Anonymous: We should also bear in mind that Demona needed a magic spell as part of her plan. That could have been one of the functions of the Fulfillment Spell. In bonding the DI-7 with the carrier virus, it could have created something that was highly selective. One of the few things I remember reading somewhere in ASK GREG is that the spell's function is to fulfill the spellcaster's desire.

-1st!

Demona doesn't remember Gillecomgain. He asked her point-blank if she remembered him and she responded to the effect of "I haven't the foggiest clue who you are." and it literally pissed him off!

Well, I'm off to UCLA tomorrow... going to view two films in their archive for my movie challenge... so untill then, chow!

Battle Beast - [Canada]
I have started a movie challenge whereby I am wtching all 475 Best Picture nominees and winners in 365 days. I am on Day #307 movie #355. Wish me luck!

It was Lex that found the tracer. Giving them just enough time to take cover.
Gargoyleslady - [kendal dot renfro at yahoo dot com]

Blaise: It must be quite a task to create a virus that would only attack one species, considering we are all connected.

Viruses that affect humans can affect other apes or monkeys, on its less extensive range.

To establish what the virus could have done or what threat represented for the gargoyles and other animals, we would need to know exactly how would it had affected humans in the first place.

Demona says "all inteligent life" or something like that, on her video (that Im sure she was planning to post on youtube when she was done and celebrating) and she knew gargoyles would be potentially affected. Our brains are the most complex and its our most specialized feature, so to speak. So maybe the virus would have attacked the brain. Considering Sevarius made the virus, he probably knows of something that makes our brains different than the rest of the animals. A characteristic posibly shared by other superiorlyy inteligent animals as gargoyles are.

Maybe it would have attacked our "unique species gene" (dont know how its technically called) and it wouldnt have affected gargoyles at all. Sevarius could have told Demona this, but she didnt believe him, and those the precautions she was taking.

****Blaise's disembodied head appears.**** Just a response/clarification.

GARGOYLESLADY> Goliath is not the most tech-minded of the clan--he probably wouldn't be able tell an insulated suit from a non-insulated one. Lex might have been able to, but his mind was more preoccupied with how cold-bloodedly Goliath (apparently) killed their foes.
As for the tracker...well, Goliath never was very good at noticing them (Xanatos did it to him TWICE). Gargoyles have thicker skin than humans, that might mean they don't have as much sensitivity as we do when it comes to touch.

MATT> Yeah, I pretty much figured all that (that the Children would be fine, etc.). I'm more interested in Demona's motivations. Why did she specify "disinfecting the planet of all intelligent life" instead of just "disinfecting the planet of the humans?" Did she just want to be thorough?

Until next time! ****Blaise's disembodied head increases in size until it pops like a balloon, vanishing in the process.****

"Some days you're the pigeon. Some days you're the statue."

What Goliath did not realize is that the Hunters' suits were insulated and that Robyn had planted a tracer.
Gargoyleslady - [kendal dot renfro at yahoo dot com]

Gargoyleslady> Yes, for the most part, but it isn't that Goliath wanted to forget about the DI-7 that Demona stole, he just didn't much care at the moment and said he'd worry about it later. He had a whole bunch of other things on his mind that were more important to him (Elisa and his relationship with her, Angela and her health, the killing of the two Hunter's and the idea to kill the third, the uncomfortable alliance with Demona and the old feelings that brought back, etc.). Demona's theft seemed trivial in comparison to other things, though obviously it was not.

Blaise> Well, the Children would've been alright. First of all, I'm not sure a disease could effect them and secondly, aside from Puck they were all on Avalon at that point and the virus couldn't reach them there. That is why Katherine and Tom would survive as well.
I believe someone asked Greg about who the virus would and wouldn't affect once. If I remember correctly, he said it would spread to New Olympus and kill most of them, but not all. The gargoyle clan there would be spared, of course, but depending on the ancestry of various Olympians, some might survive, but I can't imagine many would. How much protection would descent from a member of the Third Race and/or a non-sentient animal provide? Who knows.

Matt - [Saint Louis, Missouri, USA]

While we're on the subject of Hunter's Moon, in Hunter's Moon part two, Brooklyn did not want Goliath to forget about the tank of DI7 that Demona stole but Goliath was unconcerned about that. He just wanted to get home. The Hunters had paid for what they did to Angela (so he thinks).

What Goliath did not realize is that their suits were insulated and that Robyn had planted a tracer.

****A large golden dragon flies in through the skylight, with Blaise riding upon its back.**** I've been playing "Dragon Age: Origins" and figured I hadn't taken ol' Coren the dragon for a ride in a while.
Anyway...

"THE CAPE" KEITH DAVID INVTERVIEW> Thanks for the link, Landon, but I have a feeling that it spoils something that's meant to be a major plot twist in the premiere. So SPOILER WARNING for those who don't want to be spoiled.

GARGOYLESLADY> One more thing I would add:
You said: "DI7 can be bonded with a pathogen and cause a disease. A plague that could threaten the entire planet (exactly what Demona wants)."

Actually, they were talking about CV-1000. It is a "carrier virus" and can be bonded with an antigen (to create a cure as contagious as any disease), or a pathogen to cause a disease. Normally, it cannot be bonded with a disinfectant (DI7), but that's where the Fulfillment spell comes into play.

DEMONA'S "HUNTER'S MOON" PLAN> While writing this post, I began to examine Demona's plan and a few thoughts occurred to me:
1) She was very focused on "disinfecting" the planet. I mean, she had the carrier virus, she could have made a disease to wipe out humanity (and only humanity) with that alone. But no, she had to use sorcery to bond it with a disinfectant. I find myself wondering why that is. Did she believe that a virus was too uncontrollable--that it could mutate beyond its original parameters and go after gargoyles? Was she afraid a virus would give humans enough time to find a cure? Or did she feel it was more...appropriate/poetic to destroy humans ("a poison that must be purged from this planet"--her own words) with a disinfectant.

2) Actually, humans weren't her only target. "Operation: Clean Slate" was supposed to "[disinfect] the planet of all intelligent life" (emphasis mine). The only reason the gargoyles would be spared being the Praying Gargoyle. This just struck me as odd. So far as I know, she doesn't know about the New Olympians (does she?), and if she did, one would think she had found at least some kindred spirits among them (not that they would stop her from killing them if she felt it was in her best interests). I mean, is there a reason she didn't cast the Fulfillment Spell to disinfect just humans? Was she hoping to take out the Children? Or was this just her way of "nuking the place from orbit" (it's the only way to be sure).
These were just some things that occurred to me.

Until next time! ****Blaise whistles to the dragon, Coren. With a mighty roar, Coren shoots up and out through the skylight.****

Greg B> Perhaps. But it is so hard to know. You are judging this off the characters we've seen... but aside from their parting moments with their father, the characters we've seen have clearly been shaped and influenced by their father's death. Would Jason have developed the anger we saw if The Demon hadn't killed his father? Would Robyn have felt the need to protect her brothers if she hadn't witnessed her father's death? And if Jon was going to follow his siblings' lead, how would their leadership change who he is?

Like I said, Jason would've probably taken up the Hunter role even if Charles had lived. Charles would've been a major influence, I'm sure. I think Robyn would've assisted in the hunt as well, but maybe would've been more subtle about it, more behind the scenes, not firing missiles and riding sky sleds, but providing intel and gathering information. As for Jon... hard to say. Would he have been such a blind follower of Charles and Jason? Maybe, but it is impossible to know given how little of the character we saw before his father died and how young he was at that point.

Matt - [Saint Louis, Missouri, USA]

Greg B> Yes, I have watched Hunter's Moon.
Gargoyleslady - [kendal dot renfro at yahoo dot com]

GARGOYLESLADY> Have you ever watched "Hunter's Moon?" I think if you watch Jason and Jon's dynamic in those episodes, your question will be answered in a much clearer manner than I ever could.
Greg Bishansky

How could Jason have bullied Jon into joining the Hunt?
Gargoyleslady - [kendal dot renfro at yahoo dot com]

MATT> Jason would have probably easily bullied Jon into joining him in the Hunt. And Robyn would probably have gone along anyway, if only to look after her two brothers.

Not to mention, Charles would have probably been encouraging it.

Greg Bishansky

Greg B> I'm not so sure of that last statement. Obviously, there is no way to know, especially considering that Greg doesn't like hypotheticals. I tend to think Jason probably would've, but Robyn and Jon seemed to be less enthusiastic about the hunt. They were kids though. I dunno, hard to say. But Robyn's line: "Just because our ancestors hunted gargoyles, doesn't mean we have to." speaks volumes about what could've happened... and what did.

And aside from the retrieval of the Praying Gargoyle, another reason killing Charles might stand out for Demona is that immediatly after his death she was pursued by the kids into the Catacombs. Surely, it wasn't often that KIDS came after Demona.

Matt - [Saint Louis, Missouri, USA]

PAUL> I am pretty sure she remembers killing Charles Canmore. That was the night she collected the Praying Gargoyle, after all.

When she said "For a thousand years, they've hunted me. Why, I have no idea." She was referring to why the Hunters were hunting her at all. That's what she doesn't know.

Jason, Robyn and Jon would probably have become Hunters whether Charles died or not.

Greg Bishansky

PAUL> After all the Hunters she's probably killed over the centuries, I'm sure there comes a point when they all just start bluring together.

Man, 2010 was a crazy year. Remember when the monolith turned Jupiter into a star? Good times.

In "City of Stone, Part Two," we have proof that Demona didn't remember scratching Gillecomgain's face when she unmasked him:

Gillecomgain: "Look closely, demon! 'Tis your handiwork, done when I was but a boy. Do you remember?"
Demona: "No."

She probably didn't even remember killing Charles Canmore in Paris in 1980.

Paul - [nampahcfluap at yahoo dot com]

Patrick> Adding to that, Terry McGinnis/Batman confronts Derek Power/Blight over the death of his father in the Season 1 finale to Batman Beyond. Blight wants to know why Batman pursues him so much, to which Batman states "You killed my father." Blight's response:

"Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?"

Antiyonder

Patrick> It reminded me of that only-decent-quote too, but Masterdramon beat us both to it about halfway down the page.
Supermorff

I also doubt Demona remembers Gillecomgain. She probably wounded or killed a lot of people while raiding for food. What would make that occasion stand out in particular? It was a life-changing moment for Gillecomgain, sure, but to Demona it would have meant nothing.

This reminds me of what was probably the only decent quote in that horrible "Street Fighter" movie starring Raul Julia...

"For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me... it was Tuesday."

Reaching back a ways...

Antiyonder> I could be wrong about this, but I think it would be a couple of issues before BOOM would be able to react to any data they're getting about the sales of Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. The books coming out monthly, so issue #2 was probably pretty much set to go as issue #1 was coming out. If sales of the first issue - either to stores or to consumers - had been absolutely abysmal, they might have been able to pull issue #2. But that would mean taking a loss on whatever money that had already put into producing the second issue and possibly be stuck with a bunch of already printed comics, so sales would have needed to be so bad that BOOM would feel they'd lose more money by putting the comic out. And I doubt that's the case. If sales were bad, and I have no reason to believe that they are, it would probably be a few issues before BOOM could react to the trend and pull the plug. I don't know how far in advance comics publishers have to determine their print run, so it could also be that if sales were good, it would take a few issues for BOOM to increase the size of their print runs to meet demand.

Sometimes you do see just one issue of a comic get published, but it's not that common when you have a publisher in a reasonably stable financial situation that's getting behind the book. Among the reasons you might see only one issue of a comic are poor sales when the profits from the first issue were to be used to pay for publishing the second, problems with the production process, the initial issue being a test run by the publisher that didn't sell enough copies to warrant continuing the series, or the aformentioned case where the comic just sells so poorly that it would cost less to scrap the second issue than it would to publish it.

I don't know I have it which is why I asked. A Physician's Assistant that I worked for when I was in the Army said I might have it. I myself think he is FOS but do not rule out he may be correct. I was diagnosed with ADD when younger by a school psychologist never given medication and only found out years later when looking at my school records I think that was definitely misdiagnosed. I am a psychology major and this is why think when studying it what the PA told me was wrong. Im not familiar with Aspergers so I can't know that I don't have it. If I have it even mild I would like to seek to improve the condition. Im hesitant to get labeled something that has a stigma with it that I never seemed to have a problem with. Same time I believe in self improvement and being treated so if I have it I want treatment. I asked people here to get perspective or help.

I was originally misdiagnosed with ADD, which it seems is very common, especially among doctors who don't know or understand what Asperger's is. When I moved, my new doctor realized right away that I didn't have ADD, but rather Asperger's. She went out of her way to help me out, as well as undo the damage that my previous doctor had. GARGOYLESLADY> I can assure you, the reason Demona didn't go to steal the D/I-7 at first had nothing to do with her being a woman. As we have seen countless times throughout the series, Demona is never afraid to get her hands dirty.

As has been pointed out, she probably didn't want Xanatos to know it was her. But, when the hired help failed, she had no qualms about doing it herself.

Greg Bishansky

Gargoyleslady> I also have Asperger's, though mine is a mild case. I don't mind reading your posts and will help you in any way that you need.

"An explanation of cause is not a justification by reason." C. S. Lewis

GARGOYLESLADY> Ah, I see now. I too was rather confused by your posts but now that you've explained what you're trying to do, it's a lot clearer. Mostly I think you're deductions are accurate though I would dispute one or two of them.

"Xanatos knew in advance that Jon Carter wasn't really a reporter for WVRN but was actually after the gargoyles and that he could be a problem for Goliath."

I don't think that Xanatos knew in advance, but I imagine once "Carter" started asking about real live gargoyles, he got suspicious.

"Demona hired the thugs to steal the DI7 from Xanatos's East River warehouse because she's a woman and she doesn't want to get her hands dirty. It's only when they failed that she was going to steal it herself."

Now this I do disagree with because it sounds kinda sexist. I'm not saying you're sexist but thats how it might come across. A more likely explanation is that she didn't want Xanatos to know that she was the one behind the thefts.

"Demona revealed herself to spite Brooklyn."

You mean at the warehouse? I'm pretty sure she didn't realise Brooklyn was there until he attacked her.

"Demona said," They've hunted me for ten centuries. Why? I have no idea." She was lying. She knows why. She scratched Gillcomgain's face. Creating the first hunter. She is the reason they are hunting her."

Like others have said before, I really doubt she remembers scratching Gilly. Though she is probably does have some idea why these three particular Canmores are after her, considering she threw their dad off the top of Notre Dame.

I know all this might sound overly critical like I'm some teacher grading your maths paper but it's not meant to be. I think your correct with most of your assesments, and a lot of the points where I disagree with you are just that: places where I disagree.

Even folks without Asbergers often have trouble reading someone's tone of voice or body language. People make mistakes all the time, it's know big deal. If I were grading your answers, I'd give them a B at least.

"Demona hired the thugs to steal the DI7 from Xanatos's East River warehouse because she's a woman and she doesn't want to get her hands dirty."
This doesn't sound like Demona at all, nor does it sound like the kind of female characters that Greg is known for. Where did this observation come from?

Gargoyleslady: Actually, while I'm sure that DEEP down Demona realizes she's responsible for the Hunters (thanks to centuries of effectively mutual instigation , I do think she legitimately doesn't remember scarring Gillecomgain over ten centuries ago. Frankly, even her extremely long life isn't the cause for her not remembering -- it was less than forty years after slashing Gillecomgain's face when she finally unmasked him as the Hunter at Castle Moray.

Remembering that scene, once Gillecomgain is cornered and unmasked, he WANTS her to see that the scars were her "own handiwork" (or something similar, haven't seen the episode in a while). It's only when Demona claims to not remember the event at all -- the moment that probably altered the course of this guy's life -- does Gillecomgain actually lose his cool and throws him and Demona over the parapet of the castle.

But other than that, what you've written continues to be pretty spot on :)

"The suspense is terrible, I hope it lasts" -- Willy Wonka

The Journey

Jon Canmore wears two masks: The slicked back hair and mustache and the Quarryman hood.

There were a few good reasons why Broadway couldn't concentrate on his reading lessons: Goliath was missing, Angela was upset, she was standing right next to him and she is Goliath's daughter.

The Dying Of The Light

Hudson had not been seeing clearly for a month and was too scared to admit he was going blind.

Goliath knew something was going but didn't know what it was.

It would have hurt Hudson even further if Broadway had forced his assistance.

Even though Jeffrey is blind, he knew Hudson couldn't see the drink in front of him until the lights were turned on. He also knows that there's something Hudson isn't telling him: he's going blind. Jeffrey is saying," you don't think losing your sight is important? I'm not stupid. You couldn't even see the drink in front of your face until the lights came on."

Jeffrey also knows Hudson feels lonely. Hudson thinks no one can help him.

Hudson didn't want to face his friends if he couldn't see.

A Light House In A Sea Of Time

Goliath was angry, two of his clan members were missing and he wanted answers.

"You know I can't do that."

What Owen is saying is," You should know Xanatos isn't behind this nefarious plot."

Goliath was pissed off. He was in no mood for games.

"I suppose they could be anywhere." Goliath didn't like the answer he was given. He wanted Owen to take him to Broadway and Hudson.

Then when it was almost sunrise, Goliath was getting frustrated because he still had not found Hudson and Broadway.

The others were worried. They didn't know where Hudson was, Goliath thought Broadway was with him. When Hudson showed up and Broadway wasn't with him, the others realized Broadway had not been seen since the battle.

Hunter's Moon part one

DI7 is a potent concentrated chemical. The DI7 was worth taking for Demona because the earth had become very dirty and she has to cleanse it (of humans).

Goliath didn't like the answer he was given and that stone sleep was not a solution this time. In his heart, he wanted it to be near sunrise and he wanted his daughter to heal.

Goliath is angry. The Hunters have not only hurt Angela, they've also hurt him. He's ready to hunt them down and kill them to avenge Angela.

Xanatos knew in advance that Jon Carter wasn't really a reporter for WVRN but was actually after the gargoyles and that he could be a problem for Goliath.

Jason is evading questions about the city and precinct he comes from because he's not really a cop but Elisa doesn't know it.

Demona hired the thugs to steal the DI7 from Xanatos's East River warehouse because she's a woman and she doesn't want to get her hands dirty. It's only when they failed that she was going to steal it herself.

The Hunters are attacking Angela because she looks so much like Demona. This was a case of mistaken identity. And Jason realized this.

Demona revealed herself to spite Brooklyn.

Hunter's Moon part two

DI7 can be bonded with a pathogen and cause a disease. A plague that could threaten the entire planet (exactly what Demona wants).

Elisa is fighting with herself. She cares for Goliath deeply but she knows it would be impossible to get involved with him. She sensed his presence.

Seeing Elisa with another man and hearing her words hurt Goliath even further. That was like a knife through the heart for him.

Brooklyn did not want Goliath to forget about the DI7 that Demona stole but Goliath was unconcerned. He just wanted to get home. He thought that the Hunters had paid for what they did to Angela and that the problem was taken care of.

What Goliath did not realize is that their suits were insulated and Robyn had planted a tracer on him. It was Lex that found it, giving them just enough time to take cover.

Demona said," They've hunted me for ten centuries. Why? I have no idea." She was lying. She knows why. She scratched Gillcomgain's face. Creating the first hunter. She is the reason they are hunting her.

Hunter's Moon part three

Goliath is still angry and hurting. The Hunters almost killed Angela, he had seen Elisa with another male, and their home had been destroyed. Then, not being able to catch Elisa when he accidentally knocked her off the dam cut him even deeper.
