Matthew: Potential
Triptych's are defintely part of Weisman's wheelhouse -- he's long described the Avalon three-parter as a triptych as well. Flashback of our heroes, Flashback of our villains, then the big battle now that everyone's caught up.

It's also not the only triptych for YJ -- GregW has also described the season one episodes 21-23 as his 'triptych of mole episodes ' -- https://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=15536
I should point out a mistake I made, turns out Geo-Force's first nickname wasn't Lava Burn, it was much lamer. In the meantime...
S3 ep. 8-Triptych
I can usually draw what the episode's about from the title but I didn't know what Triptych meant, so I was surprised to learn it applies to art. Three pictures that when placed close together make up a whole picture. Which I find quite appropriate considering the three seemingly unrelated pieces are all connected to each other (though shown in reverse to throw the audience off, very Quintin Tarantino-esue). Three investigations lead to the arrest of Simon Stagg and most importantly the three stories lead up to the reveal that the Justice League, Batman Inc. and the Outsiders are secretly collaborating and working together to tackle another form of meta-human trafficking.

Honestly I love this episode and the implications of it. It feels like the older League members like Bruce and Diana have taken a page out of Nightwing and Kaldur's book from last season and are using deception to combat the Light, because for all the drama it caused last season it really did work. Plus they've all obviously learned from last season and instead of just a couple of people who know the big picture, it's made up of the leaders and close associates and if one or two people are compromised the whole thing doesn't risk falling apart. Though Diana does put up a good question about how many of them are willing to lie for the greater good. And considering how this series does with secrets and lies, how long before this secret gets out?

There's some pretty good action pieces, I love how that Shade really got to show off and he really is the "Master of Darkness" compared to other series. Brion's definitely improved and has better control over his powers, though still prone to rushing ahead. Halo's shown off another power which I'm sure will be important in the future. And Cassandra Cain's just as silent but deadly as she should be.

This was also a good look into Jade, while she's moved up morally from assassin to thief and actually does care about her team, even freeing Shade from his mind control, it is tragic that she feels caught up in her role as Cheshire so much so that she's distancing herself from Lian.

Some last things, we know Metamorpho is going to be here in the future and considering his connection to Simon Stagg does that mean Shade kidnapped him instead of presumably killing him? Or is he somehow connected to that Reach meta-pod shown off earlier. And considering we've seen Dr. Stone and Victor Stone was name dropped last episode, will we be seeing Cyborg in the future?
Also Dwight Schultz was having way too much fun this episode.

Training and backstory time! S3 ep. 7-Evolution
So Vandal Savage's backstory is pretty much the same as it was in the comics though they pretty much confirmed he's the progenitor of meta-humans on earth, the use of his daughter (I wonder if she'll take up the name Scandal Savage like she did in the comics) reading the story of his life provided by his other daughter was a nice framing device. And as shown in the flashbacks was a hero in the past, in fact he fought alongside a previous incarnation of Dr. Fate. Not to mention the reveal that Savage knew how Starro would take over the minds of others because not only has he faced Starro before but he's the reason it was frozen in the first place.

Most importantly it also frames what the relationship between the Light and Darkseid is shown, Vandal's probably the only person to survive Darkseid's Omega Beams and Desaad's interest in super humans led to the formation of their alliance. I like how both seem to know that the other will betray them the moment one side drops their guard.

On another note, it was nice to see the Outsiders start to get better in their teamwork, learn the maneuvers the team came up with back in Season 1 and officially getting their code names. And yes, Geo-Force is much better than Lava Burn.

Finally, David Kaye does a great impression of Miguel Ferrer (though I thought it might've been Lance Henrikson at first). He really nailed the quiet and sophisticated yet savage and threatening tone Miguel originally brought to the role. All in all, a good in memoriam episode for Miguel.
Apologies for doubling up, but for any who are curious, my synopsis for the last Radio Play, "Episode Four: Musicology 101: Songs of the Theme," aka the first Radio Musical, is more or less complete on Gargwiki (while I have the full cast list, it's not labeled with roles, so I can't pair all that many yet).

There is balance in all things. Live in symmetry with the world around you. If you must blow things up and steal from those around you, THAT'S WHAT RPGS ARE FOR!

Algernon> Hey, better the
geo-force meta-gene
than the
Hapsburg chin
.

Deplorable and loving it!

Matthew>
The geo-force meta-gene actually isn't from the Markov family, it's from the DeLamb family since Baron Bedlam has it as well. And if you're actually questioning whether or not that's Jason, check Josh Keaton's credits (and be prepared to groan).
Here are my thoughts on Season THREE episode 6-Rescue OP
So it seems we'll definitely Terra this season judging by that feminine looking silhouette at the beginning of the episode, that and she Willie E. Coyote-d that poor guy with a boulder. And judging by Sensei's cryptic remarks, I don't think she's being controlled like the other kidnapped meta-humans, should make for a dramatic reunion.
I'd like to point out that I really like how they played with the meta-gene for the Markov family. Terra has traditional geokinesis, Baron Bedlam's body is made of stone and Brion can manipulate magma. Helps diversify things so each feels pretty different.
Also Black Spider made mention of "the bosses." Makes me wonder if he's worked up the ladder enough to be privy to more of the Light's secrets, or at least that he knows he works for more than just the League of Shadows.

With each new episode the more that's revealed about Halo, the more it confirms Algernon's theory considering she was able to effortlessly recite the details of New Genesis despite never being there.

I like how they make references to the first mission to Cadmus, and how different things have gone for them. While the first team had a pretty good sense of their powers and abilities as well as some experience. The Outsiders have little experience and are still working out their powers. Also, is Halo being suddenly and dramatically killed going to be a running gag?
And finally, after the huge revelation we're left to wonder, was that baby Damien? Was that Jason Todd? And who's taken Ra's al Ghul's spot as not only the head of the League of Shadow's but also in the Light?
Some say Talia, some say Cheshire based on Ra's response, and others say it might be Deathstroke and he fulfilled his claim to take a seat at their table, but only time will tell.
