Ahh...and then I got a reply! Thanks :D .

Since it's just delayed I think I'll stick to B&N. That way not only do I get a discount, but I can keep tabs on the order and the warehouse's stock as well. I preordered Bad Guys quite awhile ago..so hopefully I'll still get it whenever it comes around. I don't -have- to get it the day it comes out...I just want to make sure I actually -get- it.

Hereticrick

ah...I scrolled down a bit further than the first time and found my answer...just delayed then....thank god.
Hereticrick

Hereticrick> Neither Clan Building Volume 2 nor Bad Guys has been released at retail yet. A few copies of CB vol. 2 were available as special advance copies at the San Diego Comic Con, but that's it so far. The Bad Guys trade is supposed to be shipping to comic shops this week; we should have final confirmation from Diamond's shipping list tomorrow if it hasn't been delayed. Although it was supposed to come out first, CB vol.2 is currently held up at customs and is expected to take a few more weeks to reach retailers

Barnes and Noble might still be able to get the trades for you (though it may be a little late to order Bad Guys and have it on release day if the current date holds.) I susually go with my local comic shop or a reliable online bookseller.

Hereticrick

Well, a month or two ago I preordered the second volume of Clan Building and the Bad Guys trade from Barnes and Noble. The date for Clan Building came and went and B&N never stocked any in their warehouse so I never got one. Today I went to both Amazon and SLG's site to see if I could get one there, but neither one had any in stock.

So, did they just print so few copies that the major retailers aren't carrying them and I missed out? Did they push back the publication date? If the former, will there be a second printing? Should I even bother with B&N or should I start looking elsewhere (I work at B&N, so if they will eventually get it, I'd just ass soon get it there).

Has anyone else run into this problem? Anyone have any info or advice?

TPBs: To maintain the patience, I'm enjoying the trailers that were released earlier this summer -- For Bad Guys in particular, one of the 'scenes' teased to us that I'm still excited for is the Yama/Matrix exchange where Yama cracks a smile . . .

I'm changing my Willy Wonka signature quote in honor of the continued saga of the trade paperbacks.

I hope it won't be delayed, though it's still possible, since almost every time the comic's release date was announced before, it would always get a last-minute one-week delay.
Todd Jensen

Antiyonder> I will consider it confirmed when it's on Diamond's list ( http://www.diamondcomics.com/shipping/newreleases.txt ) which will be updated at 2PM this Monday. So Monday, Aug 3rd we will know for sure what is coming out on Wednesday, Aug 5th. Look for Landon, myself or someone else to post the news (good or bad) Monday afternoon.

Just looking for a confirmation on the Bad Guys trade. Is it certainly going to come out on the 5th.

If yes, there are no delays for this trade?

Another good reason not to post the idea here: I've read that talking about your story idea with people before writing it can often destroy, or at least erode, the urge to write that story.

(I'm writing a series of novels myself - children's fantasy - but all that I'll say for now is that "Gargoyles" fans might like them. They're not a "Gargoyles" rip-off, of course, but I draw on a lot of the same legends as "Gargoyles" did: the Arthurian cycle, fairy legends, Norse mythology, even some Shakespeare. Not to mention that I also use the notion that time travelers can't change history because they were already there - which I came up with before "Gargoyles" aired, and which probably helped me understand the time loops in "Vows", "Avalon Part Two", and "M.I.A." all the more.)

Todd Jensen

@ Greg B: Ah, shame. I just secured the quipment for my project yesterday, in the end I decided to do the it bymyself. Who needs producers anyways *wanders into corner, mumbling*...

But if the project really REALLY really means a lot to you, try selling it in another country. Sounds dull, but I've heard some good things about, for example, Japan and Korea when it comes to foreign screenplays.

Personally, I'm very tight knit with what I do, but at some point, you just have to hand "them" out.

Personally, when I'm finished writing something, I put it into an envelope, register it (make sure they apply the stamp across the tape-sealed opening of the package) and send it to myself. This way, even if somebody plans to steal my ideas, I can always prove that they originated with me. In europe, registered mail is as good as a lawyer putting a seal onto it. :)

King Cobra> Had to point this out, generally speaking, if Warcrafter wrote a novel, it wouldn't be the best idea for him to post his idea here. For one, public forum, you never know who might steal the idea.

I'm writing a few screenplays. But, I would never post my ideas for them in a public place for that very reason. I've got a small circle of people I trust who I can share them with, who can and do provide me with much needed feedback. I am, indeed, grateful for that.

But, none of them will ever go public unless I am lucky enough to get those ideas sold and produced.

I would encourage Warcrafter to do the same.

Hey guys, figured with this being the last con and all, and potentially the last update of the fan-made video of the official-scripted "Team Atlantis-Gargoyles" crossover-episode "The Last" (was that enough hyphens for you?), I would give recruiting help here one more shot. There are currently fan-artists hard at work trying to clean up and color the official storyboards (the few that were done), or sketch/color new scenes using the official script and voice track as a guide. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in helping out with, send me an email. Don't be shy about your level of talent-- remember that the alternative is blank sections with no video and only voice track, so we're not being all that picky (although we do have some excellent artists helping out, there's only so much they can get done in time for the con).

Brook
I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

When *did* the phrase "slow boat to China" first originate, by the way? (And now I suppose we're in for another discussion like the "Why is it 'tastes like chicken' instead of 'tastes like beef' or 'tastes like turkey'?" one.)

I hope it won't be the *end* of the month. Maybe it'll come out on the 12th or the 19th. I hope so. I don't want to spend a long time struggling against the temptation to ask the people who bought copies at Comic Con about how the Stone of Destiny story ended.

On a lighter note, Greg Weisman mentioned a couple of days ago at "Ask Greg" being fond of "Great Expectations". One part of that story reminds me of "Gargoyles"; Magwitch's fellow convict turning out to be the man who left Miss Havisham standing at the altar so long ago. The first thing that popped into my head when I became reacquainted with that story a few years ago was "That sounds exactly like the kind of thing that would have happened on 'Gargoyles'!"

Todd Jensen

I'm sure Greg Weisman has heard about the delays and maybe he'll ask Dan Vado to FEDEX a couple copies to The Gathering.
Anthony Tini

"The slow boat from China" isn't just a catchy saying, you know. I'm guessing those books are coming freight inside a container with all sorts of other "made in China" items, and that's why it's going to be the end of the month. It'll be a shame, tough, if it takes until after the con... Greg Weisman has already autographed just about everything else. ;)

It should also be noted that using multiple printers at multiple locations is extremely common. Antarctic Press at any one time uses up to 6 different printers, stateside in San Antonio, in Houston, in canada, in china, and wherever else can provide a good quality and price. Marvel, who prints some 80 books a month plus countless trades, uses dozens of printers, some overseas. Multiple printers is EXTEMELY common.

Also, since SLG had advance copies done, it likely means that the entire run is finished at the printer, and they had a hundred shipped expediantley to the con at extra cost to themselves. The rest are no doubt on their way. Again, common practice.

(Incidentally, I saw a copy at the con and it printed pretty well, so I'm pleased about that.)

Robby Bevard

Printing overseas is VASTLY cheaper than printing stateside. Even after shipping time and cost, its still a huge money saver, especially if its in color.

I don't have numbers in front of me, but off the top of my head, printing 3,500 copies of a color book at a specific printer in China costs the same as printing 3,500 copies of a black and white book stateside.

Printing black and white overseas is not cost effective however, because the price difference there isn't significant enough to make up for the shipping cost. But color? Overseas is way cheaper.

There's also logistics about higher print runs make the per unit cost cheaper, etc. etc. I could go on a lecture all day about the ins and outs of the comic industry. But the short of it... printing color books overseas is way cheaper than printing them stateside, to the order of thousands of dollars.

Robby Bevard

I know this is kind of a long shot, but does anyone who ones Clan Building 2 live in Minnesota? Just seeing if we could get together so I could get a peek at CB2. thanks all.
Adam - [carl006_1999 at yahoo dot com]

@ Demonskrye: Sure, I just meant that an american company has their books printed in 2 other, different countries is a bit absurd when you think about it. From economical reasons, it's a lot cheaper, but if you really think about it... I mean, the time of the shipping alone takes so long, and it costs a lot and is STILL a lot cheaper than the american printing... that is, somehow, kinda absurd...
Brook
I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

Brook> "Absurd" is really not the word I would have used. I pulled three random books (not comics collections of graphic novels) off of my shelf and checked where they were printed. One was printed in the U.S., but the other two were manufactured in China and Singapore respectively. So it's entirely possible that printing, like so much other manufacturing, can be done cheaper in other countries under certain circumstances. Color and capacity concerns could certainly be issues as well. There may be printers who don't take print runs that are over or under certain sizes. Or maybe a printer closer to the U.S. couldn't be booked in time. But the idea that printing and binding a book would cost less in China doesn't really strike me as "absurd."
Demonskrye - [<---"Kiki's Delivery Service" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

@ L.T.: Surely something to consider.

What I wonder is how long exactly the "on the way" part will take...

Brook
I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

The thought crosses my mind that one book being black and white (which is less expensive, of course) and the other being full color might also have had something to do with where each was printed.
L.T. Williams

Besides printing costs (+ applicable shipping costs), it can also be a matter of capacity.
A company can only print a certain amount in a certain time and one also got to figure in that others might have ordered their stuff printed as well. Bad Guys might have a smaller printing run and have fitted that company's capacity or their might have been timing conflicts, etc, etc.

Afair, one of my country's publishers printed one comic at two different printing company since they couldn't get a printer who could do the complete run in the intended timeframe.

Anonymouse

The folks at SLG aren't idiots. I'm sure they had a good reason for choosing the printers that they chose.
Rebel

@ Wingless: Depends, but... well, it's a bit absurd...
Brook
I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

Battle Beast: the most likely reason for printing outside the US would be cost. Although, I figure that dealing with shipping costs these days would negate any savings with printing outside the US-but what do I know.
Wingless

So why is SLG printing in My country and China? Don't they have a printer in the US? And why not use ONE printer in ONE location?

I don't know, but if BG is out next week I'll be happy. I've waited this long (*SIGH*) got CBV2, so why not wait (*SIGH*) a little longer?

Battle Beast - [Canada]
That is all I will say.

Landon> Thanks. And thanks for indirectly reminding me that I wanted to start a discussion on Amazon about the delay so it doesn't discourage potential buyers when they look at the release date under the product details.
Anthony Tini

Here's one idea for folks that are itching to talk about Clan-Building volume 2: post a review on Amazon. Since it's no longer in pre-order mode, customers can add reviews. That'll help get the rating up as we approach the release date. You might want to mention that you got an advance copy at Comic-Con so people don't think you're lying or are a hack promoter or something. For the same reason, please do *not* review Bad Guys since no one has a copy yet. And I think a good review reveals a little plot without spoiling too much.

I must say, I am really sorry to hear about the delays. A friend of mine was at ComicCon this weekend and bought me a copy. And not only do I have no one in my off-line life to share it with, I actually feel bad that so few people in the world have gotten to see it.

Here's the link to what Demonskrye is referrring to -- the official answer to why there is no Clan Building Vol 2 this week. http://slg-news.livejournal.com/348078.html
Anthony Tini

I just got a response from SLG on their LiveJournal and apparently Clan Building Volume 2 is en route from China where it was printed. Bad Guys, for some reason, was printed in Canada and will thus be here sooner. They expect Clan Building will be out in stores by the end of the month.

As Greg B said, the copies at SDCC were advance copies and do not reflect the main stock being ready to go.

Demonskrye - [<---"Kiki's Delivery Service" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

The copies at Comic Con were Advance copies.

An advance copy, also known as an advance reading copy or ARC, is a copy of a book released by its publisher before the book has gone to press for a complete printing.

Obviously the mass production printing isn't ready yet. Probably will be very, very, soon.

I don't think there's much to worry or fret about. The book will come out when it comes out.

But I agree with Todd, it'd be nice if the conspiracy theories don't get out of hand. Actually, I'll go one further and say it'd be nice if there were no conspiracy theories, period.

Greg Bishansky - [<----- Gathering 2009]

ANTHONY TINI - Mochi suggested below that they had to send the second volume back to the printers for accidentally leaving out the credits for #9. Though it would be nice if we could get some official news from Slave Labor Graphics, before the conspiracy theories get completely out of hand.

Gorebash

I don't get it. What are these spoiler tags supposed to do? All it does is put "
" before the text, and then shows the text as normal. This is not an improvement over the make-shift spoiler warnings that people normally use (and in fact it might be worse, since the make-shift spoiler warnings seem to give more warning.

Is there something that everyone else is seeing that I'm not seeing?

Rebel

And in theory you don't have to wrap your whole post in spoiler tags.
You can just tag those little bits which are sensitive
. I suspect the [ spoiler ] tag will find other uses as well.
Such as self-censoring foul language or naughty bits.
Gorebash

Maybe I'll add more tags later. Maybe change how spoilers appear. Right now it's a simple case of it makes the text the same color as the background so you can't read it until you highlight it (unless you're on a text-base browser, in which case you're screwed). Let's see if that helps at all or if the room becomes a sea of red dots.

Delays > Im with all you guys. This is getting just the slightest bit annoying. We know that the trade is done or at the very least getting printed now because there were copies at Comic-Con. I have no idea how it long it takes to print up enough copies of a trade to send to stores but we have yet another ignored release date. *sigh* I know delays happen, especially in the comic world, but the Gargoyles string of bad luck with delays is the longest I have ever seen without seeing a full out cancellation of the series. I know that we are incredibly lucky that the trade was allowed to come out and that it was entirely possible for the comic to be put down without saying a word to us but its human nature to complain and point out the bad more than the good, ne?

AUDRA AND KING COBRA - I know what you mean. I hope that Diamond gives an official release date soon. Apparently the publishing world thrives on an "Alice in Wonderland" mentality.)

It certainly strengthens my theory, if even the attendees who live in San Diego are still recuperating. Think what it must be like for the ones who live on the East Coast, in that case!

I think that the people who bought the copies at Comic Con are respecting the request made last week to wait until the book's officially released in bookstores and comic stores before reviewing it.

PHOENICIAN - I've also been wondering still what the release date is, and whether it's being delayed until after "Bad Guys" is out for some mysterious reason. I had hoped that, when Greg Weisman responded to my comment about the YouTube trailer, he would say something about that, but he didn't; he only mentioned that the copies had sold well at the San Diego Comic Con. Maybe he doesn't know that we don't know when it's coming out.

So I just bought the first season of Spectacular Spider-Man -- and I gotta say, it was worth the wait . . . considering I was catching this season on my small college TV set and on YouTube when it was airing, to see it on DVD and in widescreen . . . (and here it comes d: ), well, it's spectacular.

Special features were definitely a joy to watch, and as one of those reviews that Landon posted pointed out -- leaves you wanting more -- but considering what they put in, I do think a decent chunk was put together. Just kinda wish I got the music video as well, which I guess is only in the Attack of the Lizard/Volume I set.

Here's hoping that we get a Season Two DVD quicker, especially since it doesn't seem like the individual releases will ever be movie-tailored compilations. And of course, here's hoping for a Season Three.

Now, any word if any comic shops will be getting Clan Building Volume II this week . . . doesn't seem like it from the lack of information, but you never know . . . .

While I don't want to get into another big issue, I do agree with Rebel on the vote. If you want to say "Since there isn't a huge majority that reflects a broad consensus, we're going to do x, y, and z instead of changing over to a message board," I'm fine with that. But if you say "It's essentially fifty/fifty," it kind of feels like you're just discounting ten or so people's votes, which I am not okay with. Ten people may not seem like a lot, but since just over 100 people total voted, it's a fairly significant percentage.

So is anything going to happen, or is the forum just going to stay exactly how it is?

Demonskrye - [<---"Kiki's Delivery Service" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

Kael> Sorry, I see you already have. Good luck with your search!
Anthony Tini

Maybe it would help if the CR had an on screen divider splitting up the separate days posts. That would be cool and provide some organization.

Kael> Since your post is kind of getting lost in the ether, you may have better luck here: http://www.gatheringofthegargoyles.com/forum/

There is a Room and Room Sharing forum there that may help you.

Anthony Tini

It wasn't 50/50. It was 60/40. Since roughly 100 people voted, that means approximately 60 people voted for a forum, and only 40 people voted for the CR. That means that the vote for a forum beat the vote for the CR by about 20 people, which is a very significant amount considering only about 100 people voted. If 1,000 people voted and "forum" only won by 20 votes, then I could see your point.

Demonskrye: About 100 votes. It's a near 50/50 split. It's not an obvious majority of something like 80/20 or 90/10 either way. That's about all the information I expected to get out of this informal poll. And who can complain anyways, the polling site I'm using is free. You get what you pay for.

Remember that we already have a Gargoyles forum here at http://gargoyles.freeforums.org/ for all your forum needs.

Gorebash

Well it's ultimately Gore's decision, but I'm going to be disappointed if we went through doing the vote for a couple of weeks and many of us did vote once in good faith and the final conclusion is "Whoopsee, turns out the system was flawed so the whole thing is invalid and we have to start over." If the system is indeed flawed to the point where it's clear that the vote is not accurate, it should have been brought up early on in the process, not weeks after the vote started.
Demonskrye - [<---"Kiki's Delivery Service" at The Ink and Pixel Club]

Actually, 61% isn't all that much of a lead; the Room is essentially split evenly. And when you take into account the faulty voting system, you can see why I'm not sure any conclusion has been made.

Did anyone at the Slave Labor Graphics booth say anything about the release dates at the convention?

Todd Jensen

Greetings freinds.
I am in the process of prepairing for the gathering, and I had several issues I wanted to enlist the help of those here with. First, I am saddened that this will be the final incarnation of te convention. But at the same time quite greatfull that I am able to attend. When I went to Chicago last year, I obviously didnt know what to expect, but when ti was over I couldnt remember the last time I had more fun.

Though regretable, I do understand the reason for ending it. Everything is granted a finite number of moments, before having to end.

Anyway, I wanted to make this Gathering a bit more memorable. 1. By creating several music videos for the contest. But I have never used video softwere, so was not quite sure what to do. I have several choices at a local best buy.
I wanted to use the song "Defender" by Manowar , found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9E2Lt-T09k
for a video about Goliath. When I heard it, it seemed perfect. The opening lines, spoken by Orsen Wells, feature words like "though weve never met, my only son" "and your mission lies ahead of you" to defend the helpless ones seemed ideal for Goliath.
As well as "The Crown and the Ring" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38BM2ExXbbA about Goliath, Xanatos, and Oberon. Three kings from the story. The lines "high and mighty and lonely are kings" spoke to me.

I was just wanting someones who might be familiar with the right softwere, how to cut clips etc. As well as perhaps choosing the rights scenes to fit the lyrics, I did have my own ideas.

Any one who might be able to help would be greatly appreciated, and I look forward to seeing everyone in LA.

And Tom had been given adult responsibilities when Princess Katharine appointed him "Guardian of the Eggs". That was depicted as almost like being dubbed a knight (especially with Katharine giving him the tap on the shoulder with the flat of her knife).

The scene reminded me of the end of "The Once and Future King" when King Arthur, on the eve of his final battle with Mordred, dubs his young page (also named Tom - Greg Weisman said that he was indeed influenced by White's work here) a knight and sends him away to keep the memory of Camelot alive. (This Tom grows up to be Sir Thomas Malory, author of "Le Morte d'Arthur", one of the leading works of Arthurian literature - which Arthur was even seen consulting in "Gargoyles #8".)

Todd Jensen

Re: Tom and Mary - Keep in mind that human life expectancy in the 10th century was about 35, and "childhood" (for males especially) did not last until age 18 to 20 like it does today. By the standards of the day, Tom was not very far off from being expected to work and start a family of his own. And those standards were still hundreds of years away from changing... as you can see if you read anything by Dickens.

Reposting this for the benefit of those who may not have seen it before the room rolled over:

We've just put some new stuff up on eBay and one of the pieces is an ORIGINAL page from "Bad Guys" by Karine Charlebois. In the past, this sort of thing has typically been available only in the silent auction at the convention. This is a chance for those who can't attend to have a shot at purchasing original comic book art.

The art is for page 24 of issue 4, "Louse", of the "Bad Guys" mini-series. It's done in ink on bristol board and measures 11"x17". It is signed by the artist. The page features all the characters of the Redemption Squad, and portrays the inclusion of Fang into the team, much to Dingo's shock and Yama's displeasure.

My "brilliant" plan to obtain Gargoyles #2 from Barnes and Noble on Saturday failed misserably. Anyway, I was looking at the unanswered questions this morning and one stuck out to me. One of the question asked was how could Mary just leave her son on Avalon like that. Although I can't answer that, I can give a similar experience from my own family. A somewhat distant relative (my dad's cousins husband) was born in Nazi Germany in 1937. After WWII, he and his mother lived in USSR controlled East Germany. When he was 9, his mother arranged for him to be smuggled out of Germany and sent to the US to live with relatives. She took him to the border between East and West Germany under the assumption that he was staying with relatives in West Germany (at the time, only one family member could cross the boarder for fear that everyone would leave). She brought him to the boarder knowing that she might never see her son again. That takes courage.

Here's also some details from Greg's Comic-Con panel: http://www.comicvine.com/news/comic-con-spectacular-spider-man-live-blog/138990/

I assume this is paraphrased from Greg: "Don't forget, Season 1 box set comes out on Tuesday. Buying that could help make Season 3 happen."

mochi haha neato. I should of gone to that pannel to support greg unfortunatly it was during something else I wanted to see. I'm not a big enough spiderman fan to support that show, however i support greg. hehe. I am waiting for the blue mug site to start up though hehe.

The true blood party was fun. Met the cast of heros at the heros after party *L* that was nuts.

Fifth~!!

I survived Comic-Con~!! Today, I went to the Spectacular Spider-Man panel. It was awesome! There were even a few Gargoyles fans in attendance (me included)!

I was able to record the entire panel with the exception of the footage presented on the big screens since that's not allowed. Would love to share it with everyone!

Phoenician >> Yes, they are coming out this week!
