Sounds like you have the same thing as Taina. We were just practicing with medium-quality audio, which is what I'm gonna send you. I'm not sure if we have the high-quality audio? Taina?

I just need to finish encoding something and then I'll send the audio to you. Give me about 20 minutes.

Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

To be clear: I do have everything in high quality and uncut. All episodes are in the same format and look exactly the same. BUT they're all in german with a small logo in the top right corner. Apart from that they're good enough to make a quality looking DVD. (I think)

The problem is: I don't have the english soundtrack to replace the german with. But if someone (maybe Arlo?) sends me a good quality english soundtrack of any episode, I could piece together a small 5 minute sample with the high quality german video + the english audio. And if you like what you see, we can discuss further steps.

Finally added my e-mail ;)
If 20MB is too big, upload it to a filehosting service and pass me the link.

Neill - [neillgargoyle@gmail.com]

Neill> I can probably send you the soundtrack for "The Journey," which is the episode we were trying this out on. It's about 20 MB, might be small enough to be sent through Gmail. You have a Gmail account?
Arlo

Neill: I need the uncut episodes in English with decent sound quality. Do you have them?

"The story is told -- though who can say if it be true..." -Shari

Arlo> I have the complete season 2 in good quality on my HDD, every episode is in the same format. I am decent in video editing, I could try to assist you. Unfortunately I don't have the english soundtrack to try it out in the first place.
Neill

You might be right. I guess there wouldn't be as much room on the DVD discs for extras, anyway.

Well, hope isn't lost. If Taina and I can't figure this out and Disney still won't release the eps, I'll probably convert my old VHS tapes to DVD eventually. Although I know she really wants to release high-quality episodes.

Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

I believe there's 26 episodes left, and that it would likely mean 2 discs with 9 episodes, and one disc with 8 episodes.
Antiyonder

The disc would have, I think, 25 episodes. And of course, they wouldn't be just on one disc. It would probably take about three, like with S2V1.
Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

To be honest, having a disc full of 8-9 episodes is just as satisfying as having special features.

Now if the DVD in question is a mere 3-4 episodes, then yeah I'd expect some special features.

Antiyonder

As Greg Weisman has said, "that ship has sailed." There's no indication that Disney is going to be releasing the Season 2 Volume 2 in the near future, and it's extremely unlikely that they would.

D. Taina and I have been trying to put out that volume by ourselves, but we've run into some snags. It seems no one has high-quality episodes of the English episodes, so we have to try to dub the English soundtrack to the high-quality German video she has. It's been harder than we expected, because the video machines people used all record at different speeds, which causes the audio and video to go out of sync. Even shrinking the audio down to the correct length doesn't work, because the out-of-syncness isn't uniform across the tape. So it causes some scenes to work, and others not to. It's all been a bit of a headache.

The other option is that some people have been hoping Disney will release certain episodes on demand, where people can just order the specific episodes they want on DVD, without any of the bonus features and all that. Better than nothing.

Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

Ehi guys, I forgot to ask you this: waht about the sales of the DVDs?
Are they increased? I rally hope it for you. And maybe after Disney will release Gargoyles 2 season volume 2 in north-america, we other fans from the other countries will try to convince Disney to release the DVDs, and the comic books in other countries.

I very hope it, Gargoyles is my favourite TV series.

I'm sorry, Greg B. I just realized you left some feedback on the "Fiends In High Places" page I worked on last night, but I'm still figuring the system out and I'm not quite sure how to write back on that.

I felt the absence of Demona's becoming upset when she realizes Elisa is still alive was noticeable. It's something I've seen other fans ask about besides myself on here today, and it's noticeable enough that fans sometimes get confused as to when she realized it, and think it was in "The Mirror" because they forget about the scene in "Reawakening." My opinion is that it's conspicuous, but if you want to change the page to just say "absent," I'll leave that up to you.

Supermorff: So far, Count Vladimir Ordog is going for something of a "man of wealth and taste" vibe on Formspring. He has a definite and sordid history with Old Pog (as well as "the surviving Van Helsings, Blade AND that insipid blonde from California"), and has a fair distaste for gargoyles in general as a result, to the point that he has placed many of his resources at Castaway's disposal - obviously, without revealing who he actually is.

He's also got some sort of history with Demona, as they met last some two or three centuries ago; their opinions on humankind are fairly similar, although Vlad is rather annoyed about her "crusade" because it would eliminate his supply of "livestock." Still, they are now in a tentative agreement in which each believes they are using the other: an exhange of Goliath's death for Pog's.

Since that bargain was struck about four weeks ago, Vlad's been lying fairly low on Formspring, though he never misses an opportunity to try and seduce one of the site's ample supply of pretty young women into meeting with him. He's now sitting back and regarding the various omens of disaster that appear to be heralding
Morgana Le Faye's ritual to release Queen Mab
with...interest.

ARLO> I'd assume it happened during "Reawakening." Granted, it was a muted reaction, and things were happening all around them. But, I'm sure there was some off screen fuming that we didn't see.

But yeah, I'll peg "Reawakening" as when it took place, and we got to see her reaction to Elisa at the beginning of "The Mirror."

Supermoff> Oh, my friend definitely wouldn't have read Vampire Chronicles. He was into less mature material. I think he got it from DragonBall Z, or something like that. But maybe they stole it from Vampire Chronicles.

Wow, I've gotta read the SLG comics that I missed. My boss has a client named Jean ValJean. I never heard of that name in the series. I've missed so much!

On another note, does anyone know why Weisman never included a scene of Demona first discovering Elisa is still alive after "Long Way To Morning?" They just sort of skipped over that, and after seeing that scene in the Marvel comics, I have to say, it is noticeably absent from the canon material.

Sorry. SOMEBODY suggested before about Jean Valjean, not me. I forget who it was.
Supermorff

Arlo> Sounds like your friend is thinking of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, in which vampires were created through an exorcism-gone-wrong in ancient Egypt.

There's a lot of great stuff that could be done with vampires in Gargoyles. Thematically, they could be a perfect fit for the series. (I don't follow Formspring - how's the Dracula character integrating so far?)

Jean Valjean> Yeah, suggested before that Jean Valjean might be Monsieur Le Maire. Definitely a good theory.

I wasn't aware about the trolls turning to stone in sunlight. That is interesting. I wonder if Weisman is aware. I just read recently where he said legends did exist of gargoyles protecting the castle, but he made up the part about them turning to stone during the day on his own.

I've always wondered about vampires too. They've gotta have a special role in the Gargverse. It would probably make for a damned interesting episode or comic, if Weisman ever got to work on it. I remember a friend of mine in high school told me another show he liked had the story where vampires were created when an exorcism went wrong. It would be interesting to see what gargoyle spin Weisman could put on that, like he did with Macbeth's story.

K70P> Well...a lot of the older stories about trolls often involve them turning to stone in direct sunlight...so I'd wager that trolls have a very distinct basis in the Gargoyles Universe.

Alright, while perusing the AskGreg archives (as I am wont to do fairly often, LOL), I came to a rather mind-blowing epiphany that I simply couldn't wait to share with y'all. I apologize if someone's already theorized this (Heaven knows how many people independently came to the conclusion that Shari was Scheherazade before I did), but...

I think that the Director is Jean Valjean.

To support this conjecture, I offer the following points:

1) His operations are based in Paris.

2) He was the driving force behind the formation of the Redemption Squad; Valjean is pretty much the quintessential symbol of the search for redemption in the Western Canon.

3) Greg W. has outright confirmed that Valjean exists in the Gargoyles Universe, and that he has "a pretty clear handle on how [he'd] interpret the character," one of the very few literary characters of the post-Shakespeare periods to receive that honor (Dracula being another). This, to me, hints that he needed to figure out his "version" of Valjean relatively quickly in anticipation of future plans.

4) Obviously, Valjean isn't exactly a stranger to disguises or aliases.

5) Greg W. has confirmed the Director's "day-job" to be that of a civil servant; Valjean spends a good portion of the first part of Les Miserables as humble and benevolent major "Monsieur Madeleine."

...Of course, now that I think on it, that last clue points a lot more heavily to the Director's even more mysterious boss "Monsieur Le Maire" being Hugo's infamous former prisoner #24601. After all, his appellation translates directly to "the Mayor."

Regardless, however, I've become entirely convinced that Jean Valjean has something significant to do with this shadowy organization opposed to the Illuminati. Whichever Frenchman he is, though, this would make him rather long-lived (as well as
make the very ending of Hugo's novel somewhat...inaccurate
), but as I've theorized before that one or both of them are very likely to be former Illuminati themselves and thus have had access to their, ahem, "dental plan," that may not necessarily be an issue.

So...whadaya all think? :D

Interesting similarities. Maybe the Gargoyles Universe's Tom
*is* Thomas Mallory, or ends up becoming him. In the Garg Universe, anything's possible.

Greg B> That wasn't how I viewed it, but that sounds like something Weisman would say. So you're probably right.

On another note, how does one make contributions to the Garg Wiki? I noticed there's hardly any information on the Marvel comics from 94/95 and I want to fill in some basic plot info.

Arlo
Gargoyles need not apply.

Speaking of Tom, I've suspected that there might have been some influence from T. H. White (and the musical "Camelot") in his role, especially in "Avalon Part One".

At the end of "The Once and Future King", on the eve of the final battle with Mordred, King Arthur is brooding in his tent over what went wrong and why Camelot fell. When his young page Tom comes in to deliver a message for him, Arthur asks him to stay a while, and gives a brief account to the boy of what he had set out to do, what the purpose of the Round Table had been. He then asks Tom to, once he's delivered that message, ride for home instead of taking part in the battle, and keep the memory of Camelot's ideals alive, so that other people can be inspired by them to continue after Arthur's passing. To top it off, he knights Tom; White describes him (Tom) as wearing a surcoat with the family coat of arms "looking absurdly new". (Tom doesn't let Arthur down; he grows up to become Sir Thomas Malory, author of "Le Morte d'Arthur".) The musical "Camelot" ends with a similar scene.

Now note some similarities to Tom's role, especially in "Avalon Part One" - a young boy charged with a great task, even dubbed as a knight (or Guardian of the Eggs, in Tom's case), both named Tom - and note, also, in reference to Tom's surcoat in T. H. White above that the Tom of "Gargoyles" is given a heraldic uniform after being appointed Guardian by Princess Katharine. And, of course, King Arthur is brought into the story in connection with Tom (not to mention that Officer Morgan describes the adult Tom's armor as reminiscent of that in the tales of King Arthur).

Todd Jensen - [merlyn1@mindspring.com]

PATRICK> Exactly. Greg talked about this at the 2006 Gathering, if I remember correctly (and this was five years ago now), he said that as Tom got older, he pursued Katharine. While the Magus kind of hoped it would "just happen" and then it was too late.

And I don't see Katharine as a mother figure to Tom. Like the Magus said "they all lived as innocently as children" when they got to Avalon. I'm thinking more like Adam and Eve.

The eggs became their children.

Greg Bishansky - [<--- Greg's Blog of Clue-By-Fours]
"Cartman gets ten million dollars and Michael Bay gets to keep making movies. There isn't a God." -Kyle

Katharine and Tom is no more "sick" than Padme Amidala and Anikin Skywalker.

I got the impression from the "Avalon" three-parter that the Magus never actively pursued Katharine, and only too late realized that he'd missed his chance.

So did anyone else think it was weird how Katherine and Tom ended up together? I mean he looked like he was only about 10 years old when they went to Avalon, and she was a grown woman...and his mom left him in her care. She probably had more of a mothering role towards him in the early years. It seems kind of...SICK how they ended up as lovers. I think she belonged with the Magus.

If money were no object, and I were a billionaire many times over. Hell yeah, I'd build my own Eyrie Building in Manhattan. Think of all the construction jobs it would create. I'd be helping the economy. ;)

I wonder if 5 billion would be enough to build the Eyrie in this day and age.

The closest I could find to real-world numbers is the cost of the Freedom Tower being built in NYC is given at 2 billion. Figure the Eyrie would cost about that plus a Scottish castle, plus bribes and facilities to export/import the thing to the States... I think it'd be doable. Although the engineering innovation needed to secure the castle to the tower and keep the whole thing from tipping over would probably push the costs very close to the US$5bn mark.

I think, instead, I'd buy some land in Japan and open up a gargoyle theme park utilizing a local gargoyle clan. What could go wrong?

Arlo> I sort of wonder how a gargoyle clan would live in Mystic Falls from "The Vampire Diaries."

Yes, I'm a grown man and I watch that.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm a 29 year old male and I enjoy Shojo Manga.

Algernon's comment about Norman Osborn: One of the neat things about Dark Reign is that it gives Osborn the chance to expand his horizons beyond tormenting a twenty nine year old who still lives with his mom.

If I had five billion dollars, I'd build the eyrie building and drop a castle on top.
