Richard Jackson> Thanks. I'm glad people appreciate them. I actually didn't think the fans would be interested, since the Marvel comics aren't canon. But since they were licensed by Disney, I felt like the wiki should have some information on them.

ARLO> Marvel probably had access to second season scripts, which would have been in production long before those comics were written.

The average episode of "Gargoyles" took ten months to produce from scratch. A comic book takes much less time.

"Cartman gets ten million dollars and Michael Bay gets to keep making movies. There isn't a God." -Kyle

While writing the GargWiki entry for issue #5 of the Marvel comic, I noticed that there's a scene where Brooklyn exclaims "Jalapeno!" The comic was released in June 1995, and if my dates are right, I think that's before Season 2 aired - which would mean that the presence of the "Jalapeno!" exclamation in the comics predates its appearance in the canon material. But that doesn't seem right, so I thought I'd check here before I post anything inaccurate on the wiki. Does anyone know about this?
Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

Something I'd like to add: We know that "Bambi", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin", the movies, exist in the Gargoyles Universe. Because the Trio saw Bambi and because of Elisa's Halloween costumes. It's very likely, "Pocahontas", the film, was released in the Gargoyles Universe.
Richard Jackson - [rickymtj@yahoo.com]

I'd up that "very likely" to a "most definitely" existed for the historical Pocahontas (and any other historical figure prior to 1993) based on the show being set in what appeared to be the modern world as we knew it, albeit with slightly more advanced technology.
Patrick
"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men." - Willy Wonka

ComicBooksFan92> Not the Disney version, but it is very likely that the historical Pocahontas existed in the Gargoyles Universe. I draw that conclusion because Greg Weisman draws heavily on history and while he's added fictional historical characters (Princess Katherine, Prince Malcolm), I can't recall that he's ever removed any true historical figures. Anyway, for all we know, Pocahontas's impact on the Gargoyles probably amounted close to nil.
Richard Jackson - [rickymtj@yahoo.com]

A though hits me now. I saw before on youtube a (IDIOT)video of Demona and Pochaonthas.
And my question is: Is the Gargoyles world the same of charachters like Pochaontas(besides she really existed)?

I hope my english is understandable.

"The suspense is terrible, I hope it lasts" -- Willy Wonka

Re: Boy Meets World -- long story short, this DVD was licensed out. So it wasn't JUST Disney that made the continued releases possible. The first article relative to this tidbit is linked below:

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Boy-Meets-World-Rights-Acquired/10252

They had previously released three seasons, perpetually stalled on the fourth, with little hope in sight. Then the show (among others) was licensed out, and fans were happy to see that not only were the first three seasons re-relased, but that the fourth and fifth seasons were released also, with a recent announcement for the sixth not too long ago. Only one left to complete the series, fyi.

So, going back to Gargoyles, and the suggested hope that licensing the property out could see the show finally get its due treatment on DVD, the fandom recently had a bout of news that suggested that SHOUT! Factory (well known for releasing high quality shows on DVD) was potentially interested in picking up a few Disney tv titles . . .

. . . and within 24 hours Gargoyles fans from all over flooded the email accounts over at SHOUT! that they quickly asked the fans to please stop sending messages, which as usual, is not really a dismissal nor (obviously) a confirmation that they are/are not pursuing the license.

So yeah, we've made efforts in that route too. Not saying any ship is sailed with this route, but (as usual) there's not much to report/update/speculate about.

Phoenician
"The suspense is terrible, I hope it lasts" -- Willy Wonka

That IS worth noting. I wonder if we should start writing to Disney execs about S2V2.
Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

This might be worth noting: Disney similarly cancelled the release of "Boy Meets World" on DVD, after only releasing I believe the first two seasons. This was about five years ago.

In the past few months, they have decided to continue that project, and have since released seasons 3 and 4. So maybe that is a good sign for us?

Colin Cole - [reliken@gmail.com]

Wow, 61 people reviewed that S2V2 DVD before a single one of them decided to post anything about it here? What a cruel prank.

Raven> With regards to finding the Marvel comics and so on, I've found it really isn't that hard to find Gargoyles collectible merchandise on-line. Since Gargoyles isn't hugely popular like Superman or something, the collectible stuff sells for relatively cheap. So far, I've been able to find all but two issues of the original Marvel comics on-line, most issues in near mint condition for only a few dollars. They're selling the old action figures for relatively cheap on Amazon too.

Algernon> Thanks. It made me wonder after seeing an episode of "Whale Wars".
Gargoyleslady - [Kendal.renfro@yahoo.com]

GargoylesLady> Gargoyles tend to have a much higher tolerance for extreme cold the humans, at least for short periods. A gargoyle in Artic waters could probably hold out longer then a human but probably not indefinitely.
Algernon
Man, 2010 was a crazy year. Remember when the monolith turned Jupiter into a star? Good times.

Will the waters of the Arctic Ocean kill a gargoyle as fast as it would a human or would it take longer because of a Gargoyle's thick hide?
Gargoyleslady - [Kendal.renfro@yahoo.com]

VERY GOOD, Colin Cole, I very hope for you Gargoyles fan from North America that in this year Disney will release once for all 2 season volume 2.

And after will happen this, me and the other fans from Italy will start a petition and a email campaign to convince the Italian "place" of Disney to release the DVDS and the Comic books in my country.

ComicBooksFan92
-"A me e' stato negato tutto. Tutto perfino la VENDETTA!!!!!!!!!"- Goliath in Awakening, Part 2

Raven: Originally, Slave Labor Graphics licensed the "Gargoyles" property from Disney for twelve issues (and later the six-issue "Bad Guys" miniseries). After that, they intended to take a look at the sales figures and make a decision as to whether or not to pay for the license again once that period ran out. By the time it did, however, Disney had drastically raised their licensing fee, to the point where it was financially unfeasible for SLG to continue publishing the series. From what I understand, "Gargoyles" consistently ranked as one of the SLG's biggest (if not the biggest) sellers, but the licensing fee cut into profits too heavily for such a comparatively small company to manage to pick it up again.

We had some hope, earlier this year, of the rather larger publisher BOOM! picking up the now up-in-the-air license, but while they expressed some interest (and had found noted success in adapting other Disney Afternoon properties into comic form, including "Darkwing Duck" and "Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers), Disney ultimately pulled the kibosh on their licensing rights completely.

With their current ownership of Marvel, many have speculated that Disney is now somewhat reticent to license out their properties to other publishers when they can now keep them in-house. But before you ask, no, Marvel appears to have absolutely no interest whatsoever in the "Gargoyles" IP at this time. Will that ever change? It's unlikely, but not impossible somewhere down the line.

So in short, Greg W. and the rest of his stalwart crew would be putting out more "Gargoyles" comics in a heartbeat if it was up to them...but it's not, I'm afraid. The people who have the power to greenlight more "Gargoyles" canon materials at the moment are Disney executives, and right now none of them appear to have any active interest in pursuing the property further.

So does anyone know why there aren't more comics? I've only seen Clan Buildings volume 1 & 2 and Bad Guys but I kind of expected more to come out. I was really disappointed not to find anymore. I just found out a couple years ago about the older comic series that got published around the time the show came out, I was lucky and randomly found number one while sifting looking for an issue I'd missed of the newer ones at the store. But I'd rather read more of the newer ones...it was like getting new episodes.

That cover is fake, and the Phoenix Gate on the back was drawn by our fandom's own Kythera for the Gathering 2004 Phoenix Gate Anthology, and I am sure is being used without permission.

People can add items to Amazon without those things actually existing for the sake of having a "notify me when this becomes available" option. Honestly, I'd think we'd hear about any Season 2, Volume 2 via Greg Weisman if it were for real.

I found that on Amazon - the cover art looks fairly official, but I have no idea how old that is or if it has only been up for a short time. If it has only been updated as of recently, than I'd wager that's a good sign.

If not... well, shoot.

Gorebash: that would be fine if they were actually running commercials, but in this case, nost of what they're running here are promo ads for other DisneyXD programs-and/or short 2-3 minute programs of these guys having a competition seeing who can hang laundry on a clothes line faster!!!?? uugh!

RE: Edited Gargoyles Episodes

I think the episodes that aired on US Disney XD were edited not just for violence, but also for time. It seems the 8 minutes left for commercials in a 30 minute block from 20 years ago isn't enough for current television, so they cut a couple scenes here and there to get it down to 10+ minutes of commercial time.

This is especially frustrating for those episodes that aren't available on DVD.

Gorebash

Battle Beast: I have Rogers: here in Ottawa, it's 216. They also have a DisneyXD on Demand-but sadly no Gargs. Only animated show in there is the Emperor's new Groove. And yes I hate the CRTC-always have, always will. Canadian talent is strong enough to stand on it's own.

I DID IT!!! I WATCHED ALL 485 BEST PICTURE NOMINEES IN ONE YEAR!!!

Greg B: Actually, although we get channels like Nick, A&E, MTV, and now DisneyXD - these are not simply rebroadcasts of the US channels. These are Canadianized versions of the channels(sadly). There's a certain amount of Canadian content required to be broadcast on each channel-and as a result, they take the basic programming of each channel, and add in Canadian programming. In the Case of the Disney related channels like Family Channel, Disney Playhouse & DisneyXD-they're all being run by Astral media in Canada. Thus: http://www.disneyxd.ca/
Wingless

*sigh* I was afraid of this. First sign that we're getting edited eps. "Long Way To Morning" The scene where Hudson prepares the torch and lights it. Why they'd cut that baffles me-what's violent about that?
Wingless

ComicBookFan92: I read the same sort of thing into the Macbeth/Demona relationship during my first several watch-throughs of "City of Stone," but Greg W. deconfirms that there was any sort of romantic element to their relationship at any point in the DVD commentaries. I still believe that, had their "Golden Age" alliance lasted for another couple centuries, there was potential for something of the kind to blossom between them (Hell, when she was going for it and he didn't know who she was in "Sanctuary," she managed to wrangle a proposal out of him in about a month), but her betrayal made that forever impossible. No, while Demona will have another great love or two by the time she dies, I very much doubt that it will be a human...for obvious reasons.

Now, reposting a question I asked last week and didn't get an answer to...

Since I'm probably never going to get a chance to see any of the Gathering "exclusives" in person (which fills me with much sadness), I was wondering if anyone who's seen the "Bad Guys" Leica Reel could tell me if the Jeff Bennett-voiced Matrix sounds anything like the voice he uses for Red Tornado in "Young Justice." That's the one I hear in my head when I, say, read Matrix's Formspring responses, and I just want to double-check that that's actually accurate.

Thanks in advance!

Arlo: so far it's hard to tell. It's certainly not like Family channel airing them Commercial free-that's for sure. There aren't really commercials-just random DIsney crap they're breaking up the show with(like 2 guys having a race hanging laundry on a clothes line!!!!-gimmie a break!) - so much so that the first episode I watched, they didn't even run the credits!!!! Second episode I saw(The Edge), they didn't bother running the credits for X-Men prior to Gargs-but they did run the Gargs credits-so it appears to be a random thing. They are nice clean prints-that's for sure-kinda dark too(not sure if that says anything) I'm still watching on a standard TV set-which is pretty bright normally. Can't wait until we get to the eps not on DVD! (BTW-Saturday morning it's on at 6:30 am)
Wingless

Ehi guys I red before that Demona will have a new great(and true) love. And when I red it was thinking in Macbeth, infact after I' ve seen "City of Sone" and other episodes where they meet each other it was looks like, yes they hate each other, but it could be possible that they, incounscosly, feel some little love.

I hope my english is understandable.

Dr. Ashley Kafka: His characters are always so fascinatingly complex.

Hathor: Oh! I very much enjoyed his work on the Mummy Animated Series! They were quite wise to bring him in! He always brings a quality to his work that is seldom seen among scholars these days.

Death of the Endless: I loved W.I.T.C.H. Too bad it seems that all the shows he does get cancelled too soon. Gives me a bad feeling about Young Justice; I like Miss Martian on that show.

Now, as for my thoughts on the episode...
Maybe it was the hiatus, but this one had me reduced to a melted pile of geekgasming goo from start-to-finish. It's easily one of the strongest episodes to come out of an already stellar season, and it's left me positively sallivating for more.

I especially loved the oodles of cameos; of course we had Greg Weisman as Connor's and Megan's history teacher, who I'm pretty sure is Snapper Carr (he may never have been a high school teacher in the comics, but he definitely looks the part, was called "Mr. Carr," and served as a mentor to the comics' version of Young Justice.

Former "Super Friends" side-kicks Wendy and Marvin were definitely a treat to see...although it makes me wonder how long it will take for us to see their version of Wonderdog. Meanwhile the burly African American that Connor antagonizes is identified by Marvin as Mal Duncan, AKA the Teen Titan known as Herald. And is that Bumblebee's signature haircut I see on one of the cheerleaders? Considering the name of their mascot, I'm guessing so. :D

And of course, the biggest new face of all: Lex Luthor is finally here, and he sure as Hell did not disappoint. THIS is the Luthor I like to see - just the right mix of self-superior smugness and the skills to back that attitude up. Revealing this version of Mercy Graves as a combat-ready android was definitely a shocker, and it led to the first "Xanatos Tag" where we get to see the genuine manipulators in the flesh.

And hey, while I saw it coming a mile away, seeing Luthor and Ra`s share a glass and reveal themselves as members of the Light orchestrating the entire episode's events was awesome beyond words. As I'm sure we all suspected, Oded Fehr's Light member did indeed turn out to be the Demon's Head himself, and I shivered with excitement at virtually every single word he spoke.

As for the rest of the episode, the general level of quality in this series has become SO consistently epic that I scarcely feel the need to mention it. The animation? Beautiful. The voice-acting? Top-notch...holy crap was Luthor's voice well-done. And Kelly Hu proves that she can match Vanessa Marshall blow-for-blow in inserting sex into every word she speaks during her scenes with Roy.

The humor? Again, incredibly consistent in its wit and charm; the sheer hoops they jump through to get Connor Kent his human name had me in stitches. And the Sphere's antics, brief as they were, continue to be adorable. The action? Oh God, was there some epic stuff in this episode...kudos to S+P for allowing Cheshire to use a realistic rocket launcher. Kaldur still shines through the best, though, what with all the water-bearing tricks he pulled in the final battle.
So...yeah. In short, I frakking loved this episode, and give it my highest rating possible. I'm having roughly the same feeling now as I did about the "Avatar: The Last Airbender" Season 3 premiere, which can pretty much be summed up thusly...

"Damn...that was worth the wait."

Posting it online early feels like a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Or someone hit the shiny red button by mistake. It happens and will probably be corrected within a day or two.

Attention anyone living in the States - for some unknown reason, Cartoon Network has posted YJ Ep10, Targets, to their website. I am both ecstatic and annoyed.

To anyone who wishes to watch (US only, not even territories; sorry Taina), head to http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/youngjustice/video/index.html and enjoy.

There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

Todd: Oh, I wish...I'm on the last chapter of "Crisis on Infinite Earths" right now and it's been a blast.

Nah, it looks they're just renumbering issues of 52 different titles back to #1 and "streamlining" continuity for younger audiences. And so DC's rich (if admittedly quite convoluted, but hey, that's half the fun of it) history goes out, not with a bang, but with a whimper...

They're rebooting the DC universe again? Will they be doing another world-shaking cataclysm a la "Crisis on Infinite Earths" to mark that?
Todd Jensen - [merlyn1@mindspring.com]

Who knows, maybe it survived because DC will just give Greg complete control over their multiverse post-reboot.

What? A guy can dream.

Young Justice comic survives DC universe reboot with #8 solicitation for September: http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/news.php/news.php?action=fullnews&id=1056 It's written by Kevin Hopps and Greg.

I have to admit I was a worried about that since Young Justice is supposed to be on a multiverse earth. I wonder if they'll even address it.

Hey everybody - not been here in AGES, as I pretty much had some truly unbelievable stuff coming my work and loads of work.

So yeah, I haven't checked with anything related to the show, and just wanted to pop in and say Hi and ask if anything has materialized, or if there's any direction where things are going.

So yeah, stay strong and all the best to you guys. :)

I agree with Rebel on EVERYTHING she says!!

Anthony> The YJ wikia claims that the new air date for Targets is July 1st; however, the page on World's Finest Online that was linked through the Gargoyles News Twitter Feed said that the July 1st airing would be Fireworks. I'd say nobody knows what's going on right now, maybe not even Cartoon Network, but we're definitely not getting new episodes this month.

@Nebulan - I've always been a fan of burnt sienna but I hate burnt toast. :)

#Young Justice - Any news? When do new episodes start?

Nebulan> That image is from the pitch for the New Olympians series. I think Sphinx appeared in a few other images from the pitch, but now I don't remember where I saw them. Still, since the pitch isn't exactly canon, chances are her design will change anyway, so you could probably go with whatever colours you like.
Supermorff

Nebulan > I'm guessing she'd be the color she is in that picture. So, a light golden color. Although her face does appear to be whiter than the rest of her body, that may not be intentional.
Rebel

Question... I know we don't know much about Sphinx (ie all I know I read here: http://gargwiki.net/Sphinx_(New_Olympian) ) and I'm wondering... what color do you think she is? I'm attempting to make some fanart of her (gee, is that a first?) and at first I was thinking becuase of her name "Sphinx" she'd be lion colored, so kind of a tan or golden, but looking at the wiki article again it says simple "feline-like" features so really she could be any color, even be white. Any thoughts? I'm assuming that's the best picture we have of her since if there was a better one out there I'm sure it would find it's way to that wiki page, yes?

I want more gargoyles canon!
