There's been an amusing little discussion launched in the Toon Zone forums (in the Marvel section) over this question: "Which Marvel characters would you want to see Greg Weisman do an animated series about?" (Contributors were suggesting Spiderman, the X-Men, and the Avengers, among others.)

GARGOYLES BONUS FEATURES> How about some featurettes with Greg in person? you know, crew interviews.

LET THE FANS CHOOSE> How about letting the fans choose one or two episodes to do commentaries on, besides the one Greg chooses? That would be cool.

That is all I will say.

I really hope this guy is for real. I'm still anxious to hear back from Greg W. on whether this is serious, but boy howdy am I hoping!

Even if we don't get to see the pitches, it might be nice to have some basic information included on the DVD about them so fans not already in the know will be aware of their existance.

I've got to agree with Leo here. I don't think that Greg would want the spin-off "promos" to be widely available outside of the Gatherings.

Three of the spin-offs have material available for them that are often presented at The Gathering of the Gargoyles conventions and are fan favorites. There is a New Olympians spin-off pitch presented by Greg Weisman, a Gargoyles: The Dark Ages spin-off pitch as presented by Greg Weisman, and there is a leica reel for the Bad Guys spin-off."

I think these are things that Greg Weissman would like to keep as "Gathering Exclusives" for as long as he can. Especially the "Bad Guys" reel, since the funds to complete it came from Greg himself.

So on a whim I decided to e-mail Mr. Chad Kultgen. While I'd still like to hear Greg confirm that the Gargoyles Second Season DVD is in the works, I figured it couldn't hurt to e-mail him... I mean, in the event that this is a hoax, I'm already recieving every form of SPAM known to mankind so there's almost no danger in trying. Here's the make up of our conversations thus far:

----------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Kultgen,

First off, thank you for the exciting news that the second season of Gargoyles is coming to DVD!

Now, I read you're doing a call for people with Gargoyles memorabilia. While not quite in the Los Angeles area, I am fairly close by (Fresno) and have a fairly extensive collection of the merchandise that was available. My collection includes at least one of all the Kenner toy line, two production art pieces, an animation cel, signed by the voice actors, the collection of VHS tapes, the Genesis game, the comics, most of the Applause merchandise (cups, figures, danglers, pencils), the collectable trading cards and a vast collection of miscellaneous merchandise (kite, face masks, boxers, promotional posters, a bus ad, board games, birthday candles, scripts, production art, on and on and on). There are probably a few fans I can think of that have a more extensive collection than I do but I'm one of the few with the biggest collection in the California area.

Also, if I could take a moment, I'd like to call your attention to something concerning the second season itself. I don't know how much material Disney has given you access to but the episode titled "Vows" originally had two different endings. Well, the first "ending" was actually a mistake that was not caught in time prior to airing and it was later corrected with what would be the second (and true) "ending." It would be really great if both endings could make their way to the DVD as they both feature distinctly different backgrounds and animation. Here's a link with a little bit more information on the endings
themselves: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/search.php?qid=2844. If you need more information on these different endings, I would be happy to supply it.

Once again, thanks, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Seth Jackson

----------------------------------------------
Seth,
Thanks for getting back to me and for the helpful information. We're in the very preliminary stages of outlining bonus feature possibilities at the moment, but I'm putting the "Vows" alternate ending on the list. Info like that is invaluable. I really appreciate it.

Your Gargoyles collection also seems pretty impressive. I've forwarded your info on to the lead producer of the project. If budget and schedule permits us to do some fan stuff, I'm sure either he or I will be contacting you.

Thanks again for the great info and if you can think of any other really inside Gargoyles stuff that you think would make a great bonus feature, please feel free to shoot me an e-mail.

-Chad

----------------------------------------------
Hey Chad,
No problem! Glad I could be of assistance. The fan in me says "put everything you can on those discs!" but let's see if I can help you come up with some more unique (and fairly inexpensive) potential extras.

The uncut script to Hunters Moon: The original script for Hunter's Moon was entirely too long and some scenes had to be removed. Some of the removed scenes include Elisa rummaging through the recently destroyed clock tower and finding a photo from when she donned Belle's outfit and went dancing with Goliath in Times Square (a reference to the episode "Eye of the Beholder").

Commercial Bumpers: aka "We'll be right back with Gargoyles" and "We now return to Gargoyles". Obviously these need not be included in the episodes themselves but I remember getting a kick out of seeing them as extras on the Transformers box sets.

Spin-off pitches: Before the huge management shift at Disney, there were several Gargoyles spin-offs being worked on. Three of the spin-offs have material available for them that are often presented at The Gathering of the Gargoyles conventions and are fan favorites. There is a New Olympians spin-off pitch presented by Greg Weisman, a Gargoyles: The Dark Ages spin-off pitch as presented by Greg Weisman, and there is a leica reel for the Bad Guys spin-off.

The music of Gargoyles: Carl Johnson created such a wonderfully epic score for the series, it would be great if that was some how available as a separate extra (since it's doubtful a soundtrack will ever be released).

The audio from "The Last": At one point in time there was a TV series based on Disney's Atlantis in the works. The project, Team Atlantis, had a hand full of completed episodes and even more episodes with their audio recordings completed. One of the later episodes was titled "The Last" and it featured a Gargoyle voiced by Marina Sitrtis who was the last of her kind. Although her name is never mentioned in the episode, this was Demona from Gargoyles. And even though the show was about Atlantis, there were several tie-ins to the Hunter's Moon episodes sprinkled throughout the episodes. As far as I know there is a script, some storyboard work, and studio recorded audio available for this episode... no animation had been completed.

Audio Commentary: Of course ANY fan is going to say they would like every episode to have audio commentary. However, knowing that availability of commentators and budget can and will be a concern for audio commentary, here is my list of episodes that I believe the fandom would most likely want audio commentary for.
The Mirror
Eye of the Beholder
Vows
City of Stone Parts I - IV
Avalon, Parts I - III
Future Tense
The Gathering, Part I & II
Vendettas
The Reckoning
Hunter's Moon, Parts I - III

Chapter Breaks: This was something lacking from the first season DVD. Please include navigation breaks for the episodes :) Even if they're just placed at the intro/previously on Gargyoles, commercials break, and next time on Gargoyles/credits. As much as I like the intro, sometimes you want to skip it and get right to the action (especially where the multi-part episodes are concerned).

Outside of ALL of that, the person you really want to get in touch with for feedback and ideas for the DVD would be Greg Weisman.

I hope these are helpful,
Seth

----------------------------------------------
Seth,
Thanks again for providing a concise and detailed list of potential bonus feature stuff. This is exactly the kind of info I've been looking for. I really can't thank you enough for taking the time to highlight some of these lesser known items of lost series material or series related material. This is a major help.

Greg> I am aware that a snowball has a better chance of surviving in the sahara in the summer then a fanfic special on the DVD. I wonder though, why you feel the need to question what was simply a declaration of what I wished to see. My simple desire to see the wonderful authors and artisans that grace the fandom recognized appears to have lead you down the wrong path. I feel the need to correct your misconception. And furthermore, I resent the implication that you have put forth that I did not think my way through the aformention question. It appears that role has been reversed. Now that I have said my peace, I'm going to leave it at that, and I aplogize if I have offened anyone with this matter.

PHOENYX> "Specials on the Fanfic"

RE season two> Audio Commentaries by various cast and crew naturally. Specials on art styles and mythos of the show would be good as well. Specials on the Fanfic and fanart, and other assorted things as well. Can't think of anything else right now. But when I do, I'll probably keep it to myself in an effort to feel smart.

Anyone who's posting suggestions here, I would e-mail Chad as well if you already haven't. Just in case he doesn't visit the boards again and/or the page refreshes next week and he assumes it got deleted instead of clicking on the week previous link.

I'd like pics of all official Gargoyles merchandise, if possible (I still wish I'd bought that puzzle I saw in a grocery store I used to work at years ago). I don't think we need a fan-feature on it though, I'd rather that disc space go toward something else.

Cast interviews are my biggest request. Principal cast members would be awesome (I'm sure Jonathan Frakes would be up for it, sci-fi nerd/producer that he is), guest stars would be equally great.

Commentary is my second most wanted feature. As much as possible. Usually commentary is best-suited to "important" eps and multi-parters, but I wouldn't mind some off-beat or "filler" eps getting some Greg-talk (plus any other cast and crew interested in doing it). Any episodes that're generally considered by most of the fandom as weaker portions of the series could be given some nice re-watch value if they get commentaries.

Production art. Another biggie. Sketches, full-color stuff...Some stuff that fills up my screen like the various painted works and stone-look art. It'd be nice to own all that, even if only in digital form.

Hmm...I'm sure I'll think of more suggestions...Not sure if Chad is a part of the decision-making/production of ALL the extras, he might just be involved in the fan-related stuff...But I'll e-mail this to him anyway. It's worth a try. So cool that we can all have some input.

Optimism! Season 2!!!

What I would like to see as extras:

1.) The voice track from the unfinished Team Atlantis episode with at least storyboards to go with it. Ideally, I'd like to see the episode completed.

2.) The Gargoyles Genesis Game converted/updated as a DVD-ROM game (maybe redone as a PC/Console-compatible game)

3.) More Commentaries for more episodes by more voice actors (I'd like to hear Marina Sirtis' and John Frakes comments, as well as Ed Asner, Rhys-Davies and the rest)

Finally, while it's not an extra, I think some proper ads should be done this time. I'm surprised no one commented on my "Place statues of the clan throughout Manhattan as a publicity campaign"

I won't hold my breath.

However, expanding on what TODD said, I would LOVE to have commentary on ANY episode that goes back in time; I.E. CoS, HM, VOWS, or the "Gargoyle" eps (MIA, Green, Etc.) and of course Avalon.

Cast interviews would be nice too. A little of what Jon, Marina, Bill, Ed or Sally think.

And Easter Eggs!!

That is all I will say.

The extra that I'd most like to have for the Season Two DVD would be more Audio Commentary by Greg Weisman (and maybe a few other people involved in the making of "Gargoyles") - for "City of Stone" as my first choice, or, if the DVD covers the entire season (rather than the first part of it) "Hunter's Moon", if it can't be both.

30h!5 Creative checks out as valid, so... woo! Sounds like Season 2 is up and running.

's a shame I'm not an L.A. resident or else I'd jump on the offer. In its place, though, I'll throw in my two cents on the idea's market viability:

I like the idea of a bonus feature on fans. The Gathering featurette and the broad concept of the fandom seemed to work on the last DVD, I think one more focused on the fans themselves could work.

Good luck in putting it together!

Hi everyone,
My name's Chad Kultgen. I'm involved with producing some components of the Gargoyles Season II DVD and I'm doing a little research for a potential bonus feature.

Nothing's set just yet, but we're thinking about doing some fan interviews and possibly some mini-documentary type pieces with fans potentially displaying some of their favorite Gargoyles memorabilia, etc.

As I said, this is all very tentative at the moment, but I'm just trying to get an idea of how viable the production of such a piece of bonus material would be.

We would be looking for someone who lives in the Los Angeles area. If you or someone you know is a huge Gargoyles fan in Los Angeles, please feel free to shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks,

Lord Garg Fan> The other day, there was a job fair at my school (CalArts). And whenever I see someone showing off a portfolio in one of my classes I end up having a look myself, just looking and listening. So the other day in life drawing class, this one guy brings in 3 portfolios, one of which shows his professional work. Some pages from an upcoming CGI movie's coloring book, and some images from Disney Consumer Products. And there's one that breaks my silence: Goliath on a motorcycle. I have to ask questions about it. Who commissioned it, what's it for, when it's coming out, etc. And it sounds like the Gargoyles on Choppers stuff is coming out soon. I'm on the shy side so I didn't press further. Gotta say I wouldn't be surprised if Hot Topic is one of the retailers for a number of reasons.

Can't say I've heard anything about season 2... but something interesting did cross my path today...

And maybe news of this has hit the web, but I've been offline with end-of-semester stuff. Disney Consumer Products commissioned sketches of the Gargoyles on motorcycles for t-shirts or something. Sounded like they were coming out soon, but it's not easy asking specific questions when you're peeking over a teacher-student portfolio review. Drawing or not, Goliath riding a motorcycle is odd but man, I want more Gargs tees.

Yesterday, at 7:30am in Omaha, Nebraska, my maternal grandfather James F. Edwards passed away in his sleep... almost just over a year to the day that his wife, my grandmother, died...

We're flying him home to lay him to rest with grandma... the funeral is to be this Saturday.

We knew this was coming, but damnit it doesn't make it any easier.

Wanted to let those that I still count as friends in the fandom to know...

Hi, i'm also a fan of this series. It's darker then Disneys usual stuff and about mythical beings, what's not to like? Too bad they don't air it over here anymore.

Well, I'm new here and I want to know also whether the sales of the season one DVD were good enough to warrant the release of season two on DVD. BTW, anyone know if it would be split into volumes since there are so many episodes from seasons two?

I've been away for a while and I'm completely out of the loop. Are we just hoping for season 2 to be released on DVD or have you guys heard something? *crosses fingers*
...and hello again, everyone. I hope you're all well. :)

Ninth!

Kris> I know *exactly* how you feel. Though, lucky me, I had the split shifts (lunch and dinner) and got a few hours rest in the afternoon :)

Kris: I feel ya. I worked 12 hours delivering cheesesteaks nonstop yesterday. Didn't even get to call my mother.

7th

I worked 13 hours today. Mother's Day at a restaurant/bartending is always insane. Money yay, but being on your feet for that long without sitting down, ow.

What were you in Hawai'i for Battle Beast? Just general vacation, wedding, business...?

***Battle Beast slowly walks into the comment room tanned, tired and jet lagged after his week of fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun of be-utiful Maui. He looks around at the last week's writings and notes that it was a slow week. He then scratches

SIX

lines on the wall to symbolize his place in the queue for the current week. Half dead, he now prepares to leave to go to sleep.***

"That is all," He will say.
