...why does Disney even have to be involved?
Harlan Phoenix

It'll be renumbered as "Amazing Spider-Man" again in two years. Tops. Anyone who thinks this is the end of Peter Parker knows zilch about comics.
Greg Bishansky - [<--- Greg's Blog of Clue-by-Fours]
"For every two dozen Phantom Menaces, there is a Return of the King. For every two-bit Shyamalan, a Stanley Kubrick is born. For every poor soul who groans during an Adam Sandler-funded Rob Schneider vehicle, there is a child crying life-affirming tears when Bambi's mom is shot. Somewhere out there, a film student is finding out what Rosebud means for the first time. A man is pausing as Fredo prays the Hail Mary on a boat over Lake Tahoe. A woman grasps her heart as Bogie's love flies off into the foggy night. All it takes is one moment to change a person. And that one moment... no matter how fleeting... is worth a thousand Transformers."

I was going to ask about Spider Man here... why did they end it at #700? Was it Disney? Marvel? or just time?
Battle Beast - [Canada]
I did it! I watched all 485 Best picture nominees in 365 days!

Anthony> (i'm purposely being vague so as to not spoil anything for those waiting to actually read the comic) not having seen the comic, just based entirely on the news snippets/promos/etc i've seen about it.... i can appreciate the need to find new ways to evolve the character, but i'm not sure i really like the way they resolved it. Having said that, the repercussions and changes that will result from this will surely be interesting to watch.

Amazing Spiderman #700 thoughts?
Anthony Tini

I was a big fan of the Chronicles of Narnia when I was young. It is possible that that influence came in when I called it "Deeper magic". Really though, I call it that because it seems more mysterious and harder to access or control than the other forms. For instance, the Grimorum or the Eye of Odin are (or rather were) very powerful, but neither of them showed any inherent control of themselves, they were merely conduits and talismans. The Stone Of Destiny seems to laugh at the idea that it could be controlled or used that way.

Matt> As a Christian, and a HUGE fan of the Chronicles of Narnia...I find it interesting that you refer to the third branch as Deeper Magic. Since, in Narnia, Deep Magic was the rules of Magic that that governed Narnia and made it function. And the Deeper Magic was the inherent magic of Creation itself, that governed even Aslan, who WROTE the Deeper Magic.

The way I see it, and this is coming from an agnostic perspective, there are three... forms of magic in the Gargoyles Universe. Third Race magic (that involves the Third Race and their objects like Titania's Mirror), Mortal magic (that involves things like the Golem and the Grimorum) and a deeper magic (that involves things like angels and the Holy Grail and the Stone of Destiny and Megalith Dance). If some people want to call that deeper, older magic "God", thats their thing.

And I think all the forms are related. The deeper magic may be inherent to the Universe (or the Earth or the Holy Lands, etc.). A branch of that "evolved" into the third Race and their form of magic and mortals harnessed elements of both into their own form of magic.

And of course there is the magic of the Lost Race presumably. I think that was closely connected to the deeper magic.

Todd> Yes, I am aware of the Stone's stories being purely Old Testament. Thus my use of the phrase 'Judeo-Christian' instead of just 'Christian'.

Yes, Greg hasn't denied the Grail's Christian links, but neither has he called attention to them either. The scene in which the Grail appears focuses on its Arthurian trappings (Carbonek and the Fisher Kings). I suspect that's how Greg will treat the Grail if he does more stories; never bringing up (to either confirm or deny) its connections with Jesus. (Note, by the way, that all the biblical elements in the Stone of Destiny's story as told by Shari were from the Old Testament.)

Hufflepuffs are great finders

Todd> That doesn't mean that it isn't a Christian artifact in the Gargoyles Universe. If it's friends with the Stone of Destiny...That implies something of a connection. The Judeo-Christian backstories of both artifacts seems the obvious connection (Till Greg proves us wrong, anyway.)

Beyond that, I will say nothing, as a practicing and believing Christian, my opinion on the matter is self-evident and biased.

BISHANSKY - [We know the Holy Grail exists]

And the Grail's more Arthurian than Christian. It first turned up in an Arthurian tale ("Perceval" by Chretien de Troyes), as a wonder-working object. It didn't get connected to Jesus and the Last Supper until later, and never became part of official Christian theology (the Church ignored the story). I'd say that the Grail belongs in the same category as Excalibur and the Round Table, rather than the Spear of Destiny or the Crown of Thorns. (Though there's been some attempt at a "de-Arthurianized" Grail with the focus on its links to Jesus, in such works as "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" and "The Da Vinci Code".)247366

PAUL> You're never going to get an answer to that question. As has been said, all things are true... but few are accurate. We know the Holy Grail exists, we know there are plans for the Spear of Destiny and the Crown of Thorns.

Does a larger deity exist in the Gargoyles Universe? Greg has indicated yes. Is it the Judeo-Christian God? Not necessarily. But they're going to be vague.

Did Jesus Christ exist in the Gargoyles Universe? Again, all signs point to yes. Was he the son of God? For very obvious reasons, you won't get an answer to that. Aside from the fact that Greg Weisman is Jewish, the Gargoyles Universe is built in a way so that you can take these things however you interpret them. Pick your poison, as it were.

How powerful is the Judeo-Christian God and Jesus Christ in the Gargoyles Universe? Well... how powerful do you want them to be? Keep in mind that in the Radio Play (while not canon, Weisman did mention that elements of it might some day become canon) that the powers of the Spear of Destiny and the Crown of Thorns had no affect on gargoyles (and at the Blue Mug later that night, Greg also said that he enjoyed that aspect of it, if I recall correctly... so I would expect to see that again).

But, maybe these will help:

I'm fairly sure that Greg said that God isn't a Child of Oberon. Meaning that Jesus wouldn't be part-Child of Oberon either.

I kind of wonder... how powerful are God or Jesus in the Gargoyles universe compared to Oberon?

#10 in the name of the fact that the whole biblical christmas story is probably true in the Garguniverse and sounds like a story that should be told by Shari.

The Last of the Spirits

The Phantom slowly, gravely, silently approached. When it came, Scrooge bent down upon his knee; for in the very air through which this Spirit moved it seemed to scatter gloom and mystery...
