Today is Robert Burns' birthday. I wonder if the gargoyles ever discovered him after their awakening in the modern world (a countryman, after all, if of a different species - though, of course, the clan's become a bit more multicultural since Brooklyn's return from his Timedancing).

Gargoyle religion seems to revolve around not defining or limiting the Ineffable with any kind of set in stone doctrine or codified worship. Which is kinda the complete opposite of almost every human religion ever. Or as Hudson onec put it...

"Must you humans name Everything? Nothing's real to you 'til you've named It, given It limits!"

Algernon
"See, the idea is that God is too big to be defined by words. Sort of like Zeno's Paradox. There's an infinite number of dots between you and the object. The closer you get to defining God, the further away it gets." ~Dr. Stephen Franklin

Greg once stated (at a convention, not at "Ask Greg" - and I learned this from someone who was there rather than hearing it directly, so it's second-hand information) that gargoyles don't have creation myths because they don't think that way; to them, what matters is that something exists, not how it got there.

So this talk on religion has got me thinking on the Gargoyles' belief system. According to the wiki they believe in some higher power that all things are apart of but do not have a creation myth. This may make them one of the few if not the only culture that doesn't have a demiurge of some kind. Almost paradoxical if you think about it.

Apparently "Bluestone" is a common Jewish name. I've never heard it outside Gargoyles- maybe it's a New York thing?

It's come up a few times on Ask Greg. For example:

I didn't know that Matt Bluestone was Jewish. Is that canon in training?

I knew that most of the characters introduced in "Golem" were Jewish, but I didn't know that anyone else was.

I'm just glad someone claimed tenth...

Soooo... topic? Uh, are Matt Bluestone and Max Loew related? They look similar and are both Jewish. This is the Gargoyles Universe afterall. Discuss.

So I shall simply say eighth.

To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."
