If we're talking obscure characters - like I've said before, I'd love to see Willow Zimmerman/Whistle show up on the Team. Her arc about conflict between her drive to do good, help people, and love her community, and her willingness to compromise her principles to protect people she cares about (even knowing those people wouldn't approve of what she's doing), is really interesting to me. Plus, her dog-powers are useful, but more for giving her more tools in her kit; none of them are winning a fight or solving a mystery for her, that's all down to her brains and determination. Plus, y'know, it's nice to have a Jewish character in DC besides Harley and Kate, when their authors remember to use that for more than a joke in a Christmas special.

Aside from them... I still think it'd be cool to get Amethyst of Gemworld involved. I was hoping with Child and Flaw she might appear as one of Phantom Stranger's phone-a-friends, but no dice. I like the idea of a teen hero on the Team or Outsiders who, sure, has powers, but who mainly works in a completely different genre from the rest of them - plus I had fun with her short-lived time on Young Justice in the comics back in 2019. I like swords-and-sorcery epic heroes running into the more modern type, what can I say? If Starfire ever shows up, I'm hoping they'll tap into that sort of thing with her too - that was part of her original conflict with the rest of the Teen Titans, as I recall.

While I should keep out of this (since I haven't watched Seasons Three or Four of "Young Justice"), I wouldn't mind a guest appearance from the cast of "Gotham Academy" (the only DC Comics property I've followed) - though since Greg's mentioned that he hasn't read it, I doubt it'll happen.
One other thing in the season finale that struck me. Luz "offers" to serve as a guide to Philip in modern-day Earth; it was just a ruse, of course, but apparently she'll be doing that after all, only to her friends from the Boiling Isles instead. I wonder if they had that in mind when they wrote this episode.
Todd Jensen
Unless that's what the first special is about.
Saw it on DisneyNow the moment it turned midnight on Saturday, lol.
Don't have much to add, but I was thinking that King being a Titan would have been more in play. Guess that tidbit might still be relevant for our final episodes/specials.

Oh, and who could have anticipated the Chekhov Dismemberings with Eda?
I don't know how many other people here watched the season finale of "The Owl House" this morning, but here's a few thoughts I had on it.
1. Luz correctly calls Belos/Philip a hypocrite. He's used magic to power an anti-magic crusade - without even offering any justification of that. (I suspect that his campaign to wipe out the inhabitants of the Boiling Isles was fueled less by a moral disapproval of magic than by their being "the other".) Even if he could have gone back to his own time period, I doubt his neighbors and colleagues would have been too thrilled with his actions; they'd have had no problems with exterminating the denizens of the Boiling Isles, but would have rejected him as just another witch, contaminated by the evil he sought to stamp out, and might even have tried marching him off to the gallows.

2. I got a kick out of the news story glimpsed in Luz's home about Anne and whether her time in Amphibia was a hoax or not. But it was not only funny, but appropriate; Season Two of "The Owl House" is ending in a similar way to Season Two of "Amphibia". In both cases, the main character, an Earth girl visiting another world, makes it back home - but it can only be a temporary return, because there's some big trouble going on back in that other world (which includes the defeat of the earlier antagonist being followed by the rise of an even bigger threat), meaning that she'll have to return, but the way back is blocked at present - and she brought some of her friends to Earth with her, who'll now be the "strangers in a strange land". I wonder if that might have influenced the inclusion of that Easter Egg. (The two shows do seem on good terms with each other; they even did a special crossover "radio play" which had Luz and Eda visiting Amphibia and meeting Anne and the Plantars; Anne and Luz become friends - and Eda lifts Hop Pop's wallet.)

3. I'd originally thought that the truncated third season might have been a better idea than a full third season, since I'd suspected that we'd have some big shake-up at the end of this season that would leave little room for side-stories, and what the Collector intends for the Boiling Isles clearly matches that description. But after seeing Luz and her friends stuck on Earth, I'd say there'd definitely have been a lot of room for "side episodes" after all, with Willow, Gus, Amity and Hunter now being the ones having to adjust to life in another world (just like the Plantars in the first half of Season Three of "Amphibia"), and we could have gotten some fun little stories. I can picture Luz taking them to the zoo to see the giraffes, and her friends puzzling over how matter-of-fact humans are about those creatures - or, if they were stuck on Earth long enough, how they'd respond to Halloween. (And I suspect a lot of viewers would have hoped for another "special holiday episode" - in this case, Valentine's Day for Luz and Amity.) And, on a more serious note, that blob-remain of Belos that attached itself to Hunter.... Still, I'm hoping that the three specials we do get will do a fine job of wrapping up the story.

The funniest part of the episode was J'emm interrupting Tinya two or three times.

Apropos to nothing but I love how J'emm refers to Tinya calling herself Phantom Girl as being "in the style of your world" like he just assumes all Earthlings have flashy codenames. :D
Well dang, thank goodness for that credit scene because I sure needed that.
Y'know, I know Danny is widely considered one of those characters nobody likes, but geez. Part of me wonders if they used him for this just so there'd be one likable and sympathetic version of him... or if someone on the crew had a grudge. Well, hopefully M'comm didn't totally erase him, and he can get a prosthetic, um, body? Cyborg and Halo can probably fix something up, I hope.

And all the pieces are coming together, at last. Nearly everyone is in the same place and on the same page! We just need the Team kids to get the memo and come through, now. I'm also glad that everyone seems fully aware Conner has gotten messed around hard, and are only concerned for him - I know that's a very low bar, but there's definitely plenty of storylines like this where a brainwashed character's friends don't seem to realize their friend isn't in their right mind and take the 'betrayal' personally. I also liked how Conner keeps remembering things, and pausing at the others as soon as they reminded him of anything, and how it's Zod yanking hard on his sense of stability that gets him to obey. That bit where he said he'd assume the risk - that's just a noble sounding way of saying 'don't think or use your judgement, just trust me.'

And augh, poor Conner. We've had a question in the queue for months about how the chest wounds might be a reference to a storyline where Conner had to stay in the zone or die - well, I don't know if that was on the writers' minds for this plot, but between that, the mention that wounds don't heal in the zone, and Phantom Girl's burn, I should've seen that last bit coming - and unfortunately the red sun means Conner is just as vulnerable to third degree burns and open gaping wounds as anyone else. (isn't that a sentence.)

The Zone fight was good - but gosh, I'd love to see a true-color version of it, everything being blue made it kinda hard to follow on first watch. I did like Kaldur taking command again, though, it's been way too long.

And finally... oh, Lor. Well, he's shown up with a Zod crest and he does seem to have his mother's face, so I suspect Zod will at least be open to the idea that this is his kid long enough for an explanation. Still, I wonder if just-out-of-the-Zone Zod will disappoint Lor somehow, if he's expecting his father. Zod's excellent at manipulation, though, and clearly has his father figure routine down pat, so probably not, but something there could throw a spanner in the works.

What else... so, OK, I do feel somewhat more sure the last shot of the season will be Kara, or will be Jason rolling into town. Either/or. And I'm kinda wondering if poor Danny and Motherbox's agony will alert Halo and Cyborg - and hey, then they'd have a healer on hand to keep Conner alive. Maybe not, though, there's already so many people here. It was nice to see Orion again, helping out, and I liked he checked in with Danny before they started the synchronizing plan. He's probably quite familiar with how nasty Apokoliptan tech can get.

And... yeah I think that's everything! Oh, and Teekl 2 was cute. I guess Klarion is hanging out with his dear old buddy this week. On the Warworld. This can only end well.
Well things are finally starting to converge. Some quick thoughts on episode 24 "Zenith and Abyss"
You know, I've never been a fan of Danny Chase. He was always so obnoxious in the comics. But Jesus Christ no one deserves that.

Man, this episode was bringing once false hope after another with Phantom Girl and M'gann's efforts and the Team's excursion into the Zone. I almost thought they had something there with the memory flashbacks, but dang. That conditioning is just too strong right now.

This may be the most unique fight we've had in the series with Zod's followers having mastered the power of intangibility while in the Zone. Shame Nightwing had to blow that last chance with the kryptonite, a radioactive fragment isn't going to do you any good if there isn't a tangible body comprised of cells to affect. I've got a nasty feeling that shard is going to come back in the worst way.

So it looks like our finale will almost certainly take place on this new planet. This will be interesting with the Cult of Zod lacking any powers but backed up by Lor and M'comm (and someone beat the **** out of him already). But the Team ready to turn the tides with actual working weapons this time.

Can't wait to see how this turns out.
1. And additionally Luz basically gets her Princess (Amity), so two foreshadows.

2. I mean Hunter still gets a bit of romance something we weren't sure was going to happen. Heck Lilith was confirmed in the charity stream and I think by Dana to be Acesexual.

And something to consider given some speculation that might be true about Hunter:
- Being cloned from Philip's brother who might be Flapjack's original and have the name Caleb (The name FJ suggested for Hunter in Any Sport in a Storm). Part of that is guess due to Bird based Palismen being a Clawthorne thing.

- His attraction to Willow might be reflect Caleb's preferences in having a strong partner. A Clawthorne at that meaning that Hunter is in fact tied to Eda.

- Also Hunter being the closest to looking like Caleb, and falling for a witch. Something hinted to be betrayal in Belos' eyes. Otherwise he probably ships Hunter with only trauma, pain and death.
Antiyonder

Sorry for the double post, but one other thought on "The Owl House". In the first episode, Luz was shown trying out for "Romeo and Juliet" (and getting too enthusiastic about performing Juliet's death-scene). Given the hostility of Amity's mother towards Luz, I'm now wondering if that was intended as foreshadowing.
Todd Jensen

We also got major changes (if far less romantic in tone) from Lilith and Hunter.
Hunter's name, incidentally, combined with the Titan-hunting organization that turned out to be another of the Collector's schemes, stand out to me all the more after that rewatch of "Gargoyles" I did for its 25th anniversary, when I noted how often human hostility towards gargoyles was described in terms of hunting - and which gave new perspective on the build-up to "Hunter's Moon". Now, I don't think that the "Owl House" production team had that in mind - the imagery of hunters as menacing figures has been around for a long time - but it still feels fitting, especially since both the Titan-huntsmen and Emperor Belos, whom Hunter used to serve (and who calls himself a "witch hunter"), definitely strike me as having the kind of mentality that, if they'd been in a different Disney animated universe, would have definitely encouraged them to hunt down gargoyles with the same gusto as the Canmores did.
As I recall, my thoughts went from 'aw, Amity's so easily worked up, there's probably going to be some good fanfiction or fanart about her and Luz later' to 'huh, that scene with the oath being undone was nice, she's warming up a lot faster than I thought' to 'wow, wait, that scene with her diary, are they actually going to imply Amity's into Luz?' And then, well, they did. I thought they'd be cute for a while (strong reactions make for an engaging onscreen relationship, and they make really good foils to each other) but I hadn't thought Disney would actually let the crew do that sort of thing, I thought it'd have to stay ambiguous.

And same on Mist and Livewire - especially with
those looks they were giving each other being right after Halo talked about romance issues?
I hope we get a story about them meeting someday - maybe if we get more comics, those are a good place to flesh out the supporting cast.

(Also, it's the longest of shots, but I'm still kinda hoping that since we know Fire and Ice are both in the League, they're actually together-together this time. It feels like some continuity doing that is only a matter of time, y'know?)

Also especially cause of her comment about not dating Earth males, Penumbra and Della Duck from DuckTales 2017 is another non-canon pairing I go for.

And it's kind of fitting for someone in the Duck family to engage in such relation with someone originally off-planet.

Huey, Dewey and Louie would likely be excited to have a Step Mom from the Moon:-D.

On that note, I'd be remiss not to mention that I've rewatched the
Violet/Harper
scenes in "Ego and Superego" something like 20 times now. My fanfics continue to be validated, as it should be!!! :D

Also was happy to see that my low-key top background OTP for this show
Livewire/Mist got a further bit of hinting in the group therapy scene. They may not have had any dialogue this ep, but I challenge anyone to offer a heterosexual explanation for The Looks that Leslie and Andie were sharing during Gar's share.

It also just makes it amusing when you think about them relating things to their kids. First meeting includes Mom nearly getting Mama dissected.

ANTIYONDER - It certainly strikes me as an example of how much character development takes place in "The Owl House". I remember that in Amity's first episode, she seemed more of a nemesis-figure to Luz (and Willow). How many viewers would have even imagined, when they saw that one, the "crikey" moment?
Todd Jensen

So yeah I enjoyed seeing the Lumity kiss in the recent episode of The Owl House. Also besides Raine and Eda, I do indeed ship Hunter and Willow, even before there was any plausibility for it (i.e. When Season 2 was just starting it's break).

Their interactions played out as I'd expect (Especially Hunter actually proud of how strong Willow is) plus some nice bits I didn't think about:

- Just their first meeting. Willow pulling him to the ground with a serious expression on her face, then smiling as she asks him if he will join their Flyer Derby Team. Also if you look at the picture in Any Sport in a Storm, it shows that her Dads were on the same team as kids. That said, perfect first meeting for them.

- Him calling her Captain.

So with that plus ASiaS having the side plot with Luz and Amity, a very shipper friendly episode. Especially the recent one with a bit of Raine and Eda.

Also this video edit someone made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRVV7unyL5E

Has the relevant scenes from ASiaS set to Suis Moi from The Little Prince (which is referenced in the episode through Darius).

Perfect song really for them.

As an aside I do also ship Gus and Mattholomule. The latter, BTW, is confirmed to be related to
The Coven Guard Steve
.

I'm a little confused as to why they recast Monterey Jack in the Chip n' Dale movie. Jim Cummings is in the movie as Fat Cat, and I'm not Australian but I think Jim's Australian accent is... good? I was actually pleasantly surprised by the Rescue Rangers. I think it helps that it was at heart a detective story/buddy comedy, which feels very true to the spirit of the original show. Like swap out all the failed actor/animation jokes for talking mice jokes and this could easily be the plot of a 'real' RR movie.

Also, I appreciate that Disney reached out to other studios like WB, DreamWorks and Hasbro to flesh out the cameos instead of just using this movie as an excuse to flaunt all the carp they own.
