D. Taina> I wish I knew that myself on where to download the show in Korean. I haven't even been able to find Korean fansubs of the show online. The closest I came was when someone subtitled the Nostalgia Critic's review of the show.

I don't have a VCR, so I'm not interested in buying the VHS. However, if anyone wants me to try and get it, I'll see what I can do.

Richard Jackson - [rickymtj@yahoo.com]

Richard Jackson: I have European Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, German, French and Italian. I have all the episodes except for "Broadway Goes to Hollywood" in Italian (which apparently never aired) and "Awakening: Part 3" in French. I have The Heroes Awaken version but the episode itself is nowhere to be found.

The show's available in Korean?! Damn it, and I JUST completed my collection by downloading "Protection" in French, the only one that was missing besides the two I mentioned earlier. Do you know where I could download them?

I don't get the confusion. "The Sense of Honesty" is a pretty appropriate title for "Outfoxed", albeit a little bit on the nose.
Harlan Phoenix - [harlanphoenix@live.com]

D.Taina> I once had a theory about multiple dubbing in the same language in that perhaps they did it to make their citizens more comfortable. I somewhat abandon that theory. I think the Disney Co. deals the international distribution rights on a country by country basis and leaves every country to decide whether they want to dub or subtitle it.

Have you collected any of the episodes in Korean? This video of Awakening is on sale for one Korean dollar. The words on the video say "Champion Goliath--Hero's Birth"

What are some of Lexington's fears? I WILL watch the show, I just have to get this off my chest.
ShadowChild28 - [kendal.renfro@yahoo.com]

Brainiac: There are some weird title translations. I think the most interesting is the changes from Latin American Spanish to European Spanish (why was the same show dubbed in the same language twice?) In Latin American Spanish, "Outfoxed" was called "Deceived," but in European Spanish, that same episode was called "Smarter than a Fox." And Walkabout is "The Hero of Australia" and "Return to your Roots" for some reason. I have all the episodes in all the languages and boy, I've seen some weird translations.
D. Taina

ShadowChild> If the series tself do a good enough job explaining what these could be, I don't see what we could add.

I have a couple of questions about Goliath. What are some of Goliath's fears? What are some of Goliath's dreams?

Blaise> *"Monsters" is called "The Monster of Lake Loch Ness."

How redundantly redundant.

*"Vendettas"="Revenge". Remind me, where is the word "vendetta" derived from?

Yeah, vendetta is actually Italian in the first place, so the translation software probably wouldn't just copy it over. It's actually derived from the Latin vindicta, from which we also get vindictive. A more proper direct translation would be "vengeance."

****A red cat pads into the Room, shakes itself, and morphs into Blaise.**** Hey all! It's my first post of the year, and less than half a day before the Room wipe.
Yeah, I need to work on my timing. Anyway....

THE FAN MADE DVD COVERS> To me the interesting thing here is using the "Translator" function on Google to see how the titles very often differ from the original English. I actually went through them for the hell of it, and here's what I've found (please feel free to skip this if you don't care, I just found it fascinating):
*Some titles just have "The" added at the beginning: "Awakening", "Metamorphosis", "Legion", "Heritage", "Kingdom", "Golem", "Eye of the Storm", "Sentinel", and "Hunter's Moon."
*"The Thrill of the Hunt" is called "The Chasing Pack."
*"Temptation" is called "The Spell" (I actually like this one: to me it doesn't just refer to the magic spell of control, but the "spell" of half-truths Demona weaves around Brooklyn).
*"Deadly Force" is called "A Life Suspended."
*"Enter Macbeth" is just "Macbeth."
*"The Edge" is called "The False Gargoyles" (kind of loses the double meaning in the original title).
*"Long Way to Morning" is called "The Dawn."
*"Her Brother's Keeper" is called "Fraternal Conflict."
*"Reawakening" is called "The New Awakening."
*"Leader of the Pack" is called "The True Leader of the Pack."
*"A Lighthouse in a Sea of Time" is slightly altered, replacing "sea" with "ocean."
*"The Mirror" is called "The Magic Mirror."
*"Eye of the Beholder" is called "The Magic Eye."
*"Vows" is "Promises" (essentially the same, but the difference for me is that a "vow" seems more powerful than a "promise"--at least in English).
*"City of Stone" looks to be altered to "The CITIES of Stone" (and for some reason there are 5 parts to it listed on this set instead of 4)
*An odd one: "High Noon" is translated as "Noon", but the way the Italian is phrased makes the "noon" capitalised.
*"Outfoxed" is called "The Sense of Honesty" (...what?).
*"Upgrade" is called "The Climb" (uh...okay).
*"Avalon" is called "Back to Avalon" for some reason.
*"Monsters" is called "The Monster of Lake Loch Ness."
*"Sanctuary" is called "The Refuge."
*"M.I.A." is called "Nothing Happens by Chance."
*"Grief is called "The Pain."
*"Walkabout" is called "The Sacred Journey" (yeah, I don't think there is an actual word for "walkabout" in Italian, is there?)
*Slight change from "Mark of the Panther" to "The Sign of the Panther."
*"Pendragon" is called "King Arthur."
*The Google translator may have gotten the one for "The New Olympians" wrong; I see no other explanation for it being called "The New Olympic."
*"The Green" is "The Forest."
*"Cloud Fathers" is called "The Value of Traditions."
*"Ill Met by Moonlight" is called "Meeting in the Moonlight" (thus we lost the Shakespeare quote)
*"Future Tense" is called "The Nightmare" (kind of a spoiler, that).
*"Vendettas"="Revenge". Remind me, where is the word "vendetta" derived from?
*"Turf" is called "War Between Gangs"...but if the "fra" is changed to "tra" it becomes "Gang War."
*"The Journey" is called "Friends or Enemies."
(I'm not doing the rest of TGC titles.)
I actually found this to be really interesting: how just a change of phrase or word, usually necessitated by a lack of a proper counterpart in the other language, can sometimes change the meaning of a title and thus the focus of an episode. But then, I'm weird that way.

Until next time! ****Blaise's arms turn into wings and he flies out through the skylight.****

Greg Bishansky> Probably not after her mother tried to kill the entire human race. And She probably also hates her mother for what she tried to do.
ShadowChild28 - [kendal.renfro@yahoo.com]

ShadowChild> The better question is, does she even want to speak to Demona. After "The Reckoning," I'm sure she did. After "Hunter's Moon," maybe not so much.
Greg Bishansky - [<--- Greg's Blog of Clue-by-Fours]
I don't want it to be illegal, therefore it isn't. That's how it works!

Greg Bishansky> No, she doesn't speak to Demona. Now that I think about it. Kind of hard for Angela to speak to her mother when she's in hiding.
ShadowChild28 - [Kendal.renfro@yahoo.com]

ShadowChild> Does Angela even speak to Demona? We haven't seen them talk since "The Reckoning" and the very next time they saw each other, Demona was about to commit mass genocide.

As for how she would feel about the relationship with Broadway, you nailed it.

Greg Bishansky - [<--- Greg's Blog of Clue-by-Fours]
I don't want it to be illegal, therefore it isn't. That's how it works!

I have a couple of questions about Demona. How would she find out about Angela's relationship with Broadway? I'm assuming Angela would tell her.

What would Demona's reaction to that bit of news be? First of all, Demona doesn't like Broadway because he's aligned against her but she's not exactly rooting for her daughter to be alone, either.

I think everybody should just ignore Jonny from now on. He's been asking the exact same question for years now and he's been given the exact same answer every time: "we don't know any more than you do".

I don't think anything we say or do at this point is going to change his behaviour or result in any meaningful communication. So let's just drop it and move on.

Oh man, the ultimate would be if all the people holding out for season 2 full set bought both volumes and that in turn caused disney to make a real Gargoyles movie.

Pipedreams, man. Pipedreams.

Lurker

BISHANSKY - I'd been wondering about all those new members as well.

And thanks for checking with Disney. I'd like to get the full 65-episode-set of "Gargoyles" on DVD, but I'm as cautious as you are about that announcement. We'll have to wait and see.

Todd Jensen

Called Walt Disney Home Entertainment. The operator confirmed tentative plans for more Gargoyles on DVD in 2012, but said she had no other information. I find it a tad more reassuring that an operator is saying these tentative plans exist out loud as opposed to just reading it in an e-mail. But having been disappointed by Disney before, I'm remaining cautiously skeptical.

With Weta Workshop handling the special effects. And, of course, Carl Johnson handling the soundtrack.

Android4: While you're right that such fanart is unlikely to sway anyone at Disney one way or another, I gotta say that both pieces turned out gorgeous, particularly the second. My compliments to the artist.

Other SpecGargs Formspring Fans: Probably my longest-running holdout since Talon, Mark Allan/Molten Man, has finally answered the "Greg Weisman" query after three straight months of waiting. Enjoy, all...

Molten Man: I wouldn't bet against his third season curse.

Incidentally, in other news (and since we were discussing it in some detail a couple weeks ago) I just finished "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" about ten minutes ago. Easily one of my favorite games of all time, and - as the franchise is rather wont to do - the ending blew me away. My only real complaint is that I wish
Demise
was a little tougher, but eh, still a fantastic finish. :D

Hello all,

I commissioned some original concept art made in an attempt to change Disney's mind about the direction of the Gargoyles live action movie. I love these characters and stories and there is to much potential for a great live action franchise to see it wasted.

Here are the two images
