My Top five episodes (counting multi-parters as one episode)...

5. The Price (great commentary on immortality)
4. City of Stone (what fosters betrayal in lifekind?)
3. The Gathering (technology meets divinity)
2. The Green (appeals to the environmentalist in me)
1. Long Way to Morning (the insomniac's solace)

I can't wait until Gargoyles Season Two, Volume One on DVD comes out on Tuesday, December 6 and about 43 days left. When will Gargoyles Season Two, Volume Two on DVD be out? Everyone should write reviews at Amazon.com for Gargoyles Season Two, Volume One on DVD to make it to 100 reviews the goal.
Jonny Modlin - [mmodlin@optonline.net]
Jonathan M. Modlin

Wow, this is hard! Although leaving out multiparters makes it a little easier to pick...

5. Double Jeopardy
4. Deadly Force
3. Sanctuary
2. The Mirror
1. Vows (and I'm with Wingless, I liked the original ending best! Somehow it's just more aesthetically pleasing or something.)

I feel like Future Tense should be on that list somewhere too, but they didn't include it in the first airing in my city, so although I saw it later and really liked it, it always feels like an amendment to me or something. The same is true of Shadows of the Past... Bah syndication and local channels who show things out of order!

Kaylle - [kaylle at ladyavalon dot com]

Matt: Nope. I've never even heard of that one. I was thinking of Pink Floyd's "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict." The song itself is as weird as the title.
Harvester of Eyes - [Minstrel75@gmail.com]
"If God were a villain... he'd be me." -Charles Dance in "Last Action Hero."

Top 5? Hmm ..
In no particular order:
The Mirror
Future Tense
City of Stone
Enter Macbeth
Awakenings

Chameleon may change her spots, but she refuses to do plaid

Ed> A single parter rule did not appear to be expressly specified and a couple of us didn't use that, but most people are so that seems to be the way of things. I just look at something as an overall story, regardless of how long or short it took to tell, when looking at favorites.

If I had to look at just singles (as my original 2 and 3 were multiparters), my #4 and #5 would have to move up to slots #2 and #3. This would make #4 among single-parters to be "The Mirror" and #5 to probably be "Future Tense" by a small margin.

Shannon "Shan" Muir - [shanemuir@aol.com]

I don't know if these are my five definite favorite single-parters, but:

1. A Lighthouse in the Sea of Time - carries a great pro-literacy message, and probably the best treatment of Arthurian elements that I've yet seen in television animation.

2. Metamorphosis - for the ending, depicting Elisa's discovery of her brother's fate and her response to it.

3. The Price - Combines some of the most ingenious cases of "misleading the audience" with some great exploration of the characters of Hudson and Xanatos (and even of Owen).

4. Eye of the Storm - a fine wrap-up of the Eye of Odin arc, in a very appropriate way.

5. Shadows of the Past - an extremely atmospheric story.

Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

D. Taina> OK.

*Room's slightly buzzing now.*

Battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

We're not counting multi-parters, right? In which case...

5. "Shadows of the Past"
4. "Metamorphosis"
3. "Deadly Force"
2. "Kingdom"
1. "Vows"

Ed
The identity of the Official whose alleged responsibility for this hypothetical oversight has been the subject of recent discussion, is NOT shrouded in quite such impenetrable obscurity as certain previous disclosures may have led you to assume, but not to put too fine a point on it, the individual in question is, it may surprise you to learn, one whom you present interlocutor is in the habit of defining by means of the perpendicular pronoun.

Contemplating Battle Beast's inquiry about a Personal Top Five (which is very tough indeed!) I had to think not only which ones resonate with me the most personally but which were groundbreaking for animation as a whole, instead of simply good writing and animation, as good work is a hallmark of the GARGOYLES series in general:

5. A Lighthouse in the Sea of Time
4. Enter MacBeth
3. Hunter's Moon
2. City of Stone
1. Deadly Force

Shannon "Shan" Muir - [shanemuir@aol.com]
Shannon "Shan" Muir

Top Five...Lets See,

5. Eye Of The Storm
4. Vows(original ending)I just liked that animation, what can I say
3. The Price
2. The Mirror
1. Future Tense

Wait...I wanna pick more! Long Way Til Morning, Lighthouse In the Sea Of Time, Deadly Force, Reawakenings, Her Brothers Keeper, The Green(one I didn't initially like but has grown on me-no pun intended), M.I.A. All of those get honorable mention. Notice I dndn't mention any of the multi parters. all those are too good to mention in a mere top 5. Amazing how I haven't seen the show in years(except season one) and I can still remember the episodes pretty damn well. The DVD will change that. Weeee.

Speaking of Which. Looney Tunes Collection volume 3 comes out tuesday. Weeeeeee!

Wingless

Hi All!

Battle Beast: My Top 5
5: Possession
4: Hunter's Moon
3: Reawakening
2: Future Tense
1: The Mirror

And I think I agree with D. Taina: I like them all!

Bye All!

Jonathan
"The meek shall inherit the Earth - they'll all be buried in it."

Battle Beast: My top five would be...

5. The Mirror
4. High Noon
3. Awakening
2. Future Tense
1. Shadows of the Past

I think. I like all of them!

Oh yeah, and Battle Beast, PLEASE, add the http:// tag to your URL. Your link hasn't worked for as long as you've posted it here. :P

D. Taina
"Orday rewindum tapus!" - Gargoyles Interactive Board Game

might as well...

5. The Edge
4. High Noon
3. Possesion
2. The Green
1. Reawakening

that order might change if i thought about it a bit more. that was just from the top of my head. interesting (to me anyway) how i'm not a huge Coldstone fan and yet i love a lot of the episodes he is in. *shrugs*

hey Harvester, is the longest song title in history: "Standing outside a broken phone booth with money in my hand"? or were you thinking of something else? tahts the longest one i can think of.

Battle Beast: I love it! Here's my contribution:

5. Eye of the Beholder
4. Shadows of the Past
3. Double Jeopardy
2. Vows
1. Future Tense

Though in all fairness, I love just about any episode that has Demona in it. Plus, those are just my favorite single-part episodes. The multi-parters are another story.

Harvester of Eyes - [Minstrel75@gmail.com]
"When the world is running down, you make the best of what's still around." -From the Police's third album, and unless I'm mistaken, I do believe it's the 2nd longest song title in history (Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980).

I remember that. Then I tried to get people to post their top five favorite episodes and I got barely forty posts.

I would love to see a fan countdown of top five favorite episodes (like have apoll of some thing) like they with the the IMDB top 250. (but only top five or ten.)

My top five favs

5. The Reckoning
4. The Mirror
3. Future Tense
2. Long Way till morning
1. The Price

Battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

damn, its slow in here...

makes me remember some of our busier weeks. remember when Greg wanted our top five reasons we love Gargoyles and we were getting hundreds of posts. man, that was incredible! busiest week i've ever seen in here, i wonder how many different people posted something that week, probably several hundred, i remember that was the first time i ended up not reading a bunch of posts cuz it would've taken hours.

anyway, we can all go back to our silence now.

hmmm, apparently a lot of people have specific feelings about Gabriel that they can't explain, lol. maybe its because we only saw him in a couple episodes and didn't develop his character much...

welcome Kyra! have a cookie.
Gabriel was always one of my favorites as well. can't put my finger on why i like the guy so much, hes just neat.
makes me think about him a bit. i wonder how he felt about needing Goliath's help everytime the Avalon Clan comes under attack, must make him feel somewhat inadequate as a leader..

Hello, everyone. Long time reader, first time poster. For the record, no, this is not my real name, but a character I have created. It gives me limitless roleplay possibilities, so just bear with me for a while.

I've watched all the "Gargoyles" episodes repeatedly when they were on the Disney Afternoon, and now that they have appeared on Toon Disney and I have a DVR, my interest has resurged.

My favorite episode is "Long Way To Morning" and my favorite character is Gabriel of Avalon.

Kris, Zelda> THAT WAS OUT THIS WEEK??? DAMN! I wanted that! I guess I'll be buying it on Amazon as well. I used to be able to get even the rare releases at Future Shop, but it seems they've started to carry only the big Tuesday releases.

It sucks about Thundercats. I really wanted that set, but it was expensive. I couldn't belive HEMAN was so cheap! Warner Probably WON'T replace the disc.

The good thing about Disney is that if you register your DVD, they will replace it for free.

Battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

PATRICK - Yes, that's one of the big plotholes. And since the new production team didn't make any use of Greg Weisman's idea that the Illuminati were secretly backing the Quarrymen, I doubt that they could use Illuminati patronage for an explanation. (Not to mention that I doubt that even the Illuminati have *that* much influence.)

This is one big reason why I'm looking forward to the comic book next year - to see a fuller view of Greg's vision for the Quarrymen, to counteract the Goliath Chronicles distortion. We certainly need something like that.

Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

It sure strikes me as strange that anyone who dislikes gargoyles but wants to remain anonymous would choose to join an organization that's putting up billboards all over town and whose leader is constantly in the press. The real mystery of The Goliath Chronicles was how Castaway could remain a free man for so long when he was in charge of a group that was blatantly breaking the law night after night through acts of vandalism, trespass, destruction of property, and assault.

48 days left until Gargoyles Season 2, Volume 1 comes to DVD.

"Look, you're British, so scale it down a bit." - Eddie Izzard

Battle Beast >> I was eyeing the "He-Man Season 1 Part 1" set today as well while I was in HMV (was looking for the somewhat cheesy but enjoyable The Legend of Zelda complete series, y'know that cartoon that used to air as a part of the original Super Mario Brothers Super Show? Can't find the DVD anywhere though, so I guess it's an Amazon buy). I bought the "10 Best Episodes" release back in July and I want the season sets, but I wonder if I should just wait for a complete boxed series set. The spines of the season sets will combine to form an image, so it almost seems like they're banking on these selling well enough to put out a collector's set.

Financial reasons too. "I don't need all these cartoons RIGHT NOW, should wait and buy them later". Money should be saved for the Aeon Flux series set in November and Gargoyles in December, along with whatever live-action releases I might not be able to resist. And then there's an even better reason, and that's that screw-ups often happen on these TV-on-DVD sets (for example, bought Thundercats Season 1 Part 1 back in August and I've been waiting months for Warner Home Video to replace Disc 1, which contains an episode with no background music/sounds). So it's almost worthwhile to let others be the guinea pigs. Except with Gargoyles of course, when the sales matter so much and the show is (to me and I would guess most people here anyway) more important than other animated fare, then I'll buy the set the day of release even with the risk of defects.

I don't know if anyone here besides myself has seen "Ask Greg" yet today, but it includes an interesting comment (in reply to one of my questions) about the subtle visual differences between the Quarrymen and the Ku Klux Klan. It's of interest because of some of the earlier remarks here that the hoods ought to have scared off a lot of potential Quarrymen because of the KKK echoes; Greg said about that that Castaway himself was aware of the danger in that and therefore would want the Quarrymen hoods to look different from the KKK hoods (dark blue instead of white, "executioner hoods" rather than conical hoods); the result is that people who'd never even consider joining the KKK would still be willing to sign up for the Quarrymen.

(The hoods make sense in and of themselves, of course; I don't think that the Quarrymen want their true identities to be known, simply because - and I'll admit that I'm repeating myself here - they are carrying out vigilante activities. I'm certain that there are a number of members of the NYPD and Manhattan local government who don't want gargoyles around in the Big Apple, but who also don't approve of a bunch of citizens taking the law into their own hands and hunting down the gargoyles themselves rather than letting the Gargoyle Task Force do it - the same as with those members of the Gotham City Police Department who want Batman to leave the Joker and the rest of the Arkham Asylum crowd to them. I hope that we see just such an element in the Gargoyles comic book next year)
