ALGERNON - I'd completely forgotten that quote. Thanks for mentioning it.

(According to Don Rosa, Scrooge McDuck's ancestors gave Macbeth shelter from his enemies at their castle in 1057. To show his gratitude, he gave the head of the clan, Sir Quackly McDuck, a big chest of treasure; unfortunately, Sir Quackly, while sealing the treasure up within one of the castle walls for safekeeping, accidentally sealed himself inside with it, followed by Macbeth's capture.)

ALGERNON - English imperialism, in Macbeth's case. ("English" and "British" are separate things - as a proud Scotsman like Macbeth would point out.)
Todd Jensen

TODD> I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Sevarius could rock the Pipe Organ as well as James Mason. ;)

Though seriously, I think the Garg character who most closely resembles Verne's Nemo is Macbeth. Both are monarchs who lost their families and homelands to British Imperialism. Both are antagonists who nonetheless have noble aspects and a strict code of honor

Yes, I noticed the "Gummi Bears" reference as well. That was certainly a pleasant surprise.

A couple of trivia bits connected to the Carl Barks Scrooge McDuck ocmics (and Don Rosa as Barks' successor):

1. Scrooge McDuck indeed liked nutmeg tea in the comics.

2. Carl Barks did indeed do a story featuring a unicorn (Donald and his nephews went searching for a unicorn for Scrooge's private zoo - with Gladstone Gander as a competitor) - a really fierce unicorn, at that.

Todd Jensen

So the new Ducktales episode is just a packed with references, from Darkwing Duck, 60's spy thrillers like the Avengers and the Prisoner, classic Ducktales (Jack the Tripper, now that's an obscure one) and most surprising of all the Gummi Bears.

On further thought, maybe Sevarius does have a bit more in common with Captain Nemo than I'd originally stated, in light of that Nessie-submarine in "Monsters".

MATTHEW/TODD: This conversation is so ridiculously wonderful to Algernon and myself, you have no idea. XD

MATTHEW - Nah, Sevarius doesn't fit the role of Captain Nemo enough.

Huh, I was thinking more along the lines of Jules Verne.

Sevarius's "mysterious island" - now I'm expecting him to eagerly make allusions to Dr. Moreau.

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

Forgot to mention, but if anyone's looking for some good fanfic recs, our very own Masterdramon recently published the first chapter of a whole new mystery/adventure starring the Elisa, Goliath, the Mutates and a certain not so good doctor...

The Island by Masterdramon

It's the summer of '97, and the Labyrinth Clan is preparing to welcome the newest member of its family. But the firstborn child of two mutates is bound to attract some unwanted attention. Soon enough, Dr. Sevarius' latest scheme may be the least of their worries, as an unseen watcher chooses this moment to strike...and to spirit the entire "birthing party" to his mysterious island.

So, Anthony's Customs has upgraded the Demona custom figure some of you may have seen in the past. I've actually commissioned several custom Gargoyles figures from him over the last several years. Here's what I've got so far.
