TGS Comment Room

Okay here's how you spread the word to a lot of complete strangers outside the Gargoyles fandom.

First of all if any of you are going to any other conventions outside the Gathering this summer like the Comiccon or what ever con go to this site http://www.gatheringofthegargoyles.com/g2009/ go to the "Help Spread the Word!" part and print out fliers then copy those fliers and when you go to the convention go to people ask them if they are a fan of Gargoyles. Then pass out the fliers to them.

Go to lines and crowds. Ask them if they have the DVDs, comics whatever... and if they don't, tell them about Gargoyles and to buy the DVDs, etc... they can help support Garygoyles for future DVDs of Season 2, Volume 2, Live action Movie and more to be release.

Also ask them if they can attend the Gathering in August if they're in the California area and have no plans, tell them to tell their freinds and family, make your own fliers if you want to.

Second if any of you has a Youtube account and camera, make a video blog telling people about Gargoyles and to support them. Tell them about the comics, Gathering and the DVDs and if they don't have them then ask them to buy them to help support the Gargs. Urge them to spread the word too like you did.

And if you have accounts on Social Sites like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter or others to spread the word there. Ask them if they have the DVDs or whatever and if they don't move on, were only interested in people who don't have the DVDs and don't know about Gargoyles.

So if there is any one on this board who doesn't have the Gargoyles DVD sets please buy them. We need a Thousand units to be sold and a lot of people at the Gathering. If anyone else has any other creative ideas and ways to spread the word besides what I listed? Please tell us.

Support Gargoyles. The time is now.

Had to delete the entire site (along with all the subdomains, sigh) and am in the process of re-uploading everything. It's a bit wacky right now, but the virus is gone at least. Everything should be back to normal in a week.

In other news, I'm not dead and have actually started drawing again.

***** TGS CR INFO UPDATE *****

My CR Information section has come a long way since the days of its infancy. It has grown too large and bulky for the current needs of the forum. So I made a few tweaks here and there throughout the CR Information pages. I omitted unnecessary wording, outdated information, and information that no longer applies to the current state of the comment room.

- The Development section was renamed to Miscellaneous.
- The Requests page was moved to the Miscellaneous section.
- The calendars from the CR Members' Profiles section were replaced with a single page featuring a simple list of birthdays, anniversaries, gatherings, and premieres of the television show, TGS, the CR, etc.
- The broken link to a website DPH's profile was corrected.
- Hyperlinks of CR Members' email addresses were removed from each profile page.
- Several statistics pages for the Members section were deemed unnecessary and deleted.

I might make some more changes because I still think some of the pages and material within CR Information can be condensed and refined.

CHANGES TO PROCEDURES:

Member Profiles:
I am not currently accepting CR member profile submissions. During it's popularity, this section quickly became too much for me to manually update. Automation via server side scripts would have greatly helped ease this burden, but Fire Storm didn't get very far in the coding. I presently see no reason to tackle this for two main reasons: (1) I haven't received any profile submissions or edits in a year (and only received two edits the previous year), and (2) there isn't enough participation in the forum to warrant this.

If you need something changed in your existing profile, just send me an email.

If or when I accept new CR member profiles, I will probably scrap most of the qualification guidelines.

CR Images and Forum Features:
I am putting development of these features on hold, indefinitely. Due to the diminished participation (involving the number of commenters and the frequency of posts), I believe the images and features currently available are sufficient.

NOTE:
Keep in mind that everything is continuously evolving. If participation in the forum picks up and demand for images and features increases, especially if or when new TGS stories and artwork get published, then the CR Info section will be adjusted accordingly.

LYNATI (and whomever is interested):
I am not completely satisfied with the design of the beta pages for the TGS website. I have some concerns over the complexity of my CSS coding and the layout and graphics used for the website. I believe it is possible to have more streamlined code and a more modern web design that may be easy enough for any TGS staffer to update or augment, since I know I will not always be available (the past year is evidence of that *L*). I don't want to implement the beta design only to update it again soon after, so please be patient.

I hate computer viruses. I'm stuck with Win32.Zafi.B or at least that's why Windows Firewall keeps telling me. Funny thing is I restarted this pc in safe mode, did a virus scan, came out clean, rebooted it, and presto Windows Firewall gives me the same message.

Yes, I've checked my system registry and it's the signs to look for are not there.

It's great to hear from you. I remember working with you on a number of projects. And of course I remember that you were a core member of the breakdowns team in the days when I was writing. Hi, Anna. It's been a while since I posted anything here, but thanks for stopping by. I remember how you wrote "Spirits of the Vasty Deep", based on the outline that I wrote; I was particularly delighted with your addition of Morgana's "might-have-been son", which added some poignancy to the story.

I left TGS at the end of 2003, and have been working on other things, including a series of children's fantasies that I hope to get published soon. (The protagonist is a young Merlin, but he's not much like the rejuvenated Merlin of TGS.)

I'm glad you did stop by. You won't remember me, but I was a fan of TGS back when your stories ran, and was on the staff myself some years after you, during the last 'Pendragon' season. You wrote or collaborated on some of my all-time favourite TGS stories. 'Menagerie' in particular I've always considered one of the real triumphs of the project.

Incidentally, you might not have heard but the creator of 'Gargoyles' is now continuing the series in comic form, which is as excellent as the show. There's some info up at http://www.gargoylescomic.com/

Congratulations on your marriage, child and career and if you ever write a book or anything, be sure to come back and plug it. I for one would be really interesting to read more of your work.

Hi! I'm sorry for intruding. I've never posted in the comment room before. But many, many years ago, I was a writer on the TGS staff. I had to leave due to pressing life commitments, and I never really returned. Now, I'm a bit nervous about posting. A quick scan of comment-room posts shows that staff members' memories are incredibly long. I do recall heated debates about the direction of story-lines; I also remember getting a bit heated myself. But I don't remember the details. Nevertheless, I hope I didn't put anyone offside when I was a staff member, as I'd dearly like to know what everyone is up to.

I have fond memories of working with Todd Jensen (whom I see is still here -- hi Todd), Aaron Ziegler, Stephen Sobotka, Rahsaan Footman, Jonathan Cotleur, Shauntell Holm, Patrick Toman and Beth Mashburn. And I think Greg Bishansky and I were on staff at the same time, although I don't think we worked together on a story.

I'm sure most of you wouldn't remember me. I was on staff for such a short time and, as I'm from Australia, I've never attended a gathering. But I wanted to take the opportunity (while some of you are still here) to let you know how much I enjoyed working with you all those years ago. The energy, generosity, and sheer devotion of so many of the writers, editors and artists is an inspiration to me, even now.

I also wanted to thank those staff members who are still working on TGS. I'm amazed that this project is still running.

My own life is so different now to what it was back then that I hardly feel like the same person. Since the comment room seems fairly quiet, I'll offer a quick summary. (Even though by now most of you are probably mumbling to yourself, 'Who the *beep* is this chick?') Married, child, university post as a medievalist. (Very different from the single, childless, computer programmer I was back then).

Thanks for listening. I'd really like to know what former staffers are up to, if anyone knows.

I was just reading through a little Disney catalog that put season two as a three disk set. The copy I own of season one came through their movie club and by jacket doesn't look like the copy Target once carried.

Systemcat : Season three and the "spin-off show", as you call it, are one and the same. In any event, season three isn't available yet, as the second half of season two has not been released. The main reason being that the sales figures for the first half of season two were considerably lower than expected. However, the show is currently continuing in comic book form, and even has its own spin-off. So if you haven't picked them up yet, I highly recommend them.

Seriously, if I were a member of the Third Race with the power to influence the time stream, I'd put it to more amusing use, such as violating the non-interference law. If one were strong enough to influence the time stream, they'd be strong enough to get away with violating their master's edict.

The only reason that I'm not saying directing the Gate to a certain point in time is not direct interference is because whether or not the person at the other end picks the thing up is still their choice.

And why Prospero? Seems to me your "theory" could use any old sorcerer. How about Gandalf the White? Or Jambey from Pee-Wee's Playhouse? ( ;

I do find the idea appealing that somebody would try to create currents in the time stream in attempt to force the Phoenix Gate to appear at a certain place and certain time. That given, I realize that any such attempt would requires lots of energy, knowledge, intellect, and patience. That being said, last Saturday, I took the occasion to watch a live production of "The Tempest". Even though it was performed on a single stage, I thoroughly enjoyed, even much more than a video I had previously seen of "The Tempest". I have no doubt that Prospero could possess the latter 3 requirements, but with regards to meeting the 1st requirement, gathering the energy, I see it being problematic in the ancient world. Still I doubt even with modern technology, one could gather enough energy to be able to create even a small ripple in the currents of the time. Unless one had multiple devices capable of storing vast quantities of magic and the means to recharge those devices, I deem it impossible. So much for that means of bringing Prospero into the Gargs universe.

Just remember what happened at the end of "Future Tense." It implies that the Gate needs a mind to provide an end point. No sentient mind serving as an anchor = no way to connect Point A with Point B. I think the ending also seems to imply that you actually need to be physically holding it, too.

Vinnie's query reminds me of John Bellairs' "The Face in the Frost" (which I highly recommend to everyone here, incidentally), where the protagonist is a wizard named Prospero, but he's not *the* Prospero. (The author makes that clear in the first paragraph.)

DPH-Theories are not spoilers or possibile spoilers. If you had posted. "Hey I have an interesting theory." Then people might not be giving you as mush of a hard time as now.

You are also indicating that Greg Weisman might use Prospero to control time or create the gate or whatever. As the others siad before not even Oberon can manipulate or change time. If even someone with that much power can't alter it, then neither a human wizard could do such a thing.

DPH-> Dude, you are trying to anchor something that cannot be anchored like trying to catch an idea with a bug net.

From the link quote of Greg W you provided there is no hint or suggestion that ANYONE has contol over time. More so that the gate is simply a vessel that rides the currents the shifts and prevailing winds that are beyond the understanding of mortals.

In a way you are trying to materialize something that is much more interesting as an unknown mystical force. Like the Force in Star Wars the moment they claimed the Force was actually little bugs that whisper in your ears the magic is ruined.

If you wanted to use any basis for a possible controller it would have to be an Elder God or "I am" again beyond the understanding of any mere mortal.

As for Sevarius, I don't see anything in particular that would point to him being an Iluminatus, but then again, nothing against it either. And I probably would not have believed you if you told me that Thailog was a member. It's just that, I personally think that adding Sevarius tips the balance between members and non-members a little too far. I mean, a society with 666 members, and six of them happen to be cast members of some sort? It kinda seems like overkill to me.

In the end though I'd say that, regarding both theories, Billy Joel probably sums it up best; "You may be wrong, for all I know, but you may be right."

I was thinking about possible sources of those time streams. A thought occurred to me that what if somebody was responsible for creating currents in the timestream. The thought occurred to me it might be Prospero and a motivation might be to force the phoenix gate to appear at a precise time and place. That idea had nothing consciously to do with anything that I know about in the tgs universe.

My theory goes that Prospero gathers lots of energy to create current(s) in the timestream to force the Phoenix Gate to show up at certain places of his choosing. That has nothing to do with altering history. It's all about attempts to bring the gate to a specific location at a specific point in time. That doesn't involve changing history, but rather trying to account for what we know exists.

If I had told you that Thailog was a member of the I Society 5+ years ago (assuming it wasn't revealed at a gathering), would you have believed me?

Dude, what part of "time can't be changed" is troubling you? In Shakespeare's play, Prospero was a wizard. We have seen no wizards powerful enough to manipulate time. Oberon isn't even that powerful.

Greg has never even hinted at such a thing.

I quite liked that TGS considered S&P, though I was never really aware of any real restrictions beyond common sense. Sure, the comics are more explicit, but TGS was taking its lead tonally from what went before. There's plenty of explicit fanfic out there, some of it excellent, but to me TGS was about creating a sense of verisimilitude. Plus, the show pushed the envelope all the time (Demona's attack on Gillecomgain being particularly violent) so there wasn't a lot that cropped up which seemed wildly out of bounds.

I do tend to think that violence should have some greater purpose than being violence for its own sake. Thailog can take Claw's wings, but what does that mean for Claw? For Thailog? Demona's attack on Gillecomgain was pure chance, pure hate, but a millennium down the track its consequences are still in play. I think Greg Weisman plays with that expectation in the comic too. Thailog stabs Goliath is shocking -- but of course, we should realise that Thailog could kill Goliath any time he likes. There's a smarter play.

There's a risk with fanfics of these kind that violence becomes the end in itself and being challenged to justify that violence with respect to the characters and plot strikes me as a useful exercise. So the logic of S&P, it seemed to me, was to provide that "context check". Of course, that's not to say it always, or even chiefly, worked like that. I never read an "it's too mean" type response, thankfully.

I don't know I ever read that Tamora scene except perhaps in outline. The big, big, big concern that jumps out at me isn't the fairly mild sexual theme at all (there's a moment near the end of 'Aladdin' at least as twisted), but: "He suddenly realized that out of the few Persian gargoyles he had met he had yet to find one iota of nobility in any of them". Within the scene, it feels wrong to me as a character beat for Goliath to extrapolate his experiences to the rest of the Persian clan without having met most of them; and within the broader context of the series, it's a flaw with the Persian clan which feels simplistic, stereotyped and untrue to the spirit of the original.

Still, it's all a long time ago. I got a kick out of the series as a reader, had a blast as a writer, and learned a lot in the process. It's easy to criticise with hindsight and it's right to be critical because there are lessons to be learned, but those lessons shouldn't eclipse the achievement of everyone who actually brought something to completion against steep odds.

As for the future TGS though... five years ago, I warned that these vast, vast "plans" (five seasons of 'Bad Guys', another three of 'Gargoyles', etc.) were totally and utterly unrealistic and in fact distracted from the actual business of telling the stories at hand.

By this stage, the only TGS series that's really begging for a decent ending is 'Timedancer'. A small, close-ended serial or long fic wrapping that up would be very welcome indeed. The fics already drafted for TGS many years ago would very nearly sustain a mini-season on their own.

Beyond that, it's clear that the staff isn't available to support even a very modest season outside the very, very, very, very long-term. As I understand, almost all the people who were the major architects of the various seasons have departed. By all means, continue the universe in personal fanfic, but meanwhile, the readers deserve some closure while they still have (by now very vague) recollections of what it's all about.

I haven't revealed anything myself (as far as I can recall) and don't expect to until the funeral, if ever. Maybe this time we really are on the cusp of an epic continuation; I don't want to spoil anyone's fun. But I'm not sure it's fair or reasonable to expect people not to discuss their ideas and ambitions for a project when it's so long departed (outside vague promises). It filled the void brilliantly throughout the series' wilderness years. It deserves to be remembered, examined, praised, damned, its secrets a matter for the public imagination. A complete, closed-ended monument. Having it rot in situ until one of these years, maybe, something will leak out of the TGS brains trust strikes me as profoundly against the spirit of the project. It was meant to fill the void of the cancelled series, not create a void to complement the series continuation.

It's not that Gargoyles season 4 is never coming out- it's that after the first time Bishansky spoilered the intent for Tamora to turn out to be a villain some months back, we decided to re-write the sections concerning that plot twist so that we would have something that would still be a surprise.

Greg, would you pretty please stop telling everybody what the old plans were? Some of them are ones we are still going with, and we'd like them to be new and not "oh I heard that six months ago" when we do start releasing the next season.

Your assumption that "They are never going to release the next season" is as inaccurate as it is disheartening to see, and the addition of "...so it's okay for me to tell everyone what the plans were" is more than a little bit rude. Especially considering that when you were running the project, you said that and worse about a former staff member who had given away a large chunk of some of the previous plans in a personal work of fanfiction.

It's okay for you to believe TGS doesn't have a reason to continue now that the canon comic exists; nobody is denying your right to have and voice an opinion about that, or about the material that was previously released. But since you haven't been on staff for quite some time, and you don't know what the current state of internal affairs is, The Gargoyles Saga writers respectfully ask you to stop telling everyone that you "know" that the next season is never going to be released, and to otherwise stop making our job harder by lobbing pieces of intended plot to the general public. It just leads to time wasted on discussions about if we want to leave the story that way, and occasionally more time on adapting any changes we decide are now necessary to give people a story they won't have already heard before.

Goliath’s eyes flew open with shock as the night sky lit up through the large windows of the war room. The orbs burned like white phosphorus, a guttural roar escaping his lungs. Every moment of not knowing whether his clan was dead or alive gnawed at his very existence.

The ding of the nearby elevator brought him out of his brief insanity of grief and rage only to have him once again cry out with white eyes and beastly roar. The Persian female paused as if admiring a work of art, a talon on her chin and one of the most sadistic smiles Goliath had ever seen. Perhaps that was all he was to her, a play thing, a trophy to gawk at or toy with. The thought did not help his disposition.

Tamora strolled to the window, hips swaying methodically, similar to a cat cornering a prey. She paused only for a moment before turning to Goliath licking her pursed lips. “Your clan is still alive,” she purred, gently grabbing a hold of his leash. “I’m sure you’re quite relieved to hear that.”

Goliath glared up at her, doing his best to maintain his head. She was toying with him, to what end he was not certain. “Why?”

“I beg your pardon?”

Goliath leveled his eyes, letting out a slow breath. He met his captor eyes, they were the slits of a snake, an obsidian abyss of arrogance and desire. “We welcomed you into our home, Tamora. We treated you as clan, family,” he stated, his tone once again betraying his anger. “Why did you betray us? Why are you helping Thailog do this?”

Tamora could not keep from letting out a small laugh.

“It’s really your own fault you know,” she stated matter-of-factly. Her sudden motion caught him by surprise, reaching down and grabbing both sides of his head, bringing him towards her. She forcefully wrapped her lips around his mouth, driving her tongue to meet his. He felt her in his mouth, her saliva sloshing about with the wrapping flicks of the muscle. Her eyes had closed but Goliath’s had only widened, his body rigid, helpless.

Finally, Tamora pulled away, hissing in disgust. She spat at the floor before her, eyes red. “Her taste is still on you, her scent,” she paused, regaining her composure. After a breath and a toss of her hair, the arrogance had returned but the lust had all but vanished. “You and I could have been glorious together. I knew it as soon as I first laid my eyes upon you in Japan. We could have led a union of the two mightiest clans on Earth. Just imagine what we could have accomplished together. By the Dragon, glory and power would have been our mutual destiny.

“But no,” she spat once more. “Instead you chose to couple with that human woman.”

“My personal choices are my own,” Goliath retorted. “They have little to do with relations between our two clans. I reached out in friendship. We could still have been allies. There are so few of us left, we have no choice but to be united.

“And you still did not answer my question,” Goliath growled. “This has nothing to do with you, Elisa or myself. Why did you betray my clan?”

“Why?” she repeated, light amusement in her voice. “Politics Goliath, nothing personal. I bear no ill will towards Brooklyn, Hudson, or anyone else in your clan. Thailog just made me a better offer. The Balthazar agreed. He makes a far more powerful ally than your clan could ever have been.”

“Politics. Power.” Goliath growled at the very words. He suddenly realized that out of the few Persian gargoyles he had met he had yet to find one iota of nobility in any of them. Perhaps he was just wasting his breath. “I see the seeds of corruption run deeper through you and your clan than I could ever have imagined! By our very nature we have no need of such things as power. And you have the very audacity to call yourselves gargoyles.”

Tamora violently heaved the leash causing the larger gargoyle to slam face down on the cold steel floor. Letting go, she turned and started to leave, heading towards Thailog’s office, her indignation fully visible. She paused for a moment, partially turning to Goliath as if about to add on, but looked away and stepped out of the war room, the doors sealing behind her.

As I recall, (mind you this was years and years ago now) the actual argument at the time was in fact "Thailog can't do that, it would be too mean." The story idea at the time had Thailog bruned and crippled, low on resources and time, and desperate and such. I don't remember all the details. I think at the end of it Claw might have actually spoken, but its been a long time.

There were legitimate reasons not to go that route, but the reason given was "too mean." But I remember it as a very interesting tstory that gave Thailog his menace back after he'd been really sucky for an entire season.

Of course, there was also the Hyena and Sevarius story arc that never really got off the ground. THAT woulda been interesting...

The argument I do remember was "Claw's got little enough to do as the only Mutate who doesn't talk, and if he loses his wings, he'll wind up with no role but to stay in the Labyrinth and watch television with Hudson's clone" (I suspect that whoever voiced it was thinking of Bronx - the only wingless member of the Manhattan clan, if you don't count Elisa - being generally the one who'd get left behind at the clock tower).

I suppose Thailog could ripoff Claws wings if he had to. But why would he? Wouldn't it be far easier to just clone a set of wings, ala Sevarious, and then dispose of the body that was cloned with it. That way he doesn't have to worry about the wings being rejected, being made from his own blood. Rippingoff Claws wings sounds like it would be fun but only if Thailog had no other options that would have required less effort on his part.

Plus, with a series, you need a tie in for future adventures. Sadly with many modern movies, special effects replace plot. If Return of the Jedi ended with the destruction of the second Death Star, it would not be half the movie it was.

I could see Thailog ripping off Claw's wings (poor Claw), and Goliath's reaction as he has a Future Tense flashback.

But good point. (Your comment about the "too many endings" complaints reminds me of many of the comments about the ending of the movie version of "The Return of the King" - though I honestly didn't think it had that problem when I saw it. Of course, I'd read the book and knew that there was a fairly long denouement (six chapters) after Sauron's downfall. Maybe the people who said "too many endings" hadn't read the book.)

The five structures of story telling are:

Introduction
Rising Action
Complication
Climax
Denouement

Only it seems too few people want Denouement anymore. When we do get it, people complain. "Oh! Too many endings!"

Again, I reference season two. In a lot of ways, the season was about introducing the Third Race, first Puck then the Weird Sisters, they had a sense of mystery to them. Foreshadowing Oberon.

Ending season two of TGS at "The Darkest Hour" would have been like ending season two of the series at "Hunter's Moon"

Aftermath would have been a great season opener for tgs gargoyles season 3. TGS Season 1 was build-up to the SUW, season 2 was the SUW except for stuff tacked on the end. TGS gargoyles Season 3 would have worked better, imo, if it had focused on the aftermath of and recovery from the suw.

I remember some discussion about that, back when we were plotting Season Two. In the end, most of the staff decided that the season needed to end a few episodes after the Second Unseelie War's final battle, to show that war doesn't end just because the fighting's stopped.

I do think that one thing many of us (myself included) overlooked was what should take place after the Second Unseelie War; we left ourselves stranded once it was over.

Personally, I think Season 2 should have ended with "The Darkest Hour" part 2. It makes sense in so many ways. Season 2 had the start of the SUW. Ending the SUW in Season 2 would have been so logical. Then Season 3 could have had a clear theme: Dealing with the aftermath of the SUW.

Funny story, Thailog was originally going to be cured in the third season, but with his wings so completely destroyed, we were going to have him capture Claw, tear out his wings and have them surgically implanted to his own body.

I was on the project for a tiny proportion of the time Todd and Greg each were, but I'd third Greg's comments.

I really enjoyed TGS as a reader and writer. But even working on 'Pendragon' S4, I never felt like it was an especially good sequel to the original, or was designed to be. It had become something in its own right and personally, I wanted to try to be true to that rather than some interpretation of what might be in Greg Weisman's mind from clues he'd dropped in 1997. Obviously there was a common thread but the tone of the two is, I think, quite different.

TGS was several dozen writers in imitation of Greg Weisman and the comics are the single vision of Greg Weisman free to tell his stories.

And TGS has had hundreds of episodes. For a true comparison, compare TGS two thirds of the way through "Partnership" and a third of the way through "The Return"!

Two years into the comic, it's still less than 3 weeks after "Hunter's Moon", so I'm sure Goliath will be in the comic for many years to come (always hoping it goes on that long). I can't wait.

As a former TGS staff member, I second Bishansky's remarks.

I hope that, after the "Bad Guys" spin-off is done, Greg Weisman will get to do a "Pendragon" spin-off, though we've already seen some of his take on Arthur's adventures after his return in #7-#8. I certainly think that he'll avoid the mistake of making it seem too much like an Arthurian retelling with the present-day parts being just framework.

Xanatos has proven to still be the same character know and love, instead of the TGC version of the character TGS mistakingly went with.

And Goliath sacrificing himself for gargoyle rights is beautiful. Like Martin Luther King or Gandhi or Jesus. Great men seldom live to see their dreams realized.

I also am sure Greg's Demona stories will continue to be better.

Not saying TGS didn't do cool stuff, but we're not quite as good as Greg.

DPH: I don't think the fact that he was drunk excuses what he did. I've done stupid shit while drunk, but I've never tried to use it as a defense. If he hadn't been drunk in the first place, he wouldn't have done it, and no one makes you drink except yourself.

Besides, if he was in a situation where he could be dancing in front of preschoolers, then he was probably drunk in public, and that's a law I happen to agree with. The man has no one to blame except himself.

Tonight, there was an interesting potential suspect. The guy was a registered sex offender. His crime: he got drunk and danced around in the nude. The problem was he did in front of preschoolers. My question is the law that bad that a guy while drunk dancing in the nude accidently gets in front of preschoolers becomes a sex offender? If so, is the punishment equitable to the crime?

Yes, we have a bit of free time. I'm going to go over my old files to ensure the markup is clean and comments/info are clearly noted. Given how long ago I wrote it up, it could probably use a bit of polishing.

FS and I are still unemployed, but have been keeping busy job hunting and interviewing. (I think I might have a part-time job lined up.) FS is also working on code as examples for his resume. I won't need his help to implement the new site design, but I will use his preliminary code (and help) to eventually implement a CR Member's profile section -- since we're keeping it active -- that allows users to update their own data without me as a middleman.

I just discovered this site a week ago, and was so amazed that I made it through all three seasons of the gargoyles saga. I thought the writing and the stories were absolutely wonderful. Which brings me to this...are you guys going to keep it going with a Season 4 or at least finish up season 3, if it is unfinished? There's still obviously loose threads and plotlines to tie up. I'm just hoping that it hasn't been abandoned. I'm so anxious to know what happens now that Goliath and Elisa are (finally!) married, or mated or whatever. Thanks!

lonerider- why yes, we do have an extremely pared-down staff compared to the 30-odd people involved back when TGS was started, and dare I say, going strong. Spen covered the rest. We have had some recent resurgence in offers to help, though.

Lady Mystic - I'm for keeping the profiles- if you are concerned about security, maybe you could "black out" (or delete) information you feel might compromise people. But I feel there is something to be said about associating your name and presence with something you feel/felt strongly about, and being able to come back years later and still see it there. (Then again, I do have a thing about monuments to the past being reminders of what our future could be.) Are you two having the free time to work on the site overhaul again? Not much, really.

Hmm. The current number is certainly more than sufficiant, however, I was hoping that at least one picture of Mary Sefton would eventually be added (seing that she was a regular and all).

Yes and yes. I still use the section fairly frequently, and the only reason I haven't gotten a profile myself is because my birthday is on August fourth, and that's a rather crowded day already. As for the security issue, I personally think that it was a chance they took when they first posted them, and I myself don't really see how one could really get much in the way of damaging information from them. If this were a larger forum I'd be far more wary, but as small and out of the way as this place is, I don't think there's much to be worried about.

5. Do you still want a manually updated events calendar for the CR Member's section? (An automated one will require recoding and a redesign.) Or would a simple list of events (that doesn't need to be updated to reflect the year's format) be sufficient?

I quite like that last idea. For one thing, it would eliminate my main barrier to having a member profile. And on a computer as slow as mine, it would probably load quicker.

6. Any other suggestions, recommendations, concerns, or comments? If so, this is the time to voice them!

Not that I can think of. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

Lonerider26 : Welcome to the comment room! The end of "Longest Day, Part One" was a dream sequence. Can't remember off the top of my head whose dream it was, though.

While yes, the main series has not been updated since before 9/11, Timedancer, Pendragon, and Untold Tales have all had new episodes since then. While you're waiting for the new season, you might want to check those out; they're all exellent, particularly the latter two.
And I'm fairly sure that Mei Sing will be coming back next season (just my guess though, I'm not on staff).

And you aren't the only one who wishes everyone would post more. Feel free to post anytime you want, though. If you have any questions, comments, complaints, or anything at all related to TGS, I'm sure that either DPH, Lynati or myself will respond as soon as we see it. (Of course, that's not always daily, since there's rarely any posting here.)

Honestly, I think you've kept it quite neat and trim, having just a little more than what is minimally required.

Just the two you mentioned, although an argument can be made for the members section.

3. Do you still want new and additional avatars added to the CR, or is the current usable supply sufficient?

I like the number we have here. Now if there were new stories and more art, that would be another matter, but for now the list is long enough.

4. Do you still want a CR Member's section? If so, do you still want the ability to create and update your member profile?

Well, since I want mine pared down quite a bit already, and I don't think it's viewed all that much, I don't think it's necessary anymore.

5. Do you still want a manually updated events calendar for the CR Member's section? (An automated one will require recoding and a redesign.) Or would a simple list of events (that doesn't need to be updated to reflect the year's format) be sufficient?

I like the second one. Less of a coding issue.

My thoughts on the survey:

I, personally, find it unnecessary to include additional CR images when very few of the current ones are even used. I also believe the CR Members section can be deactivated, and possibly, deleted due to lack of activity. There are only one or two CR Members who actually update their profile data anymore. And given how much time has passed since some members have participated in the forum, I have some concern over the security of their data. While anyone can search the archives to get details, it's far too easy to obtain said info from abandoned profiles. (Yes, I'm entitled to a change in perspective. While I like archiving and maintaining the integrity of data, I value security and privacy even more.)

The extensive guidelines for submitting forum feature requests was necessary upon its inception due to the volume of requests, but I feel this is unnecessary now. Very few requests for forum features are made anymore. Any requests can easily be broadcasted to me through the forum or via email.

Essentially, I feel the CR Information section should be pared down to better suit the current needs of the forum. If more features (for the complementary resources, or for the actual forum) were needed, I would recommend relocating the Comment Room to Ning.com, which offers a great platform, free service, customizable features, and optional add-ons.

The archive has been updated to include CR posts from the year 2007, which happens to be - as all of you know - one single file. As such, you can find archived weeks/posts from the years 2006 and 2007 (to the present) by clicking on "2006-Present). For consistency, links are presented in the same format as "Incomplete" CR weeks.

I also corrected the broken links that were brought to my attention by Spen. (Thanks Spen!)

ADMINS PAGE:

Administrator's names are now linked to their respective CR member profiles, where available. I thought users, particularly new users, might appreciate and benefit from this little addition.

NO ASSISTANT ADMIN:

Fire Storm, who used to be an Assistant Admin of CR Information, has stepped down from that official title for personal reasons. He will, however, aid me with PHP programming when needed. Lady Mystic : Speaking of the archive, I've been thinking, is it really necessary to have seperate years these days? What I mean is, since 2007 & 2008 will only be having two "weeks", shouldn't we just put them in a "2006-Present" folder? It would also save on unnecessary double posting. Just an idea.

Two bits of good news:

1)Diamond comics has published an estimated release date of March 10 for gargoyles issue #8.

2)According to Greg Weisman, Bad Guys issue #2 is at Disney's office. If patterns hold true, I predict a release date April 16th or sooner for bg issue #2. Note, this is *my* prediction, not anything official.

Sorry I've been away guys, not like anyone noticed. I'm still trying to do my best to keep up with gargoyle stuff. Not that easy when I live in a city where i don't even know where there is a comic book shop. I personally am planning to wait until San Diego Comic Con and get all the comics i don't have there and have them signed by the creators. That will be awesome. Issue #10 will come out after issue #9 comes out. Issue #9 hasn't come out yet. Issue #9 will come out after issue #8 comes out. Issue #8 is what is currently being waited on. We know issue #8 isn't coming out this week. We are fairly sure that issue #8 isn't coming out next week. The earliest possible date that we expect is March 19. Actually, I was thinking about doing that for all the stuff we don't get to after TGS Gargoyls Season 4 is out. Rahsaan has actually started to get us some feedback on the incomplete outlines in the last couple weeks, and it's sparked recent work on two separate stories.

There hasn't been a full season for upwards of 4 years now and I know Greg and Robby at least have given up keeping any of the 'secrets'. It's been said a very skeletal skeleton crew is working on more stuff -- but this was the case 4 years ago as well. In the entire 18 months I was there I think only three people other than myself contributed more than one whole, new outline, and they all left. I'd guess from this that the remaining people aren't really numerous enough or able to give the time or energy to push a project this ambition to completion.

It's a bit of a shame because in 2003 at least there were some pretty good stories -- and at least half a dozen completed or near completion in some sort of draft form. The window to bring the series to a dignified climax and give way to the official continuation in the comics has passed, but I'd be happy to see a kind of 'gallery of unseen stories' collecting the notes and plots and drafts that are still out there. I think people would still get a kick out of it all. Oh well.

DPH - money isn't the problem. the problem is something to the effect of the host site said the domain had expired, and the domain people said that no, the domain name had been renewed automatically. Gunjack thinks it might have been renewed pointing to the old location; they're working on getting it sorted out.
