The humans must pay.

I got my DVD at wal-mart last year, it was the only place in the area that had a copy (and only one to boot).

Purplegoldfish : Not as bad a procrastinator as I am. I *still* haven't finished mine. (I'll see if I can get it out by tomorrow).

I wonder if Patrick will be making Demona do another "Annie" impression on Monday, same as he did last year....

I jusr wrote my review for the upcoming season 2 release and that brings the total to a measily *32* reviews as opposed to the season 1 release having a grand total of *207* reviews on Amazon. We gotta do much better.

Whatever happenned to simplicity?

DVD> i found it at Best Buy in the tv-show or whatever section (don't know exactly what it is called) but they had 2-3 copies... and that was the first and only place i looked save Amazon so i'm surprised may of you had trouble finding it...

btw, i became an Uncle yesterday! i was in the waiting room watching "Gargoyles" on Toon Disney when she was born, so thats a good sign i suppose. my new niece has a good Shakespearean name too; Miranda. at least, i think thats Shakespeare, not much of a literature guy like several of you are, but i do know astronomy and one of the moons of Uranus is named Miranda, and since the other big moons of Uranus are named Titania, Oberon, Puck, Ariel, etc, i'm gonna assume the name Miranda was used in Shakespeare. anyone feel like educating me?

I found the DVD last year at Best Buy, but I had to hunt for it a little. It wasn't in the animation or Disney sections of the DVD area. It was in the sci-fi section.

2 days left until Gargoyles Season 2, Volume 1 comes to DVD.
27 days left to pre-register for The Gathering 2006 before the rates increase.

I think that IMDB should either drop the "Two Towers" bit from their "Gargoyles" section or explain just what the reference was, so as to settle the issue once and for all.
Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

SIREN> I asked that same question last year and got no replys. I would REALY like to know what the refernce is.

Greg Bishansky> IMDB> That isn't true at all. I've been triing for the better part of a year to submit the DVD details for Gargoyles and they still won't post it. I know trivia about a person listed in the database (my cousin's cousin, a good friend of mine) that is TRUE (DOB, birth place, age, husband, etc.) and they won't accept that either. I also know of trivia for movies filmed in my home city that is true and they won't post it. The IMDB is far from the WIKIPEDIA where ANYONE can edit ANYTHING.

HOWEVER, I have posted over 100 movie review links that they've accepted without fail.

So IMDB staff do deny stuff submitted.

TODD> Last year when I went to buy the DVD at wal-mart, the DISNEY REP was there and DIDN"T EVEN KNOW IT WAS COMMING OUT. Now, if the DISNEY REP donesn't even know about it, were in trouble! (I finally got it at my local Future Shop.)

Battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

Well, John Rhys-Davies was in both of those- maybe someone heard Gimli say something that reminded him of Macbeth. If so, though, I doubt it was intentional.
Jurgan - [jurgan6@yahoo.com]

SIREN> There is no ref. Problem with imdb is that anyone can post anything there. No ref at all.
Greg Bishansky

I just noticed IMDB's trivia on Gargoyles listed this:
"Referenced in: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers"

Huh? When did LOTR:TTT refer to Gargoyles????

Siren

Haha, why is it I always find my way back to this place when something big is about to happen? I first found this place last year about a month before the First season was released. Im not a creature of habbit, personally, so I had almost forgotten about this place. I got this urge...."Hey, I still have that Gargoyle site in my faves...lets see whats up!" And I come here to find that season two is finally going to see the light of day. Awsome! Is it because we made such an impact with last years purchases of season one? Or do you think Disney was planning on releasing it all along?

DEMONSKRYE - I know what you mean. I couldn't find the first Gargoyles DVD anywhere in the local Blockbuster's when I went in to buy it on December 7 last year, and in the end, I had to ask the guy at the desk to order a copy.

Ehrm, anyway, Vertigo- I just posted my amazon review yesterday (I'm such a procrastinator) and it showed up right away.

Purplegoldfish - [skydragonn@aol.com]

Well, I'm hoping it will actually be carried widely, but with Season One, I had to go through quite a few of my local stores on release day to find one that was carrying it and hadn't sold out of what stock they did order. When i did track it down, it was shelved in with various kiddie cartoons, NOT with the new releases for the week. So while I hope things are better this time, the track record for the day of release in my area is not great

December 3, 2005 - There are now just three days left to enter UD's Gargoyles Giveaway for your chance to win one of five copies of next week's three-disc box set of Disney's mid-'90s cult cartoon favorite. Right now, your odds of winning are about as good as your odds of finding this set at your local brick-and-mortar store.

DEMONSKRYE - I know of two names for Merlin's mother, though both obscure ones. The first is Aldan, which apparently comes from old Welsh writings on Merlin. The second (and less probable, I believe) is Matilda, the name that Edmund Spenser used for Merlin's mother in "The Faerie Queene". I'd say that "Aldan" sounds more probable, since the name Matilda is French in origin, and wouldn't have been likely to be found in Britain prior to 1066. (On the other hand, a lot of elements in the Arthurian legend, such as knights, jousting, and stone castles, wouldn't have been likely to be found in Britain prior to 1066 either.)
Todd Jensen
"Gargoyles" - did for monstrous-looking statues what "Watership Down" did for rabbits!

Matt - I phrased my question so that Greg Weisman wouldn't have to give away precise dates, since I had bet he wouldn't have his timeline handy. Instead, I wanted a general sense of what events occurred in what order. Right now, I want to give Greg Weisman a great big thank you for answering that question.

Furthermore, we can draw some conclusions from the vagueness, specifically on the comment on which event is the probably thing on my list. And it actually adds another relevent question: Did the Lost Race come into contact with Nokkar's race.

Now if I can work out another list of date unknown, but somehow relevant events where I can try to make the last member of the Lost Race dying as the earliest event.

Of course, I would prefer the Submit Button at Ask Greg to remain disabled for quite a few more months, at least until the Gathering 2004 journals are processed.

Speaking of recent Ask Greg questions, Todd, what was Merlin's mother's name anyway? I know I could just look it up, but I know I like it when people ask me questions in my areas of expertise. As long as it's not a queue of multiple hundreds of questions.

Aeon Flux> So what do we have today? Why it's a handy introduction to the animated "Aeon Flux" in easy to digest comic form! So Battle Beast, or any other curious parties, go check it out. A whopper of a question about the timeline is next in line at Ask Greg. But nay, that's not that important. 32 more questions at Ask Greg until the 1st Gathering 2004 journal gets to the top. Sadly, it's 180 more questions until the last Gathering 2004 journal gets to the top.

KJAY - Yep, it's creeped a lot of us out. Even spookier is the fact that Greg Weisman has written a couple of "The Batman" episodes that featured her (the ones about Ethan Bennett becoming Clayface); I wonder how it must have been for him. (I've found myself suspecting the possibility that one or two people discovering "Gargoyles" for the first time through the DVD coming out next week might immediately denounce Elisa as an Ellen Yin-ripoff. :) )

Just commenting to say I like this site. I've decided to go back and re-delve into the fancies of my youth (this show was the stuff when I was a younger girl).

Random speculation: Everyone's always asking about Lexington's sexuality, lol. When I first watched the series, for some reason, I always imagined him with Puck...(don't ask why an elementary aged kid would pair up two guys together for no apparent reason, I guess it was because they were both short and had pointy ears).

..Or a robot.

Guess I have to buy the comic.

Random person

I don't know how many f you guys are Hellboy fans, though it seems like a no-brainer property for crossover fandom with "Gargoyles". Well as you may or may not know, Hellboy is being developed into animation. Not a regular show; I think we're looking at 2 TV movie right now. But there's a blog up where the supervising director/supervising producer (who also worked on what would have been the "Atlantis" TV show) gives a few peeks at the process of making Hellboy animated. It's been up for a few weeks, so why am I mentioning it now? Because today, there's an early character design of Hellboy up by none other than Greg Guler! There are several other neat conept drawings too, like a Liz Sherman by one of my favorite comic artists, Mike Weiringo.

Aw crap

I'm wondering if you can help me out. I'm looking for a piece of Gargoyles fan art that was available online some time ago. It was a parody of the Beatles Abbey Road album cover-featuring Goliath, Brooklyn, Lex & Broadway instead of John, Paul, George & Ringo. Sadly I don't remember who the artist was, but it was very well done. If this is still available online anywhere. could someone please post the link for me. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Well, add us to the contest list, we're up and official. ^_^

MGC, with the help of Beuna Vista Home Entertainment, is giving away three copies of the Gargoyles Season Two Volume 1 DVDs, being released on December 9th, 2005! All artists will have SIX days only to draw any character or scene from the episodes on the DVD. Most Artistic and Most Creative will win copies of the DVD! There will also be a special, one time only "Admin's Choice" award to decide the winner of the third DVD - that entry will be selected by MGC admins.
Entrants must we willing to give us and BVHE their mailing addresses in order to receive their prize!
Because of the short time period, older entries are allowed, as long as they have never been entered in MGC before.
Still a strict PG-13 rating limit!
Voting will run from December 7th to December 9th, so be sure to check back and cast your vote!

The November topic, To Protect And Serve, is closed and will start voting on December 10th and run until the end of the month. The December Topic will be announced on December 10th, and will run until the end of JANUARY, giving artists a good 6 weeks to draw. February topic will run as normal.

Hope to see you all participate! Remember two of the awards are NOT giving for artistic merit, so even if you enter stick figures you have a chance! :) And we'll need all of you to vote in that short three day voting period.
Tell everyone you know, please! :)

HARVESTER - Yes, I'm glad that you liked that part (about the pseudo-Xanatos being mostly out of character; mostly, though he still had the quipster element down pat). And I've got to admit that I hadn't thought of connecting the Eyrie Pyramid to the Illuminati's logo (or if I had, I'd forgotten about it); good work on pointing that out.

Since today (as I mentioned earlier) is St. Andrew's Day, and thus significant to Scotland, I decided to watch "Enter Macbeth" on the first Gargoyles DVD (I chose it as the most Scottish one-parter in Season One, from my perspective; after all, it introduces Macbeth). One thing that really stood out to me was how strong the color was, particularly in contrast to my old tapes from a few years ago. This is one reason why I'm so delighted about the DVDs, and am eagerly anticipating the second one next week. (I'll most likely start by listening to "City of Stone" with the commentary on.)

Does anyone here know anyone who has yet to post a review on amazon.com? Now's the time to lean heavily upon them. ( ;

Todd: I read your "Future Tense" comments last night. It never struck my mind that one of the subtle hints dropped that the whole thing was a vision was the manner in which Xanatos crossed over into ludicrous, cartoonish super-villainy with the way in which he "took" Manhattan. One also wonders what the Illuminati Society would have to say about such a thing. Although, does the pyramid on top of the Eyrie Building remind anyone else of the society's emblem?

Anyway, the first time I watched it, I thought the whole thing was some sort of ratings gimmick, until Demona died. That's when I started to get suspicious (especially since I'd kept explaining the exact parameters of her's and MacBeth's spell to my brothers).

Re: Blog - The two big ones (both free) are LiveJournal and Blogspot. I've used both and I find Blogger a little more pleasant in the interface and easy to customize. Still, LiveJournal does have some fun features, like mood icons and a Friends list that lets you view all your friends' blog entries at once. Since both are free, I signed up for both to decide which I preferred. You may want to do the same.

Re: Malfoy screenshots - While it can be tough to find screenshots of a movie that's still in theaters, I "heard" that particular scene in Ebert and Roper's review of the film. (Their shows are available as podcasts, which I listen to when I go to the gym.) It's possible someone grabbed screenshots from that. Maybe try searching for Goblet of Fire and Ebert and Roper?

Re Aeon Flux - I know quite a few people who have seen the show and they still don't know what it's about. Peter Chung has a history of making animation in a particular style which makes little to no sense. His other works include Reign the Conquerer, a heavily fictionalized version of the life of Alexander the Great that showed on Adult Swim for a while; and a segment of the Animatrix, the one where a group of humans and one monkey create a "matrix" for a robot to try and convert it. Weirdly enough, he also animated the original intro for "Rugrats". Which does actually make sense.

Demonskrye
Becuase they are unforgivable.

BATTLEBEAST - Thanks. I had particular fun commenting on Taro being almost an inferior version of Xanatos. (Certainly his theme park scheme could have been planned better. I don't mean because the gargoyles escaped; I mean because it would have made more sense to have the press admitted when the gargoyles were waking up rather than when they were about to go to sleep!)

Jurgan> You're welcome. No hurry though - get classes done, THEN think about the comic. Oh, and if you like, you can do both a summary AND a review, for both are currently missing. As luck would have it, I have exactly one issue of the Marvel comicbook, and that's the one. I'd be glad to do a write-up on it, though it'll have to wait a few weeks until classes are done.

Jurgan - [jurgan6@yahoo.com]

After not reporting it in here for quite some time, I think Todd Jensen deserves to be praised again: His insightful reviews can now be read for all stories up to (and including) "The Gathering". So, now he even passed Greg W. in his rambles - for Greg didn't yet ramble about "The Gathering" at all :) Todd got 7 more episodes to go to the end of Season 2.....

Now, there's STILL the list of _six_ missing summaries for Season 2, plus another _seven_ from season 3, and I know people signed up for doing them. Let's see if we can get at least 2 or 3 summaries before Todd finishes his reviews.......

Oh, and one more thing: I'm desperately seeking somebody who'd sum up and review the 9th Marvel comic (The egg and I) - preferably before new comics will be getting out next year :)

Battle Beast said, re: ÆON FLUX...

"I saw that DVD set at Future Shop. Looks WAAAAY past cool. That some kinda Japanese thingy right?"

Actually it's a US cartoon. It was originally produced as a series of six or seven shorts for an animation anthology program on MTV called Liquid Television, back in the mid `90s when that network still had the balls to try something different (some of you may also remember The Maxx). Then a season of 10 full length episodes was ordered and that was it for the franchise until the live action film with Charlize Theron (out in theatres this week, no idea if it'll be quality, haven't heard much about it). Just in case you do decide to rent, buy, borrow, or steal it, I like to warn that it's a heavy sci-fi series and some episodes are VERY weird. Also, there's a bit of an S&M streak running through it in places. It's minor, just one of the lead character's many colorful/edgy personality traits, but it's there, in case that sorta thing bothers anyone. There're also personality modification machines, nasty spinal implant devices, and amputations. Great voice acting, very well-written, lotta episodes make you think (a few might just have you scratching your head, at least until you rewatch them and/or listen to the commentary).

And yeah, I noticed that about Future Shop (not having as many new releases or being as great as they used to be for DVDs). Maybe they've gotten so much competition from HMV and others that they're going back to focusing on computers, TVs, games, and other electronics (HMV is the best for TV-shows-on-DVD, IMO. Since partnering with Amazon.ca they've also lowered a lot of their prices, so they're not as ridiculously expensive anymore on many things. The only places you can find better selections are other online retailers).
