Interesting experience today ...

I haven't seen most eps of Gargoyles in several years, except for a few caught at conventions, and a very few I have on tape. Most of my tapes were destroyed a couple years after the eps quit airing.

Anyway ... I caught a couple eps on Jetix today. I don't have cable, but I was staying at my dad's cabin which has satellite. :) Not only was the show as good as I remember, I picked up things I never remember seeing the first time, like how GOOD the voice actors really were. Also, it was like watching the show over again brand new, as it's been so long I literally don't remember most of the details. In fact, I'm not sure I ever even saw the first ep that was aired. (Duh, blanking on the name.) And I could have sworn I'd seen all of them.

So looking forward to the DVD. :) It'll be like watching the show over again, fresh and new, almost.

Speaking of Hudson's mate and youngest child, I was doing some math the other day, and I noticed something.

According to Greg, as of 12-31-95, Hudson was chronologically 1117, which means he must have hatched in the year 878. It's generally accepted that gargoyles breed every 20 years, and the eggs take 10 years to hatch, so every ten years it's either a breeding season or a hatching.

Since Greg revealed that Broadway is Hudson's biological son, we can take Broadway's chronological age, as of the same date, 12-31-95, which is 1037, and find the year he was hatched, which would be 958, which means Hudson and his nameless mate produced him during the breeding season in 948.

Add twenty years, and we have another breeding season in 968. We know this breeding season produced Bronx, as Bronx's chronological age as of 12-31-95 is 1017, or 20 years less than the Trio.

So, presumably Hudson would have had another child in Bronx's generation, as well as one in the breeding season of 928, which is Goliath's rookery. (A fact I find interesting in and of itself) So that's three children.

But for Hudson to have Hippolytia (sp) his mate must have not only been alive for the breeding season in 988 that produced the Avalon rookery, it also must have been her fourth season, which, according to Greg, is fairly rare.

Which, is interesting, frankly, both for the rarity, and because a lot of people, including me, assumed that Hudson's mate had died sometime between the breeding season in 968 and the earliest flashbacks to Wyvern in the year 971, due to the fact that she's not evident in those flashbacks, or any subsequent ones.

Which means she's either visibly obviously related to Broadway, and Greg didn't want her on camera for that reason, or she wasn't involved in any of the flashbacks for some as yet unknown dramatic reason.

Thoughts?

BATTLE BEAST> nice quiz, but one of them was a trick question as Hudson's mate was never named by Greg. Hippolyta who was an option on that question is Hudson's daughter.

I had a bizarre dream last night, in which "Gargoyles" had had a fourth season - but can't remember now whether Greg Weisman came back for it or not and whether it treated the Goliath Chronicles as canonical or not. (Since it was only a dream, I doubt that it would matter.) The only thing that I can remember about the contents now was that the season premiere involved Castaway in his relations to Jason and Robyn Canmore and the finale focused on Lexington (and I think that Brooklyn was portrayed as having moved away from the clan, though I don't know why).

Xanatos & the coin>> $20,000 in 1975 was worth around $60,000 in 1995 and around $70,000 today (click my name for the inflation calculator I used). Given that Xanatos' dad describes himself as a "poor fisherman," I'd be surprised if Xanatos was was able to afford a college education in 1975 - on scholarship perhaps, but probably not at any big school. He might have been able to pay for an education later, but I figure that Xanatos is a rags to riches to many riches story and probably doesn't hold an MBA (which you would expect these days from a CEO).

Have we heard from Greg on this issue (i.e. Xanatos' schooling)? A quick "find word" search of the AG FAQ, Archives and JEB's encyclopedia didn't reveal anything.

According to Vows, David Xanatos got the coin in 1975 (20 years before he got married.). It was worth about $20,000 back then. So how much would the $20,000 be worth now? Really, it depends. Xanatos was ~20 years old when he got the coin. No way he would have finished college before getting that coin.

I use Screenblast to edit the videos. I got it at Best Buy for $100. HT Video to DVD to transfer my VHS tapes to my hard drive. You also need a TV card in your computer to connect your VCR.
When it comes to DVD, I use DVD Ripper, which is sold at Walmart for about $7. It converts any DVD to easy to edit VCD form (mpg)
My tapes on a scale of 1-10 are from 7-10.

Also, keep watching the message board. Within the next week, I plan to reupload all the videos to a smaller Quicktime format. So keep an eye out. I am sorry it takes so long, but I am working to fix that.

Siren> What programs do you use to make your videos? What is the quality of your source episodes? I would love to see them, but as I am STILL using dial-up, I don't have a couple hours to download them. However, your obvious excitement about them has inspired me to continue work on my own videos, not to mention, getting me to post in here once again.

My dvds> I've done nothing new on them for weeks. I still have one left to do, but am waiting for more special feature material. I still see many Gargoyle dvds on eBay and just marvel at how much they go for. This has not made me want to sell mine, however.

Finally done with my semester, can have some sort of summer break now...

Question that has been bugging me and I have to ask it (refers back to where Xanatos may or may not own that TV station WRYN?). If Jon Canmore was reporting from that same station (as a fake reporter during Hunter's Moon), I wonder how much of it Xanatos orchestrated (or maybe the Illuminati would make more sense, think I'll go with that)? I'm assuming the Canmores aren't rich enough to finance their own airship, so the Illuminati could step in anonymously with equipment and point in the general direction of Demona and the other gargoyles. See how the situation will go and plan accordingly. The hunters revealed the gargoyles but are down to one member, Illuminati grabs Jon and have him make the Quarrymen(a means to gauge public opinion I'm assuming, lots of sign-ups means more quarrymen members). Then the Illuminati tell Xanatos to get the gargoyles, be their "savior" in a sense. Would complicate things for the gargoyles because their safety could be compromised if they try to interfere with either Xanatos's or (more importantly) the Illuminati's plans. So the Illuminati still has control over all the pieces in a way, so if public opinion shifts more to in favor of the gargoyles or Quarrymen, the Illuminati can potentially make the most of either situation.

Of course, I'm making a lot of assumptions here that might be off or completely wrong. But what was that phrase," Keep your enemies close but your friends closer?" Jon and the gargoyles have their respective leashes on them from their "friends" (Illuminati and Xanatos respectively).

DPH> I don't think Xanatos expected Elisa to be quite so determined in her investigation as to trespass. But really, the one at fault is Owen for not being more careful in escorting her out. Seeing as how Puck may have some notions about how things turn out in the future (such as the hints he dropped in "Future Tense"), I wonder if he allowed Elisa to slip through security on purpose.

Todd> Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Out of curiosity, how many here are registered but may not be going? And for those of you not going, what's the main reason why? Is it the distance? The hassle of getting citizenship documents? Lack of interest? Expense?

Ok, I have a deep question. Way back in Awakenings, how far did Xanatos's plans go? Did he anticipate a cop showing up to visit the top of the building to investigate? At what point, did David Xanatos's plans go off-course?

I just started wondering what the outcome would have been if Elisa Maza hadn't surived that day against the Xanatos goon squad. Or what would have happenned if Xanatos had arranged for a corrupt cop to be the one doing the investigation?

MATT - The name "Gorlois" first appears (to the best of my knowledge) in Geoffrey of Monmouth's "History of the Kings of Britain"; whether Geoffrey got it from somewhere else or just made it up, I'm afraid that I honestly don't know.

DPH - Tress was the voice actor who played Margot Yale in "The Goliath Chronicles" (since Marina Sirtis, who normally did Margot's voice, was unavailable at the time). She's also done other voices in animation - the only one that I can think of off-hand is Dot (the female member of the Warner trio) in "Animaniacs".

Not necessarily. Perhaps remnants of Atlantis survived in Europe or elsewhere or else their culture survived.
