Wild Gargoyle Theories (Hatched in Quarantine)

Gargoyles Fan Theory Thread:

•Goliath and Elisa will adopt neither human or gargoyle. They’ll adopt a New Olympian or a mixed Third Race being like Fox or Alex.

•Hudson will finally get an archenemy. Hopefully somebody we’ve never seen before.Jack Dane even?

•Peredur Fab Ragnal is the son of Fleur and Mr. Duval. (Greg never lied that Duval was Percival.)

•Demona will go on her own quest due to the shard of The Praying Gargoyle, perhaps to protect another clan. (Knowing her, they’ll probably die too.)

•Tea Gora will join The Redemption Squad to atone for her poaching. Quickly, Coldsteel, Proteus, Jackal, Tasmanian Tiger, Glasses and others will join, but quit.

•Brentwood uses cybernetics to make himself smarter, and masterminds The Ultra-Pack, The Master Matrix and The Siege of New Olympus.

•Bronx needs some love. And a cool subplot. He’s gonna eat some Quarrymen. Also, Wolf lurks.

•Xanatos and Fox never truly reform, but honor their loyalty to The Manhattan Clan. Not above using them though. Especially against Fox’s family.

•Jason Canmore turns to religion while he recovers and joins Lennox Macduff as an apologist for Gargoyles. (This makes him an Illuminati target. Thailog and Castaway both make moves.) Unfortunately, Jason’s god turns out to be Oberon.

•Broadway and Angela mentor people in The Labyrinth, reading to them and teaching them to read. Maggie gets jealous of the attention because, ironically, she only became a star in The Labyrinth after becoming a Mutate.

•Lex develops a drug problem after things with Amp stagnate. Fox gets him clean. At a price.

•Brooklyn faces PTSD after all his Timedancing. He exorcises these demons by joining Brod’s underground fighting rings. And cheats on Katana.

•The blood samples that Thailog extracted from The Manhattan Clan were not to make more clones. They were to create DNA-specific viruses that could control the existing clones. Brentwood gets his family back.

•Delilah is also recruited into The Redemption Squad. Where else could she go now? Coyote 7.0 has a counter-offer.

•The Golem was not the first time that Renard sacrificed his vaunted integrity. The Illuminati has come to collect. Vogel turns to Dominic Dracon?

•The Tricksters crash Natsilane and Beth Maza’s wedding. Owen is able to become Puck to protect Alex. Coyote The Trickster gives Peter Maza a gift.

•Arthur Pendragon and Sir Griff receive a cold welcome at Avalon. Someone on the island knows where Merlin is, but won’t say.

•After centuries, Macbeth finally locates Castle Carbonek. But it’s modern times and he has a nuke.

•The Banshee gains permission to leave Avalon to train Rory Dugan. Rory tours the world, forming a group of heroes, as The Space Spawn watch.

•Dingo and The Hunter get married. Nobody crashes, but two other originals leave the team.

•Coldfire gets hacked by Busido Concepts. Sevarius and Taro should watch out for Coldstone.

•Shari shares a story with Alex. Is it a prophecy or a dream?

•Bluestone and Hyena do not get married.

•Diane Maza is able to comfort her son during his time of loss and he is finally able to start dealing with his anger issues. They grow closer.

•Vinnie is knighted.

What are your wild, quarantine Gargoyles theories?

Thanks Todd, always appreciate it.
And it was the previous episode "Reinforcements" where he mentioned to Kraven that he had bad experiences with cats, still embarrassing that I didn't get the kitty litter joke until like my fourth viewing.

MATTHEW - Thanks for the latest episode review. As I mentioned before, my memories of the Season Two episodes of "The Spectacular Spider-Man" are mostly cloudy, but your mention of Sandman growing to gigantic size thanks to the beach sounded familiar. (I recall - though I don't know if it was this episode or another - Sandman commenting about having had some unfortunate experiences with cats.)

Watched "First Steps" today, rather aptly named as we not only start a few brand new arcs but the first steps in new relationships and the first steps in Sandman becoming a better person.

One thing I really liked about this episode was the use of the characters speaking on camera and foreshadowing future events, like Rand's no-so subtle displeasure about his relationship but is still too nice to break things off foreshadows Gwen and Harry's relationship. It's a great framing device and we'll see another example of this in a couple of episodes when the characters are trying out for theater. Speaking of framing devices, I like that the episode is filled with blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments with Eddie, really playing off of Peter's paranoia before it leads to Eddie's reunion with the Symbiote. I wondered how Eddie was able to keep popping up where Pete was before I remembered that with access to the Symbiote's memories he probably knows the routes Spider-Man likes to take when web-slinging. Plus it looks like he developed a homemade version of the webshooters himself (Symbiote probably instructed him).

In other matters of first steps, we get our first look into Liz's home life with the introduction of her big brother Mark and the little hints to his own misdeeds and his insistence that he's past that. Though that's not going to be around for long. Keeping up with the theme of making up for past mistakes, Harry's back. I like how his presence creates a strong sense of unease in Peter who even imagines him as the Goblin at one point, helps feed into his paranoia later in the episode. Though like Mark we see a genuine effort on his part to be better than he previously was, even openly thanking Gwen for her support and attempts to help him. It's a nice character piece and actually builds on the believability that the two could make a good couple. Shame though.

One thing I've mentioned before is that I'm glad Greg found creative ways to escalate threats from episode to episode, and Sandman shows this off pretty well. In his first appearance he's doing pretty basic stuff and now he's not only shapeshifting into objects like a guillotine but is also able to get the drop on him three different times at the museum fight. And that's not even getting into transforming into a colossal size thanks to absorbing a beach.

Too often in shows villains sort of hit this one note and never really capture their first menace. On the other end of the spectrum, stuff like anime will keep upping the villain stakes until the heroes are practically fighting God and the tension starts to disappear. But we found a pretty good balance here, Sandman improves his abilities until he reaches a peak which is also the episode where he gives up the life. Or at least drops his animosity with Spider-Man.

Spider-Man really shows off the kind of fortitude that's been building up all season, last episode he battles freezing temperatures and deadlifts a ton of machinery straight off his back and now he's not backing away from his biggest fight yet, quite literally. But I think the best of his moments this episode was when he tore Sandman a new one for continuing to act like a petty thug even with all his powers.

Even after sucker-punching him it's pretty clear that words struck a chord. Which makes his interactions with Hammerhead pretty interesting; see even after his transformation he took dutiful position to the guy despite the fact that he could flatten him easily. And that's the great dichotomy of Flint Marko: powerful yet submissive, uneducated but pretty clever, thuggish yet honorable, uncomplicated yet deep, mercenary yet ultimately heroic. I really wanted to see where the series went with him after this episode when he ultimately decided that he didn't have to prove anything to anyone. Hammerhead's comment that Marko will always be a mook, proves to be pretty ironic considering what happens to him later on.

Some Final Thoughts: The romantic drama takes a new chapter as several characters find themselves in relationships and Flash finds himself single. It's interesting that his initial interest in Sha Shan is pretty superficial, being that she's cute and he wants to get back at Peter and Liz. Though I imagine he's got to be kicking himself if he never realized that he lived just around the corner from MJ. Flash is also a great source of comedy this episode, from his childish sulking, cartoonish facial expressions and the fact that Pete spills the beans on how he got his nickname.
We get another Gargoyles reference as Peter ponders on how he's supposed to beat up a beach. The scene where Flint makes a giant sandcastle for the little girl is actually from the comics which led to the theory that she's actually Keemia Alvarado, Sandman's estranged daughter. There's a couple of good references here, the Urn of Morpheus references the fact that Morpheus is where the sandman figure is supposed to have originated and the radio playing during Flash's party makes reference to The Chordettes, who performed the '50's classic "Mr. Sandman." A nice touch making Harry's convertible the exact shade of lime green as the Goblin. We get another New York landmark with Rockaway Beach in Queens, pretty clever to have the heist set there so Spidey could get to it quickly. Though being a Californian I hear Rockaway and I immediately think of the place in Pacifica. And finally, we see both Captain Stacy and St. John Devereaux joining the Mid-Town cast, the latter I was surprised about until I remembered Gloria mentioning that it had the highest Theater pull in the state, so it stands to reason a Broadway legend would show up.

Favorite Lines:
Sandman: Now THIS is what I call a big score!
Spider-Man: Funny, thought you had to know how to count before you could keep score.

Sandman: Gee... d'you really think I could be a hero like you?
Spider-Man: Well... yeah. With great power comes great-
Sandman: -gullibility!

Spider-Man: Wow, Sandy. I know a basketball team that could really use a guy your size. Can you dribble or do you just drool?
Sandman: Mostly I slam dunk!

Spider-Man: You wanted a big score Marko? Far as I'm concerned you just scored as big as a man can.

Thanks Chip, I won't plead the Fifth in return.
Bringing up what Todd mentioned last week, it would be interesting for Spider-Man and the clan to swap their own hunter stories. Being chased around by masked creeps with more weapons than sense is all to familiar to Spidey. While Kraven's genetic alteration brings to mind Sevarius and would be a sore spot for the Gargoyles.

Hi Mr. Weisman. I have a question for you:

I don't know if you are aware, but in the "Early Warning" episode of Whelmed: The Young Justice Files (back in Oct. 2019) the host quoted you on something you told him in conversation. This is something that used to happen now and then, but lately it happens in almost every episode: "Greg texted me this", "Brandon emailed me that", "Greg/Brandon told me whatever", etc.

So, looking at your 2-year-7-month-and-8-day backlog of 1172 questions, I'm wondering: why are you giving BTS information to this one person while the rest of your fanbase has to submit questions and wait months (at least) or YEARS (worst case and more likely scenario) for an answer???? It must be really cool to be so intimate and chummy with one's idol, and I bet the host feels super important and validated, but this is some double standard bullshit!

Are you aware of this? And if you are, how can you be okay with it? Don't you think this is unfair? You have thousands of fans who support your work whichever way they can, but 99.9% of them have never even met you in person, let alone exchanged emails or text messages with you.

If I make an entire podcast dedicated to kissing your asses, will I earn the same privileges? Will I be able to ask all my questions without a waiting queue? Will I get to hang out with you, have lunch together or exchange personal contacts?

(Originally I posted this on AskGreg, but then I decided I shouldn't have to wait 2 years for an answer, for all the reasons above.)
