Hey Greg! I am a big fan of both the Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice. I am hoping that Young Justice does not suffer a similar fate that the Spectacular Spider-Man did. Like a lot of people, I am racking my brain trying to figure out who Artemis is. However, instead of simply throwing a name (or group of names) at you and asking you if it's her, since, knowing you, you would probably say "no comment," I thought I'd try a more subtle approach. So here goes:

1.)In the mainstream comics, is Artemis in any way associated with Green Arrow?

2.)Roughly what decade was Artemis first introduced?

3.)Will Artemis's identity be revealed by the end of the first 26 episodes?

These next two questions don't have to do with Artemis, but I thought I'd ask them anyway:
4.)Why did you decide not to have Robin in the episode "Denial"?
5.)Given the current ratings for Young Justice, would you say that the chance that Cartoon Network would order more episodes is good?

Denial is probably my favorite episode so far. Mainly because I knew who everyone was and I got to hear some claasic Gargoyle voices again! I loved Ed Asner's performance as Kent Nelson and Thom did a fantastic job as Klarion! I really hope we get to see more of him in the future! And I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Very cool, but I have a feeling Wally isn't gonna get to keep the helmet. Oh, and the way you handled the helmet and Nabu-very cool. Keep it up, man!

2) With the evolution of Speedy into Red Arrow. Would it be possible in future, for other sidekicks to progress to their next stage? I.E. Robin (Dick) to Nightwing? THANK YOU for throwing in Klarion in that last episode... didn't see that coming... nor him being voiced by Thom Adcox-Hernandez, that was perfect casting! so far I'm noticing that you guys are kinda taking obscure characters here and there throughout the DC universe and making them even more interesting and appealing than I was expecting..

I got into this show because I heard Phil Bourassa designed the characters and I really enjoyed Crisis on Two Earths; I noticed there's a similar art direction. My question is:

1. Did you guys always have him in mind due to his Justice League designs, or did he come to you?
2. Were you playing around with any other looks to the show, before deciding on a more realistic approach? If so, were there any influences?

A quick question: Is Eearth 16 the same Earth shown in Crisis On Two Earth?
Black Canary looks the same, so does Martian Manhunter, Red Tornado, etc.
Now I know that both YJ and Crisis share the same character designers, but for the chracters looking almost completely alike, that drove the little cogs in my belgian mind turning.
Anyway, ûber kudos to you and Brandon for this great, great show! (gotta love youtube for international exposure!)

Like the answered poster before me, this is more of a comment (make that plural, 'comments') rather than a question. Firstly, I would like to say that the show has proved amazing, in terms of animation, storytelling, dialogue, and character portrayal. So bravo, and encore! Anyway, there are several issues I'd like to comment on in particular, some positive and some admittedly negative:

1. When I'd heard that Aqualad was going to be team leader, I confess I was upset. But the way that played out was done very well, and I like Kaldur in the role. He's proven to be strong, wise, and levelheaded. If/when Robin takes over, I won't be disappointed to see him bearing the title either (though I hope Kaldur doesn't die in order for that to happen; not that I've seen or heard any hints that say he will, but when dealing with DC Comics, one can never be too careful) -- but in the meantime, I'm impressed with Aqualad as leader.

2. I like Miss Martian's character. I was afraid her personality would be gotten wrong somehow, but you've written her spot on. I was also fearful that her voice wouldn't suit her; however, Danica McKellar really brings out M'gann's naivete and innocence. While I'm at it, the same goes for Roy Harper: he's my top favourite DC hero, and you've really done him justice by bringing out his angry, rebellious side, but also making sure to show that he still cares for his friends. And Crispin Freeman is amazing as Roy.

3. I love the romantic triangle between Superboy, Miss Martian, and Kid Flash (I'm a sucker for romance). But the recent Kid Flash/Artemis hints from 'Denial' are killing me. I'm not fond of Artemis's character (sorry, but there it is), and she and Wally seem painfully mismatched to me. I just can't see Wally with a 'spitfire.' Not a fan...

4. I've heard Wonder Girl is going to show up, and I have my fingers crossed that it's going to be Donna Troy. I suppose it will be exciting to finally see a Wonder GIRL (Wonder Woman's had plenty of screentime) on an awesome show, either way -- that is to say if it's Cassie Sandsmark and not Donna. But I'll still be disappointed if it's not the latter. That said, the hopeless romantic in me also has my fingers crossed to see at least some, if not plenty of, romantic tension between Roy Harper and Donna Troy.

And with our latest episode, I have realized that I really, really like this show. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the pilot a lot. I didn't much like the third episode, but after that it started getting better and better with every episode. So, now, by episode seven, I can say that I've officially warmed up to "Young Justice." More on this later, now on to the episode itself.

Kid Flash finally receives a much needed episode focusing on him. Okay, we knew he was stubborn, we knew he was a sleaze, but we focus more on these things. His skepticism of the supernatural was front and center. Although, I have seen a lot of people misinterpret what the moral of this episode was. A lot of people saw it as "magic is real" but I disagree, that is a very, very simplistic way of looking at it without putting in any effort to think about it. The lesson of the episode had more to do with being open minded, that there are some things that cannot be explained, and that taking a leap of faith is often necessary. And, once again, I find myself referencing "Babylon 5" with the following quote.

"Faith and reason are the shoes on your feet! You can travel further with both than you can with just one."

And no, that is not about subscribing to a religious belief, hell that quote was written by an Atheist. I myself am Agnostic, I have no actual religious beliefs of my own, I do not subscribe to any, but I still have faith that there are things beyond our understanding out there.

But back to the episode. I will admit to being quite unfamiliar with Dr. Fate. I've seen him on "Justice League" and "Justice League Unlimited" but that's where my knowledge of the character ends. This, however, was an altogether different depiction of him, but I think I liked it a lot more. I loved Ed Asner in the role of Kent Nelson, I loved how affable he was with just about everyone, particularly Madame Xanadu in the teaser.

I also loved Kent's advice to Wally about finding a spitfire of his own. I agree with that one whole heartedly. Again, getting a little personal here, but I am not attracted to women like Miss Martian at all. I don't know why, I'm just not. I've always been attracted to the spitfire types. I love women with fire in them, the type of woman who can and will kick my ass. That's what Artemis seems to be, while Miss Martian (and to be fair, I am probably still underestimating her) is more the type to want to be Superboy's very own June Cleaver. I guess this sums up why I have always preferred Peter Parker with Mary Jane Watson instead of Gwen Stacy (well, Romita's Gwen Stacy).

Okay, on with the rest of the episode.

Doesn't seem like Wally is listening to Kent's advice. But, he's young, he'll grow. One thing that I have seen a lot that does bug me is people saying he has feelings for Miss Martian. Um, no he doesn't. The only feeling for her he has is in his pants. Otherwise he wouldn't have so blatantly hit on Black Canary right in front of Miss Martian (not that she cared) two episodes ago.

Wally wearing Dr. Fate's helm was really, really cool. Although I can't help but wonder about why that thing is on his shelf with his other souvenirs. Shouldn't he have handed that over to the Justice League? And isn't the robotic eye on his shelf a camera feeding images directly back to T.O. Morrow? Doesn't Morrow work for the Light? Yup, there's some pipe laying.

Klarion the Witch Boy was wonderfully creepy as a villain. I've only seen him before in an episode of "Batman" back in the late 90's, when Batman teamed up with Etrigan the Demon. I'll admit, I thought Klarion was quite lame then, and would always change the channel when that episode showed up in re-runs. But I liked him here, he seemed a lot more sinister, and downright creepy. Of course, I also always enjoy hearing Thom Adcox' voice. And, is it just me, but aside from Lexington, he almost always seems to voice bad guys and psychos. Don't get me wrong, he's great at it, but I always think of him as Lexington first... well, I suppose there was evil Lex in "Future Tense." And Thom is kind of a bad boy in real life... ;)

Let's see, in this episode we had Jeff Bennett as Red Tornado and Abra Kadabra; Thom Adcox as Klarion; Cree Summer as Madame Xanadu; and Ed Asner as Kent Nelson. Almost a mini "Gargoyles" cast reunion. Marina Sirtis already confirmed she's appearing down the line as Queen Bee. And I doubt Weisman will resist casting Keith David in this show. So, I'll have my fingers crossed for Jonathan Frakes, Bill Faggerbakke, Salli Richardson, Brigitte Bako, Tom Wilson, Clancy Brown, and... okay, this list is beginning to get comprehensive. You get the idea.

Artemis is really growing on me. I had a feeling I would really like the character before she appeared, and I was right. She's my favorite character on the team. And I love how she is the only one on the team that doesn't let Wally get away with his crap. Hopefully he'll wise up soon and love that too.

This episode hit some personal chords for me, and like I said, finally really warmed me up to this show. Don't get me wrong, I was enjoying it prior to this. But there are shows I enjoy, and shows I warm up to. I enjoy "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" but there is nothing really special about it, and it's really, really lowbrow. But I enjoy it. But, after nineteen episodes of that, it's safe to say I'll never warm to it. And I think the big reason why I was hesitant about this series up until now is that I warmed to "Gargoyles" and "Spectacular Spider-Man" right away. I expected the same of this series, but it took longer. Maybe that's because I've spent most of my life as a Marvel Zombie (although Marvel is slowly decapitating this particular zombie). But, at this point, I can safely say that I love this show.

Hi Greg! Will any animation errors be corrected before DVD release of Young Justice? I rarely catch them, but since Kid Flash was talking at the time, it was noticeable. During Infiltrator, while guarding the woman, his goggles switch between on/off his eyes, then back again, while he’s telling off Artemis.

If any others have occurred I missed them all, but someone out there might have spotted something else that pulled them out of the moment. Thanks!

Hi Greg. I'm loving Young Justice so far, and was rather surprised with some of the things you've been able to show, especially in the Bane episode. I don't know if the standards have changed recently, but I’m used to seeing grittier subjects being only alluded to. I really like it! I think it makes their circumstances seem more real and dire. Since I’ve already given my favorable impressions in earlier questions, I wanted to mention two things which I have found to be minor annoyances, mostly because they happen so frequently:

The first is Megan’s use of youthful vernacular. It’s awkward. Since you write these kinds of lines naturally for other characters, I imagine it’s intentional to make her seem more alien. I just don’t know if it’s having the intended impact. The strongest example I can think of is after receiving an explanation of something in their plane, Megan responds to herself, “Like, duh, Megan!” Apart from the slightly awkward usage, and her not saying “like,” much, it gives me a negative impression of her when she does that. I tend to associate that kind of speech with bubble-gum, ditz caricatures. This may be contributing to the negative reaction I’ve seen mentioned a lot here towards female portrayal in the first few episodes. Artemis and Black Canary certainly don’t paint any negative pictures about women.

The second thing I've found slightly annoying is Robin picking apart words in every single episode, even if it’s just leaving off a prefix rather than a whole conversation about it. I don't think it would bother me if it happened often rather than always. I look forward to YJ episodes, and never know what kind of story to expect, but I also go in thinking, “Okay, what’s Robin going to say this time?” Since nothing else is so consistent (at least at present), it stands out a lot. It’s not a huge deal, but the frequency it’s used elevates it to catch-phrase notoriety, and it doesn’t seem like the sort of thing I should immediately call to mind when I think of Young Justice (Like Flintstones & “yabadabadoo”). I don’t know how you feel about catch-phrases, though.

I hope this fan feedback is worth something to you, even if you disagree. I’m sure I’m not the only viewer who feels this way. Keep up the good work!

Enjoyed the latest episode- Denial. One question- (multiple parts):
What that Madam Xanadu, ~the~ Madam Xanadu of the DCU or just a shout out?
I read the recently ended series, and assuming that the series was not a departure from her previous characterizations, that Madam Xanadu was an immensely powerful magical being from an elder species to humans. (Can't remember what they were called, but they thought Atlantians were newbies, and when humans finally started upright they were primitive animals.) That and also Morgan LeFay's sister.
The lack of the signature "Enter freely and be unafraid" sign would point to a shout out, but the comment about her being ideally suited points the other way. If it is her- is she a young human with magical aptitude or an ancient magical being who somehow seems to have forgotten?

1. will we be seeing a lot of focus on Wally's development in this series of Young Justice, or will his 'time' be coming later? right now he's been coming off to me as the most immature of the cast and pretty self absorbed (like his bad treatment of M'gann, objectifying the girls etc.). I always liked that in the comics Wally got a lot of development on these things (and it's nice you didn't just do a rehash of JLU Wally), but of course it mostly started *after* he was Kid Flash, so I have no idea how that fits into your plans.

Hello,congratulations for Young Justice. I have two questions related with the "Infiltrator" episode:

1) Do the Young Justice members still go to missions with their mentors when they are not acting as a team? If not, what implications have exactly the fact that Artemis is the new Green Arrow's protegee? I ask it because Green Arrow remarks than he took Artemis because Roy wanted to act solo.

2) Why has Speedy/Green Arrow a member name and acces to the Zeta-tube? The numbers had to be given after the Cadmus incident (provided that Superboy is b04) and at this moment Speedy had made the decision of leaving the "group".

I was wondering if you could tell us what the heights of the primary 7 kids (Red Arrow, Superboy, Aqualad, Miss Martian, Kid Flash, Artemis, Robin) in Young Justice were, or at least list them in order of who's tallest to shortest. Robin seems to be consistently the shortest, but I'm unsure where the rest fall in comparison based on conflicting screen shots. (Silly fan artist likes to know who's taller.)

Infiltrator comments:

1- Last one first- I noticed in the credits that three characters had special creator credits- Batman, Miss Martian and Cheshire. Why do some characters have special credits? (I get that some contracts might have been less 'work for hire' than others, but I can't imagine Kane (or his estate) having more control than Schuster & Segal did back in the day (or their estates now), especially considering that Superboy was not one of the specially credited characters, and IIRC Schuster and/or Segal's family actually won in court that they owned the character and he literally died in continuity until DC could sort that one out.)

2- Artimas' interaction with Cheshire and the Light reminds me a little of Cass (Batgirl) and the League of Assasins. More interesting is that she has some sort of relationship with Cheshire, when in the print universe Roy was err... involved with her.

3- Interesting- M'gan has siblings (of some sort) on Mars. I figure asking if she's a White or Green Martian is a "Wait and see" type of question. Would it be a legit question to ask if Mars has a living population in the YJ universe? (just to be clear, if so, I'm asking that ;)

4- What made you have Roy choose Red Arrow over Arsenal as his new code name?

5- Do I read correctly that Speedy, Robin and Aqualad where aquanted with Speedy before the League membership debacle? They, and by extension the rest of the group, seem to relate to him as a friend and someone they worked with in the past and not someone they crossed paths with once.

6- The destroyed weapon- did the stolen data survive the destruction of the device? I would assume that Star Labs stuff would have been downloaded, but the partial attack on Wayne Industries could still be in the device.

First: Sorry for freaking out with my last question. I had just watched Drop Zone, and I'm a bit sensitive about the portrayal of my language and my culture in media (maybe someday I'll find it in my heart to forgive Jurassic Park's depiction of "San José, Costa Rica" but I don't think so)

Okay Wally. He always gets the rep as the clown and flirt, and in JL cartoon he was the not so smart one and of course the girls aren't very impressed by him. But Wally has a good heart and he isn't stupid and I would just love to see that an alpha girl could learn to care for him. The girls are eying Conner. Sure moody tall well built good looks. Teenagers.I would love to see the clown come up trumps for once. Be nice to see Conner like a girl who doesn't go for him at first sight. Yeah I am not a fan of that Miss Martian.Thank you for Artemis. I hope to see some more girls soon too.I really hope we see Zatanna and Wonder Girl.

Infiltrator

Another week, and another new episode of "Young Justice." This series just gets better and better. The line-up is finally complete as Artemis joins the team.

I had a feeling Artemis was going to be my favorite member of the team, and the episode did not disappoint. She was intriguing from the get-go. Who is she? How come no one seems to have heard of her before. When Green Arrow introduced her as his niece, something just felt off. Well, the theme of the show seems to be Secrets and Lies, and so far they're doing it beautifully.

At the end of the episode, when Cheshire and later Speedy... er, I mean, Red Arrow, had their little confrontations with Artemis, I cannot say I was surprised. But still intrigued.

The League of Shadows served as this episode's antagonist. I think that was Sensei issuing the orders, but at the end he was speaking to the Light, and one particular member I don't think we've heard speak before this episode. If Sensei called him master, than I think we can safely identify him as Ra's al Ghul. Ra's knows Batman's real identity, and I cannot believe for a second that the attack on WayneTech wasn't a ploy to hack the Batcave.

As for the other new characters, I really, really liked Cheshire. I am interested in seeing her relationship with Artemis explored, not to mention that being a sucker for dark-eyed brunettes, she was hot. And she kicked a lot of ass.

I spotted the evil Spider-Man character, who wikipedia tells me is named Black Spider. After Weisman's previous series, "The Spectacular Spider-Man," I got a kick out of seeing him. I especially got a kick when I realized who was voicing him. None other than the spectacular Spider-Man himself, Josh Keaton. I'd recognize that impact grunt anywhere. My brother recognized him too.

No idea who the third assassin was.

It was nice to see Speedy again, and even nicer to see he has gone his own way as Red Arrow. But best of all was not just seeing him being an angry jerk. He still cares about his friends. That icy warning to Artemis at the end was the best development he's had all season. Looking forward to seeing more of him.

But, by far, the biggest surprise of the episode was Wally NOT hitting on a girl, specifically Artemis. He's hit on everything else that lacks a penis, but not Artemis. I wonder if that will change, or if he is always going to see her as his buddy's replacement.

The biggest laugh of the episode goes to the segments showing why telepathically linking a group of teenagers together is a bad idea. It reminded me of that episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" where Buffy gained telepathic powers.

But this episode left a lot of questions. I understand why Artemis is lying. But why was Green Arrow lying about who Artemis is? Was Batman in on it? If now, you'd think he'd vet new recruits better. Was the Light talking about Artemis at the end, or are we being misdirected? Well, it's either her or Superboy, who was created to be their weapon. I've noticed the Light don't seem broken up about him being in enemy hands, and you'd they would.

Young Justice Question Time!

I maybe the first one to mention this, but The Light seems to be very similar to The Venture Brothers' Guild of Calamitous Intent's Council Of Thirteen. The Council is also a secret group of supervillians who meet their underlings in a dark room and hide their identities behind screens (and officially assign heroes supervillians).

1. Did you know about The Council Of Thirteen when developing YJ? Or is it a coincidence? Parody? Or a homage to your channel mate's show on Adult Swim?

2. Did/Does Miss. Martian have a crush on Superman? Does she really like the boy or just the "Super"? It only makes sense that she would have a crush on the "Original" as well as the "Imitiation".

When Miss. Martian first meets Superboy she compliments him on his shirt, and then in YJ#0, SB runs out a buys a dozen more just like it.

3. Does Superboy only wear the "S" T-shirt for himself, Superman, AND Miss. Martian?

I've been wondering this for a while and had to force myself to wait until Artemis' debut to ask but.

4. Why make both minority characters blond and have light colored eyes?
4.a. Do Aqualad and Artemis dye their hair?

You had to tell us that Artemis is half Vietnamese instead of it being obvious from looking at her. You have to tell us, instead of showing us. I get that Aqualad is from Atlantis and therefore should be "exotic" looking. He looks like a cross between Sisquo the rapper who's biggest hit was "The Thong Song" and Spyke Storm's nephew from X-Men: Evolution. But Artemis is blond, blue eyed, and has no accent. Nothing that sets her apart from Wally, Dick, & Speedy. Nothing that says 'I'm Asian American". I'm sure this isn't a case of let's have ethnic characters, but not TOO ethnic..........

I'm kind of underwhelmed by the opening theme for YJ. I was really hoping for a catchy opening theme (with original animation) like W.I.T.C.H., Spectacular Spiderman, or Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes'. It took me a while to realize that you all but fresh clips of the current episode in the opening, but it's still really short.

5. Is there a reason why the theme is so short?
5. a. Do you have any say in how long the theme is or is it just up to Cartoon Network?
5. b. Does a shorter theme mean you get more time for actual story telling?

I was kind of hoping to hear Jesse McCartney sing the YJ theme. Which brings me to this, since Batman: The Brave & The Bold's "Mayhem Of The Music Meister" has established that Black Canary can sing. And Robin's voice actor is a singer....

6. Why not have the Birds duet? And the rest of the cast sing?

7. Any chance of Ace: The Dark Canine and Krypto: The Super Pooch showing up?

I watched "Infiltrator" last night and being from Miami....Whooo!!! Thanks for the shout out! But there's no such thing as "Miami Beach University"...

8. Is Miami Beach University supposed to stand in for the University of Miami? And did the League of Shadows destroy it as a test? To get valuable information? Or revenge?

This brings me to the character that most irks me in the series: Speedy. He's such a stuck up jerk, I can't stand him. He thinks he's all that but hasn't really proved himself. He really doesn't play well with others. Speedy goes in and rescues the doctor and she tells him not to leave the weapon behind. He leaves it anyway instead of using the explosives he had with him to blow it up. Next he dumps the woman on the YJL and leaves them to clean up his mess. To do what exactly? Run home and blog about how he's a Lone Wolf now and no one understands him? He doesn't even see through his own mission, that being rescue the kidnapped scientist and neutralize the threat to her life. Next, he makes a big show of "changing his name and distancing himself" from Green Arrow, by becoming Red Arrow. Really, picking another color word and your mentor's last name, does not a separate identity make. Finally, at the end we're supposed to believe he really cares about someone other than himself, just cause he threatens Artemis a teenage girl? Where were you when the real battles were being fought? Jerk!

9. Had Speedy not quit, would he have been a good leader for the team?

I don't think so, he'd have pushed for leadership since's he's the oldest, while Batman would've wanted Robin. But no way 18 year old Speedy would take orders from 13 year old Robin. Plus, I'm sure the first time the other kids didn't listen to him, he'd throw a prima donna tantrum and abandon them. Aqualad is much better suited for the job.

I'm enjoying the show a lot, especially the more grounded in reality approach. Batman's not going to be punching out Darkseid and Robin won't be fighting 10 feet tall villians made of cinder block. Nothing out of the realm of what a normal human can handle.

10. Will we see the kids go on patrol and handle regular street level crime?

11. How come there are no previews for next week's episode during the credits?

big time fan, love so much about the show. its like the next generation of cartoons. except for one gripe.

the dialogue, after watching spectacular spider-man, where one could actually envision a real person speaking those lines, i saw how a correct balance of realism and fantasy could be blended. Peter Parker would be going through spider-man situations with banter and conversations that outdid the Motion Pictures.

while young justice on the other hand, loses this major component that drew so many to spectacular spider-man, i know its unfair to compare that to anything considering how stand alone it was in the quality department but, i wouldn't if the dialogue in young justice, by consensus, wasn't so noticeable off than your previous efforts.

aqualad, and superboy MIGHT get away with a few natural sounding lines, but everyone recording voices in the main cast BLEW it when establishing their character's voice tone and delivery.

kid flash sounds like a father trying to imitate his son.

miss martian really does sound like an alien, in the sense that the voice actor speaks like she has never heard the English language. that's not a good thing.

robin... i can deal with the pre-puberty angle but for his actor being one of the most high profile on the show... what material are you guys giving him for real. when it comes to robins dialogue, the people who test and feedback on these lines obviously have too much respect for this writing team to break the bad news to them,

The grand scope of this storyline is incredible, the animation is bar none, again, huge fan. But with all of the blood, sweat, and tears that i know have been put into this work of art, how on earth did anyone approve "hello megan?", or robin's 13 year old S.A.T. word of the day (terbed? yall set your self up for all the backlash/insults from that gimic.)

I wish it was just my opinion but you know, the internet these days Greg, if everyone's saying it its fact. I'll watch regardless, please believe that, but just know i'm a die hard, your losing others fast.

How exactly did you plan out which characters/locations(even peripheral ones) you were going to use for the show? Yo Greg, sorry I’ve kinda fallen behind with these reviews but life sometimes gets in the way. Anyway, I enjoyed this ep a lot. I have to admit I did find Superboy’s anger issues a bit one not in “Welcome to Happy Harbor” even though I did understand why it was so. Lets face it, being raised in a tube by psychic goblins is probably going to leave you a little lacking in social skills. But this ep, (and to a certain extent “Drop-Zone”) has done a great job of letting us see other sides of his character, as well as exploring the underlying reasons for all that anger.

I particularly liked his exchange with Clark, poor kids practically giving Big Blue puppy dog eyes. Not that I don’t sympathise with Clark. Even with the best will in the world, dealing with your own clone/son has got to be a pretty daunting prospect. If I were brutally honest, I’d have to admit Clark is handling this way better then I would be. I know if I met a clone of myself, my first instinct would probably be to reach for a torch and pitch fork. Hardly the rational or ethical response I’ll readily admit, but luckily the Man of Steel is a lot more level headed then me.

Loved Peter MacNicol as Professor Ivo, he brought a great sense of humour and menace to the character without making him sound like a clone of Doc Ock. I just dig the idea tha this short skinny middle-aged nerd is able to strike terror into the hearts of the Justice League. I also noticed that his character design has a very similar colour scheme to AMAZO, red hair and green clothes. I loved this because it neatly explains AMAZO’s goofy silver design, Ivo designed the android to basically look like and idealised version of himself, brilliant! Hope we see the M.O.N.Q.I.s again. J

Black Canary was pretty cool, it’s good to hear Vanessa Marshall again. I’ve heard she’s your favourite DC character so I’m interested to see how you handle her.

All and all another great ep, I’ll try and get my “Infiltrator” review up sometime tomorrow.

While of course Lex is a member of the Light, as well as other villains I'm sure many comic book readers are aware of, like the Brain, possibly, but while their inevitable reveal will be a shock to the characters and possibly the viewers, most of them, who presumably don't read comics and have little to no comic book knowledge will have no clue who these villains are, as they haven't appeared in the show yet. Revealing a shadowy villain to be a villain no one's seen before will feel cheap to most viewers.

Now that I am finally caught up on YJ episodes...{I'm the only person I've ever heard of to have any problems with TiVO, let alone have one box go from working poorly to actually dying, and now the new one is working no better!?} A few reactions and questions...

1- Aqualad's water manipulation power reminds me of 'water bending' in Avatar. Was that a visual inspiration, or just a happenstance?

2- I had a surprising realization. Robin is a bit annoying- That's not the surprise; he is annoying as a 13 year old trying a smidge too hard to run with the big kids most probably would be. (I started reading comics with the preternaturally mature Tim Drake as Robin so it does stick out to me.) The realization that surprised me was that I have no idea if that is consistent with or devient from Dick's personality when he first appeared back in the Golden Age.

3- I'm not sure if this is something you would care to answer or if it is a 'wait and see' thing but... If YJ has the "Don't call them sidekicks" vibe, will we be seeing plain old 'call them sidekicks'? (I'm thinking more world building background than full show characters. This is a young universe, there aren't that many sidekicks yet so the example of these sidekicks should first be leading to more, and to reactions to kids in the field in general. Foreground I'm fairly certain is a 'wait and see' answer.)
3a- Will we be seeing any of the YJ crew in their sidekick capacity like we did in the series opening sequence?

4- The animated YJ members assumption Speedy's presence whenever clues of Artimas shows up mirrors the printed members' assumption of Arrowette's return when Empress first showed up.

5- I like Black Canary's design, also her characterization and acting- the leggings could be simplified visually from her famous fishnets, or they could equally be a more practical protective material. Her body actually looks capable of the fighting she does. And the arm wound was subtle enough to just be there like working past a battle wound would be for her in, uh..real life. It was used wonderfully to show her personality, similarly her reliance on her fighting skills over her meta ability. (Superboy picked up on that nicely when Amazo called on her skills twice- first for her scream and second, when the fighting heated up, for her brawling skills.)

6- Speaking of Black Canary- in the comics, despite their closeness in age, Dinah is often considered Roy's mother. (Making her a rediculously young grandmother.) I'm not a big Green Arrow reader, but I can think of several times Roy and Ollie saying that Dinah was a better mother to him than Ollie ever was a father. And IIRC correctly there was a strong 'proud mama' vibe over Red Arrow's membership in Dinah's JLA. Assuming at least part of that relationship is in the animated continuity it adds an additional level of depth to her mentoring the angry young Kon-el when her own angry young Roy is on her mind.

7- One last note on some of the Superman complaints I've been reading in the que- I'm foundinng the animation so expressive (as with my two previous Black Canary comments) that what some complain is missing in Superman's failure to be fatherly, (or at least big brotherly- a clone seems more brother than son to me), to Superboy to be clearly on screen in facial expressions and body langauge. I don't think Clark is being short changed at all.

8- And a request...can the "Come on Megan!"s be limited to one per ep? I get her Earth name is new and she is still enjoying the sound and play of it, but it is a bit much.

Oh Young Justice is the first of your show's that I've watched, but it was so good that it made me want to look into Spectacular Spiderman, and WoW it's really good I'm only a couple episode in but I love the way you have all the villains kinda developing into villains instead of just villain of the week type of set up.

I really enjoyed these first preview episodes of Young Justice. And perhaps even moreso than that i enjoyed to hear Crispin Freeman to return back to your services: i think he made fantastic work as both Speedy and Guardian, and eventhough you can still hear a bit that it is the same actor, he made it possible for those two characters to be divided and personified from one and another.

He was excellent as Electro, and i was fan of him before that(i came hooked sometimes around i first saw first few episodes of Wolf,s Rain).

From what i,ve been able to gather, he seems to be not only true professional, but also smart, intelligent guy with great thoughts, coupled with sharp and delightful sense of humor. I have seem him to appear in many of Gatherings(often paired with good old Thom Lexington Adcox), and i,ve heard that he was fan long before your paths crossed, often discussing with his fans about serie,s themes.

If it isnt too much trouble, could you give little bit of greenlight how you two met, and how your cooperation began?

Hopes for better to your work from fan from far-off-land Finland: maybe there arent too many Finnish Gargfans, but i am one of them.

Just want to make some comments on what seems to be one of the major things in the last few episodes. Superman/Superboy dynamic.
I think it's good to see Superman is not Mr Perfect/Infallible and can't handle a situation that for once does not call for super speed or heat vision. But it's clear his side is not being shown and maybe that is unfortunate. I expect fear is a major factor here and imagine being last of your race and knowing you can't have kids with humans and suddenly you're faced with Batman telling you have be a father to a clone who could very well be someone bred to take you down. Fear that you can't or will fail Conner. Must bring up so much emotion regarding his own biological father and dead planet. It's a bit much for anyone. Shame you couldn't show some of his reasons.Might have made it more balanced. Batman is not the one to convince Clark in my mind anyway. I think this is where Pa Kent comes in big time. Maybe to some extent Diana and J'onn who seem from the start Clark's sounding boards/close friends. But kudos to you for bringing up an issue that I am sure many youngsters do have to face and we feel empathy for Conner.

My other thing is I hope we see Artemis very soon. Miss Martian is getting on my nerves. There needs to be some more girls to balance off her and soon.

I've read a while back that you said that Black Canary is probably your all time favorite comic book character. So, I'm curious, what is it about Black Canary that interested and fascinated you to put her at the top of a list like that, with so many other characters potentially fighting for a top spot like that?

I know Black Canary and Batman are two of the best at hand to hand combat in the field and Superboy and Flash are inexperienced I get that but how come not one of the stronger heroes are not even involved in 'schooling' the kids? It makes no sense it is only Canary. In my mind she cannot truly teach that very mixed group which includes Flash and Superboy what they really need to know. So are we going to see a meta take them on the mats?

Alas, another inquiry about Young Justice...

You revealed on an earlier question-and-answer that the mysterious Artemis character, which I think have a vague idea on her identity, is half-Caucasian and half-Vietnamese. Since that the show (by proxy, Earth-16) is all about realism, it got me concerned about biological genetics. It would seem that if Artemis were to be Eurasian, her Asian traits would be more accented given the fact that generally Asians have darker hair and eye color, thus becoming more dominant than her European traits. Artemis having blonde hair and blue eyes would be implausible unless she was three-fourths Caucasian and one-fourth Vietnamese. Will there be an adequate explanation for said incoherence? Either way, I don't care. It's fiction and can do away without one.

The fifth episode of "Young Justice" airs, and the series continues its upward climb in quality. This week's episode was penned by Nicole Dubuc, who previously worked with Greg Weisman on "W.I.T.C.H." and "The Spectacular Spider-Man."

Also making a return from "The Spectacular Spider-Man" are Vanessa Marshall as Black Canary, and Peter MacNicol as Professor Ivo. Marshall brings a cool, confident, and collected sexiness to Black Canary that perfectly fits the character. Honestly, I think she's my favorite actress to voice the character, and this is following the incredibly talented Morena Baccarin ("Firefly") and Grey DeLisle ("Avatar the Last Airbender"). I'll admit, I know very little about the character, but I have read that she is Weisman's favorite comic book character of all time, and as such, I am eager to learn more about her. Her character model is great, very sexy (even if I normally don't go for blondes), but it looks like her famous fishnet stockings have been stolen by the Flaming C.

Then there is Professor Ivo, a character I know nothing about except that dead guy in "Justice League" who constructed the android that was occasionally called AMAZO... but almost under protest from the writing team on that show. I liked Peter MacNicol's performance, but listening to him made me wish I was watching more of Dr. Octopus. I'll admit, I am still not quite over the cancellation of "The Spectacular Spider-Man." At this point, I'm willing to bet he's working for the Light.

And finally, rounding out the introductions, we have AMAZO. I mostly know AMAZO from "Justice League" and "Justice League Unlimited" and while he was an intriguing character in those shows, they kind of wrote themselves into a corner with him by turning him into a veritable god. The last time we saw him, he teleported himself to the other end of the universe to figure out a way to defeat Solomon Grundy... and they left him there. Probably Forever. Obviously, I don't think we want someone THAT powerful in "Young Justice." But I enjoyed what we got here.

Now, the emotional core of the episode: Superboy. The hotheaded, Kryptonian clone is beginning to grow on me. I understand him, I understand where he's coming from and why he is the way he is. But he's growing and learning. He's got a long way to go, but he's definitely getting better. I enjoyed seeing him use his head, and turn his anger into a strength when he outwitted AMAZO.

Robin continues to butcher the English language, and even I have to admit it's getting a little old. I understand that this is his quirk. But if I were doing that, most of my friends would have told me to shut up by now. Still, I like him.

I am continuing to really like Kid Flash. My favorite moment had to be him hitting on Black Canary before being royally schooled. On that note, I loved it when she royally schooled Superboy.

Now, as for Superman, I'll admit this upfront, I have never been a fan of Superman and I doubt I will ever be a fan of Superman. The character has always been presented as way too perfect for me. Yes, he is "super" but he is also a man, first and foremost. Men aren't perfect and never will be. Which is why I am one of the few I have conversed with who isn't annoyed about his treatment of Superboy. Well, I am annoyed in the sense that Clark is being a jerk, but I like seeing Clark being portrayed with an understandable character flaw. There is a tendency among many Superman fans, that I've noticed, where if Clark isn't portrayed as being better than Jesus Christ, they go ballistic. I think this is a far more realistic take on the character in this situtation, and it works for me. But then, I'm not a Superman fan, so what do I know?

Overall, a pretty great episode. I look forward to next week's, and the introduction of whomever it was that fired that arrow.

Oh yeah, and my favorite moment in the entire episode, when Clark ordered an Apple Pie and Bruce Wayne ordered a Devil's Food.

I know character development is important here and at times we all seem impatient but why is Superman ...SUPERMAN...of all people being unable to extend even a few words to Superboy? While I expect it to be awkward and a little creepy for him, we are only subjected to seeing Clark come off like a bit of a jerk. And it is so unfair to the character when he is not like that at all! You have people going on that Superman is a d**k and I am like, he's not! You didn't even put a scene showing Clark's internal struggle as if to show well yes we can see ambivalence but show there is something more. That he can show some innate compassion even for a clone. And of course Batman as usual is the best at everything...best leader, best mentor, best father, has the best protege who will leader...the Batworship in Timmverse was so blatant it got pretty aggravating for me as a fan of Superman, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, even Wonder Woman,...as if these heroes were just stupid and usually OOC. I mean I like Batman too but not at the expense of the rest of the League.

I am hoping this show would try to be more balanced and treat every hero with respect and be true to their character. I am hoping the Superman/Superboy thing is resolved with some dignity and not dragged on and on cause we must have someone act like a jerk and let it be Superman. sigh

I noticed something in the video where you and Brandon Vietti discuss what to expect from Young Justice (the one where you said in the end not everyone will survive), one of the clips shows Aquaman with longer hair than he has on the show right now, am I right to assume that as time passes some characters appearances might change, or was the design changed or something?

Do the titles of the YJ episodes have any hidden/double meaning like they did in Spider-Man? Or are they chosen merely to reference subtle plot points.

I get the references of the titles "Independence Day" and "Fireworks," as they literally allude to the American holiday in which the episodes take place and also the fact that the sidekicks become "independent" from their mentors. However, I'm missing the possible references of the other episodes, as they seem to be too literal.
