Last but not least!

And that episode featured Gladstone Gander, a familiar foil to Donald Duck in Carl Barks' work.

One of the things that most delighted me about the original "DuckTales" was its use of those characters from the Donald Duck comics (going back to Barks) - Gyro Gearloose, Magica de Spell, the Beagle Boys, etc. - probably the first time they'd appeared in animation rather than on the comics page. As a boy living in England, I subscribed to a Disney comic magazine called "Mickey Mouse" which featured those characters regularly, so it brought back memories seeing them on the small screen. (I gave my issues away many years ago during a spring-cleaning - I regret that now, since they included a peculiarity that engages me. Because it was printed for a UK audience, all the references to U. S. money in the strips were changed to British currency - Scrooge's No. 1 Dime was even renamed his "Lucky Penny".)

Caught the new episode of DuckTales today, marking the first time in a few years I've actually watched a Saturday morning cartoon on an actual Saturday morning.
Something I've noticed is that this show is pretty good with it's depiction of Chinese mythology in culture.
The last episode has Huey referring to the dragon in the pilot as a "Pixiu." A gold eating monster from China. And today's villain, Liu Hai, is a reference to the legendary Liu Haichan, who was said to have been accompanied by a "Money Toad."

There is new a Gabriel Knight story by Jensen available in comic form (from 2015), if somebody have not already read it:

Warning! It contais spoilers to games, so it should be read after playing them.

In the interest of educating those who might not know what FMV means, it stands for Full Motion Video, and the best analogy I can think of is that "Full Motion Video" is to video games as "live action" is to movies and TV shows. From what I understand about this subject, the actors would act out their parts on video, in settings recorded on video, rather than having the characters and settings animated (as is the norm in video games).

Matthew> Ah, LucasArts vs. Sierra - The old "war" of adventure games (I was a double agent myself).

But yeah, like Aldrius said, the Maniac Mansion games are pretty much the antithesis of the Gabriel Knight series. However, if you'd rather something comedic like DotT, I also have the Space Quest series, but that lacks the Curry.

Paul> Frankly, the CGI of note in The Beast Within already looked terrible at the time, so it kinda couldn't age well by design. But yeah, The Beast Within is a quite decent FMV game. If you're curious about other decent series in the style, I recommend the Tex Murphy series and The Journeyman Project games (though there are quite a few others as well).

There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

After some quick mental math, I guess I'm TENTH.

Jeff: This response that Greg posted last month might answer your question...

He hasn't given up on Rain, which is absolutely his passion project. But he also makes his living as a writer, and has a family to provide for. It's unfair of us to expect him to prioritize a work like Rain - which, at this point, won't be able to continue without some measure of investment of his OWN money in self-publishing - over the stuff that puts food on his table.

It'll come, and I'm definitely looking forward to more. But in the meantime, we just gotta be patient.

It's a feeling we Weismaniacs are certainly used to at this point, LOL.

"Try me." - Samus Aran

Well, the CGI in the second Gabriel Knight game hasn't aged particularly well either, but at least there isn't very much of it. Most of the game is FMV, and I hear it's unusually good for an FMV game.

JEFF - Sorry, but this isn't "Ask Greg". Greg Weisman rarely comes here; he uses "Ask Greg" to answer questions. You'll find it in the link above.

I've said this before, but we really need to make it clearer that "Ask Greg", and not the comment room, is where questions to Greg Weisman need to be submitted.

Day of the Tentacle is pretty much the exact opposite of the Gabriel Knight series.

It's actually kind of amazing to me how well the Gabriel Knight series holds up (third game's production problems notwithstanding), especially given how many different mediums it explored.

By the way, would anyone take an exception to me posting the short soliloquy audio series I'm working on here?

Aldrius

I saw you at the Chicago Comic Con.2016 and purchased the "Rain of Ghosts" audio book and loved it. I didn't see you at the Con. in 2017 to purchase the 2nd book and now i read you are not going to complete the series. What a Let Down!!
Please reconsider?

By the way, Matthew, if you want a bit of a demo of the Gabriel Knight games that came up last week, lemme know. I could screenshare over Skype or Discord if you want to check them out.
