Todd>Several witnesses said it had bat-like wings. Usually connected to it's sides (ala Lexington). So I do wonder the same thing. IMO, a chupacabra in the Gargoyles universe would perhaps be a vampire/gargoyle. Perhaps it is bad, perhaps not. But I would be interested in seeing that myself.

SIREN - That makes me wonder what role the Chupacabra would have in the Gargoyles Universe (given Greg's attitude of "with enough time and episodes, everything will get in, as long as it's in the public domain", I'm certain that it would show up at some point). Would it be a gargoyle, or something else? Pity that we'll probably never know.

Dammit! Goliath was here and I missed him! :P
Actually years ago, I was walking out of my house one night when I heard that same "swoop" sound on the show that the gargoyle make. lol

I just remembered something else...

Anyone watch Animal X on Animal Planet a few weeks ago? They talked about Chupacabra and one cryptozoologist says he believed Chupacabra is a living gargoyle. And that stone gargoyles were created to scare off peasents. I had always heard the gargoyles were created to scare of Satan. But anyways, try to catch that episode if you can.

What could be strong enough to make claw marks in solid pavement?

Recently I started taking up bike riding and with that, I notice the little things around me. I had to stop and snap some pictures of these "claw marks" in the street for fun. Perhaps evidence of gargoyles in Florida? ;) My foot is a size 8, put it there to show off the length of the marks. There are two sets, right next to eachother...almost like something landed there....Hmmmm

Avalon>> Yes, it's the end of one plot thread (the Wyrd Sisters and the artifacts) and the start of another.

I mentioned this earlier, but was swallowed in spam... how would you feel if the "Hunter's Moon" sequence was released as a movie?

count me as one of those who likes that Greg wants to put Avalon at the end of a release, not the beginning... i totally agree that it is one of the best cliffhanger episodes in the series (not within a multiparter) and its nice to put a cliffhanger at the end, not the beginning...

I like ending one DVD with "Avalon 3", because it makes a great cliffhanger. Ending with "The Price" really doesn't keep people wanting more- it just sort of stops, and people might not even realize there was more on the way. However, ending a DVD release with "Avalon does not take you where you want to go, Avalon sends you where you need to be." "What does he mean- where we need to be?" Find out on the next DVD! I think it's better because it makes people more likely to buy the next set.

As for extras- I don't care that much about bonuses except for commentary. However, one thing that would be nice was if they put some of the budget into- I don't know, ADVERTISING the DVD's. Yeah, that'd be a great Easter Egg.

I have to admit that I do not care for Gerg's ordering. I feel that "Avalon" is that start of the world tour, and it should be with those episodes. However, like Greg, I will take What I get.

LotP-The Price (20 eps); Avalon - Eye of the Storm (16 eps); New Olympians - HM III (16 eps).

This is the way I like it, but I know Greg will have his own ideas as well...

FAN COMMENTARY> Did someone actually suggest this? What I said was that I think the fans should pick an episode or two to have Greg do commentary for.

That is all I will say.

Great news on the Season 2 DVDs. Greg's order puzzled me a bit. I guess he's switching "Possession" and "The Reckoning" around in the order? A 'Special Edition' version of "Hunter's Moon" could be very interesting, if that's the logic behind releasing it on its own.

Last Three Episodes on the Last Release>> Why would Greg W. want only the last three episodes, you ask?
Because they form a short movie together, I'd wager.

why does Greg only want three episodes on that final release?

and speaking of those last three episodes, if theres one thing i could see in the Season II DVDs it would be the addition of the deleted scenes into Hunter's Moon. it would be expensive to animate and rehire the voiceactors, but it would be the coolest thing they could add, in my opinion. i mean think of it! all new material!

Greg just printed a brief ramble about the upcoming Season Two DVD at "Ask Greg". He didn't reveal very much, just that, yes, Disney is making a Season Two DVD, he'll most likely be involved in its making, and the episodes will be in order, but he hasn't found out anything else about it yet, including which episodes will be on it or what extras there will be.

I'd vote against the fan commentary concept, simply because I don't see the point of it. Commentaries by the people who made "Gargoyles" (such as Greg Weisman, Frank Paur, the voice actors, etc.) strike me as more likely to be informative than just commentaries by people who'd only watched it and won't have as much to contribute in the way of "behind-the-scenes" information (which is, for me, the whole point of commentaries in the first place).

I also will confess that I don't see how "topic commentaries" can be done as opposed to "episode commentaries"; what would you incorporate the "topic commentaries" into, for one thing?

Todd Jensen

I don't really care how the episodes are divided on disc, but if they do release in two parts, I'd think they should break after Avalon, Part 3 so they end with a lead-up and a introduction of a new character, and then you jump right into the world tour in the second part.

As for commentary, I think CoS, Hunter's Moon, The Gathering, and Avalon would be best to recieve it.
I also think it would be interesting to have Greg do a commentary on topics rather than episodes. One on how time travel works and the discovery of the surviving clans. Maybe one on Oberon's Children and Gargoyle biology, too.
On a similar note, how about fan commentary? We could email our own psuedo-monologues and they could splice them all in together as subtitles. What do you guys think?

Matt> I don't know.... if that's an official news site, then why do they reference the Station 8 comment room as source of the news? No, I don't think they know more than we do over here - so the absence of a 'DVD split' information there doesn't really hold any importance, I'd say. But thanks for the link, I'll keep watching that page.

Presumably, putting the episodes into chronological order in the DVD is not a difficult task. It's also typically the norm from what I've seen of other TV to DVD sets. Just about every show has had episodes that were produced out of sequence for one reason or another.

Episodes Out of order: This was a problem in Canada for certain. I fought with Family channel up here to get them to understand that the series had a continuing storyline that required the episodes to be aired in the correct order. Season 1 was produced in the correct order-while season 2 was not. The production order and the proper ep order were 2 different things as we know.(for instance, the City of Stone 4 parter were produced as eps 14-17-thus airing right after season one-which is wrong. Garg Fan Website has that listing with the 2 different number sequences. I did finally get Family channel to listen, but then they pulled the show shorlty after. It's been August 2001 since Gargs aired in Canada-and yes they did air unedited and without commercials. The correct sequence order of the episodes is the most crucial aspect of season 2.
My votes are for as many commentaries as they can give us. The different animation clips(such as the different ending of "Vows" and the uncorrected ending of "The Gathering-Part 2" where Owen transforms into Puck for the first time). Also the broadcast commercial bumpers, some stills and sketches if possible. Also-an absolute must for me would be as much of the Carl Johnson Soundtrack as possible-I'll take it all!

Gee, I don't want too much now do I? "Fan" isn't short for "Fanatic" for nothin' folks :-)

As far as the episodes being split up on the DVD -- a bigger concern is that they be put in the correct ORDER. Wonder if the production staff on the DVD realizes that the production order on the eps is not the same as the chronological order?

Seems like an obvious thing, but when the episodes were ORIGINALLY aired, they were AIRED out of order! Which led to people going, "Why does Owen have a stone hand?" because he was running around with a stone hand before we saw how that happened. Problem turned out to be that the episodes have production numbers (the order they were made) that doesn't coincide with the actual chronological order they SHOULD be seen in.

I sent Chad a link to the Meet The Pros chat transcript from several years ago; figured what-the-hey if he can use it, he's welcome to it.

Re: fanfic -- there's actually some precedent for a copyright owner making fanfic legit and publishing it. Eric Flint, a rather successful writer, has published an anthology of fanfiction recently set in his 163X world -- the publisher was Baen, one of the big-name SF publishers. So the legal hurdles to publishing fanfic CAN be surmounted. I suggested if he wants to include some original content, he might include either some of the fandom's better fanfic or have a fanfic contest ... ditto for fanart ... *shrug* I didn't name anyone's names, just made a general suggestion. Figured what could it hurt? *grin*

Personally, I don't care how they're split up as long as it comes out. Even if they split it up three ways, thats fine with me. Just as long as they retain the pristene quality of the original cells and have enough room for whatever bonus material is included, I'll be happy.

I think we should all (Lurkers too!) agree on a "set" of episodes and features that we would like to see, and we could then submit that to Chad (make it easier for him). So, furst of all, lets agree on commentary. We all know we want CoS and HM, but what others?

The Mirror, Vows, Upgrade, The Price, Avalon 1-3, MIA, The Green, Bushido, Pendragon, I'll met by moonlight, Future Tense, The Gathering 1-2, Possesion, The Reckoning, Other (specify).

Rank your top eight, and we can then pare that down. (1=most wanted)

Mine are: 1. Avalon 1-3 2. The Mirror 3. Future Tense 4. Pendragon 5. Ill met 6. The Reckoning 7. The Gathering 8. The Price

That is all I will say.

Well, DIsk one would end with Eye of the Beholder, Disk 2 would begin with Vows.

Disk Three would begin with Avalon Part One

Jetfire> Canadian eh? Me too.

Personally, I just want it all. Having been too young when I originally saw (some of) the episodes to clearly remember them, I could care less which DVD is divided where, so long as said DVD, and all following, are in chronological episode order.

As for the Gathering: I was seriously considering it, but decided to head to CyberCon in NYC (I'm going to get Peter Cullen's autograph!).

Maybe next year... if flights to LAX out of Pearson aren't so damned expensive.

I don't care where the split between DVD #1 and DVD #2 lands in the list as long as all the episodes are there. Any DVD is going to be a vast improvement over my current "taped off of Toon Disney on VHS" collection.

I've finally booked my plane ticket for July. There's one more thing checked off the to-do list.

Season 3

I'd like it released, I'd buy it. Of course, I haven't seen all of it, missed a whole bunch of episodes, so that's mainly why I'd like it. And sure, completion plays a factor as well. When I lend the series out, if the friend likes the series enough that they get to the end of Season 2, I'll simply tell them that Season 3 is optional; that it's not the intended ending, wasn't written by Greg Weisman, but they can watch it if they like and make up their own mind about it. Some people might want closure, however contrived, and Season 3 offers that somewhat, from what I remember.

I just emailed Chad with my suggestions. If anyone is looking at suggestions that other people have sent to him and are thinking of not emailing him with your wishlist because everything on it has already been suggested, I would say go ahead and send it anyway. If 200 people tell him that they'd like to see concept art or Hunter's Moon commentary, for example, I would think that these suggestions would have a better chance of making it to the release.

As much as we all... disliked... Season 3, I think it'd be nice to have it come out on DVD. If only to be able to own all threes seasons.

Imagine, your favourite show comes out on DVD, but because one season was really bad, fans asked for it not to be released (or for some other reason it doesn't get released). Wouldn't that be a little aggrivating?

I think it would be, but that's just my opinion.

Dude, they'll both be on DVD. Does it really matter if they're on seperate disks? As long as the episodes are all on DVD in order, and looking good it's fine.

<<How did we politely tell the folks in charge that aside from "The Journy", we really don't want to see any of Gargoyles Season 3 stuff released on dvd?>>

I actually talked to Greg about this a few months ago after the first DVD came out, and well, there is almost no chance this will happen.

I'm working on my suggestion list for Chad, but ran into a snag on priorities for commentary.

The 1st two are easy enough: #1 has to be all parts of CoS and #2 has to be all parts of Hunter's Moon. It's a toss-up for #3-4. I can't quite decide where to rank all parts of Avalon vs all parts of The Gathering.

The minor detail that bothers me is how they split episodes up on dvds. My collection of Gargoyles tapes has eye of the beholder on my tape and vows on another. I don't want to see that same kind of mistake made on the dvd release.

* * *

How did we politely tell the folks in charge that aside from "The Journy", we really don't want to see any of Gargoyles Season 3 stuff released on dvd?

Its not one of the default servers included in the list. You have to add it yourself. When you bring up the prompt where you pick a server to connect to, click on the add button next to the pull-down menu. Give the server a name, and then fill in the rest. If you need any hints, pick any server on the list that is already there and click on the edit button to see where everything goes. Then when you're connected to the server, use the /join command to join to the channel.

(For those that don't know, the syntax is "/join #channel" where "channel" is the channel you want to join...without the quotes obviously. This is also how you make your own channels. A channel is kinda like a room in a building where a group of people can discuss whatever they like.)

While I'd really like to hear straight from Greg that Disney is deifnitely going ahead with Season 2 (Confirmation that Chad is legit is good, but not quite the same thing), this does indeed seem like very good news.

Filming at the Gathering> The only thing I'd caution about is that it should be suffieciently different from the Gathering featurette on the Season 1 disc. My impression is that a lot of Gathering events do repeat from year to year, so we don't want any new footage to just provide the exact same info aside from confirming that the Gathering is not always held in Canada. Some fan interviews would be nice, but any talk about fanfics and fanart would be a bit risky for anyone who wants to stay under Disney's legal radar. I also think the first priority should be interviews with the cast and crew, preferably people we didn't hear from on the Season 1 disc. Much as I like the fan community here, I wouldn't want to see a DVD where the interviews were entirely with fans. The feeling would probably be even stronger if I wasn't already very into the show.

Has anyone suggested the possibility of putting "The Journey" in with Season 2?

3oh!5 Creative is a company that, among other things, produces bonus features for DVDs. Just a thought here, but maybe someone from the con staff should suggest to Chad that someone from his company attend The Gathering 2005. There'd be no better place to go to get some live input from the fans.

When I looked up 3oh5.com, and saw that they had Disney DVD production stuff as their "showcase", I knew it was legit. Disney would go to the place where they know what they'll get.

Now I hope (and pray and pray and pray) that we can get a commentary (a la "The Simpsons") by someone on every single episode. I don't care if it's the janitor of the Disney Animation building who saw some scrapped drawings. I don't care if it's a fan. But all I ask is a Greg commentary on CoS, Hunters' Moon, and more. And to find out what Titania said to Fox :) I'll never give up on that one.

Maybe Greg should have it put on his grave. Or auction it off for charity (like Carly Simon did when she auctioned who "You're So Vain" was about to the president of NBC).

Hi everyone,
My name's Chad Kultgen. I'm involved with producing some components of the Gargoyles Season II DVD and I'm doing a little research for a potential bonus feature.

Nothing's set just yet, but we're thinking about doing some fan interviews and possibly some mini-documentary type pieces with fans potentially displaying some of their favorite Gargoyles memorabilia, etc.

As I said, this is all very tentative at the moment, but I'm just trying to get an idea of how viable the production of such a piece of bonus material would be.

We would be looking for someone who lives in the Los Angeles area. If you or someone you know is a huge Gargoyles fan in Los Angeles, please feel free to shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks,
Chad Kultgen

Thanks for telling us, Greg! So that means that Disney really is coming out with the Season Two DVD.

The two questions that I'd still really like to have answered (but we'll probably find out when the time is right) are:

1. When is it coming out?

2. Will it be the whole Season Two or just the first half?

It seems to me that having the spin-offs' pitch materials on the DVDs would be something Greg Weisman would WANT. I mean their presence could only help that small chance of Gargoyles coming back in some form some day. If diehard fans/casual fans/new viewers were able to SEE what could've been...I imagine some would be motivated enough to get some sort of petition started, a fan campaign or whatnot. I'm not sure if there'd be enough of us to get Disney's attention, even with whatever few new recruits the DVDs bring in...If a fan effort would even be worth the time and whatever cash necessary (even if only stamps for some letters). But I believe the demo reel and what was produced for the other two spin-offs could only help the franchise. I understand Greg wanting to have some "exclusive"-y stuff for The Gathering, but it'd be cool of him to share it all with those of us who can't make it or so far haven't been able to.
