nd.edu/cgi-bin/words.exe?deflagrate ) But there are no hits for "deslagrate." It isn't a word. So why is there this supposed "fannish schism" over it-- it's a language, with established words that can be looked up. Anyone enlighten me? What I suspect has happened is that people thought they HEARD "Deslagrate" on the show, and it got stuck in their heads. Congrats to Scott Rogoff for getting it right in his story. And hey-- I'm not out to offend people. This just seems like a really weird "controversy" to have.

I think it's from Micah 6:8 (which is Old Testament) but the words are switched around. Instead it says to "act justly and love mercy." That's the only thing similar to that quote.

STEPHEN - My prayers go out to you.

Watched my tape of "Golem" this afternoon. One of the things that really stood out to me this time was how much I liked the performance that Renard's voice actor (Robert Culp was his name, wasn't it?) has given Renard. He has a very strong voice, with a lot of characterization in it, and I think that it really helped bring Renard to life. (Pity that he probably won't see my comments on this, since, while Greg and a few of the animators - such as Roy Sato - have stopped by here from time to time, I don't recall the voice actors ever doing so; if I'm wrong about this, please correct me.)

Apart from that, I don't have much new to say. I really like the bit where Goliath is perched on top of that tower in Act One, silently looking out over Prague. And the scene where Renard first spots Goliath while he's in the speedboat with Vogel and Brod, and seems both astonished and not quite happy about the big gargoyle's presence. And I really got to like Max Loew, especially when he was standing up to Renard-in-the-Golem's-body, refusing to get out of the way because it was his job to guide the Golem.

I really should look up the quote that Max delivers when he stops the Golem from dropping Brod into the pit: "Love justice and do mercy." I'm certain that it's from the Bible (since Max and the Golem are both Jewish, it'd have to be from the Old Testament), but I can't quite place it at the moment.

I'm glad that Goliath realizes, at the end of the episode (and for the remainder of the World Tour) that the reason why Avalon hasn't sent them back to New York yet is that they've got a mission to fulfill in other parts of the world.

Not as much to say this time around. Sorry about that.

This may be my last post for a while... considering that right now Hurricane Charley is being tracked to make landfall right on top of the Tampa Bay Area... They've evacuated the local Air Base, and there's a crush to get out of the immediate area.

I've got get things taken care of... Hopefully my home will still be here after the storm is gone.

I had a nice time at convention this year (my second) despite the nightmare of getting to and from Montreal. In the words of a local, "Dorval sucks". I've already signed for next year. My mother the gambling fanatic seems to be far more excited about the choice of venue than me though. She's stayed at the Palace Station before and gives it two thumbs up, so there's a 99-44/100% chance of her tagging along. I've always found gambling to be as dull as dirt, but I welcome the chance to see the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam.

Keith David seems like a great guy. I submitted his name to the cast list of The Transporter 2 on IMDb (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0388482/). By the way, I sometimes had a real hard time hearing him at the banquet thanks to the "whore" next door, so did anybody catch the name of movie he was telling the flashlight story about?

Took a break from working on AG today to get acclimated to some video editing software I got with my MiniDV camcorder. I'm putting up some initial video clips from the Gathering and I hope to add more. I'm trying to keep the clips small, but still of decent quality. About 5mb for 3 minutes or so of video. I'm trying to get some quicktime versions up that are small but still look decent.... nothing so far. :\

Hopefully what's up there can satisfy 90% of the people visiting the site.

Well, I've just about reached the limit on this free site I have here. I may just have to bite the bullet and get me a bigger site. I need something that doesn't limit the uploading file size. Still have quite a few videos to put up...and getting ideas for more each day. I am having a hard time finding a song that fits Hudson. Also having trouble with one for the Trio. I think that the next video will have quotes in it. I'm starting to churn out the same old, same old. Time to mix it up. >:)

Btw, was there a video contest at the gathering? From what I gathered (no pun intended), Keith David arrived at the time the videos were to be viewed. Plus, there was the costume contest at the same time too, right? Just curious. ^_^

Well, the Gathering has definitely rejuvenated the comment room. I haven't seen this many posts in one day for a long time!

Watched my tape of "Monsters" today. I still find the idea behind it very appropriate (the gargoyles, who are Scottish "monsters", meet the most famous monster in all of Scotland), but I can see why it's not so popular with the fans; the animation (as Greg Weisman himself pointed out) isn't as good as it is elsewhere. If the animation had only been better....

Sevarius is in as much form as ever, with such memorable lines as "If it gets any more saccharine in there, I'm going to stick my finger down my throat", "You're his very own flesh and stone", "That's Dr. Sevarius to you", "They say that a man's home is his castle, and what fun would a castle be without its very own dungeon?", and "Monster love" (with that last one, it's how he says it that I really find amusing).

I didn't realize until much later on that the Xanatos Goon Squad (except for Bruno) drowned aboard the sub; if I had, that moment would have impacted me much the same way that the Archmage eating the Grimorum had done. A familiar element of the series, there from the very beginning, gone for good. (Oddly enough, in the scenes where the sub was going down and we saw the Goon Squad's response, I couldn't see the blonde female member among them, so I don't know whether she wasn't on board after all or whether it was an animation error or she just wasn't in the right angle for me to see her hair. She was the only one of the lot, apart from Bruno, to stand out as an individual in the team.)

We now know, of course, that Sevarius was more correct in his initial suspicions about Angela (in a sense), since in Greg's Masterplan, there are indeed gargoyles lurking in Loch Ness. (So much for Demona's claim that the Hunters wiped out the last gargoyle clan in Scotland! Although, to be perfectly fair to her, I doubt that she knew about the Loch Ness gargoyles.) Of course, Greg will have to explain now why they didn't show up in "Monsters".

Regardless of what you think of the ep, it's an important one in that we find out that Angela is Goliath's biological daughter, which will have major consequences down the road.

Matt really needs to clean out his answering machine more often.

I have attended sci-fi/fantasy conventions since 1985. In my youth, everything was new and exciting and I always looked forward to the next opportunity to meet like-minded people at these magical weekend gatherings.

But like anything, it gets old after a while: one becomes jaded, or cynical, or bored. And for those of us who turn a hobby into a business, this is intensified by the "professional" angle that we maintain.

But at this convention, I re-discovered a pleasure that I haven't enjoyed in almost ten years: The sheer enjoyment of reveling in the appreciation of a wonderful creation-- in this case, Disney's animated TV series, "Gargoyles."

The show ended its run in 1997, but the fandom survived-- and have held a regular convention every year since that time. Understand: the show was over. It only ran three seasons, the last of which wasn't even the same production house as the first two (thus a dispute on whether there were three seasons, or really only two.) And yet, despite this, a loyal following of fans put forth the effort to make a convention happen, dedicated to this show, year after year in a different city each time.

That's dedication.

I was always a fan of the show, but I felt no particular motivation to seriously join the fandom, until this year, when my good friend Lanny, aka Spiritwolf, invited me to the convention. "You're a voice actor," he said. "You've got to come. Some of the voice talent from the show will be there." And then he very, very generously offered to fly me down on his air travel points, and put me up in his hotel room.

That's friendship.

How could I say no? I looked forward to it-- and I hadn't been to Montréal since I was four-- what a fun opportunity!

So I flew down east, got picked up by Lanny and Derrick and off we went to the hotel.

The very first night, I saw the difference between this convention and so many others: The people who made it happen, and the guests around which the fandom is based. Lanny, it turns out, knew most of the convention staff personally, not to mention Greg Weisman, the creator of the show. We all went out to dinner the first night and I sat between Greg and Lanny and across from the con chair, Karine "Kanthara" Charlebois (six months pregnant and still the perfect hostess, she is TEH FABULOUS, or as we say in French, <i>absolument fameuse.</i>).

And there it was: meeting one of the guests of honour, the show's creator, who is a great guy and very open and-- and this is the part that really sent me-- just one of the gang. You'd never pick Greg Weisman out at this convention as the Special Guest Superstar Guy. He knows these people, and they know him. They're old friends. You can feel that vibe. They're used to each other, comfortable with each other. It's a feeling I haven't seen before in the otherwise drooling-fan-infested populations of other conventions.

I noticed that compared to other conventions, the dealer's room and art show were small. I realized this was because they weren't the focus of the convention, they weren't the <i>point.</i> The point was, and always has been as far as I can tell, the people. The fans I began to meet were happy to be there, as opposed to the dull whineyness of many convention veterans. They were from many diverse backgrounds, and there was a wide spread of age ranges. Artists, theatricals, computer techs, veterinarians, publishers... one couldn't pigeonhole this fandom into one demographic; they are, literally, from all over the place.

I met people that I knew only vaguely as names mentioned by Hawkstone or Taeha. They too, had heard of me in similarly vague ways. Those barriers dissolved quickly as I was welcomed by everyone I met. Like I said, these people are all part of the gang-- in Gargoyle terms, we're all one big clan.

I haven't felt that connection in years. I used to have the same feeling with other <a href="http://www.elfquest.com">ElfQuest</a> fans in the late 80's, but since then had become jaded. These people, this Clan, re-awoke something in me that I thought I'd lost, like a memory of my youth but still present in the here-and-now.

The Radio Play, the main reason Lanny invited me and the reason I wanted to go, was so much fun I forgot that I was trying to be a professional and do some serious learning from the veterans of the biz. I auditioned for Greg Weisman, who made it very easy, explaining in a prior seminar what he wanted and how to give it to him, and with the help of Jen, miss CrzyDemona herself, they cast me (as The Ham Comedy Character, which tells me that they had me figured out from the word Go).

Here's the other magical thing about this: Keith David, the voice of Goliath himself, was meant to be at the voice seminar and the subsequent radio play. Due to complications he couldn't arrive until late Saturday night. Guess what-- I had an amazing time anyway. It says a lot about a convention that even when a major guest can't make it, that the fun just keeps on going. I know it did for me.

Keith arrived at around 11 pm Saturday night and he was welcomed-- he had brought his family and he sang karaoke songs after the costume contest. Once again, a miracle-- I can't think of any celebrity who would not only bring his family to a convention with him, but actually stick around and participate in a room full of adoring fans singing karaoke.

The magic of the Gathering, again.

On a personal note, I found the man inspiring. He was <i>resonant.</i> I could believe everything he said because I could feel the strength of <i>his</i> belief behind it. He spoke of the industry of acting and voicing, which spoke directly to me-- but his other anecdotes and stories were a pleasure to listen to as well, because he was sharing in an intimate setting.

Intimate settings seemed to be the name of the game, as Greg Weisman hosted his own "Mug-A-Guest" panels, in both the PG-13 and the "Blue" -- anything goes -- format. Sitting in the con suite, hanging out, anyone could ask him anything. He was accessible. He was friendly. He was candid, open, everyone's pal.

Again, something I've never seen before.

Disney is planning to release the first season on DVD on December 7th of this year. There was a film crew at the Gathering, filming us every day and asking for interviews with the fans. I volunteered, wanting to do my part to explain the amazing phenomenon that Gargoyles fandom is. I hope that I painted a good, clear picture and that something of that message makes it onto the "special features" of the DVD release, because this phenomenon is too cool to allow to pass unnoticed.

To my fellow Clansmates out there, the new people I've met and the generous friend who allowed me my first glimpse of this amazing world-- thank you. Thank you for a great weekend. Thank you for a truly magical experience. I can't say enough about a weekend with no downsides except perhaps:

- Fear me in battle at LaserQuest.
- Liz is a total SHARK at Mario Kart. Fear HER.
- Next year, in Las Vegas, I really hope to put together a smashing team for the Clan Olympics.

Matt Fewes - As much as I would love to send you a copy of the episodes, I cannot for two reasons.
1. Immediately after the con, I loaned them to a friend so he could watch all the episodes and catch up on his garg termonology.
2. As I told you at the convention, I unfortunately do not own two VCRs nor the capture equipment needed to make copies. I am sure though if you ask around, there are fans who may be willing to make copies of the eps you are asking for and mail them to you. :)

I wish I could..I just can not because I am poor atm. :) Best of luck though.

Gathering 2004 was a blast

Went out to have breakfast at the diner with everyone and we parted ways. Lynati and Emambu are heading down to Pittsburgh and Aaron, Mara, Revel and Spacie have a very long haul to Houston.

Had a great time, but am depressed cause I hate this part... a lot.

I suppose I should now start my con journal.

Prologue

Getting to this Gathering was planned out several months in advance. Revel decided he was going to drive up with Spacebabie and would pick me up since it was in Montreal and I was on the way. Then this expanded into my brother coming, as well as Aaron and Mara... which was going to be a very tight squeeze. Then Emambu and Lynati joined in with Emambu's car... which helped a lot. It became a two car caravan with walkie talkies to stay in contact.

Wednesday, August 4th.

Spent the entire day getting ready, packing and cleaning up the house for my six guests. Constant phone calls to see where they were, plus plans to briefly chill with my friend Ron and his girlfriend Natalie who are flying back to Israel on Sunday (so this would be my last chance to see them). Ron and Natalie were at a concert in the city, and would not be in till late, and Revel said the caravan to the Gathering (here after referred to as the Rogue Squadron for reasons you'll see later), wouldn't arrive till late... Alex and I had bets as to who I'd see first.

I get a call from Ron that he and Natalie are at the train station so I go pick them up, we chill for a bit watching a re-run of "That 70's Show". Then I get a call from Revel, they're lost in Croton, and it takes a bit of doing but we manage to talk them to my street and drive way.

Gods, except for Mara I have not seen any of them in over a year. It was great, and my kitchen was very, very crowded. We eat, we chat, Revel and Spacebabie set up the inflatable bed in the dining room for themselves and drift off to sleep while the rest of us relocate up here to check e-mail, chat, watch AMVs, etc, etc, etc. At some point I dropped Ron and Natalie off at Ron's house.

We finally manage to get to sleep at around 3:30 am, with plans to be out of the house and on the road by noon.

That does not happen.

Thursday, August 5th

We try to get up early, but considering this crew (I am very guilty of this as well) we don't all end up up till at least 11 am. Then it's a while to get everyone showered and dressed and out. Plus we need to go to the hardware store so Lynati can pick up some wiring for her wings. Afterwards it's to the gas station for gas and some sodas.

Finally around 2:30 we are on the the Rogue Squadron is on the road. We head south to cross the Tappan Zee Bridge and head north... Montreal is well over 300 miles away, but traffic is light and we're making good time, we figure it shouldn't take more than a five hours to make the drive. Plus we have the walkie talkies to keep contact between the two cars. I'm riding in Revel's SUV (which is gold and named Hyena) and Aaron is riding in Emambu's car... dubbed affectionatly The Mafia Cruiser. We're constantly in contact and only have to make one stop in this back water town. These are the parts of New York state I never see. There is a town in NY called Troy... and there's another one called Coxsackie... we had a lot of fun with that name.

Finally we make it to the border... which had hundreds of cars all moving at a snails pace... and why, because the Canadian border controllers are on strike... but since it is illegal for them to strike, they are slowing things up as much as possible. We sit there for about 90 minutes. Finally, we get through and everyone stops to use the bathroom... and funny enough, once we crossed the border the temperature just dropped that very instant... so out come the trenchcoats. Nice to have trenchcoat weather during summer time and at a Gathering.

We get back into our cars and start heading north another 40 miles to Montreal... where we enter what we called The Death Star Trench The high way was reduced to one lane surrounded by these concrete barriers... and Aaron grabs the walkie talkie and starts quoting from the original Star Wars movie all sorts of lines from when they are flying through the Death Star trench, and we're quoting follow up lines... this goes on for several miles, and I have to say it's a good thing no cars broke down because we'd have been fucked, there is no where on either side to pull off. We figured the Canadian High Way unions do the same thing as ours'... they waste money.

Finally we make see the Montreal skyline, which has the weird search light shining all over the place, so in the geek moment, I use my Frodo voice and way "We made it to Mordor. It's the Eye". It takes us a bit of time to find the hotel because none of the signs are written in English. Which leads to one of the great weekend quotes from Aaron.

Montreal is like Broadway. It's large, slightly confused, boring and can't read or write English.

But we finally find the hotel, which was easy to find, and check in, there is a crowd of people and Sapphire comes up to say hi... and I regret to say that I did not recognize her without her glasses, with longer hair, and with her tattoos covered... Sapph, if you read this, I'm sorry.

We check in, and immedietly my keys are handed to a bellboy... which I snatch back, I will find my room myself, and I don't want to have to tip him. We put our bags in our room, and come back down. Here we run into Seth/IRC Goliath... and a bunch of other people, I'm blanking out on names, I'm sure someone will remind me.

Hudson, Chris Rogers and his crew arrive and we immedietly start talking Gathering 2005. And at the time, Chris asks Aaron to be his Treasurer, and Aaron says yes. And for those of you who don't know, Aaron and I had a pact after Gathering 2003 that if either of us ever seriously considered being on con staff again, we'd commit ritual suicide. But the pact was broken, and I did not feel like ritual suidice anyway.

We all hang, and finally the G2004 staff and Greg Weisman arrives. Greg gives me some good natured ribbing for last year, which is fine, I have a sense of humor about it, and it is funny. Ironically enough, I was more at ease with Greg this year than at previous years, because there was still the celebrity Gargoyles creator thing going, but this year we were like old friends instead of series creator and series fan. And Greg is just one of the greatest people in the world any way. It was great to see him again.

It was really great to see Crzy Jen, cause I was always disappointed that she couldn't make it to Gathering 2003. It was really great, and finally as one con chair to another I went up to Karine to tell her it would all be over soon... I said it humorously though... but seriously, Karine did all this and was five months pregnant. Talk about an iron will.

The con staff goes to bed and the rest of us hang out with Greg Weisman in the lobby for about another hour. And afterwards we decide it's time for bed, had a long drive and we all need sleep.

For those of you who don't know me (which is probably most of you) and were at the con, I cos-played Echidna.. just for reference purposes.

Just wanted to say that this is the 2nd Gathering I've been too, and it was awesome. The staff did a great job. I can't wait for Vegas next year. I hope to put more names with faces and get a little more active in the fandom again.

By the way, Gorebash. I looked over the site, and I honestly can't find anything to change in the gargs section. I mean, your archives are out of date, but who cares? I think ask greg and the comment room are the biggest/most important parts of the site, and those have been maintained beautifully. The only thing I can suggest is allowing trusted friends /fans to go through the queue of questions for ask greg, and delete the ones that we know are going to be "I can't answer this." or "This has nothing to do with me." or "It's in the archives, look it up."

Just some notes I wrote down during the blue mug-a-guest with Greg that I wanted to be sure and mention in case they haven't been already:

- Disney originally wanted commentaries on the first two Awakening episodes and Deadly Force. Greg pushed for commentaries on all 5 Awakening episodes but lost Deadly Force. So Disney actually increased the budget to 5 episode commentary tracks from the originally planned 3.

- Disney doesn't really know how the DVD is going to sell. It's almost an experiment of sorts for Disney.

- Disney is happy with the commentary tracks. They feel they're good.

- Commentary tracks include Greg, Keith David, and Frank Paur.

- Greg was interviewed by the DVD crew for (4 1/2 hours?! Did I get that right?) There were a lot of fan-oriented questions asked to Greg. The DVD crew seemed really big on the fans.

- Were the episode "The Last" of "Team Atlantis", which would have featured Demona and a member of the Hunter family line, the Hunter would not have worn a mask on her face, but would have a 3-slash scar or the like to make it obvious to those who know what's what.

- The DVD will be created using the 1995 master copies of the episodes. This is because the first run of some episodes contained errors that couldn't be fixed in time for their debut (Vows). No edits are being made to the episodes, they will appear exactly as they did when they aired in 1995.

- There will be advertising done for the DVD release on Toon Disney and ABC Family. Greg was happy that any advertising budget existed.

- Suggestion from someone in attendance that we coordinate our purchases of the DVD on Amazon.com so as to create a spike in sales on that day which can lead to a further increase in purchases by making the DVD more visible on such a highly-trafficed commerce site.

- Mythological creatures such as gryphons and unicorns are based on Gargoyles like Griff and Una.

- Greg has an idea in mind for the origins of Dragons but wasn't going to go into it.

- Members of the 3rd race are made of matter, not just some ethereal thing.

That's what I got written down. Anyone with more notes on this or other such events please feel free to contribute.

Okay, so I said at the con I'd have this up yesterday. I'm 3 hours past due. Dammit, I'm trying to bring back some amount of legitimacy to the dates I hand out.

Multiple nodes per page on Ask Greg. There you go.

I say nodes, it more properly describes the thing, but everyone understands "posts" better than "nodes" so I've put "posts per page" on the new navigation bar that's been added. I'll keep saying nodes, mind you, so there's an entry for your gore to english guide: "nodes" = "posts".

This is a first-attempt, so if/when you find a bug, please let me know via e-mail so I can fix it. I haven't tested it in many browsers, but I don't expect problems with this particular update.

I know. I have my reasons, partly due to laziness, but there are legitimate reasons too. Depending on the response (or lackthereof) I may use a drop-down later.

I want to thank the Con Staff as well as Maui and Abe Wintersmith for working their asses off. I was anticipating this event since NYC last year, and my expectations were far exceeded.

Pre-Con: NYC 03 was my first con. I chat once inawhile online with folks, but I dont think I was too well known. Once the con was over, I decided I should contribute and participate more, in return for such an awesome weekend. I'm too lazy to be staff or volunteer, but hosting a panel appealed to me. Alot of them are about writing or art. I have no business telling anyone in this fandom how to write or draw. But I know alot about fighting, so maybe I could explain combat to people. So I offered to host a panel about combat, focusing on modern firearms. I was embarrased to see my name listed on the guest section under Greg and Thom for so long, since the I wrote my bio in seven seconds. Over in Bosnia, I submitted a story for the Phoneix Gate Anthology. I thought it was a shot in the dark. It was accepted, and when I saw my name in the list of the greatest fan writers ever, I was totally floored. Then I spent more time editing the thing than I did writing it! I still think its one of the weaker stories in the book, but no one spat on me at the con, so I guess its not that bad.

Also, I ended up getting a room with Abe and BrooklynX, two guys I've never seen. Well BrookX briefly in NYC. And I offered to pick up Wingless and Gabarus/Titanic in Ottawa. Then I haphazardly packed the day before the con.

The Con:

Thursday: This year I did the hard core nerd deal. One day early and one day late (not counting stay overs in Ottawa). We picked up Wingless and drove to the hotel with only a few extra turns. They checked in their room while I stalked the lobby for gargoyles fans. (alot of us really stand out. Ten year old see through t shirts of Goliath are a dead give away). I followed BrooklynX into an elevator after I heard him mumble to someone that he was looking for me. It was funny. I spent the rest of the day wandering around old montreal with Sarah The Great (she really is!) and Abe. Then I pretended to sleep while Maui and Abe discussed the clan olympics, for which I was the only guy to pre register a team.

Friday: After breakfeast and some schmoozing, I had to get ready for my panel. Sarah helped my lug my bag of show and tell items from my car to the room. I waited out the round robin folks and started to set up. Just when I though the dry wipe markers were the coolest thing ever, Greg (I forget you last name dude, sorry) comes out of nowhere with a projector that plugs straight into my laptop with no hassles. Amazing! I think my panel went pretty good. Folks were asking alot of good questions. No one wandered away, and I think I won the approval of the leather trench coat clan. (they didnt make me their cheif...). My panel went over time, which I think is a good sign, and I ended up taking questions in the hall outside.
Then the opening ceremonies started and Abe and Maui succesfully hijacked it. It was the first and last time the team I registered actually came together. 3/4 of us are PGA authors, 3/4 are hosting panels, 3/4 of us were in the radio play. I ended up with most of Montreal being on my team at one point. My team did pretty good, we ended up being in 2nd.

I only had one question for Greg W at blue mug a guest, which wasnt as blue as NYC. (Some of you are very imaginative and/or perverted. God Bless!)Then Whitbourne and I snuck out for a drink. He was witness to the horrible verbal abortion that is my attempt at French. We talked about basically everything until O'Dark stupid.

Saturday: I was pretty busy with the olympics (I had to borrow from Arno's team, then I made her our hostage. I love you Cleo!!) SCA thingie, more olympics and then the radio play, then the banquet (I registered back when I had money...) then the masquerade. Somewhere in there I squeezed in looking at all the awesome art. You people rock.
Everyone seemed to like my Renassaince Hunter costume. I must confess that its actually recycled parts from a Star Wars fan movie I made. I spent a few minutes sewing red slashes on the mask. I figured Keith would get a kick out of it when he mentioned being trained in stage fencing. I got 3rd place, which was very exciting. I ended up yaking all night with Robert and Denis.

Sunday: As if I dont need my ego fed anymore than it was already. All of the PGA authors and artists got to sit behind tables and sign people's copies. I dont think alot of people had a chance to read as far as mine, so I made it through unharmed. We all got good seats for Keith's Q&A. That was awesome. A copy of the anthology was passed around for Keith, we all signed it. The closing ceremonies were exciting. I got Keith to sign my Platoon DVD. Syrth claimed me as her last minute Con Boyfriend. I got all psyched for Vegas. I found out that hideous 'Dark Fighter' backpack I found in Croatia sold at the auction for 46bucks or something crazy.

Robert aranged a laser tag trip that was beyond succesful. I dont think I've ever played with over 30 people, let alone over 30 exceptional garg fans! It was crazy. I had no idea how light Jade Griffon was. I had to toss her from room to room so the green team couldnt shoot her.

Half of us invaded Reubens after the game and they were great, letting us order food and be crazy weirdos even though they were about to close. Back at the hotel I fired some quick sketches into some books. Anything Rivendale tells you is a filthy lie. I ended up in Maui's room playing some insane singing game while drawing silly pics for Beedoo and Arno.

Monday: The end of the con always sucks. All of the cool people you got to meet are leaving, and you're only going to see them a year from now, if you're lucky. Sigh.

I ruined Wingless' tradition of nightmarish trips home. I pulled up front, he hopped in and I drove him to his house without incident. I crashed overnight in Ottawa and got back on tuesday around dinner time. I will now commence staring at the calendar for next years con.

I think it's funny how many people are posting now saying "I was at the con, but you don't know me because I was a lurker before and I'm too shy in person." That's basically me in a nutshell :) I used to post in this room fairly regularly, but that was years ago and I had different names then (OnyxStar or Callantha), so I doubt anyone knew who I was when I showed up on Friday!

Anyway, my name is Kaylle, and I played Fox in the radio play, and Argenta (the silver one <g>) in the masquerade. All in all we had a great time and I'm already scheming to find my way back next year...

BrooksBabe, I think I met you Saturday morning at the radio play auditions. Iirc, you, me, Annie, and a guy whose name escapes me were the first to show up.

I'm back from Montreal! The Gathering 2004 rocked! It was great to see so many familiar faces again, and a whole bunch of new ones as well. Everyone on con staff worked their butts off this past weekend, but even so I still got some time here and there to just catch up with old friends and make some new ones.

I'll start working on my big Gathering Diary in a few days, once I've had a chance to fully recover. But for now, I'll leave you with two things.

First... mark your calendars for DECEMBER 7, 2004, a date which will live in fandom history, when the first season of "Gargoyles" is released on DVD! The DVD will contain all 13 episodes of the first season, UNCUT, and the bonus features will include a commentary track on "Awakening" and a 15-minute documentary on The Gathering.

I'm a bit surprised that Greg permitted someone to ask him whether the Nick of "Gargoyles 2198" had an adopted ancestor, since it does skirt (at least) an original idea disguised as a question. Not as bad as asking him whether that adopted ancestor was the adopted child of Goliath and Elisa (that would obviously NEVER be permitted), but still very close at best.

I can't say that I'm that surprised that Greg would describe Margot like that (or that it would be likely to be edited out of the commentary).

Saw my tape of "Kingdom" today. I'm now three-fifths of the way through my "Summer Gargoyles Tape Review". A few comments.

I still think that it's a bit of a pity that they never had Xanatos seriously making an effort to find Goliath and Elisa for his own benefit (as his parting words strongly hinted) - he only stumbles upon them inadvertently in "Cloud Fathers". But he was a lot of fun in the episode as usual, with lines such as "Don't you hate it when people drop by unexpectedly?" and "Do I really need an excuse to have a good time in my own home?"

I was very glad that the gargoyles looked after Cagney; I certainly wouldn't have wanted to see Elisa coming home to find that her cat had starved to death in her absence. The scenes of Hudson petting Cagney (and admitting that he's no Bronx) were great. (I also rather liked the bit where Cagney arches his back at Maggie; he's evidently one of those cats who doesn't get along well with other cats, even Mutate ones.)

The biggie, of course, is Brooklyn being reluctant to become the leader of the clan, presumably because he's afraid that assuming that position would mean that Goliath isn't returning. (Even to the point where, although he knows that letting Xanatos know that Goliath and Elisa missing is highly inadvisable, he allows Talon to go ahead and do it.) Particular highlights here are when Hudson subtly gets him to visit the Labyrinth by mentioning Maggie, and when Hudson smiles a little after Brooklyn officially gives him the order to come to the Labyrinth with the rest of the clan. Not to mention how Brooklyn shows his ingenuity in slipping the key card to Maggie.

Fang makes a fun comic-relief villain, particularly when he's unsuccessfully attempting to open the laser gun container and Claw finally shows him the key card. Though the funniest bit (for me) remains the bit where Claw hides inside his wings. I still laugh at that one.

The show slips into a more "comedy cartoony" mode when Broadway's dealing with one of Xanatos's laser cannons and it starts swelling up. Fortunately, that sort of thing was an extreme rarity in the series.

My guess is that Nick (from "Heritage") has a kid (with who may not matter). That kid winds up being adopted by Goliath and Elisa. Greg eluded to this (in Ask Greg) as perhaps happening under sad or unfortunate circumstances. Probably because something happens to Nick, or Nick has to go somewhere and can't take the kid with him.

So now G&E have a kid. Nick's kid. What's his last name? Goliath doesn't have one (well... not a "normal" one) so he (Nick) is going to take Elisa's last name, Maza. Now he's Nick Maza. That's the family name he keeps and his subsequent children and children's children will take. This leads us down to the Nick Maza that we see in G2198. This is why he knows the Gargoyles and cares enough to risk his life by working with them to save the world.

So that's my theory on the Nick from G2198 & G&E's adopted kid bits.

BB: Disney has _NO_ clue how this DVD is going to sell. It could break all Disney DVD records. Or it could sell 5. They simply don't know. So there's substantial risk here. That's probably made Disney a bit cautious with how much money they invest. There's probably some formula where they can at least say "we'll sell X number of copies, so we can spend X without losing money". That X becomes the budget for advertising and DVD production. I'm sure doing the Gathering documentary ate a bit out of the already small budget too.

It's got to be really tough to weigh the risk/reward for a budget on a product you're not sure how its going to sell. So maybe they error on the side of caution.

I made it home safe and somehow on-time despite being delayed out of all 3 airports! o.O

What a Gathering, what a great time! I have to visit Canada again soon! I hear jokes about "America-lite" and the 51st state all the time but it was really a pretty cool place :) Lots of history... the French thing was a little daunting at times but that's all part of the experience.

And DVD!! OMG!! DeeeVeeeDeee! I mean, we all knew it was coming but now it's REALLY coming!!

Todd: Greg said they had originally budgeted for Awakening part 1, 2, and Deadly Force for commentaries but thought it was silly to only do commentaries for parts 1 and 2 since we BARELY get to Manhattan by the end of 2 so he begged them to extend the budget to let them do 1-5, which they did. Unfortunately we lost Deadly Force as a commentary candidate as a result (but not for lack of trying on Greg's part).

I'll have pictures that I took up by tonight in at least a generic album format! :D

THANK YOU SO MUCH to EVERYONE who made the Clan Olympics a HUGELY AMAZINGLY GIGANTIC success. We will try uber hard to make it next year.

I had a blast, and I got to meet anew some people I've seen online for years, and I got to hook back up with some of my awesome friends. I got to meet gore!! ;)

anyways. Thanks to everyone who came out, everyone who signed my shirt, everyone who said "Gee Mau, thanks for doing the Clan Olympics!" and Everyone else as well for being awesome rockstars. ;)

Hey everyone! Writing to say that I made it back all right (and on the same day the con ended, and even though I wasn't able to stick around for the closing ceremonies, I was lucky enough to catch Keith in the restaurant and get his autograph!!!)
Anyways, most of you probably won't know who I am (as it was my first time Gathering, and I was so incredibly shy) but thanks to those of you who started conversations with me and made my experience that much better!
All in all, I had a blast, and hopefully I'll be able to go to the Gathering next year (yea that's right Greg, now I'm gonna have to come thanks to you :P)
Hope to talk to all you fans during the year so that next year I'll know people!!!

I find it ironic that I actually attended the Gathering for the first time before even posting here. So that makes me a double virgin :)

So hi everyone! If you didn't notice me at the convention (which wouldn't surprise me to honestly), I was the french guy taht was a bit shy, that played Lex in the Radio Play and got to miss all the cool stuff for lack of money and time (i.e. banquet, masquerade, adult mug-a-guest).

I'll say though that I had a great time, and that I hope to god I am able to attend next year. I finally got to put a few faces on the few poeple I had read about online, like Stormy (a fellow Transfan), Morgan, Gorebash, and most of all Greg and Keith!

Anyway, you might hear from me hear once in a while. One of my biggest regret at the con was that I had virtually no connection to anyone online prior to it, so that plus timidity made the con not as enjoyable as it could have been (not that people weren't welcoming on the contrary).

DVD commentary> Greg said that if they had let him make one for each episode, he would have included Keith David in each one, plus the VA for whichever main character the story was focused on. He lamented the fact that because they could only do "Awakening", he, Frank and Keith could only make general comments about the series, rather than discuss specific points about each episode . He believes the commentary you hear will be unedited, however, except perhaps for the line, "Margot is a bitch". ;)

Well, I got back okay, but airline travel was airline travel. So I'm going to invest in a rocket pack for next year.
Costumes kicked ass! I'm going to get a website so I post up all my pictures from the con.

I just got in. 1,516 miles driven. What a great con.

A huge thanks to Karine for putting together a great con staff and managing a great Gathering this year. It was a blast. I think I can easily say this con was as much fun as the first. I got to meet a TON of people this year. Last year I think I met 4 people, hah.

Unsung hero of the con: Carol Wagner. (I really hope I'm getting her name right. My memory SUCKS!) She's the "celebrity wrangler" of sorts. That's got to be one high-pressure position, especially with Keith getting held back a day while shooting a new movie in Miami. Carol: thank you, thank you very much for all your work.

Greg's on vacation through this week so that'll give me some time to tidy a few things up before he gets back. I have tomorrow off from work. I got some great suggestions at the con, and reinforcement that the multiple-posts per-page thing is REALLY top on the list of things people want to see.

tonight I'm going to rest. the 12 hours driving has wracked me.

Hey, everyone else who attended the con, be sure to at least post a quick "i made it home" to the CR, so we all know everyone got back safely. Especially the lady from Austrailia. WHOLLY COW! That's a fan. Comming from Austrailia to make the con?! AND Denis! DENIS! How many cons have you made it too? And from Europe no less (Germany... right? that whole French thing's thrown me off) Damn. That's devotion.

Considering that I was fully expecting the "no commentary" option (more because I didn't think Disney would consider doing it than any lack of interest from cast and crew), commentary on "Awakening" is wonderful news. Much as I'd love commentary on every episode, we do at least have Greg's rambles to give us insight into the creative process on "Gargoyles".

Disney really seems to be putting some effort into this release. Heck, even the Batman: TAS DVD only has commentary on two episodes. I hope this bodes well for the release of the rest of the series and some other Disney Afternoon shows, sales permitting.

The Jetix block would be a good spot for a "Gargoyles" return, though it doesn't get as much exposure as something like a spot on ABC. Another possibility would be releasing it direct-to-DVD in nice managable chunks.

For a while I hadn't thought I'd be able to make the con, but I'm glad I did. It was fun to spot a few people from the CR I'd never seen before (Lord Sloth, CKoyote, Leo), as well as some old friends. Lots of con virgins, too (I counted about 30 or so, out of the 200 or so fans attending the Opening Ceremonies). Very cool costumes, too, especially the Renaissance Hunter, Echidna, Ophilia, and what I've heard dubbed as the "fur-goyle". I took plenty of notes, so my Gathering diary may take a while to finish. In the meantime, I put all the DVD news I had up on GNC.

Also, there was a surprise revelation at Greg's mug-a-guest that I'm not sure anyone but me and Gore understood. But I'll leave that to him to reveal....

PHIL - Dragon Booster certainly sounds interesting (almost like a bizarre wedding between Arthurian legend and Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series).

Watched my tape of "Heritage" this afternoon. This episode is of some interest to me, since it was the first one to bring non-Western mythology into "Gargoyles" (totem poles, Raven, Grandmother, the Thunderbird, etc.). I wasn't quite as familiar with that as I was with Macbeth, Puck, or King Arthur, though I did know a little about Raven and the Thunderbird. (I'd never heard of the Haida - whom Natsilane is a member of - before the episode aired, however - or about Grandmother, at least, not under that name.)

One thing that stood out to me this time that I saw "Heritage" was that it gets in more insight into gargoyle character, through Goliath's world-view. He shows a little bitterness still when he says, in response to Grandmother's comment that she's glad that gargoyles still thrive, "We live. We do not thrive." But he agrees with the notion of "Raven's clan" protecting the village that supposedly killed most of their kind, in spite of the human hostility, due to his beliefs in protecting, no matter what. (Another nice touch comes when Raven says "I can see that you have lived this truth.") And we have his talk with Angela afterwards about how humans can hate and fear gargoyles in spite of the fact that gargoyles protect them.

Goliath and Angela might initially be taken in by Raven, but Bronx isn't. He growls suspiciously at Raven all the while, including the meeting with his faux-clan at the volcano.

This time around, I thought that Grandmother's sea monster form looked a bit like a zeuglodon (a prehistoric whale). Afterwards, I reread Greg Weisman's ramble over the episode and noticed that he was thinking the same thing.

As somebody commented a few years ago, Natsilane's outfit while battling Raven seemed more appropriate for a Great Plains tribe than a Pacific Northwest tribe.

Raven's a fun villain, with all the witticisms that you expect from a trickster. "It's so messy." "You know my address." "What is this, merit badge night? Oh, well, better make certain that it's an uneven fight." "This place no longer amuses me."

Other high points for me:

Elisa talks about wanting to order a big hot dog as soon as she gets back to New York. Bronx barks eagerly, and she changes it to two big hot dogs. (Bronx encountering a hot dog vendor, incidentally, would be a lot of fun to see.)

The look on Natsilane's face when Grandmother explains about curing Elisa with tree roots and bark.

Bronx saving Elisa from the bear, and poking his head out of the bush afterwards with a triumphant smile on his face - followed closely afterwards by Goliath and Elisa's big hug.

Raven pausing for a moment during the spell he's using to bring the totem beasts to life, as if he's making it up as he goes along.

Quite a fun episode, all in all.

This probably isn't a good time to start a discussion, since it will soon be buried by Gathering journals, but here goes.

For a long time, my hopes for a 'Gargoyles' revival were hampered by the fact that even if the show were produced, there was no place for it to air. The Disney Afternoon syndication block was long gone. Toon Disney had no original programming. ABC Saturday morning only shows imports from the Disney Channel. And the Disney Channel seems to be aimed directly at pre-teen girls.

But now ABC Family and Toon Disney have Jetix, a block of action/adventure cartoons aimed at boys. This is where 'Gargoyles' reruns are being aired now. Sadly, because Disney Television Animation has long neglected this demographic, Jetix is made up of Power Rangers, anime (Digimon, Beyblade), and old shows from other producers (Spiderman, X-Men). This fall Disney Television Animation is producing "Super Monkey Robot Team Hyperforce Go" and "American Dragon" for Jetix. I think that Jetix would be the perfect place (and really the only place) to broadcast a Gargoyles revival or spin-off. What do you think?


On a related note, this fall Jetix will also be premiering a new show called 'Dragon Booster' produced by Alliance Atlantis. Here's the scoop:
"DRAGON BOOSTER is a computer-animated series set in mythic times where man and dragons co-exist. Artha Penn is a reluctant hero chosen as a teammate by the world's fastest dragon, Beau, to compete in the elite dragon races. They are pursued by Moordryd, who wants to capture the dragon and use his powers to control the world. Beau and Artha run deep into the underbelly of Dragon City where Artha lives two lives: street racing by day and, disguised as the mythical hero Dragon Booster, seeks justice by night to protect humankind. The Alliance Atlantis adventure has a TV-Y-7 parental guide."
Some of those names have a familiar ring to them, don't they, Todd?

My Gathering experience rocked, I scored a discount on my T-shirt, bought a copy of the Phoenix Gate Anthology, watched most of Season 1 up in the Con Suite. The part that I guess that I have to come to terms with is the fact I lost my program in the attempt of getting Keith David to sign it. I mean Greg signed it, but I would have loved both of them to do so. If Keith has or not, depends on who-ever I gave it to on Saturday mailing it back to me. Not to worry my address is on the back cover.
