Algernon> Yes, I am well aware of the contradiction of my favor toward Demona. It really has to do with just my own world view. They each are fighting for valid reasons. Demona is loyal to her race, and is battling for what she believes is their own salvation. She has valid reason for wanting the extinction of humans for the mistreatment she and her race suffered over the course of a thousand years.

Then again the Canmores are fighting for the truth the way they perceive it. Avenging the death of their father against what they believe is a demon.

I don't believe in Demona's cause but understand her motivation and methods. To truly defeat an enemy, or what she believes is an enemy, you must slaughter everyone capable of raising a sword against you. Cut off their head, put it on a spear, and feed the rest of them to the wolves. You have to meet a barbarian with the same savagery they possess.

Some of my hero's(if anyone bothered to check out my myspace) are men like Genghis Khan, Ragnar Lodbrok, and Harald Hardrada. Barbarians all. For instance Genghis' destroyed a rival tribe called the Naiman down to "anyone taller than the axel of a wagon" But the Naiman had kidnapped his wife, Borte, who was probably raped repeatedly before being rescued.

They were not necessarily right or even good. But in their, and Demonas world, steel and fire are what make the future. I wouldn't be fighting with Demona, or even sit back and allow her to destroy my own race. Just as a character, she is the most sympathetic to me.

Barbarism is the natural state of humanity, civilization is unnatural. Its nothing more than a whim of circumstance. And Barbarism must always triumph"

During WWII, the Japanese experimented with various biological agents by dispersing them into the air over Chinese villages. Sevarius is not the first mad doctor to come up with such a plan.

As for the inhalded mutagenic formula, I don't see the issue. inhaling something brings it into the lungs, which brings it into the bloodstream. So whether there is a direct injection into the bloodstream or an indirect injection (via the lungs), it gets into the bloodstream, and therefore to the rest of the body.
If you can suspend your disbelief to accept mutagenic formulas, it is really only a small step to accepting that they can be introduced to a lifeform via injection or inhalation equally well, I would think.

As to the wisdom of mutating everyone in Times Square that night, I can't say. Naturally, it doesn't seem like a good idea, but neither does performing test detonations of atomic bombs and scientists have done that many times to learn and improve on their subjects of study. By mutating hundreds of people, Sevarius would gain a wealth of information... and have fun in the process.

Please forgive the double post, but I forgot to mention MY WHOLE PREVIOUS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS
Grey Wolf

Purplegoldfish> If the people inhaled the mutagen through their noses, there's a lot of mucus membranes for it to attach to. Think lungs; they absorb oxygen into the blood stream, why not a virus?

And about Yama, I think Tasha's suicide and Fang's reaction to it hit him hard because of his own situation. A dishonored samurai could redeem himself by takeing his own life. Granted, a dead gargoyle can't return to his clan, but it would end his humiliation and shame. Then there's modern society's veiw: suicide is seen as weak and selfish. If Yama was born in fuedal Japan, I think he'd have killed himself; but because he was born in the 20th century, I think he feels conflicted.

Grey Wolf

DEMONSKRYE - You're welcome. I'm glad you liked it.

(I wonder what Arthur would make of Tintagel; I've visited it twice, and there's a substantial Arthurian tourist industry in the local town. I've even read - though I didn't see them on either visit - that they sell a particular kind of burger there called Excaliburgers. Arthur might well appreciate Goliath's response to Taro's gargoyle theme park - assuming that he's learned about it, which he probably hasn't.)

Todd Jensen

TODD> It's going to be very interesting if and when we do eventually learn where Arthur and Griff have already searched for Merlin. "Obvious places" to Griff would likely mean places mentioned in any stories about Merlin that he knows, which could be anything. "Obvious places" for Arthur would be any places he knows Merlin was associated with. Events that happened before he was born or legends that sprung up after his "death" that don't reflect what actually happened are not things Arthur would know, which is probably why he's checking the library at Knight's Spur.

And by the way, thanks for fixing up the account of the Tintagel legend. I figured you would have much better knowledge of it than what I could scrounge up from Wikipedia.

DemonskryeW - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

I'd wondered about how advisable it would be to release a mutagen in a public place, because of the problems in covering it up afterwards. I hadn't thought about the possible difficulties with it being breathed rather than injected, though; I'm not enough of a biology expert for that to occur to me.

I didn't know that wood-lice were crustaceans. I'm familiar wtih them, though; I saw a lot of them when I was a boy, and enjoyed touching them and seeing them roll up in balls.

DEMONSKRYE - I'd noticed Greg's comments on the Tintagel entry too. (I still enjoy his stopping by to help with the GargWiki.) In Malory, Merlin is imprisoned by Nimue in a cave somewhere in Cornwall, but there's nothing to suggest whether it was near Tintagel or not. In the French versions of Merlin's story, he's imprisoned in an invisible tower in the forest of Broceliande in Brittany; I wonder if that was one of the obvious places that Arthur and Griff searched. I also wonder if they searched Stonehenge yet (Greg mentioned that they'd go there, and since Merlin's connected with it in legend, that might count as an obvious place).

I think we can safely assume that they hadn't visited the South Pole by the time of the Stone of Destiny adventure.

SPOILERS

Chip- thanks for clearing that up about Yama. I know zilch about Japanese culture.
But I still think Sev's plan is increcredibly ridiculous. Like you said, there would be chaos, so how could he possibly get a good idea of the results? It would have been a better idea at least to release the toxin in the labyrinth.
And I still can't see breathing in a toxin can change your physical form. The formula had to be injected into a person's bloodstream.

and yeah, a woodlouse is a crustacean lol.

Purplegoldfish

PGF> Suicide is a very serious subject in Japanese culture. It is an honorable thing to do in this situation, and Fang making light of it and disrespecting the dead is what really set Yama off...I think that the Times Square plot...was really more for fun than anything else. But Sevarius would be able to see from the general population (and chaos) how well the mutagen worked, and what "armored" parts cropped up.

Could give him insight on that mutate army. Also, I have to say it: Benny is a crustacean, not an insect.

The CV-1997 is a combination of Sevarius's carrier virus from "Hunter's Moon" and his already well working mutagen. I had no problem suspending my disbelief for that. I actually am MORE interested in Sevarius now after BG#4...my biggest question "How did he become such a ham?"

Justin> It seem a bit contradictory to me that you judge Robyn so harshly yet you speak favourably of Demona, a character whose as committed atrocities that if they had happened in real life would probably earn her a spot on the "Top Ten Worst Mass Murderers in History".
Algernon

Spoilers: Maybe Sevarius was paid to overact that way, he does love money and it keeps people from guessing who the bankroll is. Mutating so many people might be part of the Illumintai's plan for the Gargoyles or maybe it's Thailog's solution to the Quarrymen.

<Spoilers>, yada yada yada.
Anyway as for my own impressions of Bad Guys it is a decent story. It did suit my generally wry sense of humor. Like on the page showing each of the team in their respective hotel rooms, it has Matrix lying in a pool on the bed. Or Benny cheerfully saying "Im a rolly polly bug!"
I've never been good on reviews, but my the story did have some things I find personally "distasteful"
1. Robyn Canmore: I find her "change of heart" a little insulting. All of a sudden wanting to make up for her own sins against gargoyles is a bit "too little too late". But then again I'm not really one to forgive.
2.Yama: The whole samurai seeking to regain his honor has been worn thin in the media. Plus anyone who likes the concept of Japanese "honor" should look into the system of "comfort women" in WW2.
3. I cant stand Sevarius. I just personally hate pedantic or manipulating character. He reminds me of a character in the Conan Mythos called Nebonidus, evil wizard. While jeering Conan about how he has caught him in his master plan, Conan just throws a foot stool at his head, killing him.
I'm one for the open handed savagery of Conan or Demona, they kill or steal openly.
Well Diogenies with his lamp.

Other wise I think it is a very good series.

Justin
Gods, monsters, and men...will die together in the end.

Finally got my copy of Bad Guys # 4. The series so far has really begun to captivate me (finally) since the third book. Some really strong emotional and creepy stuff in this latest book, but I have one major gripe with the story which I will get to in a minute.

*********Spoilers for Bad Guys #4***********

I'm really loving the different interactions between the characters in the squad. They work together yet they all get on each other's nerves. Nice change from the gargs who get along so well with each other (most of the time.) I like Hunter's growing friendship with Yama (Kind of like a brother/sister relationship), and to a lesser extent her and Dingo. I can definitely see some sparks there.

Yama is starting to intrigue me-before this issue I was indifferent to him but now I think he's way cool; how he reacted to Fang's joke about that poor woman. Makes me wonder if he's encountered a suicide before. Speaking of suicides...Tasha's suicide is probably one of the most shocking things in Gargoyles to date. I know this is horrible, but when I saw that page I thought to myself she could have at least waited to kill herself at the labyrinth instead of in front of those poor kids-they're traumatized enough as it is! (Also, is it wrong that I want to hear the rest of Fang's joke? ;P)

Sevarius is at his best(worst) here. Wow he's one EVIL SOB! Turning children into insects, now that's just wrong! (Though there were times when I would have loved to turn my little brother into one of those roly-poly bugs and roll him down the stairs ;)) I love Sevarius' expressions- I can just hear Tim Curry's voice in my head-and the art is just wonderful. Karine is doing a fantastic job! Her artwork resembles the show's more than anyone else who worked on the book IMO.

Now to the one major bad point...Sevarius' plan. First of all, I can suspend my belief to accept someone can be injected with a mutagenic formula and be transformed...not so much here; an airborne virus that can alter people's physical form so drastically? I don't think so. I'm not a science buff but this doesn't make any sense to me how breathing in a virus could possibly alter someone's DNA like that.

Secondly, What the Hell is Sevarius thinking? How does turning a large group of random people into giant zoo animals going to help him? Doesn't he need a laboratory setting to observe the mutation process? I know he likes the drama, but he's supposed to be SMART.

Thirdly, It made sense that Sevarius used homeless people for his experiments since probably no one would miss them. When he turned Derek into a mutate he and Xanatos concoted an elaborate plan to keep the authorities in the dark. But in the Times Square crowd, you have eilte people with family members and friends, police officers, ect... With So many witnesses, eventually Sev would be found and fried. I dunno, I can't see any reason for Sevarius to do this other than for the drama...which I think is WAY over the top, even for him.

Other than that, the books have been a really exciting read and it's unfortunate I'll have to wait so long for the conclusion. Same with "Gargoyles".

Purplegoldfish

Of the six clans that we have seen, whether on TV or comic, the only one we don't know that much about is the Ishimura clan. We know more about the other five clans like numbers, whether or not they have beasts, and eggs in the rookery (although it has been said that the Mayan clan has 20-40 eggs). I hope we can learn more about the Ishimura clan with the rest of the series coming out in trade paper back (hopefully it doesn't take to long).

Well, speaking of Bronx (as we sort of are), Greg has clarified over at GargWiki that the early "Dumbo-ears" Bronx design would not have had gliding capabilities. Rather, he could flap his ears at a very fast rate, like a hummingbird, allowing him to hover a few inches off the ground. It seems almost less useful than not being able to fly at all and certainly could have contributed to his "angst-ridden" outlook on life.

Greg has also stated that Arthur's statement that he and Griff have searched for Merlin in "all the obvious places" does not necessarily include or exclude Tintagel. The presence of a "Merlin's Cave" at the base of the cliffs Tintagel sits on would suggest that it could be among the obvious places, but if Merlin's association with that cave ended before Arthur was born or was simply an invention of later folklore attempting to create additional ties between the area and Arthurian legend, Arthur may not have been aware of it, and there's no guarantee that Griff would have known about it either.

@ Antiyonder: I have this theory about when the aardvark will come into play...
Grey Wolf

Tribeca seems more likely (to me) to be the name of a gargoyle beast living in the modern world than on Avalon, since her name's another Manhattan one. (That's why the production team decided on "Boudicca" for the character instead; it seemed far more likely that Princess Katharine and the Magus would name her after an ancient British queen who had predated their flight to Avalon than after a public transportation system in a city that hadn't been built yet when they fled Scotland.)
Todd Jensen

Adam & Matt> Only after he fits the anthropomorphic aardvark somewhere.

Justin its funny you mention video for gatherng.... as I had an idea. would anyone be interested in putting a video together of the gathering and what goes on at each pannel etc... maybe sell them at the gatherng for money that goes back to the gatherng? I think it would be a fun project.

I was reading on GargWiki that Boudicca's original name was going to be Tribeca. Given the fact that Greg reused the names Coco and Amp (although they are nicknames) from the original concept for gargoyles, I think that if the series continues (I hope), Greg will end up using Tribeca as the name for the other female beast on Avalon. What do you guys think?

Well I can say I am sorely disappointed in the recent turn of events with the comics. I was hoping to finally see the radio play, but understand the evil bargin with Greg. Speaking of film, ever sense the Gathering I have been wanting to post all the videos I shot there for everyone. I have the Opening Ceremonies, Greg and Keiths Mug a Guest, Garg Biology, the auction, Banquet, Blue Mug, Jen's ass tattoo, Closing Ceremonies, and the Tengu thing, all on tape. Anyway, when they were burned to disk the audio and video is out of sinc. YOu hear the words several second before the people speak.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any way or program that could fix this?
I promised certain people, in exchange for their souls, I would post everything on youtube. And just want to get it done.

Finally, at the Gathering, I spoke to Jen about getting some of the fottage those documentary people were always shooting. I just wanted to get the segment of the masqurade, including my brilliant preformance! Who could I talk to about that?

We all know it was 938, so I dunno who takes care of this but I was just hoping to bring it to one's attention.

I think that Greg shut down the question queue because there won't be new material for a while (not until the trade paperbacks come out, which is most likely months away).

Thanks for the information about the concept art.

*****BAD GUYS #4 SPOILERS******

Mutated Margot> Do I think Margot would feel differently towards the gargoyles if she had been mutated? Not really. Look at how Maggie, a human with no prior knowledge of the gargoyles, reacted to them after she was mutated. Once she figured out that Brooklyn and his clan weren't transformed humans like she was, she pretty much wanted nothing to do with them. Of course, she was in a very awkward position with Brooklyn wanting a relationship with her that she wasn't prepared to provide. And she did eventually become much more accepting of gargoyles. But I think it shows pretty well that being turned into a mutate doesn't automatically cause a person to see gargoyles in a friendlier light. Even if Margot did end up experiencing some of the same hatred and prejudice that gargoyles do,she would still view herself as more of a deformed human while the gargoyles are still a potentially dangerous unknown species.

Speaking of mutates, I'd like to point out for anyone who doesn't visit their regularly that "Bad Guys" artist Karine Charlebois has been kind enough to let GargWiki use her character designs for Benny, Erin, Tasha, and Thug and their respective pages. Since all four characters spend the entire issue behind bars which partially obscure them, it's great to have nice clear pictures of their mutated forms. Thanks a million, Karine!

Gathering 2008 Radio Play - Our understanding with Greg was that we would not post any recordings until Issue 9 of the comic came out. The recent developments with the comic license and the end of single issues means that won't be until AFTER the next trade paperback is published.

And the same for the exact date for the gathering (I think I read that the date is still pending; if I'm wrong please let me know). But I might as well ask, is the play from The Gathering going to be uploaded on YouTube after Clan Building Volume 2 comes out?

Antiyonder - [antiyonder at yahoo dot com]

Wasn't there suppose to be new footage on the DVD? All I see is the transition between episodes.
Antiyonder - [antiyonder at yahoo dot com]

I got the DVD. The 'movie' edit works better than I expected and the end credits are awesome. It's a nice package for $15, but there's still the underlying issue that Sony is pulling the usual animation distributor crap where they charge you once for the cheapo skimpy DVD then again for the box set. I like the show well enough that I'll buy it twice (especially if there's a Blu-ray version). But everyone will have to decide for themselves.

By the looks of this first DVD, if you only buy the 'movie' versions, you'll have a decent interpretation of season 1. But who knows what'll be in the box set or when it'll come out.

TODD: Edmund Tsabard wears an eye-patch. Greg Weisman doesn't.

They hate each other so much, you can't have them in the same room together. Like the Capulets and the Montagues. It's that intense of a hatred.

Greg Weisman is not Edmund Tsabard. Edmund Tsabard is not Greg Weisman.

Forgive me if this question seems obvious (I'm not that acquainted with the fandom side of "Gargoyles" fandom), but is Edmund Tsabard an alter ego for Greg Weisman?

"Tsabard" is an anagram for "bastard", and Greg's favorite "Gargoyles" character is Edmund in "King Lear", who's illegitimate. And Greg's latest ramble stated that he wasn't in the same room with Edmund Tsabard at the convention he was recently at.

I hope this question doesn't seem too "Duh, it's obvious".

*** SPOILERS FOR BAD GUYS #4 ***

Wow. Bad Guys #4 was really good. I usually manage to steer clear of spoilers but I got a good gist of this. Was still exciting and moving though. Gripping script. Splendid art. A lot's already been said but I haven't read much of it so I may leave a more in-depth review later. Got to say though, in all the time the series was in hiatus, it never occurred to me the carrier virus from 'Hunter's Moon' would be a thing that would return. Makes me wonder if we'll find out more on Tasha. It's not like 'Gargoyles' to have redshirts. Also, I thought the woodlouse mutation was incredibly creepy. I thought 'Metamorphosis' was one of the most horrifying episodes, but this takes things even further.

Seems this is the last comic, and it's a great final note. And I've got to say, I'm not missing them -- yet. I'm too excited to get a double-bill of 'Bad Guys' and four issues of 'Gargoyles'. (I will say though that *as a comic* I think 'Bad Guys' is much more successful for its form. I love 'Gargoyles' but I think it works so much better in trade. So much is going on that each issue risks feeling like an illustrated run of really informative 'Ask Greg' posts until you step back and see the dots join up. 'Bad Guys' is less broad in focus but it means we get under the skin of each of the squad in turn and get more of a feel of a complete instalment each issue. 'Gargoyles' gives me more to think about in the long run, but I think I get more of a buzz out of 'Bad Guys' -- certainly the last three issues).

Everyone is saying the series is great but Sony is screwing customers by releasing 3-episode DVDs rather than a box set. I'd like to post a review correcting them that it's actually the first 3 episodes re-edited into a 'film' with added content, but I wouldn't believe it myself. Sony really is screwing customers except they get away with it because the intended audience is kids. Animation distributors do it all the time (just look at the Disney sequels). I hope that Sony interprets the lost sales as bad policy, but they won't. That's just the way it goes in our favorite culturally-retarded artform.

Man... 3 weeks without the internet... It's been a while since I've been here... Time to find my Gargoyles items to see if they're okay... Damn movers nearly crushed half my stuff... (>T.T)>

BROOK - That creativity demon of mine that Antiyonder quoted was just an idea of mine, not something that was ever planned or even considered by the production team. (I'm still amazed that the production team considered the ending that you mentioned, though - the gargoyles just giving up and running away? I suspect that Greg wasn't the only one unhappy about it; there must have been a few execs who were worried about the message that that proposed ending would be sending.)

ANTIYONDER - I'd almost forgotten that one; thanks for your comments on it.

Todd Jensen

Actually, it was planned that Goliath and Elisa would move to Cicago. Lex and Brooklyn would start a world tour off their own. What would happe to the rest is unknown, but I bet B&A would hit Avalon.

Luckily, Greg talked them out of it. :D

brook

I've been looking at some of the older comments, just to see what discussions were had before the comic was announced, and I found something which got my notice (Thought I'd post it for any others who weren't longtime commentors):

Todd Jensen> Be warned, this is a very dark creativity demon.

AN ALTERNATE ENDING TO "ANGELS IN THE NIGHT".

Immediately after the sun rises and the gargoyles turn to stone, the crowd of passengers stops cheering, and Margot signals to the policemen who've apprehended Castaway and his followers. The police promptly release the Quarrymen and give them back their hammers. A few of the police seize Elisa and handcuff her to keep her from interfering, while the Quarrymen advance upon the stone gargoyles and smash them all, to the applause of the crowd. Margot turns to Castaway and comments on how the plot worked - "We duped those gargoyles into thinking that we accepted them, so they'd perch out here in public in the daytime like sitting ducks. Who'd have thought that those monsters were so gullible?"

Yes, a creativity demon that I certainly wouldn't want fulfilled - it'd make a very depressing way of ending the series, on a decidedly permanent note - but it popped into my head and I had to set it down.

That was evil, demented, mean spirited and just hilarious. I broke into laughter after visualizing that scene happening:).

Antiyonder

More Electric Tiki> Another reveal that came with the Darkwing sculpt is that the terror that flaps in the night is going to be limited to an edition of around 500, which may be the case with future statues. So if you want them, you may want to get them as soon as you can once they become available.

Darkwing is about 8" tall and the Rescue Rangers are expected to stand a total of 9" tall. So I'm guessing the size for the Teeny Weeny Mini Maquettes tends fo be under a foot in height. (My feeling is that Jessica would be on the taller end of that or Roger will have to be really small to be in correct scale with her.

Both Jessicas and Roger are tentatively scheduled to come out in 2009 and 2010, meaning we could potentially be waiting a year or two for some of these statues, possible including Goliath. If that's the case, it's just more time to save them money.

Wingless> Thanks for the help. I'll try that.

ELECTRICK TIKI> I've bookmarked the page so I know when the statues come out. Be damned if I'm gonna miss a Chip and Dale Statue!!! (And Gargoyles too...)

Electric Tiki> Well, we know numbers 1 (Darkwing), 3 (Chip 'n' Dale trio), and 5, 10, and 11 (Roger and Jessica Rabbit series). So that's five out 12-15 total statues at some stage. There's still a pretty good chance one of the 7-10 will be at least one Gargoyles figure. If there is, it's pretty definite to be Goliath. If they did another, I'd be willing to bet it'd be Demona.
Asatira

Addendum> If you click on the Darkwing Duck in the Teeny Weeny Mini Maquettes page, there's now a full painted sculpture. Looks really nice, even better than the concept art. Darkwing will set you back about $100, so I'd expect Goliath will probably coast about that much, if not more.
Demonskrye - [demonskrye(at)gmail(dot)com]

Vin> Stature makers Electric Tiki recently announced a licensing deal with Disney to produce statues of various sizes based on various Disney characters. What exactly the license covers is not completely clear yet. So far, we have artwork for a Darkwing Duck, a Rescue Rangers statue of Chip, Dale, and Gadget, and a couple of statues of Jessica and Roger Rabbit based on he short cartoons in the "Teeny Weeny Mini Maquettes" category and a placeholder Rocketeer logo in the "Classic Heroes" category. If you look at the promo image Electric Tiki has for their Disney deal (click my name), Goliath can be seen in the bottom left corner. Also, several of the images appear to be Electric Tiki's concept artwork for upcoming statues, increasing the likelihood that a Goliath statue is planned. Electric Tiki has said they plan to do 12 - 15 products over the course of "phase one" and it's worth noting that the promo image is a 4x4 grid with some images taking up two square, making for a total of somewhere between 12 and 15 images. Some commenters here noticed that there are two pictures of Jessica and one of Roger, which corresponds to the three statues based on the Roger Rabbit short cartoons that Electric Tiki has planned. So no official word just yet, but it seems highly likely that Electric Tiki is planning to make a Goliath statue. And since this is "Phase One," if the Disney product in general and the Goliath statue in particular sell well, we could see more of the cast getting the same treatment.

I'm so happy right now, I just found out John Rhys - Davies (Macbeth) and Michael Dorn (Coldstone) are going to be here in the UK at Collectormania 14 signing autographs. I'm crossing my fingers that Marina sirtis, Jonathan frakes and Brent Spiner are going to be there too, as they have been to past Collectormania events.
I'm glad it's only 20 mins from my house so I can get a bus there.

Battle Beast - Have you ever tried the online universal translators? They're not perfect, but it's better than nothing. Just select the language you want to translate from and to, insert the text and click the button. It will even do entire web pages. My name is linked to the google version(it does have Polish)
Hope that helps.

I need some help. I am doing my family tree and, long story short, I found some photographs from Poland with Polish writing on them I need a translator, someone who can read the word in Polish and translate them. It`s impossible to find one. Does anyone know somebody or where I could turn to get the photos translated?

Thanks. Any suggestions are welcome!
