"I'm stopping Good... stone cold." - Mozenrath

hey there i've been looking over the Gargwiki for quite some time now, and think it's great. I've been a huge fan since the start, and recently been a born again fan if you will. If I may, I'd like access to the site if not to edit then to chat with other fans. I do have a few pictures and incites I'd like to contribute. Thanks.

Algernon it's a shame alot of the writers currently working for Marvel don't seem agree with you. Since a few months ago Sentry made Dr. Doom look like a wuss by simply walking up to him and ripping his face plate off and Iron Man telling him to surrender. Doom gave the rest of the Mighty Avengers a run for their money but they made it look like Sentry could have beaten him pretty much anytime he felt like it.

"Hello Booby! This is a trap!" - Eggplant Wizard

Just because a villain can't win doesn't mean they have to be a joke. Doctor Doom has yet to off Reed Richards but he's still one of the most feared supervillains in the Marvel universe. Even when he loses he always manages to push every hero he faces to their limits. To paraphrase Buzz Lightyear, a good villain should be able to lose with style, something G1 Megatron was sorely lacking in.

*Unless said hero is Squirrel Girl of course, in which case she casually beats Doom to within an inch of his life while on her lunch break.

Battle Beast: That explains a lot of things. Shredder and Krang in the 80s TMNT cartoon, for one. It also explains why every time He-Man was in the room, Skeletor forgot about most of the powers he had at his disposal.

Grr. Arg.

G1 TF - I personally think some of the episodes if they put concepts together. Like the episode where Tracks makes a human combined with "Key to Vector Sigma", where threat becomes bigger. I think "Revenge of Bruticus" was the closest thing season 2 had to giving the decepticons a victory. FYI, I consider the victory pulling the wool over Optimus's eyes about what really happenned to Bruticus. Of course, I think "Starscream's Brigade" partially highlights G1 Meg's stupidity: automatically assuming that the Autobots took the personality chips of renegade decepticons. After the episode "Master Builders", I didn't see why Cybertron (under decepticon rule) should ever be low on energon again. Season 3 had my favorite tf combiner of all, even though he only showed up in two episodes toward the end. I think what g1 Starscream really needed was a good mentor It's hard to count the number of victories that Megatron had in Beast Wars.

Whatever happened to simplicity?

Let me reiterate what Gorebash had to say about Blue Mug Productions.

"Worth noting that the characters, content and universe that Blue Mug's "Last Tengu in Paris" production use is 100% NOT GARGOYLES or related to Gargoyles or a derivative of Gargoyles in any way. It's completely separate, unique universe within which there's a race of beings known as TENGU. And Greg is NOT writing LTiP, it's a one-eyed man we know very little else about named Edmund Tsabard. We got to meet Edmund for a little bit at the con and he seemed quite passionate about his work."

This is 100% accurate.

bob> It's a whole different universe. Why would the names be anything you've already heard of or know? None of the characters are the same as any other universe, so I'm confused at your confusion. The 18+ is due to the adult nature of the story. Nudity, Language, Adult Situations of every shape and size. (or at least that's what Edmund is promising us so far. We're still very early in the production of it).

Jennifer "CrzyDemona" Anderson - [<--- Blue Mug Productions - 18+ ONLY]
The story is told... though who can say if it be true...

Incivis> Yeah, season three of G1 is still fun. I still like it. Everything else... bleh.
Greg Bishansky - [<---- The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles]
What would David Xanatos do? Well, he wouldn't sit at his computer bitching and moaning, that's for sure.

bob> It's 18+ because there's material in there that is legally restricted to 18+ viewers.

The names and forms of the characters are different because Disney has copyright on the names and forms of the official Gargoyles characters, no matter what "universe" they're in. If the characters in Last Tengu in Paris looked too much like characters from Gargoyles, or had the same set of names, Disney could sue for copyright infringement. Also, they'd be *very* pissed that their official characters (and by extension the Disney name) were being used in an adult comic.

Kerry (Kth) Boyd - [Kth_dragon at hotmail dot com]

im still confused about the Blue Mug Production, if its in a whole different universe then why are characters names and faces changed? why are there the same characters? And why is it 18+ just for more mature material or for sex, violence, ect.

I really really liked Transformers: Animated. There were some weak episodes, but overall it has been pretty good. A little disappointed by the finale (namely the highly anticipated reveal about Sari was not much of one); I was expecting a little more than what we got. But I like how the bad guys were handled, even the human ones, at least in "S.U.V.". And it's just fun, and not too many shows are actually fun to watch lately. And TFA's versions of Megatron and Starscream rock.
Asatira

As you know, Greg, I've still got the mad geek infatuation for the third season of the original Transformers cartoon, where everything changed. But I know that it's not Shakespeare; I just happen to prefer it to any take on the eighties Transformers, including the comics old and new.

Gad, the original Megatron was a twit. At least Galvatron was fun.

Reading Battle Beast's last post reminded me of something that I might have mentioned here before, but will do so again: it was a big advantage for "Gargoyles" that Xanatos's main goal wasn't to get rid of Goliath and his clan, but to increase his own power and influence. Most of his attacks on the gargoyles were diversions or tests rather than deliberate attempts to kill or capture them. So he could win without disposing of the protagonists (something which would have automatically ended the series).
Todd Jensen

Greg: One of the reasons Megatron in the 80's was a pathetic joke was because the writiers had to write him that way. He could NEVER win.

He-Man was the first show allowed to be based off of toys. Transformers was second. Before, you could not make a show off of toys. It was against the law.

The shows went on - but there was a stipulation: the villians could not win. EVER. They could come close, but the heros must ALWAYS win.

Writing for the part of the villian is much more fun than the heros, so most writers say. But in the early 80's, to push the shows to sell toys, the heros HAD to win.

Thus, Megatron and Skelator always lost.

This is why Megatron was so pathetic. However, had he been able to be written well, he would have been just as viscious as the 90's Megatron who was a much much better character.

Greg, I agree with you 100%. 80's megy was a wuss. :/

I would love to see the Transformers COMIC from the 1980's made into a TV series. It was much better written, had better storylines, and characters didn't jsut "appear" (Blaster, Cosmos, Beachcomber, Seaspray, Perceptor... they all ahd a back story).

I would LOVE to see this animated as the original gen 1 series was, with most of the same voice actors.

But that's jsut me.

What would David Xanatos do? Well, he wouldn't sit at his computer bitching and moaning, that's for sure.

I highly enjoy Transformers: Animated.

Actually, if you take off the nostalgia-tinted glasses, the original Transformers cartoon was a real pile of garbage. Poorly written, poorly animated garbage. Most 80s cartoons were, and I grew up watching them.

"Beast Wars" was a terrific series. Not just a great "Transformers" series, but a great animated series in general. It's one of my three favorites from the 90s.

I give this new series points for a lot. Chief among them that we finally have a Megatron that should be feared and respected. The original version was a joke. A sad, pathetic joke. I have a friend who compares him with Gul Dukat, but I compare him more as the robotic lovechild of Dr. Wiley and Snidley Whiplash.

I particularly enjoy Animated Megatron's zero tolerance policy for Starscream.

The movie Megatron wasn't even a character, just a ten minute special effect. And the less said about the ones inbetween, the better.

This current one is, well, great. They took aspects from previous ones that worked and created a true Decepticon leader, whom you can believe terrorized the galaxy. He's a close second for me, right behind Megatron from "Beast Wars"

All the "Gargoyles" voice actors are just icing on the cake.

Is the series as good as "Spectacular Spider-Man?" No. Not by a long shot. But, that's fine. It's still a fun show, and between this and Spidey, I'm actually getting up on Saturday mornings again.

Good show.

What would David Xanatos do? Well, he wouldn't sit at his computer bitching and moaning, that's for sure.

The animation in TF:A and Spectacular Spider-man don't bother me. But the animation in shows like Ed, Edd, and Eddie, and Johnny Test, and other craptacular shows does get on my nerves.
Rebel
GOLIATH: I SHOULD SAY SOMETHING SHAKESPEAREAN NOW.

Of the episodes I have seen, I haven't really been disappointed with the animation. I think the robots look sleeker than they do in the 80s cartoon. And I agree that if someone is going to criticize the animated style of Transformers: Animated, they might as well criticize Spectacular Spider-Man for the same thing.

"Back when I first started at the very beginning, I was always trying to be old and grumpy and important. Like you do when you're young." -the Tenth Doctor

Transformers: although I find the series OK, I wish the animation equalled the quality of the voice acting. When I heard the lineup of voice talent for the show I was really excited, but the animation really let the potential of the show down.

The finale of the show was great: thanks for the Youtube link.

I love, *love* Transformers: Animated. It is nice to get a good TF series after all these years. Transformers was my first fandom, and I still have a lot of love for it, but I haven't really enjoyed a series since Beast Wars (though I recognize the quality of Beast Machines, I didn't *love* it).

Animated is great: fun, colourful, great characters, packed with references to the other series, but not becoming bogged down in them. It's great.

Aldrius> My husband and I are dedicated fans of TF Animated, so of course we caught the season finale. I had either outright heard about or had my suspicions about both of the big reveals, but it was still very enjoyable, with the usual top notch voice work from all involved. Our one gripe was that the Dinobots didn't join in the fray, though I guess their presence would have been a bit much with everything else going on.

By the way, if you were as upset as we were about Cartoon Network putting one of their dumb vocal promos over the ending, there's a clip online somewhere of the end credits without the promo. I don't know the address offhand, but if you need it and can't find it, I'll look.

For curious CR-ers, I'm off to Sydney, Australia for 15 days (16 to be exact, but I lose a day traveling and such). I'm also going to be spending some time in the Outback as well, but I'm not sure I'll have the chance to see Ayer's Rock (Uluru), especially since it's not even close to Sydney at all and the Outback is HUGE.

But no doubt I'm going to be thinking of "Walkabout" while I'm there :D

I'm also bringing my Gargoyle HT T-shirt in hopes that I'll get an Aussie smile or two, maybe even a curiosity perhaps.

I've also bugged my little brother he has to buy me my copy of BG#4 or even G#9 should they come out while I'm gone (I gotta pay him back later). Not sure that'll happen (and I don't really wanna send this CR back in speculation-mode), but at least I have that back up plan :)

Couple other things --

Glad everyone enjoyed the Gathering; I've been reading the journals and I know with LA as the host next year (and no big finances looming), I'll finally be able to attend!

Gorebash -- sorry about your bag -- I'm going to be extra-aware of my stuff now, expecially since its international and all.

Phil -- Happy belated birthday.

When I checked the cast list at "Ask Greg", I was amused to find a Coldstream Guard among the characters, since all three of the ColdTrio are already in the story.

Not only do Duval, Blanchefleur, and the Grail show up on the cast list (I hope Greg hasn't given us that much of a spoiler), but so does a character named Peredur, which got my attention since "Peredur" is the Welsh version of Percival (Duval's true identity, according to canon-in-training information). Now I've got one more reason to look forward to #9, to find out more about this.

Cute story time!
Digging around in some boxes in the basement, I found my old Sega Genesis and some of the games that go with it, including Gargoyles. I hooked it up, it still works, and my five-year-old son has been playing it ever since. (He's better at age five than I was when I started playing it at twenty-five.)
I asked him how he liked the Gargoyles game, and he said, "I always die when I try to fight Opie."
After a moment's thought, I realized what he was talking about. "His name's Odin, not Opie," I explained.
"Well, I'm gonna keep calling him Opie anyway," he replied.
It amuses me to imagine Opie as the leader of the Norse gods.

So my Gathering luggage is probably gone for good. I think someone found it at the airline and took it home with them when they saw the laptop inside. I don't see any other scenario in which an airline finds my bag, calls me to tell me this, and when I return their call the bag is now gone again.

Now the laptop I'm not bothered about. It's my signed copy of Interworld that I'm pissed about losing. Interworld was written by Neil Gaiman and Michael Reaves (who wrote quite a few Gargoyles episodes). I got halfway through the book and was enjoying it so much I forced myself to bag the book and save the second half for the trip home.

So I went and ordered another copy today. And thought it might be worth pimping the book a bit more while I'm at it. So here's where you can order your own SIGNED copy:

Holy crap! I've been trying to piece together what the Blue Mug thing is all about but I had no idea that er, Edmund would actually be writing it or that it'd use the JLA characters (or at least their names).

That reminds of the comic panel at CONvergence this year. Greg and Chris Jones were on it (as well as Evanier, Wolfman and a couple others). Chris specifically mentioned his work penciling the JLA parody piece and remembered it fondly (he was also excited to sign my BG #3 since he hadn't seen a final copy yet). I'm sure the artists will do great, but I find it endlessly amusing to think of a one-eyed Chris Jones returning to the property eight years later to turn it into a porno.

Todd - Just finished editing my old review. I also took out my comment out about 'the London clan letting couples have their 3rd egg because they could be donated to other gargoyle clans' because I realized that might be construed as an idea. Hopefully, my comment asking about both halves being able to talk isn't meant to be an idea, but rather a question about the ability of the Stone of Destiny.

Demonskrye: - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

Demonskrye> It's sort of a "names and faces have been changed to protect the innocent" kind of thing. You can tell who everybody is, but they don't really look like the official Gargoyles characters, and of course the names are different. The tengu we've seen have names that Greg introduced in his JLA Garg parody (Diabolique, Montmarte, etc). Greg is writing it, and it'll be story-driven, but it's definitely an 18+ comic. Once a week and in color, which will be bound up into issues to be produced and sold.

From what was discussed in the panel, the current comic (censored) will be visible for free. Uncensored content and archives will be paid, though whether it's a one-time membership fee or a pay as you go kind of thing is not decided yet.

There was a suggestion to have a fanart gallery, which was well received, and so may be implemented also.

Kerry (Kth) Boyd - [Kth_dragon at hotmail dot com]

With Greg doing the writing for Red Tornado, I was wondering what everyone's take on the character was.

I myself am not a major RT fan, but have gotten a bit of interest in reading about the character after checking out Justice League Of America Volume 1: Torndao's Path. Guess I took an interest in the fact that he's somewhat of a family man (or bot in this case).

There've been four so far. The themes have been the Phoenix Gate, the Eye of Odin, the Grimorum Arcanorum, and this year's Items of Enchantment (for all the lesser-mentioned stuff like Titania's Mirror, the Papyrus of Thoth, the Praying Gargoyle, etc.)

I have been the editor for those ones and will keep on doing so as long as the con committees want to put up with me. I should be making a formal announcement of the theme for the 2009 anthology and posting submission guidelines soon.

If you have any questions about it, feel free to pop me an e-mail (christine@sabledrake.com) or ask here.

Not much information would be available because all the content is fan based, ie fanfics and fanart about each item and are not canon.

Alex's aging> I think physically he'll probably slow down to something more normal when he's a little older, say around two years old. I bet anyone with a kid that old knows that he'll have enough dexterity to do most things. Mentally I'd bet he's going to be a few years advanced until he's about twelve if he's managed to stay a handful of years older than his actual age. Those are arbitrary, but people quit calculating a person's grade level about high school level, and after that it's college or post-grad level. So it wouldn't be much to expect him to have pretty adult grasp of things by the time he hits puberty. Maturity level is a whole other story.

Asatira

In a medieval French romance about Merlin, Merlin (whom we know has Third Race blood - though more than Alex does, and it's still canon-in-training at present) was portrayed as growing up abnormally fast. He was so precocious, in fact, that when his mother was put on trial shortly after his birth for having a son out of wedlock, Merlin served as his mother's defense attorney and won (largely because he revealed that the judge trying the case was himself illegitimate, followed by the nervous suicide of the judge's real father, who was present in the courtroom, and the judge deciding to drop all charges against Merlin's mother before the boy could make any more embarrassing revelations).

We do have that line in #4 about Alex being big for his age, but I don't know if Greg's going to do more with that concept. If the comic lasts long enough (and I hope it does), we'll find out.

Todd Jensen

KC:<Wish me luck that I get the role.> But I thought you wanted to get the role. Don't actors consider it bad luck to wish someone luck? Wouldn't you want us to tell you to break a leg instead? Well I'll then, say it break a leg! ;)

It's silly. It's a silly movie. There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?- George Lucas on Spider-Man 3

Yeah... one has to wonder if Alex will mature as fast as, say, Wilbur Whateley from Lovecraft's "The Dunwich Horror." Not so much sprouting extra appendages from his abdomen or anything (Greg hasn't said, but I doubt Titania has any interdimensional demons in her family tree), just... growing fast. ( ;

Whatever happened to simplicity?

Spen - <Last I checked, Greg is allowed to change his mind.> I know that. That's why I asked about the status of issue #11, to see if things had changed.

Let's say at a factory that once a month, a certain employee started a doing new task. The first few times, nobody knew for sure exactly how long this task would take. After a quite few months, a pattern emerged of this certain employee taking a fixed amount of time to do this task. Since this person is taking a relatively fixed amount of time to complete this task, would you call this person a machine? I sure hope not, because that's how factories operate. Before I started speculating on the release dates, I had looked at the release dates of many issues vs known dates of 1st showing up on Diamond comics vs know dates of being sent to Disney. The same analogy applies there. I had noticed a pattern of taking a specific amount of time between dates not just a few times but quite a few times. Enough, that I became convinced that it was a safe bet that, unless something changed within the Disney organization, it would take the same amount of time again. I myself don't see a problem with speculating about release dates as long as there is a method to choosing a date as opposed to randomly picking one. Why would I care to speculate/find a method to the length of time for the approval process? So I can avoid going to Diamond comics website to see if gargoyles or bad guys is listed. Will I apologize for making predictions about release dates if I think it's more than a safe bet that I'm right? No. Will I make a prediction about a release date if I don't think it's a safe bet that I'm right? Do you really think I'm that stupid? Will I apologize for making predictions sound like divine revelation about release dates? Heck yes. As things stand right now, given the new situation with Kingdom comics, I don't think it's possible to make a safe bet regarding exact future release dates through . . *thinks* . . . for a while.

Everyone, lay off dph. It's not unreasonable to take as fact that Greg will do something he said he would on ASK GREG, nor is it unreasonable for him to change his mind.

Either way, it doesn't much matter what has or hasn't been scripted, as it's the art that's made the title lag so much. We have no word on who's doing #11 and 12, right?

GXB - ty for the info. My assumption that Red Tornado #2 was finished was based on Greg's exact words: "Issue #5 will get scripted as soon as I'm done scripting Red Tornado #1, Gargoyles #10 and Red Tornado #2." I apologize for assuming that when, at Ask Greg, Greg Weisman says he will do things in a certain order, more than likely he will do things in that order.

What would David Xanatos do? Well, he wouldn't sit at his computer bitching and moaning, that's for sure.

I understand that the status of gargoyles #11 is a mute point right now, but I'm a little confused. On June 16th in a response to a question, Greg Weisman stated "Issue #5 is currently being pencilled by Karine, and I'm currently scripting #6." (http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=10601 ) Furthermore, http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/archives.php?lid=492 , Greg said he would have to finish scripting red tornado issue #2 before he scripted bad guys issue #5. From that post, I had assumed the order of scripting was the following: Red Tornado #1, Gargoyles #10, Red Tornado #2, Bad Guys #5, Red Tornado #3, Gargoyles #11, Red Tornado #4, Bad Guys #6, Red Tornado #5, Gargoyles #12, and Red Tornado #6. Everything was clear so far. Then I read in JEB's con journal ( http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=10817 ) that Gargoyles #11 will be scripted after Greg finishes with Red Tornado #2. JEB's use of the future tense makes it sound like Gargoyles issue #11 hasn't been scripted yet. Since Greg had mentioned he was scripting bg #6 and I was assuming the aforementioned order, that meant gargoyles #12 was the only issue of the main comic that hadn't been scripted yet. So was JEB mistyping when he said "Gargoyles #11 will be scripted after Greg finishes with Red Tornado #2."?

I don't understand why #9 is taking so long. Is the art not finsihed? I think Hedgecock was making definite improvements in the art but he seems to take too long to get it finsished and I think that's the main reason why the book isn't selling as well as it should. I'm really worried about the renewel, but I guess there's not a whole lot we can do.

Also, Greg B. I hope you don't mind that I've posted links to your winning videos on the front page of the database. If you prefer not to have them there or you want some other kind of format (maybe you prefer a download link or some other streaming host I don't know about), let me know.

Todd> My reasoning--which I'll admitt made more sense at three in the morning--was that Matrix didn't really come into his own as a character untilthe comics. In the one episode that he/she/it appeared in, it didn't seem like a character, more like a force or disaster that needed to be stopped. Like a hurricane or tornado. We didn't really see much of a "personality" there. Anywho, that's what I was thinking at the time.

Ricky: Most people, including Greg, suspect/hope/are optimistic that BG #4 will be released this month and Garg #9 will be released next month based on how long the completed comics have been sitting on Disney's approval desk. That's by no means a sure thing but past experience leads to this prediction.

The best way to keep on top of the release dates is to check the Diamond release lists: http://www.previewsworld.com/public/default.asp?t=1&m=1&c=6&s=449&ai=0 They get updated every Monday afternoon with the next two weeks of releases. Then you have a release date for the comic. Gargoyles sometimes gets delayed from that date, but never more than a week or two. Or just keep an eye on this comment board. People will be clamoring in here whenever there's new info on release dates and comics.

Matt> Ah, I see. That's a pretty accurate survey then. I somehow got the idea that you were going by how many reactions of surprise there were to event from the first two comics in the arc, but this is much better (in terms of getting an accurate estimation of how many people haven't read the comic, not better that so man people haven't read it.)

It is very weird that so many people attending the Gathering - who woiuld presumably be thw most dedicated members of the fandom - aren't keeping up with the comic. Like I said, I would be curious to know why that is. I have no interest in villifying anybody, unless you are torrenting the issues for free which I stronglt disapprove of. As I saif before, what I want to do is find out why people who chose not to buy the comic aren't doing so and help people who would like to buy the comic but are having trouble for one reason or another.

The Hot Topic shirt, in my opinion, is an entirely different matter. I bought it because I happen to wear shirts with big character prints on them and I have the disposable income to buy the shirt even if I wasn't going to wear it. Some people may not be in that situation and I don't think we should be encouraging people to buy shirts they won't ever wear just to support the cause. If they want to, that's great, but if we're promoting the idea of fans spending money on things they don't want or need, that's desperation.

CHIP - Why is Matrix on your list of new characters? Everyone else on the list first appeared in the comic, but he was introduced in the television series.

I encourage anyone else who has a Deviantart account to go and sign up, and add the website to your signature. The Disney Claimers Journal won't mind, because they want word of their site spread as well.
