Count me as another vote for Cowboy Bebop -- I know the English dub is considered one of the best around, but I'd also recommend the Japanese as well :)

... and I'm throwing a vote for Kim Possible if you haven't seen the whole series yet. Shame the show was never (properly) released on DVD . . .

Tangent: Saw Shakespeare in Love again tonight (its probably my third time seeing it) . . . guess who's been swimming in the AskGreg archives reading Greg Weisman's thoughts on the film? ;)

I second the "Cowboy Bebop" recommendation. And third, fourth, and fifth it.

Rebel> Star Trek The Animated Series is also an enjoyable show, and arguably the the best cartoon of the 1970s.

It resists the cliches found in the decade's animation such as the teen tag alongs or funny animals. The episodes were even written in the same manner as ST rather than a typical cartoon.

Best episode would be Yesteryear which delves into the background of Spock. Heck, even those who dismiss the show from Trek canon insert the background elements into said canon (some of which were used in the 2009 film).

As an added upside, the actors/actress from TOS reprise their roles rather than the usual recast (aside from Chekov who was absent, but Walter Koenig did write an episode).

Rebel: I'm not sure what you have and haven't seen. I would recommend "Cowboy Bebop." I wouldn't call myself a fan of anime, but I LOVED that series.

One other little "Greg Weisman" response, from an account that I stumbled across completely by accident...

The Green Knight: He has passed my test.

If I'm not mistaken, this means that all eight of the Arthurian Survivors have now made it to Formspring.

REBEL - If you can find a copy, you might try the old "Dungeons & Dragons" cartoon from 1983 to 1986 a try. (I especially recommend the episode "The Dragons' Graveyard" - a very impressive piece of drama.)
Todd Jensen - [merlyn1@mindspring.com]

If you've ever been a Scooby-Doo fan, I'm currently rather engrossed in "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated," which shares many of the qualities that made MLP so unexpectedly popular and is just plain really fun. It's what Brandon Vietti got up to after "Spectacular Spidey" ended.

Rebel> Well, the Avengers: EMH cartoon isn't too bad. Nowhere near as good as SpecSpidey, but it has its moments and it's first season is finished but still not done airing in the States.

Brainiac > Yes and no. I have watched all the eps of Young Justice so far and loved them, but I'm sorta looking for cartoons that are already completed, or that are still in progress but have at least one full season under their belts.

Looking for suggestions guys. Recently I've watched all the episodes of Avatar the Last Airbender, X-Men Evolution, and My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. Now I need a new cartoon to watch. As a last resort I could do Gargoyles or Spec Spidey again, but I kinda want something new. If anyone feels like making a suggestion, what's your favorite animated series besides the ones I've already mentioned?

Arlo: Hey there. I'm currently trying many different alternatives to get the rest of the series out on DVD in some way and I was very intrigued by your post. So if you could e-mail me... We'll discuss it. I'm also willing to let bygones be bygones.

Fair enough. The feud is over, detective.

I'll be interested in hearing what D.Taina has planned. I might get a copy myself, just so I won't have to convert all those old VHS tapes to DVDs.

ARLO> Actually, there is something in the works like that, but I'll let D.Taina fill you in. But, you know what, it's cool that you're offering. I'm definitely for letting bygones be bygones. We all love "Gargoyles" and it's just criminal that the rest of the series isn't on DVD.

"Cartman gets ten million dollars and Michael Bay gets to keep making movies. There isn't a God." -Kyle

Oh, I'm aware, thanks. I just bought the issues that came out after I lost touch (basically Volume 2 and Redemption). When I did read the issues, it wasn't immediately after watching through my old Gargoyles tapes like I'm doing now, so it'll be interesting to see the story all together, the way it's supposed to be.

Anyway, not trying to start another fight, but speaking of the tapes, I feel I should let you guys know I still have all the original, uncut episodes from the second half of the second season (the part Disney won't release) on my old VHS tapes from when I was a kid, all in good quality. (At least, they were in good quality the last time I watched them, which was a couple of years ago.) I've heard some fans complain that they only have access to the Toon Disney eps, which make no sense since they've had too much stuff cut out.

Anyway, I understand you guys have a strict anti-pirating policy here, but it seems like such a waste not to share when there are all these fans wanting to see them. So if anyone here is interested in getting this released to the fans somehow, let me know.

Masterdramon: Aphrodite/Venus', Zeus/Jupiter's, and Sevarius' responses are the latest in your list to actually make me chuckle aloud d:

Then again, I starting to think I'm more easily impressed (in Jupiter's case) whenever some character mentions Theseus -- most here know Greg Weisman would love to work on something Theseus-themed extensively, but its a factoid that still seems hard-to-come-by at times.

It seems I've fallen out of touch with Gargoyles, but I've gotten back into it lately, and I've decided to compile a DVD of The Goliath Chronicles, mainly to tick you guys off. Hey Masterdramon, was the question Sevarius answered actually one of yours? I think that's the first time I've ever seen the question with a contraction (what's instead of what is).

You know, the only problem with those questions getting asked anonymously and individually is that there's no response count, no little icon you can click that brings up a collection of every answer to the question. That would make things MUCH easier.

Anonymous > A woman named D. Taina is the one who captures most of the images for the gargwiki. According to her Gargoyles Imagery Resource website, found at http://dtaina.lurkingfish.com/index.html, "You are welcome to use the images on this website for whatever purpose, just as long as you don't claim them as your own. Providing a link to my site somewhere would be nice, too.". I don't know if the images you are intending to use were captured by her or if they can also be found on the Gargoyles Imagery Resource site.

My rule of thumb (and this is MY personal guideline, not everyone will agree) is when in doubt about screen captures captured by someone else, I think it's acceptable to use the images as long as you give ample credit to wherever you got the images and whoever captured them and as long as you aren't making a profit off of them. When it comes to original art that someone has created from scratch, it's a different story.

Even though Shout! has mentioned on Twitter that for whatever-the-reasons the permission to get Gargoyles is just not a possibility (definitely implied when they wrote that they enjoy the enthusiasm but prefer it when its "thru properties they have or CAN get"), I also sent a message through their preferred email address.

And just like what GregB said earlier this week, even if absolutely NOTHING else comes out of all this email blitzing . . . well, we're used to that, aren't we? **sigh**

Going back to comics, I did pick up DuckTales #1 today, and for a first issue, I liked it. I'm still waiting to get copies of Volumes One and Two of The Life & Times of Scrooge McDuck, but from the two stories I've read in the Companion (not to mention watching the DuckTales pilot on my recently purchased DVDs) there were definitely a few moments I found great:
Seeing Scrooge's exhibit's name, as well as him telling his nephews and Webby to see his "life and times" made me chuckle, not to mention Scrooge refering to Donald joining the Navy as witnessed in the show's pilot-movie. I also liked the brief flashback panel of Scrooge in the Klondike, hehe.
Another thought -- I did eventually read the Free Comic Book Day issue of Young Justice/Batman: Brave & the Bold . . . did anyone else who managed to grab a copy earlier this month notice and enjoy the rather-obvious-but-little shoutout to a certain superhero? d:

Oh, and let me also just add (just for the sake of "it's been a while") I really hope we eventually hear something about Mecha-Nation #2-3. I know we haven't heard anything from Greg Weisman, Ape Entertainment, or anyone/thing else, but really, I've sent emails to Ape Entertainment and I'm worried that we'll never see this mini-series ever published.

Phoenician
"The suspense is terrible, I hope it lasts" -- Willy Wonka

Well, I went ahead and sent an email to the alternate email Shout provided. If not to convince them to try to release Gargoyles on DVD, but to let them know the demand is there.

Is there any hope for "a day of rage" of sorts with Marvel? Like a day or a couple of days that we could agree on a massive emailing campaign against Brevoort? Then again, I would be afraid if we unintentionally scuppered any deals Greg Weisman was working on.

Richard Jackson

Disney is notorious for keeping things "in the vault" when they could easily still make money off it. "Song of the South", anyone? Why are we surprised by any of this?
Patrick

One number that surprises me is that one 1 in 6 who bought the first two comics for CB2 bought the trade paperback. So 5 out of 6 did not find out how the story ended. Kinda disapointing.
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

I think some of the things they are doing don't make sense period. BOOM was/is interested in Gargoyles. Marvel isn't. By refusing to sell a license for Gargoyles to BOOM and Marvel decides never to publish anymore Gargoyles books, they're basically turning down free money. FREE money. They wouldn't even have to do anything, just rake in a licensing fee periodically.

Adam > Serious delays in a comic's releases are a bigger problem than you realize. Sure, there are plenty of diehard Garg fans who would track down the comics and buy them despite any delay. But many people are casual fans who don't feel like putting up with an inconsistent release schedule and who aren't going to look online to figure out if any additional Gargoyles comics are going to be released. A lot of these people probably bought the first issue or two and then assumed that the comic got cancelled when no more issues came out for such a long time. Another factor that worked against Gargoyles' sales was, as Greg B mentioned, a lack of marketing. With a company like BOOM, the comics would likely get some better marketing, plus the release schedule would be more consistent, not to mention they could probably afford to hire an artist who can competently and consistently duplicate the art style in the animated series (something SLG evidently couldn't do, which might also have contributed to falling sales for people who weren't impressed with the art). I think that if BOOM were to put out a Gargoyles comic, sales of the first issue would easily exceed 8,000. It's all a moot point now I guess.

Rebel

If they'd take away the Darkwing license from BOOM, how high are chances Marvel would carry on publishing Darkwing issues?
It doesn't make much sense to take back a license that earns serious money without using it, does it?

Neill

I never said Darkwing Duck specifically. But they have done this with a couple of the licenses already. Notably, Pixar material.
Greg Bishansky - [<--- Greg's Blog of Clue-By-Fours]
"Cartman gets ten million dollars and Michael Bay gets to keep making movies. There isn't a God." -Kyle

So Disney is retracting their license for a very popular comic series, Darkwing Duck, just so that Marvel can sit on it because they don't think it'll sell well enough? That's what the licensing department is for!
Landon Thomas - [<- Gargoyles News Twitter Feed]

ADAM> Alas, it seems that Disney is starting to cut it's ties to BOOM! in favor of Marvel.
Algernon
Man, 2010 was a crazy year. Remember when the monolith turned Jupiter into a star? Good times.

ADAM> You missed it, BOOM was pursuing the license, they were interested, but Disney didn't respond. Just flat out didn't respond. At all. And now Disney seems to be giving some rights that are expiring from BOOM to Marvel. So, sadly, BOOM is no longer an option.

As for Marvel, well, their VP, Tom Brevoort has said, in no uncertain terms on his formspring that he doesn't think the market can sustain it without a TV series on the air. Personally, I think he is very wrong on this one, so getting Marvel to take a look is going to be an uphill battle.

Greg Bishansky

Then here's hoping Boom! Studios can pick up Gargoyles.

I know Greg has said that there are seven spin-offs of Gargoyles, but how about a spin-off about Demona, detailing her time in between 1057 and 1994. I think that would be an interesting read.

Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

ADAM> Keep this in mind, Boom! Studios is a much larger company than SLG. They have many more resources, and were able to market and advertise those comics much better than SLG was.

This comes down to marketing more than anything, and the delayed schedule did not help in the slightest.

Greg Bishansky - [<--- Greg's Blog of Clue-By-Fours]
"Cartman gets ten million dollars and Michael Bay gets to keep making movies. There isn't a God." -Kyle

Rebel- I had thought of that too, but if they where Gargoyle fans like we are, they would not have let a delay get in their way of buying the comics.
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

Adam > The sales for Gargoyles probably would have stayed pretty steady if it hadn't been for the horrible delays.
Rebel

Dissapoiting that nothing tangible came from emailing Shout, but Greg B is right. We did make some noise that they had to notice in only a few hours. I sumtimes get the feeling that Disney does not want Gargoyles to succeed. When they raised the licensing fee, did they only raise it for Gargoyles or all Disney products?

I often thought of Emailing Shout! Factory; they did a good job with Transformers. But I never jumped on the chance... thanks for spearheading that, Greg.

I would send an E-Mail, but it looks as if they got enough response.

Should have told them they could package the comic and DVDs together to make a complete set.

I just hope Shout! realizes there is a bigger market for this property than they realize. I just found out my boss LOVED the show, and didn't know it was on DVD. Guess what I am getting him for Christmas?

PHOENICIAN> Well, like I said, if they already received so many e-mails that they spoke up, it means we made an impact. So don't worry about it. I already sent out the notice, people will stop. I'm sure they'll get a few more, since not everyone has seen the response yet.

But a negative response is better than nothing. They got flooded. FLOODED. In less than six hours.

If they're not pursuing it right now, they might be soon.

If Shout! does indeed do this and they do create season/volume sets, I really hope that they just reissue Season 1 and S2 Volume 2. Brand new versions would be a little frustrating to me, especially if they include any new features. Without new stuff, as long as their Season 2 Volume 2 doesn't look out of place alongside the S1 and S2V1 releases, I'd be quite happy.

I honestly don't care if they start all over again or just release Season 2 Vol 2. I just want the remaining episodes to be released! But before I'll write them an e-mail I'd like to see some information about this whole Buena Vista licensing from Shout!

If we really get those 26 episodes left: Does anyone know if Shout! >produces< bonus content for their DVD releases? I'd like to see commentaries by Greg about certain episodes (Hunter's Moon, The Gathering maybe Future Tense) and the episode introductions.

BRAINIAC> Usually, SHOUT! Factory does a complete set for the hardcore geeks, and does individual sets.

Best case scenario, they have a Complete Set that you order online, and they release the smaller sets in stores... and with those smaller sets, yes, they would start over at the beginning.

A Complete Set is my big hope, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I'm curious as to whether Shout! Factory would want to just jump in with Season 2 Volume 2, reissue the previous collections first, or just put out a "full" box set of the 65 canon episodes.

REBEL> Any single gargs left in the Avalon clan aren't completely without hope, as the Third Race have proven willing to shack up with almost anyone and anyTHING.
Algernon

Greg B- Has Greg W ever said anything as to when Jade and Turquesa leave Avalon?
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

Maybe there aren't any gay male gargoyles in the Avalon clan. But maybe there are lesbian gargoyles? That would mean even more leftover males. Maybe one of the leftover males is an evil gargoyle like Iago and decides to cause trouble due to the fact that he doesn't have a mate. Isn't there going to be a gargoyle in the Avalon clan named Azazel? He sounds evil.

Kidding, but in all seriousness if I was one of those leftover males I'd be so sad. I guess that has probably happened to plenty of gargoyles throughout history, and I'm sure most of them took it in stride, but I bet at least a few of them didn't handle the disappointment so well.

Rebel

ADAM> <<I think Greg has said that Staghart does not become Lexington's mate but instead helps Lexington realize that he is gay. (Although I may be wrong about that part.)>>

You are, Greg didn't comment either way on this.

And dude, if anyone was going to leave with Jade and Turquesa, they would have done so already. They didn't.

Greg Bishansky - [<--- Greg's Blog of Clue-By-Fours]
"Cartman gets ten million dollars and Michael Bay gets to keep making movies. There isn't a God." -Kyle

And even if both of them were gay, it doesn't mean that they will be attracted to each other. But I still like the idea of them going with Jade and Turquesa when they leave Avalon. Maybe one of them finds a mate somewhere along the line, and the other one becomes Lexington's mate. I think Greg has said that Staghart does not become Lexington's mate but instead helps Lexington realize that he is gay. (Although I may be wrong about that part.)
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

ADAM> If they wanted, those two left over males could always pair off with two of the Children.
Algernon

Greg B- maybe they are. I suppose it doesn't matter. However, I think that might be the lazy way to go. A more interesting idea would be to make only one of them gay who has a trush on the other one who in not interested in him.
Adam - [carl006_1999@yahoo.com]

The original point - that the Pendant-Bearers seem somewhat insufficient to rear the entire Mayan brood - is still legitimate, though. My guess is that, in the course of retrieving the Sun Amulet from the Eyrie, Zafiro will eventually decide to split their eggs between Guatemala and Manhattan, given the rather skewed parent-to-hatchling ratio present in the latter at the moment.

"Cartman gets ten million dollars and Michael Bay gets to keep making movies. There isn't a God." -Kyle

I looking over the Avalon clan, and I realized that there will be two males who will not have a mate from the Avalon clan. I am wondering what will happen to them. I hope they go with Jade and Turquesa when they leave Avalon. Maybe these two will be able to find love with females from other clans and then either rejoin the Avalon clan or join the Manhattan clan.

Also, I believe that Jade and Turquesa are still on Avalon when the Mayan eggs hatch. Does anyone else think 20-40 hatchlings is an awefull lot of hatchlings to watch for just 2 gargoyles?

Laura:

1.) Go to Ask Greg
2.) Click on "Search"
3.) In the search box enter: +m'gan +ship
4.) Click on "Generic Search" underneath the search box

the '+' indicates that word is required to exist in the search results.

the ' in m'gan is converted to a wildcard character, so both "m'gan" and "megan" are matched.

You will want to play around with your words. For example replace m'gan with martian so you can see answers that refer to her as "miss martian".

"ship" will match any word with "ship" in it like "relationship" or "friendship".

The TL;DR version is there doesn't appear to be much on Miss Martian's space ship in the Ask Greg archives, so you can probably ask your question without much worry.

Gorebash

Hi all; Question about the archive...

At this point all Young Justice questions are sifting into one folder. Would it be possible to break that into subfolders too? At least for the main characters. (And maybe to specify if the current Atlantis folder is meant for Gargoyels only...though there is only one message in it.) When the que reopens I'd like to post a question on M'gan's ship and sifting through 500+ was less than fun.

I would like to Thank Mr. Greg Weisman and his team of writers for an amazing job in Writing for Disney and WB animated shows. I have a
philosophical question about Young Justice. Mr. Weisman I know that you don't especially like these type of questions. So I'm going to ask only a couple.
1.) a. How do parents of Aqualad, Miss Martian, Kid Flash, Artemis, and Speedy feel about them working for the Justice League?
b. Do teens get paid working for the league?

Thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions. We really and truly Appreciate it!

RE: Ask Greg Question Moderation

The rules on what gets through and what is deleted are set by Greg. I've asked Greg a few times about allowing questions that had already been answered, trolls, and questions that "didn't belong" to be deleted from the queue. Every time Greg has said no. I understand if you're frustrated, but keep in mind this is how Greg wants Ask Greg to operate. And considering he's been doing this for 15 years (over 13,000 questions answered and nearly 1,000 rambles) and is more accessible than any other television writer, producer, or director out there, well.. who are any of us to argue?

Ask Greg is really amazing when you put it into perspective. In the last few years some writers/directors have taken up Twitter accounts, but it's not a medium for expanded discussion like Ask Greg. And sure, a few even have blogs where they can expand on ideas, but the sheer volume and certainly the quality of information shared by Greg is simply unprecedented.

SEVENTH for going on a Disney Afternoon DVD binge at Costco where I discovered the season sets of Chip 'n Dales Rescue Rangers (Volume 2) and DuckTales (Volumes 1-3) were only $8.99.

I already owned Volume 1 of Darkwing Duck that they also had, and I resisted enough not to grab the two volumes of TaleSpin, though if they're still there in a few weeks, they are in serious danger of being bought d:

I'd like to ask about filtering of Ask Greg submissions. There's a lot of garbage getting through that is just crowding out worthwhile submissions and probably annoying Greg. They are already reviewed for potential legal issues, so would it be much more out of the way to toss out the rubbish?
